I actually clicked on this thread expecting 'Oh dear' but found myself very pleasantly suprised! The gundam colours on the suits work fantastically and suprisingly well, especially with your conversion work.
Personally I love the troop and the SD chibi look to the sergeants, they are gloriously silly in all the right ways, but be aware they are a love or hate thing, and many may not like them.
The only thing I'm not keen on is the transport, for me it seems too dark for a gundam theme, but the decal on the side is nice.
Overall they're lovely!
Very very nice until we got to the Fire Warrior squads. Why? Why? Why? Those Chibi heads or whatever they are just ruin it for me, if it was a whole army like that, then fine. But just plonking them on there in place of a FW helmet just does not do it for me. Sorry.
Wow, very well done, haha. I'm definitely curious how you did all the pictures on the skyray too. It all makes for a very impressive and striking force.
Now come on... The images on the Skyray MUST be printed off! If not, PLEASE come and paint something on my living room wall!
Seriously though, i clicked on this thread thinking, 'Oh no, i might vomit.' But i LOVE it, i have no idea why it works but it does!! Are you doing much more? Please do. This is definitely an exalted thread for me!
it was a matter of time before someone mixed tau and anime I like your gundam themed battlesuits, the colors are crisp and fit well
I'm not too keen the firewarriors, but that's because all the details in the armor don't stand out so well, (at least to me anyways)
and the freehand on the sky ray is just amazing
well painted and well executed, but there is nothing that I hate more on God's green earth than anime...just seeing it combined with something as cool as 40k infuriates me
On a side note, on my list of armies to-do (after my DE coven and eldar...) one day, I want to do a Tau list using 1:144 Gundam kits for the stealth suits, because why the hell not right
starhawks wrote:well painted and well executed, but there is nothing that I hate more on God's green earth than anime...just seeing it combined with something as cool as 40k infuriates me
I always find comments like these strange. I have always viewed the Eldar as a very Anime esque army
Not to mention vocaloid isnt even an anime, its music
I must say I find this very cool overall, except for the Shas'ui. They don't fit in, IMO. However, the broadside is great, and the skyray - is that freehand, or printed on in some way? If it is freehand, then WHOA...
I second that, its not a freehand. If he can do that for freehands but paint the rest of his army mediocore (compared to THAT 'freehand'!), I don't buy that. But nonetheless, it looks nice.
I reminds me of a strange mixture of anime and lego that works? What? It's amazing but...What...I mean the b-b-b-big anime heads with legoy colours...MY MIND!!!!
Just fought a battle against this army last night. Must say, they are just as awesome in person as they are in the pictures. The paintjobs are super duper clean and the attention to detail is excellent! And as a pretty serious 40k player, I do enjoy stepping outside the box a bit for a bit of fun
i really like the bright colors and i think you have done a really good job. The poses on the suits are really cool. I'm not fond of the doll heads (just my opinion) but as a whole, the army is done very well.

LOL! You caught that! Awesome!

Thanks! Yes, more are on the way. I'm finishing up a new unit of Fire Warriors (The Twins will make their debut soon), more Suits, and Haro Shield Drones! -maybe more vehicles later on
kenshin620 wrote:Not to mention vocaloid isnt even an anime, its music
I don't think most are ready for the concept of Vocaloid, (-it would probably make most people's head's explode, kind of like meeting the Emperor, I would imagine.) So I just grouped them into the overall anime theme.
I've already said this in your battle report but I absolutely LOVE your army. And I think the vocaloid heads fit nicely with the general theme. If I did not already have a biker army and my SoB order to deal with I would had rushed to get me some Gunda..err Battle Suits :p

Thanks Sol! That was a fun battle! That was the first time going up against a Chaos army. Chaos is scary. We're going to have to do a rematch sooner or later hahaha
n0t_u wrote:I'm assuming the pulse rifles of the pink ones are tuna rifles then? Kind of interested to see how you'll do a Luka tank.
This army looks great. I sometimes think that the seriousness of the hobby the art takes away from the fact it's meant to be fun. And your army sir, looks like great fun both to have painted but also to play against!
Great job and keep it up.
PS - If you can manage it my favourite is death scythe hell, lol
Saw the Crisis suits, and jaw dropped. I'd score those high in a painting contest any day. The bobble heads are on the fence for me though. They look great, but take away from the serious awesome nature of the rest.
The Gundam suits are cool and the drones as Haros is cool too. I am emphatically not a fan of the giant anime heads on the Fire Warriors though. They give me really creepy vibes. The pink and turquoise armor actually looks pretty good on Fire Warriors though. I'm also a big fan of the white armor on the suits - it's very hard to get a white that nice.
Yes, nice touch! Miku team has leak colored rifles, and someone spotted the seeker-leeks on the Sky-ray! Nice adaptation!
If I were to paint a new batch of tau suits and such, I think "Appleseed" and "Bubble-Gum Crisis" will be the suits' theme for colors. This has inspired me to come up with such a theme, my Tau force is BIG and very Military(camouflaged). Time for some bright colors in my area!
juraigamer wrote:Wonderful painted army. Though I personally wouldn't have used the nenodroid heads for LOS issues...
haha... true, but that wouldn't have been half as fun to do. but the army was built as a fun one, so it's OK. Quite honestly, if I'm fielding my Broadside on the table, it gets all the attention, and the Fire Warriors just go about getting the business done.

Again 7yler, nice work! Decals were cool too.
Thanks! I was contemplating using the Forge World suits as Appleseed styled Landmates, but that would have been pretty expensive.. However, using the regular Suits as AD Police K-11 and K-12 Armored Troopers would be pretty nice! (oh, you gave me a totally badass idea.... hahahaha )
If you can pull off the Knight Sabers, that would be awesome. That series is one of my most favorite (exception, to Tokyo2040. )

Well, I do need to get a replacement copy of Bubble-Gum to refresh my memories, and it is a hold off for now while I finish other projects(some already paid for by clients), and then take the metals stealths, strip and repaint them tot he Knight Sabre colors. (I always felt the Stealth teams were more female pilots as their waists were actually less in size than a FW, but I see Tau as being co-ed anyway!)
Hmmm, K-11 and K-12 suits, almost forgot about those big buggers!
I love the scheme, it fits the theme for the Tau to the letter, except there were no aliens in Gundam, that was Macross, and a Skull 1 Tau Crissis suit would probably look pretty BA too
New squad looks great too. Whats next in the plans? Sorry if thats a stupid question i don't know anything about this vocaloid you speak of. Pretty models though haha!
Please don't take this the wrong way but i think the Fire warriors could use a wash and re-highlight. A Badab Black wash followed by re-painting the armour panels in the original colour would really make them pop out. It wont detract from the bright colours either, if anything it will add to it and help define them. Anyway those are just my two cents and it might just be that i'm not seeing highlights and shading on my old and tired graphics card. As i said before, i love this army. I take my hobby quite seriously, i truly never thought i would like any of the humorous less intense models that people do, you proved me wrong. Good job!
WAIT! I've spotted a mistake! The shins of your reposed battlesuits are backwards. The broadside one is the only truly apparent one. No big deal, I made that mistake on my first reposed crisis suit.

thanks! I put a little too much dull cote on them, and it frosted over a bit and took out the orange wash I did (granted, it was pretty light) might go and revisit them later, I'm kind of burnt on the Fire Warriors for now. Finishing up drones, and some more suits. after that Luka gets a Sky Ray. and I really let it go on a hammerhead or two.

The giant heads may be a little funky, but it's what he wanted to do and he has done it damn near impeccably, painted it well and he's happy with it.
But in the end, pointless negative comments like that, especially when his work is cleaner than your own are really uncalled for whether you happen to like it or not.
When I think of kids saving up every penny they earn, mowing lawns, doing dishes, walking dogs, delivering 50 kilos worth of sunday newspapers on a little BMX with a precariously balanced milk crate; the sheer amount of labour that goes into a $5 a fortnight worth of pocket money that a primary aged schoolkid accomplishes, just to scrape together the funds to purchase a box of overpriced plastic spacemen (not to mention the hours upon hours of infuriatingly tedious painting one such kid will do to make his rad spacedudes not look like a vaguely soldier-shaped glob of paint) and then I see some goon blow easily a few hundred bucks on identical said spacemen only to create the aesthetic abominations in this thread, well, I weep for the poor child that will carefully line up his hard won, sweat and blood earned accomplishment opposite on the table.
These are awful. Lose the atrocious heads, get a coherent colour scheme and an appropriate sense of shame/self awareness.

Again, this is well done and well made. By your logic - ANYONE who is over 15 and makes money and has a decent army pisses on these kids, and most kids will think it's cool.
Just because you don't like it doesnt mean it's bad it just means it's your opinion not that he should stop doing what he likes. Don't be an ass - I'd love playing this army it's amusing as hell.
Oh - and my Talos and Cronos are a toaster and kettle respectively.
Those crisis suits look fantastic! Although I'm not a fan of the chibi-headed sarges, I love the idea of color-coded squads. How'd you manage that decal on the ray?
Howzit! Man I miss being over there. As I am sure these are taking the field at Ward Warehouse game nights! Wish i was back on the island to see these in person, would love to run my orks at em just for the photo ops.
Very nicely done. Care to share how exactly the decals were done, I would be very interested in that. Nicely done all around sir, nicely done.
On a small side note if you see them tell Kyle, Joe and Clay that Josh says Hi.
After reading LemonVendor1's comments i feel like jumping back in and saying how wonderful i find your models every single time i come back to look at them! I think some people might be missing the point a bit, then again maybe i am. Correct me if i'm wrong, although your army may use Tau models they aren't meant to be Tau, or even 40k. Obviously they're built to be used in the 40k game but they are your personal artistic creation based on Anime, Vocaloid and Gundam. And what a beautiful creation they are. I'd suggest people look at the doll heads(the part there are most complaints about) as i do, simply as a) artistic creations that very closely follow the Anime theme, and b) a great example of what i like to call toy cutting, where toys are cut up/converted into even cooler objects. Anyway i could be wrong, please correct me if i am 7yler.
Hopefully, if people see the project as "7yler's Anime Army" like it says in the title, and not "7yler's Tau Army" then they will be able to understand and enjoy the Vocaloid heads.
Anyway, sorry for garbling on, i adore your work and i can't wait to see more of it. I hope there are lots more dolls for you to cut up and many more squads in the pipeline!

and I got the 3-hit combo. cool!
Seriously, Thanks Everyone! I appreciate all the opinions!
Manchu and others who have asked about the decals, they are custom ones I had made, along with RECKLESS use of decal solvent/fixer. the big decal took a whole night of work.
Ovion, I LOVE the toaster and the kettle! what do the coffee mugs do? (aside from holding dice)
Captain Vyper, I wish I could get down to Other Realms more, Monday night gaming is still on down there, wish I could go more, but, work keeps getting in the way. Next time I'm down there I'll let the guys know.
'LostSoul, -sort of, you have the right idea. However, they are Tau. They just work for MY Greater Good. The army is basically a collection of different themes I may pay homage to within Anime / Japanese Pop Culture world that I think would be interesting to be done, using the Tau as my canvas.

Ah fair enough! Would you consider altering the faces? A small amount of green stuff and some paint to make the doll heads represent Tau would be amazing. In fact if you did it you might just achieve godlike status in my eyes, that'd be insane.
7yler wrote:Ovion, I LOVE the toaster and the kettle! what do the coffee mugs do? (aside from holding dice)
The teacups are to represent pain tokens. Initially I was going to have The Kettle of Eternal Suffering (the cronos) give them out individually, and originally they were going to be doll-house ones but my girlfriend found a ceramic childrens playset in poundland, which was 4 for a pound (rather than 6 for £5), so I bought 8.
Turns out a dice fits neatly in them so now it's just the pain token counter for my whole army
Except for the Toaster. The Toaster of Lost Souls it uses Toast.
Even though I really dislike anime, this is a very nice and original army. Great job!
Funny how some people like LemonVendor get around stuff like this. He is obviously jealous, if any of you looked at his models, they are very sub par compared to what is in this thread.
I'm seriously terrified by the heads. I like the general feel of the army, but I'm also seriously freaked out by it. I'm impressed and sickened at the same time...
Zefig wrote:7yler- Continue to be impressed with the army, it's awesome and quite well done.

Automatically Appended Next Post: And Ovion, your army's got some awesome conversions in it too, haha. Rather absurdist, I like it.
How in the world am I "going down the same road"? I just find it funny that those that berate others work, in their own thread mind you, usually have sub-par work themselves. If you read into it any more than that, you were mistaken.
Now, to get on topic, are there any plans for Kroot for this army?
Let's put it this way. He made his attack on stylistic choices made, he got his suspension, and now he's gone. How does denigrating his own painting help anything?
I find the sentiment misplaced, and in the interest of not straying too far off topic I'll limit myself to that.
killykavekommando wrote:WAIT! I've spotted a mistake! The shins of your reposed battlesuits are backwards. The broadside one is the only truly apparent one. No big deal, I made that mistake on my first reposed crisis suit.
White Dwarf ran an article on reposing crisis suits a long time ago and they advised people to simply turn the shin around. I've seen hundreds of models like that, it's pretty much common place. I wouldn't call it a mistake.
Love it man. The chibi heads are a little much, but might as well use em if you got em! And most people will be too distracted by them to even notice the Gundams falling from orbit lol. There's way too many similarities between the two, keep up the good work! I'd love to see Altron Gundam!
Ok just found this whilst searching for Tau armies to base painting off from. You my friend have made my number one to base my Tau after. Mainly because of the Gundam. I think I'm gonna model a few off from Gundam Kampfer from War in The Pocket. Which just so happens to be my favorite Gundam. Now if only I could give my models nuke bazookas....
It may also be the worst thing out there except for those Hello Kitty armies.
Seriously, creative, well built and awesome painting. I really liked the modification to the Skyray's front turret and the unique broadside construction.
Why do they need a new one?
Sure it's old, but you can still collect and play the force - I just started a Tau army, going to run 1-3 battleforces + 2 Hammerheads to start, and frankly I don't think the large number of 30" S5 shots will do badly, even at BS3. Then theres the hammerheads beatsticks
Sure the armies old and probably outshone by a lot but doesnt mean you cant still have fun with it.
Thanks for all the comments everyone!
I'm putting the finishing touches on a brand new unit, and a bunch of new stuff will be posted up soon!
Get ready for more crazy creations!

OK! A bunch of new units added to the Army! The OP has been updated with lots of new pics! Additional units include: "Haro" Shield Drones, new Crisis Suits, and......
Introducing the start of my Stealth Suit Team!
can you guess what I've made?
I love the look of this army, quite honestly it's the best Tau army I've seen to date. First time I ever saw Tau I instantly thought of anime and still do whenever I see them. The conversions and scratchbuilding are simply awesome and I for one just love the large heads, they tie together the theme of the army better than anything else. Also the decals on Miku's ride are the single most mindblowing thing since sliced bread.

Brilliant, just brilliant, keep up the good work.
wow. Thanks guys! This project keeps going because of all of you!
The Cyclone Suits were not really planned, but I got a killer deal on a pair, and the crazy ideas started speaking to me again. Guess I'll have to finish out the team with Rook and Lancer.
For the Luka fans, don't worry, I'm waiting for another Sky Ray. She gets one too.
I still think my project needs a lot of work, and I still have a lot to learn. Sliced bread? Thanks That means I'm catching up to Ovion! His Dark Eldar already give him toast.
If you guys would like to see this army in action, my gaming buddy Morehammer just posted up a battle report with my army battling Tyranids.
check it out!
. LOVe this. I applaud you for seeing your theme out, clean and well done. I dont care what you freehanded or whatever, the theme in this army is strong and well done, and very unique. And im sure many of us seeing a tau army have thought about gundam. Well done
I think you missed a golden opportunity when you made the broadside into Strike Freedom. Should've been a Wing Zero Custom. Twin Buster Rifles, angelic wings, the whole nine yards. Then you could've made a Farsight Strike Freedom. The weapon loadouts just strike me as more accurate that way... huge cannons for Zero, plasma rifle, Shield, and beam saber for Strike Freedom.
I suppose if you wanted to stay in SEED universe, you could've ran Strike Freedom alongside Launcher Strike for the huge gun. But tossing twin railguns on Strike Freedom just strikes me as a missed opportunity...
Whenever they release a new Tau codex, I may just shamelessly copy your paint scheme... except I like me some Gundam 00, so I'd be running along those lines...
(hmm... Exia/OO as a Farsight/other HQ suit, Seravee or Cherudim for a Broadside... Arios for an Elite 'vre suit, then run seperate units of Enact's (from Katharon) for burst cannon 'ui suits... yesss....)
I've never been a big Tau fan, but I'm a huge fan of this. The army is one big Crayola box of awesome. Between the Gundam suits and the extreme-anime what's not to love? Great job.
I love the work! You know something funny is that my tau army is based off of Zeon with Char as the current hq. But your army is very well detailed and converted, especially the strike freedom

haha I am for sure! Im starting a painting blog here on friday that shows my tau armies background and what I've got done so far. The char suit is most of the way done.
But back to the OP, do you have a gundam themed background for your tau forces at all, or perhaps some special weapons you might think of implementing into the game just for fun? Like a beam saber or the transam that gundams from 00 can do?

You know, I never really thought of any 'fluff or background story for my army. I kind of just started it with the suits, then it just started to get bigger from there.
As far as using them in-game. I keep them as how they are: Tau. No close combat units (Kroot being the exception), no special weapons from the anime or idea they are based from.
I know, kind of boring. But, I'm still trying to learn the fundamentals of the game and system. After I understand the rules a little better, watch out, that's when the crazy ideas start!

Oh that makes sense.lol I am still relatively new to playing the table top as well so I havn't added any special rules in or anything. But I am currently working on a background for my army, including adding in some of the characters like Char. It is posted here on dakka, but my painting abilities are no where near as good as yours are. But if you ever find yourself on the U.S. mainland with your 40k army we could have a pretty cool nemesis battle!

I agree. While the custom paintjobs work, the Chibi heads take away form the feel of the army.
Agreed with some posts above. The heads absolutely ruin it for me. They just seem there to say "Hey check this out!". Might as well have Naruto headbands on.

These guys would have to look something like a cross between a dub-step show and tokyo drift in a fire fight. just lasers everywhere and hammerheads drifting around and anime chicks doing whatever they do. Pretty sweet army, are you incorporating Gundam bits in or not?
While I personally don't care for the Chibi head effect, there is no failure in your effort and I'd be glad to play against someone that puts that much effort into making an army truly unique.

Automatically Appended Next Post: also, could link me to where you got the madoka magica figures :? my life isn't complete till I own them XD
I found them on ebay. There's a lot of different ones out there as you know, but if you are trying to use them for 40k. That size is a lot harder to get. Even the petite nendoroids are sometimes too big.
Anvildude wrote:So when're you making the Nanoha broadsides?
If I can figure out how to put a barrier jacket on a broadside and have it still look good. haha
n0t_u wrote:These new ones are much better than the others. The heads sort of fit in more. Maybe need to revisit some of the Vocaloid stuff now.
Thanks!... I didn't do anything really different from the first ones, just came out cleaner with all the practice. And I can't touch Miku and the gang, they got their own mojo going on once they hit the board, my gaming buddies will attest to this.
pistolepete wrote:These guys would have to look something like a cross between a dub-step show and tokyo drift in a fire fight. just lasers everywhere and hammerheads drifting around and anime chicks doing whatever they do. Pretty sweet army, are you incorporating Gundam bits in or not?
Hahahaha! More like EDM mixed with Vocaloid. And the lasers, and the girls. -I'll actually play that stuff when playing a game, if the guys allow it. If you ever watched Robotech and when the Zentradi first came into contact with Battle Music... yeah, it's like that. Actually, no Gundam bits, I try to keep it GW or FW, otherwise scratch build it if possible.
I hate anime, but this is absolutely just phenomenal. You have amazing clean painting skills, love the colors. Even though it is silly it is so well executed. I want to see a batrep of your anime army versus a Helo kitty army. There's got to be one out there done to his extreme.

Spoiler:
Why doesn't Homura have a rail rifle, or the biggest gun you can give her? And guess I gotta get started on the Walpurgisnacht Daemon Prince...
Thanks!
Originally I was thinking of giving her that, or a rocket launcher, or a burst cannon. Because, that's totally her. But I needed her on Markerlight duty.

Then there is the Karmans from AT-43 battle report. My gaming buddy did a 40k codex for the Karmans, it's on the conservative side, and they still play scary strong in 40k rules. We left the codex up for anyone who wants to try them out.

and now i am totally going to make EVERY single new thing i get resemble something from an anime.... should i post my fuchikoma crisis suits here?.....
Okay, so I'm just gonna say...you have some good painting/modeling skills for sure.
However...for me, this (in terms of the chibi doll heads...your battlesuits are great...just too brightly-colored for my taste) ranks right up there with Tron Tau in terms of my dislike of what people do with Tau. I love my Tau, don't get me wrong, but there is just a line that I draw with my painting/modeling. I know I'll get flamed for saying it, but it's things like this and the MLP garbage that give our already nerdy hobby even more ridicule.
But, that's my honest personal opinion, and if you like what you're doing, don't let my opinion, or anybody else's for that matter, stop you. Like I said, you have skills, and I'm won't knock that fact, but this is so far from my cup of tea that I can't stand it.
My only other criticism is something gameplay related, but those heads are a pretty distinct disadvantage for you in terms of trying to gain cover.

No offense taken, it's part of the deal when I decided on how far to take this army. And yes, my local gaming community has some rather colorful armies, including a MLP, Rainbow Brite (I think that's what it is, or it could be Care Bears) and a GI Joe Cobra army.
Now, as far as gameplay, I've had no problems with them. And besides, I don't play in the tournaments, just for fun. So it's cool.
Thank you very much for sharing. I do like what you have done with the suits. I do not like the heads but that seems to be the love hate on this blog. You do a great job of using pastels! They look really good!
Hi everyone!
My army had to battle the forces of Chaos. A HUGE army led by Typhus, with no less than 100+ zombies, and 10 Nurgle Spawn, to name a few. Thanks goes to my good gaming buddy Morehammer for the battle report and awesome pictures!
Check it out! http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/483009.page#4878722
Sorry, while your painting is top notch, I cannot get behind this army at all. This is so far from what would fit in the 40k universe its not even funny. But like I said, great painting and modelling skills.
If you want a fluffy justification, I can think of 2 without even trying. 1: Fabius Bile passed through the area - the oversized heads are the result of his meddling, the Tau, being Tau, are not going to ostracize or kick out the victims. Furthermore, due to the effects of Biles attentions, they're significantly improved warriors, so quickly rose through the ranks.
2: It's a respected sub-species within the empire, thus given places within the military supporting the Fire Caste.
These are fantastic, loving the gunships, however I am convinced the Decals are transfers of some kind. Probably a clue in the whole model being glossy, as I doubt the transfers would work on a matt surface and so would have to be on a gloss surface
dear lord that is some impressive work. If you put that on the table in front of me i think my turns would take 4x+ as long cuz i would keep going "Wow, thats awesome" and pausing.
Whether you sculpted the anime heads or they were a doll you found either way its hilariously awesome. Excellent painting n whatnot too.
Hi everyone! Thanks for all the comments! I've got new units! and the OP has been updated!
So.. my Broadside 'Strike-Freedom', has been feeling pretty lonely, and I finally found the last pieces to make his new friends.
This project in itself took well over a year to source the parts to do this.
Introducing: The RX-75 Gunside Gang!
I have to say, it's so over the top in many ways it just gets really cool really fast. I really like daring inventive armies like this. Cool stuff, must look a real treat out there on the table!
The RX-75 Guntank comes from the original Gundam series, where the three main Gundams were the RX-78 "Gundam", the RX-77 "Guncannon", and the RX-75 "Guntank". Seeing your Tau version of the Guntank really brought a smile to my face. Ah, memories!
Most people would take the idea of Tau as anime and not take it very far, They might paint their models in Gundom Style but thats it.
You went far beyond what most people consider sane for an army, and ended up with a unique army. Kudos.
juraigamer wrote:I just want to see the face of your opponent when you beat them with this army, if they play GK or nercons. That is my only wish.
My army are the only ones in my group that have a winning record against the Necrons, GK and Space Wolf are a little harder, (granted the guy I play with this is a local tourney player, and he's good). But, the girls don't make it easy for him!
Squigsquasher wrote:Odd, the tracked units look like no Gundam I've ever seen.
Still I like them!
Oh, and you should do some Eldar allies for your Tau, with Evangelion Wraithlords and Sailor Scout Aspect Warriors. And a Zaku.
Squigs, you scare me. It's like you're reading my ideas in my head...... lol
darkcloud92 wrote:Gosh those are awesome guntanks! What size guntank models did you use? I couldn't find any that size so I just made 1 super unit
I still have the ability to make more, I'll shoot you a pm .

Thanks! Sane can be boring sometimes.
Casey, more stuff soon. Finishing up another unit!
Thanks for all the comments everyone! Keep 'em coming!
Squigs,
I do have a few from that anime list that are on my short list for projects.
Although, Cardcaptor Sakura, I may have to pass on..
Anvildude,
As much as I would love to, I'm stopping myself from including the Knight Sabers, just because it's one of my absolute fav's. And I don't think I would do it justice, right now.
However, there may be something else I might take from that show....
I am scared. The Tau always were the anime of 40k, and seeing them in their true form, and executed so well...
By Gork and Mork, may my Nordic Orks never fall to the beautiful abomination of anime Tau scum.
In all honesty though, these are beautiful! I really need to get back to some drawing if I want to match those guys! But the Vocaloid heads on the FW's makes my face go: (large pic) http://i.imgur.com/YVX49wq.jpg

Silverback,
Thank You!
RedComet,
I do have a Barracuda....
Sounds like one day you might just have a flying Gaw one of these days.
I hate Tau, but found myself being excited by every new picture you put up. I love how your army looks and hope to see more work soon. Oh and also, just seeing this made me feel like the world is a little brighter place.
We're Back! New Codex Time!! This gunship was in the pipe before the codex came out, along with one more that I'm finishing up right now.
I've already started on my Riptide
Introducing (finally...) Luka Megurine's Hammerhead Gunship "Night-Fever"
The OP has been updated. (You can see the other weapon options there).
I know.. Forever..... It's difficult to find images that can scale down to size well, and make it match with the paint. Then I forgot about it.. lol!
That said, you guys are gonna freak when you see the next one...
Thanks for the comments everyone! Keep 'em coming!
It is what I imagine Slaaneshi Tau would be like. They're so excessive that during deployment your opponent goes "WHAT? WHY? HOW?" after which his head explodes, which makes you the winner by the two most beautiful words in the English language:
DE FAULT
All Homer references aside, keep up the good work! It's nice to see someone with enough sense of humour to incorporate it into a very unique army.
For those who are opposed: at least they're not ultrasmurfs...
The big character pictures on the vehicles are plain showing off ;-)
The cyclone stealth suits are inspired (what would they look like if they changed??!!).
If the heads were true to scale I would have clapped but the super deformed bobble heads are a little... off. My opinion.
Well executed and certainly adds some fun to the dark universe. A large sweeping love story in 40k would cause as much confusion as to the zentraedi.
Thanks! I am contemplating making a cyclone and rider in bike form, but with all the new goodies for the army, I'm going to have to put that project on hold.
Also, don't forget the battle music, it helps. A lot.

cant really blame you this is a nice looking army. a bit strange when i first saw this topic but damn....its so weird and quirky it actually makes it badass
love the miku skyray XD but where are the green onions?
New Unit! The OP has been updated! Well, lots of units give Dakka. Now I'm going to start giving Danmaku, -with this crazy gunship.
Introducing, Youmu Konpaku, and her gunship "Ten-Desires".
This is using the Forgeworld optional turrent with Long-Barreled Burst Cannons. (Twin-Linked S6, Ap4, 6shots, 36" range) *edited for corrections.
More pictures of this thing in the OP!

If you are interested, send me a pm.
I weep for that riptide. I imagine it being piloted by Shinji ... *shudder* Poor, poor riptide Besides my almost infinite hate for that char, it looks fantastic a true joy for the Evangelion fans to look at.
Now, if you do a Eva00 or 02, NOW WE'D BE TALKING!

What you're missing here is that it'd be Shinji and Warhammer 40,000. Very different character.
(search "Shinji and Warhammer 40,000" fanfictions. You'll be happy about it.)
I just read threw the whole thread and saw your comment on using custom decals. Would you reveal your methods in this? Or is that going to remain your secret?

Thanks! I'd love to make Rei's and Asuka's Eva, but the color schemes are a bit monotone compared to Unit 01, and I don't think my wallet would like that either. lol

Check out some of my fundamentals:
"Gundam: 08th MS Team". Best one out of the entire series, IMO.
"Space Battleship Yamato" all 3 series, (1)'Quest for Iscandar'-watch this FIRST, (2)'Comet Empire', (3)'The Bolar Wars'
"Super Dimension Fortress Macross"
ah... Infinity..... NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOO..... And it's taking all of my self-control (what little remains) to NOT touch the Infinity line. The minis are so awesome that I know once I get some, I'm just going to buy the entire line.
Yep.... not gonna do that..... control, control,control..don'tlookatthatbuymoreTauinstead.......................

As for the Infinity, this is the absolute best time to paint your first one! Think about it this way, if you win a prize it'll make it much cheaper for you to start! You know you can't resist those pretty little anime miniatures! You could even use them to proxy Tau... I even converted two of them into Tau for my Necromunda blog.
Wow, I haven't been so interested in 40k in a long time. Brilliant. The Ten Desires made me laugh particularly hard, and I really like the themed units. Everything just works for me! This is the most otacool army I've ever seen, although I've only seen a handful.

I do have 2 more gunship projects on the short list for ideas, one may involve a certain sleepy gatekeeper, the other, a raven.
Sidstyler wrote: For the deployed fist on your riptide, did you use a Gundam part for that? And which scale is it, 1/100 or 1/144?
It's off of a Zaku (I don't remember which particular model) , 1/100 scale I believe. A gaming buddy gave me a whole box of Zakus and misc. parts for them during a trade day at our flgs.
The fingers were cut off and redone to fit Tau design, as well as making a wrist piece to make it less static looking..
New figures! First up,
Introducing, C.C. as the pizza-loving, tank ace 'Longstrike'.
She's magnetized to the turrent hatch, she can also stand on her own base. (I'll get a picture of that soon)
May I ask how you did the transfers (or free hands) on the tanks? I'm doing an Attack on Titan Tau/Eldar army soon and I wanted to do something similar!
Your riptide is one of a kind. Very nice work and posing done to make it look like its in the heat of battle....(or skipping around in victory. Lol). The decals on all the tanks is a pretty cool idea as well.
While this sort of thing is not something I would do personally, I respect your talent and commitment.
Not sure what the overall theme you are going for is though. A few Bing searches turned up half a dozen different shows your work seems to be based on. Or is this just a generally "Anime-themed" thing you've got going?
Either way, Good work on the painting and keep up the good work.
