Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone can recommend me a suitable foam tray to fit my tank-heavy army. I will be going overseas in the coming months and have 2 available options.

I have at the moment
- 2x Small GW hard cases
- 1x Large GW hard case
- 1x Flames of war battlefoam bag
- Potentially 1x apocalypse GW case (I can get this cheap from a friend, but I am not sure if it's allowed on a plane given how it looks)

Ideally, I would like to fit my entire army into one small GW hard case to bring overseas but given the models I need to fit... not going to happen. So, I need some help with fitting these models either in any of the above cases (1 case to bring) or order a bag specifically for air hauling (carry on). Here are the models I have to bring.

2x Executioner + sponsons
2x Exterminator + sponsons
2x Vanquishers
2x Punishers + sponsons
2x Hydra/wyvern magnetised combo
3x Chimera
30x Steel legion troops
6x plasma gun (small base)
3x Lascannon teams (large base)

Also, if anyone can help me chuck everything into 1 bag, that would help me a lot. I know it's near impossible but is anyone up for the challenge? It may help a little that I do not have the 2 punishers and LC teams at the moment painted so I can transport those separately.

Thanks for reading!

Sounds like you need a battle oak custom tray, their size are mde for airplane carryon, and you can custom design your foam to fit the most content in as little space as possible.

Hmm, the case looks nice but
a. I don't live in the US
b. The case would cost about my army XD

Thanks for the quick replies. If I may, could we keep the prices to a minimum if I were recommended to get a new case? I would actually much prefer to use any of the old cases if able but I wouldn't mind buying some trays for them.

In that sense, does anyone know how many inches the Large GW hard case would be able to take and whether they can actually fit any normal battlefoam trays? The same goes for the Apoc bag.

Thanks again guys.

Do you really need to bring all that? Can you bring a smaller army?

TBH, no. However, I am bringing the specified miniatures above because of the options I can swap out between them and because I won't be going back for a good few months (university).

Does anyone know the effective height of the GW hard cases or more importantly how many trays I can fit into a hard case? I might order custom trays from battlefoam to fit but I am not sure about the height dimensions.

Cheers.

I'll pitch in with an obligatory mention of KR Multicase.
You could have 1 case, or lots of cases, and 1 bag to carry all that you need to take for your game.
I'll update with a list of how many cases you'll need to carry all that lot.

They have a case builder/selector on their site where you list your models and it calculates the best inserts for you.

There is, but stuff like tanks needs a bit more care. It'll pad the cases out a lot, and puts people off.
It didn't work well for me, anyway.

[Update] But, for once, it came out with the same results as I used.
I used this list:
Troops
3 x Chimera
3 x Heavy Weapon Team
36 x Troop
Heavy Support
2 x Executioner
4 x Leman Russ Battle Tank
2 x Vanquisher
It'll have a spare tank slot and some troop slots to put bits into.

This takes up 4 boxes. These could be the cardboard boxes willed with custom foam, and you'd want a Kaiser case to carry them in. I have cardboard, and carry them in a Kaiser backpack and a Kaiser 2 case.
Or get the foam and an aluminium case to hold it.
Then it's just postage costs.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll definitely check KR out. Yes I did try the case builder but it always hanged when I used it and I wasn't sure why.

Battlefoam case with pluck foam trays. Best value for the money. Looking at your list you probably need the 1520xl. I got mine for ~$300. money well spent.

Try a different browser. It had problems when first released. It might have some niggles.

There's a very good looking foam case kickstarter going atm by Mantis. Very cost effective, nice and compact.
