Somewhere in the steamy jungles of the south...

Hey all,

Newbie looking for advice here: would it be possible to run a competitive/semi-competitive Menoth list containing lots of infantry? I'm very taken with the design work on this faction's soldiers, and am tempted to start an army, but I want to make sure that an infantry-heavy list would be viable. I'm looking to build a 15-point and 25/30 point list, and I really love the aesthetics of the Exemplar units.

Thanks in advance!

~Tim?

Say hello to the eKreoss exemplar extravaganza

Basically, Grand Exemplar Kreoss has a theme force that allows for a really powerful infantry build, which only needs one jack (Flames of Salvation), and is otherwise mostly exemplars. It focusses mainly on a fast horde of Knights exemplar, backed up by any other exemplar units you feel like taking, then using eKreoss' feat (that grants everyone an extra attack) to cause horrendous casualties. Of course, it has some really bad matchups, but it can also be a lot of fun. It generally needs a higher level of points to run well, so probably 35pts is a good notch for him.

There's also Vindictus - he makes infantry much faster and gives pathfinder, so he can make good use of the generally slower exemplar models, and can work very well with Paladins (Spd 8 paladins are pretty awesome). He'll generally take a jack or two, but infantry heavy is his focus.

Another option for an exemplar horde is the new Testament of Menoth theme force. Now, Testament is... a little difficult to use, he's one of our more finikity casters. However, his theme force allows a points discount on Knights Exemplar, and you can't argue with 4pt weapon master units, especially when their cheap souls power Testament up further. The theme force does require a Vessel of Judgement, however, and that's generally a model for buying later on.

Now, for my recommendation, if you're just starting out, just run a mixed list for the most part, and build up to infantry heavy lists. as you go on. pSeverius as a first/second caster is great for that, as he can basically run either way (infantry or jack heavy) and make it work.

Warmachine factions pretty much all work well with lots of infantry. Though Menoth is usually able to run more jacks than most, you can definitely run plenty of infantry.

And Exemplar Errants are considered to be one of the best units in the game.

So yeah, what you are looking for should work well.

Well, they're one of the best units in the game if they have their U/A and with the right support. As you can only get one U/A in a list, they're not great for making a horde - that's where the specialized lists come in, to buff up the Knights Exemplar and make it worth bringing a heap of them.

Yeah, you can do plenty of infantry heavy lists. Only some of those are really exemplar-centric. It's certainly not going to be what the entire faction revolves around as 'Jacks generally do the heavy lifting. However it's viable enough that you can put them together with pieces mostly useful in broader lists.

If you want the spammiest of the spammiest exemplars try eKreoss theme list. It's one-dimensional as all hell, and your opponent is going to know exactly what you're doing the moment you drop the caster. That said the feat turn can be back-breaking, and even with how predictable the list is some match-ups can't do much to stop it.

Keep in mind you're going to wind up with a lot of Knights Exemplar units, when most lists only take 1. It might be worthwhile to get a mix of infantry and try Harbinger & Vindictus. They can both run lots of dudes and exemplars too, but are going to have more overall balanced loud out so the pieces will be easier to expand on.

Ones that have not been mentioned..

Harbinger can run infantry, Crusaders call, martyr to keep solo's alive longer with a couple jacks bringing up the rear.

PServerous
+1 to hit and damage for all friendly models in your control area of 16...

Defenders Ward for +2 ARM and Def on a unit.

Then he will have his spare focus to be a spellslinger to nuke your opponet through arcnodes.

Very rarely do you spam the same unit over and over to get a horde in any faction. You generally want a mix of units. And as good as errants are, I'm not sure I'd want a list of just them. There are still things that they just simply just do poorly against. But there are other exemplar units and non-exemplar Menoth units that are worth taking. You also have some excellent solos to go along with them.

Maybe they'll eventually get a Seneschal to make them shine.

Infantry Spam Menoth? Have my favorite Kreoss2 list:

Kreoss2
- Fire Of Salvation
Max Exemplar Errants w/ UA
Max Exemplar Errants
5x Knights Exemplar
2x Knight Exemplar Seneschal
Vassal Mechanik

30 KEs, 22 Errants, and 2 Sennys. The look on my opponent's face when I plop down 56 small based models(54 with Weapon Master) is always worth it.

Plus Advance Move for 30 KE's is insane.

Alternately, you can swap one of the Sennys and a unit of KE for a 3rd Max Exemplar unit to get 3 more bodies down.

So, I was doing the maths on that in my head and it just wasn't working out...until I realized that it's not 2 units of KE, it's 5. Yikes.

They get even nastier with the Testament's new Theme force. They're a point cheaper. Sure you can only have 3 units, but 12 points for 18 dudes is nasty. Especially when you just bring the dead guys back

Meh. I'd rather pay those extra point and be immune to Continuous Effects.

Both lists are great.

Really the biggest draw is its a second list you might actually use more than 2 units of KE in. And its really good at attrition.
