Superb Owl???.......ah....took me a second

Catching back up as I’ve been lost for a bit.

Nice looking models for Hellboy. Frog demons are nasty demons .

Have fun in isolation, my wife and her teacher compatriots are doing crash courses in online teaching, and my kids will be learning online starting Monday.

A Superb Owl, but no farty owls?

You'd best get the reference. So had everybody else.

Very cool work on such a variety of things. Me gusta.

That board for Aeronautica is really nice too.

Yeah it's funny and going to be quite the challenge. I'm fairly techno savvy so I'm not too fussed in that regard. Utterly weird though.

Faulty towels? Yeah our Aeronautica board is coming along, hopefully the Mek yard is next. Here's a taster:

Viterbi wrote:Love the denim in Mean Machine, the rest of your output is still impressive, keep up the good work!

Thanks! I really like painting denim and it's been ages so that's much appreciated.

So I got a pile primed

Mostly Hellboy, but some Batman in there.

And me and the boys played the longest of the base game scenarios for Hellboy.

So, great scenario, bit crazy, definitely felt like a dungeon bash in a way that others hadn't. The board is an ever-shifting maze, which led to a couple of hairy moments as we got separated. Still very impressed by the sheer variety in the game.

All a bit on edge, but we'll settle ourselves down over the coming days... weeks... months...

As for mother's Day, well, self isolation has its perks. Judge Death Lives!

Seems fitting...

Got all my remaining Hellboy primed. And so, got the great stone guardian Enigos done

I also got the great White Wolf done

That's a 90mm base btw.

And the two side by side

So not a bad day.

I think isolation is going to help the challenge but I'm nearly at the halfway mark. Might run out at this rate

What's unbuilt? Not much, actually. BMG3, couple of DB teams, grot bombyers, MDF doors, and a few assorted nurgle bits. Astonishingly little

Hey ho

Btw there's lots of BMG in WIP, just nothing worth showing. Deathstroke's OTHER sword exploded

Ta

So with the country now in lockdown, little miss is now at home also. Educating a 4 year old is... interesting
But we'll manage.

To... celebrate the circumstances, finished off these guys:

Here's some better pics:

The middle guy is oldhammer lich that I converted about 30 years ago, and rescued from the depths of my bits box.

I love the big hat.

I feel the Khornezerker has seen the light

They have a familiar with them. He got an extra eye. Papa bless!

I do enjoy weathering metals.

So yeah, a fun group. And whilst I had the thinned oxide out, I got the specters done for Hellboy:

Along with Henry Hood, the spectral hero

I also finally got round to sorting my broken Batgirl:

Progress, it would seem!

More DC on the go, Deathstroke's OTHER sword expoloded so that's getting repaired, Joker's nearly there, Man-bat and Gordon on the way too.

Managed to get another game of Hellboy with the boys, we played through the final, Hard scenario from the base game. Just about survived! As for what comes next, we'll see. We've decided we need a wee break from HB so we don't get bored of it. I should probably try to get the Batman stuff built. sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

She's leaning. Like so many Batgirls, she'd snapped through the ankles, so I decided to give her some support.

Crazy highlights for animated.

She's done, I reckon

Talking of bats

And... Joke's on you!

Didn't add a smilex fish. Hmmm.

Plus, finished off Deathstroke

Happy with the leap, and having his foot off the ground.

Wife's off today, though being medical she may get called in. Doubt I'll get much P&M done though as she'll likely have busy work for me

Also, figured out a way to make my infernal captain wings

It's the old tomato paste tube cloak trick!

More building has gone on - display versions of Joker, Harley and Deadshot - and just about finished prepping all my Infernal team. Got the kids sorting out their AoS stuff too (in between schoolwork, bike ride and building a complex cushion obstacle course). So more to come, y'all

I don't know about that but it helps my mental state. Remember I do bits and bobs and spots of colour in passing, that I often don't show. Today's update is an illustration of just that.

Friday was a good day, considering we're now in lockdown. Wife and 2 of kids have signs, so we're all stuck in for at least a week. there will be blood...

Didn't actually paint much; with wife looking after little miss, got a lot of work done instead. But I DID get the Gotham cops and goons built, along with a dozen MDF dungeons doors for hellboy. Most I managed to paint from start to finish was a bookshelf:

Nice bit of extra Hellboy scatter

I finished off half a dozen militia (well 5 militia and Arkham Knight) I've been working on in dribs and drabs also.

I have painted these before in Deathstroke's Mirakuru colours from S2 arrow but sold them off. However, a bundle came up for trade and I thought, why not?

A couple have been headswapped with pig iron heads for the looks of the thing. I rather like it. Also great for generic present day gaming.

Better view of the character models

Militia are now "Soldiers of Fortune" along with Bane, so here they are with the man himself.

The lot had some other bits too, 3 more militia, plus scarecrow who is missing an arm but I'm sure I can come up with something. More importantly it had BTAS Canary and Harley, leaving only Green Arrow for me to complete that set also a regular black Canary and arsenal, which finish off my DCUMG Collection, and the other (non-promo) Arkham Knight, who I'm going to convert to be the comic Arkham Knight (Astrid Arkham, not Jason Todd) - comes with a pistol, needs a sword as well.

Also, started blocking in the reds properly on my Infernal team:

This the kind of WIP I wouldn't normally show, see?

And way more importantly, was able to have an epic game of Ultimate Dreadball with my boys:

Full of brilliant moments, like my eldest using one of the best MVPs in the game to try to take down my lowly Jack and getting slammed back into next week (and the rest of his team)

In the end the wee fella won, but only because his big brother showed him explicitly a strategem to steal a point out of turn. Genuinely massively proud of the level of sportsmanship the older one displayed, so he's earned himself a prize of a full set of doubles of his team (meaning he can run every possible permutation of them). Very well-deserved. More generally, he's tactically getting much stronger, which bodes well also.

I decided to order myself some supplies also. New brushes - because I'm tearing through them - and some odds and ends from a wee retailer, as it's more difficult than ever just now for them. So an extra set of Hellboy dice at half price, another Oop Dreadball promo, the pack of Dreadball MVPs I don't own, plus Anderson, Cadet and league of fatties for Judge Dredd. It's not a huge amount, but covers a lot of gaps.

Hey ho and on we go,
Graven

A little thing it is, but still, I like the bookcase.

Militia look good. Interested to see what you do with the Arkham Knight, although not overly familiar with either iteration.

Good to see the little gravens progressing in their game play, feel there might be a lot of opportunities for gaming in the near future.

Corrupting youth is an important role.

They'll damn well enjoy it whether they like it or not! And thanks!

Saturday was quite quiet. Wife and I both feeling pretty grotty. Didn't really get much done, mostly priming. Did get the dungeon doors sorted.

By token logic, 12 doors is 6 things painted.

Started Arsenal

Twang.

And Arkham Knight comic version

I lost the arm. So built a new one. Needed a massive sword anyway.

And on the subject of lost arms

New arm from a joker goon I *think*, new hand from Joker (hat cut away to make a cannister), leading to...

We also had a couple of games. Finally convinced the wife to play a game of Pandemic Contagion - lots of fun, as she grudgingly admitted, even if she was slightly baffled.

And a hotdog run! First game of Dredd with the kids:
The judge failed to snag the perps. Sounds like time for a rematch.

As for head and stress and life...
Spoiler:

We're coughing and spluttering, which is not much fun. More generally, I'm not as calm as I'd hoped. I thought that my head might've cleared a bit. But I'm still pretty brittle. That being said, it's inevitable when all cooped up together. And by the same token, middle kid and I are definitely getting along better.

I'm in a building mode atm, mostly till the superglue runs out
On we go

Hopefully grottiness passes quickly. Stress levels are inevitably going to build when all cooped up, hope it doesn't get too bad. I seem to have picked the right time to regain interest in the hobby, gives me something else to keep me occupied rather than just my thoughts.

Stay safe.

Thanks buddy. Really happy with the scarecrow save. Yeah, it's great to see so many people channeling their energies positvively into the hobby.

Yesterday was very strange, I hardly painted anything, just Arsenal's cap and the bloodstains on the dungeon doors. Back "to work" today - with exam boards imploding, there's a *lot* to do, and when you're stuck in the house with 3 quarrelsome kids and a sick wife, it has its challenges luckily we have a garden, and it's a least been sunny today.

Anyway, what we did do yesterday was play some more Dredd:

It's a very interesting game - the action chip mechanic means a single turn is quite long (essentially, the more experienced characters have a chance to keep on acting), but games are rarely that long in themselves. We played the 2nd and 3rd intro game in a couple of hours, and my older son declared that this his new favourite miniature game (ahead of Aeronautica), although still behind Hellboy (which he counts as a board game). It's interesting hearing a 12 yo take on it: he says that he feels invested in it from reading the comics and it playing like an issue of 2000AD. I agree, but it's interesting that this means it trumps not only his burgeoning interest in AoS but his Bat-fandom completely.

So I'm still painting a lot of red. The infernals are being done in stages, and their skin tones are nearly blocked in, as are my next Hellboy. But more importantly, Arsenal is done!

I have a lot of stuff on the shelf still

But not to be deterred I built all my remaining DC stuff other than bombshell Harley AND finished Gordon

I do like these display figs. I wasn't at all sure at first, but they've really grown on me.

Only two figs done today. Tsk.

Cheers! Really enjoyed doing it

To keep the kids occupied, my folks sent them a chess set and played via Skype. The wonders of technology, eh?!

Scored myself a couple of Hellboy KS exclusives for a steal off eBay (£4 each), the mini version of Trevor Bruttenholm (normally just a token) and a Pancakes Hellboy - he's pretty rubbish, but PANCAKES! and, he's never going to be available commercially, so can't complain.

Monday also saw some repair work on scenery, particularly on one of my modular MDF boards (the lift section): it had warped in the garage so it's now between clamps. I've had to glue the removable lift into place, which seems to be stretching it back out; hopefully I won't have to glue the removable floor tiles in, but if needs must I will. Suggestions on storage?

The boys had a long and very tense game of Dreadball Tuesday, which I... Refereed Yndij Tree Sharks Vs Kalyshi Power Tough Girls, the game swung both ways with an early Yndij lead being taken away by the cheeky minxes when they stole the ball on a well timed run interference.

On rush 13, the Yndij made a bold set of plays right up the field to get the score to 0, but the Kalyshi managed to snatch a last 2 points on the last action of the game. Good stuff for a lockdown afternoon!

I meanwhile built grot Bommas, lovely kit. It's interesting to see how far gw has come even in a couple of years. I also got the reds finished on the demon team and enraged Hellboy. Hopefully they'll be my April fools

Well now,
has truly blessed our house, I've been a couple of days behind the wife (she's been off since Friday) but this afternoon it hit me full tilt. Not fun, and the phrase "unsatisfying cough" has never taken on such meaning.

To distract myself, I finished off my Enraged Hellboy

Lovely fig, terrible balance, so he has a couple of weights in the base.

Another shot of the jacket

Wanted this version to look proper battle scarred.

I also threw together a very fast test scheme for the MANY undead I have to do:

Started on an April Fool

Debating mega OSL on this one.

and decided to experiment with my Todd McFarlane Batman:

I've pre-highlighted the whole model, and am going to go from here in layers of ink.

Bommers are primed Other than that, I have 2 unbuilt dreadball teams, Dredd vs Death, Bombshell Harley and odds and ends of nurgle (a PBC kitbash), but really that's me mostly built. Want to get as much stuff built and primed before (a) run out of glue and primer and (b) start brewing in the garage. In the meantime, I had a case of beer delivered today from Brewdog, so that should at least keep me medicated
Later

Hope that Papa's blessing passes soon.

Thanks on all fronts!

Paradigm wrote:That Batsignal looks great! That Gordon on the base really sets it off! In all seriousness, excellent stuff, both he and Arsenal look awesome.

Looking forward to seeing your experiments with Bats and Joker, I can definitely see these sorts of display minis fitting a more stylised/arty approach. Hope you feel better soon.

Yeah I'm a bit torn on the display figs but they're really growing on me.

Here's a quick sneak peek for you of Dredd Vs Death:

Needs a bit of gap filling, not much though. Great sculpt, just... accessorised the base

Also, here's the state of the daemonic dreadball team

And the undead horde demanding my attention:

So, feel like I've been punched hard in the chest today. Luckily, supplies arrived to perk me up:

Reinforcements for me and the kids

Final MVPs I'm missing

Pancakes and Poppa!

Did get the horde done, however:

Pic doesn't really show that the skin tone is Blue Horror. It's actually a really nice contrast to the pale greys and greens (as my eldest son said, "I like how mossy they look, like they've climbed out of a grave"... weird kid ), and the pale orange of the swords and chainmail. It's also a nod to the pale blue that Mignola uses sometimes for skeletons.

Speaking of blue

Lots of wet blending of vj model air blue

Fun and games

Need to decide where to go next with the Infernals. They've now got blue loin cloths but not sure what to do about armour plates.
Hey ho

So today was... interesting. Feeling ropey, the cough is brutal. Got the kids to finish off all the schoolwork due. Baked and cooked and played board games and all the good stuff... Then totally lost it when the eldest managed to spill nikhail all over himself.
Ah well. I guess an explosion was inevitable at some point. Just need to make amends and be more chill.
Anyway, we managed to paint some stuff also.

The Infernal Devices

https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/scones_1285

The recipe is for the sweet vetsion, we do sweet - sometimes with fruit in - and savoury - sometimes with cheese in. Mmm, cheese scones...hungry now.

Wow! One of those weird words that relates to other words that all mean different things on both sides of the pond...

Over here, scones are hard, dry affairs that are usually eaten (and dipped in) coffee. Not biscotti... but much harder than a normal biscuit (scone). Often cut in wedge-shapes. sorry for the huge pic.

Biscuits on the other hand, are soft, warm and buttery. Some are flakey and have distinct internal layers... some are a bit dryer and more crumbly... but still so good! Tonight I made "drop biscuits". Named that way as you push the batter off a spoon onto the cooking sheet. They are more crumbly but form wonderfully whimsical shapes and color variances on their surface!

Biscuits are scones. Scones are biscotti. Cookies are biscuits.

Simple, right?

Also, sounds to me like you've been making drop scones there!

Personally, I'm a huge fan of cheese scones, especially if you make a giant one and cut it into slabs. Omnomnomnomnom...

Here's what I'm working on this weekend btw:

This is what I mean by working on a couple of colours on a couple of figs at a time. I'm laying down the pink and the purple on the Bommers, which means I'm starting Joker, and there's a pair of pink visors on a dreadball model now (for instance).

Yeah, they are indeed. You could absolutely remove the top canopy and mount some big dakka on the nose instead. They do come with tiny, tiny grot bombs with tiny grot pilots (and there are tiny grot gunners in the turrets also). They're VERY good in IA, the big counterbalance to the imperials usual ranged advantage (the bombs are untargetteable) - really interested to see how they fair against Tau.

Why thanks kindly!

It has occurred to me, casually. that Dredd would be much easier on Hex bases: there is a front focused fire arc and a distinct front/back. It also means that I can use all my Dreadball fans as civilians it does mean using ALL the dB bases in the world not that I have shortage. I might blutac and see. I have two sets of unused blue and yellow bases from Dreadball Xtreme and that tallies with the colours of the two sides in Dredd anyway.

Had a great game of HB with the boys, playing a scenario from the Darkness Calls expansion - we were locked in a church.

It was ace, all used different characters to normal, and just managed to survive (barely).

The ghost hero, Henry Hood, was fantastic, and the eldest loved playing it (he never plays a combat agent usually); I usually play big Red so went with Liz, who apocalyptically immolated to save the day, whilst my younger son played enraged Hellboy (usually takes Abe).

As a result, started on (and finished) the rest of the undead for Hellboy:

Never have I been more grateful for writing down a paint recipe before.

The witches three. Not the wife and her sisters. Nope. Not that one coincidentally shared the wife's name

I also finished up a car for Gaslands, Lt Smash.

If you get that reference - join the navy!

Also spent a pleasant time painting today with the eldest: whilst I was doing my undead, he was doing his Nighthaunts in the remaining nikhail/thinner (1:3). Thanks to the wisdom of dakka we now have 3 matched 400 PT forces. His next task is to learn the rules and teach us >

Meanwhile, Pinky and Purpley are done.

With bombs

And from the tail

Barring some spot highlights, and a little bit of pipework, pretty much done. Not finished for the score till the bases are done, of course.

Lots primed. Bits started: Judge Anderson, Cadet Judge, Black Canary, Gotham Cops. Oh, and the Grot Bombs.

So, more to follow...

Or should that be Bommaz?

And of course, Da Bommz!

Reckon they are like tokens, 2 count as 1 painted.

Had a great game of Dredd today with the eldest

Another day in the Big Meg: took my Cadet out, we decided to do 2 mirrored teams of Senior, Street and Regular judges.

A simple training sim in a wrecked sector turned out to be a setup by his bent, umpty-bagging Street Judge.

It was a toughie, and there's going to be fines for some unsafe buildings - no wonder the foreman went futsie!

But ultimately my senior finally managed to bag the rotten judge and send him down for an extra 15 years.

A great game, the Big Meg cards turned into a really enjoyable narrative. The fantastic MDF is made by Uncertain Scenery, incidentally.

So, a great game; the boy is getting keen to beat me. I'll wager he'll win the next game we play

Nothing else significant to report. Spots of colour here and there. However the boy has managed to convince me to order him a back issue of mortal realms. Bless him, he's hooked.

The final 2 figures for Hellboy. Koeschi the Deathless, done in greyscale preshade and washes.

Fantastic fig, great character.

One of my slight gripes about HB is I'd love some sort of Legacy rule, whereby you gain experience, knowledge or allies based on previous investigations. Gaining Koeschi as a backup agent once you've defeated him would make enormous sense.

As I mentioned, I've started on my Joker gang. I decided that I needed an idea for the gang as a whole. So the Blue Jays are cop killers through and through, taking a cop's uniform as initiation and wearing parts of it.

Gotham is a grubby place after all. The tie-die t-shirts were just me playing around, I was thinking in terms of how could a gang easily adapt its colours.
Of course, they need cops to take down.

Bullock is further along than the rest. Lovely figs though.

Well they are a lovely pair many thanks. It's a great, if weird feeling to have so much painted and so little left to do lol. Maybe I need another project

Many thanks on both counts
Slinky wrote:Inspired stuff those tie-dye t-shirts, magical

Well I'll be honest I didn't expect such a great reaction from everyone, but I'm certainly delighted!

So here's the process, over a dark grey prime I use Vallejo Game Colour pink, Livery green and model colour purple. It's a really simple method, and derived from the way I used to do graffiti on buildings. The 3 main colours are blocked in with a gap between each of them; it doesn't matter what colours you do but the middle colour needs to be the most opaque, so you may need to add a bit of thinner medium to the other 2. Then start to fill the lower gap with bottom colour, and whilst still wet you add the middle colour in vertical strokes "pushing" into the bottom colour; then do the reverse for the other colours. It's the same push-pull method for wet blending cloth that I use (blame Gitsplitta ); hope that makes sense!

Played a bit of Hellboy in Mexico with the kids today

Luchadors vs hungry vampires! What's not to love? barrels of crazy fun.

Talking of crazy fun, spent a bit of time kitbashing AoS with my eldest. We found enough bits, including some 80s skeletal spears, to make a couple of chainrasps, which means he can now run 30 of the spooky buggers he's LOVING AoS and the fact he is churning out a sizeable painted force in next to no time. I got him a GW monster case as an Easter reward for his hard hobby work and all the help he does around the house, so he's happy as pie. We also sorted out blightking oddments leftover from 40k kitbashes, and bulking out with milliput for now.

So in the middle is the most complete one that I have. The other two are salvaged from 40k parts.

The two at the sides are khorne berserkers... Maybe? that have had a bit of Nurgley love. In the middle is a WIP rotbringer sorcerer, just shaping out just now. Progress of sorts.
More to follow, back on the DC wagon I imagine,

Late to the catch up, love the tie-dye shirts. Jokers are always interesting lot.

All that Hellboy .

Blightkings are an awesome force, especially with the 2019 generals handbook explosive hits (rolls of a natural 6 becoming d6 hits) really help the infection spread. The Blightkings Pusgoyles come two to a set with four possible riders, so you wind up with two extra full upper torsos from each set. This might get me to start sculpting, but most likely I’ll just find some sort of slug body to mount them on.

Cheers. I really know nothing about AoS but my son is very smitten. Do everyones' hits now explode?! There's more work been done on the Blightkings, bit of part juggling, and a revised sorcerer.

Turns out I have a Lord of Plagues. Who knew?!

Not sure what to do with this guy. And yes, now on 40mm bases. Fun times with circle cutter.

It's been good to do some modelling rather than painting. My hand is bothering me a bit so better not having a brush in it for a couple of days.

Hellboy wrestling was good fun. Think we're going to invest in the remaining expansions, which means getting a KS copy from the mantic warehouse clearance. Shucks glorious. Rather delightfully the wife had agreed that it's a decent investment, given the amount of time we spend playing the game and it keeps us all sane

Might return the joker gang tomorrow but i suspect the only thing I'll be painting is Kid B's bedroom

Have taken a bit of a break from painting to rest my hand a bit over the last few days. Lots of yard work, as you colonials would call it, instead.

Randomly bumped into an old chum, Cavzilla19, today at the supermarket (well, at a safe distance!) and had a great life/nerd chat. His wife's 7 months pregnant, can't even imagine the stress. He nagged me about not painting BMG; so, slowly easing back in.

Harvey Bullock. Absolutely glorious sculpt, hope I've done it some sort of justice.

Need to do some more GS work on the Blightkings, and various other projects on the go as always. However, decided that some sort of isolation treat was in order, and managed to bag a Hellboy agent pledge at first direct from mantic (they found one in the warehouse, and very obligingly kept it aside for me). Gives me all the other expansions that should've released this month (BPRD Archives - create your own scenarios expansion - Hecate, Baba yaga), for the price they would've cost at retail, plus Conqueror Worm expansion, upgraded tokens and all the Ks exclusives, effectively for zero. Oh, and the game itself, which I'll use for a giveaway. Worth it.

So till then,
Graven

Something different today. I did get on with the building of stuff, but I also started on a wee random project:

A section of road board for Dredd, BMG, or whatever, really. Quick job on some waste chip board. Tidy up, some barriers, and an idea for a rolling roadway. I have more of these boards, but they're all a bit warped. Tempted to stick them under a pile of bricks and see if that helps.

And here's the nurgle chaps, meanwhile:

Finally ready to prime, methinks.
However mini painting going on hold, as it's time to start on the smallish boy's bedroom.

Thanks mate. Yeah, reminds me of painting scenery for shows, great big theatre flats... Ah well. Good spot on the khorne stuff. There's a raptor in the mix too. It's just what was lying about. I have to try to make another lord so that'll be interesting. No spare terminator legs (it's always legs isn't it??) so may have to desecrate another primaris, though they're not really chunky enough and often moulded in odd ways.

Why thanks - and welcome!

Kid's room done, so got the cops finished off.

Honestly, not that happy with them, but they're done and table ready. Hand is an achey mess right now, so not that surprised. Definitely only doing minimal painting, of any variety, tomorrow. Maybe start laying down crap on nurgle guys.

Running out of things to build. 2 teams, still - mecha, all fiddly and faffy, not in the mood. A PBC to customise in some way, theoretically, plague flies and 2 Daemon Princes (I don't know if there's any point in making 2 Daemon Princes, or anything about loadouts in AoS, but still).

Till then

Good luck with the maggoty efforts. Liking what I've seen so far. Yeah, there's a bit of takeover over my world, but it's more juggling 3 kids whilst trying to teach that's the challenge.

Viterbi wrote:That is a scenic base, took me some time to see all the details. Already looking very nice!

It's very busy. But I'm getting there.

Today's productivity, along with being back to school (ish).

Arkham Knight, comic version. Ooh, dark and brooding.

Very happy with her (you're not supposed to realise it's a her).

Made a witches' cauldron marker for Hellboy.

Painted a random familiar / helpful Skeleton marker.

Nice to paint a totally random fig for the sake of just because. I found a zombie mechanic, no idea from what, might do him soon.

Working our way through the final Hellboy in Mexico scenario.

Glorious Chair Shot moment. I mean we're almost certainly doomed (it is not going well, and we paused before the final confrontation) but it's mostly hilarious. We've only got 2 scenarios left to play (we're up to HARD) BUT hopefully, Agent pledge with other expansions and ks goodies arrives tomorrow.

Got some good supplies today too: MDF stairs and ladders from Uncertain Scenery and some 28 Napoleonic / fantasy village houses from Tabletop Standard as an isolation challenge. I mean I don't have any PVA glue but still managed to track down a cheap copy of Mortal Realms 11 online (with the sigmarite mausoleum) so ordered that and Lady Olynder for the boy as he's on top form helping us out with his siblings.

Also working some other bits - a few cars for Gaslands, again on a whim - Deadshot and Harley from BTG, early work on the rust for the blightkings, that sort of thing.

@ Theo very wise
Another day, some more oddments. Took a notion to make a pursuit special.

I think it's a mod every Gaslands player has to do at some point.

Added to the Pimpin Mishkin

Pimpmobile!

And Bubble Gun Pop!

Man, someone dinged me!

That explains it.

And, finally, finished Joker from Back to Gotham

Big fig.

Another view

Plenty of smoke.

Rear of the curtains

Glad the model is done, felt like a slog. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with it, just couldn't see the other side.

Got my Hellboy box today. Whole lot more good, or rather bad, stuff.

More to come. Bits done on another pursuit special, Joker's old sidekick Gaggy, some more on Anderson and Cadet Judge, blightking corroded metals, other pieces here and there. Lmk if there's anything you want to see,

Well, I've not painted any Gaslands in ages, let alone built anything, but it's good to have stuff to play about with. Periodically my daughter asks me to paint her a pink car, however.

Dr H wrote:Nice work on all the things.

Cheers old son. Just need to get the other one done.

Yesterday was a quiet day, in nerd ways at least. Wife off, so I powered into work stuff. Not a lick of paint on a fig (for the first time this year), just rebasing oldhammer plaguebearers (dull, dull, dull) and sorting through the Hellboy KS. It's a whole bunch o' stuff; however a mate is buying the duplicate core game stuff off me so I'm going to end up paying around £40 for the lot in the long run. Sweet!

Started teaching the boys Batman 3rd today, playing through the intro game rules.

First and foremost it's VERY fast. BMG is notoriously slow; now, admittedly, it's very stripped down but a single read of the rules and we never needed to double-check anything.

We'll see how the subsequent scenarios play out. For the next one we need... Deadshot!

Why would an assassin wear a red suit? Because by the time you've asked yourself that question, he's put a bullet through your skull.

Got some leg work done. Kitbashing a Lord of Blights while the boy built Lady Olynder, that sort of thing. The oldhammer plaguebearers got their new bases painted, and I started on the ones for the blightkings at the same time. Consistency, y'all. Primed a bunch of Hellboy, debating whether to prime the Nazis black, dark brown or light grey. No jokes about white prime

Whilst pottering, I made a piece of Dredd(ish) terrain from a 40mm high plastic can that has been lying about my desk for ages.

I'm not sure if this is what Slurms Mackenzie gave his life for but still.

Sometimes, you just need generically useful terrain.

Hey ho and on we go

Wondering whether the hammer arm shoulder needs bulking up. But, pretty happy with it.

Had a great big game of Aeronautica with the boy, using all our stuff (which sounds more impressive than it is),150 points each side.

Loved that I got to land my Boyz, though sadly da hoo-mons blowed up da landed Bommas.

Finished off my big bunker for the occasion

I got started on a whole bunch of new Hellboy critters too

Aiming to break the 100 mark this month.

He is! well spotted He has a little rusty skull pad. I'll leave it at that. The bunker was purely aesthetic for the fun of the thing. I plan on making a bit of extra terrain for a Mek Yard, which can double as a turrets for Gaslands.

Cheers mucker! Well for sake of completeness, here's the before pics:

What else have I been up to?
Gaggy the clown, the Joker's original sidekick.

Don't know what's worse: doing the Harlequin pattern or taking pictures!

[/url]
We *may* have... Acquired a couple of Playmobil roses from his little sister...

I meantime have been working on a whole lot o' Hellboy, working through it expansions set at a time. So, BPRD Archives first -
Wolf Pack

Werewolf

There wolf! Wolves left unmolested can turn into werewolves. Bad news.

Sinister Birds are actually worse...

Harpies are VERY BAD NEWS

Nananananananananananana Bat Swarm!

That just leaves the Witch Coven and BPRD Archives will be done

I'm going to hold off on tackling on Conqueror Worm (all the Nazis) but couldn't resist starting Lobster Johnson and his mini bust

Decided to try to raise my lens game. And whilst technically not part of the expansion (he's a stretch goal), couldn't resist the big fella:

Kriegaffe. What a model, absolute belter.

Meanwhile, I am going to get on with the upgraded tokens. I think working expansion at a time is a good plan so token set it next on the list. And because it's the ks version I don't need to paint the infernos (flickering transparent orange) - score! I freely admit that the only reason I hadn't previously bought the token set was because the Ks ones are so much prettier happy chappy

Just noticed I'm at 124 this month so far, and have broken the 300 fig mark for the year. So new goal is to hit 365 - rather 366 - before the end of Lockdown, or at least the end of May

Good work all over on the Lord of Blights - lots of bits brought together nicely. The little shoulder pad is just the sort of thing I was thinking!

Nice work on the diamond pattern, base works a treat too.

God job on strengthening the briar lady. Those roses work well on a hero figure!

Wolves and birds and bats, oh my! All looking good.

Lobster looks nice, and good job on the bust

Kriegaffe looks like a fun model indeed.

I thought you might like that much gs work

More Hellboy. Shock.

"Statue" of Hecate:

Many layers of many metals. #spoileralert #notastatue
And the summoned version of her.

Wasn't initially convinced by doing white eyes but really glad I did.

And her coven of crones

Maybe we just need to gather some information...

First set of Tokens done. Though I usually count tokens as 2 for 1 fig, these were tiny and quick; they're good for 1 painted for the count. Meanwhile...

Evil Incarnate.

On we go

Hecate (both versions) are stunning.

The coven are fantastic as well

Loving that Big Gorilla (I’m thinking of doing a gorilla warband in Frostgrave) can you give me a size for him? Also what set is he in? Because if I move forward with the plan he will be mine.

Lobster Johnson....man I really should go back and read Hellboy comics, I enjoyed the first dozen or so and the names and ideas are just wacky enough for me.

Just the one fig proper for today.

Baba Yaga herself

She's a nasty old witch, she is.
Did get the first couple of clue tokens done:

Today was mostly about rearranging the games cupboard, so didn't get much else done between that and work and kids
Still, tonight I'm treating myself to Rhubarb gin and Hellboy Omnibus Vol.1 - that's nearly 400 pages of unholy goodness

Baba Yaga looks fun.

I’ve seen the Karmans, but since miniaturemarket dumped the figs I’m not going to go searching for them.

The Dust Tactics ones look almost identical to the Kreiggaffe, so it fits.

Yeah, I debated painting her missing an eye but happy with what I settled on. To be fair, a decapitated wife would be fairly Hellboy also. Edinburgh Gin Rhubarb & Ginger with Tonic, actually.

Just don't look too hard at her scary old lady boobs. I've looked at the Tactics ones too, actually, as it's possible to run into more than one Kreigaffe, There's a couple very cheap on eBay in the US, I notice...

Lol I felt the same way. Rereading a big chunk last night for the first time in 20+ years was glorious.

And put me in the mood to do this:

More work on sallow skin tones, and the busts really force me to raise me game there also.

Plus a little progress on some Dredd stuff:

I particularly like the Fattie's GS shoulder pads. It's the little details lol.

Tomorrow hopefully going to get some more scenic bits finished off for Hellboy (what else? ) But also starting on scatter terrain for both pseudo modern and medieval.

Cya then

Indeed it is Psi Div's finest! No idea why but it's awfully cute for The Hotdog Run the busts are a massive challenge. I'm now on to the main characters and the fact that I'm doing them at a remove is a nightmare

Dr H wrote:Nice work.
Liking the Hecates

Yeah, we liked her less when we ran into her tonight This was our first attempt using the random case file builder and, frankly, it was fantastic. We randomly generated a short, medium difficulty scenario (well, you choose length and challenge, but there's still mountains of elements in those), and ended up crashing our way through a ruined stately home running into scores of harpies, sinister birds, floating heads and a giant before we ran into a portal spewing more birds and the snake queen herself.

Big Red went down but not before he lobbed an old concussion grenade that had been lying in his pockets from a case 6 years ago; luckily, Abe and Johann managed to clear up the mess and we all limped out to fight another day.

Got a few more bits done. Firstly, the extra frogs from the KS

Joy. More frogs, and more matching old colour schemes frog swarms, as tokens, count half.

Got the majority of the counter set done also.

The 3 tiny ones count for 1 and a half by my reckoning, as they were actually incredibly fiddly.

Just a wee table to go. Scenic elements such as these only count as half, so when I do that it can round up with the tiny clues

And, quite randomly, a bridge rescued from clearing out old kids' toys and duly repurposed.

I suspect this will mostly be used for Dredd.

Shame pile contains 2 different Harley Quinns, 3 Bane militia, some Dreadball fans and cheerleaders, Anderson, Cadet & Fatties for Dredd, Dumbledore and the Blightkings. Whittling it down. Gradually An interesting couple of challenges (not to stress myself out, just if I can, but not pressuring myself): can I beat 365 before lockdown ends? (Probably) Can I clear my shelf of shame before my birthday on June 24th (probably not). Bear in mind this doesn't include what's unbuilt (which actually isn't much, tbh) Place your bets please!

Pretty brittle today, me AND the kids. Lockdown is wearing away at us all. We'll bounce back though, no doubt.

Still, 15 more takes us to 152 for April (new record! ) and 337 so far for 2020 - onwards to May!

Good to see the random generator produces fun scenarios.

Frogs don't have to match exactly, come in different shades Hope you picked out all the eyes and mouths on those swarms

Interesting selection of counters.

Thanks on all fronts. Yeah frog variation isn't massively important. However, matching Liz and the others is much more stressful!

So spent the time on making Liz look right:

I'll be honest, I've never really understood the appeal of busts, but I'm starting to.

Some clever clogs put up an agent card for Ash in the Hellboy group. So, of course...

Boom stick!

And played around with some old gw yellow shades that I found at the back of a shelf.

A nice start to May. Meanwhile, on my desk (as opposed to the shelf of shame) are the backup agents and the character busts. The shelf is getting taken over by the boy's Nighthaunts. Bloody kids

I don't really get busts myself either. But these are used as trackers in game for target priority so are mechanically useful. And it's forcing me to raise my game, in this case really thinking about flesh tones. Glad you like my Groovy Boom stick, baby! Yeah, lamentor yellow and Cassandra glaze.

Had an ace game of Hellboy. It got very intense and infernal.

Interestingly, boys are starting to find the game a little bit too easy. Time to add in the expert mode cards to the deck of doom

Not much actual painting done this weekend. Very bruised hand from building a new bed for little miss. Instead, plenty of cooking and baking yesterday. Nice weather today has involved long walk, alcohol and setting fire to dead animals... plus my remaining grey primer getting used up.

Rest of my dreadball characters primed

Couple of old school metals in there and everything.

And, bits and bots

This is a large team of metabots. Transformers essentially. Possibly the worst team in the game, certainly most irritating models. I've primed them separately to make sure to get in all the nooks and crannies, as I'm just using washes on these guys (blue and red )

And the last of it used up on my modular roads for Dredd

So two 12x18 road boards, 2 18" roads, 2 12" roads, 6 10" barriers, 8 4" barriers, all made from scrap wood. I *think* this will work lol. I'm considering having either regular and ruined sides or ramps and sliproads, thoughts?

There appears to be a Nurgle ghost in those dreadball figs....

Tough call on roadsides - regular and ruined sides are good for general use, ramps and sliproads are good for world-building (especially silly in the Big Meg), and offer potential for expansion later. Hmm, writing that convinced me on ramps and sliproads

Good work.

I'm always left feeling that something's missing with a bust (the rest of the person for a start), but I appreciate the impracticality of a full sized, large scale, model.

Depends on your planned use of the roads, and how well you want each piece to match up with the others.
Personally, I'd lean towards making them look as much a part of the landscape as possible, but that is less practical for gaming.

As I say, busts do nothing for me per se but they're a great game upgrade component and are forcing my to raise my game. And I'm leaning more gameplay than aesthetic tbh as one of the 6 core dredd scenarios is Mopad Madness - ie on a megway.

I too appreciate a nice bust

So continuing with the Hellboy stuff, did the backup agents today

Key thing being keeping them uniform.

Love Scott's rocket pack. We don't play with bprd backup agents that often but when we do it tends to be Bud (second from left) as he is a good shot and can boost defend, really handy natural partner to Abe.

Other than that, I went through the tedium of building allllllll the Metabots today. Horrid, but now done, and helped the eldest work on Nighthaunts.

What's on my desk/mind right now? Well, I'd like to get my fatties done for Dredd I think. That *might* be tomorrow

Tuesday was not good, we lost my grandmother, so things went a bit up in the air. It wasn't unexpected - we'd been waiting since Friday, really - but still sad and strange. Mostly it's tough on my dad, and not being able to be there for him.

Anyway, on to nerdier matters.
Dug out my oldhammer Daemon Prince, and began reassembly

New head, and wings to follow.

Mostly, however, it's been about improvisation. The Modular Megway is just about "built"

And against a Dredd mat

That should do it
Turns out the ever-brilliant kid_kyoto has uploaded the 80s Dredd game cardstock vehicles to the dakka gallery, so my Megways can get proper traffic

And some quasi-medieval buildings

These are for decoupage or something? who knows. However, they had potential, and the offcuts made for decent thatching. Chimeys from coffee stirrers. Plus, handily, they work for extra storage:

Painted some scatter for them

Well, the table is actually for Hellboy, but still. It all counts! Specifically, table and large crate for 1, each of 3 others for another 1.

And painted this slimy creep

Salaran Vesh. He just wants a cuddle! and to eat you...

Next up - at least in theory - Blightkings and the League of Fatties, remaining busts and Ragna Rok Rasputin.
Cheers

Cyrano would be appalled Vesh is great, he gets overexcited and accidentally eats the opposition making him slow, strong and uninterested in the ball, but very good at hitting people. In the game, mechanically, he changes position, comedy gold.

Viterbi wrote:That demon prince is something else. You could paint it like the ant-eater from the pink panther cartoons

He'll need a bright red nurgling to eat too

Theophony wrote:

It is actually, I really like it. I'd probably use the Prussian blue I use for cloth for the blightkings

We've had some lovely weather, and Wednesday is the wife's day off (NHS, so still working), so it was mostly splashing about with the kids, having a beer and eating. Today was soggy, mostly. So lay down some more colours on the blightkings, added wings and some tentacles to Daemon Prince, but nothing to show yet.

I did, however, conduct a valuable experiment in paper tokens:

Yup, they work. There are two current Warlord Dredd vehicles in the mix there. Now I need to figure out how to use Photoshop or some such to change the colours of vehicles

I finally got the Metabots done, also. Cybertronian Cogs, transforming Dreadball team.

They all start as Jacks (orange) but can transform into the other positions.

Very cool concept on paper, although not actually a very good team in game.

So of course, I'll be using them for the foreseeable.

Spot the captain and MVP

I also painted the bust of Johann

Getting the cream highlighted and smooth was haaaaaaard

Mantic have released the spectral Johann token as a mantic point promo for what would've been Mantic day, so dutifully set fire to my mantic points (not allowed to post, so have to redeem in novel ways) in a bucket with the boys and sent mantic a picture fire is fun kids! older one is a scout, so he kept us right, and younger one was learning about fire safety at "school".

Tomorrow: blightkings! Plus, should break the 365 barrier

On we go

Lol I do need to change my background.

This is a good month, for all that's going on in the world. Every month, wife and I set aside some cash as a selfish budget, that we only get to touch twice per year (a bit like a Xmas club). This year, it's May and October hers tends to go on overpriced beauty products she wouldn't normally feel she can justify. Me? It'll be an opportunity to pick up a couple of gaps in my Dreadball collection (believe it or not, there are some ) and more Dredd minis, fill in the wave 1 and 2 bits I don't have.

Speaking of Dredd, laid out the Mopad Madness board with enough printed vehicles to fill it

Should be good and dangerous.

Little bits today. Only the Hellboy bust painted in honour of virtual mantic open day.

Love it though. Really enjoyed doing his skin.

However, I didn't do nothing. Most hobby time was spent kitbashing a Gutrot Spume

Pretty decent approximation I reckon.

Hellboy looks badass, lovely deep reds and they pop really well with the jacket. Spume seems suitably gribbly!

That Spume is fantastic .

The board with all the cars on it reminds me of the old video game Frogger . Watch out little moped.....squish.

Managed to score a couple of KS promos I never picked up, maybe get some proper nice beer.
Got Abe sorted

Which means that's the busts done. Back to the KS pledge bits!

Enjoyed them, though not use fussed about doing another bust any time soon lol.

And Tabletop Standard isolation challenge... Complete!

Very pleased with my quasi Medieval Fantasy buildings.

Had an excellent game of Dreadball with my sons, warm up match for the new season of Ultimate and time try our our new teams, Sphyr (older boy), Z'zor (younger boy) and Metabots (me). An outstanding game where despite most of the game being to and fro between Sphyr and Metabots, it went to sudden death between the Z'zor and Sphyr, when a Z'zor jack made a run, pick and bonus score (my god those things can dash) in the final rush, leading to a non-stop stealathon that ended in a stunning Z'zor victory. Other highlight of the match was a Sphyr striker being caught in a Sudden Deluge after a Heatwave and clearly being so distracted that he failed to pick up the ball on 8 dice (4, and a discarded card for rerolls, needing a 4+ on just one of them)
Roll on the 2020 season!

Despite everything, very low today. Not sure why, but suspect it's just being stuck in the house for even longer. I know it's socially responsible but still. Today I'm just brittle and stressed and full of piss and vinegar.

Busts came out great.

Midevil buildings look great as well.

I totally understand the stir craziness your feeling of being cooped up inside. Even with getting out to the store this morning for groceries and working at church I’m still going nuts. I love my wife, I love my kits, I love our cats but I really miss just going to the LGS and perusing the stuff on the shelves.

Bunch of stuff done today and yesterday, so let's have a gander, eh?

Honestly, you'd never know.

Oops, blurry.

I also started on my Oldhammer GUO

I imagine him riding something, maybe a huge slug, to get him to the new size, perhaps with whip in hand. Any ideas?

Von Klempt, the head in a jar on spider legs

Not sure which version of the jar to go with

The model itself doesn't come with one, these were made from LED covers.

And more nazi experiments:

Unmensch!

Continuing the Conqueror Worm theme, the Visitor:

And Ragna Rok Rasputin

He's ragnarockin'

Look out! It's a Monkey with a Gun

(I mean it's clearly an ape but still)

And Iron Shoes

Sorry, some of these pics have come out rather dark. Hmm.

Plus, finally, the League of Fatties

Initially, my brain thought the female one was wearing a thong *shudder*... then my modeller brain said, "What if she WERE?"

So that's a whole lot of gs ass there too.

Bit more chill today. Not gamed any, but planning our new Dreadball Ultimate Lockdown League (not DULL at all with the boys, plus they've played a lot of Chess over Zoom with my dad. Good stuff

Hmm, green nutty nurgly goodness, just need to watch for the unfolding wings when you shell them...

Well now....how about a good old palanquin? Maybe lifted by plaguebearers instead of nurglings to get the height. Or a floating chariot pulled by slugs. A walking platform on insect legs. A throne of pus carried between 2 of his beasts. Borne aloft on a whirlwind of flies. Riding a giant diseased toad. Precariously, but magically balanced on stilts of bone. Suspended from a hovering bell - or chained beneath some bloat flies. Astride a rotting boat that floats on a sea of pus and slugs.

I like the first cover for Von Klempt, it always feels a bit more eerie to me to have more space around un-bodied heads in jars. Cracking job on him too.

Unmensch shows your confidence in flesh tones now. Great job with the visitor too, really feels like it's stepped out of a Mignola page!

And hey, if weather control decided the sun is gonna shine even fatties want to top up their tan.....

I like all of Monkeytrolls ideas, and since you have time you better get crack a lacking on all of them . Me I think you need him hanging on a balloon made of stitched together corpses/infected bloaters. Like the movie UP, where balloons lift the house, he could be lifted by the happy balloons .

I also agree on the first dome helmet. But I’d suggest wrapping the lower area with a bit of card or paper and making rivets to hold it in place. Looks like it has an inset area already for it.

You didn’t paint one of the league of fatties like me .

I knew I could count on your diseased brain to come up with a flurry of nurglicious ideas and you've given me an idea which uses odds and ends I have had lying aroud for ages: a giant bell, suspended from a massive crook in that right arm (which will need reposed, but that's fine).
I enjoyed Unmensch and I feel slightly happier about batch painting my army of SS now lol. Very happy with the Visitor, looking forward to taking him, Roger and Lobster Johnson out for a spin.

That ideas is both excellent and gross. I'm certainly tempted and may play about with the bell inverted to test the theory. Good idea about the rivet strip.

And here is the beginning of the idea of the honking great bell

Tiny Mr Doomsday cometh!

In the spirit of experimention, I'd read somewhere about using pink as a base for rich yellow. So this is just pink, lamenter wash, Cassandra wash, and highlights:

This is yet another Hellboy fig, his cousin, the demon Ualac (he that is in the Box Full of Evil, no less). I suspect that it will work better with contrast paints but the principle is still interesting for firey yellows. I may use it for Dumbledore's base.

Started our new Dreadball League with the kids today. Here's a fluffy match report, if you care about such things:
Spoiler:

WEL-COOOOOOME one and all to the first of the new Season of New Unlimited Dreadball Lockdown League - that's NUDLL (not to be confused with Nude-L), and this season we have the Bloodtyde Buccaneers, Big Bad Beetles and Cybertronian Cogs facing off against one another.

And... those freaky fish are cheating before start, trying to sneak an extra player on the pitch. Well, the Z'zor captain won't stand for that, there's an almighty punch up - and there's not even a ball on the neo yet! He takes out a sneaky fish, and OH MY they didn't like that at all! The bots decided to get in on the action, they're so keen on the fight their whole end is wide open! And a sucker punch from the Sphyr captain gets a huge cheer from the fans! Well the Z'zor aren't going to stand for that, they've grabbed the ball, right over the bots and smack straight into the open goal for fully 3 points! Well, the Cogs roll out, right through to the scoring post and OHHHHHH that's a miss! The Cog coach didn't like that, he's calling for a time out - what does he think this is?!

Aaaaaand the Z'zor jacks wow the fans with a stunning triple dash only to miss a daring strike on the Sphyr, so they go full force into feeding frenzy on the bugs, leaving a wide-open gap (or at least enough for the cogs to crush the strays) and Auto-4 scores for the bonus!

Crazy celebration lead to oil on the bug end and the players go flying. Auto-1 tries to take down the sphyr captain. Auto 5 again is back to foul, and stomps on the bugs' Captain's head. Well that's got the Sphyrs' fins out of whack, they release defensive scent - but auto 4 scores again! The Sphyr are getting over excited by the rain and drop the ball. Star bug storms on to thunderous applause from the fans, grabs the ball, dashes to the C zone... and trips. A5 transforms, grabs the ball and shoots for 1 pt to win!

A great game all round. Only feel slightly guilty for beating the kids it was actually a very close game and I got VERY lucky with the rush counters. Still think Metabots should transform on 3+ but still. More importantly, the kids had a great time and really enjoyed their new teams onto Game 2!

Not much done otherwise. Work was worky and the wife continues to purge the heresy from her parents' house. Maybe tomorrow other stuff.

Hey ho

Yes, ape indeed thanks so much mate, really appreciate it. Hope you like what is coming up right now!

Meanwhile...

Early days. I have ordered milliput, which I rarely use, as that will build up much of the tree/gallows. I lack fantasy bits to corpsify it but I'll figure something.

Anyway, some painting

Ilsa Haupstein, supreme nasty nazi madam.

I hate highlighting black.

Speaking of which...

Karl Ruprecht Kroenen. I've tried to capture an iconic comic frame with the bloody knife.

Fun detailing work. Hmmmmmmmm. Going to really enjoy doing that on 25 grunts. Still, I'll have a viable 28mm skirmish force at the end of it as well.

Very happy with his trenchcoat.

Had another great game of dB with the boys, having tracked down a first ed ultimate mat.

Spoiler:

Well folks here we are at the classic G1 Metroplex Stadium!
Let's see what we've got in store here on the home planet of the Cybertronian Cogs. Fans are certainly pleased to see Auto-2 in the starting lineup tonight, he gets the cheers... and trips! Guess we know why he was benched last game. Auto-4, star player of the season opener comes out to cheers, and BOOOOM gets hit by an overexcited streaker. Visiting matsudon coaches - guess they're here for the sushi - complain and manage to get the game restarted! The Sphyr castle up with the ball, much to the anger of the Z'zor, who set up for the kill...

Well Elmer, the fans here are the Ultimate! Their cheers for the home team bring out the best in auto 6... he scores! And the newly launched ball goes straight to the Cog keeper and they love it as he punts it up the field and towards the Sphyr, only for a Z'zor striker to nip in but oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh that's terrible luck! The tower's out, the scoreboard is haywire, and the Sphyr steal the bounce and go for the long pass to their captain deep in the Cog zone, slams the Z'zor striker into onto bench shattering the 2nd ball as the captain SCOOORES with the first. And it looks the bots are going crazy, that's, Dodds, is that a rogue med bot trying to help out the Z'zor? Think it's circuits are fried, keeps bouncing off the walls! But the crowd don't like that folks, so the Z'zor captain charges, grabs the ball, dashes - the roar of the crowd shakes the roof and makes a light drop to the floor! - I can't look! HE SCORES!
Auto 1 didn't like that, runs for the ball, grabs it charges up but auto-5 fails the catch.

Rush 4 and the home team are first AGAIN. Very suspicious. They go after the ball, but just can't get the pass! Captain charges captain, injured squid! Distracted, they lose the ball!
The Sphyr don't even notice ANOTHER bug shoving them out the way and the CAPTAIN SCORES!
Not to be outdone, the Sphyr grab the other Ball and score!
Into the 5th and the Sphyr press the advantage, their MVP charging across the slam a Z striker, their own striker goes for the winning strike and HEY LOOK AT THAT CHEERLEADER!
Is that even legal? I don't know folks but they've snuck a crushing slam on the other shark striker!
Auto 2 takes the triple dash to grab the ball, dodging and scoring 2! Redemption!
Not to be outdone, the zz cap snatches the other Ball and scores again. New rush, and no time to rest, the bug plucks the new ball out the air and passes to a waiting Jack - turns out he wasn't sleeping, he was playing dead - who scores for the win!

Great game, very close, very tense. Really happy to have the old dbu mat for variety. I maintain that using the event deck gives the story that makes Dreadball all the more special

Got my industrial stairwell and ladders built

Shiny kits from Uncertain Scenery, very tasty.

And finished off my boards:

Rolling Megway

Regular layouts

And flipside

Maybe need to do something with the black board. Not sure yet.

Very happy with how this has turned out. The kids helped with the weathering. Favourite bit was the 4 year old demand I NEED MORE BLOOD! BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!

I admit that's how I'm tackling the Nazis hordes lol.

Supply drop Central here today. Ordered from Caliver Books Thursday morning:

If you're in the UK, highly recommended. Nothing flashy, plain text website, but great value and service.

Kids also got a gw drop:

Productive afternoon, between that and some sabacc.

The next project for me is the Conqueror Worm expansion. Kroenen and Ilsa Haupstein acted as the test.
That's 30 Nazis needing done.
I wouldn't normally be thrilled at the prospect of batch painting mono pose figs but it's the nature of the beast, as it were. As for the Worm itself...

Emerging from its blazing cocoon.

Turned out better than I'd dared hope, tbh.

And scale shot. It's a big un.

Not quite sure how to paint the different Nazi troops. Anyone historically minded care to chip in?

On the subject of worms...

St Leonard's Wyrm, a KS extra for Hellboy

Also made a Blob shop for Dredd.

It's just a dye tub I stuck a medge grill on because it amused me.
This will be a shop or an advertising sign or something. Blobbing was a craze in the big meg many years ago to hide illegal activities.

Pushing on with a few things, Arkham Scarecrow, judges for Dredd. Need to get Harley Quinn from Back to Gotham done so we can play through the rest of the intro game, but I'd like to get the Nazis done by my younger lad's birthday Friday, so I can surprise him with the fully painted expansion to play over his birthday weekend.

Nothing like aiming high, eh?
Best

The Conqueror Worm looks ace! I really like the yellow and black designs on the shell, they look very naturalistic. Remind me of tropical caterpillars.

Apparently , according to the gal in charge of resin casting at Mantic, they hide Conqueror Worms all around Mantic HQ, and if you find one, you keep it.
Apparently...

That's the first time we've tried it, and yeah, DB2. It worked well! My kids kept me right.

Gitsplitta wrote:Bug is awesome graven! Pat yourself on the back!

Cheers buddy, and thanks for the Oni tips.
I'm trying to find an interesting, spear- wielding Oni, akuma or yokai type figure to be the Lightning demon. There's a generic oni in Hellboy which is pretty much the Thunder demon, so now I'm trying to find something to work as his brother. Struggling to find something armoured or skinny enough though.

Had a great game of AoS Sunday with the eldest, our first full 1000pt battle.

He really enjoyed it, even after losing his general very quickly to Putrid Blightkings.

He started playing much more aggressively after that ("I was trying to play the long game, that was where I went wrong") and he managed to pull it back, beating me fair and square. Good times.

Today we played some Hellboy

We had Giant problems. Short, Medium, random scenario. As usual bloody IMPS were the biggest problem we faced. Again. It was really interesting playing a Short scenario, we only had a couple of turns before the Confrontation (endgame), full game in under half an hour.

Because clearly I'm a masochist, I have decided that my Hellboy Nazis need head swaps. I remembered I used some weird war 2 heads in my militia, so those have been removed and new heads found for them (spare KM SWAT heads) which tbh are more in keeping with my soldiers of fortune look anyway.

This gave me 4 extra gas mask heads, 3 of which went on to greatcoated riflemen so they look more like the submachine gunners, and one onto an officer so they have a leader.

This led to more head swaps, GS work - some hair, helms, hats etc. Much happier, but it's keeping me ... Busy, certainly. I'm using khaki shaded with Luftwaffe green, highlighted with tan, for the shirts, intermediate blue for the great coats, heavy dark green for the trousers again shaded Luftwaffe. The officer at the front is the test here. Not strictly historically accurate, but looks the part.

I have not finished painting a model today. This is very odd.

Maybe tomorrow?!

More headswaps than at a Maori tribal meeting , totally inappropriate, but it’s what my tired brain had.

Here I thought the only way for you not to paint a model each day was for your pile of shame to wear out.

It is running low, but there's still stuff a plenty.

A wee update.
Spoiler:

Very low today, just trying to stay on an even keel. Hard to motivate even to paint. Still slogging along.

Started play testing a mate's new supers Game, Super Slugfest, a generic comic battler that allows your own or any comic characters to battle it out. Kids designed characters and built them from Lego to test it.

It's pretty fun, we spotted a few kinks and niggles. We'll get v1.1 in a couple of days and start over.

I did manage to finish model 400:

My converted Arkham Scarecrow

Started the conversion at the start of Lockdown, so seems a fitting milestone. Turned out quite nice, I think.

Dredd stuff and Nazis galore on the desk. We'll see what's ahead.

Hey ho

Scarecrow is excellent, like that a lot.

Hang on in there - plenty of up and down to be expected anyway, let alone in current circumstances. I've barely touched a brush in a week myself, and haven't focused on anything build-wise -slow progress on many and lots of new starts.

Frankly, I'm as astonished as you.

So I discovered that one of my old gaming buddies died unexpectedly from Covid the other day. A real shock, he was one of those brave souls who'd jacked in the real world to set up his own mini company, just starting to get off the ground. Very sad, we shared a love of oldhammer 40k and whiskey. The livestream cremation was yesterday, that's a strange sign of our times indeed.

As well as making me contact some old nerd-buddies that I hadn't spoken to in far, far too long, this motivated me to knuckle down and paint. Maybe just to stop feeling sorry for myself, I don't know.

So Nazis done.

The front model in each group is unmodified. My favourite, I think, is the rifleman at the back left in the little side cap.

(he's middle row, second left in this pic)

That just leaves one fig unpainted... Biggest of big reds!

I seem to have lost the ability to take photos

That's ALL the Hellboy done! Phew! Well, till I get spectral Johan and The Krampus that's not till Father's Day anyway though

Did a test scheme for another DB team on a cheerleader:

Skin looks better in RL

Today's tasks are finish of Anderson & the Cadet, both standing and mounted. Then, onto Harley (BTG display version) and... then back to Nurgle maybe? Try and do the DP for the dakka painting challenge? Mebbe.
Lockdown total so far: 291. Not shabby.

Hey ho,

Yeah, it's a bit quantity over quality though lol

Theophony wrote:Sorry to hear about your friend passing away, always hard to lose a good friend.

Thanks buddy. I did cheat a bit on the Nazis, just went with red armbands, no more tiny hand drawn swastikas. I'll pick up a set of transfers at some point.

Now I don't often show early WIPs but this has come together remarkably quickly:

I've added base scatter from dead sprue and gone with the classic BTAS head/colour scheme. Think it's going to be rather good.

Dredd stuff! Cadet judge, mounted (slightly reposed) and on foot.

MEdge stuff is amazing for basing Dredd.

Anderson, mounted and on foot

Because the wee fella came with a base, I had to give Anderson one. Which meant Dredd neeed one too

Cadet bikes are TINY!

Excited to see pre-orders are back from 30th, means I'll be getting Taros from the boss for me b'day at the end of the month, hopefully Meanwhile, though I'm out of superglue ( ), milliput arrived yesterday, so can get on with the GUO and the Plague Drones.
Buzz, buzz,

Great work on Harley

Solid red armbands are a good solution. Who’s to say that in that universe hitler didn’t give up on the swastika and gold solid red at least for a bit.

Tiny bikes because the cadet is only allowed to run over tiny people.once they get the training wheels off they can go after the big offenders .

To be fair it's partly because the judges bases are so much higher. But still hilarious. I could in theory stack another warlord oval underneath, I suppose.

youwashock wrote:Middle bike looks like it should have training wheels.

Love Anderson.

Thanks, she was not much fun to paint in many ways, but she's done at least:

I think what frustrated it me most is that it's a very poor cast, very rough. I've sanded and gs'd where I can but the rubbery material is not conducive to modding, really. Definitely the weakest link in the set.

Well thank you. I do love the Hellboy goodness (and badness). Almost a shame to have finished

Meanwhile, building:

Plague flies built! These are significant as they are the last of the batch of 40th stuff I got (so, nearly 2 years ago). Just a bit of filling, and some spewy goo to mask the paperclip bases.

And the oldhammer GUO takes shape:

Obviously there is a glaring large piece of uncovered metal; I'm debating whether to shorten it down somewhat. or do we think that the height it's at works?

My shelf of shame looks remarkably empty. A few dreadball figs, Daemon Prince and Icon Bearer, a couple of BMG figs. The boy has lots of scenery to paint, but that's his problem It's quite satisfying, all in all.

One last question for the hivemind - anyone have much experience of Reaper Bones? I'm looking at a couple of chronoscope figs and can't decide whether to go with the plastic or metal versions. How's the detailing?
I await your wisdom, O mighty dakkasphere!

Yep, Harley turned out superb. Colourful without being too colourful I think.

Can't say I'm a huge fan of Bones stuff. Admittedly, they're probably better now than the early ones I had, but I dug some out for DnD the other day and it definitely reminded me why I never bought any more. Lots of very mushy faces, bent limbs, sculpts really not done justice. Given that the price difference between Bones and metal on the Reaper store is usually no more than a few quid, I go metal every time, but ymmv, of course.

Nice plague flies.

Think the big bell works at the present height - I think the bell itself would be too low if you shorten the haft.

In my experience, Bones is a great material for larger models-- monsters, giants, and the like. For human sized models, it just doesn't hold the detail very well. For mooks in a dungeon crawl, that's not a problem, but for PCs or characters in a warband, that's a pretty big obstacle.

Nice work on all the many things.

Some thoughts on the bell tree:
If the model is balanced (physically and artistically) then it can be as long/big as you like.
To me I may be tempted to give the trunk a twist/bend to bring the bell more central (above the wielder) from the front.
But only you can really tell what will work best as you can hold and look at the model from all angles. So keep balance in mind when moving forward.
Maybe think about what he's doing with the tree too, walking stick, ringing, swinging for a hit?

Re: bell, I agree that the height is good but for some reason the haft below the fist looks a bit thicker than the fist itself - it might just be the angle of the picture though. Everything above the fist looks ace, I don't think it needs to be shortened but Dr. H has a good point about the positioning.

Re: Bones, I've only done two larger kits (the Cthulhu kit and the Kraken) and I have no complaints (other than the need to wash the pieces very thoroughly, and the need to seal the model well to avoid collecting too much dust). The details were very well realized. I defer to Kid Kyoto vis. human-sized models.

EDIT: Also Harley looks great! I don't notice any jenky joins or similar - looks like you did a great job filling in any gaps.

I've only used a few bones models, never chopped any up, so not sure on conversion potential. But like others have said, small bones models have low detail, the bigger ones are nice though.

You're very kind indeed. Not a fan of the fig tbh. I've picked a metal chronoscope fig I fancied, under £6, we shall see how it turns out.

Yeah I need to be careful. Ideally I'd like to leave it unglued also for transport purposes; we shall see.

Good advice. Hopefully the metal will look good, there's a lot of detail on the fig I've gone for.

Well now, sorry for the hiatus over the weekend, but it was the wee fella's birthday and you're not 10 every day, after all Weather's good too just now, so garden and meat provide welcome distraction. Not having to think about work, or anything really, has been made the best of the last few days. I have pottered about a bit, building and priming Dredd minis - and running out of grey primer, but manged to just about squeeze enough out, mostly.

I'm very impressed with these figs. I only got the Citi-Def (sniper, Rocket Launcher and officer) to fill out an order - they cost a whisper more than postage would've, so why not? - and I'm really glad I did, they're cracking. The extra gangers are great, too; Gerhart, the SJS judge, is a seriously nice fig also, and by far the best cast of the resin bikes so far.

I also did a few Dreadball minis...

The twin on the right suffers from some of the worst model design I've ever encountered. My metal one was snapped through the foot even before she came out of the packet; they sent a resin replacement, and as I was removing the casting tab... yup, you guessed it, she broke. Hence why I've left a resin strand attached, I'm considering making it a trail of blood (they're a single murderous AI controlling two bodies). The critter with claws is a Stalker from Deadzone that now has DB rules, and the last lump is a fiery beast for KoW that'll work well as a coaching assistant for my Infernal team.

I do still have the pistachio primer of papa power however! So Plague Flies and GUO are primed. Here's the assembled GUO:

Base is a bit of AoS scenery, some extraneous nurgle bits, and the lid of a soup tub I found whilst clearing out the tupperware cupboard I've shortened the top section of the bell slightly and repositioned it, but it's not attached: it removes neatly for storage.

Come together nicely. Not overly rushed to paint. I feel I've done my quota for the month

Played our way through Conqueror Worm. Utterly terrifying.

Secret Nazi Room! Ssh! Contains Super Secret Nazis!
Kids loved it. Eldest went off to binge BPRD comics

Boy also has scenery projects on the go

Should keep him busy.

Younger lad meanwhile designed a Lego game. Roll a d6, add that many 2x2 bricks to your tower, one at a time. Kinda reverse Jenga. Really, really good fun.

I must apologise, incidentally, to the entire gaming community. I joked, about 2 years ago, that the likelihood of me finishing my 40k army would be when 9th comes around... foolishly, I started this.

So, yeah, sorry about that.

Now that the GUO is primed and on a permanent base, it almost looks like his bell staff is getting crushed in his hand, which would probably happen with a rotting and disgusting tree . Shame he's not ridding on the death star anymore though, it was kind of a cool nod.

Organic hydraulics of a sort. I'm just going to gradually stick bits on and see what works
Army of hooligans you say?

"We take Gotham from the corrupt! The rich! The oppressors of generations who have kept you down with myths of opportunity, and we give it back to you... the people. Gotham is yours. None shall interfere. Do as you please. Start by storming Blackgate, and freeing the oppressed! Step forward those who would serve. For an army will be raised. The powerful will be ripped from their decadent nests, and cast out into the cold world that we know and endure. Courts will be convened. Spoils will be enjoyed. Blood will be shed. No it's just terrible photography lol. Yes, I can be rather guilty of one more brush stroke syndrome

Cheers! You're certainly and inspiration. However. The PBC is likely to sit at this stage until I start a quite different project... One involving planes...
Very little done today. It's rather warm, and then socially distant drinking happened.
Did start on these:

The boy insists they are Height 1 obstacles for Aeronautica. Who am I to argue

I also found copperhead and catman for BMG, who I quite forget were lying in a jar of Dettol, stripping for the last couple of months. Might have to do something with them...

Well indeed! The boy is busily writing rules for them
DJJazzyJeff wrote:And months of sitting in a stripping bath make a model that much more ready to go to town on.

Fnar.

More heat. Nice day, but tiring. Still, a bit more work on the PBC:

It's a lot of rummaging through bits and seeing what feels right. It's really important to me that the rear end preserves the RTB1 hull shape.

Whilst rummaging, quite another idea came to me:

Da Bloody Barun is go!
Blood Axe pilot, a Kitbash Eavy Bommer with Imperial lines. Da Bloody Barun rekkuns dat you makes a plane dat looks like a hoomie one far away an by da time dey find out it's a big bommer dey is already ded.

Need to figure out how best to do the engines. The bottom of the fuselage is built from the classic exhausts harvested from the rhino above. The engines are proving more problematic, the best idea so far is the mantic orc weird guns you can see to the right hand edge of the shot, but they're a bit short. I want something with plenty of greebling; I've used the doors as wings so I can build cabling if I have too but would like to exploit existing detailing. Small light saber hilt is also a maybe, but to get a second I'd need to harvest from existing terrain - which is fine, but that brings its own issues Still, I have two other bits boxes to dig through.
Hey ho

I used to read Ghost a lot, until they retconned her origin. The early stuff with the weird mix of noir and deco art really appealed to me.
Don Qui Hotep wrote:Yeah, Masks and Monsters is one of the best Hellboy volumes. Maybe a diorama is in her future?

Possibly, but I'd need to get another Hellboy. I got her because I love the character and she's also ideal for playtesting generic supers rules (which I'm also helping a mate with).

DJJazzyJeff wrote:May the force be with Da Bloody Barun.

Did you say you took that lightsaber out of a terrain piece?

I did, I used it on my dice tower. But I can rebuild!

This unseasonable warmth is distracting. I am not really painting... shucks. I did ITRO 290 figs in lockdown, it's likely to last at least another couple of weeks, I may crack 365 by then, I may not. I'm at 442 for the year so far, I think I'm good I don't cope well with enforced painting deadlines. I'd like to get my desk clear before the end of the month - i.e. to make space for father's day and birthday toys - but I'm not going to stress. There isn't an enormous amount to do but still - no rush. I'm also approaching 350 pages here AND 10th anniversary of the blog (on 14th) so may do something to commemorate that.

One of my mates is spending Lockdown with his heavily pregnant woman. She's due at the end of the month, on my birthday no less. He's a Spidey obsessive, with no time or inclination to paint, but got hold of some old km stuff, so I'm going to do them up for him. First up, Superior Spider-Man on a custom base:

Should be fun. he's not in any rush. It's not like he's going to be gaming in the next five... Years.

Meanwhile, the PBC is just about done:

It might need some wee extra GS work, tentacles here and there.

However, DID get the pylons done

These should be decent obstacles at height 1 or 2.

And Da Bloody Barun is built and primed!

I am very happy with this indeed

And I think there is sufficient dakka. :dakkadakka: Mebbe.
[
Mounting the flight stand may prove tricky but if I have to I'll attach a rod permanently. Whilst I don't have a spare AI base, Skies of Fire (Taros) is coming so I can chop and change my imperial stuff as need be. Skies of Fire box is likely the birthday haul from wife and taros campaign map/book from parents. Finally got them all trained As well as treating myself to some Dreadball bits I'm lacking, I'm getting a Hellboy themed father's day too. Raise 'em right
On we plod, or possibly plog,

Really appreciate that, it was a very satisfying mish-mash:
Hot Wheels 2JetZ
Lightsaber pen lids
MEdge fans and small rectangular plates
North Star Instruments of carnage guns for nose turret (on an IG stubber mount) and treadplate
Mad Cars Trike chariot cabling
RH1N0 exhausts
Old Chimera hatch pieces (to make tail fin and parts of wing)
Chaos Rhino smoke launcher
Ork shoulder pads
Battlewagon door pieces
AI Grot Bomb pilot
AI Grot Bommer tail cut down to make tail wings
AI Marauder nose insert
AI Big Shootaz for dorsal turret
AI (!) Bombs used for actual purpose

Theophony wrote:Stelf Bommer . No one can see him because of all the smoke and fumes surrounding him .

I reckon that actually the harvested bit of Maruader nose cone transmits an imperial signal. It's an old code, but it checks out

Well, it certainly sits on a throne of lies Thanks. I'm not under any delusion that it's permanent but with the little one back at nursery I can actually get on with work in the house whilst supporting the other two. Makes a massive difference.

Pootling along with work. Busy busy. Reorganising my work space also. But in the meantime, a couple of figs painted:

Reaper's Chronoscope Nighslip, who I'm using as Dark Horse's Ghost.

Trying to go for a colour scheme as close as possible to the comics, white shaded with blue.

She's teeny! 28mm I suppose, but she's actually only a wee bit smaller than Liz and I'm not fussing. Just happy to have one of my fave characters in mini form. If you've never read GHOST, the first (and tbh best) omnibus volume is free on Dark Horse's website just now - that's 300+pages of comic goodness I did shell out a princely two bucks for Ghost/Hellboy also. Shock. I'd actually forgotten how good it was, and reinforced my desire to stat her up for the game.
Tangentially, I also started reading BPRD Hell on Earth and was REALLY disappointed Never mind eh. It's not really folkloric horror though, but rather post-apoc, so to my mind doesn't gel with Hellboy. Anyway, enough rambling: more Minis.

How about a (web)blast from the past: KM Marvel figs.

I AM the Spider-Man. I am simply... Superior.

I enjoyed making the base, though had to go 40mm to get the bloody model to balance. I used a spare Killer Croc tail for The Lizard.

Spiderbots. Rubbish pic.

Particularly proud of the Spiderling in the middle, the gun arm was missing from below the bicep and so scratch built that one.

Go Team Superior!
These are for my mate cavzilla, not exactly a commission, more doing a mate a favour. I'd previously done some Freeze goons for him in Batman&Robin style, and I think there are more of hose inbound. He's not a painter at all and with a newborn on the way needs the support
The desk continues to get tidied. I have made decent progress on the shelf o' shame but new toys keep appearing don't know how that happens
Speaking of which, this wee beauty came in the post:

If not the rarest then at least the most desirable of promos, Ref Dredd for Dreadball, or rather, Dreddball. He makes the game extra nasty if you "happen" to foul lol.
Happy days,
Graven

On the subject of comics, I really hope DC cutting ties with Diamond is a good thing. I'm not sold on this whole "war on Marvel" take; could really help small retailers if it brings down prices but the ensuing melee could also really hurt them, and given how bad so many have been hit by lockdown etc tough times ahead.

However it also meant I could get a bunch of terrain primed

Where's the terrain from? I really like that stair-crate, would be perfect for Kill Team or Infinity.

You know, I played about half a game of the Batman edition and I didn't feel like it really added anything enough to the main game to warrant its price, although the miniatures were perfectly okay. Basically you pick a villain and Batman will randomly move throughout the board (or moved by your opponents) to try and beat you up. I suppose I'd recommend it to anyone who didn't have a copy of Talisman, wanted one, and liked Batman.

Match report below
Spoiler:

Aaaaaaand we're back under the GCPS dome for tonight's GLORIOUS game 3 of the NUDLL season. Brought to you by Slug-o-cola, the Sluggiest cola in the galaxy!

"We should be in for some serious action tonight folks, with the Bigbad Beetlebugs bringing in fan-fave Slalaran Vesh for the rest of the season."
"That's right Dodds and it can't hurt that he's got that Slug-o-cola endorsement."
"And seems like everyone's paying out got the stars with Rico van Diem joining the Cogs for tonight's match. Sounds like the Sphyr have started a new trend!"

"Rico grabs ball and goes straight for a early score to give the bot fans what they've been waiting for. Vesh wants some attention for himself, or maybe just a cuddle? Who knows! But Rico's not having any of it! The Z'zor are hungry for blood today, with the guard growing Wings and taking the fight to the fish!"
"Well there's blood in the water now, and Kwik is in for the fight - ooh, bug splat on the windshield! And with the stomp that's dirty, dirty game here folks! And the fans are LOVING it!"

"Into the second rush and riding the wave the Sphyr grab the ball, only to crash flat into the Z'zor zone. Rico grabs the scattered ball and scores once more! The bots are so busy celebrating that they hardly have time to notice the Bug captain sneaking in for a 2pt score. In all the excitement they try to grab the newly launched ball but fall just short."
"Bad day for the bots today, I guess it's a shame they can't enjoy the cool, refreshing taste of a fresh Slug-o!"
"Right you are Dodds, well, in the confusion the Sphyr have taken advantage and OH MY scoooooore in the Z'zor bonus. The bots try to roll out a score too, only to roll over and lose the ball - but not before sending the Sphyr star player to the bench."
"Elmer, that's going to hit the Buccaneers right where it hurts - right in the wallet."

"Into the 4th and fights break out all over, and the Sphyr are wiped off the pitch! What's that smell...?"
"Well with open goals, that's a bonus score to Z'zor! One fan is so excited they've shed their skin and go STRAIGHT into Vesh - he didn't see that coming! But then, neither did the Z'zor captain! Straight down to the Firewall! And the autos score in the open zone for the bonus."

"The Sphyr are swimming upstream so snatch a quick point off the central post. The Z'zor captain tries to sneak round for a cheeky score but fails, Rico does the same and has no luck either!" "Folks, it's chaos here with everyone falling over, even the slippery captain, and they go for a daring bonus strike on the bots - oh, a miss, straight off the wall, and the bots grab - but it seems like no one can score! Even Vesh wants in the action - again! Oh but that was terrrrrrrible idea as the bots steal the ball and SCORE!"
"And we're into the 7th! Well Rico isn't going to miss this time, he swans up to the ball and takes the lazy single for the win!"

Another great game, I really feel for my eldest - he just has TERRIBLE luck with the Sphyr.
He's trying hard to be sporting about it. He's tempted to go back to Kalyshi but I've given him a couple of my spare teams to play about with just in case. He's going to do a Star wars themed drone team which should be fun. Roger Roger
Also, I painted up another coach, and a cheerleader as another test scheme: Orion female Kalyshi

Got some powder weathering done too

Progress on all fronts, I think!
Now, to get Tabletop Simulator working.

How many different teams are there for Dreddball? It seems every time your bringing up a new team. Your not just pulling my leg and making up names now are you . Nurgley guys are looking great, loving the demon prince even more with color

Sounds like a fun game was had.

Papa's boys all looking great with some colour on, the 'big' guy and the Artist Formerly Known As Plague in particular.

28 tournament legal. 30 official. Half a dozen semi official. I have... some

It was, and today's was pretty awesome too... very fast, my eldest played a VERY aggressive game and ground us both into the dirt. He listened to my advice on strategy and he finally clicked with his team The dice gods hated myself and my youngest but tbh it would've just delayed the inevitable.

Anyway, a bevy of

Daemon Prince Covidiumus

Great Unclean One with Doombell

In the end, he's come out ok I think.

I like the way the rats seem puzzled by the bell. Awfully familiar.

Icon Bearer of Nurgle

Trying a dark, dark rusty iron for this guy.

And the Plague Drones

Nice to get through these at last. This also means I've finally finished everything I got for my 40th Only taken 2 years just the pbc and gutrot to do know.

And started another hot wheels ork plane, because reasons.

Tried Dreadball over Tabletop Simulator today. Really impressed, looking forward to a full game Friday.

Merrily, we roll along,
Graven

Proper filthy

Cheers! In the end he was a lot of fun.

Had to gut my classroom today, in preparation for the return, so no nerding. Quite cathartic, in many ways: 15 years of crud. Still, got home to a couple of cracking early birthday presents: a whole bunch of transformers cards from a couple of mates, and a lovely surprise from my parents - a set of Marauder Destroyers and the AI card decks for Orks and Imps. Outstanding.

All looking 'nice' - really like the guo as a whole piece, the base has a lot of character.

Who needs reasons for making hot wheels planes?

Hope all goes well for the school return.

Well this very true. I would've made more progress with it today but seem to have mislaid the sheet of diamond treadplate I'm going to clad it in

Today on the other hand was nerdtastic. Whilst I did have some work stuff to do, I had a brutal game of Ultimate with the boys. I cheated mercilessly (in a legitimate Dreadball way), my eldest was both sporting and played brilliantly, and my younger had fun and was gracious in defeat. As if that wasn't enough, I also played in my first full online match in the inaugural online worldwide league, using Z'zor (space bugs). Played against Koris, teleporting spider aliens, one of the only teams I don't own and really don't know at all, and against all odds won by a landslide in the 11th rush (my 5th turn of 7). Very patient opponent explained Tabletop Simulator to me very well: it is quite intuitive but my old win7 machine is a bit clunky - and I'm not the most adept any more, frankly. I remember when i was young and understood in technology

I laid some spots of colour down here and there, nothing major. Oh AND finished up some minis too...

Kitbash Gutrot Spume

mmm, fleshy

And the PBC

Bit of that oldhammer love

Which of course means I am... Fully Painted! Well, for nurgle at least. Shock.

Pretty pleased with the progress, I'm not going hell for leather but I am trundling along.
Hey ho,
Graven

Your doing better than me with painting that’s for sure. Gutrot is fantastic, I’d say better than the actual model. The PBC is also really nicely completed. Love the machine gun coming out of the mouth thing.

Let me echo that Gutrot is looking ace. Congrats on knocking down all of your Nurgle, it's hard to imagine that you have any models left to paint!

Congrats on finishing everything Nurgle, both demon prince and GUO are great, but I love the icon bearer. He looks so menacing with his rotting armour and then the bright green eye lenses focusing on you before a bolter shell hits you in the head.

Dude, don't be so hard on yourself, your painting is ace. I am VERY happy with Gutrot, my gw staffer chum said the same but shhhhhhhh! Yeah that beast of nurgle kit has done a LOT of miles

Oh you sweet summer child and thanks

Cheers. You do rather force one to the game when it comes to bodging in the name of nurgle!

My thanks I like the very rusted iron too.

I'm a bit taken aback with all the love for him tbh but thanks!

So today is my 10 year anniversary of this Blog, and 350 pages, no less! Woo arbitrary target reached! Cue maudlin sentiment. First, a few shout-outs: Fifty, who was the very first person to comment and is still not bored, Briancj who's been around since the very beginning of the previous incarnation of the blog when it was just me kitbashing IG, and Gitsplitta who's also been here since pg 1, and has become a particular friend and mentor over the year, constantly pushing me to raise my painting game in particular. Whilst there are many, many others I could mention and thank, you'll have to settle for a giant THANKYOU for the help, advice and support you've been through ups and downs, of course with hobby but also from little one's open-heart surgery (which also happened on pg 1), crippling hand problems, fighting depression and most recently work-related stress. There is simply no community like it and I am genuinely proud call myself a Dakkanaut.

Anyway, enough sentimental claptrap.
Toys!
I have actually not done much today, very lazy day. Updated my Z'zor (space bug) league roster for online play, I'm up against Kalyshi (space witch elves) next: I loathe them, they're very fast and very stabby, but pretty fragile - if you've played BB you know the sort of thing - so I'm definitely going to play smashy defence. They WILL be aiming to come to me and taking the fight to them is a mistake; my guard has levelled up and is even hittier, but unexpectedly one of my strikers was actually VERY good last game (Z'zor Strikers are notoriously rubbish) so he's my ace in hole. Money in the bank too, so going to buy some stuff, probably some staff to give me rerolls etc.

Speaking of Dreadball, played some Xtreme with kids.

Ultraviolent on a modular board. Good times!

However, I did do a little Sunday Driver:

And a bit more work on Da Blakk Panfa

Belly

He'll be black and purple/silver trim. On to the gap filling!
That's me 100 figures more than last year painted. I've slowed down a bit this month though
Onwards, another ten years,
Graven

Happy ten year anniversary . My 10 years on DakkaDakka is on Sunday, and I don’t think I hit the P&M area for a while after that.
Good luck with the online game today. Never been an online gamer, but I’ve never put in the money on a decent computer to do any real gaming their. Too broke from minis .

Waaaaaaah!

That's amazing. Ten YEARS!!! 350 PAGES That's just absurd.

You and Gits are right there on page 1 of my blog too, which is now at nine and a half years. I've always appreciated the support on my blog and have enjoyed watching yours too. Yours is, what, fifteen times longer then mine? (Phwoooar)

Right now, I love your Nurgle stuff. Purples and greens are where it is at for Grandpappy's boys, with bits of orange for good measure, so you hit the exact spot.

I have to be honest, I'm not a fan of Dreadball, but that is the game, not your work on it, which is quality.
