The profile for these guys just got put up in Army5 and I don't see any reason why you wouldn't run at least 3 of them.

11 points for a bike with chain rifle, 2 heavy pistols, AP CCW, and with smoke grenades and a smoke launcher seems a little OTT. And they are AVA 6.

Seem comparable to Kum bikers to me, someone with more experience would have to explain how the Desperados are better.
They give up speed, 1 point of WIP, 2 points of CC, are 1 point more expensive, one level of kinematika, and are ava 6 instead of total. In exchange they get Heavy Pistols, and sixth sense lvl 2.

Yeah, they're comparable for Kum. The basic Chain Rifle troop is 1 point more, and the differences seem about right.

It gains 2 heavy pistols rather than 1 normal pistol.
It gains Sixth Sense L2.
It loses a level of Kinematica.
It trades Dogged for Courage.
It loses 2 CC (doesn't seem like much, but CC is an expensive stat, probably costs more than CB think it's worth)
It loses 1 PH (this hurts a bit when you want to be throwing smoke at your feet) and 1 WIP (doesn't exactly do much, but it's there).
It's bike is 2" slower on the second movement stat.

I'd say there's enough tradeoffs and stat drops to justify being only 1pt above a Kum. Remember, they're Impetuous and Irregular, a combination that's very cheap for many reasons, and is double dangerous on a biker because of their first movement speed.

Personally, I'm not sure I like them more than Kum. Desperados skillset makes them slightly slower and more of a self aware midline unit (Courage and Sixth Sense) which is at odds with Extremely Impetuous and Irregular. Kum are faster, balls out in your face aggressive units that keep riding after being shot in the face (Dogged). It's like they wanted Kum there, but wanted to make them different, and gave them some different skills and some stat tweaks, but overall the result doesn't work as well.

AVA 6 might as well be AVA Total for all intents and purposes.

Hmmm, what is the collective noun for Kum bikers?

And on topic my initial reaction is that the Desperados seem reasonably costed in comparison to the Kum.

Beautiful table btw Loki!!

Table is not mine, nor is the army. The table is from CNC Workshop, an Australian company. Their New Paranoia range. They're avid Infinity gamers, and the table is a prototype of the final product. They take it around to cons and, IIRC, one of the companies local clubs has it. All together I think it's about $1000au.

But on topic, again, yes they seem fairly on par with Kum. Different skills and intended use, but comparable. Their cost is fine.

I'm surprised people have an issue with these guys. Compared to a similarly equipped Maverick (boarding shotgun), for 3 more points on the Maverick you get MSV1, 1 BS, 2 points of armor, and most importantly regular instead of extremely impetuous, in exchange for 4 points of CC (meh), the pistols, SSL2, and Courage.

If anything, I'd have a hard time justifying these guys over Mavericks at all. With the exception of the Chain Rifle / 2x Assault Pistol loadout, because everybody loves throwing 5 dice on active and a big old template on reactive.

Tier 1 is the new Tactical.

Yeah I'd agree there. The Mavericks were a bit of an eyebrow raiser for sure. ARM 3 Regular on a bike alone seems worth more than what they cost.

I don't plan to use them, but I tried him last game. His impeteous order brougjt him in los of 3 snipers. Needles to say how that ended. And it instantly reminded my why kum is better thanks to dogged.

That's just bad deployment and also why you should have a regular order pool handy. You shouldn't be hoping for Dogged to save a Kum. Also throwing smoke at your feet helps.
