We have a store here that is similar, but slightly more expensive.. $14 the first day of stock, dropping to 12, 10, 8, 5 , 2 and 0.25 cents the last day

Wife refers to it as the "treasure store".. she has found several 3d printed terrain items for me there.. plus lots of stuff for our kids in their new homes..

Dang, 25 cents is quite a deal! Out of curiosity, what day does she usually go?

I've been going on the penultimate $2 day and sometimes on the final (one dollar) day. On the last day, you've really got to get there right as it opens.

Wife goes on whatever day she has off.. She says that the $14 day has a line waiting for them to open, as does the last day.. but in the "middle" she can just walk in and browse the tables/bins..

I've never been to one of these stores on the first day but at some point I would like to. I've gone on the middle days, but it feels like I just pay a bit more than I want. I think my strategy is going to be to go on the second to last day and scoop up the 2 dollar deals, and then possibly sweep back early on the last if I see something cheap that I want to pick up in bulk.

First off Night Lords and Dark Eldar players rejoice, a 13" Batman Batwing for just $13!

Then a Star Wars Prequel ARC-170, it's the Micro Galaxy Fleet so small for 28mm, but such a nice ship. Several other ships there too.

A manta-like sub for the Octonauts.

A $17 MIG. Since this was one of the inspirations for the Ork Dakkajet, and presumably whatever Imperial jet they looted, it could be a good way to build up an air force, especially if you have a ton of bits.

What I like about Skye's jet is the wings can rotate 90s degrees allowing kids to learn what happens if a large plane suddenly loses all lift!

Finally some photo backgrounds, they're meant for action figures but I think they could work for mini photography too.

The backdrop arrived, and finally had time to put it in my display case.

The colours are a bit flat. Makes it look a bit cell shaded. However, it could be worse. Seems to be printed on some kind of expanded foam sheet, so you could probably build a half-decent building out of it

It's always fun to check out this thread.

We have something at our local dump that I wish everyone had - the "Swap Shop." Basically the Swap Shop is a shack next to the recycling area where you can donate anything you want to get rid of that's still good and useable, and take anything you find there that others have donated at no charge. Since this is the age of the internet and people know about ebay, it's not often that you find anything valuable or remarkable there - I've never once seen wargaming figures - but it can be great for scratch builders looking to make buildings out of old CD players and wi-fi routers and things like that. I've occasionally gotten lucky finding aquarium scenery there. For free toys, it's not as great a resource as you might think, because while you might get lucky occasionally, tons of low-quality "Happy Meal" type junk toys generally clutter the bins.

I've thought about posting things that I've found there here, but since the swap shop is a depot for used items, the stuff I find there wouldn't be all that useful for you guys, because the things I find there might not be currently available. I'm mostly posting all this just to spread the idea of junkyard Swap Shops, in case anyone here without one could suggest it and get one started where they live. It's the last chance to rescue and use free stuff that would otherwise end up in a landfill, so it's helpful to the community and good for the environment.

I think the best use of the swap shop would be converting old junk into cool 28mm terrain; I've gathered a number of items for this purpose, but at this point in my miniature hobby career I'm still focused on assembling and painting miniatures rather than building terrain. I've often wished I could take someone especially gifted at creative terrain homebrewing like our dakka mod Insaniak to my swap shop - the terrain he could make out of all the old tech and plastic junk that he'd find there would be amazing.

My apologies, gents . . . you're too polite to say so, but I think I made a post very much like the one above in this thread a couple years ago, forgot about it, and repeated myself.

Either it's a sign of encroaching senility, or I've always been this way. In any event, carry on.

No worries at all. I'm sure there are folks following the thread now that weren't then.

The very nature of this thread means that alot of folks end up posting toys that were already posted years ago (I've seen some toys pop up 3-4 times!), but no one goes out of their way to call it out. No biggie, we're just discussing toys after all!

Looking at adding some tail-sitting rockets to my spaceport terrain.

I note that sanctions are biting, the price of the Crimson Firehawk/bird/bolt is up a whopping 20%!

https://www.amazon.com/Adventures-Crimson-Firehawk-17-Inch-Preschool/dp/B0BDHSJP5G/

Now for rockets...

https://www.amazon.com/TEMI-Space-Toys-kids-8-10/dp/B09ZNYN6Z3/

$40, comes with projectors, sprays mist, plays music, I don't need any of that.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C7M8NYLH/

Chonky, $25, breaks down for storage, plays music and sprays mist.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C7MXFWR2/

$65, gantry, mist, projector. if you're looking for a center piece you could do worse.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C7M9FW19/

$28, water spray, lights. Not bad.

So maybe #2 and #4, not that I need more, actually I need less.

Ooh, I like that playset with the gantry, but not at $65. Might keep an eye on it though to see if it comes down in price..

Also, the picture of your layout is quite impressive.

My kids have the rocket in the first picture, which is the same rocket as the gantry rocket. Durable and totally worth it as a kids toy. Given what people pay for GW stuff I find it funny anyone is scoffing at these prices.

The Mech Bays that Kid Kyoto found overseas have made their way to the USA.

Found them at Daiso and I bought every one they had.

First pics of 1/144 Gundam

Then approx 1/72 (20mm) Mech

Then turned sideways with a 1/72 starfighter.

Then 28mm figure

Also picked up a bunch of these little platforms. Supposedly for display of 1/43 cars , they're also sized to fit the tin Shipping containers I haven't been able to find.

While I get the appeal of posting "available" toys so others can source them if they like the idea, I still think that posting stuff you find around and repurpose for gaming would be nice to see. Especially progress or completed pics (old wi-fi hub and other similar tech isn't that eye catching after all!). If only to inspire and give us idea with stuff we could fin around! Pretty sure there was a few trift store find in here with great result already!

Fantasy armies - Retired (Tomb Kings, Vampires, Empire, Chaos Warriors/Daemons, Dark Elves)

Tyranids army - Ever evolving, but about 10k pts
Custodes - 3,500pts (Fully painted yay!)

Eldar - 3,000pts

Yep, both Daiso.

It's a sort of Japanese dollar store (though now most stuff is $2.25). Toys, decor , office, travel, food, makeup, etc .

They've started to open more shops in the USA. I wasn't paying attention, but it seems like quite quickly we went from zero to several in the Chicago area.

Daiso is nice but I've not seen them carry toys in the one US store I've been to (which closed in the last year or so). Don't mourn for the tin shipping crates, I've seen them in person and the Reaper ones are a lot better.

As for the display bases I see similar ones on Amazon

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=gundam+display&crid=GERMU3CX4C86&sprefix=gundam+disp%2Caps%2C404&ref=nb_sb_noss_2

But for a lot more than $2.

I have another trip to Japan coming up, I'll see what I find.
