youwashock wrote:Certainly looks the part, doesn't he/she? Perfectly, in fact. Nice work.
Thanks youwashock! It's nearly the weapons on him (I finally gendered the pit fighter Captain Brown seems to see it that way too), that are in the book, if we assume that mace is in fact an extractable morningstar Sadly it looks like we won't be playing this year anymore, but you'll never know.
Captain Brown wrote:The more I look at he/she, the more I think it is a male figure...
My two cents,
CB
Thanks Captain Brown, it's now Pat the male pit fighter
inmygravenimage wrote:Well, gender is a spectrum these days. Cool, regardless.
 Thanks Graven!
ListenToMeWarriors wrote:You are smashing through the Crisis Protocol figures, I must admit that I know little of the Marvel Universe bar the obvious characters but these are all looking like great fun.
Great to see some more Mordheim from you as well. The fist spike on the pit fighter looks brutal!
Whoever came up with the idea of using the Infinity figures as statues is on to a good thing as well.
Thanks ListenToMeWarriors! Painting the Marvel figs is mostly really relaxing. Contrast and maybe an edge highlight works well on them and because they all are different it doesn't get stale.
In the book he has a spiked gauntlet that also let's him parry. So works quite well modeling-wise.
The problem was to get Infinity figures, they are mostly sold off everywhere. Snatched a 3-pack for 10€ and gave Black Widow and Thor to my kids for playing. Because of the Lego Shorts they know and love all the Avengers
gobert wrote:Wow! Your board looks awesome. Did I miss you painting all the cars or are they models?
Thanks gobert! They are model cars, I would not in a million years have the motivation to paint so many
monkeytroll wrote:Nice job on all the marvel stuff
Thanks monkeytroll and good to read you again!
No real progress, but built the last Marvel minis and primed them (before the first frost tonight, talk about timing) and will try to get them painted up as quick as possible.

Ooh, Mr Sinister. Not a fan of the character, but great sculpt. Interested to see how you tackle Cable, I don't have him but have seen some great versions using cinematics impacting off his shield. I also wondered about using squares of glitter (as I've seen done for Harlequin shields) to make it super sparkly.

Post by: Viterbi
I'm not entirely certain, if I have read anything with him. I believe I only know him from the Xbox 360 Deadpool game (awful game, great cutscenes!). But he looks fun and the first time I left stuff off, to be able to paint it better. Same thing with Cable's gun (and he doesn't get the Cape, does no one listen to Edna? ) Regarding his shield I will probably go the lazy way as I did with the Imperial Elf from my Sister's army and use Contrast over metallics and some OSL drybrushing where the grenades hit it.

Looks good. The colours remind me of X-Men comics circa 2005. It’s that metallic aqua blue I think. Sounds like you know what you’re doing with the shield too.

Thanks und I hope I do know what I'm doing
Quick update, started on Spider-Gwen and Kingpin, Miles has to wait a bit to get his base finished. I'm going for a black suit for Kingpin, to have him more in style with the animated Spider-Verse movie.

Thanks Graven! Although actually his shirt & tie and her pink are three different Contrast paints
For Islay Whisky you have to talk to my father I like some, but if I drink peated I'm more inclined to a Benromach with a more barbecue smokey flavor than the Islay one. But the Talisker 57° North was excellent.

Thanks youwashock! Need to watch that movie again, visually perfect and the first look at the sequel looks cool too.
aku-chan wrote:Another snazzy looking Kingpin! Everybody seems to do such a good job painting him.
Thanks aku-chan! He's a breeze to paint so far, because he's so big and Contrast colors really help
Did a little more work, Wilson got his skin finalized and some dark grey highlights on his suit. Rings and buttons are next tomorrow.
And I was very apprehensive on doing the blue lines on Gwen, but jittery hands still succeeded and she's practically done by now (my fingers for scale )

Thanks Yorkright! Was debating quite some time with myself, because the white suit is so iconic, but the Daredevil Series and Into the Spider-Verse showed that black could work as well.

Thanks Thumpingbear! The models are fine overall, it's just compared to GW LotR minis, that there is a difference in face detail. I made a quick pic, there are details on, maybe I should habe thinned my paints
And sadly I did not managed to finish the apartment building in 2021 (not painting for nearly two weeks might have something to do with this ), but I did a little more work and it is slowly coming together.
Still not sure, if I try some white stripes on the windows to imitate reflections
Left side practically done, wanted it to look like the windows have been painted all over. May try some small stripes of duct tape on the one at the fire escape.
Forgot to put Ardcoat on the garage door thingy and now the decal stands out a bit But it is my favorite graffiti of the whole bunch. Needs a lot of work on the windows, those will get the same treatment as the front.
This side will probably get a big graffiti. Gonna try to print me a stencil of Bender, he deserves a wall to himself, after what happened to the one he sprayed himself on in NNY
And the roof that is finished since November
Well, see you all in 2022

Thanks Slinky! I hate painting terrain and am glad, that at least it looks the part
Finally managed to get some pics together for my 2021 recap. I believe I set myself some goals and highly likely achieved none I don't like painting and it showed this year, having enough Marines and Sisters for 25-50 PL games. Only painted a handful of new units for those.
But the tally is still ok with 75 infantry models and one vehicle. And I like the diversity, building a new warband for Mordheim (my most played game system) and making a big splash with the MCP minis. They paint up fast, especially with Contrast paints.
Everyone together:
The 40k section, Sisters in the lead:
He hasn't taken to the field, but still very happy with my SM Captain "on bike" conversion:
The MCP minis:
Cursed City (need to tackle the rest of the box this year):
Sisters of Sigmar Warband, mercs (Pit Fighter and Gandalf on square base) and the first two Rohan minis:
Last but not least five minis I painted up for a friend so his Mordheim warband is completely painted:
For 2022 I will try (as said) to get the Cursed City Box done, all the MCP I've been collecting, some more Sisters/Marines loitering on my shelves and maybe a further Mordheim warband (contemplating Vampire Hunters, so I can use CC minis and base them on squares).

Bit of radio silence here, used up my hobby space to sort my movie collection and than the motivation waned a bit. Got slowly back into the swing of things, but first *drumroll* my foothill of embarrassment (not enough for a pile of shame):
Pretty manageable. Wanna try and get the MCP, Sisters and Cursed City/Warcry stuff painted. Of course, I already bought some more Marvel and the two AoS Witch Hunters, but those and some of the Cursed City minis gonna go on square bases and do double duty in Mordheim.
On the painting front this guy got me started again. Spray white, use Contrast, mini practically done I corrected the staff today and need to finish his base. Other than that I'm very happy with this look.
He's tiny, but should paint up quickly too. Glad the eyes worked out, hope I don't ruin them when painting the other colors of his fur in the face.
He is Groot. Kept it simple with drybrushes over Contrast.
Mostly Contrast, just some Dark Reaper on the black and Stormshield over the whole mini. Not entirely happy with the flesh on the mouth, but good enough for gaming.
And this weekend I need to visit all your plogs, been away too long.

Thanks zahnib! I'm not entirely certain if I came up with that or more likely read it here on Dakka somewhere But I love that phrase.
Some little update (and more in the pipeline).
Latest shots of Venom and Moon Knight finished. I realized to late, that the wind is blowing the other way so the comic on the Moon Knight base shouldn't be in that position. Ah well... And contemplated putting blood akin to the stick on his suit, but git scared And it's a magic suit so probably self-cleaning
Really happy with the Dark Reaper accents on Venom. Makes him look a bit like the 90's comics colors
And some WIP, gotta love Contrast. Thor will get some highlighting with normal colors, but only Contrasts is already working well.
And I started a new project (although painting is a bit off). New Mordheim warband, Vampire Hunters. Luckily only needed to buy the ven Densts, all other minis were already at hand.
The complete warband
Vampire Hunter leader and Priest of Morr (because he is called Octren in Cursed City I couldn't resist and he will travel the streets of Mordheim as Ogden Wernstrom )
Three Slayers
Four Pilgrims (the arms I had left weren't ideal for posing)
The Villagers (the story is that the priest revives the vampire's victims and let's them fight as zombies)
And the wolfhounds

Battle reports will take a bit. Our match this weekend was postponed, because of sickness all around Maybe weekend after next we'll play again.
And a small update, finished some more MCP minis, firstly Rocket and Groot:
Not super happy with the gun and OSL, but overall quite pleased.
And the God of Thunder, 80% Contrast paints:
Jenny and Bruce. Feel like Bruce needs another highlight, but my greens don't have the needed hue and I don't want to mix.
Finally finished Bob (he was 90% done last year) and of course Mr. Pool couldn't wait then:

Here are the glamour shots of Hulk, Rocket and Groot for the painting comp:
"We got him cornered, that'll be an easy 50.000 credits from the Grandmaster!"
"I am Groot!"
"I don't care if he won over a hundred fights, those are rigged anyway."
"I am Groot."
"You're just a pessimist and of course he looks angry, because we'll have him bagged in 5 minutes, mark my words!"
And the next batch of WIPs:
Still to stupid to use Contrast skin colors, but gonna layer over them anyway. Sabretooth will get some highlighting on the fur, looks to similar to the yellow suit right now. Not in love with his character or sculpt, but contrast made painting him so far bearable Taskmasters cloak will get some "real" yellow on the cape once I've done the suit. That looks very splotchy at the moment. Viper gets some green highlights and Valkyrie is just standing there, because I was painting blond hair anyway
If I can keep that tempo up, I may be done with most of the Marvel minis sometime in March. Fingers crossed!

It can make painting a lot easier. I really like sloshing it on and then putting a layer paint on top. Works well very often.

Seeing how I'm on sick leave this week (second bout of Corona, but this time fully vaccinated and boostered, so a lot more common cold than the first time ) I start every morning with a little painting session.
Finished Sabretooth and Viper (not happy about her eyes, she looks more Picasso than human. Although I realize they aren't visible on the pic ).
Hope that the blue on the wings will hold, forgot to put some varnish on first May tackle her today or tomorrow, need to paint all the black bits. Should be strong enough to go over the yellow.
And he is the best at what he does... Tried to paint the X-Force color scheme. Eyes are to dark, put bright red paint over them after the pic, but because of no small brush available I now need to redo the black a bit And tried something new with Taskmaster's cape, put Quickshade over the Grey Seer and than painted over with Grey Seer again to give it a smudgy look.

All coming along well. I have switched to cheap brushes from Walmart. They are 12 for half the cost of a GW brush , and I get a variety of sizes.
I have managed to keep clear of the Rona, I’m fully Vaxed and boostered as well, but others are not as lucky. One of the Doctors in my office who is also fully boostered and Vaxed is sick with it a second time, lots of coughing and weakness. My wife’s grandmother is fully up to date and also has had it twice. No rhyme or reason.

Thanks youwashock! Already feeling better and if it stays that way I can leave the house on Monday.

Theophony wrote:All coming along well.
Get better buddy.
Thanks Theo! Virus be crazy, my grandma also didn't catch it while a lot of my family already had it. Luckily without complications.

Meer_Cat wrote:The colors you are using are perfect for all these superhero figures. I only see Citadel, et al, in the background of the photos but it is as if you bought a palette of colors specifically for Marvel. Excellent effect!
Thanks Meer_Cat! Contrast Talassar Blue is my absolute hero of the bunch. It's such a perfect bright comic blue, it's amazing.
And because the motivation still hasn't waned, I finished Logan and Tony Masters this morning. Not so happy with the inside of Taskmaster's cape as with the outside, but it's at least the same style Quite happy with the shield and the general rough and dirty look on him.
Really happy with him, exactly how I had planned. Can't wait to paint up Domino and Cable and have a X-Force team ready to go.
These two are on my list for tomorrow, Beast is nearly done, waiting for the dark blue contrast paint that should arrive tomorrow. Wasp "just" needs a lot of black overpainting, hope I don't mess up the yellow.
And everything Marvel primed and yet to paint (and Shuri/Okoye NiB lying around). Want to try and tackle Bullseye, Sin and Mystique on the weekend, they should paint up pretty fast. After that there will be some Hobbits on the menu for the painting comp.

Wolverine looks the business. The blood is very fitting from what I remember of that run. Much love for the choice of cover on his base. Taskmaster also looks good. Yellow's a little patchy, as you said, but the shield turned out great. Plenty of super-heroism to come, too!

Only for this week, once work commences next week, it'll all be over and I'm back to slow(er) painting I will steel myself when I assemble her. And such a shame, the pose looks so great.
youwashock wrote:Wolverine looks the business. The blood is very fitting from what I remember of that run. Much love for the choice of cover on his base. Taskmaster also looks good. Yellow's a little patchy, as you said, but the shield turned out great. Plenty of super-heroism to come, too!
Thanks youwashock! I've read some X-Force (had an omnibus), but it got weird very fast with time travel to kill Apocalypse and all team members having PASTS with one another. So I dropped it But the costume is just great and it was clear pretty quickly I would try to emulate it.
I'm torn on further painting Taskmasters inner cape, but it was bugger enough to get everything under there and I fear I will splotch everything with yellow... eh, he's a gaming piece anyway
monkeytroll wrote:Looking good, and have to join youwashock in loving the issue cover for Logan's base, absolute classic.
Thanks monkeytroll! It's had not to know that cover, even if one has never read a single issue of Wolverine. And fits perfect with his "coma at me" pose.
And the next batch is done. Finally my Leviadon Blue Contrast arrived so could finish Beast. Blue is perfect for the shorts and more importantly: That is exactly the blue I need for Bullseye. He will practically paint himself
It's not good to see, but Beast is reading "Cult of the Emperor". Couldn't resist a little crossover, now that Marvel produces 40k comics.
Wasp. The tiny version was easier done though as I thought and for the first time used one of the cans for the base. Tried some color splotches to create a can of my favorite softdrink. It's highly addictive Little sad I didn't realize the wings weren't filed done properly on the big version.

Thanks aku-chan! Was the easiest way to get something interesting on the bases without much effort Without Contrast I would've gone mad painting those minis.
gobert wrote:Loving all of the comics on the MCP stuff… helps me figure out some of the less popular ones . Genius touch to have a easy reading a 40k book too
Thanks gobert! I know most of them, but have only read some of the characters, mostly Deadpool.
And with me being 99% healthy again and work resuming tomorrow, I end my Marvel Mayhem. Managed to get the last three planned minis done and made a huge dent into my Marvel pile. Very simple paintjobs (and not the best with Sin and Bullseye), but they're done.
Sin: The scar over the eye was not planned. Put some more color on the face before the dot from the marker in her eye had dried. Instead of repainting it, a scar was easier And her spaghetti top is not perfectly separated from her skin
Bullseye: Easy to paint, although I should have gone for Basilicanum Grey on the white stuff to get more definition on the inner rings. Ah well, the Contrast White was out because of Mystique, so I got lazy. And realized while painting that I did not remove all the mold lines But hey, at least he got eyes.
Mystique: Really happy with her (although blown up pics show small stuff that irks me now). Great classic 60's spy pose, love the surpressor on the gun. And also two eyes, looking in the same direction

So, did I paint nothing that "missing" month? Of course not Did I paint very little... Yes
I only painted one more mini, Gollum eating his supper:
I'm really happy with him, especially being able to do his eyes, because is that one small model.
The rest of the month I'm trying to do some more models for my 40k armies. These terminators are for the painting comp:
And it is embarrassing, how long these sisters are standing around after I painted the test mini. Need to get the squad done.

Thanks gobert! Yes, the mini is from the SMH set, got the whole box (and had all the limited minis in it too ). I actually don't know how much the marines tally atm, but I'm sure they are still just a chapter

Thanks DJJazzyJeff! MCP is very good shamepilewise, because every mini is it's own army, so paint one and you're immediately happy that you don't have to paint another 29 of them
Captain Brown wrote:Very nice Gollum there Viterbi. You did manage to do those miniature eyes.

Thanks Captain Brown! I use a 0,05 mm fine tip (someone recommended this on here) and it works quite well (if you let it dry properly, which on occasion I haven't )
Don Qui Hotep wrote:Nice job on Gollum! I almost feel for the little bugger. Looking forward to seeing more of your converted Sisters.
Thanks Don Qui Hotep! And your last wish may be my command:
Finally managed to finish those 4:
And as is the way, they came on the battlefield, freshly painted and were wiped out by three shining spears before firing a single bolter shell
I also finished one terminator from the melee squad:
For MCP I ordered some 4ground terrain last year and assembled the first piece... pretty badly, need to be more careful next time. But for a broken down bus stop it looks good enough

Thanks ListenToMeWarriors! Although one suffers from really bad greenstuffritis The others I found angles so it mostly looks like the arms and hands fit together. But was glad to not waste the enforcer bodies.

Slinky wrote:Loving the bus stop - It's amazing how a small printed poster really makes a difference to the realism of these pieces.
Thanks Slinky! There were some posters with the terrain, but they looked not that interesting, so printing my one it was.
And at least one more miniature made it across the desk this month. My Living Saint kitbash from Ydra... Ynd... the Sigmar winged lady She's the end form of my canoness once my friend and me restart our crusade campaign that ground to a halt last year. Not entirely happy with the flag and the wings, but on the whole glad she's done now.
For May I will try to finally get my 5 Seraphim painted (they have been sitting for months now in the primed pile) and can use my four Repentia for the painting comp theme.

gobert wrote:Sweetness! The SMH terminator looks really cool in your colours as does the Stormcasts Sister. Her wings came out great. They look darker towards the bottom to me, is there a zenithal prime underneath the contrast?
Thanks gobert! Now I just need to find the motivation for his 4 brothers And nothing fancy going on with the saint, just primed her with Grey Seer, no zenithal used, just Contrast colors that faded out to the top.
And I hate how little hobby time I spent (the motivation eludes me, seeing how I have enough minis ready for gaming), but I'm planning to start Necromunda with our 4-man-group. I'll start with Orlocks, although a friend asked, why I didn't play Cawdor, if I'm already using Sisters and the church in 40k. So I need to speed through those biker gangers and find the funds to build some religious zealots
But seeing my glacial speed atm it could be some time. But at least the first Orlocks got some color. Not convinced about the method of priming black, than some white (spray and drybrush). Will probably prime the next ones differently.

Thanks gobert! Yeah, it didn't work as I wanted and it was to light. The primers in themselves were good, but the grey one attached to lightly. We live and learn It's probably also why the colors look a bit flat, brighter white would work better with contrast. But the Orlocks will get a fast treatment in the future, can't be bothered more with them as with the Cawdor (as you will see at the end of this post ).
Sherrypie wrote:Huh, I really like that bus stop

Guardling wrote:Yass! More Necromunda people!

Thanks Guardling! Really excited for the game, looks cool rulewise and am currently looking to get all the "Book of" books so we have a good base for campaigns.
Not a lot has happened in June, but did those two minis for the painting comp. I love Discworld and for the theme "Underdogs" no one is more fitting than Fred and Nobby. Lovely sculpts based on the Paul Kidby drawings:
Have more sculpts ready, but seeing as they probably will not be used in a game, it's hard to find the motivation to paint them.
And nearly immediately lost motivation for Orlock after looking more closely at Cawdor. They are a much better fit for a Sister's player Got two boxes and the weapon pack and built the first eight minis:
Word-Keeper Malekai (Leader)
Deacon Vorbis and Amesbry (Champions)
Zebediah and Jebediah (love those polearm/gun weapons)
Noah and Joah (one will be a Juve)
Keturah (Ganger)
Really happy with them (even if they have lots of detail and layers of clothes). Their chose name is the Ordo Soror Amator, as they are big fans of my Sororitas. Hopefully no one gives either side a latin dictionary, could end in bloodshed
And painted up the first Ganger, Noah:
Really happy, will vary the colors a bit on all Gangers, but will always have colors of my Sororitas on them.
And the first terrain bits are gaming-ready, need some more dirt and posters:

And I haven't been completely idle the last weeks and my Cawdor gang is at least a little bit bigger now:
Already one of my favorite minutes because why wouldn't you strap a blunderbuss on a meat hook thingy:
And the gang loves their doc. He's always talking and praising the emperor. Sure, sometimes he says something about four arms but maybe they just misunderstood him.
Again love those Cawdor DIY pole weapons:
The rest of the gang question his color choices but no one was brave enough to tell it to his face yet (or told him that he has some skin color on his boot ):
