Well, TBH it's rather "laziness" than "loss of memory"... I also didn't paint the scroll on its backpack, but from a distance... You wouldn't tell !

Ok, then done !! Thanks !
One of my friends suggested that I should weather them with light, metal chips, rather than the dark, brown dents used here...
What do you think of that ?!

Ice always gets on my case for those fiddly bits. "You didn't paint that pouch. You didn't paint that insignia, that holster, blah blah. You didn't paint the lower half of the model..." I say, if they wanted you to paint all of it they wouldn't put it on there...
Brown and red tend to look really close to me, so the brown chips don't totally work for me. Maybe silver, maybe grey. It's called ceremite, right? So, to me I think sometimes these guys are running around wearing concrete or super pottery. Like, if you have ever seen the "They call him, Jeyne!" episode of Firefly, where dudes are dredging mud to make super hard ceramics.

Yeah, stronger might not be the word, but forward it is !!!
Speaking of moving forward, few results in those last days, but I still haven't given up yet !!
A Baal Predator, only the sponsons done... Still unsure about the armament in the turret, but I'm leaning more and more towards the Flamestorm Cannon - if I want a TL- AC, a Razorback is cheaper AND with Transport 6, isn't it ?!
The next "test" footsloggers... Plasma cannon Marine, and a Death Company Marine... Next up the painting range !!!
Until next time,

Always fun to start a new project! I like where you're headed with this guy, but I can't help thinking one more highlight would really put him over the top. Not necessarily over the whole model, but head, backpack, arms at least. But maybe that would put the "time on one model" over what you want?
Keep up the good work!

Hey, thanks ! I might indeed try another highlight - I agree with you, it's a bit too subtle for tabletop standards !
Thanks for the advice !!!
I'm already taking a break from my BAs as the Grey Knights I had built last summer were taunting me from their shelf...
So I painted their first squad !
At first I hesitated between "rusting" them or not :
Then I decided I liked the rusty effect, so here's the whole squad :
I'm now building a Terminator Squad, and a Librarian, which will push that small force to 500 pts !
Last thing I'm not sure about is what options to give to the Librarian :
- A : Soul Glaive + Combi-Melta
- B : ML3 + Storm Bolter
What do you guys think ?

Thanks Gits, I was quite scared the rust pigments would ruin all the paint job !
Also thank about the "powered" parts, it looks a bit too... "cartoonish" to me ? But nice overall

Well, I had thought about magnetizing, but could spare the time required....
Thanks about the GK, should only be 500pts to play with !! A second squad, Terminators this time, is on the way...
But in between, I've been distracted by all those parts I had carefully chosen when assembling my Blood Angels... It deals with a Chalice, Blood, and purple...

Thanks bebop !!! Only white part is the wing though, and I've had quite some practice with the whites in my DA army hey hey
whalemusic360 wrote:That looks pretty great. Are you doing a force of them, or just he one off?
Thanks mate ! No it's just a one-off, I have had that idea for a while ever since I've read the Soul Drinker books... And digging in my BA bits made all the "chalice" details stand out and yell at me
So just one Sergeant is all I need !
I'll be going back to the Grey Knights, then BA, as soon as this one is over...
Still pondering on my GK Librarian... ML3 + Stormbolter, or (Relic of Titan) "Soulglaive" (a Nemesis Halberd that grants some re-rolls) + Combi-melta ?

Nice drinker! Are you going to be using your librarian as support or in the thick of cc? I think that's going to make your decision between the two options. Me, I always preferred the support option, as there's so many other places to spend points in a GK force.

Well, thanks Sam, your advice helped ! As I only intend to build a 500-pts force, the Librarian WILL have to get his hands dirty ! So Soulglaive it is !
As for his squad, they're built too !
Stormwall wrote:That is a sexy purple. You nailed that chapter to a tee.
Thanks ! The books are truly inspiring, so I have little credit

Well, maybe not yet... At least, he might be a Soul Drinker BEFORE their fall - or ascension ?
Gitsplitta wrote:Really great job on the soul drinker. The red and purple are ab fab!
Thanks Gits ! I'm thinking about pushing the highlights a bit more though... Especially on those two colours !!
Only thing I'm still wondering is what colour I should use for the power axe... At first I was thinking green, but now I'm tempted by orange/yellow... Or should I do the "regular" blue/turquoise ?

On second thought, I should have seized the opportunity of this single model to try out the new "Martian Soil" (or however it's called) Technical paint, it would have been much more in line with the enmity between the AdMech and the Soul Drinkers...

Thanks Guys ! TBH that's Duncan "GW" Rhodes's "How to paint a Blood Angel" technique - available from their YouTube channel !
Mainly that's Mephiston Red (praise to the GW spray can !), a wash of Gryphonne Sepia, then some edge highlighting of Evil Sunz Scarlet, then Wild Rider Red, and voilĂ !
Sadly I have to "ruin" it all with some sponge weathering

Nothing much to report except I moved to a new house (with a dedicated "workshop" and I took my major competitive exam for the Army (results in August)...
Modeling-wise, here are the new additions :
- I finished my first BA squad (fits in a Razorback) :

Thank you Azazelx ! Sentinel's still a bit lonely for now, that's sad...
Solar_Lion : something that really got me excited lately is the new iPad "Deathwatch" game... Far from perfect, but I'm having a lot of fun with my Kill Team ! So of course, what I can't get off from my mind is the insidious idea of building "just a small DW squad" !!
Anyone has a great idea rule wise to represent a Deathwatch Kill-Team ? As for now I've only thought of Sternguard, Command Squad or even a Reclusiam Command Squad ?
Anyone has hints on the "Tyrannic War Veterans" Dataslate ? If the rules are worth it, I could afford the 6.50$, but I'm afraid they're not far from "regular" Sternguards... Any experience with them?

He'll be equipped with Frag Cannon and Power Fist, but I intend to model it with the larger "claws" rather than the shorter "digits" of the usual PF... Do you think that's a problem ?
Also, I didn't get any reply about the Tyrannic War Veterans : anyone know whether they'd make good Deathwatch Kill Teams, rule wise ?
Thanks in advance

I wouldn't bother with the Tyrannic War Veterans Dataslate if you don't plan on using the St-Tylus Formation.
The vets are sub-par Sternguards (i.e.: only have access to Hellfire rounds, no specials/heavies, Sergeant can only take Meltabombs) with PE (Tyrannid). Unless you regurlarly play against Nidzilla kind of lists, there is no point in taking those, sadly.

inmygravenimage wrote:He is seriously creepy! Great freehand btw.
Thanks mate !!! Here are the final pics :
The first freehand I've been satisfied with, considering my lacking skills in that specific field
For those who remember, he dates back from 2009 (yeah that's quite a long time ago) : he was my first real attempt at sculpting with GS ! And I had always postponed painting him for fear of not doing the sculpt justice (value's relative uh) !
Oh, and during my short, two-week holiday, I also got to work on some more Blood Angels !
Of those 6 "Death Company" Marines, there were at first only five...
But I liked that one so much :
That I thought he looked more like a Captain ! So here I am with new, insane ideas : making him the Captain of 8th Coy, and with that he should get a JP Command Squad, as well as an Assault Squad in DP !!
I now have to buy another Blood Angels Tac squad for those 10 additional Marines
Hope you're all doing fine !!!
(On a side note, I passed the first, written part of my competitive exam... So I now have to prepare of the oral part at the end of September ! That's both a blessing and a curse, for I'll have to leave my models asked for a while... )
Until next time !

Hey guys !
I know I haven't been there for quite some time, but RL really got in the way lately, so I didn't have much time nor inspiration to settle down & focus on my beloved models...
Anyway, thanks to Gitsplitta, I was spurred to make a quick collage of what I had painted in 2015...
As you can see, it's not so much, and most of it has already been posted here, but I'm quite proud of them so, hey
I also didn't get all the latest fun stuff from GW (Deathwatch, plastic 30k, etc...) so I don't really know where to start again...
Finish my 6 TDA Grey Knights ? My Blood Angels ? My Dark Angels Assault Marines & Bikers ?
So much to do, and so little time to spare....
I sincerely hope you're all doing fine in your respective lives !

Yeah I read the whole Omnibus, and although I found a lot of weak parts in the book, I did enjoy their "choose your destiny" approach on things !
And some BA parts, with all the chalices, were just begging to be converted into one model so hey

Ha ! Silver Tower got me excited indeed (especially considering my previous Tzeentchian works), but I'm afraid I'd have other boxes to buy before that one, like Deathwatch & Calth !
But hey, who knows...

Well, a whole model in purple was fun, but the edge highlights were a PITA, so I honestly can't see myself painting an army of them ! Thanks though
As for what's next, I've committed yesterday to a painting competition in my FLGS, with the theme being "vehicle or monster", so I ended up choosing (from what he had in store) something that I've always wanted to buy...
As they both don't go into BA or DA armies, this is the perfect opportunity to get back to my Star Phantoms project, which has never been past a Space Marine trade & a single Command Rhino !
I think the paint scheme is striking enough to be able to get myself a place in Top 3...
See what I did on the Rhino below :
