I'm not talking about figures only here, but everything that has to do with the hobby, including paints, tools, cases, rules, figures... basically everything you can think of.

I checked my budgeting program to see how much I spent since I re-started the hobby in the fall of 2013, so nearly two years, and it's around SEK 36000 ($4200). My averages are

Average per month since october 2013:

Total hobby spending: SEK 1600 ($190)
Spending on figures: SEK 500 ($60)
Spending on tools, paints, cases, terrain etc: SEK 850 ($100)

Pretty surprised to see how much more I spend on accessories than figures, on average... but I love building terrain so that's where a lot of that comes from. $190 per month is way too much so I really want to cut it down, especially since we have a 16 month old and I should be saving money for the future, but that plastic crack...

I make about £300 a month atm (start my apprenticeship soon though thank god) and I probably spend about £80-100 a month on the hobby. Which is quite a lot but I know a lot of people my age who spend about that much if not more on going out and drinking every month, at least I have something to show for it afterwards.

Funnily enough me and my wife get "allowance" to do whatever we want with after all the bills and normal expenses have been budgeted (around £2300), and that allowance is around £250 per person... and ideally a large part of it should go into my personal savings, only it doesn't. So I guess I'm just as bad as you

Yeah I'm godawful at saving money. It burns a hole so quickly. It's something I'm gonna need to address when I start working properly next month. Luckily I'm in a situation atm where the majority of my money is disposable income where I'm still living with my mum and past the amount I give her for keep each month I don't have bills or anything to pay, but I need to sort it out before I'm in that situation really haha.

About $50AUD per month, all up.

Sometimes less, sometimes more.

Far less than I used to do, in the seven months I suppose I have used around 2700 NOK and most of that has been on bundle deals and what not plus storage cases for what I already have

A bit over two years ago I sold the last of my M:tG cards for store credit, and tracked how I spent it. Starting with a bit over $2,000, over two years, works out to about $85 a month. There was some assorted non-store money spent over those two years, but less then $100 spread over the time. Here is the summery post from my blog

A quick summery of where it went:

Minis were about 60% of the budget
Rules made up 18%
Hobby support (including the case) made up another 18%
Gifts took up the last 6%

Mine goes up and down a lot, some months will be almost nothing.
Next month could be $600 or more.
The room I use is also multi purpose, so shelving and a new table that I use for both hobby could be shared expenses.

So it's a really hard thing to work all out.

I've been spending ~£140 per month over the last year, which is most of my disposable income. However over a longer period of time I go through years where I don't buy anything at all and I spend my money on other things.

It goes in waves... depending on if there is an army getting started up during that time. Some months its a few hundred bucks... some months its $0. This year (8Mo) has been:

$300 into Infinity (new game startup, though rulebook and Icestorm were purchased last year and sat around a while)
$400 into infinity terrain
$100 into WM/H
$20 into random minis

I guess that prorates to a bit over $100/mo.

I've also sold some stuff
($200) WM/H / 40k, and looking to offload even more.

Not sure. I should better keep track of my spendings.
Maybe a spreadsheet would help.

I set aside about $40 per month for the hobby. If I want to pick up something good, I wait a few months. Keeps me from going overboard with it. Just a unit per month is plenty to keep my various armies stocked and growing.

I would suggest paying for the wonderful program You Need A Budget. I've been using it for close to two years and it's pretty amazing.

I second this. I picked it up in a Steam sale when I was a spending spree, getting just everything that was on sale. It might not have stopped my impulse spending but it helped reduce it and made sure I put the right amount away for necessary bills.

Wow, is that every pay cheque? Sheesh, my wife and I have allowed ourselves $25 USD per pay cheque. I feel like I'd eventually have to look for stuff to spend that much on. I'd say I spend $30 USD or so a month on average as there are months where I don't need anything.

$20-$30 a month sounds about right. I'm at a point in my life where stuff doesn't equal happiness.

It is, but it comes at the expense of not putting anything into savings for a house/vacations at the moment, and we'll probably change it soon. It includes stuff like clothes as well, not just pure splurging. Although we probably won't go much lower than £150/$235. Do you guys save a lot?

I've been trying to stop buying stuff and paint my massive backlog of miniatures. I probably have enough stuff to last me many months, depending on how fast I buzz through it. Before, I was probably spending $60-80 per month, which is really more than I can afford considering I also eat out sometimes. Last couple of bank statements had me saying "What the ?!" so I have decided to stop for the time being.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

I generally keep it under 50 bucks a month, but sometimes it might go up to a hundred. Other months it'll be almost zero. I try not to go over a hundred unless I'm buying a new game. Its more of a self control issue than a lack of funds however.

That's understandable then. We currently live with my parents in a spare room and we are using that kindness to knock out our university bills at an accelerated rate along with putting money into savings to put a nice down payment on a house when the time comes, and at the current rate we will have our university expenses taken care of in two years at the current rate. We simply don't want to have those bills hanging over our heads when we get a house and are starting a family. This is all a reaction to 2013-2014 where we both lost our jobs (mine as a GW manager) and both our cars giving out and having to buy new ones to ensure reliability to said jobs before they let us go. Bad year. Anyway, I would love to be able to spend more, but it is what it is. It just drastically curbs my enthusiasm for GW as I'd have to save a month+ to buy something. /endsobstory
