Your painting competition entry is Gorgeous. Without a doubt you were the clear winner to my eye. One dcm complained that your darks and brights were too dynamic on the cloak, but for that very reason i prefer your model. In the end its just about personal taste when models are equally matched. Congrats, Well Deserved.

Well... Now that you pointed that specific part out, I cannot help but specifically agree with you... I might try to clip & gouge dents in it before painting...
Thanks WM

Hey, thanks a lot !!
I guess you're right about "personal taste", it has shown on the 5-5 result with the "public votes" ! I guess the store manager had the right personal taste

No update (yet) as it's 8am, but just wanted to share that awesome piece of new artwork from the Clan Raukaan supplement :
Spoiler:
It almost looks like a film snapshot, and is much more realistic than the usual GW artworks... It's a big win in my book, I wish we'll see more of that kind in the future !!
You can almost picture the moment where the Dread will turn to face the pinned Eldar & unleash hell on them with its rotating barrels.... I love it !!
Wow that pic is intense! Thanks for sharing. It seems to have a bit of GI Joe syndrome though. Everyone's shooting and nobody's hitting each other. Still great, though.
Moltar wrote:Wow that pic is intense! Thanks for sharing. It seems to have a bit of GI Joe syndrome though. Everyone's shooting and nobody's hitting each other. Still great, though.
Lol, haven't seen the movie, but I think I get what you mean
IceAngel wrote:Wow, that is a great shot. Where did you find it Yggs if you didn't purchase the Clan Raukaan supplement?
It's part of the "preview" shot released by the Black Library... Great, uh?!?
Gitsplitta wrote:No rush Yggs. After all the years you waited for my mini... I figure you have an indefinite time period to get back to me.
I have painted the soil on the craters, took me about one hour... Should look great !
As for now, I'm just pondering whether I should paint them in my army's colours, or in my regular opponent's
So that leaves me with :
- Imperial Fists or Slaaneshi Pinky ;
- Night Stalkers' camouflage ;
- Or my future Star Phantoms' ones... (that's the one I'm leaning towards... )
Craters look really good, especially for only painting for about an hour. I say have fun and go for the Star Phantoms. As per above, I was actually referring more to the old 80's cartoons
Side note: I gave you a full response with pics in my Everliving blog, but it got auto appended, so you probably missed it but definitely not a big deal.

Craters look good.. I go with IF as well . That way you can use them in HH games if your into that.
Nice picture..so much movement. Something GW doesn't do very often or well. Hate that all this digital stuff isn't supported by hard copies. Not everyone owns a IPad!.

You can buy the supplements in standard old PDF version now, you know this right
I'm still totally loving your Tau! :-) and well done on the win dude! job deserved! both were good but the care you took with the blending even though it was airbrushed is stand out! your base compliments the job as well without distracting the viewer! stand tall and be totally proud! wallow in your win!
GiraffeX wrote:They are looking nice I'd say go with one of your regular opponent's, Imperial Fists?
I think it would be funny to remind the enemy whats going to happen to their tanks
Yeah that was the point at first... But I'm not sure I could pull that off ! (not used to painting yellow...)
But it'd be a good laugh during a game

Same for me, I don't have an iPad... Though I have to admit, I plan on asking that for Xmas MOSTLY for the GW digital products.... colour me *fanboy*

Thanks nerdy !!! I did enjoy the win
And the Tau are on a small hiatus for now... Next up are the Kroots !!!
Yeah, it was quite simple (though I put some thought into it beforehands ) :
- paint white ;
- use some masking tape to leave only a stripe visible ;
- apply some liquid mask with blister foam ;
- airbrush on top of everything ;
- remove tape, then brush off the liquid mask ;
- voilĂ !
Things I've learnt :
- The masking tape should be large enough, that the airbrush doesn't spray paint outside of it (see the brown paint on the downmost steps on the door ) ;
- The masking tape should be neatly applied, so that no paint can get under it (see the subdued "halo" on the right of the stripe, under the skull ; it also doesn't look strictly straight, but a bit bent... ) ;
- It would probably look better if the stripe was less "weathered", which means I should be less heavy on the liquid mask.
Mate it looks great. Going to be an awesome looking raider.
Quick question...how did you find the liquid mask to use? I know you were using primarily for damage, but how do you think it would go for say masking off a shoulder pad or something like that?
Nashbashem wrote:Just been through your blog and all your work is amazing My favourite stuff is probably the Chaos Marines. Looking forward to more of your work

I think it should be fine... Maybe a little hard to apply properly "along the lines", but I'm pretty sure it could be done...
Though for shoulder pads, I've also tried once with bluetac, and it worked fine !

Thanks again for the positive comments
The stripe looks good, I had never heard of "liquid mask" before. Is there a particular brand you use, and is that it's actual name? I quite like that look
I've been using blue painter's tape for straight edges when airbrushing. It has worked very well for most colors, except pink... which I think the pink I have been using is just thinner than my other paints and is thus seeping under the edge a bit. Maybe masking tape is just as good, though
San76 wrote:Cheers mate, I've struggled getting the blu tac to work...maybe I'll give the liquid mask a go. Also of course, to copyyour weathering technique!

Well, the problem I had was that I hadn't cut the tape really straight, so it shows a bit on the stripe... Not a big deal, but hey

Aside from wishing a Merry Xmas to all of you (for those I haven't already), I just have to mention that my new Xmas toy, an iPad, allowed me to buy the Kill Team rules, and... They're definitely awesome !!!!
The price is a bit steep, but the rules are really fun !
We played a game with my friend Denis this morning, and it was fast-paced, intense, and we had some good laugh !
So that was a 200pts battle of Plague Marines vs. some Tau.
He fielded :
- 1 Rhino ;
- 5 Plague Marines : 1x Champion with Power Sword, 1x Meltagun, 1x Flamer.
I had :
- 6 Fire Warriors : 1x pulse rifle, 5x pulse carbines ;
- 6 Pathfinders + 1 Recon Drone : 1x Shas'ui, 2x rail rifles, 1x Ion rifle
So 6 strong, tough models against 12 frail fishmen with advanced tech and their drone !
Battlefield had large buildings, one in each corner and a huge relay station at the center.
The battle lasted 6 turns, and each turn yielded its fair share of heroic actions, disappointements, lucky FNP rolls !!!
MVM (Most Valuable Models) :
- Tau : a Pathfinder Specialist with Rail Rifle & the "Ignore Cover" USR, who killed the Plague Champion and the Meltagunner ;
- CSM : a stock Plague Marine, who survived the whole battle despite being fired upon each and every Tau turn, killed 2 Pathfinders with its Bolt Pistol (the ones he had planned to assault) AND last-turn seized an objective.
As for points :
- He got First Blood (a Fire Warrior killed at long range by the Aspiring Champion and its bolter during the first turn) and one objective, so 4 points ;
- I got Slay the Leader, Linebreaker, Force Broken (killed half his models), and 2 objectives, so 9 points.
TAU FTW !!!
I'll try and upload a few pics as soon as I have some time
I war reading the Killzone stuff and you're supposed to be able to get that on an iphone (which I have) but I haven't been able to find it on iTunes in order to download it. Sounds like a blast and something my kids would really enjoy.
Solar_lion wrote:Love me some "KIllzone" It reminds me of back in the day of playing RT. Where every game objective was to kill everything. Ahhhh Memories!
I boarded the train during 2nd Ed., so I don't really remember the RT days... But hey, 2nd Ed. was all about killing stuff too

It's in the "iBooks store" on my iPad... in the Games Workshop Digital Editions store ...
Congrats on winning the Kill Teams game! The craters look great.
Also, I want to thank you for being an inspiration for my Tau I changed the color scheme again (silly of me), but I loved your weathering technique so much I had to use it myself!

Oh, and since I haven't pointed it out in my earlier post : the game was pretty fast to play !
Only 2 hours, without setup, but with a complimentary explanation of the Kill Team special rules to my sparring partner... So once you know the rules, I guess you can count no more than 3 hours for setup + game + cleaning up !!
Your kids, yourself AND YOUR WIFE will like Kill Team

Lucarikx
Hey thanks !!!
Are the results up for show on your Plog ?
In addition, Denis & I have settled on our new Hobb-jective (see what I did there ? ) : Build & Paint a complete Kill Team for March !
That leaves me open to a lot of options... 200 points for almost any army is like 5 to 20 models, so I can just go crazy on them...
Here's what I thought of so far :
- Night Lords Raptors ;
- Nurgle Renegades (with IG rules) ;
- Ork Kommandos ;
- Tau Stealt Suits ;
- Space Wolves (Like Thunderwolf, Lone Wolf, Wolf Guard) ;
- Pre-Heresy Iron Hands
Well, I'm not THAT into the Custodian Guard's aesthetics... Plus, what set of rules could I use ???
And Kill Team doesn't allow for 2+ armour saves, while I'm sure they all have "Artificer Armour"
But of course, I had forgotten to mention my yet-to-live Star Phantoms !! That's of course another possibility (and the new SM books allows for Grav Guns, which would be terrific in Kill Teams )
Lucarikx wrote:Maybe a Crisis suit squad? Or... if you do Night Lords, you could do Talos and First Claw from the ADB books.
Lucarikx
Well that's an option too... I'm really fond of First Claw (though I've yet to read part 2 & 3 of the trilogy, Soul Hunter and a few BL short stories really set my mind on fire !!! )
Ok, so here's what I'm thinking for the first list :
Star Phantom Sternguards, 200pts :
6 Sternguards :
- Vet Sgt ;
- Heavy Flamer ;
- Heavy Bolter (Specialist : Relentless) ;
- Combi-plasma ;
- Combi-melta ;
- No-upgrade Marine.
That leaves me with 18 points to spare... As the Sternguards already have their "Special Issue Ammo", I'm thinking about adding an assault weapon to the Sergeant...
Lightning Claw seems great so far, as he'll get no additional attack from the Boltgun anyway, so it's better than a Power Sword for the same price, and Kill Team prevents 2+ armour saves, so I shouldn't need the AP2 Axe...
What do you guys think ? LC, or something else ? (I could also drop the 6th Marine which would leave me 40 points to spare for the Sergeant )
Also, still undecided on what Specialist traits I want for my two other skills... Any suggestion ?
Well, a Heavy Flamer can be pretty useful in small scale games, as it allows you to avoid a "To Hit" roll.... And in Kill Team, every dice roll you can avoid is the way to success !
Plus, he'll be pretty scary and will probably create a bubble of "I don't want to come close, so let's shoot at him" - which the rest of the team should handle pretty well
As for the Specialist, you cannot have twice the same skill, or even take 2 skills from the same "skill tree", so another Heavy weapon would be tough to handle well... Except for a HFlamer !
Gitsplitta wrote: I love Kill Team. Only played it once but it was a blast.
Yeah, today I had my second game of Kill Team, and it definitely IS a blast !!
A quick Batrep of the first battle (Plague Marines vs. Tau) We play the first mission of the Kill Team supplement. Basically, that's "shoot, engage, capture" We deploy 24" from each other, and I use my Scout movements to get better firing positions (in buildings mostly) . I get to play first.
The 3 objectives are in a diagonal line : 1 in his building on the top-left, 1 in the central building, 1 in my building on the right.
Kill Teams :
Tau (The Rising Sun) : 6 Fire Warriors (one with Pulse Rifle), 6 Pathfinders (Shas'ui = Leader, 2 Rail Rifles, 1 Ion Rifle), 1 Recon Drone.
Plague Marines : 5 Plague Marines (Champion w/ Power Sword = Leader, Meltagun, Flamer), Rhino.
Tau deployment : My Pathfinders with Marker lights are on each flank, with the center held by the Fire Warriors. Left flank has a Ion Rifle & Rail Rifle, right flank has Recon Drone (sporting a Burst Cannon) & a Rail Rifle).
Plague Marine deployment : My opponent chooses to only embark his special weapons inside the Rhino, the other 3 Plague Marines go on foot.
TURN 1
(Pics show the start of the Tau Turn)
Tau : My heavy weapons (Ion rifle & Rail Rifle) on the left each take 1HP off the Rhino, and that's pretty much it. The rest of my Kill Team shoot at the Marines, but FNP is too strong, despite my 3 markerlights finding their mark.
CSM : He gets "First Blood" with his Plague Champion that snipes a lone Fire Warrior with his boltgun. My Recon Drone loses 1W due to bolter fire on the right.
TURN 2
Tau : The Ion Rifle removes the last HP of the Rhino, and gets a "Crew Shaken" result (meh). The left Rail Rifle kills the Meltagunner that disembarks from the wreck (far less meh).
CSM : All move forward, shooting does nothing.
TURN 3
Tau : My left Rail Rifle kills the Plague Champion in cover (good thing the Pathfinder's skill was "Ignore Cover" ). I get "Slay the Leader" and "Break the Force" (3 models destroyed out of 6). Two Fire Warriors leave the cover of their building, and cross the no man's land in order to capture the objective on the left.
CSM : Due to some bad positioning on my part, the Plague Flamer manages to catch two FW with his flamer ! Luckily, his wounding throw yields a "double 1", so no Tau gets harmed.
TURN 4
Tau : The Recon Drone (barely) kills the Flamer-toting Marine. My left flank completely secured, my heavy weapons climb down to support their comrades on the right !
CSM : The two Marines on the right, having survived unscathed their trek across the battlefield, come into charge range of my right flank. Before charging, his Marine shoots his Bolt Pistol at a Pathfinder on the first floor, and.... kills it, preventing him from charging ! Still a kill though (and a Markerlight down for me :( )
TURNS 5 & 6
Tau : I capture Objectives Left & Middle. My Recon Drone jetpacks to his deployment zone to score "Linebreaker"
CSM : The Plague Marine in the street shoots at my Rail Rifle on the right with his Bolt Pistol (again), and I forget that he was my Tau was the Stealth Specialist ! As a consequence, even with Going to Ground, he dies punctured by a mass-reactive shell. Pistolier Plague Marine doesn't get to charge again ! In the last turn, nothing prevents him from seizing the objective.
Results : Objectives : Tau 2 / Plague Marines 1
Secondary Objectives : Tau "Slay the leader", "Line Breaker", "Force Broken" / Plague Marine "First Blood".
Total : Tau 9 / Plague Marines 4 !!!
That was a lot of fun to play, with lots of heroism, failed attempts, epic fails. We both had our lucky strokes (I think I hit 9 times out of 10 markerlight shots, he passed more than half his FNP rolls), and our bad luck !
Things we learned :
- JetPack models are insanely fast & flexible (the infamous "jump-shoot-jump" ;
- Codex entries with a lot of heavy / special weapons (Tau Pathfinders, Plague Marines) give a huge advantage in Kill Team (Sternguards, DE "Elite" Kabalites, Nobz, should perform nicely) ;
- Vehicles may have their uses, but are a huge point sink on 200pts, even the humble Rhino ;
- It's easy to forget about Specialist Skills, even if there are only three of them !
- Table should be loaded with scenery to make for an even more awesome game
We liked it so much that we played another game today, 1 versus 2.... Interested in a few pics ?
GiraffeX wrote:You could give the sarge FNP to help him survive in combat if his luck runs out.
Kill Team leaders do not get a Skill... But they get a special "Warlord" trait
Well, admittedly, one of the "warlord trait" is a Specialist Skill... But you cannot count on that !
STC_LogisEngine wrote:Or the Heavy Flamer trooper, since he's probably going to attract a lot of incomming lead n' lazors.
Hey, that might be a good idea, actually ! But FNP & Relentless are in the same "Skill Tree", sadly And I think that the HB needs Relentless more than the other one needs FNP
Sounds wonderfully fun. Played my first game with Thing 1 this afternoon, have another game with Thing 2 scheduled for tonight. I'll take pics. Good Lord you should see the army he picked.

I had never thought about playing kill team like that. I suppose it's a way you can play it.
Well, we had a re-match today. Different mission. I hid, then my half of turn 1 shot the Hive Guard to pieces. That evened things up quite a bit. From that point on it was a really good, interesting game. Hive Guard is just a game breaker... usually killing 1-2 marines every turn, doesn't need LOS, from the center of the table he can hit everything. Hard to take that when you only have 8 to start with.

Young Logan
Well, me neither... But I guess if you can take 30 gaunts, you might as well go overboard and spam lasguns too ? I'm pretty sure you'll see some random hateboys screaming about how "Kill Team iz broken - I can haz a horde of Guards" anytime soon Thanks

How can it kill more than 1 Marine a time ? What is his weapon ? No LOS seems pretty unfair for Kill Team indeed, where you want to use a lot of scenery to get cover, flank the enemy, etc...
And, even killed, you still had to deal with 30 gaunts.... Not that easy uh !
He gets two shots per turn, S8, doesn't need LOS and as a specialist with the split fire ability... he could go after 2 marines at the same time. My mistake though... I thought he was AP3 when he's only really AP4. Makes a big difference.
The 30 gaunts ended up finishing off all but one of my marines. We were both broken but had both forgotten about the break rolls, that might have given me a slight advantage over time. I managed to fail 5 consecutive saving throws in 1 turn (3 marines, 2 scout bikes), so I went from a comfortable situation to running for the hills, trying to save my last bike.
Well, that is... if you REMEMBER the fact the "Force Broken" rule for a start
[Edit : I'll repost my thoughts on the new Tyranids here :
I restrained from the rumours for this release, so I had high expectations for this release !
And... I'm mildly disappointed by the new models, sadly...
Talks about Haruspex / Exocrine had my memories of Epic come to the fore, so even though I knew they probably do a "rebuild", I think they just look like upscaled Biovores :(
The Flyers are quite 2-dimensional, and they don't seem to be able to ever land (no small talons ? Come on), while their head just look like another Carnifex.
As for the Guards, I do like their new guns, but I preferred the old version :
Spoiler:
Until I see them "IRL", I'm not really psyched about them... Too bad !
Luckily, I just aquired & painted two of the old Hive Guard for Thing 2 for Christmas... so I don't have to worry about that. I haven't seen great pictures of the new models. If one of the big ones has good playing possibilities I can see actually taking my time and doing one as a birthday gift or something... but the Nids have never spoken to me as models, so to my eye... one is much like any other.

Well, I'm sure the new monsters offer some welcome flexibility to a Tyranid Army (FMC other than a Winged Tyrant ? Yes please ), so that won't be a worry lol... Lucky you about the old Hive Guards too !
Okay, still no time for the second Kill Team batrep, so I'll just show you the table... And the setting : since we were 3, we played with 2 Kill Teams per side : my friends had Plague Marine & Dark Eldar teams, while I took two squads from my Night Stalkers (DA) army, and turned them into commandos. One Tactical Squad acting as a garrison, and a Ravenwing Attack Squadron as the rescue team !
As you can see, I've painted three other tiles to go along my Armies on Parade board... What do you guys think of them ?
As for the WIP, I've eventually finished the Rhino / Land Raider craters ! So here they are, in the test colours of the future Star Phantoms
Rhino crater, before sponge weathering & scorching :
Rhino crater, finished :
Land Raider crater, finished :
As for what's next, I'm still undecided... I have my Tau army to continue (there's one Broadside, 10 Kroots & 3 Stealth Suits waiting to get done ), my Star Phantoms Kill Team to begin, and I'd seriously like to start building some scenery... I've got more than my share of WH40k buildings on sprues, including a Fortress of Redemption, and I received yesterday a Fortified Manor & Chapel for WFB, that I intend to use as bases for a Mordheim battlefield...
Yup thats an awesome bit o terrain yggs!! Nice work. Looks like fun to play on Kill team seems fun. Is it?? So many ideas bounce around that are unrealistic for full sized armies but seems like kill team is just right for em!

Its nice from both a game standpoint and modeling standpoint.
Games take an hour or less (maybe not if you did giant blobs and your opponent did too), and have a nice tempo.
Modeling and painting, you can dip your toes into armies before going full blast, or build multiple armies, without much issue. You can also give each model a ton of attention, as most armies have ~7-14 models.
Thanks Matt I might have put too much work on them (like, weathering the decals, or the Devastator symbol on the blasted doors, but hey ! )

Thanks for the table, and YEAH KILL TEAM IS FUN !!!
As you & WM mentioned, that's the perfect format to give life to your craziest conversion / paint schemes ideas, as you only have to repeat it on less than 15 models ! And it plays more quickly (though WM's "1Hour" seems a bit short to me, especially if you include the preparation... But yeah that's quick !

Yes indeed, as it's my first battleground, I'm especially proud of it... Now I'm pondering whether to add more "blended in", fixed scenery or not (trenches, buildings, wrecks, etc... )
Thank you guys for the kind words ! It means a lot !
Solar_lion wrote:I like the fact that they have actual debris in the crater. More realism. Nice Job!.
Well, that was the point actually : to use the craters as additional scenery when someone scored an "Explosion" result on the vehicle damage chart... But, speaking about realism, there would be much more debris (many?) if a real vehicle exploded I just ain't ready (yet) to sacrifice a complete Rhino or Land Raider to serve as a wreck
inmygravenimage wrote:Lovely, lovely boards! really should finish mine
Yeah you should ! The GWRoB boards are quite simple to paint... It only took me 3-4 hours for the remaining three 24x24" boards !

Thanks Art... Still got power in there ?
Dr H wrote:Nice variation to your mud/dirt tones and good work on the battered and scratched tank pieces.
I tried to keep it simple to be able to do it again easily... So that's 4 actual-range colours from GW : Dryad, Gorthor, Baneblade, Ushabti ! Thanks !
**************************************
Update time : I continued working on scenery.... Here are a few WIP shots !
Still not done yet, I still have add seven Nurglings to the piece to play it as a part of the Garden of Nurgle !
I'm also considering two things :
- turn one of the craters into a "pond" or "puddle", with GW's water (so that the Nurglings can squabble and play and bathe ) ;
- add OSL to the "eyes" of the trees, to further the daemonic feel...
What do you think about those ?
Also, tomorrow I'm spending my day off on a 6000pts-per-side Apocalypse game... The Night Stalkers will be defending a Huuuuuuge fortress, alongside some Imperial Fists, a Stormlord and a Shadowsword, against 2 Stompas, a Lord of Skulls, a Warhound and their associated hordes !
I'll post pics of the gigantic table my friend Denis has been working on tirelessly for years... It was worth the wait !
Wish me luck
Sounds like your going to be having lots of fun tomorrow, lots of pics are a must and of course good luck.
What's this about the trees having eyes, never new that but then I haven't seen that piece of scenery up real close, I like the idea of nurglings playing in a crater pool.
Foreword : I had written a reply on my iPad, which for no reason got "erased" when I jumped back on the page for a copy/paste So quicker answers, from my computer now !

Nashbashem wrote:Wished my board looked as good as that
"Looking good" isn't really hard, as far as painting terrain goes... But yeah, he did put a lot of effort in the BUILDING of his awesome table !
*****************************************
But first, le'ts go back to Kill Team !
Here are a few pics that I had promised you, taken during the second battle (2x200pts on each side : Tac squad & RW Attack Squadron vs. Plague Marines & DE).
The "chaotic" team had to punch through the Marines lines on the far end of the pic below, and gained victory points if escaping through the opposite table edge. Marines gained VPs by killing (easier said than done).
I deployed my Tactical Marines in pairs, trying to cover every escape route, while my Ravenwing reinforcements were Outflanking. Tac Sergeant & One Marine acted as a mobile reserve by deploying inside their Rhino.
(Lascannons are scenery only )
First shot of the battle : a Plasma Cannon takes out a Plague Marine & a Reaver (yeah !)
Turn 2 : 4 out of 5 Bikers arrive from the reserves (on the same flank) and start firing at the DE Heavy weapons Kabalites ! (Yeah, once again, one Plasma gunner dies to its own gun).
Other important moments :
- One Plague Marine gets away while his comrade bogs the Marines in the trenches :
- Both Sergeants come to the rescue of one of their tactical brothers : Plague Marines are beast in HtH !
- An especially tense (& funny) moment : one Marine leaves his cover to try & intercept the last Reaver ; he double taps, wounds, but the Reaver passes his cover save, and manages to escape on the following turn !
- My favourite moment : a RW specialist with Furious Charge assaults the Plague Champion, and kills it just with the Hammer of Wrath hit !!!
Things learned :
- In that battle, the Plague Marines would have been better off with a Rhino ;
- The DE & Plague Marines had all the tools to negate my bikers' extra endurance : they both had ranged (DE) & HtH (PM) poisoned weapons, thus denying me the advantage of the bikers.
- DE heavy weapons, some being Assault 4 / Heavy 6, are really nasty in Kill Team...
That's about all for that battle folks !
As for Apoc, I'll leave you with a few pics... They speak for themselves !
My Tau reinforcing the Imperial gunline... And they did kill a bunch of Orks & Plague Marines !
It was an apocalypse game. You bring whatever you have and throw it on the board. The game looked awesome! Do you have any close ups of those snow camo super heavies?
Doesn't one of your buddies make a snow board or was that just for the display?
Gitsplitta wrote:So... one of the players took allies? A little confused how marines, chaos and DE got on the table all at once.
Was that a standard mission or did you make up your own?
Love the rhino.
No, there were 3 players (did I forget to mention that ?), so Denis took his 200pts Plague Marines Kill Team, while Renault had his 200pts DE Kill Team. I, facing them, had 2 Kill Teams that added up to 400pts.
As for the mission, it was mission 4 from Kill Team : Infiltrate the Camp !
And thanks.

I think he was asking about the Kill Team game...
I may have more pics, but I'm struggling with my iPad cloud (still new to that, so... I'm learning )
Denis did indeed build a snowy display board for Armies on Parade, but he so loved it that he decided that all his board would be covered in snow !

I need to go back and read through all of this when I have the time, but what I've seen so far is looking very nice. It's probably covered somewhere in these pages, but where are you stationed at (I'm assuming somewhere in the middle east)? I'm stuck out in Saudi Arabia myself, which is why I have so much free time to work on models lol!

Ok, let's hope the following pics are up to it ! Thanks !
Since the Command Rhino, I haven't been as much in the Hobby as I'd have wanted to...
But I did get a few things done !
Here it goes :
1. DAEMONS !!!
I got to work on a Plaguebearer squad. Test model :
I tried the new "Technical" range on them (Blood & Verdigris paints) - not very fond of them
Squad :
It tooks me a single day for the test model, and another one for the rest of the squad ! I definitely broke the ceiling with painting speed on those ones
Flamers : (totally airbrushed, I wanted them done quickly...)
2. KILL TEAM !!!
My friend Denis & I challenged each other to paint a complete Kill Team for the 31st of March, with the prize a Space Marine Drop Pod... He chose a Deathwatch squad (counts as Sternguard) and I went for JP Death Company. As it turned out, I was way too ambitious with the details, and they proved tedious to paint properly !
A "few" WIP pics (spoilered for post's size) :
Spoiler:
Here's the final pic (you can zoom in the gallery, pic is quite huge) :
3. KROOTS !!!
Ok so nothing fancy, but just to prove I went back to my Tau project...
(Test model on the front )
4. GAMES !!!
Played a few games in those months, mainly Kill Team... And a regular game of Night Stalkers vs. Nurgle Marines...
A few highlights :
- January, Kill-Team, Tau vs. Plague Marines :
Tau Pathfinders investigate a Nurgling-infested battlefield...
Spoiler:
... While Fire Warriors use the cover of a Rhino wreck to reach the central objective (the access hatch) :
Spoiler:
The Plague Marine in the trench fires at the fearful Tau in cover, and then...
Spoiler:
(Yeah, it definitely Got Hot )
In the end, victory was seized by the Plague Marines as a flamer specialist burned through the Tau and claimed the objective !
Spoiler:
- A scenario game, 1500pts Nurgle Marines vs. Night Stalkers (DA counts-as) :
No pic uploaded, and a minor victory for the Night Stalkers, but a huge blast when Typhus & Belial got in a challenge mid-table : Belial harmed Typhus down to 1 wound, and the Herald of Nurgle killed him outright (rolling a 6 on his Daemon Force Scythe for additional attacks)... And was then "rewarded" by the Gods of Chaos and turned into a...
(Yeah, you got it. Into a Chaos Spawn ! )
- Two quick Kill-Team games with our new Kill Teams last week :
Both games were pretty straightforward : in the first, my four Marines managed to get in contact quickly, thus avoiding the worst of the Sternguard shooting (and some critical FNP rolls for me also helped) :
Spoiler:
Notice the Dakka dice
Second game was much quicker (in less than 30 mins), and my Marines got shot to pieces much quicker, despite some good Charge rolls (but he managed to plasma-overwatch a Marine !!)
...
Well, that's about all for now, folks...
Still have tons of projects to work on : Daemons, Star Phantoms, a Baneblade, scenery... Oh, also bought some Tempestus Scions & a Hydra !
Thanks again for the kind words, guys, and sorry for the hiatus... I'll try to be more active those next weeks !
(oh, and if any want to play Titanfall (XB1)... Just drop a PM ! )
Wonderful to get caught up with what's been going on with you over the last bit Yggs. Figures look fantabulous as usual. I especially like the lightening effects on the marine sword. Sweet. Love the plague bearer too. Always wanted to do up some of those guys myself.

Games sound like fun... what more can you ask?!
Thank you Gits !
At first I really struggled with the swords, I was really at a loss for ideas about them... And they got my attention last ! I hesitated between airbrushing them red-to-yellow, purple, green, blue, or painting them in metal, until my friend Denis showed me again those Vanguard Vets power weapons ! And thus I came with the lightning effect
As for the Plaguebearers... They are indeed great to paint, and not so tedious ! (Much less than building them anyway !)
And they're nothing more to ask...
IceAngel wrote:Yggs! Welcome back. Love the pics. I envy the paint job on the sword. Very nice.

No major update sadly, but I'm still fiddling with my Nurgle Daemon Princes....
Here's the most advanced of #2 and #3, who for now is labelled as "former Apothecary" :
What do you think ? I'm still considering a few head options, would you like to help me choose which one would suit him best ? Or perhaps you have some suggestions ?
Gitsplitta wrote:Very interesting... how about a side view?
Ask, my friend, and you shall receive !
Better now ?

Won't he be kinda short? Just for arguments sake.
Spoiler:
That's his predecessor, I think the bulk of the Troll body fits nicely for a Daemon Prince, don't you agree ?
Thanks for arguing uh, that's (partly) what we're here for
As for the Ogryn head, that's brilliant ! But only because that's precisely one of the ideas I had ... but I think it makes him look more like an oversized mutant, rather than a Daemon :
What do you think ?
San76 wrote:he looks very twisted - nice work! no idea what head would be cool sorry, but i look forward to seeing him painted.
Thanks San !
As for now, here are the contenders for his head :
My favourite, until now, would be the top-left head, that would look like a mask and turn him blind...
My gut response says that the head needs to be bigger in order to match the volume of the model (in a demony way.. not in a realistic way). You might be able to just add bits to that face plate though... horns or something... to get the same effect.

He'd look like that :
What do you guys think of that ?
I think that the Bullgryn head works a bit better, to be honest Yggs. Maybe sculpt a hood over the head and make him look less 'mutie' and more 'mysterious angrything'?
I think that you should add the rebrether part of the bullgryn head to that top-left part to give it som more character, or do the same to the mid-top part and add a cyclopean-style lens in the middle of the mask.

Love that head in the upper-right.
The upper-right head is a Chaos Spawn one, allegedly for a Nurgle-oriented Spawn !
I'm not sure I totally agree with you on the head scale, I think it sometimes works to have a smaller one, to emphasize the twisted nature of the model... Still, you'll see below
Thanks for your advice ! I'll probably follow it for Prince #3
inmygravenimage wrote:I really like the bullgryn head still, could be very fly-like if you add a proboscis?
Bullgryn head seems right indeed, but I'll most probably only add a hood & cables of some sorts... I'm not sure how you want me to add a proboscis on a gasmasked head ?
Kanluwen wrote:

Yeah I agree with you Kan, we'll see how it works...
The hood was good-looking on the first Prince, so why wouldn't it here ?

Wow, that's pretty ambitious for sure ! I'm not sure I'll be able to pull that off without ruining it all...
As for the top-mid part, I had also thought about your cyclopean lens, but rather where there's already a "hole" in it... Do you think it would work ?
IceAngel wrote:Yggs, can Gitsplitta send you one of his Mantis Warrior heads?
It's larger then a usual head and fits quiet well with the Lord of Decay motif.
Well, due to their "black widow" tendencies, I think Mantis heads would rather be appropriate for Slaanesh

So you'd agree with Gits... Damn, too late, I chose the "rebreather" path... Let's see how it works out for now ?
OK, so here's the latest WIP !
I also bulked out his shoulders with the Ogryns pads, to try and turn it closer to a (former) power armour... I'm pretty happy with it so far, but still lots of work (and weathering) to do... What do you guys think ?
As for the Tau, I've spent a few hours on my Kroot squad... Nothing to fancy, just airbrushed their skin, and completed their crests...
I still have a lot to do for them to be complete !
Solar_lion wrote:Very nice! They will stand out for sure.

Thanks uh

Like where you're going with the daemon - you could have a proboscis extending from the bottom of the mask between the two canisters - like graven I think that could have a very nurgle feel.

On a side note, the WD from last week had an interesting bit of fluff that I cannot remember from anywhere else... I don't have my iPad with me, so cannot quote it thoroughly, but it was really surprising.
Spoiler:
It mentioned the fact that the Ultramarines could be somewhat responsible for the fall of Sotha, the Emperor's Scythes Fortress World, due to a "scheme that dated back from the Horus Heresy" (or something along those lines).
I'm not a fluff specialist, but how could something the UM did in M30 cause the Tyranids, a threat emerging on the verge of M41, to target a specific world ?!? #puzzled
This is a generic sentence or two to prevent preview text from showing what's in the spoilers.
Spoiler:
In the HH novel, The Unremembered Empire, Roboute and the Ultramarines find a piece of Xenos technology on Sotha that allows instantaneous communication between planets without the need of the Astronomicon or Psykers. After a loyal Iron Warrior Warsmith discovered how to use this, Roboute used it as a second Astronomicon to bring Sanginius's ships to Ultramar at the end of Fear Itself.
If I remember correctly, this piece of technology relies on psychic readings as well as emotions based upon the events of Unremembered Empire, but this could be this piece of technology, discovered by the Ultramarines, that lead to the Tyranids to target and devour Sotha. Thus, leading to the extinction of the planet.

I like the result of the feathering on the blue of the flag as well ! As for the camo, TBH I didn't think it would look that good ! I started with a green basecoat, with quite large khaki & brown patches, then smaller black ones, topped up with a layer of Sepia Wash... And tadaaaa !
Another fun fact of the day : my second-in-command had asked my friend Denis to custom-build a miniature as a gift for this special day !!!
Here's what I got :
On the tombstone are the dates of my time in the regiment, a Nurgling & Tau to represent the Armies I'm building !
As for the Marine :
- He's a Captain, coz', hey, I'm a captain ! - He's blue because the traditional colour of my company (1st) is blue !
- And he's got wings because my first name is Raphaël, an (arch-)angel !
So psyched, humbled & thankful for their nice words & gifts !
Next up : on holiday for 10 days, so expect buildings, Daemon Princes, and Kroots !
Sageheart wrote:Wow! That is really a great gift, full of thoughtfulness. It's really good you have comrades who appreciate you this much.'
If you don't mind me asking, what made you paint up that beautiful model for your sergeant, and them to get you such a personal figure?
No worries
In the French Army, the company commanders change every two years, and so every two years, the company gets a new captain to lead it... And it's always a special occasion both for the new commander, the former, and their men...
So there's always a military ceremony, a "party", and some gifts from the company to their former commander... So, among other things, I got that awesome SM captain !
And because I'm not a traditionalist, I also had some gifts for my "inner circle" : platoon leaders, company sergeant, second-in-command, etc... Hence the flag-bearing sergeant !
[edit : my FLGWS is setting up a painting comp' due on the 19th of July, with 3 categories : Orks, Astra Militarum, Wood Elves... What do you think I should go for ? As I bought some Flashgitz & a Painboy yesterday, I'm tempted by the Orks... ]
I'd say Wood Elves. I think you'd be able to do some amazing things with those new Treeman kits AND it would be something completely new for you. AND everyone else is going to do orks.

IceAngel wrote:I'd say Wood Elves. I think you'd be able to do some amazing things with those new Treeman kits AND it would be something completely new for you. AND everyone else is going to do orks.
Yeah, the "new" argument is quite valid, PLUS I've also bought some Dryads & a Treeman for my "Garden of Nurgle" army... So that would be doable, if not for the time : a Treeman in 3 weeks ? That's out of my league !!
As for "Orks", agreed too...
Gitsplitta wrote:Orks.
Hey Gits, I knew you'd say this...
Another side project : yeah, I know it's not right, but my imagination went awry again, and tonight I built a... Night Stalkers Dread !!!
Here he is :
Based on an AoBR dread I had in my bitz box, from a long-forgotten ebay lot... With quite a lot of DA icons & bitz... What do you think ? Is he darkangelized enough ?
It's pretty rad either way. Ice gets to see mine for the first time tomorrow. He's only bugged me about it like 12 times.
It's in English, for sure ! Ok, for the LE ones, there's no translated version available lol !
Anyway, I prefer to have my Codices (sp?) in English anyways... And with the new website, it's now possible even from France ! I'm happy with that
I like the new format, every rule is set in the unit entry, you don't need to go back & forth between the "Bestiary" and the "Army list" anymore... That's a big win for me !
Nashbashem wrote:I've always enjoyed your camo scheme, how do you do it? And nice haul
Thanks !
As for the camouflage, I apply with blister foam some masking paste (from Humbrol or Tamyia, whatever) on the basecoat (1st camo colour, in this case black), then airbrush the 2nd colour (in this case, blue-grey), re-apply some masking paste, airbrush the 3rd colour (sand yellow), and then remove the masking tape with fingers or a stipple paintbrush, and... tadaa !!!
A few pics :
Spoiler:
Hope this helps !!
As for the Dreadnought, it's finally done !!!
Here's the promised pic :
Getting back to the Night Stalkers has set my mind on fire with everything I wanted to build for that army but never did...
A Ravenwing command squad on foot with RW Captain (not Sammael), a DW Command Squad, another DW squad, a TDA Librarian, some more bikes.... Aaaaargh !!!
Gitsplitta wrote:Very nice work on the dread there Yggs. Sarcophagus just looks great!

did your colleague like his gift?
Thank you guys, the sarcophagus seems to attract a lot of attention... I'm glad I took the time to file off the original one and put the DA one on top, I also think it looks great !
As for the glow effects, I tried to be a bit less enthusiastic than usual, and at first had only planned to airbrush the Plasma Cannon & Searchlight... Ok, I couldn't help but try on the DCCW too
I think it looks quite nice on the PC, not as good on the searchlight & power fist... But hey, at least it won't be too far from the rest of the Army !
whalemusic360 wrote:If not for the engine smokestacks, wouldnt have ever known it was a Black Reach Dread, good job!
Thanks mate, I put quite some efforts into "darkangelizing" it, so I'm glad it pays off !
Solar_lion wrote:That's a great overall effect.. Sounds very time consuming!
Well, TBH, not so much compared to my usual standards... Built in two sessions, painted in two days... It was quite fast !!!
Now for the boring / discussing part : I've found a technique that works quite nicely for me in terms of "time spent / overall effect" : I just spray / airbrush / drybrush / sponge-weather most of the vehicle, then spend a bit of time on SOME details (sarcophagus, angel icon/banners, feathers, lenses) while quickly painting some others (purity seals, skulls, etc...) AND ignoring some potentially-painstaking ones (like the cables on the side of the sarcophagus).
In the end, the eye is drawn to the few nicely painted details, while totally ignoring the unpainted ones... I think it works !!!
Oh, and I still am bad at writing names & freehanding
As for the last two days, I've been working on my Ravenwing Command Squad on foot, complete with Captain & Techmarine... Do you want WIP pics ?
RW Command squad & TDA Librarian (can be zoomed in the gallery) :
Close-up on the Librarian :
And as for the Techmarine, I need help from you ! I'm still debating which head I should use for him, to help make him stand out as an adept of the Omnissiah :
Either the "RW Techmarine Pilot" head :
Or an Iron Hand head with bionics :
So, what do you think is best ? (I prefer the IH one, one of my friend is more on the RW side... )
Bonus : +1 to the one that can make out which parts were used in the making of the Librarian
Cant see enough of the legs to say for sure, maybe DW legs with part of the DW knight robe used as a tallbard? Rest looks to be a GKT torso, DA Vet (or upgrade sprue) head, DW arms, angle from the Vet kit as well.
I vote for the RW Tech Marine head. that layered look is very Techmarine looking. The other looks more like a Vet than a Tech.
Chemical Cutthroat wrote:I think the second head looks cooler. The Ravenwing head always gets a lot of play, but I think the Bionic one is waaay cooler.
Ok so that's 2 for IH head (my vote included )... Thanks !

Ok, half- for WM360 !
Legs are the bottom half of the DV Terminator Sergeant... Quite happy I managed to cut everything off & fit a GKT torso on top !
You're right for the rest
And ok, that's 2 for RW Techmarine head (my friend Renault's vote included )... Damn, still a draw!
[edit : wow, just noticed you had a promotion WM ! When did that happen ? ]
Brother Payne wrote:How have I missed this blog?! Just served through the whole thing and damn! there's some impressive stuff here.
Really like you Tzeentch chosen unit and your friends apoc board is awesome!
Any chance you remember the colours you used for you tau? In particular their grey/cream armour colour.
Love this stuff and I really look forward to further progress on the RW command!
Hey, thanks for joining the band and the kind words !
As for the Tau, it's quite simple really :
- White basecoat ;
- Sepia wash in the recesses ;
- Dryad Bark for the weathering, applied with a small sponge or blister foam...
And.... VoilĂ !
Sageheart wrote:I would go for the first choice for techmarine head.
The idea of CO changing every two years is a very interesting concept. I did not know the French military worked that way.
Ok thanks, that's 4 for the Techmarine
As for the French Army, the 2-year length is applied only for specific officer functions, like company commander, battalion commander, or brigadier... For most other roles, the duration may vary !
On a wedding trip this weekend (not mine, don't worry), and back to work on Monday, so don't expect updates before a few days... But that gives you more time for helping me in choosing which Techmarine head I should use !
Brother Payne wrote:Thanks for the painting tips I vote RW head - it just seems to fit better
No problem
The only risk with this technique is being over-enthusiastic with the sponging, and I've found myself carried away on more than an occasion... Don't hesitate, for the first models, to go lightly with the weathering : if it's not enough, you can always go back to them
+1 for RW.

That's another one for IH !
On a side note, my significant other also voted for the Techmarine.... so +1 for RW.
Intermediate voting results :
- Iron Hand head : 3 (mine excluded)
- Techmarine head : 6
Damn, it seems I'll have to change my mind and use the RW Tech head...
well if its not too late i vote Iron hands too ;-) looks a bit top heavy with the techmarine head to me, although your paintwork could easily change that ;-)
your city board looks great btw as do your Kroot and your IG bannerman for that matter.
Jeez, Yggs. Apparently I need to step away from Dakka more often. I don't know what you've been doing while I've been gone, but you're doing it well. Seriously, it seems like your painting has gotten a lot better than what I was looking at only a few months ago. Hope to be back in the grind before too long. House is almost complete. My nerd hole/painting station is all set up, but no time to get on anything yet. Glad to see you haven't been hindered much! Keep on doing what you're doing, because it is definitely working!

Of course votes are still up ! +1 for IH !
I agree with the "top heavy" aspect, I had hoped the bionics would make up for it, but it doesn't seem like it... and I don't feel like adding cables, struts or whatever size-bulking contraptions that would look Techmarine-y... Probably too much work for me, unless someone has an awesome idea ???
Thanks about the rest

Hey Moltar, it's good to see you back ! I'm glad you're almost done with your major endeavour, and will soon be able to join us back again !!
TBH I haven't been as quick as I'd have wanted, but it's still faster than before 2012...
As for the painting, I'm not sure I got better in general, but I most probably managed to improve on the "efficiency" of my painting, meaning I now have the impression of producing good-looking, tabletop-quality models in a quite acceptable amount of time... Which is much better than before !!!
But on the contrary, I feel I've lost practice on some advanced techniques (paintbrushed OSL, faces) due to focusing on those other aspects... Damn, the life of a hobbyist can be ungrateful !!!
Still, thanks a lot for the praise...
I'm still tinkering with the Dark Vengeance DW squad, trying to add some different poses & weapons to them with the leftovers from the new DW kit.... Not much worth posting as pics for now, but we'll see how it turns out !
Ok, I haven't made that much progress on the Marines, but I have to share what I got in the mail today :
That's how GW just made things up for the fact that they screwed up the Orks LE Codex (they forgot to write the LE # in the box, or their subcontractor did, more likely).
I think it's almost better (and funnier) the way they tried to catch up with their mistake !
Hey there, have been a bit busy with the two Deathwing squads I'm building : I'm trying to mix a DV set with a DW kit to create two distinct squads, a DW command one and a "regular" one.
As I already have a DV squad painted, and their poses being quite characteristic, I did a lot of cutting, snapping, and glueing to avoid them being alike with the first squad !
Here are the first 3 members. The one with surplice will be in the command squad, the others in the "regular" squad, and all of them were built upon DV lower body parts !
What do you guys think ?
Now I'm on a day off, so expect more before tomorrow !
Love the guy on the right! Angle makes it a little tricky to see all the details on the other two, but I have faith. How glowy are you going to make them?
inmygravenimage wrote:Love the guy on the right! Angle makes it a little tricky to see all the details on the other two, but I have faith. How glowy are you going to make them?
Thanks graven ! Below you'll find some more pics, maybe the view is better ?
I'll try and not make them as glowy as their predecessors, while keeping them in the same theme...
IceAngel wrote:Or how weathered will they become?
Refer to Sergeant Mortifex for uber weathered.
I don't plan on weathering them, as the rest of the army isn't (well, unless the Dread which I've weathered lightly)...
Now.... Behold... the Deathwing Reinforcements !
Deathwing squad #2, more assault-oriented than the DV one :
Librarian & his command squad, with a Watcher in the Dark :
Close up on the DW Command squad (LC, CML & CF, TH & SS & Deathwing Standard, Apothecary, Champion)
Not bad, not bad at all Yggs, inventive and good posing all around. We accept this most humble offering of nerdy pictures instead of a finished daemonprince.
As per your blood-contract you will recive pictures of finished Alpha Legionaires by this weeks end, if you provide further offerings in the shape of PIP's you may be blessed with WIP's of a Legion Moritat and Master of Signals
IceAngel wrote:Fantastic. That is a very dynamic bunch of terminators, which is rare. Can't wait to see them all painted.
Thanks Ice ! TBH I have one model that upsets me, it's the Terminator Sergeant on the DW squad (the only one without a helmet). I feel he's too static compared to his comrades, but I could figure out how to make him more dynamic with the leftover bits I had (TH mostly)...
Let's say he knows to keep his head cool while his squad wreaks havoc around him ?!
San76 wrote:Looking great mate. Love the poses.
Thanks ! It needed a lot of effort to convert the DV, one-pose models, but I think I managed to avoid them looking too much alike !

Perhaps even another Apothecary..
Ok, I wasn't convinced about the need for further offerings until you mentioned the Apothecary...
'Coz Apothecaries are probably my favourite specialists in a SM force, you know... So hey, this being the weekend, I might go further down the road!
But as plans are concerned, I think I'll try and build the last squad for my Night Stalkers army : a Veterans squad. As I don't have any unit fulfilling that role in my army, I'm planning to give them some anti-infantry firepower. Loadout should be the following : Sergeant with either 2x LC or LC & PP ; Heavy Bolter ; Flamer ; 2x Combi-Flamers.
What do you think ?
Last thing : I still haven't made up my mind about the Techmarine... Any other vote/argument for the Iron Hand bionic head or the RW Tech head ?
[edit : oh, and with my Stormclaw box supposedly arriving soon, I'm all over Space Wolves now... I'm toying with lists in my head, the content of the set as a base with Thunderwolves & a few vehicles added... Why !!! Not to mention the Mek / Shoota-heavy Ork army that is bubbling near my every thought.... again ]
I like the muted tones very much Ygg. I really like the badmoon, but I am a sucker for yellow. The middle grot is probably my fav though...very grim colour scheme

Thanks for the advice San. I find it a bit too dark though... Any idea on how to "brighten" it a bit ?
It's Tuesday morning around here, so I'll just let you guys with 2 pics of the Deathwing squads, as a proof that they're getting some attention !
I have a game planned next Monday, so I intend on bringing a whole new army to my friend's house as a surprise, with the Dreadnought & a full host of 22 Terminators ! So I'll focus the rest of my week on that !
edited because i wrote a whole thing that on second reading totally misunderstood you!
well, since you asked....with the middle grot i think you could brighten him up using some kind of feature with a contrasting tone. like, for example, you have a very dark model, maybe a bright white and black geometric design (cheques, triangles, something orky) on the helm and gun. just something to draw away from the grimness.
alternatively (or as well, its not like orks are subtle) you could maybe bring some lighter tones into the skin? leave the armour dark and grimy but lighten the skin colour up at extremities?
i only suggest cause you ask...i like the model!
ps your spray booth has an awesome disco vibe going on with those colours
Looking good Yggs, me on the other hand, has not painted at all.
I did convert a Moritat, Apothecary, Rhino and are currently scratchbuilding a couple of Mk2b Landraider sponsons from ye olde vehicle-pool so I can use it in the Horus Heresy setting....

Hey, San, those are great suggestions... Though I'm awed at the idea of freehanding some chequered or triangle patterns...
Your idea of "brigthening up" makes me think I should maybe retry another test model... This time with a white undercoat ? Maybe it'd help
Also thanks about the booth... It just changes its "vibe" whenever I change the paint scheme, and... I kinda like it

Thanks, blue rocks Well TBH the DV Terminator models are quite dynamic themselves, so with a bit of effort it's doable to turn them into other, dynamic models... Patience & planning are the key !
Pic for tonight : mostly did the power weapons, with a first blotch of red on the eyes and lenses... Yeah, I couldn't manage but turn what was supposed to be "halos" into "blotches"...
Not so unhappy about the weapons though, especially the Lightning Claws...
On a side note, and as none of my (French) friends read me in here, I can just post it without fear : tomorrow I'm heading to Paris for a covert raid whose main objective is buying...

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,

Chosen already... Hence the trip to Paris... I'll pretend to go to work, then wait for her to go to work, come back home & change clothes (buying a ring in Paris in standard fatigues ? ), then jump on the train... Grab the ring, get to a nice restaurant, then jump back on the train... Coming back - hopefully - before she comes home from work...
And yeah I'm excited, that's why it's 3am and I'm still on Dakka

GiraffeX wrote:They are really starting to come together now.
Yep they are... Battle is on Monday, so I can't mess up !!!
Fun fact #1 : Yesterday I took a "complete" model from my first Terminator squad (the one I painted last year), put it near one of the latest ones (still incomplete), and... There aren't a lot of differences lol !!
I guess either : 1. my standards were REALLY low when I painted the whole army (I did have to rush it to match the deadlines, I know), or 2. my standards are really HIGHER now....
Well, I guess it's more 1. than 2. ...
Lucarikx wrote:Wow, those look amazing. The camo works really well for Terminators!
I do agree with you
Your comment made me think about the fact that I didn't explain why the Command squad was different ! When I painted my Whirlwind mostly in black, with only a few parts in camouflage, it looked so much better that I decided I would try it again on the Dreadnought... And since it worked pretty well too, then I had to try on infantry models ! And the command squad was the perfect unit to try it, with a black armour and a camouflaged tabard...
So here they are !
Fluffwise, I imagine they are "another Circle" within the Night Stalkers chapter, where the members are allowed to repaint their armour (or vehicle) in black due to some secret achievement related to Fallens... I still have to work more on that one part
Tonight was a night out, so no progress... Cheers !
Hey guys, sorry for the lack of updates, but internet access was a luxury where I was on holiday...
But I haven't been lazy, building-wise !
What pics to expect in the next few days :
- DW Army, fully painted ;
- 10-strong DA Veteran squads, built ;
- 3 WIP Killa Kanz, built ;
- Star Phantoms Hunter, built (still undecided about Hunter/Stalker, btw... Any one got some table experience with them ? As I don't have a real preference modelling-wise...)
Ok, thanks ! TBH I do think the Stalker is more effective, but it was longer to build, and I (somewhat) prefer the bulk of the Hunter... But I'm still unconvinced !
Solar_lion wrote: I made my Hunter/stalker interchangeable/ I can also use it as a Rhino/ Pred./ RB with the right extra parts.
Well, I had thought about that, but the turret base parts just don't fit "tightly" enough for them to hold onto the model if unglued... And I fear I might forget about it and risk the turrets falling off ! Did you magnetize everything ?
TBH I'm not sure I want to spend the time needed to be able to realize both...
Anyway, here's the WIP pic :
As you can see, I didn't have the "extra armour" parts, as I used them on the Command Rhino... But I wanted to add a little "extra" to that one anyway, so I went with one of the crew fending off closing foes with his bolter... What do you think ?
Hey man, I have no idea about the usefulness of stalker vs hunters but I can tell you that the guy with the bolter looks fantastic . Adds a sense of movemt to the rhino model chassis; love it!

Kroot also looking good man, very striking!
Hey, thanks mate ! That's what I wanted to do : put something different on the "classic" Rhino
As for the pics I had promised :
- A Night Stalkers Veterans Squad, complete & with close-ups :
(Please forgive grandma's beautiful napkin(s) as background uh )
- Then some Killa Kans :
(My first Kan ever !!!)
- And, as a last pic, my WIP take on Stormclaw's Kan character, Krumpa :
I'm thinking that he's about to stomp, not a Space Wolf or an Eldar, but a poorly Grot ! Indeed, Krumpa's fluff is all about his bullying his comrades ! An Ork shows he's the boss by bullying Grots, so Krumpa stomps Grots to show he's the Boss too !!! What do you think about that idea ?
Very nice Yggs. I really like what you did with the tau gun as well, such a great idea. It has just the right amount of ork custom gubbins to make it fit right in.
Sorry Guyz, I've been on a long training course which isn't over until the end of October, so internet access is scarce !!!
I'm home for the weekend so I've managed to spare a few minutes to reply... But no updates sorry, though I've worked a bit on my models (building only, sadly)...
IceAngel wrote:Very nice Yggs. I really like what you did with the tau gun as well, such a great idea. It has just the right amount of ork custom gubbins to make it fit right in.
Thanks, it was both funny & challenging to find the correct balance... I'm still pondering whether to add a Grot Rigger to the model, and what should it count as... Maybe a Kustom Blasta S8 AP2 Gets Hot ? Looks quite the same than a S8 AP1 railgun, with downgraded range and the extra Orky randomness !?!

Hey yeah, thanks for the support... Stomping a strong foe like a SM was too heroic for a Kan, I thought it'd look better if it was bullying a weak "komrade"

Hey hey can't wait to have time for more !!! Those models are incredibly fun to build !
SJM wrote:Nice kans! Is it holding the Rail gun in 2 hands? Cant really make it out!
Thanks ! Sadly no, the Kan body is too bulky to be able to wield the railgun two-handed, and I didn't have enough bitz to make it work... The left arm is the Tau broadside left arm, with a buzzsaw attachment... I'm not that happy about it, but the Railgun makes up for it IMHO !
As for what I've built, there are : a DA Assault Squad, with a JP Librarian & a JP Chaplain ; a Librarian biker ; a 5-man Grey Knights Interceptor squad... Expect some more bikes before I get to the Orks !!!
Good luck to you all, sorry if I cannot follow all your Plogs & update mine as much as I want to....
Much has happened in those few months, but since the last comments were on my engagement, I haven't really felt like coming around lately. Indeed, I have cancelled my engagement, as I have met another woman where I'm now stationed... Long story short, I quit my 11-year-old story to start a new one, and I'm now with Audrey, a wonderful woman who's also the loving mother of two adorable kids, Gautier, 5, and Estelle, 7. As you can imagine, not all went smoothly, so I didn't really have any time left for the Hobby !! But it's all (almost) settled now, so I hope to get back into painting soon !
So now I have to get "back in the saddle" with another project, and what's got to my attention lately is... Blood Angels ! Tadaaa !
Wish me luck on those new ones !!! I will, FOR ONCE, try the REGULAR, OFFICIAL paintscheme... Yeah, incredible, uh ?!?
I'm actually interested to see how you take on a normal scheme. I don't know if I should express sympathy or congratulations on your current non-hobby status. I suppose both?
I am really surprised you are not going for a successor chapter, to be perfectly honest I was burnt out on BA until I saw the new successor from WD. BA got me into the hobby, I can't wait to see your take on it.
So nice to get such kind words, after being back for so long... I'm humbled
As for RL, well that's BOTH a blessing and a curse, of course !!!
As for BAs, well... At first I had though about returning to the Achlysian Reavers, but they were a bit tedious to paint...
Plus I haven't practiced red a lot in my Hobby life, so hey !
Only a few squads in the whole project uh... I'm not ready to take on another 3000-point army !!!
As for now I'm thinking about :
- Terminator Librarian (new shiny model) with Assault Terminators retinue (new shiny models), maybe in a Stormraven gunship (to be confirmed) ;
- Sanguinary Priest (new shiiiiny modellllll ) with a yet-undetermined retinue - Command Squad with JP ? / Sternguard Vets ? / Death Company ?, maybe in a Razorback or Drop Pod ;
- A Tactical squad (new shiny models), just because... Did I mention they had some lovely, new, shiny models for those ?, maybe in a Drop Pod or Rhino ;
- A Baal-pattern Predator (old, but shiny models)...
I'm not aiming at a tournament-grade army, just having some fun with the latest, great models they released... Plus, I've always wanted a Predator Baal to begin with
Thanks again for the kind words, if it feels good to feel... home ?
Welcome back Yggs! I am extremely excited to see how you whip up some Blood Angels. I am a bit sad you wont be doing any more reavers though. They had a truly unique scheme that I really enjoyed.
Congrats on the RL situation. Taking the rocky road to get to a better place is always worth it, as long as the road destroys your ride in the process. It sounds like you made it and picked up some hitchhikers!
Good to see you back buddy. I know from general fb chat that it's been an up and down few months for you, but great to see you've got your priorities in order
