Subject: Necron Lychguard question

|
On a Canoptek Spyder's Waiting List
|
I'm going to be facing some daemons from the daemonkin codex and was wondering if I should run scythes or sword n board? He's running letters, crushers, and a lord with the AP 2 axe that turns him into a thirster on death.
I was thinking scythes for the increased str and lower AP, but the invul from the shields would come in handy for the AP2/3 he's going to be throwing at me.
Which do you guys think I should run, or should I even run them? They haven't been built yet, so I could run something else. I'm running the decurion detachment and can run almost anything.

Daemons benefits from invulnerable save all the time so do not brother with AP weapons.
Keep in mind that his guys will be TH3 with AP3 so definitely go for shield.
Lastly, most of his 1+ wound character are minimum TH6 so if you are looking at instead death forget it.
If your tactics is to occupy his units forever then take the Lychguard, if not then should invest in something else (did I hear Tesla?).

I'm trying to find out which weapons to take with the Lychguard. I tried the immortals with Tesla. But they got bogged down from round 2 till round 5. I want something that will actually do something in hand to hand not just sit there going tit for tat. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, what is TH?

If you are facing deamons, then take flayed ones or wraiths because the number of attacks is better against their invulns where the AP on the Lychguard is wasted. Lychguard are better at taking out MEQ and other necrons but wraiths or flayed ones work better if they rely on invulns or are TEQ.
@ TH He meant toughness.

Thanks. I have a unit of wraiths in the list, but I want something to run with my overlord. I don't think the low AP is a complete waste. He'll be rolling a 5++ save rather than a 2+/3+ save.
I thought he meant toughness, but saying he was TH3 at one point and then TH6 at another I was completely lost.

Oh yeah, taking a squad of sword and broad to accompany your overlord would be great. They never die and can deal out punishment to almost anything. Since they are deamons, and they will be coming towards you, I really see no point of taking a veil or a transport. The voidreaper on the overlord is an excellent monstrous creature killer and is worth the 10 points over a regular warscythe any time you aren't using one of the other relics.
When he was talking abut the toughness three is was about the bloodletters and the toughness six was about the bloodthirster.

Thank you ZanyZombie. That really helps. Automatically Appended Next Post: I know this is going away from the original topic, but would the edge of eternity from the mephrit dynasty cohort be any better than the void reaper?

You could go with the full deathstar - Orikan/Zahndrek/Obyron plus sword and board lychguard. Not all that killy, but really, really hard to kill, and you have access to AP2, and a deepstrike move.

2 problems with that is the point sink running the 3 of them plus the Lychguard and deepstriking never really works for me. I either scatter far or scatter into terrain/ enemy models and mishap.

Are you going decurion or CAD? If going CAD, a bunker with escape hatch really helps lychguard. Depends on the Daemon list though - many will come to you anyway.

Like he said...always decurian. I love taking lychguard sword and board with a lord with a warscythe. It fits so fluffy into a necron list.

I ended up taking 5 sword and board lychguard with my overlord (mephrit dynasty rules, edge of eternity, solar thermasite, and phase shiftier) they did very good once I got them into combat. I will definitely be running 5 lychguard minimum from now on.
