Well i just went in for the normal pledge, but then i crammed a little bit of everything on top of that... I got the core set, obvs, and then i added on a bunch of stuff i liked such as the giant godzilla/tarrasque thing, the kraken, the dragon diorama/scene, the first set of extras... too many medium/big things not to want it, giants and scorpion and smaller dragon woohoo, and then i got the scifi set twice... yeah twice. I overspent, the kickstarter frenzy got me i guess. I'm not sure exactly what possessed me to get the scifi set... a couple of cargo containers, lockers, well all of the terrain will be useful for sure. The bathalians look sweet and should make a good generic scifi monster/antagonist, as will the k...w... the other smaller four armed aliens with their guns... The IMEF soldiers look kind of cool, they should prove useful at some point, though i'll probably want to pick up a couple of specialists at some point now... the flying saucers might make an appearance in my mars attacks collection, the little grey aliens... well they could be quasi-civilians, like a rescue the science team objective, or they could be the badguys masterminding their own evil coalition of aliens... Use them as deadzone rebs, greys serving as basic troopers with the bigger dudes as grogans or maybe yndij, and the bathalians as freaking teratons.

The nice thing, is i managed to snipe an early bird shipping spot on the last day, so i should get my goodies come september if there are no delays

Whew, sorry guys, been working full tilt on the who-project. It is nearing completion, though i've still got a reasonable amount of work, i'm pretty sure i'll get it done on time.

Then things should pick up normally around here again, i don't think as much secrecy will be needed for the next diorama as it's less obvious, and i'll be doing other things in between.

Speaking of other things, we've finally gotten to see what's in infinity's operation ice storm, and i'm kind of getting torn at this point. On one hand, i can get the following, with a bit of card terrain, learn to play campaign, a few dice and such...

Spoiler:

+

+

+

and if i get that box.. i'll probably spring for these two as there's a bundle with a discount:

Or, i could cherry pick models on my wishlist from miniature market and get these...

Spoiler:

Or something similar, i'm not 100% on the vortex, or if i need both riot grrls AND moiras, they may get intro brawls what with one set being sex-sells overly sexy nuns with guns, and the other set being barely controlled berserk-rage feminists

Or you know, i could save the money since i have so many models already. I guess the main idea is that the bundle will only exist at gencon, and my only chance to pick up the CSU merc, cosplay bolt, and maybe-but-not-necessarily the father knight, reverend healer, and alternate penethisilea.

I mean, i love all of the nomad stuff from the box, and the pan-o stuff is pretty amazing, and almost a full army in it's own right. But even with the equivalent of bulk discount, i can get a very similar number of models for the same money (140 for the gencon bundle, but there will probably be tax?) spent at discount online retailers, and i don't have to spend it all in one shot irrevocably. The main ''can't get it elsewheres' of the box for me are the moira and maybe the CSU, though having a boxed set ready to go and teach people how to play a game i would much like to play.. is not a bad thing at all. On the other hand, i could keep buliding my nomads, especially the bakunin portion. The starter set portion of both factions from icestorm will be available separately eventually, without the father knight or reverend healer, the csu may exist in the future or may just disappear forever.

Pretty much the same number of models for the money, it's just the question of does what ice storm brings to the table outweigh just spending the money on what i've been planning to buy eventually anyway. I may go nuts thinking about this and do some screen capturing and paintbrush shenanigans until i've got all 17-18 models in question available in one image so i can really think at it hard

The third option is to order the starter box from miniature market when it gets them up for preorder, i'd have to wait for it to come in, but i'm not in a lack of models to paint. I wouldn't be able to get penny or the bolt, but they were just extras anyway. Probably save me 20 bucks, but if i go to gencon with even a waver of a chance of buying icestorm i'll do it.. so i gotta figure it out before then!

Anyway sorry for wall of text and spoilers of a bunch of models i didn't paint. I'll have a legit update as soon as i can.

I'm afraid I can't help the deliberations. However, Icestorm is looking very, very tempting, even as a non-Infinitier... A whole new game I'll not get to play, terrain I can use for DZ, and some awesome minis. All I have to decide is that or going in for Dwarf King's Quest.

Yeah that's another consideration, i want to back DS/DKQ and funding that and getting icestorm at the current rate of income is questionable at best.

Not sure which would be more fun, 17 really neat models i'll want to paint, or whatever dkq comes with, though fantasy and somewhat less appealing from a just painting perspective (not to mention a bazillion bones coming). But dkq might be really fun.

Thinking about it more, on the basis that DKQ sweet spot will be running about the same price as Icestorm from discounters, I think I'm going Mantic. If DKQ is anything like their other KS, the value will be amazing by the end of it, so if it's a case of getting one now and waiting for one, I think DKQ will end up being my choice, simply as if I do want Icestorm, it's not going anywhere. I'm also intrigued by the rumours of it being playable solo, which means I'd get more use out of it than Infinity.

Of course, the Gencon exclusives might make Icestorm a better option for you.

Meh the gencon stuff I'll only get because they're moderately cheaper there. Though supposedly ice storm is just s 5000 copy run... we're still trying to verify that. The 6 models a side will become the new vanilla faction starters, eventually, though if the healer, knight, and CSU get released later we don't know.

I hadn't heard about dkq having solo rules, that's actually pretty intriguing.

I like supporting mantic, though it might be fun to actually get one of their products at retail for once lol.

Have to think about it.

I'm pretty sure co-op and solo rules were mentioned for DKQ, and if not, I think it'd still be easier to play a dungeon crawler solo than a game like Infinity.

I have found often with mantic kick starters in end up with. Bunch of stuff I am not interested in and a few things I am. Personally I like every sculpt in ice storm so if I was choosing between the two I would go for ice storm.

Yeah i'm somewhat leaning in that direction... it would also be somewhat nice to be outside of the design process for at least one major mantic product, and just come in later when it hits shelves and see how/if I am impressed enough to want it then. Fantasy minis are easy to come by, and pretty cheap with bones in existence, so i'm not terribly fussed about getting them early/extra/special from DSKQ.

The tricky part is do i get icestorm, which will serve as a nice learn to play system for teaching friends maybe someday if i ever get to play.. but get myself an extra army to feed and dilute the near-purity of my bakunin nomads...

Or do I get the selection of infinity minis i listed up above, get the same number of models, with option to space purchases out over time, and keep to just having the two factions i've already come up with.

Tricky. Icestorm really kicks my shiny model syndrome into overdrive, but you all know how much i want some morlocks and the uberfallkommando.

From purely selfish basis, which would you guys prefer to see me eventually paint?

So in true Grimdork fashion, the indecision rages on!

Here's a quick paintbrush job to illustrate my turmoil:

So, similar number of models... though i'm fully considering to drop the cosplay bolt and penny as superfluous, and if i did that... almost considering to preorder the icestorm from mini market which would alter the values. But who am i kidding, getting to pick it up in person is probably worth the extra 20 bucks if i decide to get O:IS so yeah nevermind. Even if i don't add penny and the bolt to the consideration, the bottom half is only 10 dollars more, so it's still a reasonably fair comparison.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I think a WoW based comparison is appropriate...

Do i keep gearing my ele shaman, and finish leveling my hunter alt... OR, do i respec and start gearing for enhancement, forget the hunter, and start leveling a warrior instead?

For fairness, the second option also includes a couple of vanity pets and maybe a mount, plus a complimentary stack of game invites (ice storm's rules, dice, terrain, and learn to play capacity, all technically ephemeral compared to models, but still nice and extant).

You buy Icestorm and have one giant happy family.

I mean, we're all going to get those models anyway... riiight?

I could do without the Cosplay Bolt. But Penny would make a nice addition to my Haqq as a Kum Biker. And bikes... because bikes are cool.

Penny would be nice to go with my akira aragoto bike gang ... you know... someday... when that happens... her and the new yojimbo.

I had a thought too, my remotes are cross faction and that Moran is corregidor anyway, plus QK, so I'd have 11 corregidor and 11 QK minis after ice storm. Reverend healer goes to Bakunin and the other two are good for 'nilla.

Whole pan o faction though... I dunno.

And I've had a thought about riot grrls... they're getting painted like knight sabers. Gonna happen, someday.

So a point or two for both sides.... grah!

PanO is a lot of fun to paint! And you could always swap em' with someone for say... the Riot Grrls if someone is up for trades.

There'll likely be a lot of that flyin' around once OI drops. Though I have a feelin' most people will be wanting the Nomads.

(I personally want both).

And I definitely have been planning to do that with my Nomad forces, in terms of making them all wildly different colors, rather than following an 'Army Scheme' like with all my other groups so far. The Knight Saber idea is excellent.

stop posting pics of infinity . I'm on the edge of ordering it. I'm not going to gencon so no chance of me getting the limited whatever, but I'm really thinking of jumping into infinity......so STOP before my wife divorces me , cause I like her alot.

Do you like the look of the Pan-O forces? I think CC has convinced me to settle my resolve and come up with a solid working plan...

Gonna go ahead and buy Icestorm at gencon, still not decided about penny and the bolt (sounds kind of like a sitcom...) but probably just because 10 dollars for the bolt isn't terrible and it's a freaking steal for penny. Anyway... then i'll keep the delicious nomad portion, reinforcing my QK, nabbing the excellent rev healz, and a couple of extras for when i want to play vanomads... and then selling off all-everything else to recoup as much as I can, and eventually dumping that back into the infinity budget to nab those things i posted, at a slower rate, but eventually.

So yeah, i'll be looking to sell off my panoceana faction, probably the cosplay bolt, maybe penny (but later, so i can keep dreaming of the aragoto themed JSA list...), and probably the mat/terrain/dice and so on... maybe even the CSU while i'm at it...

If i don't fall in love with them...

But yeah if you like the Pan-O faction, Theo, i'd totally cut you a non-gougy rate.

Otherwise eBay is gonna get hammered, though the prices will probably be lower at first cause i won't be the only one. I bet the father knight and csu will do well on ebay in a year or so.

Well if I decide to get into the game I'll buy the starter myself, as I'll need both factions to get my brother in law to play. Plus I'll need the rules too. Thanks for the offer though.

I've struck it lucky. All I wanted was the CSU model (I have an odd need to collect LE Infinity models) and the Reverend Healer (this model isn't getting released outside of this box, and I'm planning a Nomad army in the future using only Observance units).

My brother is pre ordering Ice Storm. I'm chipping in (a fairly significant amount, but at least I'm not buying the whole thing just for 2 models) to just get the CSU model and Reverend Healer.

Yeah, that makes sense. Had to make the offer, i'm gonna be looking to offload half or better of the box so I can use those funds to buy other nomads stuff later on

@Loki, sounds like a plan then! The CSU is pretty cool but I think i'd rather feed her to the wolves to fund additional bakunin purchases. We'll see if my resolve holds once I've got the model in hand. Have you done some costing on this all-Observance nomads force? They get freaking expensive fast! Especially if you use the profiles they give you in the moira box... I think the hacker alone is 50 points... Kusanagi has the neat perk of giving you an extra SWC to work with but she's also 50 friggen points. Sin eaters are actually on the cheaper side of things in the 30s, but I found myself hard-pressed to make a list with 10 models under 300 points... Maybe if you stick a couple of remotes in there, the lunokhod is useful but barely cheap enough to mitigate the expensive observance units, most of the Salyut zonds are cheap and custodiers can do nasty things with an EVO repeater on the table.

Moiras have moved down my list a bit, since i've made such plans for riot grrls... but I still want to get the box eventually. I think that's what I'll have to do if I wanna try the full-observance thing... get either/or/both the salyut zonds box and the regular zonds box.

Have you looked into the cool things a triad of custodiers can do in a link team?

So, it sounds like the 16th or so should be an interesting time for the hobby blog. I won't have a lot of time but I think i'll have to try to do some really quick unboxings and at least some of my pictures from the convention. Maybe some neat new stuff from the corvus belli, mantic, reaper, and other interesting tables. Unless i change my mind again, I'll have ice storm and the basic mars attacks game to unbox (as long as mantic gets back to be and confirms they're bringing it) and I will hopefully be able to snag some pictures from the mantic table where they should have a lot of the new deadzone/mars attacks/dungeon sagas stuff.

I'm kind of hoping that mantic will have brought along project pandora at the ridiculous rate they were selling it at during their last open day, but probably not. I'll have to bring my mantic points along in case they have any of their mantic points goodies for which I might exchange them.

More on this later, I've still got a fairly imposing diorama to finish!

Yeah, I put together a test list using a Moira link, a Custodier Lt, a Sin Eater Mk12 and 3 Moderators. Hoping that the Healer is in the 35pt range which will make it a 300pt list. The Moderators are a necessary inclusion since, as you said, Observance units are pricey. I needed some cheerleaders. Plus it lets me build the list with the Bakunin starter, Healer, Custodier blister and Moira box.

Oh, well if we can add moderators then it's totally doable. And i love moderators

Perhaps if the healer is more expensive, such a list might have some count-as combi rifles on more members of the moira team to skim points. I also like the MK12 sin eater, though i've got the sniper too cause he's too neat not to have.

One of the reasons I want to use the Bakunin starter is for the extra rifle Moira, so I don't have to proxy the hacker as a rifle.

The advantage of getting it an GenCon is you have it early, you are guaranteed the CSU mini, and you can open that box up and possibly have some of the CB guys write some stuff on the inside cover of the book, or even do a sketch for you. They do that y'know. The disadvantage is that it will be $20 more than at miniature market.

I have a friend getting me a copy. If they sell out before he can get it, then I'll order from miniature market.

That's my plan too, Red. I'm hoping to get it in person, but if not, oh well i'll try to preorder before it's too late. The extra 20 bucks isn't so bad, especially getting to meet the folks in person. I hadn't considered signing of things, that could be neat.

Oh TDL, there's my devils advocate when I need one. I think the new plan to sell off the pan-o will allow me to ''get all the things'' though so hopefully it works out that way.

Now, just gotta wait out the two weeks before d-day. I was hoping to pawn off some models before the convention just in case i saw other cool things to buy... but I'll just have to do it later.

Well, the thing is, I kinda have valid reasons. I mean, one, yes, I'm a pervert and I like Cat-Girls a lot so it would be easy for me

But now, the seriously: How many armored humans have you painted so far? How many systems? Fraking many, right? Fantasy, Sci-fi, modern times, it doesn't matter, you have painted who knows how many armored humans or armored human zombies.

Now tell me: How many cat-girl miniatures have you ever painted? I'm willing to bet the answer is none or almost none.

Don't get me wrong, to me all Infinity factions are beautiful, PanO has those awesome knights and armors, but Nomads are so awesome because of the wackiness: Either they have fully armored dudes (one with a cat head!), mechs, sexy nuns with big guns, furries or koala / panda robots. It's a faction way too original not to love

There's the catgirl Daktari that is infamous and polarizing. So I bought one.

The sexy lady in the Uberfallkommando box is definitely foxy. On the box she's actually labelled 'Winter Vixen'.
