Was at my local Dollar Tree yesterday, thinking on cheap Halloween stuff, and was able to get
Skeletal Bat
Skeletal Bird
Skeletal Lizard
4 human skeletons in a good size
and
Skeletal Spider .. which bothered me no end and almost threw off my thinking for hours.. cause spiders dont HAVE them..
however, its fantasy, things can happen, and have kinda decided to break the legs off and use them to make fencing or something, .. the bat and lizard will make a dead dragon, and not sure what the bird will do, but it looked interesting as heck
and .. even if the Dollar Tree is now the Buck and a Quarter Store, I spent about 10 bucks and that aint bad

Usually the problem with using toys from movies and TV is that they are too recognizable and ruin emersion.
But since no one will remember Avatar 2: The Beach in a few months there's no worry this time.
That's often the case, I have a Terminator flyer that's cool as heck, but it's so darn Terminator.
The Avatar thing though seems fairly generic military. Paint it up in a notably different paint scheme and I'm not even sure folks would thing "Avatar" when they see it.

Nice Score! I've got to get some of those skeletons.
I was as critical as anyone of the increase to $1.25 but it really does seem like the quantity of useful stuff for games has gone up since the price range. Especially in the craft section.
Paw Patrol Air Patroller. I saw this in the window of a (closed) charity shop, and when I went back it had been sold. Found another on eBay for £6.
This is one of the nicest Osprey-ish VTOLs I've seen. I'd say it's around 330mm / 14" long and about the same wingspan. Tiltrotors tilt, canopy flips open, and there's a ramp at the back that you could imagine a small tank coming down. There appear to be LEDs in the wings too, though I've not figured out where the batteries go yet...
Passing through Walmart the other evening I saw a kid holding a Star Wars Imperial Troop Transport from whatever their new Mico Collection of vehicles is.
The Stormtroopers are tiny.
But the vehicle looked to be a very nice size - for grots.
Maybe my grots will be getting a new truck....
Next time I'm though WM I'll have to swing by the toy aisles & check it out.

Not the adults who build them as a hobby. I’m talking about the product that pushes out all the other tie in toys and somehow became the one type of toy people buy for kids’ birthdays.

They'll be at least half off on Nov 1 (maybe earlier), but you'll only get what ever's left.
Kids toy boar with wings and a tail from toy dragons. Made to have a flying pig. I'm probably going to use it as a Major Demon in Frostgrave as a Faerie pig bestowing it's blessings amuse me.

I love dollar tree. They have LAs totally awesome which is excellent paint stripping agent.
A few updates for you shoppers at Target.
Found the Lighyear Armadillos on deep discount at Target. Bought 2. If anyone wants one, get in touch and we'll make a deal well under retail.
Also, It looks like they're closing out the Jada GI Joe vehicles. Never could find a Hiss, and I already had the Vamp, but I picked up the Stinger for $5. The Metal Cobra Commander it comes with is kind of crude and around 35mm tall, but the Vehicle is spot-on for 28-30mm.
Lastly, the set below appeared at WalMart. Even though -like most of these playsets- it's really designed as a display piece and the building is likely hollow, there's lots of potential here. Only $25 bucks IIRC. I didn't see any evidence that the subway car has an interior or is openable, but it's still a pretty cool unit. The figures are probably the same 35mm ish scale that the rest of the Jada Nano Metalfigs tend to be.
BobtheInquisitor wrote: Side note: does anyone know where I can get a small shipping box, like 3-4 inches per side?
Okay, so per the USPS website the minimum package dimensions they accept are: 6" x 3" x 0.25"
That being said, I've shipped hundreds of packages with sizes of 4" x 4" x 4" and 4" x 4" x 3"
I usually drop them in the mail box ever since a postal employee advised me that they were too small. Which was after about 5 years of using that size box to ship items. Still have about 100 boxes left to work though, but I've since upgraded to 7" x 4" x 2" to avoid the issue in the future.
That being said, for purchasing boxes I usually look on Amazon (for bulk purchases), or Home Depot/Lowes (and have them shipped to the store).
Here are some examples (I can't speak the quality of any of them), but keep in mind that not all boxes are made of the same stuff. There are some that are thin-walled that are not as sturdy as others. It kind of depends on what you're shipping and how fragile it is.
Figure out what size you want and do searches for them on the main sites for that kind of stuff to compare price and availability. Amazon, Home Depot, Lowes, Staples, Walmart, Target, etc.
Ha!
I was just about to post those but you beat me to it.
Those 1/72ish reissues of Marx landing craft are smaller than 28mm scale as it can only fit one squad rather than a whole pain. However, the cockpit is about right for 28mm and Ithink the covered MG position gives it a nice Wierd WW2 vibe.
I'm probably going to just give mine a coat of grey and then use them as terrain if we ever get back to playing K47.
This Is actually spot on accurate for a 1/32 LCVP Higgins boat, which is designed to move a platoon of troops and a jeep. However, in 28mm (1/56) it'd be a fine stand in for a LCMV which were larger and designed to move troops and tanks.
I don't have one, but I'm tempted every time I see one at my local hobby shop that stocks this sort of thing. At over a foot long, it's really big.
I actually bought the larger Higgins boat years ago but it was too small for a Rhino or Chimera. It would work fine for troops in a coastal landing type 28mm game though.
Stubby wings, some sort of jet looking thing. A few boxes.
Cargo fliers?
Perhaps. I think there's alot of potential to be a cargo skimmer like SW. However, it is made of Polyethylene and it can be tough to get things to stick to it. I've had pretty good luck with sanding the surfaces and using a rubberized superglue, and with the wonderfully toxic plumbers solvent adhesive.
I will convert with soft plastic if I have too, but generally I prefer to just paint as-is and save my conversion time for more amenable materials.

If you've still got it, I'd love to see some shots with troops. I have a fair number of norrower sci-fi armored vehicles that would probably fit inside pretty well. I wonder if 1/56 tanks would fit, they're not very wide compared to GW.
The TimMee M48's I linked to earlier (Sold for 1/32 toy soldiers, but much closer to 1/56 or 1/48) are bigger than most ww2 tanks and it looks like they'd fit.
I just realized today via your post that BMC and TImMee post scale shots now. That's really usefull.
I'm pretty sure I've posted this pic before, but here's what the classic TimMee (and clone) M48's look like next to 28mm models. It's actually only a smidge oversized as the M48 dwarfs the Cromwell in real life also.
Kid_Kyoto wrote: Sorry I don't have it anymore, it was 2 countries ago.
Maybe I'll just have to buy one...
I think it's time I dug out all the various army man toys I've got in my to-be-terrain boxes and did a blog post with scale shots for them. I'm pretty sure I've got that amphibious boat somewhere also.
Not only is it a holiday Storm Trooper, but we get this fluff text
Star Wars The Black Series | First Order Stormtrooper (Holiday Edition)
Members of this new generation of stormtroopers are trained from birth, growing up with unit designations instead of names and fed a steady diet of First Order propaganda to ensure loyalty.
Kids and collectors alike can imagine the biggest battles and missions in the Star Wars saga with figures from Star Wars The Black Series! With exquisite features and decoration, this series embodies the quality and realism that Star Wars devotees love. Star Wars The Black Series includes figures, vehicles, and roleplay items from the 40-plus-year legacy of the Star Wars Galaxy, including comics, movies, and animated series.
Nothing says Christmas Spirit quite like brainwashed Space Nazis.
This is the sort of thing that a subversive artist might create as a statement on commercialism but nope, it's a sincere attempt to sell us more crap.
And y'know, I could forgive it if it was a First Order Strom Trooper (Life Day Edition), that at least would show some amount of self consciousness.
Not sure where else to put this, but we are looking to rehome this toy. Seems like it could make some good terrain. It’s yours for the cost of shipping. I’ll pack it in the smallest Amazon box it will fit inside.
I think It folds out to represent Jaku as one of a couple environments in the playset.

Just picked this up at Menards. A nicely sized panel truck and cheap forklift for 5 bucks! The wookie in the picture is 34mm (size of a 1/48 human) so the truck looks spot on for 1/56, maybe sightly smaller. Cargo doors open on rear and side and figures can stand upright inside. I'm going to remove or paint over the Menards signage.
Has some decent Water Caste possibilities re: Necro / Ash Wastes even
Chop off the propeller on the back and it should be fine in the Ash Wastes, picking through the debris of past civilizations.
That crab suit is giving me major classic Bubblegum Crisis vibes. That one episode with the coolest crab mech that ever meched. (Episode 7: Double Vision.)
On a slightly more helpful note, here in Australia, I keep finding cheap trucks and cars of reasonable size in grocery shops and post offices. Maybe a little small by today's GW standards, but good for Gorkamorka, particularly Diggas (who need canopies to cope with that hot bright fing in da sky).
I've seen some of that stuff on eBay before. The vehicles are really chunky, almost like chibi versions of combat vehicles. If one could find the terrain stuff that went with them (Platformer/Hexagon kits), that stuff would probably be useful for Necromunda or something.
It's been on Amazon for a while, looks like less than before, but I recognize that big lot. I bought a couple packs of the soft plastic Minotaurs separately a while back that I'd be willing to part with now that I decided to go a different direction.
All (except the Mantic Mule, included for scale) are Lightyear Hyperspeed Series vehicles.
The large ship is perfect for a Stih ship in my opinion. The fighters are good for one man fighters like an A Wing or perhaps, UAVs if you remove the cockpit.
The drop pods would serve fairly well as cheaper alternatives to the Kill Team escape pods I think. I haven't done a direct comparison, but a Primaris Marine would fit in one of these.
As noted, I put a Mantic Mule, and an SW Legion figure (on top of the green truck) to give an idea of scale.

That's a great comparison, thanks!
Reminds me that I should probably pick up the green truck.
Those doll houses look like they'd have potential if they're styrene. I eventually threw out the Dollar Tree ones because the Polyethylene was so paint resistant even after deep cleaning.
Menards has a $5 Ford Transit in 1/48 scale. Here it is next to the Caipo (Ali Express) version which is still available for not much more. If you want to do some modern or near future conflict almost anywhere in the world, you need some streamlined cargo vans.
Figure is 31mm from sole to eyeline.
Thanks for the generous offer, but I'll have to decline. The postage for stuff from the US (plus the almost guaranteed import charge which will also include a bogus £8.99 "handling fee" from the Royal Mail..) makes that $10 mount up far too quickly.

No worries,
It's open to anyone interested, though it's a narrow swathe of people for whom it would be worthwhile. Here in the states they're still quite cheap I think. I've just got alot of toy vehicles and this is one I probably don't need 2 (or was it 3...) of.
The bigger Armadillo now on general release, spotted for 30€ ish in the EU
Scrolling back I sadly prefer the Target exclusive one, a better fit for 28mm
I keep watching this ship. If it goes on super sale after Christmas, I'll be getting one. It's the perfect thing for the Star Wars and Halo figures my son and I like.
I designed and printed a few guns for the Lightyear Hyperspeed ships. I've put them on Thingiverse for anyone that's interested. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5714595
I love it when they print alternate language versions of things on packaging, and the alternate version is just the same as the English version. I mean, why bother?
For folks with a Walmart nearby, this just got price dropped to $15. We've Discussed this before, but for those wondering, the Nano Metalfigs figures supplied are about 34mm.
Playmobil isn't the company that springs to mind when I think of toys aimed at adults but I'm not surprised by this and I bet the Venn diagram is larger than you think
I've read several different ways of crunching the numbers but it looks like at least 14% of the US toy market is those over 18 and it's been growing.
https://www.tfp.org/why-is-the-toy-market-targeting-adults/ Playmobil seems to be tentatively following the lead of LEGO who has been going gangbusters in this segment for over a decade.
Scale is much too big. Look at Wargames Exclusive or die cast toy limos.

Oh I don't doubt that adults buy toys.
It's just that when I think of the elegance and posh of James Bond, Playmobil is not the brand that comes to mind.
Playmobil can be a nice starting point for terrain
I've got a bunch of the plastic desert rocks I textured and painted and they've been in use for over a decade. I keep seeing the gladiator arena in pop up on people's tables. Also I've got the pirate island without any other parts in the garage awaiting use someday...
I think the Ven Diagram of "People who buy $50 Playmobil cars" and "James Bond fans" is 2 circles about 10' apart.
I noticed that when I blundered across a Playmobil Star Trek crew 4-pack with Kirk, Bones, Spock and Uhura.
I was soooo tempted to add both to the basket! I definitely draw the line at the bluetooth enabled Enterprise that Playmobil pushed out.

The police station converted into an Arbites Precinct features earlier in this thread.
The various Coliseum and Olympus playsets have potential as well.
An interesting discovery my son and I just made.
Bandai has an affordable "30 minute Missions" series. Kind of Like HG Gunpla in size, but a bit more military looking and very modular for customizing and reassembly. Almost like zoids modularity with a fair amount of utility for wargame kitbashing.
https://bandai-hobby.net/site/30minutes_missions/ I just picked this guy up to be a loader bot for my spaceport. He's about 5 inches tall or so.
https://bandaihobby.hatenablog.com/entry/2022/05/19/160000?
Turns out that the many holes they have for attaching gear are the same size as the pegs on many of the mech and gear accessories for the DollarTree "Final Faction" Line. Most of which can be seen here:
https://www.dollartree.com/searchresults?Ntt=faction To be clear, the action figure weapons don't fit and the backpacks are a different size peg, but my son reports that almost all the other gear and such with peg attachment (especially the mech parts) is compatible. The one thing we might do is cut a few of the pegs a touch shorter so the gear sits closer to the Bandai figs.
Great pics. Just got my truck today, will be an excellent addition to my sci Fi terrain. I agree that semi-failed toy lines like light-year hit the sweet spot for clearance prices and availability. Bought two packs of the drop pods for 7 bucks each also off Amazon.
Found the Avatar sets in store today. Didn't buy any, but I measured and the figures they come with are about 38mm sole to eye and all the vehicles look fantastic for 28-34mm gaming.
Looks like a good 1 man VTOL, city flier sort of thing.
Looks like the others are rereleases with some paint changes and spring loaded missile launchers on the bottom, like the Armadillo that got the big grabby claw.
8 unpainted HO scale (1/87) plastic cargo crates for $20. 40k is 28mm/O scale/1/48 give or take but these should still work. At 3cm/30mm tallx70mm long they'll screen most models.
The same page also has 40' (in scale) crates that should be 140mm long.
HO shipping containers are good for scatter terrain crates but they may be smaller than you think. Later today. I'll snap a pic next to one for scale.
If one is in need of cheap shipping containers accurately scaled in 28mm, these are my favorite:
https://crossoverminiatures.com/product/economy-shipping-containers-28mm-scale-mdf-4/ 4 twenty footers for 15 bucks is hard to beat and the deal gets better the more you buy. Not the most detailed, but nicely done and very sturdy. Here's mine after a very quick paint job.
I agree. I think though that KidKyoto is looking at them as shipping crates rather than Shipping containers. For that purpose they'd probably be pretty good in the 20' length though the 40'ers would look weird. Still haven't had a chance to get pics. Will try tomorrow. I've got a ton of HO 20' containers.
HO stuff in wargaming scales varies. Some larger industrial structures such as engine sheds (I have one of these converted up) can look pretty good in 28mm if you resize or remove pedestrian doorways. Generally though they are best for 20mm or 15mm as they sit right between those two scales.
For 28mm-34mm O Scale (1/48) is generally a good match. S scale (1/64) can be good for some structures and larger vehicles, though it looks comically small for most autos.
Those Reaper cans look great. What's the height on them? They almost look like 1/64 which is a pretty good compressed size for 28mm gaming.
Here's Lionel "intermodal" containers (actually just removable van trailer bodies). They're about 1/64 and intended for use with compressed-scale 0-27 trains.
They're fairly affordable on eBay as most O Gauge railroaders want something closer to scale.
Threw this together just now. Older Infinity figs for comparison.
For reference, a standard shipping container is 8.5 feet tall. That translates to a bit less than 2 inches for 28mm, so anything around 2 inches or 50mm seems to be standard and works very well. Especially since we're usually dealing with heroic figs on bases
In the picture below the brown one second from the right is the Reaper. It and the three to its left are spot on for 28mm. The next two (Lionel Cola and MNU) are about 1/64 (S Scale) the three on the far left are 20', 40' and 53' HO scale (1/87). Based on height, the long white on the far right is a 1/48 container that comes to about 48 scale feet.
Looks like I was wrong about the Reaper which is 28mm and the HO 20' cans which look like they would make great cargo crates.
Gonna throw this out there. This weekend I'm selling a batch of mostly die cast stuff ranging from 1/48 to 1/38 at a model sale. Very reasonable prices. A few semis and some cars including the white can and the semi and trailer that go with it. If anyone wants dibs before then, send me a PM.
Kid_Kyoto wrote: You mean the stacks of orange canisters in the background?
Coke bottle tops glued together.
Those are cool looking.
I meant "Cans" as in slang for shipping containers. I assumed the Reapers were undersize from the pictures, but I measured one It turned out I had and it looks like they're spot on for heroic 28mm.
Might be a bit small for 28mm but I could work as terrain for Star Wars board.
Tempted to add it to my Space Port but I'm running out of storage space and it would take a lot of work to make it look like it's not the Millennium Falcon if that makes sense.
Found this at the dollar store here for 2,50$! This one was sold in a fishnet bag, but there was some other kit in a box with more accessory.
After about an hour and a half of painting, I think look pretty good! They are ment to be taken apart with the big screw you see around, so doubly easy to paint tbe parts!
I will definitely go pick the rest of the line I saw there!
That's a good deal for the falcon.
I feel the same on all counts. In many cases this smaller scale is better for tabletop use as it's compressed to a reasonable size. However, likewise I won't be picking it up as there are plenty of less iconic spacecraft in my queue.
I went back to the dollar store, but sadly I could not find the boxed set I posted above with vehicle and crane and stuff. Oddly, it was gone from the shelf entirely. There was still stand-alone truck though so I picked up the two other variant that I saw.
Gonna have to go around and see if I can get those box set!
A while back I noted that the die cast Light-year vehicles were at Dollar tree. While the rest are ships in much smaller scales, the truck might be big enough to work in 28mm wargaming.
Clearly on the small side but I think it's fine as a bit of scenery in a skirmish games. Sort of a space Kei Truck. Not bad for a buck!
Kid_Kyoto wrote: We need to petition Disney for more Lightyear toys!
It's a nice thought, but seeing these at the Dollar Tree and Lightyear stuff on deep discount elsewhere is a pretty strong indicator the market isn't there.
At least we've got Avatar toys from the current film and who knows what we might get from the next films projected for 2024, '26 and '28.
Oh I know, but I imagine the chaos it would cause in Disney's planning offices to start getting letters from Timmy, age 46, that he needs more Lightyear toys NOW!
I picked up an Avatar RDA Sea-wasp today. It's a nice size for 28mm. It's going on one of my infinity tables. The pilot inside is a little small, but paint the canopy and it's close enough to work for a 28mm aircraft.

Is the pilot inside removable? I'd love to see a scale pic next to an Infinity miniature.
The canopy doesn't open (compared to the Lightyear hyperspeed stuff) and from what I can tell, the pilot is also not removable. With some careful fret saw work, you might be able to remove the canopy (Or you could just take all the screws out, I guess).
A shot of a spare Infinity pilot figure next to the fore end of the aircraft.
And from above, showing the length of the cockpit. It's a tight fit, but you *could* fit a human in a flight suit into it. Not that fightercraft are known for being especially roomy - I think only an F1 car is less roomy (in that the steering wheel has to come off so that the driver can get into them). Pilot is resting on one of the forward canards.
Thanks for the pics. That looks pretty good to me. I've got no problem with aircraft and their pilots being a bit compressed in size. With toys like this, I routinely remove the screws for disassembly and easier painting. In this case it'd be nice to paint the pilot or replace it.
I just realized that neither gunship has a removable pilot like the Mecha do. That's disappointing.
I did remove a whole chunk of the weapons from it (it's not going up against tanks in infinity (so 16 hellfire missiles aren't a necessity). The 4 ffar pods and the chaingun in the nose should be sufficient.
Micro Galaxy is pretty cool, but it's pretty much all in the 15-20mm scale with figs that are around 20mm.
The good news is that 20mm (1/72) is a game-able scale. There's quite a bit of older micro machines figures and "Action Fleet" (like Galaxy Squadron but from the 90s) in that size and there are 3d printers that will make that size figures for you at a reasonable cost.
If someone really wants a 28mm 'ish snowspeeder, the Bandai 1/48 kit is out there. Supposed to be 30 bucks but prices are shooting up as it's OOP at the moment. Also, there's a cheaper, now OOP Revell 1/52 kit that you can usually find for around 25 bucks.
Figures pictured are 28mm Stargrave and the included 38mm'ish(1/43) Destro who seems to be the same scale as an the other "Nano Metalfigs" lines. Tank comparison is a 1/56 Warlord Cromwell. Separate turret push fits in. Cockpit would be fine for a true scale 28mm pilot.
It's not a large vehicle by any means. Sort of a light tank with a single pilot cockpit. Compared to the original toy and art, it looks to be darn near true scale 28mm. Just to make things even more confusing, Jada calls the line 1:32 which is neither the case for the 1/43 figures that are included with the vehicles nor the vehicles themselves that range from approx 1/56'ish for the Hiss to possibly as large as 1/48 for the Stinger/VAMP. For 10 buck vehicles though as nice as these though, I'll forgive the mistake.
Dang that's cool. I've still got a small suitcase full of "Action Fleet" vehicles from when I was a kid. Micro Galaxy Squadron has taken that size and scale and done fantastic things with it. If I wasn't already a 3.75" fan and a wargamer I'd be really tempted to collect them.
I wonder how many of those Lightyear Armadillo ships actually sold to kids vs how many have ended up as wargame terrain. Ive got 2. You guys have heaps. We probably account for more than half of sales.

Toys are wasted on children. They may just break them rather than delicately hack them apart and convert them to other play purposes.
In the long run, Disney cares not from where the money flows.
HISS dimensions.
Length 11.5cm/4.68in
Width 5cm/2in
Height to top of hull (not counting the gun or wheels protruding from bottom) 6cm/2.3cm
The effective size is even smaller when you realize the hull itself is significantly narrower and shorter and when you consider the shape and the massive treads.
The closest possibility might be a predator without sponsors. Maybe a razorback, but it's hard to imagine more than 2 marines inside.
As the pics below show the width is the big difference.

I have three 3D printed ones from eBay that I have tooled up with the plastic autocannons.
What I don't know is if their old statlines have been moved across and updated or if the entries now only exist in the 'no old rules included' versions on Warhammer+
For a variety of heavy weapons options search "Brick Machine Gun" on Ali Express.
Here's a dealer that sells multi packs of the same weapons for less than a buck each.

In addition to size, one advantage to the Lego style weapons is that ABS takes paint better than the polyethylene most army men toys are made of.
It might not be impossible to pass as a Predator or Chimera.
Eilif wrote:HISS dimensions.
Thanks all for the info and size!
From the various pics, the Hiss seems to be a decent length/height, but might come short on the width. A friend of mine want to do Cobra Imperial Guards army, and I think those models might work. A bit smaller in some way no matter what they'll be proxy-ing, but I think they could look awesome once added to a full army! Worse come to worse, they could be a stand-in for Sentinels
At least in our gaming group, they would not pose an issue standing as a Chimera/Taurox/Sentinels or anything sinilar!
Found this at the 100 yen shop. I think it would work well for its intended purpose of showcasing models, but I think I plan on using them for terrain pieces. Some minor chopping and shaving and these will make great walls and what-nots for less than a dollar a section.
I've got 4 of the drop pods. I don't know that they'll make it into Grimdark/4dkay, but they'll likely be great for creating a deployment zone in other skrimish games.
Seeing them in use above I'll probably try and keep them relatively scale-less as they could also serve in 10mm Mech combat games.

Wow, that's the best thing I think I've seen in here. I wish they could be so readily found here in the UK.
aphyon wrote: I think the toy is 32mm instead of 28mm it looks a little out of sclae with the old Djanbzan designs but it is still a great addition.
Thanks for that! Looks like it's probably actually closer to 1/32, as a human stands considerably taller than a spinner which is itself not a terribly large car.
Still it's a great looking craft and I'd be happy to put it on my 28mm table. I refuse to be a stickler for the sizes futuristic automobiles!
Did you make those tarped crate stacks? They look pretty cool. Reminds me of the foil-cast destroyed mech markers I made a while back.

Oh my God, I love it. I would have bought an unhealthy amount of those at that price!
"Chain base" modules that are 6"x6"x6" that lock together, ostensibly scaled for around 1:!44. I turned a couple of them into a display base for my infinity stuff (adding parts of a couple of other gaming/model sets. The catwalks were from the IMEX "syberclicks" range, the rails from "Hexagon" and the other wall was 3"x3" panels from mantic.

They are part of a collection of old JR miniatures resin cast terrain i managed to aquire over the years. i use quite a bit of it for infinity as they had an extensive scifi collection of buildings and scatter terrain. obviously now you can access all sorts of 3d printed style appropriate terrain from designers like corvus, dragons rest, forbidden prints district 12/industrial lines and the like-

I bought the four they had. I checked back a couple days ago and they have something else in the spot where I found them so I doubt they will be restocked. I might try another location to see if I can find more.
Hot Wheels has Lightyear Armadillos.Just a bit small for 15MM but I think if you put it on a base and step away it works.
Are you familiar with Father Ted's "These are small, but the ones out there are far away" line when trying to make his Priest colleague understand the difference between the toy animals in his hand and the real ones out if the field?
That is the finest joke in the history of television. And the best bit is that it deliberately provides no context as to why Ted is needing to explain it I love it so much!

Even better, the Island Priests are available from Crooked Dice.
L to R.
Standard Hot Wheels. Best for 6mm, maybe up to 10mm
Large Hot Wheels. good for 10-15mm
Lightspeed series. 20mm and up, though as we've seen there are some impressive conversions to small scales as well.

Ha!
I'm watching it but it's still around 40 bucks. If it dips below 30 I'll pick one up.
My son loves these vehicles for his star wars figures as they don't seem to make SW vehicles in 3.75" scale anymore. We've got the Lightyear truck and picked up the fighter last week at half off.
Not great toys but the proton pack struck me as a nice lump of plastic for £3.37
Here it is horizontally with some 28mm figures for scale, I think it makes a cool industrial scenic piece. Just a little extra greebling and a few scale breaking details (fake screw heads etc) to obscure, a dirty paint job and it can hit the table
Since this one arrived I’ve ordered a second, and also some of the blasters just in case they’ll make good industrial chimneys or spaceship parts.

Surely there must be somewhere in the States that carries that...
For my addition, I've been thinking about this bunker. It's only detailed on one side but if you close it up, add a roof and some statues it would be an interesting brutalist Imperial building.
Yeah not hard to make it out of foam core but at $13 might be worth the effort saved.

Hell, you can find several light expanding foams to fill that out with. It actually would make a decent fort for a mini-siege in WFB. Think Rorke's Drift but with Beastmen assaulting Dwarfs or Empire or whatnot. I'm pretty sure I could whip up that scenario in a heartbeat...
The BMC bunker is a classic. Just know that you'll probably have to raise the for to get your minis to the level of the firing holes as it's built for 54mm figures.

Unfortunately I'm six weeks away from being able to provide a "which is small and which is far away" photo as one of each is currently waiting at home for me.
Menards is at it again ...
1947 Dodge Power Wagon and 1958 Plymouth Fury are $5 each and also available in a bunch of different paints.
Hummer is only 3 bucks and is also available in open bed and traditional enclosed cab (with TOW launcher) configurations.
Smokestack wrote: Saw this on clearance at TJ Max. Looked like the speeder would scale nicely with the starwars minis i have... and yup. Pretty close.
Yeah, they had scout trooper bikes in the same scale back in the day that were for a time easier to get a hold of than the WotC ones... Might have to see if I can track down that Mando set locally.
Seeing as we all seem to love the Lightyear toys, especially the different flavours of Armadillo and the Zerg ships, here's some Youtube hosted inspiration.
First you can reenact the scene where the Flash assaults several people and is then brought to justice by Batman because in a superhero world being rich and famous is no protection from the law.
I believe I've mentioned the Dollar Tree store proprietary "Final Faction" action figure line, but that was regarding mecha and accessory packs. The Kharn alien force has some great options for bug type aliens too. Possible Tyranid applications?
-Crawler bugs come in a 2-pack
-Huntra. Tail has a launcher which I removed for the picture
-Decimator
-Synthoid. Pretty big but cool shape.
Interesting mix. Decimator And Synthoid share the same arm sockets and they can be swapped with each other or the Synthoid weapons pack.
At $7 you can almost get 10 for the price of one GSC Ridgerunner.
I bought the Decepticon patrol car when the first Transformers movie was released. The Enforcers will look appropriate when painted in a black/white scheme.

Guess it's up to me.
Imperial ground transport thing (the old Sears toy)
Bad batch shuttle
Imperial Lambda Shuttle
At-At (comes with speeder bikes!)
With more news from Series 5 to come.
YES!!!! Anakin's Jedi starfighter from the Clone Wars cartoon!
I'm hoping the AT-AT is affordable enough I can put together a Blizzard Force vs. Snowspeeders for a Star Wars miniatures game.
They also need to come out with a TIE Defender - that's the only ship I don't have from the old Action Fleet. I'd so like to do X-Wing at Action Fleet scale - I did one yeaaars ago at a Con with Star Warriors and a Death Star battle.

The Crawler bugs and Huntra could make decent Tyranid Bio-Titans for Epic or Adeptus Titanicus.
Have the Star Troopers toys been mentioned in this thread? They're fairly cheap and include some cool-looking alien bugs. Bendy plastic, but eh. I grabbed one to use as a whip scorpion in Gorkamorka.

I've been keeping tabs on them online, but I've yet to see them for sale in a store. Some good looking bugs though.
7 wooden hexagons that stack. Add some doors and grubbings from the Maelstrom's Edge terrain sprue and you've got some nice wooden bunkers that should be easy to store.
Plenty of use in Post Apoc or Eastern Bloc use also as the very similar Studebaker duce and a half was nearly-cloned into the Soviet trucks that were manufactured into the 90's.
Today I also found Another 3 buck Menards truck.
Unspecified 80's custom van. Possibly a GMC Vandura like the A-Team had. Has opening front and rear doors. Available in black, orange, and green versions of the same flame scheme.
Ripe for Post Apocalypse or Super Hero gaming I think. 28/30mm Aquaman for scale.
A fairly high tech looking truck for exploring the badlands or just delivering an order of organs to the body bank. I'm not sure about the scale but at 7"x2" it should look OK with 28mm figures.
The Mission Fleet line continues to deliver some great ships. I'm considering a couple of them to stash away with all the figures I've got set aside for my "Someday" 28mm Star Wars Project.
The Thundercats vehicle really shows the downside of the upsizing of action figures. Big vehicles and playsets for 3.75" figures were never cheap but they were at least manageable, However, when you double the height of the figure, you quadruple the size (and apparently the price) of the toys.

To me, discussions about toy soldiers can cause a very limited amount of grief. Not quite like commenting on the amorous skills of someone's mother.
However, this IS, after all, a forum about toy soldiers, or military miniatures, or whatever one prefers to calls them, so maybe I overstepped a line.
So, if I caused any hurt feelings, it was unintentional, and I apologize. All friends.
Fair enough. No harm done.
I notice you're a bit newer to the forum so in the spirit of friendliness I'll offer one small piece of advice. Generally posts that are on the topic of a given thread and especially those that offer useful information are more appreciated than attempts at humor and sarcasm. This is specially the case if those attempts could be read as insulting/superior/dismissive/etc.
Welcome, and I hope your enjoy your time at Dakka.
I think what I like about this picture is that the Big Bad is off to the side, yet everyone is firing/focusing/pointing out other things, except for that one girl looking to the right who's about to say "Uhh... guys? Slow down! Mumm-Ra is right there!".
I usually avoid transformers for my 28mm Mecha. Too expensive and -except for a couple designs like the Macross licensed Starscream- too recognizable as transformers.
However, I found this guy for 3 bucks at a resale shop. 28mm Warlord Brit on the shoulder for scale.
The scale appropriate cockpit is what really sells it for me. Once that is remounted flush to the top of the mech, wings removed and a few other minor mods, this would be a convincing mech in the general style of the other Macross designs in my collection.
