I can only hope that Hasbro never does a HasLab to reproduce either the USS Flagg or the Technodrome. The monetary and space costs would be high, but the will to resist would be low...
The helicarrier I picked up in Egypt a few years back has made its way to the US.
It's a good size and a nice blocky cargo flier type thing.
Also...
Not just an ideal gift for kids age 3 4 5 6 7 8, This airplane airport toy model set will be developing practical early educational skills for kids.Get ready for thinking skills, shape recognition, creativity, hand eye coordination, motor skills, problem solving skills, and cognitive processes.
So if you know any 345,678 year old kids this is the ideal gift for them!
The off-brand SHIELD Helicarrier is pretty cool looking, and based on the picture it looks like it paints up decently. Next to the painted carrier I couldn't help but notice what looks like a grimdark-ified Starfleet runabout.

Toy collectors are a breed all their own. There are some who would happily pay that much for just the box some desirable toy came in. And would likely drop 10 grand for the actual toy.

They arent buying the box just for the sake if having the box. They'd buy it because having that box ups the resale value of their copy of the toy.
They'd buy it because having that box ups the resale value of their copy of the toy
This feels about as pointless as people obsessing over the value of their house while they're living in it with no intention of moving...
Buy things because you enjoy them, and enjoy having them, instead of worrying about what you can sell them for.
You do realize that
1: there's entire stores (both online & Brick & Mortar) who buy & sell old toys for a living, right?
(There's one about a mile down the street from my house infact!).
They will buy boxes, instructions, sticker sheets, parts, etc to increase the value of incomplete stuff they take in (that people bring in, yard sales. Estate sales. Trade...) it has nothing to do with enjoying having the thing & EVERYTHING to do with its sale price.
The more complete the toy, the higher the value they can ask. It's exactly the same as having a parts-matching vintage car.
2: There ARE collectors out there who get more enjoyment by having the box/etc for thier toy.
Again, just like being able to say you have a parts-matching car. Bragging rights - with the bonus that if you do ever need to sell....
I had some star wars style hover trucks 3d printed and i was looking for some other scifi cars in a similar scale-
Spoiler:
i picked up the blade runner 2040 spinner toy- pretty good quality
Spoiler:
So i decided to try and find the original police spinner in the same scale. i found a Christmas tree ornament and a model kit but they were not the right scale nor did i feel like painting.....so i ended up with this "not lego" kit-
Spoiler:
got it put together this week. turned out great. had to glue a few spots to keep it together but it turned out to be what i was after. the company has kits for a bunch of scifi movies/tv and games including battle tech mechs and space ships from the expanse, and mass effect for example.
OK, so went to the local Dollar Tree and picked up some of the Final Faction toys to play around with..
Kharn Rumbler and Poison Weapons pack
and the Human Arrow ATV and Weapons and Armor pack
With trusty Primaris Marine Pete standing in for scale, here is the parts layout
and
I had high hopes for the Arrow.. the Rumbler looked FAR to large, and I was right.
Rumbler has 5 components, and Arrow has a dozen.. took less than a minute to build the Rumbler, and 5 for the Arrow
Did not get into the weapons packs, after realizing the size issues
I had also gotten a Synthoid and weapon pack, and just left them alone
If anyone here WANTS these items, let me know, cause I am just not going to use them at all and would rather get them to someone who might than donate them to a thrift store.
However, the next post was a bit more exciting for me...

Wife texted me from Michaels that the Spooky Season plywood buildings were on sale for $6 instead of $10, so she picked me up a couple to play with.
So, came home with the Pumpkin Patch and the Haunted House buildings..
these look like they would be pretty darn scale for my Blackwater Gulch board, and I have little issue with breaking apart a $6 kit. They each have a small light in the base that can be popped out.. the only small issue I think I will have is that everything is glued togeather, so taking off the roofs might be tricky to try to move models around inside.
Just Tony wrote: How much was the Arrow? I can plate that and make my Ork Trukks for my Speed Freeks army.
the Arrow was $1.25.. the extra weapon pack, $1.25, the Rumbler, and the poison weapons, $1.25 each etc.
Let me send you a PM
$1.25?! From Dollar Tree? How can anyone afford this hobby anymore?
I found six of them two days ago, and the biggest complaint is the tire size. Suitably Orky, though, so I am fine with it. The coolest part is that you can assemble it with the tires and the flat chassis bottom which gives you the ability to customize it any way you want. My brother is already planning the build.

Using giant apes! Titano (from Heroclix)
Titano Primes (in white / grey) can be had cheap from TrollandToad for $5.39. They have the black versions for $8.
You can find better giant ape figures, but it's hard to find one at a better price, and you'll never find another one that comes with interchangeable heads, one with laser beam eyes.
King Kong with laser eyes for a hair over $5! How can you beat that?
There are a lot of good Heroclix figures out there for cheap. Only some are expensive and sought after.

I don't know how someone can honestly think that they look just as good as each other? There's a massive difference in detail and quality.
I was trying to be kind to the GW kit.
This thing is actually better when you account for the price. You can spend a couple of $s & get this poor/goofy looking thing, OR.... You can spend alot of $s & still wind up with a poor/goofy looking thing.
Plus this one comes assembled & looks like it has some degree of articulation!
With the Transformers One movie out, does anyone know if any of the cheaper ones might be usable as repainted generic future vehicles? I haven't done the pavement work yet but am wondering if, for instance, the Transformers One Cog Changers are scale to 28mm-32mm minis.
On my list of things to do one of these days is using some Halloween animal or monster skeletons to make versions of the desert skeleton from Star Wars.
Something iconic, alien, grimdark and it can be cover for a squad or two.
I use the tan for desert and the blue for water. They look great, are as protective of minis as a neoprene mat and can be stuffed and folded without worry.
Just ordered the green which my friend had used to nice effect as grasslands.
My wife got be a beige wool blanket from one of the historical reenactment festivals in the area, and I use that to great success. I've also had a military issue wool blanket ever since I went to 92G MOS school. Cannot recommend enough.
I'm picking up the green tie dye fabric today at JoAnnes. I'll post a pic with the color. My buddy had one years back that I think was the same that looked quite good for grassland. However, after I made my order another club member recently bought one and the color was a bit too bright. I'll let you all know.
EDIT
Just picked mint up and the green has WAAAY too much yellow.
I'm considering dying it or just having a bunch of fleece fabric to cushion my terrain boxes.
The Tan/beige one, however remains one of the best desert mats I've ever seen from any material. The print has a very nice natural look and the fleece texture gives the most sand-like appearance of anything other than real sand/balast (which can be murder on paint). It's 3d in a way you just can't get from printed neoprene.
Just Tony wrote: My wife got be a beige wool blanket from one of the historical reenactment festivals in the area, and I use that to great success. I've also had a military issue wool blanket ever since I went to 92G MOS school. Cannot recommend enough.
I love wool military blankets for wargame surfaces. I've got my Grandfather's green/brown blanket he used in WW2 that I sometimes use as a gaming surface. I think it's a nice, relatively low-impact, way to keep it useful while not risking alot of washing and damage to a family heirloom. I like seeing his name on the corner whenever I take it out.
I also have a grey-ish one of uncertain origin and tighter weave that actually makes a nice generic cement-like surface for an urban battle.
I appreciate the usefulness and detail that is achievable with neoprene mats and I have several, but I like to let folks know about some of the really nice and affordable options that are out there as well.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned these in the vast history of this thread, but Magna Tiles are fantastic options for snap together terrain. A quick coat of paint and some minor details and you're putting together fortresses before you know it.

I think they might have been, but it's been a while. I saw some very reasonably priced packs of a generic version (usually much cheaper than official "Magna Tiles") at Aldi last week.
A fellow on the Bedroom Battlefields discord has a really neat system whereby he glues them together into floors, but keeps the floors separate and stacks them in different configurations to make 4-sided tower setups like you see in old Necromunda pictures.

I am 100% agreed on that tan/beige fleece mat.. I have used mine at Origins for the last 10 years, still going strong and looking great

If you don't have kids, the generic versions will save you money, but they are poorer quality. Actual Manga Tiles have small rivets put into them so they basically never break. The generic Picaso tiles and other knock offs save money by not using these rivets, but that means if you drop them, then can come apart and the tiny magnets can pop out. Not a big deal for our uses, but dangerous if you're thinking of splitting a set with any young kids.
That's true, but I think you'd be pleasantly surprised at the durability of polyester polarfleece. It's quite strong and at least for snow and sand, it has a more realistic surface.
Another Fabric store option for concrete/asphalt is grey tablecloth material. I assume it's some sort of vinyl, but it's very sturdy and takes a drybrush well. I've used it for years for urban layouts.
With these beauties incoming, I think I'm going to purge a ship or two or more from the box of ship potential. Probably some soft plastic like the Hawkman ship.
I find I'm less and less interested in spending time working with polypropylene and other materials that aren't quite as reliable for gluing and paint retention.
If you want some weird conversion fodder or terrain, there is a line of miniature barbie playsets that happen to be the same scale as cyberpunk combat zone.
That one appears to be a 4"figure, so would be good for a larger pod. For a single man pod, there is a Mega Blocks version that should be a perfect size...
$20 for die cast metal D&D monsters. The three humanoids are on the bigger side, 1.65" (vs 1" for 28mm games) but might be useful as well. The Beholder alone looks worth $20

These "Nano Metalfigs" aren't bad. I've got the Harry Potter line and a couple Marvel.
Figures of adult humans are about 38-39mm sole to eye. That makes them roughly 1/43. They would probably scale pretty well with Marvel Crisis Protocol and Shatterpoint.
It's a shame that the Lightyear figures weren't made in 3.75 or 4 inch scale. They actually had some pretty cool power armor figures. My son did buy one of the trucks and maybe one of the fighters though to use with his 3.75 and 4" Halo and SW figs.
I had never heard of Captain Power before, but I certainly see the resemblance.
Also the Captain Power Google images rabbit hole led me to discover the origin of a toy I had as a kid! It served alongside my Star Wars and GIJoe figures, but I got it at a garage sale and never knew what it was from.
Picked this up today. I've been looking for one literally for years, but never wanted to pay full price plus shipping from Europe. Even saw the articulated bus in this series earlier, but today I found this at the Ross discount chain 12 bucks.
Second pic is with the stickers pulled off one side and a HQ fig for scale. Good start for Urban Sci Fi and modern Transit I think. Equally good as a light rail or as a hover street transport.

How will this scale for Crisis Protocol?
Based on the mini next to it, it'd probably be slightly undersized. Probably not gamebreakingly though.
The 4" Action figure scale crab mech from Avatar is on sale for 12 bucks for a limited time.
https://a.co/d/5FSkPmX Quite large, but if you need a big 4 legged mech it's hard to do better for less.
Companies like Tim Mee and BMC have been putting out some really cool retro "Green Army Men" toys that could be good for all sorts of 28mm or smaller games. They're usually a waxy sort of PVC and may not hold paint or glue well but can be made to work with a good primer and some cleaning and sanding. If nothing else they can be wrecks that liven up any table.
For some odd reason it has an open-topped turret in the back, only without any guns so I guess the dude just stands there with his rifle. Oh and no vulcan cannon either...
But it is huge (19") and can make for a 40k scaled bomber with some work.
Interesting to see BMC teaming up with Classic Toy Soldiers for some of these vehicles. Whether King and Country or CTS, BMC's best stuff seems to always be those items they're able to license from others.
That Churchill looks great, but with these toy vehicles pushing up near 20 bucks, maybe it's best to look for 3d printed models or model kits on sale?
3 wheelers/tuk-tuks/autorickshaws are ubiquitous throughout South Asia and can be found in other developing countries as well. Small and nimble, easy to maintain, they fill the gap between riding on the back of a scooter/motorbike and a full 4-wheeler car or truck.
At $2.50 a pop I'll definitely have to get a few. The dimensions are in Chinese length 8cm, width 4cm, height 5cm.
For those in need of parts for giant bugs, I'd highly recommend Bandai's Living Creature Encyclopedia line of gashapon. They've done all sorts of critters, including crabs...
...beetles...
...mantises...
And many others. A friend of mine uses parts from them extensively in his Tyranid conversions. They can be had for fairly cheap second-hand on Mercari (Japanese eBay equivalent) and they're nicely articulated and semi-modular.
Has anyone spotted small spiders/bugs at a dollar store that I might use to make Tomb Swarms with? Basically it needs to be cheaper than just using GW Tomb Swarms
I came across this McFarlane toy from the Avatar movies for about $18 US. It's a RDA Seawasp.
Going by the size of the man's hands holding it, it looks to be usable at 28mm scales.
There are also other toys in the Avatar series there that have potential, although of different scales.
mithril2098 wrote: wish the avatar toy line had included the sampson transport VTOL, not just the scorpion gunships.
My son says the same thing. He really likes the transport VTOLs.
We discussed the Avatar toys a while back, but I don't know that anyone has yet posted a scale comparison. My son received both for Christmas. I'll get pics.
I will say that the cockpit seats and/or pilots that come in the two VTOL's are around 20mm (1/72) scale.
The Crab Suit Megafig is Huge. I bought one when they were super-cheap. I'll get a pic of that too.

I would buy one if I didn't already have the Jango Fett 3.75" figure version that is almost the exact same size.
No, the cargo bay doesn’t open. Though I ordered the Razorcrest online and reviews show that one does have a side door and rear door in the cargo bay. Will see when it arrives.
Edit: it’s funny that the box calls it the Firespray but shows Bobafett. Boba’s was “Slave 1”… guess Disney didn’t like that name. In the Outer Rim board game Firesprsy was the generic name/ class of the ship and the upgraded one was called Slave 1.

Yeah, Disney decided not to have a ship with Slave in the name because PC reasons (and that's all I got to say about that as the Dakka mods won't like it if I rant about it here). At least one Lego version of the ship was simply called "Boba Fett's Starship". It will always be Slave I to me. The ship class is indeed a Firespray-class patrol ship, hence the Firespray name.
(Do folks still say PC? I thought we were demonizing efforts at basic manners as "woke" these days?)
A lot of that is marketing and the transition of Fett from minor villain to antihero with his own TV show. If I have to explain why having the hero of a show fly around in something called "Slave One" is a bad idea then, well, it's probably not worth the effort.
Personally I think they should have worked it in, since his Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett arc was all about redemption - going from evil bounty hunter who scalps wookie slaves to 'ordinary man trying to make his way in the galaxy' - they should have worked the name change into it.
Spaceport Dude-I gots your ship all ready Mista Fett, Slave One all fueled and set!
Boba Fett-Yeah... that's... that's not who I am any more. Let's call it something else, how about Hunter One.

14" Ghost+Specter+2 Y-Wings, at $115 it ain't cheap but might show up in flea markets in a year or two. Should be a perfect size for a medium shuttle in 40k.
Those Micro Galaxy ships are cool, but Tiny. Bigger than X-wing scale but too small for use with 28mm gaming. Which sucks as I really want an E-Wing that can be used with 28mm. My StarWare Edge of the Empire character acquired an E-Wing... not the greatest ship stat-wise but I found it pretty cool. Would love to have one to sit in Hangars when we have "get in the ships quick" encounters.
Have 1 friend with a printer. He has had it a good 4 or 5 months but isnt active printing stuff. He has had issues which kind of has made me nervous about getting one. But Yeah that is probably the way to go...
Edit: A google search revealed this one: No top cannon but still looks cool.
Edit #2: Only $179.99 on Ebay...
If anyone is near a Walmart, the version of the Micro Galaxy Squadron Ghost model that doesn't come with Ywings and Spectre is on clearance for $25.
Like all of these, It's too small for 28mm, but in this case it's big enough, that you could fudge it as a an interesting big of terrain.
Actually at this point, Micro Galaxy Squadron is far enough along that you could certainly battle in that scale (somewhere between 1/72 and 1/87) with a combination of these sets and 3d printed minis. JS wargamer printing will do Big Mr Tong "Galaxy far away" minis in 21mm....
Hmmm. My Walmart sucks then. I went there yesterday as I had heard they had some of the discontinued Mission fleet on clearance (they didnt) and the only starwars stuff I found was lego. AliExpress and Temu have both had regional warehouses outside China for a while now. Presumably helps lower shipping costs and keep their delivery times more competitive with Amazon.

Yeah - anyone who has bought products from smaller firms in China like many of the 3D print ones has often seen insane shipping rates on replacement parts and the like when those firms don't/didn't operate regional warehouses. It's just good sound business sense to have regional warehouses to ship too and then move stock out of them; you can hold stock in reserve and build it up regionally to deliver more effectively to that region and it means lower costs because now everything goes in bulk to the warehouse which then has its own more local distribution network rather than going china to local.
Saw this ship at Ollie’s for $10. Its from their young Jedi academy line.
It’s huge and should make a good cargo hauler. The cockpit and turret do look very large chibi action figure. But I figure if I paint the front one and replace the turret with a new bridge then it will look good
This is what it looks like with the top removed. I found this jar top I may add. I envision the bridge being on top in that section. And the forward hatch being another access to the cargo area.
A rhino definitely has the look of fitting... but there is a low shelf inside that prevents it from actually getting in.

It's your decision of course, but I think some flat panels and greebling hiding the round hole completely would improve the overall shape of the craft.
As for the shelf, just cut that out. Being able to put a Rhino in there is too much of a good opportunity to pass up.
I've passed this craft on sale up a few times now, but based on your pictures think I'll pick it up if I see it again.
Good advice. I will work on it this weekend and see what I can do. May try and disassemble and see if the interior can just be removed. Would certainly be easier than trying to cut it out. And worst comes to worst, I can but another if I mess it up too badly,

Dis-assembly and removal is usually preferrable. However if you have to cut it out, for cutting out hard plastic, I highly recommend the Dremel 543 bit. It costs as much as an off-brand motor tool, but it lasts darn near forever and almost effortlessly cuts, shapes and smooths plastic. I've used it on more toy-bashing projects than I can count. I think I'm only on my second, after 15+ years.
The only time I use the traditional disposable fibre cutting wheel is when I need to make a fine cut and preserve as much material as possible. Otherwise I break out the 543 and chop it up!
Sometimes on a project like this I can even cut up the pieces I remove from the interior and turn them into flat panels to greeble the outside.

Man, I am jealous of your Ollies.. last night I saw this at my local Ollies and they had it for 19.99..
Just received mine from Amazon.
It's a really good shape and with a few panels to disguise the canopy, it should paint up well for 28mm.
Appears to be all held together with screws so I'll definitely be opening it up and removing the tan interior seats/ceilings/etc.
The grey rear pieces come separate and are polypropylene rather than the hard polystyrene of the rest of the toy. I'll probably leave them off as they don't add any floor length to the cargo area. Instead I'll just shorten the ramp.
The grey pieces might end up on top covering up the circle opening, but I'm not sure yet. They're made of the poly propylene plastic that I prefer to avoid when possible.
Very pleased with it so far. The droid is pretty cute also.

I have been looking on ebay for maybe a Millenium falcon quad laser turret or some 40K turrets to mount on it. Though Wargames Atlantic "the Damned" should be delivering in the near future so maybe I will wait and mount one of the artillery pieces from that on it.
Gave my first ship to a friend to airbrush but bought a second ship Saturday. This is the 2nd ship. Sprayed the hatch with some cheap apple red craft store paint. The top hatch is from a bubble gum machine. Pretty happy with the $10.00 I spent for it… and the $5.99 for the paint. I plan on buying a sprue of Wargames Atlantic le grognards artillery to put a gun on the top round hatch. Will cut a hole up top for the clear hatch to pop in to.
They're all nice. I think the obvious choice is magnetization, but YMMV.
Also, I think the round cap top could use either some more detailing or replace with a flat top.
Magnets are a good idea. Especially since I have 2 ships. So I can change between them. I am gonna put an access hatch on top. And some other gubbins. I think I am gonna wait to get my Damned gamefound stuff and see what I can use there. Hopefully that will be delivering soonish.
I came across this Micro Galaxy Ahsoka Tano T-6 Jedi Shuttle. I think it is usable as a small shuttle craft.
This figure is a 32mm (eye level) scale Legion mini next to it. The ship uses 1 inch tall minis which I think at their eye level would be about 23mm?
You might want to paint the underside of the cockpit glass to hide its scale. It's big enough for a one person cockpit with room for a dozen seats in the rear area.
I also put this together. It is a 4D Cityscape Star Wars Mandalorian Razor Crest and Sandcrawler Paper Model Kit.
I believe it is no longer made, but you can find this double kit on eBay for as little as $15 US. There is a single Razor Crest kit still being sold, but it does not have landing gear and open ramp doors. It can only be built as a flying ship on a flight stand. The company states these are both 1/61 scale and I think they are believable enough in size. They are pretty sturdy kits and are fine for war gaming at home. They are a three layer paper composite with a corrugated plastic middle and thick paper on either side of that. If you can't afford the $500 plus Razer Crest resin kits out there then this might be an option for you.

Thanks so much for posting those! The size looks great.
I have that dual kit on my shelf but haven't assembled it yet.

How long did it take you to build them?
I think it took me about a week working on it off and on. Maybe 2 or 3 hours a day while watching TV which I'm sure slowed me down.
Be very careful when assembling the Razer Crest's engine nacelles, as the instructions have terrible pictures and it is very important to get it right.
I found a Tonka 95 Millenium falcon over the weekend for $25. It was mostly complete but lacked the cockpit window glass and the satellite dish was unhinged. The interior is rough and the landing gear does not lock in place. Since I will be using it at space ports as background and terrain in some starwars rpgs... I fixed the landing gear, locking them in place... and managed to reattach the dish... and I make cockpit glass using a canada dry zero green plastic bottle. I sealed the cockpit and will likely seal the back as well. But like the scale next to my Mission fleet ships. So another ship in. I am pretty happy at the $25 price too. I had the 84 Kenner one back in the day, But sold it in a garage sale when i moved back to the US after getting married... :(

The green glazing looks great in the cockpit. That sizes better than I thought it would have, for 28mm but still seems a bit big even though it might be close to correct in scale. I think I have that one from my childhood. It's the redo of the '84 (with chunky underside section) but in better colors, right?
Large ships are a bit of quandry in that when done to scale they can really dominate the tabletop, but some shrink better than others. I wonder if this one would look better for 28mm just by shortening the landing gear.
The MIcroGalaxy T-6 looks pretty good also. My son has it and I had assumed it was too small to be useful but your pictures suggest otherwise.
I do think though that the Mission Fleet series t-6 is a better choice for 28mm and is also less than half the price.
For wargaming, I think that the compressed dimensions of Action fleet and similar lines often work better on the tabletop because they are chunky enough to accomodate 28mm figures, but have a smaller footprint.

I've been doing more work from the TV couch recently. Maybe I'll be able to get around to these sometime soon.

Yeah... So... There is the original which I think was available from 1979 -1985. That is the one I had as a kid. Then there is the 95 reprint version, which is the one I got. And I think they used the same molds so are the same size. But did change some things, like the force tether ball in the original not in the 95 version. Then there is the Legacy version which is like the rolls royce ones that goes for like $250 for crappy copies and $800 for the good almost mint ones. There is also one Called the POTF (power of the force) one that is slightly smaller and only fits one person in the cockpit. Mission Fleet also has a Millenium Falcoln but I think its about the same size as Ashoka's Shuttle so looks really tiny.
I like the large ships even though it will take up space on my table but agree that the landing gear is too tall. I have been looking for other ship type playsets so I can have other traders in ports and not have my players see the same ships in every port. The green plastic glass was a desperation idea as replacement glass for the cockpit is like $45 on ebay.
Part of the problem with that Falcon is that it looks bigger than it is because it's quite chibi. They were reluctant in the '80s to make the ships large enough to properly scale with the figures - (Star Wars always should have been the done in a similar scale to the M.A.S.K. toys... would have let them have more of the vehicles the right size) - so they all wind up looking tall and chubby.
But yeah, shortening the landing gear would go a long way towards fixing that.
I never had any of the M.A.S.K toys as a kid. I remember they came out around the same time as Visionaries.. and those were knights with swords... so those captured my attention more. For reference, I was born in 76... and I think this was around 6th grade when I lived in Texas.
How do the Mask toys scale with 28mm stuff? I saw a gas station for it that looks pretty cool. But goes for a fortune on ebay.
They are too big. The action figures are about 5” tall I think. Maybe one or two could be made a bit size agnostic, but it would be hard to disguise. The mountain base play set may be one of those out because its scale is so compressed even for the action figures that it could be made into something viable for 40K.

M.A.S.K. figures aren't even REMOTELY 5" tall. They're closer to 2". Still a larger scale than 28mm, but not anywhere near the same scale as Toybiz Marvel Toylines and Ultraverse figures, which were 5" toylines.
Apologies. I should know by now that I’m terrible at estimating length, especially from memory. I measured some of my old ones and they are indeed a touch under 3” tall. Still wildly out of scale with 40K though.
Toy railroad bridges from a Daiso, a 100 Yen shop in Japan.
PBS plastic so use superglue.
I'm using them upside down so I trimmed the corners (the bottom is supposed to be train tracks that I don't have). This got me some nice industrial rubble though.
The grating is a bit large but a 25mm base won't fall through.
6" long
I only found them in one shop, and bought out the stash, but hey, cheap, cheerful and useful.

There HAS to be a link somewhere to a shop that sells those...
Went to my local Ollie’s. No new ships… though they do have the Firedpray back in stock. Oddly the smaller young Jedi academy ships went up from $5.99 to $9.99 but the large ship is still $9.99.
I did find a pack of Golem Arcana. $3.29. But it was the only one. :( but still not bad at just over $1 a figure.

Those are great little clones of Plarail bridges. Super useful!
We finally got some Daiso shops around here, but we didn't have anything like that.

Great deal!
I've got to get to Ollie's again, but all the locations are way out in the suburbs.
Went to a different Ollie’s today. Got another Ashoka fighter and young Jedi ship… and combined them. Really rough as all I had access to was sprue cutters. but here is my rushed comb job.
At 18" long (!!) it's wildly out of scale for 28mm but might be a good basis for a Ork battlewagon or Necromunda vehicle, or maybe a sweet ride for your McFarlane 40k figures.

Neat. If I didn't already have so many other options already, the tumbler would be a great start for toy-bashing up a massive spacecraft.
I saw a listing for an Imaginex ship... Unfortunately, it's local pick up only and in New Jersey... But do any of you recognize the ship? My google-fu is failing me. But The ship looks like something I need..
That's a good one. I think it's expensive because it's OOP. I'm pretty sure it was quite cheap for a while at the beginning of last year. The trick for so many of these if to find them on overstock/clearance but before scarcity.
Facebook Marketplace is my go to for oop stuff... and I found one of those Flying Fox batman ships for $15... but... in New York... :( Guess the search continues.
Ok, got my Superman ship. The blue canopy will be painted grey, to match the hull. I got a Razorcrest canopy off of eBay that will be the new cockpit. And the rest are dollar store gi Joe bits
There's a nearby shop that buys pallets of Amazon returns and sells them over the course of the week via a scheme that starts at 8 bucks and the price decreases daily down to 1.
On two dollar day I found a package containing just the containers, crane and a few accessories from this set.
https://a.co/d/4sEGlyH
The grey parts at a bit softer, but everything else is HIPS. The clear side doors are difficult to open but I'll be gluing them shut and painting them as walls anyway.
I'm not sure if the set is worth $30, and there is also a version with a much better crane for $40, but it's probably worth keeping an eye on if it goes on deep discount.
The MDF container used for comparison is from TT Combat.
Smokestack wrote: Those look great. Does the shop have an on-line presence? And if so can you share the link?
No, sorry. It's just one of several such shops that have popped up around here. I doubt they have any online presence, they just pour out piles of returned items on tables for folks to dig through over a week of steadily decreasing prices.
You might be able to Google maps to see if there's one near you. They usually have " Discount" in the name and pics will show their daily price schedule.
I occasionally find wargaming items. A couple weeks ago I scooped up 2 packs of Monster Fight Club Crystals on 6 dollar day. And this 3d printed structure cost 2 bucks a couple months back. The print lines were pretty deep. Took a few coats of thick spray paint to get it paintable. Worth it though I think.
Flinty wrote: That sounds like the worst kind of Aldi centre aisle place
Just a world of temptation!
It really is. I find really great stuff there, and now my goal is to cover the price of each visit by selling stuff I purchased there. I've got some 3d printed articulated dragons and dinos up for sale on offer-up in an attempt to cover last weeks trip!
the town my grandfather lives near has a place like that, but it never has anything that good. unless you show up on the day they get their shipments in (which of course, always have the highest prices)
We have a store here that is similar, but slightly more expensive.. $14 the first day of stock, dropping to 12, 10, 8, 5 , 2 and 0.25 cents the last day
Wife refers to it as the "treasure store".. she has found several 3d printed terrain items for me there.. plus lots of stuff for our kids in their new homes..

Dang, 25 cents is quite a deal! Out of curiosity, what day does she usually go?
I've been going on the penultimate $2 day and sometimes on the final (one dollar) day. On the last day, you've really got to get there right as it opens.

I've never been to one of these stores on the first day but at some point I would like to. I've gone on the middle days, but it feels like I just pay a bit more than I want. I think my strategy is going to be to go on the second to last day and scoop up the 2 dollar deals, and then possibly sweep back early on the last if I see something cheap that I want to pick up in bulk.
A $17 MIG. Since this was one of the inspirations for the Ork Dakkajet, and presumably whatever Imperial jet they looted, it could be a good way to build up an air force, especially if you have a ton of bits.
The backdrop arrived, and finally had time to put it in my display case.
The colours are a bit flat. Makes it look a bit cell shaded. However, it could be worse. Seems to be printed on some kind of expanded foam sheet, so you could probably build a half-decent building out of it
We have something at our local dump that I wish everyone had - the "Swap Shop." Basically the Swap Shop is a shack next to the recycling area where you can donate anything you want to get rid of that's still good and useable, and take anything you find there that others have donated at no charge. Since this is the age of the internet and people know about ebay, it's not often that you find anything valuable or remarkable there - I've never once seen wargaming figures - but it can be great for scratch builders looking to make buildings out of old CD players and wi-fi routers and things like that. I've occasionally gotten lucky finding aquarium scenery there. For free toys, it's not as great a resource as you might think, because while you might get lucky occasionally, tons of low-quality "Happy Meal" type junk toys generally clutter the bins.
I've thought about posting things that I've found there here, but since the swap shop is a depot for used items, the stuff I find there wouldn't be all that useful for you guys, because the things I find there might not be currently available. I'm mostly posting all this just to spread the idea of junkyard Swap Shops, in case anyone here without one could suggest it and get one started where they live. It's the last chance to rescue and use free stuff that would otherwise end up in a landfill, so it's helpful to the community and good for the environment.
I think the best use of the swap shop would be converting old junk into cool 28mm terrain; I've gathered a number of items for this purpose, but at this point in my miniature hobby career I'm still focused on assembling and painting miniatures rather than building terrain. I've often wished I could take someone especially gifted at creative terrain homebrewing like our dakka mod Insaniak to my swap shop - the terrain he could make out of all the old tech and plastic junk that he'd find there would be amazing.
My apologies, gents . . . you're too polite to say so, but I think I made a post very much like the one above in this thread a couple years ago, forgot about it, and repeated myself.

No worries at all. I'm sure there are folks following the thread now that weren't then.
The very nature of this thread means that alot of folks end up posting toys that were already posted years ago (I've seen some toys pop up 3-4 times!), but no one goes out of their way to call it out. No biggie, we're just discussing toys after all!
My kids have the rocket in the first picture, which is the same rocket as the gantry rocket. Durable and totally worth it as a kids toy. Given what people pay for GW stuff I find it funny anyone is scoffing at these prices.
Also picked up a bunch of these little platforms. Supposedly for display of 1/43 cars , they're also sized to fit the tin Shipping containers I haven't been able to find.

While I get the appeal of posting "available" toys so others can source them if they like the idea, I still think that posting stuff you find around and repurpose for gaming would be nice to see. Especially progress or completed pics (old wi-fi hub and other similar tech isn't that eye catching after all!). If only to inspire and give us idea with stuff we could fin around! Pretty sure there was a few trift store find in here with great result already!

Yep, both Daiso.
It's a sort of Japanese dollar store (though now most stuff is $2.25). Toys, decor , office, travel, food, makeup, etc .
They've started to open more shops in the USA. I wasn't paying attention, but it seems like quite quickly we went from zero to several in the Chicago area.

Daiso is nice but I've not seen them carry toys in the one US store I've been to (which closed in the last year or so). Don't mourn for the tin shipping crates, I've seen them in person and the Reaper ones are a lot better.
As for the display bases I see similar ones on Amazon

Yeah, there seen to be allot of sellers (resellers??) of those same mech bays, at so the usual places, but the going rate seems to be around 10 bucks each. There are better bay kits for not much more than that on Ali Express.
The Daiso here always have a toy section, but I haven't seen anything there worth getting until my most recent visit where I found the Mech Bays. They did have some painted modular toy car road and parking lot sections that cought my eye but not something I needed.
The container accessories are a different matter. I found the trailer I showed a while back in a display of spring decor and the platforms were with some small toy furniture in a home goods aisle.
