So i did this in a game before and it's rather ridiculous. Basically i charged into combat and during my magic phase i roll 6 dice and try for a miscast. I get the spell off irresistibly (which didn't do much) and blew up both our units to do so.

In the case of this tactic i have though about using level 1 wizard with a spell you can cast while in combat (necromancers might do ok here as they're cheap and warlocks might work). This is rather cheesy and dumb but i figure if you have nothing else to do you can charge a cheap wizard into combat and blow him up via miscast. It's more hilarious hijinks than super serious but it can have fairly devastating results in some cases (being that an explosion would make a strength 10 blast). It's probably not extremely reliable either but it is funny and in the case of skaven kind of in character.

Never tried it but it is a pretty funny tactic just suicide the wizard lol
Not sure if it would make up its points though only because you loose essentially most of your magic phase because your throwing 6 dice for one dude but then you only have X amount left.
Then you actually have to roll the bad miscast (or the good in this case lol)

I could see this being done on accident say your unit with a lvl1 wizard gets into combat with a big beefy unit and theres no way to win you just try to blow yourself up to destroy more of the unit. Thats what I would do anyways.

It's really only "viable" in certain armies that have really cheap lvl1's and can thus really bring them en masse. Skaven can do it better than anyone because not only are WE's cheap, but you can fling them like a wizardpult thanks to Grey Seers being able to take Skitterleap automatically.

Woot, someone else who still uses them!

Clan Nezumi are proud puppets vassals allies of our fellow Eastern cousins.

Also, I used to run pretty much nothing but Gutters and Assassins with Snikch and a Vermin Lord in 5th. I've always been an Eshin man at heart.

Yep, with Skaven it's just plain funny.

With BotWD HE's on the other hand... more like yet another reason to want to set their models on fire.

How do you represent them? Use the old rules, or..?

In the game i did it in i charge an opponent downhill (somehow got that bonus that almost nobody remembers) and fought his temple guard with like plague monks, stormvermin or clanrats. Magic phase comes and i say i hope i miscast and then proceed to. I blew up a ton of his temple guard and we both laughed and he considered it an interesting game. I actually did too. It was a fun time i had losing.

Imagine how funny it is though if some heavy cavalry are coming in and you charge and proceed to blow up taking them all out. Omg the look on your opponent's face would be priceless. I'd need to snap a photo i think.

Mine are simply used as Warlock Engineers sans any Skryre gear. They tend to be naked or using Poison w/ one being a Scroll caddy.

I don't think it's a viable tactic.

First you need to get a spell on your wizard that could be cast in combat. That hedges out a lot of options, right there. Goblin Shamans are probably the best, though. The 2nd cheapest Wizards, with a guaranteed Augment. I'd say Night Goblins, but that Mushroom Die is more of a liability here.
After that, I'd go with big, tough Wizards that can take the hit and regain their wounds. Ogres, Treemen, and Daemons.

Second, though, you need to actually roll box cars. On 6 dice that's a...what, 20-sometihng-percent chance? Not great.

Third, you have to roll one of the lower results for Miscating.

And before all that, you need to successfully charge into a combat that involves expensive enemy models and cheap friendly ones.
It's expensive and unreliable.

I do remember losing something like 5 Grail Knights to a Keeper of Secret's miscast. So. Stupid.

Reminds me of the old Gem of Gnarr tactic...I loved locking Bloodthirsters away for all eternity in combat with a squire.

It's really just something awesome when it happens. To even build a minor plan around it is a waste.
That same wizard possibly casting and channeling every turn I is worth more.

The odds of blowing yourself up aren't good enough to warrant a suicidal character. However if you're going to try, you could always get a grounding rod and reroll the miscast result if it's too high. Nobody said you have to use it to reroll the bad results ;D
