"Morale restored!"

Meet General-Commissar Eve Hauser, my tabletop warlord and one-time Only War character, leading a charge.

It has been a long wait, but after three and a half years I've finally gotten my art commission, done by the talented Nicolàs R. Giacondino, who used to be known as Aerion-the-faithful for the longest of time in the 40k community. It's been a long wait, sadly he took on way more than he could handle at the time, though he has been upfront about it and has over time upgraded the size and quality of the commissions as he tackled them. I have been impatient, not to mention somewhat worried myself at several stages, even leading to me contacting him late last year, which may have in turn perhaps sped up the process of getting my own art done. Regardless, it has been worth the wait and he has been most professional with my many, and I do mean many, special, specific requests for details, such as..

- A particular design of revolver (a Webley) and a cavalry type sabre
- A certain type of carapace cuirass with distinctive refractor gorget as worn by some officers of the Imperial Guard
- Specific commendations including the Medallion Crimson and Honorifica Imperialis
- The usual commissar costume porn consisting of a greatcoat with epaulettes, a red sash and white gloves, I love me some costume porn!

But most importantly.. have her leading a charge (or some other pulpy war movie cliché! ) without looking horribly out of place. So, none of the usual tabletop miniature clichés like sporting a boob window, a short skirt or the like, she's a proper Schola Progenium graduate and will have none of that inappropriate, non-functional attire! Add in his amazing trademark use of a limited colour palette, with a nice grey-scale background that doesn't draw away from the central figure and I've got something I can't wait to frame and put up on my wall.

His extensive gallery spanning quite a few years of excellent work can be found here!

Fantastic! I'm sure the wait was killer, but the end result is an incredible piece of art.

It's a very cool piece. The Webley is a nice touch. Is it completely digital? If so, was it sent to you as a print or as a digital file? Having a custom commissioned piece of 40K original artwork certainly puts you in a special category of geekdom. Congrats

It's 100% traditional art, done on paper and whatnot. I also got a high quality digital copy of it that's up to printing standards.

His trademark style, where he mostly uses markers to colour his pieces is something that divides quite a few people. I personally love it for the "pop" it brings to his images, though there are plenty who dislike it and compare it to John Blanche's work.

although i don't see the resemblance, i have been a Blanche fan for 30 years, so maybe that is a part of why i like Aerion's style so much...

it is the "pop" that i am always trying to capture in my mini painting...
i don't do subtle, or hyper-realistic...
i always say, my biggest influence for mini painting is the style of comic books and traditional tattoos...
bold colors, and black lines!!!

I think the comparison mainly comes from the notion that both artists mainly use a limited, but striking colour palette, as when I think of Blanche's art (and to some extent, his excellent conversions) red and yellow instantly come to mind!

It's the same with Nic, he doesn't do a lot of colours, but the ones he uses he uses to amazing effect where it immediately draws you towards certain aspects of the picture instantly.

I'd better shush now, I am nowhere near the artist or as knowledgeable as I'm pretentiously trying to sound like.

Awesome piece and congratulations!

Has the piece shown up in the mail yet? One word of advice, don't skimp on shipping and tracking and offer to pay extra for good packaging like hard board. Have gotten a couple pieces in the mail. Have had some lovely pieces arrive in the mail wrecked.

I did offer to cover shipping, since it has been more than three years since I paid, but we'll see. He did warn me that it would take some time to reach me, but that's okay, I can wait a little bit longer.

Well done on the art commission Brook she looks freaking amazing as all hell, and by the looks of you've throw up another great artist for me to stalk.. I mean "watch" on
DevaintArt, some of that guys work looks vaguely familiar, might of seen it used on some wargaming blogs or something, not 100% sure.

I'm also gonna second Jehan here, we really need to see a sculpt of this at some point, its too good not to.

Yow! Beautiful and subtle, well done that fella, and well done you for such an awesome character concept.
I am so so sick of tit-window, angry lady art, this is delightful.
I hope it reaches you safely! I'd be sitting with my nose under the mail-slot if I'm honest.

And I sympathise with your wait and the artist-nudging guilt/worry... I paid someone fairly well known in the comic industry, cash in hand last November, "I need to take these home to finish..." Haven't even seen the inks.

Congrats, Brook. It's a great piece of art. Make sure we get a photo of it hanging in your War Room (or wherever) once it arrives!

Also looking forward to the model. LMK when you find a sculptor that fits both of those criteria - I need something sculpted myself.

He still has a massive backlog dating back almost four years now that he needs to work away first. Though if you're really interesting in commissioning him, leave a comment on his DeviantArt page and he'll get back to you.
