Subject: Re:[KT] Report on your Kill Team projects!
After 2 months of tedious painting I have finished my Into The Dark board and have already played a few games on it. I am really happy with the finished board, but it really felt like a chore at times, more than any other project I remember. I'm happy it's done, but I will also add some Light Terrain and removable Vantage points so that these walls can also be used for an Open board.

The bases of my two Votaan teams are now labeled!
Named & #d. With a matching # stickers on the cards.
I did this because neither my regular opponents nor I are overly familiar with Votaan.
They all look alike to us atm & it proved a real pain trying to ID each model visually with the little partial pic on their cards a few weeks ago.
So, while I've been sitting around enjoying the sub-zero temps my areas been having this past week, I did something useful.
I added two more marines to update my White Scars KT to include the new Angels of Death options - Captain and Phobos Sniper. I decided not to bother with the Heavy Gunner, 4" Move isn't something that I expect to win me any games.

Finally gave in to the dark gods and purchased the Blooded team of Traitor Guardsmen.
Its a solid evil team while also serving as an ideal "expansion" for Blackstone Fortress, so long as one can find the rules for the Enforcer and his Ogyrn buddy. "Blackstone Fortress New Order" is worth a search for those interested.

One of our Kill Team regulars wrote simplified lists without gazillion special rules to play around with wackier scenarios and chill, so we tested them today with a trio of narrative games. A mining planet's gubernator went on a run with his treasure-laden train and our intrepid workers graciously rid him of such burdens by repossessing his ride from full speed.

Care to share the rules for these scenarios? And what toy cars did you use? Their scale fits perfectly.
Cheers, the KT actives here have a nice groove going on with their terrain making. The cars are prints from some indie skirmish firm, can't remember which one.
The day consisted of 2-3 rounds of games, where the main attraction was the train table. Initially the train was manned by NPO's and 2-3 groups were invading it, with objectives in two parts of the train for either nabbing stuff or controlling the vehicle itself. The cars had three 6" move points available to them and the terrain around the train kept sliding backwards between every ten or so activations among the players. In subsequent games the previously victorious crew would man the train and more bastards would try to come and wrestle it from them. Side missions on other tables would see gangs raiding fuel pumps to get enough gas for their own cars in order to race the train, raid the governor's abandoned secret basement projects and so on. With the teams being simplified, the equipment system was also tied to random card draws and stuff you could scrounge up from your games.
Spent Friday painting the Blooded Chaos Ogryn but far longer figuring out how to implement the BSF "fragmented" base. Lots of trial and error but I think I've got it now...
Smooth the base with sandpaper and then using a stanley knife, score the design into the surface of the base. With a thicker pocket knife, go over the cuts and carefully use the tip to engrave them wider. Once it looks good its a final smoothing once again as all that knife work has left the walls of the cuts with rough plastic sticking up.
A trip to my local model shop Model Junction, tomorrow, for some fine detail brushes and I should be looking at a finished Ogryn very soon.
Finally got the detail brushes and I've spent the day trying to nail the BSF-style base, which I somehow decided to go with a slaanesh-style "glow" between the fragments and...it look okayish. Definitely would spend a load more effort on engraving the fragment design, as I had so much trouble letting the lightler pink flow through it. A bit easier than freehanding it all, but...uuurggghh..
So the Ogryn is now table-ready but I think I might purchase another base and give it another shot.

A new project finished, very much not in my regular style, intentionally. I went for more loose, messy vibe, with very little precise work with small brushes, but mostly artsy slop of glazes, oil paints and effects over base colours painted by stabbing models with ragged pieces of a bath sponge I like the dirty result, pretty much what I was hoping for.

Well, my 40k army is Imperium (yes, "just" Imperium!) which I share with my elder brother,... so even when we dont collect regular Space Marines or Mechanicus, we have half the killteam range through Imperial Guard, Imperial Agents and Sisters of Battle already. I also bought a Phobos from old magazine issues for dirty cheap that I can use as killteam too.
On top of that, my elder brothers have Death Guard (+ cultists of all sort), Black Templars, Tyranids and Drukhari. We also bought a few Killteam boxes so gotta add Vespids, Wrecka team and we're gonna get some combat patrol issues in the future, so genestealers will definitely be an option too at least.
Earlier this year, my elder and I split our biggest Imperium force in half, the Imperial Guard, due to Krieg release. He went Death Korps and I kept my old 2003 cadians. I preordered gak toon of new Cadia issues from Combat Patrol magazines which will take almost a year to come to my country,... but thats by far my most desired project.
Besides using it as a regular 40k army, my most ambicious project is heavily customizing 20 Cadians into veterans, Hell's Last led by Minka Lesk, using Krieg extra sprues from my brother and other sprues we have from Imperial Agents, old Cadians and so on. Despite having so many cool killteams I can use and try, this is the one I'm more eager to try by far (unless they release Catachans, my wallet hopes they wont!).
CADIA STANDS!
PD: I also wrote very throughout and extensive and well thought rules for Officio Assassinorum, for Joint co Ops missions. I tested Callidus and she was so much fun. They are designed to only use one operative.

Been thinking on ideas for 30K Heresy. One of them is inspired by today's Ruinstorm pdf. I really like the MKIV assault marines, and been thinking of them as a group of Blackshield "pirates"...being semi-airborne, and maybe they have an aircraft transport that get's them about, enabling them to strike from the air?
The idea is that as Horus' force pushes forward towards Terra, it leaves behind dead planets in it's wake, and any survivors are prey to the daemons that trail behind. Brothers from both sides of the conflict are forgotten, and thus all are fair game for the daemons, and the only chance for survival is to band together.
Not sure if I will follow it up, as I have many other projects unfinished, but I think it would be ideal for a PvE solo-coop swam-repel mission.
