Oh, I totally get what you're saying! I just can understand his frustration at feeling like he could have gotten exactly what he was after, but was told something contradictory to what happened. It just sucks and I feel for the guy

Plus, I considered the $11 pledge but didn't want to take advantage of Poots. If you give him the benefit of the doubt, you should give it to nonbackers, too.

Someone ran low on funds, didn't want to "make out like a bandit" with the $11 pledge, and had to cancel. I can see where they're coming from, basically, and think it should be obvious.

If you missed it then find a friend that is in, and now that they've determined it viable and reasonble to have a pledge manager, hop on theirs.

If you don't, the only person you have to blame is yourself: either for not having friends, or not being able to make a pledge decision in a 45 day period.

Actually smartass, I never said I didn't know about it (how couldnt you, it was jammed down our throats by Dakka, /tg, and every other game site) only that I missed pledging. All my hobby funds went elsewhere that month. I'm really only annoyed that I can't pledge for the stuff that will be a annoying to get later, like that Gutz mini, but that's fine I guess. I don't have any friends who pledged to it, and most of them stay away from KS like its the plague.

Oh well. win some, lose some. I've got tons of Dreadball to paint anyway.

I hate to say it, but as much as I love the KD Line I backed out my pledge on the last day.

For many of the reasons listed prior, as well as several of my own. I am sure those who get it, when they do will enjoy it. For me, it just became hard to keep myself involved with the project. (Not a fan of businesses or individuals who go back on their word)

What word did he go back on?
The "no adding to your pledge" thing? He said no when he didn't think it was feasible, he has now said yes once he realised that it was.

Yeah, he didn't go back on any word, not really.

He said the logistics of it would be hard for him to handle with the crew he was (at the time) working with (which was him and like, a friend who he was presumably paying in beer and pizza), and thus it would have been a real logistical nightmare.

It was pretty clear he was getting MULTIPLE requests for a more robust pledge manager as the campaign went on, so it would a safe assumption that, as the $$ continued to grow, that he began looking for a solution to help him manage the pledges.

It would appear that he found a solution that would be a logistical and budgetary possibility, and he's going to implement it. For people to get upset about that is, IMO, unreasonable, particularly given how he's not only given a few updates since the KS ended, but also because the dude was (seemingly) so darn committed and sincere to the customer base during the campaign.

I know I'm doing some testing for On the Lamb Games and Backerkit for their pledge manager... Since this is what Poots is using, I could probably write up my experience.

I do agree that it's a GOOD thing that Adam managed to find a solution, but it does suck for those that missed out on the kickstarter because they couldn't change their pledge after the fact.

I don't mind too much. I had to pull my big pledge as I got hit with a tax that the state forgot to send me last year, and I had like a week to pay $430 on my Camaro (they sent me the wrong personal property tax bill last year with it undervalued; then decided to send me the correct one, with interest added, even though it was their fault, a big mess, love dealing with beaurocracy). I emailed the Kingdom Death people and asked if I could drop my pledge to a lower one or even $1 (as it was ending in a few days) and said I could increase it back to my original several-hundred-dollar pledge after the KS ended (next paycheck basically). The response was

"Sadly I can't offer a way to add funds to your pledge since we don't have the resources to track those payments along with your pledge.

However, I think you'll find the core game content will keep you busy with tons of gameplay. Also the game content will be available through the KD store after the fulfillment period for the Kickstarter ends."

Paid the bill Jan 5. This message/email was January 6. The Kickstarter ended Jan 7. Next paycheck was Jan 9. So I had to drop the pledge pretty much completely.

"...and special thanks to Judgedoug!" - Alessio Cavatore "Now you've gone too far Doug! ... Too far... " - Rick Priestley "I've decided that I'd rather not have you as a member of TMP." - Editor, The Miniatures Page "I'd rather put my testicles through a mangle than spend any time gaming with you." - Richard, TooFatLardies "We need a Doug Craig in every store." - Warlord Games "Thank you for being here, Judge Doug!" - Adam Troke

The Dung Beetle was, along with the sunstalker, probably my favorite concept-- really glad to see what it looks like, up close.

Not super-excited about the sword, but still very cool, and the sword might grow on me...

Huh. Before now, I never realized the Beetle had a sword. I thought it was a bit odd that a "knight" was unarmed.

I'm really curious to know how the ball works. With that mouth it looks like it could trap survivors or something else of that sort. Also how it works with the DBknight while in combat; is it targetable or just something to avoid?

If it makes any difference, I think it's a sword in a scabbard, and not the sword itself you see.

Yeah, it took me a minute to get that, which made me like it more, but I still think it doesn't look the best. I think an organic appendage; some fiddler crab-style mismatched size, or some other equivalent to a sword would have been cooler. Still like it a lot, though.

I really hope there are AI cards that have just the ball do something, not only do I think that would be really interesting, it would also give me an excuse to say "The Ball is angry" >.> (I play way too much League of Legends).

I've been envisioning how I want to paint the Beetle Knight. I think (for me) bright colors are necessary, but we'll see which ones. Green might just be too expected for me to go through with it.

Update #65
Kingdom Death wrote:Heya Guys,

Hard at work over here! Looks like I might be going to china real soon to visit some factories! I've also been learning a lot about dice making, what is and what isn't possible etc. I've spoken to Chessex, Koplow and a few places in china. Much greater detail is possible by doing silk screen printing on die but... I dunno. I really feel like they need to be engraved, which drastically changes what can and can't be done.

*Edit - I forgot to add this link to some painted starting survivors over on BOLS!

Spoiler:
Adam Poots wrote:The way the game would be introduced to people, and the way you will interact with it as a player is by experience. Every monster will have three short folk tales that encompass its personality and place in the world. Story is important, but not in a literary, linear sense. The story is about you the player, interacting with this world and experiencing it with your friends as everything unfolds. To me the way I want to show the world to people is through the little folk stories and the events that are in the game, including the major story events and smaller hunt events. You’ll get little descriptions and slices of the world from the perspective of the people in it. I don’t want to just give people a full history and map of this world. I want to have everything separated into small digestible pieces. The more you play, the more familiar you’ll be with the world and the more it’ll all fit together. When you start the game, the player’s knowledge is zero, and the survivor’s knowledge is zero. You get introduced to everything slowly and organically as you play. Because of that perspective, you’ll see things different from the way they might actually be.

Very eager to experience this first hand.
