DC? I have no idea what you're talking about! All of the following are perfectly original concepts. One of my designers invented the wheel in 1978, you know? (/GW-mode)
Nah, these are all fairly obvious, and the names only help. At some point last night, my line of thought changed from 'that Enforcer looks like X' to 'How can I make that Enforcer look like X', at which point the following blatantly obvious ripoffs emerged.
Wilson Slades, otherwise known as 'Miracle Wilson':
And, of course, sniper Oliver Green:
And Grayson Wing, Pathfinder, on a scratch-built mono-bike:
And Team Delta-Cobra:
And as I run short of inspiration but not parts, I'll throw this out there: Who do you want to see built as an Enforcer? It can be DC, Marvel, Halo, Star Wars, anything sci-fi really.
Yeah, I am going to sling a sword across his back, it's just a case of finding something practical and not hideously out of scale. You can get away with a bit of 'heroic' with Enforcers, but not a huge amount before it starts looking silly.
John Sierra II: He was good. He was the best, so the Council wasted no time in using their new time-travel technology to jump 10 years into his past and extract a second version.(This one has improved graphics and dual wield! )
Agent: Patriot
The Hunter:
Defender Frank Fort:
Recon N-32:
Next, REBEL SCUM! Including alien werewolves, fedora-wearing parrots and a mouseman with a machine gun...
Thanks! I'm really happy with how the Strider and Teraton came out; zoomed in on the photos I can see the Zees and Yndij need a bit of touch up work. You can't see it from those photos, but the Teraton has flesh pink washed with SW dark red under the tail and the chin, to give that pale lizard underbelly that is otherwise hidden by the armour on the torso.
The bases and the green - they all have a cape, a shoulder pad, a chest plate, etc painted in the same (Eucalyptus-y) green. Otherwise I tried to make the clothes and armour lots of greys and brown with different coloured washes to create individuality ie the Grogans, and the skin/hair tones as wildly variant as I could get to work, to show just how varied the Rebellion really is.
Falling a bit behind on my Mantic models lately, next one on the list is the enforcer sniper, any colour suggestions for the cloak? I have an idea but i don't know how well i'll be able to get it to work.
Sniper done, bit of a rushed job but most of it turned out nice.
Since I'm a bit of a fan of this figure I thought I might add a little background regarding snipers in the SPEC.T.E.R squad.
Marksmen who have been selected for recruitment into SPEC.T.E.R are exclusively hand picked from the enforcers after completion of particularly hazardous missions or survived impossible odds. Before returning to the rest of his/her assigned squad the selected enforcer is sent a private message on an encoded channel, the message consists of 4 words with two simple commands: LEAVE NOW. INFORM NOBODY.
The test begins, the selected candidate follows the order making sure to leave no traces behind, they follow a set of commands which are sent at specific intervals which lead them across the galaxy while their squad assumes they have been killed in action thus severing all ties.
If the candidate can make it to the assigned rendezvous without revealing to anybody their true status they pass the loyalty test at which point they are initiated into SPEC.T.E.R for further training.
At the end of the harsh training the new recruit is assigned the new call sign of Wraith and awarded specialized exclusive gear for future missions; the Wraith shroud and the Reaper rifle.
The Wraith shroud is an active camouflage cloak. By changing set inputs the cloak itself can assume thousands of pre-set patterns and textures in order to adapt to an ever changing battlefield.
The Reaper rifle is made of the same lightweight materials as all SPEC.T.E.R weaponry which makes it easy to change positions fast without being hindered by the rifles size but apart from its light construction it also incorporates a special feature, housed within the laser sights there is a complex scanner capable of processing both organic and synthetic material, the rifle uses this information to cross reference corporation databases to provide identification, medical history, schematic files, etc... and relay the information back to the rifle scope, the Wraith can then identify people of interest, sensitive areas and possible weak points that can be exploited for an easy kill.
Despite being incredibly useful tools on the battlefield the production of both the shroud and rifle are incredibly time consuming and costly making them impractical for general use for all enforcers and are generally reserved for SPEC.T.E.R infantry to aid in their primary mission, the location and execution of the rouge Judwan assassin Wrath.
Cheers, to be honest the cloak is about the best bit on this model, I should have taken a bit more time to get a smoother finish on the rest of the armour and rifle but what's done is done.
Hey GD, glad you like the white scheme, its not the easiest colour to work with but it really stands out when its done, I like your plague colour and skin tone, what colours did you use on the flesh? At some point im going to have to start on all the zombie miniatures and that skin tone looks just about right.
I used Minitaire Rotted Flesh over white. Usually just one coat or possibly two in some spots. Then I dipped with tudor minwax, I suspect that army painter dark tone would be 'close'.
I'm trying to paint up my Enforcer Engineer but struggling with some of the details around the head, could any of you post up some pictures of your finished model so i could take a look and see how you've painted yours?
It likely won't help you, but I'm still working on my Engineers. One will have a Tony Stark bare head, the other will have an actual Enforcer head, but painted Red and Yellow. I'll try to get the Red and Yellow one done soon.*
*Red and Yellow in caps as I'm making it a proper name for Iron Man's armor. So suck it, any fellow English grammar Nazis.
I finally got around to painting up some hard plastic Enforcers. They don't really fit in either of my painting blogs, so I'll put them up here.
Can you spot the one restic Enforcer?
A generic power glove sergeant.
A slightly more dynamic sergeant with a wrist blade. I gave up on OSL for these, and switched to a heated-metal effect. Does it work?
This guy has the heavy flamer thing.
This was my first proof-of-concept guy, and thus a little boring.
When assembling these guys, I matched the legs to the torsos (i.e. Right Leg A, Left Leg A and Torso A). Most of them worked well enough, but R/L leg D match up terribly with torso D. My solution was to put him in mid-jump:
I have 7 or 8 more sprues of these guys to play with, so the next batch should be more interesting to look at. All in all, a worthy investment I think.
It took me a while but I've finally got the Engineer and a gun turret finished.
Within the SPEC.T.E.R division the Engineers are known as Poltergeists or Geists for short, they earn this nickname for their ability to open and close doors and control mechanical objects long distances away with their superior hacking experience via neural to computer interfaces and are usually included in most excursions to a deadzone in order to clear path's and maintain communication systems during the campaign.
Geists usually pack a pair of automated turrets for additional defence, these turrets are the Banshee mark VII. The Banshees earn their name from the high pitched wail as the turret prepares to unleash a hail of high velocity anti-personal rounds into any unlucky target which may wander in front of the turrets scanner.
I think I saw this guy on facebook already, I really like the black.. very dark but with enough highlights so you don't get bored. The white and blue are nice additions to keep it interesting too.
nice stuff but with such a dark colour scheme it could really benefit from some highlights on some of the black armour and a few touches of paint around the eyes. The black, grey and red do work together quite nicely though, looking forward to seeing the rest of your squad =)
First time painting, I'm not very good at it and painting the Brokkr Chief (who is very small!) was a bit of a challenge but I'm fairly happy with the results.
Doesn't show the colours very well in this photo, guess I should have put him under a lamp before taking the photo.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Love the Rebels Slinky! Great colours on the guy with the two pistols, I don't recognise the model though? Which unit is it?
yeah he's a nice model, i might try and pick one up for my reb faction.
Nice model Xem, especially for somebody who says he doesn't paint very much, on your next ones might I suggest a few more paint washes and highlights on the skin and hair/beard to really make your details pop out
And I figured with this latest addition I should just get a group shot of all the Enforcers, so here they are, scouring an abandoned hab-block for Plague.
Cheers guys, now i have 2 regular enforcers and the scout bike to paint before painting up the solid plastic enforcers and the Peace keepers but before I do them I want to take a break from all this white armour and try my hand at something different, so should I....
A) Get painting some beardy space dwarves
B) Try some colour on bendy space elves
C) Or add a bit of life to some special mercenary figures (which ones?)
I vote space dwarfs as I'm somewhat undecided on color schemes for those (studio scheme is looking better and better if I'm honest), although I wouldn't mind seeing your work on some of the mercs.
Yeah I've been thinking about my forge fathers, still haven't come to a final conclusion for the scheme, I know i want a lot of black gold and blue for the exo-armour troops but the actual main bulk of the squad is proving to be tricky, I was thinking black and orange for the clothes or possibly deep reds and browns... hmmm...
I wanted to use some of the other SW models for my Rebs too, but in the end I decided against it as I wanted to use a range of the Mantic alien models.
I have based all my Rebs with the SW bases, though
Actually they are not dipped. The process for achieving the look you see is as follows:
Prime grey
overspray with flat white
agrax earthshade wash
seraphim sepia wash
drybrush the carapace with khaki
drybrush the carapace with off white
drybrush the carapace white
paint flesh with bloodletter glaze 3 layers
Carrosburg crimson wash on flesh
The blood is indeed blood for the blood god
Tausept ochre for the eyes.
Thanks for all the kind words guys. I really enjoyed painting these. The enforcers not so much & I may strip them & start over.
Awhile back I was on a quest to acquire a Keegan Kor (not Riddick basically) for my brother, the marine, as a gift. Well I did & he uses him as Señor Massacre in Infinity. I have a second one on my painting queue & I was curious if anyone had a thought which merc he would proxy well for in Deadzone?
Blaine. Blaine has some Riddick references in his character and is probably the most badass of the mercs. At least at fighting, others can shoot better but none are better at punching people in the face and walking away from explosions than Blaine. YMMV.
Looking closer I can see the extra effort, some of the pooling reminded me of when I dip stuff so that was my guess.
Where would one acquire Blaine's stat card? I have the wave 2 deck & he's not in there.
I should have my rebs finished today & I'll post them as well. When all the bases are all done I'll go back & do the sides of them in one go. Mostly because I'm not sure how I'm going to do them just yet.
Hey, I just saw these pop up on facebook. I'll say it again, lovely models, great work! I believe that's the first urban pattern jotuum I've seen. I also like the subtle squad coloration for the forge guard, nice touch.
So this is Heisenberg SPEC.T.E.R's special forces scout on his trusty monocycle designation number P4L-3 H0r-53 which he affectionately refers to as Binky because he seems to think "its a nice name"
@JaydeeOT - Why don't you try something new, like painting something badly? Whatever happened to slapdash rush jobs to get models painted and on the gaming table as quickly as possible? All this high quality nonsense is getting really old.
Seriously, I always love your stuff. Great job on the bike.
Cheers everybody, I try my best to please as for the Pathfinder being a lady... to be honest I'm not sure, the casting details are a bit ambiguous so they could be a lady or a skinny guy. I guess they could always be Elisabeth Heisenberg heh
JaydeeOT's awesome biker provided just the inspiration I needed. I finished the last touches on the last two enforcers from the starter box. It's nowhere near as good as his, but I'm proud of it.
Here are the single shots of the captain and assault enforcer:
Nice stuff, I'm actually thinking of doing a second enforcer squad in black armour with a small red and white logo on the chest piece, they'll be a private enforcer army in the employment of Para-sol Corp a shady corporation that deals in pharmaceutics and cosmetics but make most of their money on arms deals and biological weapons
Dorrand wrote: That green armor on the rebs is really nice. I hope you don't mind, I may try that blade design on my teraton when I get around to painting it.
Thanks for the kind words!
Go for it I didn't invent the technique in any case, I found it in a tutorial a while ago
My Deadzone Marauders (Orx) I had a bunch of left over colors for Germans. So to make them fluffy I came up with a back story that their leader only read the first half of WW2 and determined that Hitler was the greatest military commander of all time and made his ban of Orx into the new 3eed Reiked. He even tattooed Hitlers stash on his face =P
Rumours of my demise have been greatly exaggerated I've just been extremely busy for multiple side projects of late but I've managed to find a bit of time to paint my first forge father forge guard, hopefully the rest will be easier now i have a colour scheme in mind.
A group of Rebs end up going head to head with a lone forge father in the mountains..... "Dont you know who I am?....."
Cheers, I figured that since the forge fathers are dwarves and excel at mining i figured a scheme that was very heavy on metallics would be more fitting
yeah I really struggled with the paint scheme there is quite a few areas on the Forge guard that don't seem to make sense or flow smoothly from one part of the model to another so it was difficult to see what some things actually were, (I still don't know what some of the accessories or armour plates are) but if you want to use my colour palette go ahead.
Going to take a wee break and paint some other bits as the camo is quite annoying to paint, but when I get back to it I have a Peacekeeper lined up to be the next Enforcer painted.
Just joined and Deadzone stuff is the newest stuff I have painted up so heres my Enforcers team, the start of my Oorx and the start of the Zombie horde.
Really gakky time of day to take photos and I can't get the light right, but I was heading out and on a deadline for the competition I paint in. A few things need a touch up though, paint just refuses to stick to metal minis, even Vallejo primer just comes right off in my hands, part of why I prefer plastic, resin and even restic to metal in 95% of all circumstances.
Spoiler:
Bjarn Starnafall
Sgt. Howlett
Chief Radgrad
Aqissiaq
The Survivor
Nem Rath
Boomer
Chovar Psychic
Eddak P'Meara
Hard to paint, and harder to photograph Australian flag on the shoulder of the Survivor for the monthly competition challenge
Nice work all around, NTrabbit. The Sphyr plague is my favorite (her name was changed at some point and now I can't remember what it ended up as). Dusky, dingy, wasted looking blue flesh for a nice understated look that suits the figure better than any other scheme I've seen so far. She comes off as a credible threat, not cartoony or garish.
I feel bad; as the creator of this 46 page monstrosity, I haven't been posting!
Nice job, all around, I need to get back into my Deadzone. I've actually gone a bit heretical and been painting my Warriors of Chaos for Warhammer 8th edition and 6th edition!!
Almost there, one more model to go, I figured i would take a break from doing the regular Forge guard armour and get the Huscarl done.... FORWARD FOR THE FORGE!!!
And a bit more:
. A pair of test Zombies for my DZ diorama, speed-painted but hopefully still decent. Not yet decided how they'll be based.
I'll need a least a dozen of these blighters for the dio, and 2-3 times that many if I ever want to play solo DZ, so I needed something easily replicated and fast. Lots of washes and drybushes, and I used glossy-ish paint for the flesh as a) its creepy and b) it doesn't need much highlighting.
And to kick their asses, an Enforcer Assault Trooper. The head is a spare Sefadu one that I see as the Enforcer equivalent of a MkVI 'beaky', the jetpack plumes are those leaves I bought for the KemVar glued to wire and painted over.
I'm still working on a decent all round board to play my deadzone games, I need to work out what are some of the best all round useful and interesting scenery combinations with the scenery tiles, while we wait for the new kits to be released how about everybody shares some of their best scenery builds for their deadzone games?
3 buildings done, got one last building to do which will be a large landing pad.
And a few close up shots, Forge Fathers make their way through a ruined settlement looking for abandoned loot unaware that Enforcers are still active in this sector:
The SPEC.T.E.R sniper wraith lines up for a shot on the leader of the heavily armoured squad.
Thanks, yeah the ruined sections are fantastic, really give a lot of customization options, make the board a little more open and generally look pretty awesome.
I painted some of the old restic corporation marines. I had an idea to paint them closer to ersatz Elysian Drop Troops. I was pleasantly surprised with the results.
I feel terrible, I haven't touched any Deadzone stuff in a while. Comes from kicking the crap out of my normal war game opponents (who usually appreciate a challenge) and nobody will play me anymore!
13 more zombies, 'civilians' I guess, and a peacekeeper. Half of the Z's are wargames factory zombie vixens but I had a photo of the whole batch so that's that. One or two of them have parts mixed between both kits.
I like the eyes and I absolutely love the blades and OSL on the enforcers. I wish I could do that. I'm not sure how I feel about the mono-yellow/brown guns though. I almost want the color to be broken up a little more. Out of curiosity was there an inspiration for that color scheme?
Deadzone was my project this summer. I built what I consider a pretty solid set of terrain and finished 250 points of Plague. Might be doing a Rebs team next year.
