Trying to make this work, any love for the idea?

Crowe
5 squads of five purifiers in rhinos
3 psyflemen

Most squads with two psycannons and a couple hammers and halberds. Hammer hand and cleansing flame novas are ridiculous. That would give me 10 warp charges from the rhinos and squads, 1 from Crowe and three from the dreads. I think objective secured is worth the 150 for crowe... need thoughts on how to use him?

Alternatively, could take 4 squads of purifiers and take razorbacks for the four twin linked psycannons. Being able to shoot means I can't flat out though and I definitely want to deliver the purifiers. But scoring and shooting razorbacks sound great. Thoughts?

Better ways to deliver purifiers?

Well, its a pretty straightforward list.
In terms of Crowe, you could give him a Rhino if necessary and send him against an enemy character.

I think purifiers as a unit are great value, so I like the idea.

I've always had problems with Crowe, hence don't use him. However, I did see a suggestion (maybe in the GK tactics thread?) that he be put behind an ADL with an Icarus Lascannon.

I wouldn't take razorbacks, because then you can't shoot the psycannons until you disembark.

What did you mean about twin linked psycannons on razorbacks? You mean take assault cannons and psybolt on them? That would be a lot of points, personally I'd rather have more purifiers in rhinos.

Yea, psyflebacks was the idea. I did consider crowe on a quad gun. He'd be tough 7 with it, he can hold a backfield objective and try to deal with any sneakers who come try to take it.One big plus for crowe is he is guaranteed cleansing flame. You send in anything to threaten the objective and he can start blasting novas in addition to the quad gun.

But I read a rule that interests me... you can combat squad but still take the same transport. This way I can still buy psybolt and still have two big squads of purifiers. I'll combat squad them and throw them in land Raiders. Way tougher to kill, hard to move off an objective, lots more fire power, can assault out of it.

I'm thinking of going unbound and running 20 purifiers combat squadded in two Raiders and then backing up with three psyflemen. I feel confident that the Raiders will deliver the purifiers where I want. Being able to charge out, nova. Shoot ten storm bolters at s5 and then charge sounds devastating. I'll just turtle inside the raider until I'm in position.

Three dreds puts out one hell of a lot of supporting fire too.

In a perfect world I'd take a quad gun and crowe but the competition for heavy slots is too hard.

At 1850 I'd probably add a knight for fun and added resilience but I like the idea of a brutally efficient strike force. I picture the two tanks and three dreds being dropped from a thunder hawk and just getting to it. I need to test the list and figure it out but we'll see!

I've been running Crowe in an 1850 list for NOVA practice rounds and so far it's been successful.

I've been putting Crowe in a LRC while the purifiers run around in Rhinos using the LRC as cover for a flank. Several times I've been tempted to have Crowe rush out and meet the enemy HQ head on but it's almost always unnecessary and too risky. So far Crowe has done nothing more than denying my opponent's Slay the Warlord while the LRC has pulled it's weight via firepower and holding objectives. The LRC is never high on their target priority because it isn't worth popping open to get a chance at Slay the Warlord so instead it just sits happily on a central objective firing at whatever it can while the purifiers zoom across the board in Rhinos moving 12" while casting their nova power and snap shooting 8 psycannon shots. It's worked so far.

Though my list also has a Knight Errant so that might be messing up their target priority a little.

very interesting... as i was driving into work i considered bringing the two landraiders with purifiers and then a knight instead of any dreads.

pretty funny to deploy with three models on the table.
but cracking those two raiders and killing the knight wont be easy. especially now that smash has been nerfed, its really only meltas and haywire thatll really sting.

and when the raiders go down, 20 purifiers in 4 combat squads that are all fearless should be able to do some fighting. i just wonder if having objective secured is worth it.

150 points for crowe... objective secured purifiers... a rerollable warlord trait that could help a fair bit... its not CRAZY. he could score if he needed to, he could fight something decently with his super rending attacks. another warpcharge, another nova to get in position...

how are you finding the rhinos in this edition? I havent played much of 7. id have to buy a few things either way but i dont like the look of rhinos. id much rather have 2 raiders, its just so pricey.

and the trouble is that if i scale down on some purifiers to fit in crowe with 2 raiders and a knight... then where does he go?

is the knight dumb? is objective secured gonna be worth it that much? i think id want to run regular land raiders just so i have those lascannons for monstrous creatures. ive got more than enough infantry killing with the novas and storm bolters and melee. two raiders with four lascannons and two multimeltas will do a lot to help kill big stuff. not to mention the knight with the thermal cannon and the d attacks/stomp.

Well, if you're playing a tournament that allows unbound then you might as well skip on Crowe. So far I've only seen Objective Secure shine in mealstrom missions.

The Rhinos in 7th have been surprisingly resilient. The smoke launchers have saved them more than once when used before 2nd turn reserve rolls. Last game I played against a white scars list that outflanked with 6 units of bikes that each had 2 gravguns and 1 combi. Before they arrived I sat my rhinos on objectives and popped smoke, making sure they were close enough to cover for each other. With some lucky rolls, they all survived, but barely. Two of the Rhinos only had 1 HP left and were immobilized. (He attacked the Rhinos with flyers, thinking he could gravgun the purifiers if they wrecked, instead he had to shoot the rhinos with the grav-guns but he also took out a NDK with them. I run 2 NDK instead of 3 psyflman) But since they were objective secured, they held onto those objectives and allowed the purifiers to get a full round of shooting. The purifiers survived all this thanks to a counter charge by my other NDK. Meanwhile my Knight Errant destroyed all outflankers on the other side of the board and took out his heavy support. The purifiers died quickly to grav-gun fire once they were forced on foot. One of my immobilized rhinos repaired itself and stole an objective at the end of the game.

So all in all, I like Rhinos in 7th. The new damage table makes them hard to take out in 1 shot, forcing your opponent to dump a decent amount of firepower into them to take out their HPs. I only run 3 Rhinos with 3 units of 5 purifiers. At least 1 Rhino has survived every game and scored VPs.

I guess that's my one real question (I'm pretty sold on the ravens and purifiers because I like them a lot)

Would you rather take 1 Knight Errant, or Three Psyflemen Dreads? The dreads give 3 more hull points, three targets, three more mastery levels, a lot more shooting, the potential to strip a lot more hullpoints of vehicles, a fair bit more resilient early on since they can be effective 48" away... i dunno, thoughts?

any ideas?

1. Imperial Knight
2. Three Psyflemen
3. Two Psyflemen and Crowe

The third option is the cheapest for me to buy financially...
the Imperial klnight would be second cheapest.. can buy one off a friend half off. Not sure if the three dreds is the best option though. suggestions?
