What would you guys suggest for gaming the latest Mad Max movie, something that handles cars and long chase mechanics where everything's moving?

I've played this and it seems to fit the bill as well as having its own line of minis to go with it.

It has all the Mad Max tropes.

Not to be a jerk, but I think we should probably try suggesting games that are still in production and supported by their creators.

Dark Future was a thing, but it has sooo many pieces to collect so if trawling eBay is your thing then go for it, oh you may need to sell your firstborn as well as an arm, leg, and kidney.

Try Warlands, the rules can be downloaded and the minis are a good value. You can even use Hot Wheels cars with gubbins glued on to represent units.

A new Kickstarter has been started, although you would have to wait until Feb next year for the release !

Otherwise Warlands looks pretty good, of course has one of these in the range..

Devil's Run: Route 666 is currently running on Kickstarter.

Cars. Bikes. Guns. Rolling road mechanic.

Rather similar to Dark Future, but more Mad Max.

There's a thread in News and Rumours.

There are some cool car combat games out there.
Car wars and Warband are some commercial rulesets.

Dark Future was put up on the Games Workshop site for free for awhile, I'm sure you can fine the PDF around the web.
There is a cool site with additional rules for Dark Future including off road combat - no need for road boards:
http://futurehighways.roll2dice.com/articles/offroad.html

Other free games:
http://www.stevebeangames.com/about-me/axels-alloys-2-dork-future/

https://misternizz.wordpress.com/digital-rules/#RoadWarrior

Most of these games use matchbox scale cars, there is a site for extra add-ons. I've never purchased from them though: http://www.stanjohansenminiatures.com/Road.htm

My club has done alot of mad-max type gaming over the years. There are lots of great post-apoc rulesets, but finding one that makes vehicular and melee combat work in the same 28mm game is a bit more challenging. 2 suggestions for you.

Nuclear Renaissance- This free ruleset by Ramshackle games has an excellent balance between vehiclular combat and man-to-man combat. The "Tome of Triddlins" expansion is not quite as well done, but it adds alot of great wasteland tropes and features to the game and is well worth the $8 or so that the PDF costs. http://www.ramshacklegames.co.uk/nuclear/downloads.html
Ramshackle also makes an excellent selection of post-apoc vehicles that really fit the mad-max aesthetic. You can see the AAR's from some of our NucRen games here:
http://chicagoskirmish.blogspot.com/search?q=nuclear

The other ruleset that we used to play quite a bit is Wastelands. It's also free and gone through quite a few revisions over the years. You can find the latest version here:
http://s1.zetaboards.com/Post_Apoc_Wargames/forum/996833/
The forum at the like is entirely devoted to post-apoc wargaming and definitely worth a look.

I used to use it to run an Mad Max "Road Warrior" type of scenario game at conventions. A 14 foot long board made for quite an event.
http://chicagoskirmish.blogspot.com/2012/05/atomic-highway-little-wars-battle.html

Post apoc is, IMHO one of the best genres for mix and max DIY kind of gaming. There aren't many popular minis/rules/fluff package games that really capture the feel, but there are quite a few companies making suitable post-apoc miniatures.
-Ramshackle games (also has the best range of post-apoc vehciles and parts around)
-EM4
-Kalistra
-Lead Adventure
-Reaper
ā€¦ just to name a few.

Also, the plentiful nature of cheap 1/43 die cast cars means that the options for conversion are numerous.

I've blogged quite a few of my creations, but my favorite is still my take on the Mad Max V8 interceptor.
http://chicagoskirmish.blogspot.com/2012/04/last-v8-interceptor.html

Lastly, if you'd rather do a smaller scale (Hot wheels are aprox 20mm scale), then the suggestions above such as Car Wars or Warlands are good ones. For a nice rolling-road kind of game, also check out the rules and vehicle-how-to's at Iron Hands/Necromundicon.
http://www.ironhands.com/roadwolf.htm

Enjoy!

Check out Wyrmalla's Fallout thread for inspiration.

Wyrmalla has made a lot of very cool terrain that wouldn't look out of place in a Mad Max game. Same too for Wyrmalla's Fallout miniatures.

Gorkamorka is good for orky fun, but the rules are a bit clunky with some notable holes and there's only so much you can do with it to build vehicles. NucRen has much of the same capabilities with far more versatility as well as the ability to build vehicles that really match the Mad Max universe.

Just play a regular game of 40k with two vehicle-heavy Ork armies! I just saw the new Mad Max movie earlier today, and it almost made me want to play Orks! I'd swear I even heard one guy shout WAAAAGH! during one of the combat scenes. 40k Ork players simply must see the movie if only for conversion ideas!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

Dark Future definitely had a more Mad Max vibe than did Car Wars.

Steve Jackson said he did not want to make the game exactly like Mad Max.

For instance, if you read the various Car Wars Fiction, you discover that the cars don't run off gasoline, but something else (what else Steve was very nebulous about).

But Car Wars DOES allow you to build really insane cars.

The mechanics for Car Wars are a little insane, though. It was created during a time of overkill of specificity in rules mechanics (lots of rule-lawyers sorts of things).

This is one area where GW's avoidance of specifics actually helped one of their games.

Plus, GW understood the fringe, underground, or alternative scene which would be attracted to such a game better.

Having read it, it seems over-complicated. However, it is free, and you can get it (as well as most other Necro and Gorka books) at YakTribe.

Look into this forum's Post Apocalyptic board. Lead Adventure already has dozens of topics about how to turn Mad Max into a miniature's game. Off the top of my head there must be a half dozen ongoing ones, at least one discussing which rules are the most appropriate, and another with tons of custom vehicles. Vehicle carnage isn't my thing, but aye there's a gakton of threads on this topic on that forum already. =P

Bonus points that there's a guy there selling 28mm Mad Max models.

Oh, superb! Very fond memories.
I somehow ended up with a covered old army wagon being used as a mobile library, but there's not much room in there for books after I stole a horse...
