We all have those moments, those times when the seemingly impossible happens. Somehow the stars align and the dice gods look upon you with favour and some seemingly insignificant grunt becomes the hero of the moment.

I have a few accounts of this:

A few weeks back in a 40K game one of my regular IG Infantry squads - made up to look like a bunch of Jackals from Halo and led by a Grunt - where picked on for my friends Vanguard Veterans for extermination. He decided to challenge my sergeant (the grunt) with his sergeant. His had a relic two handed weapon and so struck last, so my paltry one wound S 3 two attack paper armoured grunt stood in the face of this incoming golden titan of death, raised his pistol and blew the head clean off his mighty killing machine. The squad was then wiped out by the rest but the image of this little Unggoy standing defiant with his mighty penlight pistol raised, taking down this mighty titan has stayed with us ever since.
In the same game my Lascannon heavy weapon squad tackled a Landraider at extreme range. of the three guns, all but one missed. Thinking nothing was going to happen I rolled the penetration dice in a half joking way "wow, okay, that was lucky, lets see what happened" Roll to damage: "well thats a plus 1 from being AP2.... Damn" roll for blast radius: and just like that an undamaged Landraider vanished in a fire ball. Most of the transported squad where killed too.

Earlier today I also had an amazing incident, during a game of Darkage. It was my Forsaken against the enemy Brood. Long story short it was late in the game and things where not going well. I had lost my saint - Saint Mary - as well as my Warwind (powerful commander and my Sister of Charity (a sort of healer that can revive troops, but causes them to gain penalties). It had been a tough, but I had managed to take down the Howler (massive anti infantry behemoth that can soak up damage) both the Ratchets (Basic infantry that can regenerate) and both the Broodhounds (fast flankers)
It came down to my last two surviving Banes (Really tough basic Forsaken infantry) one of which was high on drugs (legacy of the now smooshed Sister of Charity) and my three Coils (basic ranged Infantry - meh stats) against his Gazelle (fast scouty type, also his commander) and Numbskull (walking tank, this thing has the third highest armour of any unit, six hits when most units only have three at the most and the ability to regenerate at a scary rate). In the ensuing round both my Banes failed to do anything to the Numbskull which in turn smooshed them, leaving only my Coils.
Now, Coils are not that good of a unit. They have the upside of being able to shoot in a mostly melee game but they make up for this with terrible stats. Their AP and Move are average, their defence is on the low end of average and their only high note is their 1 point above average armour. Their shooting attack is one point below average ability, and their melee attack is vastly below that. But they where all I had left.
Brood turn, and the Numbskull finishes off my Banes and heads over to my Coils, stopping just a few inches short. I see my chance and three Death disk shots fly out. Amazingly they all hit this living tank and all three wound. At this point we are both agape. This NEVER happens. Buoyed on my confidence I use the remaining two AP on each coil to charge, managing to take it down to 1 HP left. The Gazelle has already activated this turn so we roll for initiative and regeneration. The Numbskull only regenerates 1 HP and by some miracle I win Initiative.
In a feat of epicness I doubt I will ever repeat my Coils club this Numbskull to -1 HP and then shoot the Gazelle down to 1 HP (she had 2 base). The Gazelle charges and amazingly wiffs her attacks. The turn ends.

My opponent is now looking at me nervously. In his hands he holds two dice, his allowance for the Numbskull regenerating. If he makes both these rolls that monster comes back. He rolls, a success and a..... failure. The mighty monster that sundered half my army was laid low by my crappiest troops. My Coils finish of the Gazelle and the game is over.

I have more to post but Ill do them later.

I once had a squad of big mutants (from the Eye of Terror codex) charge, foolishly, a squad of Grey Knights Terminators (from the Daemonhunters codex) because I was getting a bit desperate to inflict *any* kind of damage. I'd realized I forgot to include more than a few squads of traitors, I basically had no firepower, I had to assault at all cost.

Anyhoo, I get him to roll 8 armour saves... he failed 6 of them.

It's been downhill ever since.

I once won Melee combat against Space Marines with Tau.

But only once. Ever since then it's all been downhill Melee wise.

As a kind of opposite I have an Imperial Guardsman with a plasma gun. He has been dubbed 'Lucky'. Why? Because with but one exception he has blown himself up on the first shot of every game to date that he has been in.

I was playing back in fourth edition. With a Tau Railhead. My buddy was playing eldar falcon or Fire Prism. Throughout the whole setup he was telling me how awesome it was and how many of my units it was going to kill.

Of course. first turn, My Railgun lights up his tank. Rolled Sixes straight through and blew it out of the game first turn. Felt awesome until his wraithlords rocked the rest of my army.

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

A few of my favourite memories:

40k: In the old days there was a rule where a Battlewagon could carry as many Boyz as could physically fit on the model. But, if the miniature fell out, it counted as actually having fallen from the moving vehicle (i.e. it was probably going to die). Guy who owned the battlewagon was laughing as he moved the foot-high pile of orks in battlewagon around the table, and then tripped sending orks in all directions.... (admittedly this was only awesome to the people watching events unfold!)

Infinity: The Aleph-biker chick rides past my Haqqislam Djanbazan, guns him down and drives on. But, my opponent had forgotten that my Djanbazan had the 'regenerate' special rule; you can imagine the slurping and clicking (manga-style) as the Djanbazan pulled himself slowly to his feet (bits of broken flesh hanging off), raising his rifle in one arm and guns down the biker who is complete unaware of what is happening behind her

Epic: The site of 20-25,000 pts of Imperial vs. Orks. A dozen titans, entire tank and infantry companies against a dozen or more Gargants and everything else, an entire clan of Orks, all arrayed on about 16ft length of table. Absolutely 'epic' !

Every dungeon-crawling game ever made: My dwarf character falling down a pit or into a trap. It has happened in various games!

Once I had a lone Stormboy take down a Bloodthirster in combat. That was a very special moment.

I also, more recently, had a squad of Gretchin shoot a flying Daemon Prince down. That was also extremely entertaining, for me if not for the Chaos player.

In my first game of 3rd Edition, a squad of Imperial Guardsmen took down an Eldar Avatar with one turn of shooting. Shooting their Lasguns.

That would basically never happen in 2nd Ed. I was sold.

Cozy cockpit of an Imperial Knight

Watching a WAAC player pick up his models and leave because he got a taste of his own medicine.

Personally though, having my Knight Paladin rampage through Tau lines with its Reaper, felling a Riptide, a Skyray, a Hammerhead containing Longstrike and a slew of Fire Warriors before succumbing to several deep-striking suits with fusion guns. Icing on the cake was having my Castigator blow his Barracuda out of the air, despite not having skyfire but trying anyway.
