I would do something akin to Knightley - double up. I think exorcists are definitely the best fit for count as GKs, but give yourself the option of running vanilla, especially given they have a character chaplain (crozius, power fist and jump pack iirc). I'd even consider just having 2 squads of tacs and 4 razorbacks. Split em in half and kit 5 men out as mini assault squads, chuck in a chaplain and you've got a playable, useful force.
Sevrin Loth is a thing of utter beauty. I have one sitting primed and ready for my Mentors, who I feel a little guilty about abandoning, albeit temporarily.
So it turns out that this is what I can do in a day. My estimate of remaining time at 4 days was about right, it seems: my parents are descending tomorrow (woo) and next Monday keeping kids of nursery. Still, if I can do this much in each of my other 3 days, I'll be very pleased indeed. I've decided the best way to approach the painting is on a Squad by squad basis, with a fun thing or two in the mix to distract me. This made for a good day, mentally at least.
First off, you may remember the marvellous Knightley offered to do me a Grandmaster, and here is, newly based (and about 90% there) by me:
I am indebted to Knightley, as being able to see his physical brushstrokes has really helped, especially with the lenses. I love the power weapon effect, and am considering doing it for the rest of the force; thoughts (also @ Knightley - care to give us a walkthru of it?!) This would mean losing the lightning on the test model, but I can live with that.
Onwards. The NDK first: I am pretty happy, generally, though I'm concerned that the metal is simply too dark generally. I wonder whether either more silver, or other metals (brass/copper - not gold, I think, as that's already in evidence) would help. Thoughts?
Some extra detail of the base showing the Dragon Warrior dread a little better. Fun to do - as erithromycin commented, "Only you would waste a dreadnought on a a scenic base." Hell yeah.
Took loads of the LRC, and they just plain didn't work. Never mind *sigh*. Switched to wife's camera, with a bit more success:
It's probably going to get BT swords along the top of each faring, just to break it up a bit. But, otherwise pretty much done, apart from muddying up the tracks. A heinous kit to build (it's an old metal one), still very happy with it, especially the depth of colour on the red. I managed, with the aid of micron pens, to write, "Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for thou art with me" on the book on the front, much to my childish amusement. Gave lens work a shot, opinions? Oh, and the interior's also been painted - yup, plush leather seats and all!
And the squad of the day is Interceptors. Mostly done bar, as mentioned, power weapons. Obviously, he doesn't have a power weapon I'm really thrilled with the fabric, hope the rest of y'all are too. It's part of my general switch to Vallejo paints, using: GW Black Primer> Vj Terracotta > GW Sepia > GameCraft Royal Purple > GC Dark Red > Vallejo Bright Red > GC Orange. No red ink wash at present, GW or VJ, not sure, not sure at all. Very happy with how the jump pack turned out - lens! - and aegis hood made from DW termie shield.
I really have no idea what to do to razzle-dazzle the daemonhammer. Answers on a postcard, please.
Oh, how I love Sternguard models. Yes, I know, GKs can't have PFs - I don't care, he looks cool, and it's an easy way of telling apart the justicar! Thanks to the mighty bashthebosh for the fig, btw.
The horns on the CSM definitely need work, but quite pleasantly surprised how this one turned out. I thought it looked a little daft when I made it, but all in all, quite content.
Ok, I admit it. I am a closet Nurgle worshipper. Always have been. Really love the putrescent stuff. And GKs give me an excuse to put some of that out on display!
So there you have it, a day's efforts. I'm still not sure, I'm thinking particularly that the SBs could do with a different metal on them, just to break it up a bit (possibly P3 Brass Balls). All C&C, as always, more than welcome and indeed desperately sought!
The Night Lord helm on the Psycannoneer's in your honour m'dear There's a sorcerer on the base of one of the Paladins, too; I've tried to get at least one dead Night Lord into every unit
If you're worried about the 'darkness' of the armour, maybe just hit the models with a light drybrush if Mithril Silver.
Personally though, I think it's pretty cool to have some dark Grey Knights. Too many people will just be painting them all shiny and that doesn't fit their fluff.
It's all looking great to me though. The idea of a real dark NDK works for me, constantly walking about with flamers spouting flaming jelly, it'd be sure to get singed.
In hindsight, I'm inclined to agree. Dark metal just doesn't photo that well I guess. And thanks for the kind words! I'm seriously considering jade power weapons just now, as I think the contrast will pop nicely. I'll try to get a test done this pm, along with some work on a gms fig or two.
Great stuff Graven - just looking back through this thread and OH MY GOD you've done a lot of work - both the modelling and the painting are superb. Love the more gritty, grimy look to the metallics on the Grey Knights - makes them look much more 'serious' - like they really mean business. Also, the Mentor Legion! - how lovely to see these guys, particularly with the proper old-school owl icon. Love it - as you know I'm a fan of less-obvious marine chapters ;-) in fact I dallied with Mentors years ago (like, 18-20 years ago to be honest...), I'm sure I've got one somewhere with an attempt at a freehand owl... will see if I can dig it out for a giggle. Keep up the good work mate, this thread bookmarked.
Thanks for the support! Yeah, we have Dark Eldar, why not Dark Grey knights? or maybe that should be Grimdark Knights?
Continuing that theme, I've decided to go with an obsidian effect for the blades: stippled White over the prime, layered dark green, and glaze medium. Is lush; would Love to put up pics but my broadband is down till the start of next week. Boo, rubbish, etc.
To give myself a wee break from painting, yesterday I built a squad of termies from bits, and played some Game of Thrones CCG, as well as finishing Dance with Dragons. DIY today, might try to get some phone pics up via Facebook or some such.
Gadzooks man, you've been rather busy! Quite impressed with the sheer amount you've pumped out

Course mate, I would be happy to, I'll have to find a blade to do it on, but once I do I'll be happy to post how to
Wow graven, love the little summary, i love your Dark Knights (;P). Honestly, they just look a lot more....brutal than the shiny shiny GKs, nice work.
For the NDK, maybe make the whole model look like it has been bathed in flames a few times (as suggested before) may work, but kind of in reverse. I mean, black base and then (dry)-brushing the edges with copper/brass to pick oput the details.
But rather annoyed with fw. Did an order for myself a week or so ago, and rang up to ask if the Imperial Strongpoint would be available any time soon; they told me Mid- late August. Had I known it was out today, I'd've waited. Their loss, but still. Also, they sent me BT storm shields rather than GK brass etch for no apparent reason. Ho hum.
Still, in other news, I got a BA battleforce through from Battleroad - huzzahs all round!
To be fair they were very helpful. Wish I'd said something bigger hadn't arrived nah, kidding. I've already offered the shields to Knightley, I'm afraid - unless you 2 want to duke it out, bareknuckle, here on the forum...
Where's my cut?! Anyway, this also means I have a spare pair of legs for you, Miss Dee. I'm going to try turning some mk7 helms into Crusader with my limited gs-fu. Oh, and via ups rush delivery, got my brass etch. Huzzahs all round.
Awesome work Graven! beautiful models dude! please for the love of god don't change the metal! :-) I looooove the dark metal look to them! much more grimdark future than all shiny and new, yet they don't appear to be ill kept, just old suits well looked after and used to honor the emperor's will across the galaxy! bloody great!
I'll throw a couple at Lenny, how about that as I'm in the UK anyway?! As for guide, I think it'd be great up in your blog, as anyone who reads that'll see it, and anyone here will just head over to yours. Off to the post office as I type, btw!

Hey, lost in mid post - many thanks indeed, very much appreciated!
Not doing much today - was at a wedding till midnight, wife's got a half day, so just chilling really. Added some plastruct supports to my Sanctum Sororitas, organised my GK bits (next up: 4 more halberdiers, and a Falchion squad for horde armies), built/rebuilt gms fig for Njal, and started work on a psilencer Sternguard conversion. Still at war with bees...
Cool and the gang. I sent your stuff, and found more when I got home. Also, I have misplaced my fwig general with banner - lmk if I sent him to you by accident!
I'm really glad some many folk are digging the dark metal look, it greatly allays my fears.
I've not done much over the last wee while, had a bit of a break - played some cards, caught up with Family Guy et al, took my #1 kid out, that sort of thing. I don't want this project to reach burn-out - that's kind of happened with the mentors, after all. I've been doing some building, which is pleasant for variety, and am debating whether to paint or build today. It's the last real day of the school hols to myself, with back to work on Monday (boo, hiss, etc). I'm slightly wary however of not painting as I don't do much when I don't have the time, if you know what I mean. Anyway, one way or t'other, expect some pics of... something, I guess, later today.
inmygravenimage wrote: Anyway, one way or t'other, expect some pics of... something, I guess, later today.
I'll hold you to that. That's the encouragement for me to post pictures up and stop being lazy as I have the past few weeks.
Even though all I've been painting is Dark Elves and Tyranids. (I have like, 13 days now to get 500 points of Elves, 6 Hormagaunts and a Winged Tyrant done)
Ok, been busy, although rushed photos, sorry as ever:
Weeping Angel counts-as Lamenter IA character, a GMS for Njal:
Fun with snips and gs!
And a whole pile of stuff I've been building. Treadhead is my middle name (well, it's Edward actually, but still):
Fun and/or games with FW Brass, as you can tell. Hatches not done because I've got Razorback--sh plans there.
And a =][= Chimera:
The whole 5 fire points / 6 lasgun thing has always, always bugged me as an IG player, so this was my fix. It should have the FW general with banner in the turret, but I'm damned if I know where I've put him
A small pile of PAGKs with Falchions, using some lovely BA bits from the lovely Battleroad:
And the rest:
Some guys to bulk out halberdiers:
(Cue "Duel of the Fates"!)
And a guy with a Psilencer. Hey, seemed like a plan at the time.
Last up, Terminators, using bits from the ol' box:
(bit disco diva that last one)
So, a productive summer. Most of army block painted, a unit, a tank and a NDK fully painted, and rest of army bar Stormraven built.
Not bad, not bad.
C&C as ever, troops. Also, if anyone has any ideas for my last 5 PAGK, I'm all elbows. Or possibly ears.
It is indeed a Dante I bought off t'interweb covered in yellow paint and stripped, and proceeded to chop a bit. Glad you like the brass etch, I'm a total convert to it: genuinely good value for money, IMO.
Too true extra assorted weapons, pads etc courtesy of Miss Dee, and the headless wonders above will hopefully soon he blessed by Knightley. Soon I shall have an whole army o' stuff! Mwahaha, etc.
Ok, final update of the day: the interceptors (and the test Paladin) with finalised paintjobs and the obsidian effect. NDK's not here because he's getting some brass etch added first.
And a close-up:
And the family photo:
The green blob to the left of the pic, btw, is icing. This is what comes of using cake boxes *sigh*
And a couple of different views of the Paladin:
Btw, thanks everyone for your continuing support. Your gallery votes have been very motivational and your comments continue to push me further.
Thanks on both counts bud. And yeah, the brass etch is awesome; I'm now debating going down the route of etched lettering from local railway/naval modelling stores (advantages of living in city with very, very active geek quotient).
The obsidian was very simple and I really like it:
Prime Black
Vallejo Game Colour Black (or any high gloss black - it's what I used on the rim of their bases);
Drybrush White, but dabbing on the weapon surface rather than running it along highlight points;
Vallejo Game colour Dark green in a thin layer (tbh game colour is already very thin though)
Vallejo Gloss Medium (to preserve sheen after Matt varnish).
... and that's it! You don't need the gloss medium though, and actually it's ok over chaos black too.
Not sure about the chaos marine head hanging from the bolt pistol on the first one... but otherwise they look fantastic! (to borrow a term from an old Doctor) Very nice job on the obsidian weapons... and your white helmets are nice and crisp. Very envious of that.
Glad you like the White, means a lot coming from the king of yellow. I see what you mean about the chaos marine head - the skull is held in the hand, but the dark metals mean it all kind of blends into one. Hmm.
Happy news today: got my Chapterhouse SR kit and some other bits, so I'm going to try to get the SR built ASAP. Just got to decide on loadout (unless I'm willing to magnetise, which I don't think I am!)
Wow, It seems you and I are on quite a bit of the same wave length Graven, I also have purchased a CH SR kit (should over the pacific at this point emperor willing) however I will have to wait till this push is done before assembling it, I'm going to be interested what it looks like, so you can be my test subject
Knightley wrote:Wow, It seems you and I are on quite a bit of the same wave length Graven, I also have purchased a CH SR kit (should over the pacific at this point emperor willing) however I will have to wait till this push is done before assembling it, I'm going to be interested what it looks like, so you can be my test subject
Great minds think alike - or possibly, fools seldom differ, I forget which.
The kit's good, I assembled the hull last night. It's a pretty good fit - it helps that SR isn't a complete beast (unlike, say, a Valkyrie), though I'll need to do a little bit of filling. It's pretty obvious how it goes together, but the pics in hits_the_spot's gallery, or page 37 of his blog, help. If I have a niggle - and it is only a niggle - I would've liked the wing weapon mounts for the former turret guns to be part of the kit. But, they seem like an easy enough make.
Threadjack away, btw. Might have a couple of spare rhino doors, insofar as I'm mounting the hurricanes on my SR.
Oh, and I found my guard general - pesky thieving toddlers. I'll try to get pics of both that and the built SR up tonight.
Had a massive panic actually when I thought I might need to mount doors behind hurricanes but you don't, it's ok. Wings on, though engines had to come off again temporarily when I realised I had to cut a bit off - not obvious, though easy to do. Won't now be finished till Sunday probably as am off on a stag day tomorrow. Woo, etc. Beer, bewbs, etc. Quel joi. And then small children with inevitable hangover. Me, not them.
I'm really overwhelmed with the response to the obsidian. Thanks everyone.
Okay, so a pretty much built SR. I've not done the Lascannons under the wings, or added the gk iconography. I'll take better photos (ie less than usual rubbish) once that's done, along with PIP shots. Anyhoo:
Good sense of its general chunkiness.
I really like the clamp, but I like the coil that comes with the SR, so I shaved down the original grapple (which leaves with a cog outline; I imagine I'll sneak a bit of GK brass etch in there). I also had to shave a miniscule amount off the resin plate to make it match the lines of the tail, but it's a very small easy job indeed.
And a shot of the excellent interior detailing.
Overall I'm very impressed. Slight warping on side plate, but nothing like as bad as I'm used to from FW.
On the subject of FW:
Love this guy. I've wrapped a brass etch =I= round the back of the flag but pic was dreadful even by my standards.
A quick pip, as I've not been completely idle:
Coming along, I think. Colour scheme good for the =I=?
And finally, a query: which head looks better? You may recall I was trying to do a "Chaplain in Xeno Armour" from IA10 (executioner maybe?):
Can't decide which head I prefer! He'll be getting Chapterhouse ridged pads, and a Dante axe.
Also, 'Black Hole Sun' by Soundgarden. A good soundtrack, methinks.
Well that's fairly conclusive in favour of the 2nd head! I guess it emphasises that This Is A Chaplain. Funnily enough I only got it as an afterthought. Other head will look good on a Dragon Warrior champion or some such other base litter. Feeling a lot of love in the room for the SR - heck, even the wife and the 3 yr old approve! It is very butt heavy now, though, so may have it in landed mode, or weight the front of the stand (loathe to add weight into the front of the SR, don't want it splitting like a cheap chop shop number!)
I'll start with the apology: not been updated for a week because I'm back at work and new term's always a bit crazy. Timetable's ok this year but got some... challenging classes. Also, other part of this apology: it's only of a couple of models, though I've block-painted the red highlights on the rest of the figures. A-nyway...
I've added brass etch to the NDK's shoulders, finished the hammer (that I'll almost certainly never use) and generally tidied up a few things:
Not quite sold on the silver of the plates at the armpits, stiil looks untidy to me, but otherwise happy.
Like that pose. Mmm, angry.
Again, tidied up a bit.
And lastly a couple of detail shots to show the brass etch, and the obsidian effect on the hammer.
NDK-wise generally, I think the next one (yes, I'm planning the next one already) will be sword/double psycannon. That seems to be a suitably brutal loadout
And the Venerable dreadnought, who's currently swappable as a Psyfleman or a cc version. Tbh I think that I'm going to treat myself to a FW Mk4 though and affix the cc arms to that. This guy is pretty much done apart from the base.
I wonder whether the rear could do with a splash of red in there somewhere, mind. Still, pretty content.
So there we have it! This weekend I aim to get the base done on this guy and maybe - maybe - add some orange highlights, plus a bit of work on Purifiers and gs filling on the SR.
Off the FW =I= brass etch I've added a square plate to right shoulder and a GK icon to the left. TBH, you don't get much that's GK specific on the sprue, but it's still pretty darn good.
Good call on the back of the dread - I already added red to the top of the clamp, pre pic, but knew it wasn't quite enough. Glad the Flamer works for you btw! I'm all about the psyflame
Agreed, flamer's nice... My only question comes from the Dread head : it looks as if he's looking upwards, is that on purpose? Or just the angle of the shots?
And that mass of pic just confirms that the overall scheme is really efficient!!
Yup, dread is indeed looking up, I intended it that way; I was originally thinking about the TLAC like Hydra guns, tracking the skies. I'm still thinking about adding something to the NDK's shoulders, dunno though. Also the middle toe's have mould lines, bah.
I'm tempted - slightly - to get another Ven Dread rather than an FW one, actually. I have another Furioso Libby front and that worked well, don't know if it'll fit a ven dread torso though. Plus there's all the shiny goodness of a bits. Oh, bother.
In other news, got a cheap, badly painted LR with FW doors of interweb, which has now had a tune up and a respray. I've also done a test of Mk7>Crusade head which wasn't too bad I thought. Try to get a pic up tomorrow (hellish weekend, roll on work!)
Very nicely done graven. Both are looking really good. I think a little color of some sort would benefit the back of the dread, but it's not necessary. It's a war machine after all.
Why not have the =I= symbol on the back in red, it's central and has a definitive line? While I understand you have the pilots head pointing skyward, it does look a little out of place when the arm's aren't doing the same.
Though i am not really a fan of the dread knight, yours is the first that i have been really thrilled with. Jobs a good un. I especially like the drivers head. Nice.
Many thanks indeed, glad he does it for you. It tool me a while to wrap my head around what turned out to be a pretty easy job. Major Tom has been kind enough to sort me with enough furioso bits to do 2 more baby carrier fixes; challenge will be to get another Apothecary head.
Continuing the dread dilemma: I could get legs and torso from eBay for less than half the price of a Ven Dread. I have arms, feet and torso front in hand. Is that the smart choice?
Who - the NDK? Not really - I just painted, and added, the fw brass subsequently. I find it hard to visualise a model painted unless I build it first. As for the dread, it's just that I did an extra set of arms and now I'm itching to stick them on something.
Or there's the AoBR dread, which would probably be even cheaper, and there you'd have it- a torso and legs, with a front torso able to be added with some minor work here and there.
So, another week, but little to show for it I'm afraid; first full week back at work, texans invading, weekend wedding - crazy times. I've started various overdue gms projects - Njal and gitsplitta's weeping angels got their first ink washes pre White layering - and black washes for Conclave projects of a pre heresy BA and a star scorpion (Dark Star haven't forgotten yours though). #1 had some drybrushy fun for conclave with an Iron Hand, and we got his latest tank primed. I got my remaining GK tanks primed also, started work on GM Carnelian and generally shoved bits around the box. I did come up with a quick an' easy PAGK > TAGK psycannon conversion, which I'm pleased with.
I'm starting to think about a GK 1500 list, anti SM - halberds and psycannons, here we come! Pics tomorrow, hopefully.
Not been much to report on the Bloggit front; certainly nothing worth photographing. I have units of PAGK with halberds and falchions made up, but I really want to get basing done – and, tbh, painting also.
But, last night, I got a game of 1.5k, and I thought I’d share my thoughts on it, and get your views.
A bit of background. I was due to playing one of my close friends, who is as near to a hardcore 40k-er as I can imagine (multi tournament winner, as well as former Heavy metal painter); very competitive, exceptionally good strategist. He was going to be playing his current standard SM lists of termies and scouts, but for various reasons forgot it, so had asked me to throw together something for him. The only thing I had packed and ready was my old Mech Vet which I’ve really not played in over a year – it’s IG Mech Vet, it’s lethal, and it’s a little bit boring because it’s very very killy. Also, we’d had a discussion about the current tournament scene, and he’d said that in his opinion that it really was the army to beat just now; so, I thought I’d see how my GKs, unmodified from the build planned for vs SM, coped. If I forget anything in this, apologies.
We had a terrain objective back and centre each, with a building at each corner and a large central one. My original plan, of parking the dread and tech, and deep striking everything else, went out the window. Termies hunkered down in my objective, a combat strike with both psycannons in the centre, tech in back corner and rest in reserve. He had las team on nice high corner building, transports and bane down one flank, LRBTs down the other.
Strike squad achieved nothing, got wiped; tech shook a LRBTs but was about an inch off S10 range damage :( and took a cannon to the face for his trouble.
SR dropped interceptor behind bane wolf, which they hammered down, and the ven dread (and them got meltad out the sky) which sat and in 2 turns tore through 2 chimera, the Vulture and finished off the Bane wolf before dying to dedicated Melta.
Remaining strike combat squad deep struck and immobilised a LRBT, which had been nibbling at termies. Concentrated plasma took out remaining PAGK; termies ran out to incoming chimera, Melta bombed the sucka then hid back in objective for a 4 turn draw.
A few things became very, very apparent from this game:
Psyfleman dreadnoughts are a complete beast. Why would you not run them venerable, and in multiple? GK are ostensibly an assault army now, ven dreads are really your main ranged weapon platform. Still, to run 3, while perfectly feasible even at 1.5k, seems a little tedious.
TAGK are not completely rubbish; they are relatively hard to kill, all in all.
Grand master + Melta bomb = result.
SRs are a massive target. I knew this, but wonder if even the hurricanes are worth it, given how few chances you'll get to use them.
Techmarine I'm convinced is still useful with a C-Beamer. It fills a definite gap in the GK armoury.
GKs are just not mobile enough. For an assault army, they hardly ever get to assault. To the transports!
I'm really happy to have clawed a draw out of this. Part of me is smug that my mech vet is effective but, at the end of the day, it's not that hard to build a decent mech vet list. To have not been annihilated is to me far more impressive.
So there's my thoughts; make of them what you will.
Thanks for stopping by,
Later,
graven
I've given this a lot of thought and the short answer is - not much, at least in that scenario, with that list.
However:
1. I should've put the techmarine in cover with the termies, and reinforced it.
2. Held back the psycannons from the strike squads and dropped them into the rear armour of chimeras.
3. Sprinted the PAGK across the table to other objective; they would've drawn fire/direction of movement.
As for turn-by-turn decisions, I really wouldn't alter much; beyond the whims of the dice gods, I don't think things could've gone much more in my favour - for example, his lascannon team failed to achieve anything all game.
The question becomes how to do a viable, interesting assault list with GK.
I hope you weaned him properly on digital watches first. Jumping straight in at the smart-phone end of the menu can often be a bit harsh on the digestive system.
monkeytroll wrote:I hope you weaned him properly on digital watches first. Jumping straight in at the smart-phone end of the menu can often be a bit harsh on the digestive system.
Lol, love it!
And yeah we have lost a couple of phones to our first girl so we are currently using some cruddy old models till our newest is past the "I must chew and slobber on phone!" stage
Very cool - I had seen them, and smiled. Now I just need to think of something to do with them
So, the nice people at Apple gave me a new phone, hurrah. Part of me loves them, and part of me thinks, "This is my 4th iPhone 3Gs in 2 years. Something is amiss here." Clearly, I am a slave to fashion
In other news, the kids have been very hard work lately, especially the little one (hence why I am sitting down to do this 3 hrs later than anticipated). Added to that, I have a job interview coming up a week on Thursday, which will lead to a further slow down for the nonce, I fear. Anyway, enough of my excuses, on to some man dolls!
Firstly, a new offering for the pre-heresy swap by #1 son, who's not quite 4:
Not too shabby, methinks. Alas, grot tank "digga" suffered a fate worse than little brother, so is awaiting rekonstrukshun...
Been playing with some WM drudge mind slaves I had lying about, to make Arco-Flagellants; here's one of the four:
Obviously gs work on arm/wrists required, still, you get the idea.
I've been building PAGK & TAGK like a maniac, very close to having full army built at the very least. Not going to throw countless pics at you but here's a favourite:
Note daemon skull. A very silly idea, but one that I rather like.
What's a GK faction without a GM? Quite, and so, Grand Master Carnelian:
Personally, it's the clockwork melta bomb that makes it, for me That's a chapterhouse pad on the right, though not terribly obvious alas. He will also get DA helm wings on his back, eventually. I wonder whether I should've made him a psycannoner but tbh the incinerator just felt right and properly...
And having now played them, I think another Psyfleman is mandatory:
Tried to get a really dynamic pose on this one, and used aegis TLAC instead. Fairly happy with that, though might need a bit of boxing in. Obviously needs a shield or some such over the ba drop.
So there we are. There is other stuff done - a salvaged LR and the SR both primed, a home-made Solomon Lok and cyber-skull, etc, etc, but tis late, and am tired...
later, graven
Troublemaker! Actually having a hell of a time getting the wings to stay on. I'll think of something though. Thanks for comments chaps.
@monkeytroll: glad you like the imprint, like I say, daft
I should clarifying that the cyber skull's not homemade really but more a bodge to make a homemade toilet roll dispenser. Tomato purée tubes are awesome Wife out tonight, if kids settle I'll get a pic up.
Hola troops. Monkeytroll taunted me into these pics, but be warned, they are rubbish:
[/url]
I had this plan to make a Solomon Lok, using various bits. Thanks to djfranq for mr pointy's arm! Hopefully I'll get some paint on and he'll make sense.
Oh, and his wee friend:
Camera just can't get a fix on him, but you hopefully get the idea.
Incidentally, I got the wings to stay on GM Carnelian. No pic yet though.
A couple of folk had also asked for pics of the stormraven now it's been primed. Mabrothrax made a comment which was apparently if you google for pics of a built chapterhouse sr, mine comes up top - indeed, only! Somehow that makes me super chuffed. Anyway, photos:
And lastly, if I were an Ork...

whalemusic360, gitsplitta and myself are looking for 30 cyber-grots and 3 cyber squig hounds to join our mob for the waaaaaghdakka!
In short... build a cybered-up grot or squig hound, take a pic and upload it to waaaaagh dakka to join our mob! It'll be your personal little representative in the waaaagh.
What is the waaaaaaagh? How can you join in the fun?? Check this out!
If you're stuck for ideas for a cyber grot, then I recommend a chibi - all you need is a small pile of sm
Shoulder pads and a suitable head:
In other news, work's begun on NDK 2, which I'm considering running double psycannon/hammer, and basing on all remaining dudes. I have about half a dozen remaining unbuilt pagks, think I'll wait and look for holes as they play. Also discovered the magic of textured spray paint while being dragged around Homebase, so my realm of battle has now a satisfying coat and colour.
Ah well, onwards and upwards. Well, onwards, anyway.
Graven
It's a gw realm of battle board that I've added gravel, railway ballast and 28mm bricks too, then attacked with stone spray. Next stop will be to base my Sanctum Sororitas and other scenery likewise.
I've been building some ghost knights, might even get some pics up later. Little fella is still ill but might catch a break later - Tuesday is usually my geek night and the wife might take pity on me!
Mini-update: I have acquired 8 khorne berserkers and parts to make a serviceable trashed chaos dreadnought. So now YOU, my loyal minions, can nominate their DOOOOOOM (ahem) at the hands, blades or psychic mind bullets. Answers on a dakka card...
@MissDee: Sold. I'll do at least a couple as pre-heresy. I'm also planning on doing a night lord in your honour.
@Mabrothrax: yeah, that was my thought too. I'll also do a death guard for you, I suspect. Any chaos conversions hits would be outstanding (did you ever find those renegade militia btw?)
Any more suggests? There's going to be an iron warriors dread getting taken out by the NDK I suspect (now there's an excessive use of bits!) thanks to some legs from tipios.
Basically, I'm going to include refs to as many fellow dakkanauts that endure the Bloggit as I can I think of. I'd love your input on the matter of your chaotic allegiance!
Ok so far, via various means of communication, we have:
Miss Dee as Night Lord
Mabrothrax as Death Guard or Alpha Legion (your choice, naturally)
Erithromycin as World Eater
Tipios as Iron Warrior dreadnought (got the bits mate )
Farmboy as Emperor's Children
And suggesting...
Knightley as Knights of Blood
WarOne as pre-heresy World Eater
Gitsplitta as traitor Mantis Warrior

Any one else want in?
I'll have a look for some suitable dead Deathguard bits and send you a bag 'o crap.
Hey guys, you're both welcome to be plagues with necrotic entropy! Your takes on nurgle colour schemes are radically different anyway!
Automatically Appended Next Post: I should add that you've both been huge contributors, so I want to (dis)honour you as you see fit; Yggs, just wasn't sure if you wanted to be nurgley or tzeentchy; I'm totally going to raid my BA bits for yours. Also, gitsplitta will be a tzeentchy boy!
Work has started on tipios's dead dread, and I'm plotting other manners of death. If you wish to nominate death by dread, pagk or tagk, do say.
That's a feast full of beware putting fruit near Mabrothrax though, he makes dirty jam.
Had a plan to do stuff this evening. Failed as #2 son decided that, rather than sleeping, 3 hours of screaming interspersed with vomiting on daddy was preferable. Talk about chaos undivided...
However, that gave me time to think (see below) and an hour to finish building NDK 2 and 2 FWGK dreads (argh! acronyms!), at least in the main.
Sacrificial Minions
Tipios as Iron Warrior dreadnought, death by NDK. Possibly big wormy thing emerging...
Gitsplitta as Tzeentchy Mantis Warrior, death by dread Assault Cannon.
Erithromycin as World Eater berserker, axe compulsory, death by psycannon. Might build a dh/psycannon brother captain just to kill him.
At the hands of Paladins:
Miss Dee as Night Lord
Mabrothrax as Death Guard
Farmboy as Emperor's Children
Knightley as Knights of Blood
WarOne as pre-heresy World Eater
Yggrdrasil as variant Death Guard
More thoughts:
BLACKHAND as Blackhand
Whalemusic360 - Noise Marine maybe? No idea how to construct that mind you!
Lord Kaiser II - a slaaneshi ultrasmurf, presumably?!
Bash the Bosh - khorne csm would seem aposite.
Other regulars,
ReaperMan2020
Briancj
DarkStarSabre
Revenant Reiko
Monkeytroll
(And any other notable followers I've forgotten...)
Berserkers, for now at least.
I'm not going to say I follow any particular God of Chaos , but if I did, it certainly wouldn't be those dirty Khorne Flakes, those unclean Slanneshi things, or those disturbingly dirty Nurgle guys. Uncle Nurgle touched me inappropriately, once.
Hey graven, as the slot isn't taken yet, an Alpha Legionnaire would be fine for variations...
And my modelling keeps flailing from Traitor to Loyalist, so I guess that fits in too
So Yggs, if your squad-mates didn't think you were a bit strange for playing with toy soldiers, what did they make of you making funny shapes with rations?
I'm more of a Slaaneshi guy tbh, but as long as I've got an implant of some kind l'll follow anyone
I got gk dread arms today, so going to make an assault cannon tonight from the psycannon which may or may not resemble a Gatling psilencer... assuming kids settle I'm going through all my chaos bits tonight.
Anyway now we are at:
Minions
Tipios as Iron Warrior dreadnought, death by NDK
Gitsplitta as Tzeentchy Mantis Warrior, death by dread Assault Cannon.
Erithromycin as World Eater berserker, axe compulsory, death by psycannon.
Miss Dee as Night Lord
Mabrothrax as Death Guard
Farmboy as Emperor's Children
Knightley as Knights of Blood
WarOne as pre-heresy World Eater
Yggrdrasil as Alpha Legion
Briancj - Tzeentch marine, I'm thinking feathers...
Monkeytroll - slaaneshi marine. Bewbs and that.
BLACKHAND as a Blackhand
Whalemusic360 - Noise Marine maybe?
Lord Kaiser II - a slaaneshi ultrasmurf, presumably?!
Bash the Bosh - khorne berseker
Other regulars and lurkers still to shout out:

Slightly concerned that I may have bitten off more than I can chew - gonna need to get me some bits, especially of gods other than Khorne. Shucks.
Damn! Knew i should read this at work and just take the weird looks (its one of those offices.....)!!
If its not too much trouble graven, ill take a Thousand Sons spot if theres one going spare?
Ill have a look at my meagre supplies to see if ive got anything going, but if you PM me your addy, ill buy some bits and get em sent up to you (thats right, after over 2 months of work, i finally got paid! ).
Folks, I'm touched, truly I wasn't grovelling for parts (though, hey, I'm not gonna refuse!) Bits wise, all and anything - reasonably ok for backpacks, arms and Khorne bits, but other stuff (Slaanesh/Tzeentch bits esp) in short supply. eBay lot of legs fell through, rather cross about that.
Thrilled actually with how folk are liking this - course now I have to do it justice.
GiraffeX, I'll add you to the list; Reiko, 1kSons you be.
Started on torsos last night, I'll get some pics up later hopefully. List now stands at: Tipios as Iron Warrior dreadnought, death by NDK Gitsplitta as Tzeentchy Mantis Warrior, death by dread Assault Cannon - Torso/head/pack done but in need of bullet-riddling Erithromycin as Dragon Warrior, axe compulsory, death by psycannon - Torso/head/pack done BLACKHAND as a Blackhand - Torso/head/pack done Briancj - Tzeentch sorceror - Torso/head/pack done Yggrdrasil as Alpha Legion - Torso/head/pack done
Metropolis as possesed (really need legs for this!) Revenant Reiko as Thousand son Miss Dee as Night Lord Mabrothrax as Death Guard Farmboy as Emperor's Children Knightley as Knights of Blood WarOne as pre-heresy World Eater DarkStarSabre: Extinction angel Monkeytroll - slaaneshi marine. Bewbs and that. Whalemusic360 - Fallen Angel Lord Kaiser II - a slaaneshi ultrasmurf, presumably?! Bash the Bosh - khorne berseker
Other regulars and lurkers still to shout out: ReaperMan2020 GiraffeX
Extinction Angel matey. Sorry for the silence, busy busy few days off.

I'll have a nose around my magic box. However am so skint. So so skint.
@DSS: Plan. I have BA bits out the wazoo. Might have a tiny, tiny, death-of-rats scale scythe somewhere, even. You're in.
@Yggs: that'd be outstanding, monsieur
Also, I found a metal chaos pad whilst rummaging, it's like an eye with 3 lightning bolts descending from it; anyone know what chapter that is, or is it just chaotica generica?
Believe the metal pad is a generic one. Does it have an eye though? Might be a fancy Black Legion if it has an eye, or if it's a Skull it's probably Iron Warriors.
Hey graven, I can send you some MW spefic bits if you need them... at least a shoulder pad if you want. Kind of depends on what era of MW you've decided to model.
@DSS - Black Legion indeed, I think, anyway. Cheers mate! Found an awesome Scythe for you, btw.
@gits - well, have a look at the wee fella and see what you think
Before we get on to pics (I know, I know), a statutory list revision:
Tipios as Iron Warrior dreadnought, death by NDK
Gitsplitta as Tzeentchy Mantis Warrior, death by dread Assault Cannon - Torso/head/pack done but in need of bullet-riddling
Erithromycin as Dragon Warrior, axe compulsory, death by psycannon - Torso/head/pack done
BLACKHAND as a Blackhand - Torso/head/pack done
Briancj - Tzeentch sorceror - Torso/head/pack done
Yggrdrasil as Alpha Legion - Torso/head/pack done
Knightley as Knights of Blood - Torso/head/pack done
Whalemusic360 - Fallen Angel - Torso/head/pack done
Farmboy as Emperor's Children - Torso/head/pack done - although, I realise I've done a MeanGreenStompa version (SG heads rather than BA heads)
Metropolis as possesed
Revenant Reiko as Thousand son
Miss Dee as Night Lord
Mabrothrax as Death Guard
WarOne as pre-heresy World Eater
DarkStarSabre: Extinction angel
Monkeytroll - slaaneshi marine.
Lord Kaiser II - a slaaneshi ultrasmurf, presumably?!
Bash the Bosh - khorne berseker
GiraffeX - Black Knight Black Legion maybe?
ReaperMan2020 - Something deathy
Ok, ok, pics:
The second NDK. He's missing a hand, because he's getting the hammer from the other one, who'll get a sword (or not - I seem to have misplaced it ) with Tipios at his feet:
On to various minions:
The renegades/highly suspect heretics - Knightley, BLACKHAND, and WhaleMusic360
Farmboy (though I might swap this for a pretty boy head)
erithromycin (though I might swap this for a more standard Khorne Berseker)
Gitsplitta
Yggdrasil
Briancj
Everyone's looking left...
In other news, here's the FWGK Mk4 Dread with AC:
An update on the Grand Master:
Justicar Thawn (see, he's got an anvil )
And some Ghost Knights, using NDK shields, cos dey is Knights, see?
@gits: yup courtesy of the might Blackhand. Pad'd be good, assuming you like him and that.
@tipios: glad you approve - I love the feet, just one of those "I have no idea if this'll work, but I'll give it a shot" and turned out rather well. I'm less sold on the torso cover, and wonder whether I should have the exhaust block at the back between the NDK legs instead. Also, I look forward to my imminent death...
Oh if you are in need of a Thousand Sons head let me know. I got one in a lot I won off ebay that I cant separate from the body, its wielded on I'm sure so if you fancy a challenge its yours.
Its funny tipios mentioned about using Grey Knights parts for his base I've just ordered a Grey Knight head to go on my World Eater rhino I'm doing at the moment.
tipios wrote:Thats so cool! I like the way you've done mt feet I'm gona have to get revenge when I get back from holiday, and have my dreadlord splating a GK
Love the feet too... I hadn't even noticed until you pointed it out : it just looks natural, I guess...

The central barrel's hollow, it's just not obvious from that angle; it's ven dread ac barrel on a psycannon. And there's nothing remotely inadequate about the size of his weapon
Mabrothrax wrote:
This is cool. Simple, sexy. Have you considered adding armorcast cinematics?
Cheers bud. Worked better than I'd expected tbh, even having done a mock up with a spare. I quite like the idea of a smoking barrel, but that's a bit silly
Yggdrasil wrote:Love the feet too... I hadn't even noticed until you pointed it out : it just looks natural, I guess...
Yeah - the dread hands were just a good fit, and I really like the way they're sort of curling in.

Huzzah, and pm'd, and lmk if you want any GK bits.
tipios wrote:We trustin you
Fools. I will destroy you.
This has also, inadvertently, provided a solution to something that I couldn't resolve: how to base my Stormraven. With the chapterhouse conversion kit, it's a bit unbalanced. Whilst trawling ebay for bits (not much luck) however, I stumbled over dead tanks and that got me thinking: how about using a Battlescape for the base, with the SR skimming the tops of the stunted trees. Is this a bonkers idea, or rather nifty? Or both ?
Gitsplitta wrote:Drill the gun barrels. That's the psycannon arm with an autocannon attached right? Impressive... if a bit Freudian.

True, but if the other barrels aren't drilled the shells will have a very short trip from the back of them to the closed front where they will detonate and shred your cute little dreddy's arm to pieces. Drill the barrels.
Yes boss, sorry boss...
Barrels now drilled. Also took the opportunity to add a couple of holes to its victim, the traitorous MW. I got all excited yesterday when I saw a jiffy bag on the doormat, only to find it was some ribbon the wife ordered *sigh* shall have to exercise some patience I guess!
A scenic base would be cool for the Storm Raven..... even more room for dead traitors lol. It would look great and give the base some much needed weight so it doesnt topple the Storm Raven
Or for trees and lots of flames a la napalming the enemy with holy fire
Guys, you are completely awesome. Here's where we are; bear in mind that some needs don't take into account bits I've been sent (pesky bloody post office)
Generally, needs are unsurprising: legs and torso backs. But, entire csms do overwhelm the base somewhat, so equally I have to be careful. Biker legs, regular or chaos, would be especially handy as they're at an unusual angle; raptor or assault marine legs likewise, though I doubt that's gonna happen!
I'm also planning on indicating the name of the originator, either inked on in full or Brass etched initials if name doesn't quite fit. If you have any other suggestions/requests in that regard, lmk.
Minions
Tipios as Iron Warrior dreadnought, death by NDK - done. Yeah baby.
Gitsplitta as Tzeentchy Mantis Warrior, death by dread Assault: NEED legs of some variety
Erithromycin as Dragon Warrior - missing arms/legs, though more from indecision than anything else. Currently being trampled underfoot by new Brother Captain.
BLACKHAND as a Blackhand - Mostly done. Need to make a fancy pants bolter. NEED: imperial fist pad or icon (eg from land speeder).
Briancj - Tzeentch sorcerer - as he's HUGE I'm still putting him on a Dread base, the flamer one. Going to use a warding stave (pointless blooming things) as a staff for him. plans to make armour accessories for him using a standard one and scibor bits. Going to lose his current head and replace with a 1k son one.
Yggrdrasil as Alpha Legion, missing limbs currently, though planned; think this guy's going on Karamazov's base.
Knightley as Knights of Blood - done! Death by Paladin. I'll get a pic up ASAP.
Whalemusic360 - Fallen Angel - NEED a DA pad. Missing limbs; I'm thinking about trying to make some empty robes.
Hmm.
MeanGreenStompa as Flawless host - Missing limbs, possibly going to stay that way as I quite fancy making him just utterly severed.
Farmboy as Emperor's Children terminator, death by Psyfleman - he's using gk and sslyth parts, so that's been an interesting build. NEED termie shoulder pads.
Metropolis as possesed - Khornate aiming for almost stereotypical devil look. NEED legs/head.
The Glass Ninja as Khorne Berserker - he's requested a chainsword, death by termie, carved up as he had his appendix out this week. How can I possibly refuse?!
Revenant Reiko as Thousand son with Scibor bits don't know his fate but I suspect a glorious, intricate helm decorating a paladin base.
Miss Dee as Night Lord - featuring a small Lego bat, I suspect. Possibly death by incinerator.
Mabrothrax as Death Guard - I'm planning to scratch build a lot of this guy. Death by paladin, probably. I quite like the idea that he's dissolving into goo...
WarOne as pre-heresy World Eater - still head scratching but I think he's going on the base of the other Psyfleman, using one of the resin inserts from the basing kit.
DarkStarSabre as Extinction angel - I have a great arm for this guy off a Cryx soul hunter. Probably another paladin vic. NEED well the da vet techmarine pad would be awesome if anyone's got one.
Monkeytroll as a Noise Marine - going to make a sonic blaster of sorts out of a dread plasma cannon, I think. Beyond that, I'm stumped.
Dante XV as khornate tank commander, on the base of SR. This will either be a battlescape or just a trashed rhino. Considering having the SR actually ON the Rhino (which will be numbered XV. )
Lord Kaiser II - a slaaneshi corrupt ultrasmurf. I'm still working out what to do here, as I'd like him quite regular looking. I'm considering cutting down the front of a breast plate and adding, well, a breast on an otherwise regular looking SM. But might look very silly. Death by paladin.
Bash the Bosh as Dragon Warrior dread on base of NDK 1 - yes, it's built already, but it's entirely appropriate and he provided a number of the bits, so double score there!
GiraffeX as Black Legion. Dismembered, I think is the way forward. An arm and a head. Maybe a wolf pelt. I'd really like to give him a long blue tongue, too.
ReaperMan2020 as Something deathy?
All your thoughts, appreciated as always.
In other news, I really need to get back into painting. Before I do the above, gms figs must I feel take preference. Oh I am utterly behind! I've also added some priming on to scenery, and promptly ran out of spray.
Not to moan, but I've not had more than 4hrs sleep in over a month, along with a somewhat rubbish time at work, and I'm really feeling fried. This mini-project, and your unflinching support, has given me such a massive boost you have no idea. Thanks peeps,
Later, graven.
Doh! I only sent torso fronts, assuming you had enough loyalist SM's to make up. Did get some legs in there though, including biker. Now I've seen your needs I may send a couple more items out.
Ach, it's just my fault for being less organised than I should be. On the plus side, I did just find 3 chaos warriors to use as =][= henchmen. Not relevant, but useful, especially if I cam find 3 plasma guns. No, no, bed now...
inmygravenimage wrote:GiraffeX as Black Legion. Dismembered, I think is the way forward. An arm and a head. Maybe a wolf pelt. I'd really like to give him a long blue tongue, too.
Long blue tongue!!!! sounds cool
My parcel has been a bit delayed and will be posted tomorrow, its got a Thousand Sons head, Khorne Berserker head, plasma pistol arm, Daemonette arm and I think a few other small bits
Oooo shame the noise marine has gone already... Um. How about a Red Corsair?
I was going to post your gms marine tomorrow, but I will see what I've got in the bits box first as I did have a load of chaos bits laying around that are of no use to me
@miss dee: @ image of head in bag...
@gits: it's ok, khorne berseker legs have proved adaptable
On the subject of berserkers, their torso backs can serve, I realise, in a pinch.
Endtransmission, consider yourself a Corsair!
Sorry if I'm being slow to reply, or am missing things. Mea culpa. Covered in exorcist levels of vomit again tonight, so minimal progress and no pics. A few folk are now attached to bases, though my glue has now solidified. Will try, try, try tomorrow for some forward motion. Onwards, if not upwards,
graven
inmygravenimage wrote:giraffex I haven't forgotten, just not a chance to rummage yet.
That's ok, I'm not really after any bits at the moment.
Well that's very kind of you, though the offer's there. I got your excellent bits package, along with that of monkeytroll. Eventually, I'll get some corpses done!
I've still got one of your quasi-nurgle heads, and someone else (apologies, I forget who) is throwing a fist pad my way. Any stray chaos bits appreciated because I'm a thieving rat.
I'm railing against the fact that I have almost no time between kids and work, and am struggling to get photos up. I'm thinking that, in the interim, I could do phone wip pics. Any suggestions of how best to upload them (I keep meaning to mention in nuts&bolts a facility to upload photos straight from phone - or is there a way?) eg make a private folder on Facebook or flickr or something?
A little thankyou update: I got a big pile o' stuff today, including night lord heads, fist pads, beasties and more. You guys are officially awesome. No modelling done as another trip with kid to doctor's. Ah, Wednesdays. It's not a trough, it's a peak.
Cheers mate. Seems happy enough, but still not sleeping great - which inevitably wakes his big brother, leading to the 3am sardine tin. Still, off work next week so even if sleep is minimal I at least don't have to function normally.
I'm going to try - really, I am - to get pics up tomorrow. Wife is caking so I'll be skivvy, but I'll be fiddling with the camera anyway. Fingers and more crossed!
I was wrong, half 3 :( Apologies for feeling sorry for myself gang, and taking it out on y'all. Anyway, they have neither work nor nursery today, so are having a lie-in, so... pictures! Now I warn you in advance that these pictures are rubbish, even by my standards, as they're a rush job, but you hopefully at least get the sense of some of what's happening. Actually, I'm a liar - pics will go up later - kids now up - but they are in my gallery. Later!
Automatically Appended Next Post: O-Kay, where was I?
briancj sorcerer v Gk dread: Planning on using the flamey possessed arm through the GKs legs and a 1k son head.
Yggdrasil's Alpha Legion v Karamazov Debating putting a little snake on the base, too, but it's quite busy just now as it is. BTW, finecast Karamazov - a thing of beauty. Still a bit of beast to assemble, though.
Gitsplitta's Tzeentchy MW: Hopefully despite rubbish photo you can see some of the damage, including the burst chest cable. That hole goes all the way through. I intend to use GK falchions and some scibor-y bits, too.
MeanGreenStompa's Flawless host: There's the other half of that berserker leg! Silly, but I like.
Knightley's Knight of Blood: Yes, this one's a bit extravagant in size, but hey, I don't do tourneys anyway.Oh how I like those multi-part berseker legs.
Last up: erithromycin's Dragon Warrior vs Brother Captain - Flash demonstrates quite how heinous the mold lines on that box of TAGK were.
So, hopefully, despite low quality images, you can see finally some progress has been made. Thanks again to all of you who've contributed stuff to fuel the evil fires of my imagination.
Cool work I can't wait to see how you are going to depict me at the feet of one of your Grey Knights! On another note we don't have kids yet and I must say with a lot of our friends having them and the horror stories the wife and I keep hearing we are starting to get a little alarm bell ringing in the back of our heads! When we asked one friend to describe parenthood he said, "In one word, Relentless!"
Grand! I think skulls will feature heavily for you.
@gits: thanks bud!
Little guy is gradually on the mend but my lack of sleep is leaving me slightly demented. Or rather, more so.
I realise I forgot to put a pic of the torso of farmboy's pretty purple Emperor's Children termie:
This is going on the base of the rifleman with the serpent tail on already, as he's doing his termies with sslyth tails.
Wife is a cakeasaurus, she does loads for family and friends alike - doing a bewb cake for her brother's birthday tomorrow just now. One vanilla bewb, one chocolate bewb. If only life were like that...
Hey folks,
So owing to the novelty of sleep (woo!) I feel astoundingly human today. I've added some new pics, and also there's now a list of all Chaos legions - this is as much so I can keep track as anything else!
I was moaning to the wife that I haven't painted in anything in 2 months, and she commented that I've been building and spraying, so I'm going to stop whingeing and show y'all some pics.

So if there's a legion not yet taken, and you fancy it, lmk! More generally, C&C as ever appreciated!
Wow, those are really cool. I'm looking forwards to your interpretation of the Chaos Mantis (Horned Locust) and the other corpses. It's quite an inspired idea to look for volunteers to become the victims of your GK.

That an offer? what do you fancy being?
Gitsplitta wrote:Cool beans graven... nice work mate! You *have* been busy...
Gracias amigo. It doesn't really feel like much progress, oddly. Onwards, nonetheless!
Quality idea there from the lady!
@ Gathering Storm: I'm thinking thunder barons? Khorne loving, amulet hunting madmen. With sodding great hammers, clearly. Also storm-thunder fits, no?
Say.... if you're still taking volunteers to be mutilated chaos boyz, I don't reckon I could be represented by a dwoned Angle of Ecstasy? And some drug juice/ feathers wouldn't hurt either...
Thanks for your encouragement folks. Some more progress has been made - Miss Dee done after flash of inspiration, giraffex's head with fabulous tongue, claw for monkeytroll and even some PAINT on a couple of weeping angels for Gitsplitta and Njal the Weatherman for the gms which are very, very overdue. I've also made up a new tub of basing grit - dull, but be necessary - to go towards the priming of the bodies...
Angels of Ecstasy (pink- black trim, slaanesh, angular slaanesh mark) - Lord Kaesar II
Angels of Flame(???)
Apocalypse Company(black-green flame, c/u?)
Apostles of MinthRas (red-metal trim, c/u, black skull)

World Eaters (blood red, khorne, world in a fanged maw) -
And a few dodgy pics to boot:
Horns for the Horned Locust (former Mantis Warrior)
A couple of views of the Night Lord - can't decide which way up I prefer, though the sword kindly offered by Miss Dee may resolve that:
Some bits for the Black Legion for giraffex, who I think is going to be a pile of severed parts:
And WM360's Fallen Angel (I can't believe I have a whole SM on this base. That messes with my head).
The shoulder pad's just a maybe, depending on what WM360 has winging my way! Not sure about the bolter, does it work?
I did a detail shot, which vaguely shows the great big hole in his chest, but it was pretty rubbish, so I won't bore you with it.
^ I agree on all counts. Miss Dee will be slightly less nut-blasting though. Also, simply by virtue of balance, WM's left is more under the thigh, though I've remodelled the thumb accordingly; I've swapped the right arm for an outstretched one with hand flamer, which looks far better. L'il ones are generally sleeping rather more, indeed, thank goodness (waits for Fate to slap me with a large fish...)
Since my primary "Black Legion" is already spoken for I would quite happily be slain as a World Eater if you would have me my second choice going to The Purge
Keep up the awesome work! I didn't think I would ever say that about slain chaos warriors
Logg_frogg, I really appreciate that you think my meanderings are awesome. The World is yours to Eat! Even though I think a frog themed nurgle csm would be cool... Dear old papa nurgle actually seems woefully underrepresented just now, come to think of it. Hmm.
Not much new to report - debating swapping WM's other arm a power fist, gs'd some wings onto the skull on Miss Dee's Noght Lord, bout all really. I'm going to try to get some basing materials on to all done so far to date. I am working on a complex trade just now for a Defiler, which is partly for bits but also for a project I've had planned for... oh, years really, but have never been able to justify. Like I need another distraction!
Quick late update:
Had kids all day, herself doing work stuff, got an hour ish at end there to do some odds and ends, might update before work (boooooo!) tomorrow.
Status (brief!)
Progress:
Fallen Angel remodelled again - possibly move, on apothecary base? Would they take the gene seed from one?
Cabling etc on Violator
Thunder Baron built
Angel of Ecstasy built
Work on Extinction Angel pad
Black Legion built
In bits:
Skulltaker
Extinction Angel
Thousand Sons
Still to start:
Red Corsair
World Eater
Word Bearer
[Khorne Possesesd]
Dark Wolves
Death guard
Looking good there. Also, I shall return the favour of you having a mutilated Thunder Baron represent me. Choose a Loyalist Space Marine Chapter and I'll turn it into my Dark Mechanicus "Experiments" (lovely cabling and Chaos Iconography).
Mentor legion, my friend. Go team owl! Sounds cool, btw. The thunder baron has certainly had experiments on him, too. I tried a totally random idea, and it really worked. Pics later assuming kids bed down ok.

Glad you approve
Another day, another excuse not to prepare for an interview.
So...
You'll notice this batch of terminators have the worse case mould lines ever. Truly, truly shocking. Anyway, I'm much happier with the Fallen Angel on the base of this guy. And for some reason, in my head, beakies always have power fists (it's no RTB1, but still), so this arm loadout feels better, too.
Angel of Ecstasy - minus back detail (repaired shortly).
More pics later guys, need to make some food,

Glad you like amigo. That was actually v3 of the sonic weapon - after a hk tube one & a really odd attempt made from a chimera dozer piston - figured that I owed the conversion king something special Scythe is from a Cryx Soul Hunter, a relic of my former gaming days. I think I need to thin out the gs haft a little on the pad. I'll also try another version with the pad from WM360.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh and expect to see more corpse cabling
Ahh, Cryx was my first guess, then I decided it looked more Rackhamesque, not enough peforated metal
HK and dozer piston are both good bases to go with those chaos weapon heads. And that makes it sound like me too, trying a variety of different weapons to get the right one. I also like he way he looks as though he's only mildly perturbed by being halved. "Ok, so that'll slow me down a bit I guess. On the other hand I've got an excuse to get those Robianno 13" Slim-line robo-heels fitted. They're just so lush."
Have you tried making a handle for the pad scythe out of wire?
^ Laughed so hard wife wanted me to explain that.
...
Joke failed to translate well :(
Corpse cabling will appear on many of these guys, though I might mix it up with a variety of gauges of wire - and, yeah, will try that on handle. Yeah, it is quite rackham esque, actually. Loved confrontation, hated to part with mine (still got a tarascus!) but dirz make excellent dark eldar gribblies to the right buyer.
Anyone would think that gw took advantage of their demise to blatant rip sculpts.
Oh, now I have to make a marine in power-heels, I have just the parts to make it outrageous
If I'd only known that earlier when I made a bits order, I'd have got some pwetty-boy BA heads
Yeah, I liked the dirze stuff, never really picked much of it up, but have a bunch of the 'wolfen' (I've forgotten their real moniker), destined someday to become part of my slaaneshi beastmen.
They look fantastic, Graven. That Violator is just brilliant, with that amazing Psnoiser which ties model together, and I think the way that you have connected the weapon to the marine is rather clever.
Now, the Thunder Baron! It looks brilliant. It's as though he was ripped apart before being finished off by the GK. Nice use of cabling and neat posing have created a rather cool model.
And thanks to that one of the Chaos Lord bodies I'm getting in the post (soon) - yes, it was me who bought the metal CSM bodies! - will clearly have to be done with a scythe.

Love Wolfen, some staggering sculpts there. Might have a spare pretty boy head left, I'll have a rummage.

Thanks mate. Glad folk are digging the psilencer, I think I love that's it basically so simple a conversion. Glad thunder baron gets your approval; there's no colour scheme for them that I find, any thoughts? I was thinking maybe a reversed khorne, black with red and copper details maybe?

tipios wrote:Back from my hols!! and I see the ongoing kill list is looking great. Now I need to get down to killing some GK's
Charming glad Korea/family fun was had.
@ Miss Dee got the arm. Lush.
Wife's in the bake zone tonight so might get odds and/or ends done. Glad you're enjoying my demented output!
Things have been hectic here, and I've had the kids most of the weekend thanks to Cakezilla, but despite just being back from kiddie hallowe'en party, some pics notwithstanding. You might notice that some basing has also occured: all previous done figs have got basing grit.
A bit of progress on my Sanctum Sororitas. Yes, it's on a cake board. It's going to get a spray of the magic stone (the base, that is), same as the RoB. Or, possible, I'll leave the floral-y detailing exposed, at least internally. Thoughts?
I was too lazy to take proper photos. sue me...
Slight rejig of a couple of models; better view of cake board: Black Legion
...and Night Lord (that's one nice arm, btw!)
And some work on Reiko's 1k son: Yes, flash, yaddayaddayadda...
Skulltaker, struggled to get a remotely decent pic.
Death Guard for mabrothrax (now here's a random assemblage of bits): Might graft a weapon of some sort on to the end of that limb.
Which means I have an Extinction Angel (who now has a Mk7 hoodie, but not a photo) to finish, and to start a World Eater and a Soul Drinker (glass ninja being indecisive again). Oh, and something Khorney for Metropolis too.
Thanks for all support gang. Apologies if I forget to thanks you directly - WM360, I got those pads, muchas gracias! - mad times combined with about to hit the single most hectic month of my work and home life (3 parents' nights, 2 late night teachers' sessions, 4 family birthdays, much coursework to teach, xmas shopping, thanksgiving, and NO chances to get to my games club :( ) so I hope to even remotely sustain what I've done so far!
In other news, I have Forgeworld promo boarding marine, was going to do him as an Ordo Malleus - but what to pair up the hammer with?
I am also trying to sort out a Defiler for making a steampunk spider tank a la Wild Wild West. Debating ork or empire - thoughts?
Some nice work here once again. Also, I made some progress on the corrupted Mentor Legion marine (Nurgleth themed) that I was painting and modelling as thanks for my Thunder Baron! I'll post some pics in my P&M thread tomorrow.
whalemusic360 wrote:Interesting that the Blackhand pad has now almost made it one full rotation of the planet Hope they are useful.
I know going to try a gs experiment with for an astral claws pad, actually: using liquid gs in a thin layer and adding the lightning bolt detail while wet.

Thanks mate. Don't be daft - family, etc.
Knightley wrote:Looking great man, estimated time to paint?
Ah, well. Now there's a question. I'm aiming to have all corpses built first. But I am determined to get stuff done.
It's been a pretty hellish week and there's no respite till Monday, certainly.
I have managed to get the soul drinker and (bar one arm) extinction angel done. I've started to assemble parts for the red corsair - the raw muscle possessed and white lion pelts - and world eater (khorney). I have also been working on the Sanctum, adding rubble etc. need to track down a cannoness to be a broken statue. Planning on doing a csm corpse in there too, possibly/also a crashed biker as bit of terrain.
So everything's in the garage, ready to get sprayed. I'll get the last couple done, add some apothecary pouches to the Flawless Host csm (knew of forgotten something), though unlikely to get done soon alas. More cake, birthdays all weekend - hell, I'm looking forward to Monday...
Hey Ho troops, thanks for tuning in and listing to my whining
Graven
I have seen a beautiful Ork walker using the defiler kit, they put a large 'aft' deck on the back, and it ended up looking like a giant spider, just beautiful. So, Orks work with the legs VERY well.
Well, I'm dizzy from fumes, but it's all sprayed bar the builds I completed the other day and tonight's efforts: Red Corsair, World Eater and Khornate possessed. I have enough bits left to make 4 more csm and a biker so onwards to the future!
Mad month continues; it's my #1 son's birthday tomorrow, so further craziness.
My sanctum Sororitas continues to frustrate me as it won't stay on the base. I'm considering using polyfilla (spackle to you colonials) to make it adhere and create further rubble. The glass ninja's offered me some sob bits to accessorise, and going to use one of the double-sided pieces from the imperial bastion as a door. Sure I have another somewhere but damned if I can find it.
In a break from other programming (because I'm out of spray) I thought I should catch up on some very overdue gms projects. Cue obligatory rubbish photos.
First up, Weeping angel chapter master for Njal the Weatherman. It's to be a counts as Lamenter cm (essentially Dante minus pack):
Blade is going to have the obsidian effect I think. Needs eye and gem effects done but, getting there.
Also, a dw weeping angel for gitsplitta:
I love how the really high gloss black contrasts with the rest of the fig. Yay Vallejo!
And a side project for my gk list, a silly idea that I just fancied doing for an Ordo Malleus:
Silly? Or cool?
I shall attemp to restore normal service ASAP,
Later (ish),
Graven
You asked me to put a link to my blog earlier: here it is. The blurry picture is near the bottom of the page, and I'll try to add a newer, with better lighting and resolution, picture soon.
Good to catch up on this. Although for Daemon hunters they don't have many Daemon corpses on the bases. Or do you think they explode into a shower of ectoplasm?
@ briancj: Ta! Yeah, what better to do with a desirable, hard to get model than chop it up a bit?!
@ Gathering storm: good one mate. Would that be your legitimate beer-swilling birthday coming up by any chance?
@llamahead: likewise mate. Funny you should mention lack of corpses, see earlier on the csm front; also, I have an entire box of bloodletters coming from a trade that I'm intending to adorn PAGK bases with.
Also, comment from kid at birthday party to me: "Your socks are on inside out. Are you sure you're a grown up?"
inmygravenimage wrote:@ Gathering storm: good one mate. Would that be your legitimate beer-swilling birthday coming up by any chance?
Sadly no, still got just over 365 days until that day. Ah well, that means I have plenty of time to get my full Chaos Daemons force painted up for our future match against your Hunters of their kind!
I have to say I'm really enjoying a spot of painting again, and the joy of the Weeping Angels is that they're pretty quick to do, at least at a basic level - and part of the issue is time/mess vs small folk.
Don't get me wrong, I love the mentors dearly BUT I'm genuinely considering painting up my standard marines all as Weeping Angels rather than mentors. This is despite all the work press moulding pads and cutting off blood drops from things! I'm just sick of seeing such a vast horde of umpainted figs before me; I'd like to have an actual painted army for once. I have a fair few blood drop pads left over from my ba battleforce that I kitbashed into gk (yes, yes, further ironies) but I'd need to raid bits stores too.
