ListenToMeWarriors wrote:The Eradicators look great for a quick job, I think they are my favourite sculpts from the Marine side of the box. You have to wonder if they will prove as effective on the tabletop as some claim, they certainly seem strong in principle.

I am a member of a space marine group on Facebook, I think about 90% have swapped out the Judiciar head, I have certainly swapped mine for a scarred up Reiver head.

How did you find Ephrael's cloak to paint? It seems a bit oddly sculpted to me in hand.

Thanks ListenToMeWarriors! I may field them just for the fun, because one of the friends I play with is mightily scared of them, because everyone hypes them. So he can try to kill them while I move in with all my other marines The cloak was... ok to paint. I painted it separately, but getting it on both cloak "points" on the model proved difficult. It actually doesn't fit both ends, but looks well enough. Painting the backpack without repainting the cloak was manageable, but needed precision. I did shading with a light brush, so that it didn't pool to much at the bottom.

gobert wrote:Nice job on the Eradicators, I think the barrels colours look good but the transitions are a bit too stark. Looking forward to seeing how you get on with the rest of Indomitus

Thanks gobert! That is definitely the curse and blessing of Contrast, it is very controllable with experience. Should have maybe tried to blend them into each other instead of waiting for one to try. Might use some shade like Nuln Oil on the barrel, maybe it ties it better together.

youwashock wrote:Eradicators look sweet. The barrels are a bit banded compared to your previous method, but it still works. It does seem a little ironic that the new guy who is supposed to be all about cutting off heads can't seem to keep his own.

Thanks youwashock! It is quite funny, especially since his head isn't even that bad, but the ones from our bitz boxes work so much better

Maharg wrote:Eradicators turned out well. Quite jealous seeing all the Indomitus models in these blogs, I've got to wait months before I get my hands on it

Thanks Maharg! Hope you don't have to wait too long!

Slowly moving forward with the Hospitaller, she's still separate from the base but wanted to look if she fitted with the downed model. Shading the armour and layering helped, now I need some edge highlighting with orange and she's nearly done. Silver and Gold are the colors after that and she has vials on her backpack and I'm gonna try for the first time to make them look, like there is some liquid in there.

And the first space marine character got my attention, the chaplain is such a lovely sculpt and Contrast makes black metal armour very easy.

The Hospitaler is going to be a very colorful model when it is done. Eye-catching. The Chaplain looks good already. Wonder how the Judiciar would look in a similar color.

I’m liking the red on the Hospitaler, nice and vibrant. Good luck with the vials, I hope the experiment goes well! The black metallic armour on the chaplain looks great too

Thanks youwashock! Judiciar will get "only" a silver armour and brown leather coat, want him to look knightly.

Thanks gobert! I need finer brushes for the vials, I finished the Hospitaller yesterday and am quite happy with the syringe, but the vials could use better lines.

And here she is in all her gory glory plus the chaplain got his gold and instead of Reikland Fleshshade I tried Guilliman Flesh and it works very well and is better to control than a normal shade.

Hospitaller turned out great. I like the color on her mask to link her back to the rest of the Sisters. The syringe looks good, as does the gold on the Chaplain.

Thanks theCrowe! It's my patented lazy method of base, shade and than kind of drybrush with a broken brush

gobert wrote:I think she needs to get a new dress, she’s got red on that one! I think the vials look pretty good to me, is the writing on the book a transfer sheet?

Thanks gobert! Now I need a small Cornetto wrapper to top of that image Writing on the book is from the Sororitas transfer sheet, those things are life savers.

Fifty wrote:She looks so tranquil, despite all of the blood on her!

Thanks Fifty! And which one? Both have that absolute faith in the god.emperor (as they should have )

youwashock wrote:Hospitaller turned out great. I like the color on her mask to link her back to the rest of the Sisters. The syringe looks good, as does the gold on the Chaplain.

Thanks youwashock! Mask was a last minute addition, because after putting her on the base, something was lacking and as you say, it ties it a bit together.

A little bit more work on the Chaplain, needs a second go on the head and getting more of the details painted, Grey Seer base is on everything and just awaiting Contrast. And I hate doing vehicles so I started on the rhino to get it out of the way. Gold is mostly based, silver started and after that gonna try some battle damage with a sponge.

Man those Sisters Rhinos have a lot of bling on them, looks like a good start though, the Chaplain is getting there as well.

That Hospitalier looks great, love the blood red armour to lessen the horror to those Sisters surrounding her. Bad news for the last at her feet though...I don't think she is going to pull through.

Thanks ListenToMeWarriors! Hadn't thought of that, making her look less bloody with the red armour. Had to immediately think of Deadpool when I red this "He got the right idea, he's wearing his brown pants today."

squall018 wrote:You always do an impressive job with power armor. Good stuff as always.

Thanks squall018!

Of course after taking the chaplain pics I realized I missed doing scribbles on the scroll on his pistol, a vent on his backpack wasn't black and the skull on his backpack needed silver on the service studs.

The rhino has taken the backseat, I'm now trying to get the seven sisters done to have the squads complete. The harlie also gets the occasional slap of paint. Gonna use a lot of colors on him, a bit like the elves on Discworld who wear objectively gruesome clothes combinations, but their projected glamour makes it look fabulous.
Judiciar is up next from Indomitus, may give his coat a shade with thinned down Agrax, my drybrushing seems a bit too strong. His head is nearly done, managed to get both eyes level
And after seeing that gobert bought one and one of my friends asked if we couldn't play BSF instead of WarCry I caved and finally bought the Zoat. Gonna paint him to match the PA Inquisitor she seems like the kind who would employ a big xenos lizard.

Thanks gobert! Just fit him in between, he deserves being painted soon It is his favorite skirt. And he doesn't like questions like "Why is there only one sleeve?" and "Seriously, is that coat going through your armour?". It's not a greatcoat, it's a weirdcoat

And he is done, meet Judiciar Velox Lem. Painting him was fun and I really like the silver armour and may repeat that on the Bladeguard Ancient. The only weird thing are his ears. They seem very large (head is from a Custodes kit), but with the look he's giving you still shouldn't call him Dumbo

I'd love to know the story behind the sawn off point of the sword. I mean, the sword is styled such that it should have a point, it should be an effective stabby weapon if needed to be used in such a way but it's not pointy any more. It gives it sense of brutality I think but it's almost like there's a great story in how it lost its tip.

Good job on the Judiciar, he certainly looks like he means business. I think the muted colours on him really suit his place in the lore..."I am the lore...I mean law!".

Very slow progress the last days, but I now have the results of my Indomitus expenditures. I had bought two boxes, because a friend wanted to have the core book and one Necron half. Initially I though about just taking the Space Marine half, but I wanted to have the core book too, so two boxes it were. In the end I kept:

1 Core book
1 Space Marines half
3 more bikes
1 Plasmancer (not sure what to use him for, but lovely sculpt)
2 Crypto Thralls (gonna slap some purity seals and imperial transfers on them and use them as Death Cult Assassins)
1 Cryptek Reanimator (size-wise it may be on par with armigers so I'm thinking to put imperial weapons on and use it as a Helverin)

Everything else I sold separately on eBay as auctions starting at 1€. I expected to get some of my money back, but after deducting all fees I now have paid 17,80€ for everything I kept from Indomitus. Best Warhammer Deal ever

But I did paint something, finally did the 5 bolter gals. They are rough in places (and yes, still no srilled or painted barrels ), but fine as gaming pieces and will be the first casualties in-game

Thanks Graven! Playing normal Inquisition is nigh on impossible today, but I now have a nice selection of Inquisitors done and alone they slot perfectly into every Imperial Army so I'm content for the moment. Only the Jokaero is sad, because he will never get taken anywhere

Thanks ListenToMeWarriors! It is a Condemnor Bolter and has special rules against Psykers (and maybe Demons, little hazy on that). It probably will seldom matter ingame, but it sure as hell looks cool

maxwin wrote:Nice wore! what did you use for the snow in the bases?

Thanks maxwin! Also I'm at a loss what a "wore" is I use the GW Texture Paint Valhallan Blizzard for the snow, not cheap, but works and I'm now set in my ways.

youwashock wrote:Such a nice model. That blue lipstick is to die for. Looking forward to seeing her stand with your Sisters.

Thanks youwashock! It won't take long for her to join the Sororitas, body and backpack are done.

Pressure valve did cost a lot of nerves and at least in theory I need to optimize it a bit, but I'm scared of ruining everything with a wrong stroke, I don't have small brushes atm and Army Painter Character and Citadel Medium Layer make this stuff a real challenge.

Thanks DJJazzyJeff! Let's hope I'm not getting sick of it, still lots of minis to go

Had a bit of time and motivation on my hand and surprisingly finished Greyfax. Quite happy with her, did a little bit on the pressure valve indicator, so that the inner ring is also black. It won't get better like this, so I'll leave it be for now.
And next up will be the first five Assault Intercessors and hopefully finally the last two Repentias, sitting on this desk for too long.

Thanks gobert! Next order (still a bit off) will definitely include a detail brush. Hopefully it really makes it easier.

Small update, my Sister and Terminator Librarian arrived. And it's proof that GW reads this forum, because I was complaining on youwashock's plog that my order still wasn't sent and five minutes later I had the shipping confirmation in the mail
And I'm finally psuhing forward on the Repentia. I'm not a fan of the old design, because nothing about them says repentant sinner, but the new ones have their own struggle. Faces, Eviscarators and the self-mutiliation all look the part, but their robes and shoes really scream "I'm an athlete". So I thought it only fitting to give one of the models some nice Stan Smith sneakers

zahnib wrote:Oh my god I'd never noticed the little booties on the new Repentia! Those Adidas stripes should definitely provide a +1 to movement

Thanks zahnib! Yeah, I believe that the third incarnation of Repentia models (ca. 2040) will get everything right And I will discuss the stat increase with my friends, although I fear they don't want those gals even faster in their face

Finished both Repentia and started on the Assault Intercessors. Luckily they will be very easy to paint, gonna try and give them a big push today. And because the heat has gone I primed some more and quite diverse models. Zoat will get a matching imperial paintjob to go Xenos hunting with the PA Inquisitor, the Hobbits will do duty as halfling scouts in my Averlander mercenaries in Mordheim and Luke Skywalker... is just for fun, although I'm watching the Legion Clone Wars Core Set, even if I won't play. But am watching the movies and show atm so got in the mood.

My gaming group consists of four players (me included) and after some time we finally managed to all have time the same evening and did a very nice 4-player Mordheim game. We played the scenario before with 3 players. The goal is to get a merchant's son off the board. He starts in the middle and moves 1D6 with scatter dice before we players move. And I nearly got him off the field, I only would have needed two more rounds, but alas, I failed my rout test and lost the game. So I was eager to do it better this time.
After deploying in the four corners the merchant's son decided he wanted to walk away from his spot in the middle of the battlefield... a whooping 1" We all raced towards the guy (racing in the broadest sense for the dwarve treasure hunters ). Carnival of Chaos and Undead were in prime positions to snatch him next round but apparently he didn't like the look of those rescuers so with a new roll of the scatter dice he walked 5" into my direction and into a small boat on the river. This was perfect because my Skink Starpriest Skinky (subbing for a Sword for Hire Warlock) got Flight of Zimmeran off and now stood on the boat with the merchant's son. The only problem: He now had to get him off the board and was only allowed the 4 inch movement. So it was clear I would need at least 8-9 rounds to reach a table edge. And the dwarf player had a lot of crossbows and an open field to target me. He moved forward with his slayers and started shooting whilst I put the rest of my warband in front of Skinky and the merchant's son, codename human shield
On the other river side Carnival and Undead had a little skirmish and than the Carnival walked away to kill some wayward zombies for easy experience. The only stuff he left standing were three nurglings who charged into the two slayers... and tarpitted them the rest of the game. Our dwarf player was furious, because he just couldn't kill them.
Meanwhile I tried to get to the table edge and fend off the Undead who now had no opponent holding them up. Luckily for me the vampire (the grey skeleton) of the warband catched stupidity early on in the campaign and just drooled some rounds instead of being able to attack me. Nevertheless once he arrived he wreaked havoc. But his injury rolls (and those of the crossbows of the dwarves) weren't good enough so my people managed to still block the route for Skinky. Unfortunately I had to start taking rout tests shortly after that but my warband stood firm, even after losing members left and right. Two rounds before I would have gotten of the board the human shield consisted only of my last Bergjäger hero, one Sword fighter and Skinky. But the vampire started to drool again and my Bergjäger aimed and she killed him with a critical hit. After that the dwarf player failed his two shooting attempts at Skinky, the Carnival player was too far away and last round the Undead failed their rout test, fled the battlefield and I walked the merchant's son off the field.
It was a nailbiter to the end and I was so happy having fled the board. But not without great losses, 5 henchmen and 4 heroes were out of action. But only 2 henchmen permanently did in the aftergame so it was a win all around.

I would love it, if there would be some new models. There are some nice alternatives out there, but I wouldn't mind plastic remakes of the old boxes. I wasn't in the hobby first time the game came around and would love the witch hunter sculpts remade. Although even a Made to Order would make me very happy.

In other news I did not do the big push on the Assault Intercessors, but took stock of what I actually have lying around and sorting my cabinet a bit. Luckily my pile isn't as bad as I thought.

We start with the remnants of my unbuilt and unpainted marines. Not much left, but the vehicles will hurt, I so hate painting vehicles. Although the Dreads should be a little easier. And I have to finish of the Deathwatch bird, it is more far along as I remembered. Necromunda Enforcers are on ice for the time being, although I could see them used as scouts, may have to ponder about that.

Sisters "pile" on the right. Currently looking for hatches for the Conquest rhino. Thought I had some in my Bitz box, but seems I was wrong. Immolator will be a to paint, but Retributors and Seraphim should be reasonably fast, once I start building them.
On the left are my SCE who will one day get painted and then not added on (probably, but I'll have them ready for WarCry and maybe Meeting Engagement games.

The most mixed pile. I really want to have my KO done and the finishing line is very close, as you can see, but I always get distracted with power amour Also some stuff for WarCry left (some was next to the sisters pile in the last image)
In the middle we have some Sector Mechanicus terrain, the terrain from Kill Team Rouge Trader and then some Undead for WarCry and Mordheim (the ogre too). They should paint up quick, once the time comes. Gonna try out my scheme for the WarCry Nighthaunts next month in the painting comp.
On the left we have the Mechanicus stuff with one Imperial Knight and then some Skitarii. They are up once I'm through with Space Marines and Sisters (although if the latter get an army bundle box this christmas, they will get priority).
The GSC will stay around and someday get painted for Kill Team or Necromunda.

And my current painting table, we'll see if I get through this stuff in September, it's the goal at least.

And I took the opportunity to rearrange my cabinet a bit (Mordheim models got banished to the container that already holds the BSF baddies, I need more cabinet space).
First up are the Space Marines, my most sizable force. Upper level are HQs, Elites und lower level the troops (and no more place for more of them ) Quite happy to see them all together, at the new 500 points or even 1.000 points level I can build a lot of varying lists.

The next shelf needs more order in the near future, it's mostly imperial factions and some xenos from BSF and my GSC test models. Lower shelf shows my progress with the sisters army.

And last but not least the two fantasy shelves. On top my WarCry stuff and the first models for my SCE. Below not everything is painted by me. All purple KO infantry and ships just got some additional work like a new base or some edge highlighting, but were bought as an army on eBay. Everything blue and metallic green is mine however

And with that I now should start the work day and try to paint a bit this evening whilst the wife is out and the kids sleep.

Yes, I added to Detolf's capacity, I still can put one more shelf in, but I was also surprised how full it already is. I have kind of a plan, October will definitely be ghost month. I think a power armour break should be good for me

I will have to rearrange the imperial misc. one, although it represents the Imperium very well, with the chaotic organisation Finishing Aos/Fantasy stuff is at the forefront of my goals.

After tidying everything away I started to get back to painting and building. Did both murder buckets and will use them as Death Cult assassins in my Sisters army. Because everything is fine if there's purity seals and Imperial doodads on Xenos tech, right?

Assault Intercessors are progressing slowly, next up is doing the rest of the gold details. Then there's only holsters, pouches and base left.

And very happy with the Zoat progress. Color scheme should surprise no one Have to find out, how the effect on his front plate was done on the studio model, quite like that red/black scheme. But first all the cables and canisters.

Thanks Yorkright! And those Xenos will never turn on their new father, the almighty God-Emperor. They shall only do His bidding and slaughter the pesky enemies of the Imperium. Who even dares to think those lovely little bots would go back to a mute monarch (that was his name, wasn't it ) are mistaken

Hope they will not falter if I play against a friend, who is currently in the progress of painting up some Necrons. Their reprogramming must hold!

Used home office lunch break to get along with the Zoat. Coming together now, pistol and flask on his side are the only stuff left (and some cleanup and weathering on his armour).

Thanks Captain Brown, if I realize I'm missing something, I may take you up on that offer.

While the wife was fighting with the snotlings yesterday I made the final push and finished Kadal Lucu, the Zoat. Was at a loss at first with the pistol, it is very busy, but managed to get it to align with the rest of the colors. I feel the weathering on his armour is a bit too subtle, but was glad the sponge did the trick. And I hate that I'm not able to get little dots with the small brush, the purple specks in the were supposed to be bubbles. Ah well, maybe next time.
And because I like that model it got a final passover after finishing and I should have cleaned up all the smudges were other colors came onto the skin. Alas, once I look at the large pictures with no doubt I will find something I missed.
But overall quite happy and he is the perfect companion for Lord-Inquisitor Draxus.

Great job, Viterbi. I like how well it will fit in with your Imperial scheme without being overtly aligned, really good color choices there. The purple plating came out well but my favorite bit is the dark carapace on his back.

Also, I never realized before, but dang if that zoat model isn't t h i c c

Thanks ListenToMeWarriors and Yorkright! The belly armour was Leadbelcher base, than Stormhost Silver so it is a bit lighter, than Blood Angels Red. After that a bit (nearly nonexistent on the brush) of Black Templar for the black streaks and finally some Ardcoat to get the shine.

See, this what zoats were supposed to look like back in the late 80's; lots of IG players tried to paint them, few pulled it off. This is excellent work. And absolutely love the Infinity Stones glove- what a great Easter Egg on the table!

Thanks Meer_Cat! Glad you like his glove and yeah, the colors wouldn't be amiss in an 80's music video.

Finally finished the Assault Intercessors. They are easy enough models, but I seem to need a power armour break. October will be all ghosts and a bit of fantasy odds and ends.

More fun was Daemonifuge's elf companion. He was a lot of fun to paint, did nearly all of him today. Once I started it just came together. Although the gems on the swords aren't perfect after seeing the pics, need to patch them a bit up.

And I need some halfling scouts for my Mordheim Averlanders so the Hobbits get painted. All contrast so far.

Thanks gobert! It's always weird to paint such models where I don't have the paint scheme down and to decide how many colors I can get away without so they fit together.

Dingdong, the Hobbit's are done. I go for a quick and dirty job on my Mordheim minis and these are no exception. All told I needed 45 minutes (excluding drying time) to get them to this finish. They are a great advertisement for Contrast paints. Bluehat is my fave of them (although I realised after looking at GW's pics that I painted his neck in shirt colors and missed details on his coat ).

Thanks ListenToMeWarriors! Once I had a grip on the colors I wanted to use, he came along very fast. After having read the Daemonifuge comics I felt he shouldn't be too flashy although the purple and blue are bright enough to show he was a clown once

amazingturtles wrote:Nifty little hobbitses! I especially like the guy with the blue cap. Hobbits must have style

Thanks amazingturtles! Bluehat is the best! And after giving them all the same colors I felt he needed something snazzy.

The Hobbits made their first appearance in two Mordheim multiplayer games on Friday. They actually seem to prove useful with short range shooting, game 1 they managed with two shots to get my friend's ogre bodyguard to the ground so he couldn't charge. Second game Bluehat managed to survive (at first) multiple attacks by a trollslayer and in return managed to get him on the ground Unfortunately Bluehat needed a 6 in my turn to kill him, but failed. Then the dwarf stood up and beheaded the poor wee thing. But he survived the after game.

First and not successful outing came also by Harvey the Ogre. I bought a lot (in both senses of the word) of ogres a few month ago, but sold them on last month. But in doing so I did take a closer look and found this double-headed ogre conversion the previous owner had started, but didn't paint. So I kept him and some bits before selling the rest and now will use him as the ogre mercenary in Mordheim. Tried some new stuff with him, denim trousers did not come out well and tattoos need some work, but overall he was quite fun to paint. In-game he did of course nothing, apart from being very expensive

And got some more color on the Bladeguard Ancient, want him to be a very muted mini and did the robes in grey and the armour darkly washed silver like the Judiciar. And as you can see, the Judiciar had gets finally used, it fits this model much better in my opinion.

This evening will play my first 9th edition Combat Patrol with a 25 PL Sisters force. Planned on bringing the Penitent Engine and the two Stand-Ins for Death Cult Assassins. I'm sure I could've gotten them nearly done yesterday and finished on my lunch break today, but I wasn't that motivated last night so they will get a slower paintjob and some play in a later game.

One of the joys of doing a blog is feeling great about completing a miniature and then the resulting pictures draw your eye to mistakes that you never noticed in person. Why are our eyes so useless???

Thanks amazingturtles! Universe exploding sounds about right And I can't take too much credit for the holster, just Grey Seer base paint, some Gore Grunta Fur Contrast paint and that's it. Love that stuff for all the holster and puches, makes painting them so much easier and faster.

Yorkright wrote: Make sure you post up some pics of your game! That Ancient is a good conversion, the judiciar head looks fine.

Thanks Yorkright!

And as requested some pics of the game. As said, we did Combat Patrol. My friend has very recently (sometime last year) rejoined our gaming group after a longer hiatus, but had only played Mordheim, Kill Team and some WarCry. So this was his first game of 40k in over 15 years and my first that was not a narrative mission, but with objectives.
We each had a 25 PL force and had real fun. Me a little more, because he didn't reinforce the flank where his Scarabs and Spider were holding the objective. My inquisitor slowly advanced over the course of the game and held the objective after round 4. My squad in the ruins held the objective after turn 1 and raised the banner to generate even more victory points.

Both our Warlords came back from the grave, his Overlord died the first time in quite a fun way. I can use a stratagem that let's me roll a D6, when a Repentia dies. If I manage to get a 4+, she deals a Mortal Wound to her opponent. So the Overlord basically killed himself first time round Stratagem brought him back with one wound, but at this time my Canoness with her relic blessed blade arrived and with 4 attacks hitting on 2, wounding on 3s and flat 3 damage he soon was scrap metal.

The first fight, Repentia Superior was a little disappointing, but the Repentias themselves were quite formidable.

After her killing his Warlord (and netting me 6 VP) it's quite understandable that my friend was quite joyful, when his Flayed Ones tore my Canoness to shreds. But I too had a stratagem with which to revive my character models once and give them as many wounds back as I can with 1-3 miracle dice. So suddenly the Canoness stood there again, fresh, shiny and with her normal 5 wounds. Next turn she shot the spider, charged and slaughtered the Flayed Ones and last turn killed the remaining Warriors. Those were a little pesky, because they wouldn't stop returning Must've killed that squad one and a half times over

I was also up on victory points at the end, but that was because of me playing the mission. Had my friend made some slightly different choices it would have been much closer.
But looking at the pics makes me so happy, because that's what I'm painting for. Not to have them standing in my cabinet, but out on the battlefield, writing their own history. We are thinking about starting a Crusade campaign shortly and I'm already excited.

And because of his loss, my friend asked, if we could do a rematch this evening So there will be another game and I'm tweaking my list a bit to test some units. Repentia and their Superior are out and Thaddaeus plus 3 Arcos in. Also built the special edition sister, but converted her to have a bolt pistol (to have the Wrath of the Emperor relic pistol), put a Kromlech silencer on top and changed her other arm to a power sword. Backpack is from the Canoness set, just had to clip of the sheathed chainsword on the side.

This morning I changed hand and sword, because the first try wasn't cut well at the glove and the second fitted better. Then I thought "well, you could prime her". After that, I was like "well, you could put one or two colors on". Three hours later she is ready for her first battle this evening

Very happy with her, although I had forgotten to cut off the pistol grip on her holster before painting so had to do it on the finished model. Because she has her pistol in hand, we couldn't have one sticking out the holster now, could we?

By all accounts it looks like the Necrons will be a different proposition once the new codex drops

Nice work on the sister. I love it when a project just takes hold and you need to finish it. Such a rush. Not slog, not tedium, just the thrill of the hobby. She turned out great, now go out there and purge some filthy xenos and heretics!

Thanks Nevelon! Have a short batrep later in this post, she did well!

amazingturtles wrote:Ah, i love painting days like that, when things just seem to work. And she looks great! completely unworried about the fact that her foot is almost on fire. that's the power of faith!

congratulations on your victory too!

Thanks amazingturtles! And pft, that's no fire, that's a little rise in the ambient temperature for a battle sister

Syro_ wrote:Thanks for the batrep Viterbi
That sounds like a fun battle. That power of the repentias sounds scary to go against.

Thanks Syro_! Repentia can make mince of a lot of things, but they have to get there, they have no armour and only a Feel No Pain throw. But if they get there, it can turn nasty for the opponent.

youwashock wrote:Nice game shots. Minis in action are always good to see. Really like the turbo-painted Sister. She turned out sweet!

Great job on the speed painting, funny how the idea of getting a game motivates a person.

Thanks Yorkright! I always paint fastest, when I really want a mini in a game. Give me a deadline and suddenly I can paint very fast indeed

inmygravenimage wrote:Nice work on Sister Speedy! I love when folk aren't precious about "special" minis.

Thanks Graven! I only hesitated for a second before converting her. But for what she cost I thought that making her a canoness would make more sense than a standard battle sister.

Congrats on your win and on knocking out your new cannoness in record time. You added a lot of character even with a few weapon/backpack swaps!

Thanks Don Qui Hotep! I echo your sentiment and it made it very hard to decide which models I sent into our little Combat Patrol game, because nearly all of them hadn't seen the table before.

ListenToMeWarriors wrote:The silencer is a great addition to the Canonness, and great to see your in game pictures.

Thanks ListenToMeWarriors! Everything is better with a silencer And my friend is already excited for the new codex, I preordered for both of us, Necron codex for him, Space Marines for me.

I didn't take a lot of pics from our second battle and unfortunately for my friend, the sisters still scored a major victory. In retrospect his choosing of his deployment zone wasn't optimal and he just didn't have enough units to go around scoring.

Although I got pretty lucky and killed his Canoptek Spyder turn 1 with Smite. It was quite fun, because my friend had a second read and realized that the Spyder can negate psychic powers. And what did I roll? A 12 I gladly took the 2 Mortal Wounds from perils of the warp and smote the little Spyder. That meant he couldn't bring back scarabs and lost a good unit.
After that I was able to snatch two objectives (stood on one already and got the second with my arco-flagellants). Action moved to the middle and my new Canoness did me proud. She shot some Necron warriors with her relic bolt pistol, charged the Overlord, didn't do much damage (he neither) and unceremoniously shot him in his turn in the shooting phase

Last round I let the arcos get to his warriors to test their offensive output. And dang, they can bring the hurt. May pick up a whole squad, three are not enough
My friend is now eagerly awaiting the new codex and will try to get some more objective grabbing units into the fold.

I'm still fighting a battle to get my rhino painted, but am slowly winning. It's mostly details now and then I can have fun with some weathering and call it a day. Although now seeing the pics I realize that all the gold details are only gold on the front, but not the sides

Last but not least, patience paid off and I got the Marvel Crisis Protocol Core Set for 68€ delivered on ebay. Built the terrain and 7 of the heroes and villains. They are very fiddly minis and I'm glad I never have to assemble an army of them

Thanks Captain Brown! I always admire the amount of tanks you have painted to a fine standard!

First to all the concerned citizens: Of course the Hydra just shows the allegiance of my sisters to my Space Marines, which are despite all the three-headed reptiles and fondness for the letter A, a very loyal chapter named The Emperor's Fangs. So I can assure you, there is no heresy at work here (I can't bring myself to read that sentence seriously, but they really are loyalists ).

Second I did one of those tedious tasks and put a magnet under every battle sister and associated models, giving me an easier way to transport them.

Third and last, the rhino is done. Quite happy with the weathering, don't think I went to much overboard. And it's evenly distributed, because my rhinos just zip forward with no regard to cover or anything. The Emperor protects!
And I ordered some big bases to put all my rhino chassied tanks on, it looks cooler and I can also put magnets under the base to better transport the tanks.

Thanks ListenToMeWarriors! I'm anxious to get a second transfer sheet, it is just glorious. When looking at chapters for my loyalist (can'Ät stress this enough ) space marines I just stopped right when I saw the sheet and tested out the green metallic armour.

Luckily nearly all Marvel Crisis Protocol stuff is out of stock at my usual online shop and the sellers on Amazon have a hefty markup. So I'm not tempted at the moment, although having said that I pre-ordered the Taskmaster/Punisher set and would buy Hawkeye/Black Widow and Vision/Winter Soldier in a heartbeat.

Syro_ wrote:The rhino looks great Viterbi, and I'm impressed with your perseverance to put magnets on your entire Sisters of Battle army (plus related units).

Thanks Syro_! The important thing is that I will now glue magnets under each unit as soon as it is finished. I put magnets under most of my Space Marines in the past and have only to do it to some stragglers. It really makes transportation so much easier and with the homemade magnetic boxes.

Yeah, apart from the core set after a while the character packs seem to go out of print. I guess the smaller companies (are Atomic Mass one? I know little of them) have trouble keeping so many SKUS available and active so just stop producing them. So I guess any Marvel fans out there should order any must haves for them asap as you have done.

As far as I'm aware the current stock issues are just because of scaled down production. I really hope that the first SKUs don't already go out of print Just in case should start making a list what I want and need from the already released stuff and keep an eye out for restocks.

Papa Nurgle is doing the rounds so I had to forgo gaming on the last and this weekend. But I've not been totally idle and firstly did the basing on my first rhino. I actually thought it would fit the base a little better, but nevertheless it is now ready to be transported in my magnet box. Kept the base pretty simple, one coat black, some stripes to simulate a street and then some snow once the rhino was glued to the base.

Although I have to admit that the rust (that's what the pigment label says) looks more like dust, but WTH...

I finally bought the Reiver Lieutenant (because having 4 Primaris LTs is just not enough), it's such a great pose and I wanted him for a long time. And seeing as I will start my Crusade force with just Phobos units I wanted him included. He should paint up pretty fast. Like my Canoness he also got a silencer on his pistol. Everything is cooler with a silencer!

After reading through the new Codex I realized that I can't do legal terminator squads with my Space Marine Heroes ones. Luckily I had three termis lying around that I wanted to paint for my abandoned Deathwatch project and after some rebasing and pulling of arms they now are ready to join their better sculpted brothers (once I come around to building them).

I also had one Assault Marine from the same project around and decided that I need one more Lieutenant, just not a Primaris one. He will join my Jump Captain and the Jump Assault squad in battle and got a Power Axe (from some Fyreslayers bits I had) and a Deathwatch boltgun that looks esoteric enough I will use it as a combi-grav

And this month I want to get most of my Undead done, up first are the Nighthaunt for WarCry. Someone on this board did some nice black & white ghosts with color accents on the roses and leaves. I plan to steal that idea but execute it with far less diligence These will be my quick win ghosts, my plan is to paint in the color details, drain the mini in Basilicanum Grey and call it a day

What size base did you use for the rhino? There’s a surprising amount of overhang for what looks a big base. Still, the road markings and snow look great.

It's the 120 mm base, the one that comes with flyers or the Ridgerunner.

I somehow connect the ghosts to Fifty, but could be mistaken.

Thanks Yorkright! Actually Phobos units were the first I painted and once my LT is done I already have a 50 PL only Phobos force:

Sorry for bad light that pic was just to show my friend what will shoot and punch him off the battlefield I also have 5 Infiltrators still on sprue and 5 of the monopose Reiver bodies to convert into Incursors with my left over bits from the Infiltrator sprue. And may get another 5 Reivers to equip them with pistols, not sure yet.

youwashock wrote:Looking forward to the stylized ghosts. Tank base works, I think. Contemptor hanging out on the fringe due for paint soon?

Contemptor is one of those may paint him in the spur of the moment models. I think his panels are the right size so I could use Contrast color and he may get a coat of Akhelian Green (which looks blue over silver) on a whim.

zahnib wrote:That's a lot of projects you've got on the go Viterbi! Nice work on the SoB Rhino. Was that the largest base GW makes??

Thanks zahnib! Now that I had another look there is the option of getting 170 mm bases. Had a look around but didn't find cheaper ones on eBay so I will stick with the small bases.

A little work was done, but I'm not satisfied with it. Wanted to make the ghost look like Cel Shading, but even after clean-up I'm not happy with the look. It will get a more traditional paintjob now.

More happy with the first low-effort ghost, now there's just another 7 to paint and 8 or 9 to build and prime.

Started work on Red, already enjoying putting down the base colors, such a lovely sculpt

And finally did a quick paintjob on the Primaris LT, very happy with him, one of my favorite sculpts, so happy he will join the fray once I start our Crusade campaign with a friend or two (November earliest).

Thanks gobert! Low-effort ghost was sprayed Grey Seer, than I painted the vines and roses with normal paints, put Basilicanum Grey Contrast over the whole mini and drybrushed the ghost with Celestra Grey after everything was dry.
And thanks for the tip with the rose. In reality it's not that dark but a little brighter accent on the top could really help make it pop.

Iron Man is already based red too, but only because I did the eye lenses on the LT and thought "eh, gonna base layer Iron Man with contrast, if I have it out anyway" . But he will most definitely get some more colors too in the next days.
I'm not sure about the material of the Hellboy figs, some kind of plastic is my best guess.

Regarding the cel shading I had watched a video for painting the Marvel Crisis Protocol terrain that way. You paint it normally (base, wash, maybe a light drybrush) and than you do edge highlighting but with black so that it looks like hand-drawn, here's the video, very nice tutorial:

Found a pocketful of motivation und pushed the Penitent Engine over the finish line. Could have used a touchup here and there, but it's good enough for gaming.

Nice one! It’s a bit of an odd sculpt the penitent engine I think. But as always your Imperial colours shine through! Is the pilot blue because he’s cold or because he’s nearly dead?

Nice work on the Penitent Engine Viterbi, I like the blue flesh tones. I agree with gobert, it is a bit of an odd sculpt, but you've done a great job. I wish they'd just done a plastic version of the old metal one.

Thanks gobert! Actually after I put the Grey Seer base down for the Contrast skin application I realized that in combination with the purple pants he gave of a bit of a Joker vibe. So I left his skin white, made the helmet green and somewhere Dr. Arkham is very happy indeed

Thanks zahnib! Yeah, it is a bit weird, but I've come to like it and can't wait to charge it into heretics and xenos alike!

I built and primed the last ghosts and some of them are already in the works (as can be seen on the following pictures), but I wanted to get some hangerson out of the way.
First up are the Count-As Death Cult Assassins, the reprogrammed murder buckets. My friend has them for their Necron army all painted up and it will be fun when they clash on the battlefield
Secondly I finally finished the Canoness from the Sororitas Army Set, so I finally painted all minis from the set ( I had set her and the Penitent Engine aside for a while, because all the other Sororitas stuff I bought after the set was much more interesting ).

The problem with Penitent engines is I cannot see them without repeating those Sean Connery lines from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. It looks great in your scheme, as do the heretical death cult assassin and Cannoness. Grand stuff.

Thanks ListenToMeWarriors! And when a model brings recollections of Connery's gruff delivery it can't be a bad model

Captain Brown wrote:Viterbi,

Thanks Captain Brown!

And with the Sisters models out of the way the ghosts got my full attention. They paint up so quick and nice. First up were the four chainrasps I had left from the Briar Queen warband. Was quite puzzled by red hood because there were no roses on his base, all other models have them. So I opted for painting the hood red and his shackles on the base green. It will suffice. Candle guy got some more colors because in WarCry I can use him as a leader type (who is normally represented by candelabra guy from the chainrasp box, but I already painted him in another scheme for Mordheim and he is on a square base).

As suggested by gobert and Maharg I painted the roses a bit brighter after sloshing the model with Basilicanum Grey to make them pop more. Also redid them on the test model and painted up her three sisters yesterday evening. That brings me to eight finished models.

It's good to see that there are some gaps on the models I thought I filled up with glue, but apparently didn't work. Hellboy and the Cairn Wraith in the background are scheduled for the weekend, after I have finished that bunch:

Front row I want to do today. The other five in the back are planned for Thursday. Unfortunately they have no sculpted bases, so I will paint their weapon for a color splash and I have flowers lying around somewhere for their bases.

And the ghosts are done, decided to add to all skulls some Blood for the Blood Good for extra gribbliness. Bell guy also got another finish and blood on his arms because he's a special model in WarCry.

Thanks gobert! The ghosts are all finished on the pics, everyone with a skull got it bloddied (the Banshees only their jaw, the rest is under the hood). And the package declared the purple flowers as Highland Tuft. I'm no expert, if that's true. Alas I had nearly none left, because I used it all up for the big Playmobil arena and had to pick some from it

Finished the last Nighthaunt, the Cairn Wraith. Went for a different scheme, because I can also use him with my Bonereapers in WarCry so I didn't want him completely affiliated with the Nighthaunts. He got the more classic green glowy look and pristine white bones. The rusty scythe and the flower show the allegiance a bit. And he is infantry sized mini #160 for this year, so I already broke my 150 from last year.

And I didn't want to get the Artist Proof Space Marine figure, but after seeing some very funny Tweets by Adam Troke and his DA one and the unpainted pics by ListenToMeWarriors I bought one yesterday and looking very much forward to painting it in my chapter colors.

He is a big one:

He reminds me of a Buzz Lightyear toy at that scale. But if there was a space marine toy what pithy quotes would it say when you pressed the buttons? Besides "For the Emperor!"
Maybe a voice command circuit.
Child says "What is your Duty?"
Toy responds "To serve Emperor's Will."
Child "What is Emperor's Will?"
Toy "That we fight and die."
Child "What is Death?"
Toy "It is our duty."

This would be a real plot twist for Tot Story 5

Great, now I want one with voice

After breakfast the kids ran off to their room, the wife started organizing her home office so I went off to the cellar and finished the best paranormal investigator in the world. He was fun although the details are partially soft on this mini. Now I have to set the scenery and do the glamour shots of him and the ghosts.

And I separated the big marine, easier than I thought.

Thanks ListenToMeWarriors! I'm actually not sure, how many other minis are in there, it will be enough to last me through 2021 in all likelyhood And I will have a look at the minis soon, because the new painting comp motto is Saints & Sinners and I'll probably enter Rasputin.

After finishing Red and reaching my "painted this year" milestone, I took it a bit slower. No pics, but I built 5 retributors and their 2 cherubs for my SoB and am in the process of finishing the last three Mortek Guard for my OBR WarCry warband.

But I got a few games in, started a Crusade campaign against a friend and his Necrons and brought my Space Marines (Phobos only for the start) and we're now 2 50 PL games in.

First game we were allowed to set up 2 objectives each on the battlefield and got only victory points, if we held at least two. I also had one terrain piece, where my Space Marine Captain had to perform a ritual each round... you know, how loyalists normally do
I deployed one Infiltrator squad quite far forward to stop his main army and buy my captain time so I could get ahead on victory points. Needless to say, the Infiltrator's plan worked, but they got torn to shreds in the line of duty.
MVP of the game was the Invictor Battlesuit, he killed the Overlord, 8 Immortals, managed to push the Necrons of their objectives so they didn't get victory points and when he died, managed to explode and take more Necrons with him
But the most fun were the Eliminators. My friend was very happy to deploy his shiny new Hexmark and unfortunately my snipers took his four wounds of directly and he didn't have a chance to shine. Poor fella.
In the end nearly all of my army was dead (his was also depleted) but we went to the regular end of the game (turn five) and I won by a small margin, because he managed to kill my captain in the last round, but that 30 points weren't enough. All in all a fun game that really showed you need to start getting victory points early, because the opponent might still manage to snag some at the end of the game and than it's over.

Some impressions, we didn't take many pics:

The emotionless warriors are getting ready for the fight

The incursors who I sent forward what nearly cost me my victory, because I didn't control my own objective, because they were too far away

The thin green line

The end of the thin green line

Lt. managed to survive the first round, but than was overwhelmed by attacks.

The Rematch followed a few days later, a 25 PL game, mission was Assassinate and I had to kill his Overlord. If he survives, my friend would get 50 victory points and I could only get a draw, if I wound the Overlord in every of the five rounds. So in the first round I shoot the Overlord with my Captain, because he has a kind of sniper rifle. I hit, I wound... he saves That means I have to take him out or I will lose this game. I raced my Warsuit to the front and my friend was pretty surprised one round later, when I charged it into his warriors and the Overlord. He thought I could only charge the nearest unit. Two rounds of combat and shooting (Warsuit is a vehicle) ensued, but the Overlord survived, he made his invuls (although a re-roll via stratagem was neccessary in round 2). He then killed the Warsuit and the rest of his army mopped up my survivors. Should've pushed more units to the front, but still a fun game and again going until the end.

Deathmarks had a good overview of the battlefield and were one of the reasons I didn't push forward but remained behind an obscuring terrain piece.

Infiltrators should have pushed forward instead of trying to save the captain.

So close to victory...

And very fresh a game of Mordheim after a longer pause from my side. Orcs vs. Undead vs. Averlanders. Fun game although we didn't adapt the mission parameters of Treasure Hunt well enough for Multiplayer so squabbled around the Stoic Arms I was very apprehensive when the Undead Horde was nearly upon me, because I hadn't replenished my warband after the losses in the last game weeks ago. Luckily the spontaneously decided to attack the orcs instead and I could slowly thin them out with bows and coordinated attacks from behind. But the Vampire got the treasure chest and managed to get it over a table edge, wasn't fast enough to get to them, especially because he mounted Operation Undead Shield For the next game I have to get some new henchmen was really low on numbers and would have died, if the Undead hadn't changed course.

There's a new warband in town and knowing my friend's painting pace they will be all more colorful for the next game. But they took a beating, let's see how they will bounce back (we know the squigs will).

The Walking Dead (skeletons are all count-as-ghouls)

My left flank looking at the approaching orcs and goblins, thinking "nah, we just gonna turn the corner and go the other way".

My right flank who very much appreciated the left flank joining, because this is a Str 6 T 5 vampire. Luckily he went into the Stoic Arms without attacking anyone. Sadly he found the treasure and managed to get it home.

Sorry to hear that Yorkright. I'm lucky that way, because my gaming group is four men strong (that's already me included) and as we're playing in our homes, there were no restrictions (until now, fingers crossed).
We had a few Warcry games over skype (I was game master). It was quite fun and the setup wasn't so hard, put my phone on a tripod so everyone could see the battlefield. Maybe give it a try.

IGtR= wrote:A great rate of batreps - must have been a great boost to morale! If only the rest of us were so lucky!!

Hope you too can get some games in the not so distant future!

tzurk wrote:Thanks for sharing the batreps & pics! Lovely to see well painted minis in action on well painted terrain!

Love the Lt standing strong against the deathmarks.

I have never played Mordheim before but want to - the general vibe is really cool and you've managed to capture that dilapidated Diablo-y feel with your table.

I always find playing to be a good motivator for more painting/building too - good luck with the next minis!

Can't take credit for the Mordheim table, it's from a friend, but it is a very cool one. You should try it out sometime, if you have a small gaming group who is interested in a campaign. Broheim.net is a good source for rules, warbands and such.

So, finally an update, had a look around the News & Rumours section from time to time but have neglected P&M completely these last days. But I can blame the young ones, the apparently played with Nurglings and brought a little cold back from Kindergarten and graciously transferred it to the wife and me But we were healthy enough to work from home, but posting motivation was down. But I wasn't idle (and feeling better after a couple of days) and have some finished minis to show.

First up my last three Mortek Guard for WarCry, which were finished in ridiculously slow fashion, but now they are done.

More fun were a lot of Hobbits for my halfling warband. They are very relaxing to paint, because I use almost only Contrast and would just slosh some colors over the minis every lunch break. It is a good training for brush control by the way.

I was pretty miffed, after I stripped the four Hobbits from the Fellowship sert. I had bought them used on ebay, because Sam is holding a frying pan and one of the halfling heroes is the halfling cook. But the frying pan was weak and my toothbrush broke it off and it got lost in the drain Luckily I managed to built him a new one.

And if you slosh enough paint on minis, someday they are done

The henchmen:

The heroes:

And another Frodo sculpt will be used as the halfling thief (he even got some edge highlighting):

And my favorite model (bullroarer tuk) and my leader (who will get another name, as the rest of the Hobbits):

Pig sold separately. Speaking of pigs, the other three are in line and awaiting their base, wash drybush and hopefully some of these days the bases I ordered in October.

And all the ready models from the warband who may see their first battle next weekend (albeit not all of them, have to see how many I can take with the 500 goldcoins starting budget):

And I'm speed painting these three monsters as NPC for a Mordheim mission and should have them ready shortly:

That's it and tomorrow I really need to take a look at other plogs, a lot seems to have happened

Thanks Captain Brown! That was a near miss, but if I learned anything from reading your plogs, it's that somewhere in every household there is a solution for a hobby problem
Although I only bought the Hobbits for Mordheim I actually got so excited that I plan on starting a Rohan force and than try to nudge my friends in at least trying out Battle Companies (which basically is Mordheim in Middle-Earth).

gobert wrote:Fancy monsters, the BFTBG on the wolf is cool

Thanks gobert! And had to think for a second what the abbreviation meant, but than got it

Thanks Yorkright! Well there is the werewolf launching around, but he didn't encounter the piggies just yet

And the piggies are done, tried four different schemes, like both on the right best:

Had two fun games last Friday (maybe the last for the year) and played the portal mission twice. It's quite fun, there are six portals on the field and you throw a D6 to see what happens, when you go through the portal. Of course, no one of my friends rolled so that the monsters arrived and harassed them. Me on the other hand encountered them several times, but luckily got only a bit injured and not taken out of action.
First game was over pretty quickly with no one being able to hold off the vampire walking from the field of battle with the treasure box (you find it when you roll a 6 going through a portal). My pig may have had a chance to bog him down, but I forgot that you need a successful leadership test to charge most of the Undead and with leadership 4 that pig didnt charge anything :(
Second game was a Nailbiter. Orcs found the treasure pretty quick and near their deployment zone, but my hobbits got lucky and I was able to get several through the portal and into the ruined church where a fierce melee ensued. And I got to hand it to the little buggers, they did well, but in the end were overwhelmed by greenskins. And I forgot to send my ogre through the portal (he had landed in the furthest away from where he went in). He arrived a turn later and took revenge for his little buddies, but after two rounds I failed the rout test and he fled the battlefield. Our orc player managed in turn to successfully make several leadership 7 tests in a row and one lonely orc (his buddy blocked the way so he couldn't be charged) made it of the field with the treasure chest. And what a magnificent treasure chest it could be. You can get light armour, lots of gold and other objects. But you have to roll for them and what did my friend get... ONE SWORD He was a bit miffed after all the trouble he went through and most of his warband OOA. But he rallied quick and only had a few losses.I got more lucky and only lost the pig (which for hungry hobbits may not be a loss at all, but a gain).
And my thief nearly got the vampire melee beast down. He had missed his attacks on the hobbit and I hit him, wounded him on a six... and then we reread and because I could only wound the vampire on a six I was denied the critical hit with which I may have killed him outright. Next turn the vampire killed the thief and the brave pig that had followed him through the portal.

We didn't take many pics, but here are some impressions:

Hobbits charging towards a portal in the first game... where they didn't do much (expect killing the Necromancer with one fine bow shot and he failed his roll after the game and stayed dead ).

Orc boss charged happily through a portal, the rest of his warband didn't follow. The Undead feasted...

Brown cloth orc interrupted the ogre charge so blue cloth orc could flee with the chest and win the second game.

All in all much fun and the Hobbits did quite well for their size. With my LotR minis order this weekend I also ordered the Hobbit Shiriffs who will arrive shortly and get painted straight away so I have my warband and all options finished.

Also started to plan the rest of the year and will try to get the chaplain done for the painting comp (had planned other entries, but not feeling them).

Want to get my Retributors done, so I may start a crusade with sisters next year.

And last but not least my greatest bane of all... painting vehicles. The Impulsor is sitting around primed for a year and now I have to do something about this and selling was not an option

Game sounded fun. Always good to push the plastic around the table.

I like the concepts of painting vehicles, I like them on the table. But they are such a chore to do. I muster the enthusiasm to start them, but about halfway through it just turns into a slog. Keep them in sight, taunting you, and get paint on them a little bit at a time. Eventually the end will be in sight, and they will finish quickly. At least, that’s my plan.

Sisters are fun models, I need to finish up my lot by year’s end.

It's probably, because I seldom paint vehicles so the routine just isn't there. Add to that the different scale of what I'm used to and you get less motivation

Games were very fun, we care enough not to give a game away, but mostly want to have memorable scenes and Mordheim is perfect for this.

Tolkien already wrote, that you shouldn't come into throwing distance of a Hobbit, so it should have been clear to the necromancer, that coming into shooting distance is even worse

It's a really cool gaming system. I would love for GW to do some MTO for the old Mordheim minis. They look quite fun, but they are so hard to come by, if you weren't in the hobby back then.

gobert wrote:Great update, the Hobbits sound really fun to play with in Mordheim. They sound like they held their own quite well too! Nice plans for the rest of the year, I can’t wait to see them all done

They are Underdogs in the game, although the standard warriors and some of the heroes actually have human profiles. If everyone had just strength and toughness 2 it would have been worse

I was really glad I could post some more pictures, because it seems this was the last action this year. But I got my last four hobbit minis and can paint them up for next year.

So, no new games, but also very little hobby progress. The kids had even more attacks of the sniffles and had to stay home while the wife and me had to work. And them's good kids, but the energy to do hobby in the evening was not really there until yesterday. So no progress on most minis, but I finally tackled the Impulsor a bit more. It helped that I realized, that my big brush is more than crappy, but my make up drybrushes are perfect for basecoating. That gave me my motivation back and I think I can have this bugger done the coming weekend.

Streaky basecoat with big brush, smoother basecoat with make-up-brush (funnily enough I saw an Impuslor basecoated with make-up-brush in the painting comp, so it seemingly is not a secret, I just found out too late ).

And started to tidy up and add other colors yesterday. And kids are in kindergarten today so may use my home office lunch break to get more done. Really excited once I got over the basecoat stage.

Seeing how my pile declined somewhat in 2020 I already filled it up a bit for 2021 and am going to start real Middle-Earth minis, not just for Mordheim. I love Rohan, so the box was a no-brainer as was some of the "while it lasts" metal minis GW sold a few weeks ago. Really excited and trying to get my friends to try out Battle Companies, from skimming the rules it's Mordheim in Middle-Earth anyway.

And was in the office Wednesday, because I gave a webinar together with my boss and while she had to go into a sales call afterwards, I went into the nearby Warhammer store and rewarded myself with Jakob Bugmansson. Just have to figure out how to paint the sloshing beer in his barrel. And a Jedi Knight is also in the pic, may try to get him done for the free round in the painting comp. Seeing as I don't play Star Wars I will try some OSL on him, because I effectively don't need that mini for gaming

Solid start on the Impulsor, it will look great in your scheme.

That LOTR set may well be the best value thing that GW offer at the moment, so many figures including the cool Ringwraith and troll, so do not feel bad about adding to the pile...just the 100+ miniatures in one fell swoop!

The Dwarf is a fun little sculpt, looking forward to seeing what direction you go with him.

Thanks Yorkright! Just make sure, it is not an expensive make up brush The ones from the 1€ store probably shouldn't be put to a face anyway

Thanks ListenToMeWarriors! And it's "only" 86 models in the box Although let's face it, the 20 Warriors of the Dead can be painted up in no time at all. I'm a little apprehensive on the horses, but have a lot of brown Contrast colors that will hopefully make the process easy.
Haven't decided how I will tackle Bugmansson, but he may be on the list for 2021 anyway, because...

...still very little hobbying, hibernation mode seems to have set in But Impulsor is at nearly 80%, need to do the big missile launcher for the roof, put some contrast on the metallics I have based (headlights and such) and worst of all: the tiny screens in the open section at the back. After that will have just waeathering left. But optimistic that it will be done by Sunday evening.

Thanks DJJazzyJeff! In truth "sexy" is not the first word I'm thinking of with a big and floaty box, but I appreciate it
Yeah, they grow up too fast, seeing baby photos makes us already nostalgic (but not too much once we remember all of it ).

Thanks WarbossDakka and welcome to the plog! The model grew on me too and having worked on it I might get a second one. I believe there is a new Blood Angels (?) box where an Impulsor is included. If you need some other Primaris might be a good deal for you.

The "problem" was hitting my goal already in November But as Vejut said on his plog, it's a hobby not work so I try not to feel bad, if I paint a little less. Hope you find some more motivation too, your Exodites stuff and fluff is just great!

theCrowe wrote:Last time I played 40k a land speeder storm was the cool new thing. I don't even know what that tank is but it looks great!

That has been some time ago I remember some of the old stuff, but I only played a short period in the early 2000s. Back then I had a combined Witch and Demon Hunter force. Which explains my love for Inquisition and Sisters, only Grey Knights have lost their appeal to me. And before I start rambling, this floaty tank is an Impulsor, a Grav-Rhino if you will. Holds six Primaris and let's them move after the tank has moved, which is quite unique in the current edition.

Yorkright wrote: She’s coming along nicely! A question, do you think the rocket launcher is the way to go?
Hope everyone is feeling better soon.

Thanks Yorkright! I actually don't know, if it is a good weapon But it's not glued on, so I can switch with the 5++ shield dome (which honestly is worse than some extra shots imo). It also has some kind of satellite dish that I may use on another rhino.

Ok, the weekend was a productive one. First up is the finished tank. Not happy with the pigments on the grav... stuff. It says rust on the bottle but looks more like dirt. On the other hand it worked well in the back of the tank (although have to brush of some of the snow seeing my pics close up), Space Marines apparently don't wipe their feet
Really wanted to do more fun stuff with the monitors, but it was a pain to get in with the brush and not hit other stuff. Gonna see how I handle it with the next one.

Yesterday I tested if Contrast would work on the Contemptor Dread and yes, it does. So he became a surprisingly quick palette cleanser. Not sure what he can do or which weapon I actually gave him, need to read up on him in the codex.

And because Contrast paints have to dry I switched between the Dread and my entry for the painting comp, Luke Skywalker. Wanted to test myself with him, because he is wearing black clothes, a black belt and black boots. I mean what the Luke? His right hand should be black to because it's the cybernetic one, but I just couldn't be bothered. Not entirely happy with the sculpt, face is great, the rest a bit meh, especially hands and lightsaber. Did no OSL, because the sword is too far away so it would need to be reeeeeeeeeally subtle and I don't think it's one for a first try But was brave enough for real eyes.

So in the evening I did not paint more, but prepped the last 5 Hobbits for Mordheim. Gonna get them done this week and be done with that particular warband.

Contemptible dread looks like a real tankbuster with that loadout. Assuming that's a melta weapon. Again, I have two dreads and they're both solid metal soooo I prob shouldn't assume anything.

Those hobbit bounders though, great little minis. Enjoy them, they won't take long to paint at all either.

Like the dread, love the tank (especially the interior), but it's the SW that makes my heart sing (or possibly vvwing!) Is that the Legion Luke? Eyes look great, but I would say just go for it with the OSL - realism isn't necessarily a good thing lol.

Tank looks fab my man! The interior is great and the dirt on the floor looks realistic. Dreads load out of multimelta makes it a great tank buster, not sure what you did with the powerclaw hand but a melta or flamer are both good options and he looks great too.

Those hobbits are some small figs, looking forward to how they turn out. Skywalker turned out good too, a little osl might be the way to go, since the model is mostly black it should be easy to fix if you dont like it.

They're some tiny little hobbitseses!

It's always neat seeing tank interiors painted up.

I had no idea the impulsor was a convertible! Or is it a spider if it has no roof at all? Looks good either way, the dirt on the back looks really good, I like the idea of marines bringing snow with them.

Mighty impressive how quickly you got the dread painted, and he looks good for it too!

Good job on Luke! Black is one of those colours that’s hard to highlight and still read as black but you’ve managed that I feel. For me though his saner is a bit dull, a bit of OSL would be cool, but if not a brighter, almost white green would be goog imho

As someone who works in the compliance team of an insurance company I have to say that Happy Recompliance Day banner is a hoot.

As Obi Wan once said, Skywalker looks good, from a certain point of view. Har har, jokes, he looks great. And I think that old Ben might has been talking about someone else anyway.

But I agree that green on the light saber could benefit from a harsh highlight.

Productivity burst! The tank and Dread look good. Luke is rad. Just figure this is from before he gets shot in hand and has to cover up the gubbins. I will echo the suggestion to punch up the saber.

Nice to see you had a productive couple days. Looks like the Dread came together real fast!

Than have fun with the box and the Impulsor!

If 90% can be painted with Contrast paints, minis come together real fast

I'm not sure, if it is some kind of Melta weapon, but it looked like it could use some heat stress, so I went with it

Yeah, Hobbits and Contrast are a match made in heaven. Once I get the little buggers primed it shouldn't take too long, to get them ready for the table.

Thanks Graven! Yeah, it is Legion Luke, the Operative expansion (whatever that means). I'm not sure what I did with the power fist either, I believe there is a bolter thingy in there, but I play only with two friends 40k (the third of our round only plays Mordheim atm) and we are not that big on WYSIWYG. I try to do it, but with stuff like this it doesn't matter to us.

Thanks Yorkright! Hobbits are real small, it's fun to put them next to other stuff. The plastic fellowship ones are even smaller than there metal brethren, even if only by a small margin.

Can't take credit for the banner, it's a design by the Warhammer Community team they did for 4th of July last year or before that.

With everyone (or at least most ) suggesting I try the OSL and a bright highlight on the lightsaber, here it is:

Not 100% happy and not sure, if the light would fall that way, but it makes the mini look more interesting, so thanks for suggesting I try it!

I really like it! I would suggest two things:
1) a white "core" to the lightsaber
2) a paler, lime green edge colour as well eg Vallejo Livery Green

I think the crow and graven are right, darker surroundings and a brighter highlight and you’ll have a pretty good stab at OSL

Hey mate, OSL looking good! I can imagine lightsabers are a tricky beast as there's no real way that I can think of to emulate the core-of-white-surrounded-by-colour effect from the films. I do think that a lime green would look good on the saber if not the glow itself.

The Crimson Fists dread and Impulsor are also aces! The contrast blue comes up really nicely. Great work - thanks for sharing

Thanks tzurk! And the Space Marines are actually my own order, the Emperor's Fangs. A loyal Alpha Legion Successor... or so they say

Ok, this is as good as Luke will ever get (corrected the OSL on the hands and gave him the black right hand too). Mixed a brighter green and used some Hexwraith flame and tried a white core. Straight, fine lines are not my forte. But would call him done now, base is ready to and will take some glamour shots before the year ends for the challenge. Maybe I will get Vader, now that I think about it, half a month still left

Thanks aku-chan!

Finally christmas vacation has arrived and with it a small update, didn't get to posting the last few days. Looking at my numbers for 2020 I realized that I could reach 200 painted infantry sized minis (vehicles, dreads and terrain is counted separately), if only I could find some easy minis. Enter the warriors of the dead from the LotR set. They were so easy to paint up, it seems like cheating Here are the first 10 of 20:

I also managed to get the last Hobbits for Mordheim (sounds like a campaign slogan) painted up and have now all options finished and am eagerly awaiting to game with my friends (hopefully not to far off in 2021). The horse was good practice for my Rohan minis, it's just one coat of Goregrunta-Fur without any additions.

Number 199 for this year is the first Marvel Crisis Protocol mini, Iron Man. Not happy with his sculpt, the details I saw on the painting guide were much stronger than on my fig. Didn't have the feeling I made a priming mistake. Have to see, how the other minis will paint up. Nothing fancy on him, but Contrast made painting the metallic red real easy.

And last, but not least, some terrain. The console (terminal?) was standing around for nearly a year, primed and ready for more paint. So I finally got around to it when my wife was on a skype call with friends on Sunday. Quite happy with it, althoug the print for the screen needed to be smaller than I thought and is probably not recognizable at all. It is actually the security cam footage you see when you play Duke Nukem 3D. May try that again on a bigger screen sometime.

I'm also in the process of "repainting" some azyrite ruins into terrain that is more suitable for Middle-Earth. Left is the original and right after a new drybrush. Looks more Gondorian now.

Thanks Fifty! And somewhere in Hyperspace the first post still floats around And actually you are right about the drybrushing. Those ghosts are just Grey Seer spray, Coelia Greenshade wash and Celestra Grey drybrush. The only conventially painted part ist the base rim

Thanks Sherrypie! There should be some monitors on the terrain I have still in box so I keep that in mind.

Hope you are all having a great Christmas despite the current circumstances!

We have a very reduced Christmas days program, which gave me the chance for a quick paintjob on the dark lord of the Sith himself: Darth Vader (thanks again to youwashock [and I belive gobert too] for suggesting I should paint him up). He is #200 of the infantry sized minis this year (150 was the count last year).
Again too much black for my taste and I wish I could have gotten the helmet a bit smoother, but overall very happy especially the light red in his eyes.
Now to get some more pics of him and Luke for the painting comp, just need to find some fitting terrain.

Thanks JoshInJapan! Didn't you do some OSL with your ghosts some weeks back with the base? I thought that was very nice. I just drybrushed some red on Vader where the light might fall. Not brave enough yet to try it on minis I actually game with

I'm closing the painting year a few days early this year, but with the second 10 ghosts from the LotR box done it was a good time to finish. 210 infantry sized minis, two tanks, one dread, lots of terrain and with a lot more variety than last year. I'm very happy and just gonna throw some pics at you. Not included are the three ogres I painted beginning of the year (sold them with the rest of the buggers) and the three Hellboy monsters I painted up for Mordheim, they reside at my friend's house so they're always handy for our campaign.
Funnily enough I have neglected most of my painting goals I set out at the beginning of the year (finishing my Kharadron Overlords, my Stormcast and starting my Adeptucs Mechanicus), but got stuff done. I'm especially happy about the Hobbit warband for Mordheim that started spontaneously and is now completely finished with all options available.
