I'm toying with the idea of picking up the 40k Chaos Daemons Combat Patrol box, and I was wondering if it would double up for a viable Chaos Daemons force in AoS?

For thise who are not aware it has the following models:

1x Bloodmaster
3x Bloodcrushers
10x Flesh Hounds (2 units of 5)
20x Bloodletters (2 units of 10)

Have only played AoS way back when it first came out (when it had all the silliness), so no idea how it plaulys now, or even if I'd enjoy it... just interested to know if the box set offers an equivalent experience in AoS as ot does in 40k.

The objective of the game is to win. The point of the game is to have fun. The two should never be confused.

1 set is good. Flesh hounds you are unlikely to need more.

Looking a solid starting force there. Essentially because AoS doesn't do mixed daemons.

Looks good. Should be useful for The Old World too, the best thing about daemons is the cross compatibility.

Tow specifically was revealed to not have daemons.

Pardon my harsh words, but I feel this is an extremely deceptive statement. Even more so for being made to a newcomer seeking information.

GW explicitly confirmed that while not present in the Narrative, daemons would not only have rules but would have them available as a free pdf download starting on launch day. Proof: https://www.warhammer-community.com/2023/05/23/old-world-development-diary-the-main-factions-revealed/

Though it concerned my Skaven, I just had this exact discussion at the shop the other day.

You know, that sounds like Bretonnians and Tomb Kings of Khemri in The Age of Sigmar.

With that thought in play, you might to consider that might be the source of concern.

Are you a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Hound?

"Chaos Daemons have existed in the past and will again, but there is an ebb and flow to the power of Chaos – in our period Chaos is at its lowest ebb in a long time. When Asavar Kul rises to become the 12th Everchosen, the power of Chaos will build again, but we won’t see daemonic servants of individual gods for a while yet. Daemons and, especially, Daemon Princes exist, the latter given power by the belief of the mortals that worship them as demigods, but whole legions manifesting in the real world are currently incredibly rare."

No, it doesn't.

No, it doesn't.

It might end up like Beasts of Chaos in Age of Sigmar. If so, great. However, remember that was a long time coming and they were pretty much trash as the rest of the armies progressed.

However, they basically have abandoned Bretonnians and Khemri, and if the response isn't big enough, they may not get back to bringing Chaos Daemons at all.

to answer the actual question of the thread: Yeah, that's a very solid start to a blades of khorne army. Bloodthirsters work well in pairs especially if you build one as the "high ranking" bloodthirster build. bloodletters are good troops, built to counter ranged attackers. Bloodcrushers are good if a bit overshadowed by the amazing mortal bloodcrusher unit.

Flesh hounds are the only slightly niche unit.

Also, AOS point costs come to your rescue and youve built yourself nearly a 2k list - just add whatever tickles your fancy for flavor after this point. I think youd probably want some priests, like a skull altar chariot or some Heralds.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Flesh Hounds are excellent for cheap battleline and serving as outflankers/fast cavalry presenting not enough threat that they cost significant points, but definitely enough threat that they can't be brushed off or ignored.
