Hey guys and gals its J and I'm working on some ultramarines, I'm just getting into the hobby and I'm not good at painting by any standard but I'm having fun so I'm going to post pictures below and update as often as I can but if anybody has any suggestions I would very much appreciate it so I'm starting with a basic tactical squad, I'm waiting on magnets for the Sergeant and special weapons but the seven Bolter marines are good to go and I'm painting them now so I'll go ahead and post pics. I'm using a video by the ApethiticFish from YouTube to help me out so if your curious of the steps just search him up on YouTube! I also enjoy making terrain probably more than modeling the miniatures but I have to have at least a few points to play with so with out further ramblings here are my work in progress pics!

So here are the seven Bolter marines, don't mind the guy with two bolters for some reason I though it was cool but I fixed that already so he looks normal now

The other six reviving the base layer of Macragge blue, notice the double Bolter guy no longer looks weird

Always nice to see more Ultramarines out there! Welcome to the chapter.

I know some people like to fully assemble before painting, but you might want to consider working in stages. Leaving the bolter off makes it easier to get to the chest/belt.

You are off to a good start.

Jumping ahead I finished the 6 remaining Bolter marines

The purity seals were probably the most fun to do so far but I'm looking forward to main ring the plasma gun and plasma pistol

Thanks! Oh ya that's a great idea so you would like do the torso, legs, head, and backpack before even gluing the weapon on? That would definitely lower the amount of touch ups I have to do after go between the gun and the body. Thanks for the advice

Looks good to me dude. I suggest watering down the paints a little. Keep up the good work dude.

I'm working on the seargent, special weapons, and heavys now. My plan is to magnetize all the pieces so I can swap out the options as the need arises.

This is what I have so far

Good call. Magnetize early, magnetize often. Sarges have enough options that I add or drop things from them when I make lists all the time.

Some things it’s just easier to grab extra power armor bodies and make more marines (special and heavy weapon foot troops) but for the more flexible options, a good stack of magnets in invaluable.

I like the simple, straight forward paintjob of your ultramarines. Looking good so far. Keep it up!

Thanks for the support guys I really appreciate it! I looked on eBay and found the torsos and backpacks, there not to expensive so I think I'll go that route instead for the heavy and special weapons because trying to do the torso on the seargent was a nightmare. I meant for them to be a little brighter but I kind of like the darker color, more realistic in my opinion, it's only tabletop quality so it's not to great.

I'm taking Nevelon's advice and I'm getting the bits to make the three special weapons. So I went ahead and assembled the melta gunner and missile launcher. I'm waiting to attach the arms until the models are painted.

Talked to my brother for a bit and it's just more economical for me to just do the extra work and magnetize all the options that come in the box, here's what I have so far

I went back to the Bolter marines and I tried to touch up the eyes and the spots I hit with too much silver before. The special weapons and seargent are drying now from the primer.
