Nirvana - The Man Who Sold The world
Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower (Better than the original imo)
On You there's also Sum41 covering Metallica
And Metallica covering Iron Man
Currently debating whether to study for my exams or paint some Deathwing
Metellica cover
- Astronomy, by Blue Oyster Cults.
- So what?, by The Anti Nowhere League.
- Overkill, by Motorhead.
Im also fairly certain they cover some other songs too but for the life of me i cant think of what the are off the top of my head.
Arch Enemy cover Book of Heavy Metal, by Dream Evil.
Austrian Death Machine cover
- Hell Bent for Leather, by Judas Priest
- Trapped under Ice, by Metallica
- Iron Fist, by Motorhead
- I turned into a Martian, by The Misfits
Opeth cover Would? by Alice in Chains.
Presidents of the USA, Rage Against the Machine and Blue Oyster Cult all seperately cover Kick out the jams by MC5
Bad Religion and Motorhead both cover Louie, Louie.
Rammstein cover Pet Sematary by the Ramones.
and the Ramones (rather amusingly i think) cover the Motorhead song R.A.M.O.N.E.S which was a tribute to the Ramones by Motorhead.
Theres a band called Ten Masked Men which takes pop songs and does metal covers of them. Some of thier covers are quite good. Their covers of Sex Bomb and and You Spin my right round are excellent.

Is that the same band that has a song that sound like nails on a chalk board and the sounds of crying baby seals being clubbed?
I remember someone posting a song in another forum by a band with a similar name and it literally hurt.

Thanks for posting that, I have been looking for that guy again since I heard in Dawn of the Dead when it first came out.
Does he do other songs?

One of the best covers I've ever heard, and the best match of a song to a band ever.
That is good, considering I don't have very many Korn songs on my ipod, I am very impressed.

And so, due to rising costs of maintaining the Golden Throne, the Emperor's finest accountants spoke to the Demigurg. A deal was forged in blood and extensive paperwork for a sub-prime mortgage with a 5/1 ARM on the Imperial Palace. And lo, in the following years the housing market did tumble and the rate skyrocketed leaving the Emperor's coffers bare. A dark time has begun for the Imperium, the tithes can not keep up with the balloon payments and the Imperial Palace and its contents, including the Golden Throne, have fallen into foreclosure. With an impending auction on the horizon mankind holds its breath as it waits to see who will gain possession of the corpse-god and thus, the fate of humanity......

Well, I had a couple other songs I would've posted before this one, but the bands that cover them are quite a bit like the bands that did them originally.
This one, however, is sufficiently different.
Here's the original, which I hadn't heard until well after I heard the cover. "Lucifer Over London" by Current 93:
and here's the cover I heard first, spoiler-ed as some might find the name of the band and the album cover offensive (nothing obscene, just extremely blasphemous. I can't think of any deeply religious members of Dakka off the top of my head, but better safe than sorry):
Spoiler:
I actually much prefer the cover partially because it's the first version I heard, but also the original seems a bit too melodramatic and/or pretentious to me.

I'm probably gonna get alot of hate for this but Five Finger Death Punches cover of "Bad Company" is quite good; nowhere near as good as the original but a good attempt.
And basically the whole of Garage Inc. specifically:
Astronomy,
The Wait
The Small Hours
It's Electric
Whiskey in the jar

You do not feth with Klaus Nomi. He will infest your dreams with horrors from beyond space and time. A close runner up would be the KMFDM cover of Material Girl, but I'll leave finding that an exercise to the reader.
With that out of the way, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes do some really good covers. Really, they do nothing but covers.
Jump to about 1:30 unless you want to hear their faux live shenanigans

Every Dakkanaught gets a 4+ Pinch of Salt save.
When you suffer a Falling Sky hit, roll a D6 - on a 4+ the hit is ignored as per the Pinch of Salt save. On a 1-3 panic insues - you automatically fail common sense tests for the next 2 weeks and get +7 to your negativity stat. -Praxiss

Horrible video, but great cover:
There's better copies around the web.
Okay, I know, I have a problem.

Star One did some decent covers in their two albums:
A medley of songs from the band Hawkwind.
"Knife Edge" by Emerson, Lake and Palmer.
Honestly, I couldn't get into either one of the original bands for those two. I prefer fast-paced songs, and the originals are just way too slow-paced for me.
