Awesome work you kids must be well and truly chuffed the colour of the bolter looks totally Ultra cool see what I did there
The Elysian is a bit bright for my personal taste but kinda works at the same time and rocks the detail is pretty damn spot on you should give yourself a big pat on the back
You could try water downed coffee works well as a stain on wood, but try it out on something first mind.
washes and inks are remarkably similar, IMHO...i have been experimenting with inks as washes on a few of my orks, snd it's working okay. i would definitely thin the ink before "washing" the guns, because you can always add more washes, but it is a pain in the butt to take just "some" of a wash off...
Ultramarine blue, yep. What ordinary people will think of when you say ultramarine anyway. Lol.
Just use an ordinary wood stain on the guns. Test it first, of course. Think of it as 'dipping' the guns. Also, maybe make some bright orange barrel inserts, just to be safe.
Have fun at Carnival. Although, I though the biggest celebrations were in Southern Germany.
Fantastic work. Both look amazing. Very sturdy also.
For staining. Tea bags for subtle red/ brown. Coffee for stronger brown. Sprinkle some granules of coffee on wet area to give spotty rust marks. And maybe try a little boot polish on the barrel tips to make them look heated black.
Inspirational work as always Vik. Your boys will be real proud. I would be.
But are the barrels drilled out? Sorry that's always the number one question I see when people post pics of the regular bolters . If the lasgun has a drilled out barrel you need to drop a flashlight inside of it so it's just as effective as true imperial guard guns.
ach mate, two years ago I even had a larp version of sting...my wife made the base work of the costumes some two years ago too... my kids love to run around all in camouflage clothes... for now no teachers or other have had issues with that... and these clothes will get some battalion badges sewn on and they got some black barrettes to go with their uniforms... all with the same self made badge... looks like they are a special forces team from Canada... .
at theo... WB old mate! good to see you here again, indeed the barrels are all drilled out or built to look as if... but lighteffects... well, that will maybe happen to some other guns in some other years...

I´ve successfully stained clothes with tea already... yeah, good idea!... I dunno if I want to make these guns too realistic looking... currently both look as if made from lego...which is actually quite a good coincidence so the toy character is quite obviously...that might help... every little bit helps... but afterwards I might try to stain them further...(shoe polish... man...cool idea there too!)

many thanks matey!

mate, I actually have thought about taping the barrels with masking tape and then paint that tape bright orange to later on get rid of the orange...hmmm....

you´re totally right about thinning and testing, and I especially bought these inks for the mins too...saw some good works made by inks already here...and thanks mate!

I probably will later on make a laspistol too...one day...^^

lol...if I could be considered a painter...that´d be a happy day... if I might be considered a wood worker/ carpenter... I'd be flattered... but I am by no means a mechanic enough to include working mechanisms ...the farthest in modelling etc was when I included lights or a working hinge...good idea mate but I am the wrong man...^^
Great job on that guns! I am not so sure about inking/washing them, though. If you haven't polished the wood to the extreme like furniture would you will probably emphasise the grained stucture of the material in spite of the paint.
My recommendadion: use classic shading/highlighting technique by hand. The old carpenters did this to the wooden figurines on the old sailing ships even on completely gilted decorations. Next step, take acrylic paint "boltgun metal" and give those weapons some metallic accents around the muzzle, the rivets etc, don'T forget to shade and highlight them again. At last, take an old sock or another piece of fabric, crumple it together and dab on some mahogany "Lasur" into the recessed areas (sorry, folks, to avoid misunderstandings I will use the german term, I don'T even know what it is in english, the type of wood paint that is transparent) for a finishing shade.
Checked english wikipedia for glaze and lacquer, glaze seems to be more or less what I meant, thanks man! - It's really tricky with translations of such things, for definitions often are not the same in different languages. - Q.E.D.: Obviously you can use lacquer to glaze something, and using thick glaze is a kind of laquering... ah, well... I must rest my head now.
Not sure if back yet. Been under the weather the past few days and decided to do a few posts. No progress on my page and I'll probably lock it and maybe start a new one when/if I return.
Glad there's been no problem with your kids teachers and the clothes. Always a shame when someone stiffels another's creativity.
My youngest daughter wore a Tiger (from whiney the poo) outfit every day it was clean. One teacher thought it was a distraction and mentioned it to me. I told her "be more entertaining to your students instead of boring them and you might have their attention!" not one of my better moments and my wife (a teacher) let me have it later .

Don't get me wrong, she was in total agreement with me. But teachers union and all required it
We miss him terribly, but I believe he is up to his eyes in school stuff, final papers etc. With family as well something has to give, unfortunately it is us, but we know he will return and we wait with baited breath upon the joyous day.
oh my... i think it is really time too give you all a "behind the scenes " now...
well... i think i´ve menetioned it sometime ago.. i am trying to become a nursery nurse... well... that starting point was nearly three years ago... and as all good things come to an end... this one does too... which means... final paper... exams and lots of stuff i could do without...but can´t... (only the papers were meant... not you guys!)
well... i am working on my final paper atm and this is quite an ordeal i am having my difficulties with... long consistent and structured texts from my own quill...well, thats not really me...i am more of a personal guy... speaking my mind freely and only talking about stuff that really takes my fancy... but now i have to wade through books that don´t interest me... having to quote peeps stupid thoughts they got printed in boring books...well...and summing all that up too... i recently said to my teacher...i would rather gnaw off my own leg than write that paper....&)&%&%))%(....well...the end justifies the means and all that, eh?....... well in the spirit of torment so far i have withdrawn from the recent LoER competition... my entry didn´t get finished due to the above mentoned stuff...
also...we have the easter holiday... that is of course as shaso pointed out a family heavy time...on top of everything...
but i hope soon i can show you again some pics... and get to be the regular resident at dakka again that we all love to see...(inlcuding me)
Hope the final paper goes well Vik - and if you do end up gnawing your own leg off, make sure you send us some pictures of the hand-crafted prosthetic you'll no doubt build out of household junk
We'll just sit here polishing rivets till you return
Good luck on the final exams and paper! It can be daunting, yet when done and the grade is a good one, you will will feel the pride of accomplishing the task.
hello my fellow followers?...anybody still out there?
here is hoping...
well... the time for tests/exams is almost over... i have passed the written exams...now waiting for the grades...and whether i have to do an oral exam still...
waiting is not really a good thing to do for those that have a mind that can go easily astray... thus you need to keep focused... on what... well... there have been many projects of mine i still haven´t shown you... i will do so in the fullness of time tho...
but for now i want to let you all in into my new big thing... it is a big thing as i need a big distraction from stress and so on...
thus... you know the saying go big or go home... well being still at home... this only leaves me for one option ... namely going bg... and can you go any bigger than...wait for it...a leviathan?
probably not...(werrrlll...of course there are a lot of bigger things in the 40k universe bigger than that... but aat least it is among the bigger kinds of tread vehicles...and ...i wanted to do one for quite some time...)
it will be totally scratch built with additions of bitz here an there... but since i don´t own the stuff usually used in that endeavour... i will probably have a wide range of different approaches to this built... so prepare yourself for a rocky and surprising trip...
and to wet everyones appetite...here are the starting pics...:
by the way... i still work on my league of extraordinary riveteers terrain competition entry...soon i will reveal the hopefully finished pics...
I've just been reading a Ciaphas Cain novel "The Greater Good", and It just featured an Adeptus Mechanicus re-purposed Leviathan, rolling over some desert sand dunes.
It all sounded quite impressive, so It'll be interesting to see what you make of this .
*wide grin*
i am happy to see you all here again!
thanks for the confidence!
i soon have to do a major pic upload of so much i wasn´t able to pour on you lot^^ ...wait and see^^
i currently have no real plans how to build it... i kind of dream about three steerable tanktrack systems that could be even used as separate tank... and would make storage also more easily... i think magnets will help me to achieve this...
the upper hull then could be an airship docking facility... theo...you might be quite close...^^
at adam... IF i play my card good enough...then it could work as a modular tracksystem thingy that could afterwards even make three stormlord or rather fellblade class tanks... (read as mad laughter...)
and welcome to the madness buttery commissar! by the way...love your avatar name!!!
16 cm long... and i am now designing the skirts, which range at 17cm... the width is 5cm... so at least the two tracks side by side will be 10 cm and if i use two tracks after another length wise then is it around 30cm... so three would be more than 45- 50 cm long...
I love the idea of the leviathan. The only thing that ever bothered me about them and Titans in Warhammer is "how do they get so much mass off the planet and to the next warzone?"
Theophony wrote: I love the idea of the leviathan. The only thing that ever bothered me about them and Titans in Warhammer is "how do they get so much mass off the planet and to the next warzone?"
Yeah, I'm with you on that point, Theophany. But then again, "why are they still using blackpowder weapons in the 41st millennium?" Some details I just have to let go of.
hey rogue wolves! good to see you here... will be later uploading more pics... currently i´ve worked on the skirts of the tracksystems...
and hey meatshield... so exited that a double post happened
at stormwall... well... these vehicles are meant for epic scale... but they´re seeping into 40k... also... i don´t play... it is just something i love doing and the 40k universe provides me with a plethora of inspirations^^
concerning the size... does anyone here have actual measurements of a leviathan? how wide would it be? how long and how tall?
also, foor that matter how long and wide is a baneblade...or a felblade?
I would say though that as is your track layout is about right. This thing was supposed to transport many, many men, as well as having the most rediculous cannon ever.
I have templates for a baneblade somewhere I will try and send you, to give an idea of how big that is. Sure someone here must have one though.
I would have said that the Leviathan should be way bigger. than a mere Baneblade. But you have to take in to account GW scaling. Epic scale Leman Russ was huge compared to 40k equivelant. So it should probably by GW standards only be about 6" long and carry 50 men!
oh yeah, i know that build, mordians leviathan is a reference for all leviathan makers...i suppose... looking at thhe epic scale tanks for comparrision it looks as if the baneblade is almost as big as the leviathan... my idea was to have the three track systems after another to a total length of around 50 cm...and more depending on currently not foreseeable issues... remember in project planning always the worst case rule... my main issue is the width from left to right side... my ridiculous clever plan is to have a flexile tank chassis that can be made into a baneblade later on by simply switching from the leviathan corpus and adding the top of a fghting tank like stormblade/baneblade... for now it sounds epic...no pun intended^^... but i need too see my clumsy measuring can cope with the ideas^^
Leviathans are like the homage to the "Ratte" that never saw anything past the blue-print drawings of the concept. A massive landship of over 1,000 tons, powered by ship engines with 11inch cannons as the main guns.
good call jake, you´re not late...just abut right i´d say for the next update^^
see...skirts and tracks in the making...:
under production...making six of everything is no small feat... already i lost count on how many rivets i had too apply...
and the tracks got formed.... currently without any real profile... but as there wont be that much exposed of them in any way i think about slipping the major details...just hinted angles...
with added skirt......for now the skirts only sport a riveted band...but i will add plating as well...
i am working atm n the five other tracks...and i am heavy wiith thoughts about how to build the chassis... and then how to build the whole upper structure... and how much interior detail i can and want to do...
for details ...i got me these lego windows here:
Spoiler:
think this will work?
an inner structure, balconies for troops...a vehicle pool...landing ramp...etc... all that would look cool...but needs careful planning beforehand...any helpful ideas would be greatly apreciated...
cheers and hopfully you´ll like that project...vik
well...dear ladies and gentlemen, and those still interested of the build of a huge vehicle...if there ever was one^^
as i said i wanted to keep it modular, so that if the tank is not prancing around as a leviathan, then the chassis is usable as a baneblade or something as close as that...
to get it modular... this is the means to the end..:
scaleshot...with poor and feeling belittled rhino...
an this is with tank built in process...
and with additional turret...
underside of the skirts...
and this is how the leviathan setup will be looking... big was sooo eighties... fething huge is the new scale...
also... apropos of nothing... this cake for me marks the new dawn... kids everywhere... prepare to get nursed by me...
Spoiler:
or to put it in another way...i am through every exam and will not have to do any oral exam to boot....yeah!!!
Hey congrats old chap you now will be known as nursey, great work on the tracks although I thought you were building a battalion with that many on th go
thanks mates for all the congratz... now is the final hours to a most spectactular awaited moment...the judgement is upon us... for the league of extra ordinary gentlemen is holdiing their ongoing terrain competition...this time the theme is make the extraordinary from the ordinary...

and i hpe you all will in the end be able to vote for the best entry...
this is mine...finished...and i already PM´ed the good Dr. H to judge later on on my work...now the waiting begins...
Spoiler:
first the bitz used...
then some making off pics...
all the bitz ...the "container packaging of the muffin papers and the confetti revolver bits are totally untouched except for glue...
and now onwards to the finished pics...
without the turrets
turrets cose up
turrets without base
rusty and oily points...
entrence
scaleshots
the rockets were made from wooden dowels...and used upquite a bit of musclegrease......i got them so pointy due to a pencil shaper...that took some minutes^^...
at valhala.... needed to look them up and now iit can´t be unseen...
thanks mates... well i have a tough competition to tackle... and up to now it seems my entry is not that high ranking in the peoples choice award voting thread...
by the way... you COULD vote here... http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/653409.page
but the world is turning nevertheless... and this is something on the subject of a certain leviathan build i want to show you...
so i started to build the main body.... as i run out on plastic card... already ordered, but germany is suffering from a postal service strike...so i think my stuff is hanging in the warp....:facepam:
well... you gtta do what you gotta do...
so i started with the main body, and for that i used plywood...need to get me more stock of that too... but essential the bdy is shaping up...
as you can see in the succession of pics below... built basically a box... then as i saw how difficult this might get with handling and painting i made rectangular holes on either side...tracked dollhouse
plan is that i add a floor for footloggers and so on...
and with tracks to give an impression of size...remember it will have three tracks each side... so what you see here is only the half of everything...^^
strengthening the floor...
and the floor for now... additional texture will happen too...
then the matter of the holes appeared...
plywood is rather easily cut with a carpet knife... thus i have very clean cuts and this allows for the walls later on to be taken out and back in at my leisure....
well... after i have gotten my some suplies...more of that^^
Lots of opportunity for interior work.... walkways.... ramps gun positions..... the brain boggles at all of the details..... but you will make this awesome I am sure of it!
hey klaus!
i feel so ashamed... i owe you and the fellows here a big carepackage picture show... what with one thing and all the other stuff that happened the last...well half year so much hasn´t been reported here...
i didn´t knew about that build???... but basically my ideas traverse into that direction...depends all on how the build develops and how much detail i will be able to squeeze in... but yeah... if i can manage it there will be everything that makes it a convincing supertank... with bridge and supplies and everything i can come up with...
peeps, i recently got TWO giant care packages...
Klaus, not Santa said recently that he would like to see his stuff that he feels not currently up to to finish as they would rightfully need to be... so already some peeps showed their presents from santa
well... i wasn´t informed at all about any incoming packagings... but then one day the doorbell rang and the postman had these two giant boxes full of the most delicate stuff for me...man... at first i was shocked...i might accidently have ordered something big va ebay
Spoiler:
but then once opened this content revealed itself...
spoilered for suspense and for not exploding the unshielded eye with too much awesomeness^^
tho when i can tackle these and actually finish them as intended by Klaus is still in the future...
also... the boreas walker shown above is THE model that originally brought me to the hobby and i am so very proud of owning this piece of hobby history now!!!!!!
eternally thankful to you Klaus for that!!!
also... i recently made two 40k guns for my two sons...
these where their costumes, made by Mrs. von Domm....all handmade...
Spoiler:
and closeup of the guns...
later on i can show you some secret shelf of shame projects too...
Klaus certainly has inspired a lot of people here & to have the model that really kick-started you into all of this is a real treat!!
Congrats again buddy!
PS... thanks for the spoilers..... I very nearly had to scoop my brains back into my head when it nearly exploded and couldn't comprehend all of the awesomeness on show!
by the way... i already learned a TON of tricks klaus uses for his ork walkers... which under other circumstances i never would have had come up with... that in itself was an education...to have such pieces in your hand is a whole lot different than just looking at them pretty pictures

indeed mate... i have stop my mind racing and remember always to make one step at a time...
With the size you are going for with the leviathan I think you should dual purpose the body of it as an entertainment center. Seriously huge . You could mount a t.v. set to it and have the blue ray player and disc storage inside of it, add some speakers and play tank noises out of it when playing games .
by the way... i already learned a TON of tricks klaus uses for his ork walkers... which under other circumstances i never would have had come up with... that in itself was an education...to have such pieces in your hand is a whole lot different than just looking at them pretty pictures
theo... well... i actually had thought about adding lights.... but a sudden building frenzy saw to it that i think this wont be possible... besides...adding tech to the piece would have used up a lot of space on the inside...
and klaus...really... the spacers for the extra armor was a cool idea...
info...: added a middle floor...and i am now working on the second part of the boxy tankiness^^
On a slightly diferent note... I have always wanted to see one of these done as a kind of mobile repair bay / workshop ... the internal space taken up with cranes and racks of spare parts etc.... might be a nice idea..... BUT..... not as nice as arming it to the teeth and filling it with troops and tanks!

that actually is a nice idea....hmmm... the space in the big "chamber" actually is not that big to hold more than one tank...was first thinking about a walker squad to be transported by this...but your idea makes perfect sense...
well...speaking of...progress... or should i say breakthrough...many^^
explanation:
built the front now...it is still a separate section...
added front "holes" that will be ramps to let the troops out in a hurry...
and also i made holes to have a walk through from each section...

Excellent work Herr Domm. Better get the kids involved with punching out rivets now cause your going to need just shy of a bajillion of them.
as said above, later on i will skin it all with plasticcard... then i can add the rhinestone rivets i currently use...i have today got a letter containing 4000 rivetes... and indeed it is fething huge and mmy wife eyeballed me already several times...sighing and telling me that last time i said i wanted to build smaller stuff....ach....^^
Love it, Viktor. Always loved this idea. Giant land ship of a tank. Always thought if I ever built one it would be modeled after the jawas sandcrawler.
Hey Vik, I think you can at least squeeze in another floor on the top - leave the lower one as high for the vehicles and repair bay, but pull in another personell floor - otherwiese this baby would be a huge waste of space
I go AWOL (again) for about half a year, and return to see THIS! you never sieze to amaze me vik.. this is going to be epic to say the least! *runs of to get some popcorn*
Klaus, not Santa wrote:Hey Vik, I think you can at least squeeze in another floor on the top - leave the lower one as high for the vehicles and repair bay, but pull in another personell floor - otherwiese this baby would be a huge waste of space
well, you do have a point, but the thing is...it´s already fixed as is... only one floor inbetween, more wasn´t possible...and i didn´t want everything too cramped...and well....my builds always develop a sort of living of their own^^
inmygravenimage wrote:Actually, doesn't it get a set of battlements along the top? Also, once you've done this, i demand a colossus and a land train!
a land train....yeah... i should go for something smaller in my next project......mwahahahahahahhhhhh...*coughscoughscoughs.....*
mxwllmdr wrote:Love it, Viktor. Always loved this idea. Giant land ship of a tank. Always thought if I ever built one it would be modeled after the jawas sandcrawler.
if i would switch the lower with the upper part then i would be halfway there already
so.... long time no progress?....nawww.... but currently heat and other stuff that is too icky for working on the leviathan made me post stuff not in a hurry.... but then i can show you stuff in a kind of landslide post^^
so.... my recent works consisted mainly on establishing the flooring of each sections and the front ramps...
them pics ^^
this was my first try at the car par deck...
but it was too low tech looking so i forsake this idea....
instead i opted for classic material...conflakes packaging cardboard...and a special cut out cardboard sheat i salvaged from a board game we go some years ago... so basically just yur average junk the upper floor was made with holepunch and thick cardboard from an old calendar back...
for the front upper room i have planned to do an old fashioned war room...with a tiled floor that shows a strategical map....a friend from dakka provided me recently with some epic minis and these will be used on said map...:
the floor tiles were made from thin cork...
also... the lower floor will be the room for assembling the ground troops before disambarkment...made from granny grating...
and the front room also features two ramp/hatches...
also.... my shipments of plasticcard finally arrived and also....
riches in rivets...:
these bags equal in total the amount of 4000 rivets for aplication soonish^^
Vik here I thought 4000 rhinestone rivets was the bomb, you outdo it by it being 4000 black rhinestone rivets
I like the dual front doors for deployment of the troops. Hopefully they have one of those airplane slide chutes to go down instead of hopping down the height they are at. Plus the chutes should get them safely to the side of the tracks instead of right in front of the treads . Never a good day to be a guardsman.
MMOOAARRR RIVETS!!!!! Honestly.... I fully expect this beast to use all 4000!!!! Rivet panels around the whole of the outside please!!
That War rOom idea is awesome..... I do like the 40k idea of the mobile castle..... so the flagstone flooring and raised unit is awesome..... genius to use the epic models! Really looking sharp!
honestly... i ordered them not to have stock...i fully expect to rivet myself into oblivion too....
the really hard part will be the interior to paint... as i wasn´t that kind to myself... otherwise i would have made the walls all detachable so that i woould have been able t paint every wall after the other....but nooooo... i had to built everything first^^
Why not use thin card and decorate it first, then stick it inside on the interior. You wont loose much room. Or magnetize the hull and have sheets of real steel for the interior??! sorry got a bit silly. But seriously, decorate a wall section at a time first then stick them inside.
That sounds like a pretty good idea! As the good man says.... you wouldn't actually lose too much room.....
My mind has also wandered into the realm of the fantastical...... I think you should actually wallpaper the walls of the command room..... like a regal war room of an old European castle.... flag stone floors... wall paper... penants of previous campaigns hanging there..... could be glorious!!!
At this early stage you could consider making (via a saw) the top removable for ease of access. You could then use pegs and holes to reattach, and leave removable, the roof/top. Just an option, before you add details.
Also, assuming you are going to add a cannon, make sure to leave enough room inside for the mechanism and the ammo.

indeed, the wallsection after wallsection is the way too go... i am currently thinking about a fitting style tho... ideas would be welcome! something probably posh looking... hmm...
as for the magnetizing... i am currently surfing through the webways for a suitable supply of magnets... still no idea where to buy and what exactly in size... my best find is via ebay atm...

the actual wallpaper could be a good idea... to scale is the main issue here... a cool fleur de lis would be cool...but these would be too big on that scale...
and muriels or wall mounted carpets...hmmm^^

i dunno why i haven´t thought about cutting the roof open??? i think this will be the deed of the day... i have finished the floors and i think this will literally open up new spaces to progress the work! thanks mate!
all currently cut outs on the walls have been saved and will later on be built to have a lid like function... as i said earlier on, the whole structure will be clad in plastic card and i will simply make bigger overlapping surfaces attached to the cut outs so that i have a rim outside of the wall sections...in my mind it will work... if i add magnets...success will be guaranteed^^
as for the main weapon... i think this will be completely on the roof...as i also thought just glueing something at the prow would be silly...not even orks would be so lame^^...
Ok I honestly believe you have lost your mind now how big is this where are you going to store it or is it doubling as one of the kids beds
No seriously interesting take on the interior decor as well, a war office on wheels well tracks at least.
Glad to see your still using all the old black magic card, cork and wood making use of everything to hand.
If you do go the wallpaper route I found online some cheap embossed paper a while ago with varying patterns that could work, might be worth a google search
I have to back the fireplace but maybe go wood burner and add the old school SP chimney to the outside, don't forget the animal rug and instead of hung animal heads you could have SM heads plaques on the walls as trophies actually I like that idea myself Maybe do old school wood paneling for the walls easily done with your skill in card work
Vik, the place where I got my magnets a long time ago was http://www.kjmagnetics.com/products.asp?cat=168 get the n52 neomideum (spelling) as they have the strongest hold. Not sure if they ship to Germany.
As for the control room/command center, I think it needs blue carpet, and needs to be modeled after the Oval Office.
well i recently got me exactly these^^... just from a german retailer though^^... but i bought 3*2 discs of the n52 variety...
i still haven´t posted the current look i think... that needs to be fixed tonight...maybe you´ll like it... but it is not really comparable to the oral office
The stains were not particularly weird; Let's be honest and adult about that. The fact that the young "lady" in question chose to refrain from having the dress laundered-- and kept it stained as a memento, now that was a bit weird. For something related, and perhaps weirder...
Spoiler:
I knew a girl in college (indirectly knew. She was a room-mate of a friend.) who had a coffee can-- Chock Full o' Nuts brand, if you must know-- stuffed full of, erm, shall we say, "used" mementos of her nights of passion with various *gentleman* callers. I cannot to this day use coffee cans for anything, or even buy coffee in a can. <shudder>
i managed a Home Depot years ago and our telephone operator at the time was always complaining about how he never could go on break when he needed to. His office area was right inside the contractors main entrance area of the store and it reeked. When he went on vacation we told the person covering his area to clean the office out and get rid of the smell however he could. He brought a can of "coffee" to us that was in the phone room, and it was the nasty smell that was stinking up the place. When the guy came back from vacation he barged into our staff meeting cussing about someone throwing away his "piss cup". Seems he'd been whipping out his bits and peeing into the bucket instead of going on to break and using the restroom. What was really bad is his office had a full view door that every contractor could see through as they checked out . Had to terminate him.....it was awkward trying to explain to a 60+ year old how doing that was socially unacceptable .
red...what did she do that for?????...that kind of soup must be quite of the smelly sort soon....boy...
and theo...the window part is truly the worst part in all of this...he must have had a personal malfunction somewhere in that sponge that for others is called brain
at valhalla... well at least two small dogs...i could even hinder them from breeding
on other news...cleaner for instance...
got a cool care package from Camkierhi...
Spoiler:
much of these brilliant stuff will be instantly used for the interior of the leviathan of course!...the alcoves for instance or the tech panels!
manny, many thanks cam for all these goodies !
then...
adamsouza recently sparked yet another diversion on my still growing list of projects... he hhas started a thread and also is still building and making stuff for a 2.5 dungeon...
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/656761.page
that thread is for showing one own dungeon tiles...well... all this cool stuff shown there made me produce my own version... made from pinewood and cork currently...
Spoiler:
and since the current LoER terrain building competition is still running...i need to show those that still arent following that thread
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/654377.page what my entry for the theme :"trapdoor" will be...still highly WIP...but progress neverteless^^

Vik and AdamSouza are currently driving me nuts with the Dungeon Tiles. Since I and my little gang have started playing D&D 5e, I've had an itch to do something, and these guys are just making it worse. Arrgh!
Nice looking stuff. A very creepy vibe on your Trapdoor entry so far. Sometimes, less can be more effective.
Vik has mentioned how small his place is, but then developes these huge projects. I think he has an actual trapdoor into his secret workshop(which used to be the neighbors house).
The trapdoor entry is great , getting a SAW movie vibe from it.

that needs to be figured out by me too...i have a foggy idea...but i work currently one room at a time on my leviathan...so this might take a while still^^...

lots of work n the trapdoor piece...and ime is again closing in...need to work there asap...but alas...leviathan work and dungeon tiles recently came first...beside...i need to build an upper structure... my thought: ruined light wall...in the US, there are far more wooden houses around han here... need to see how this could look...optional inner walls structure too...? any idea? pics would be welcome...

it is small....but ii have infested most of the living room ....wish i could burrow there...that´d be the best option....neighbours of us did that...they just bought the adjourning flat and made a breakthrough...literally^^...well...not even is our flat small-ish^^...but our wallet too...
ANYWAY....back to business.... tomorrow i have an appointment for destiny... job interview...so aall fingers crossed are apreciated... and back to the fore...i woorked for the leviathan...yeah, who would have anticipated that? right?...yeah...so...the backstory here is that i scoured the webways to get me more sentinel pilots... there the worlds unknown gold...didn´t you knew?...now i have four seated models...shaved off their baggies on their hips and seated them...:
plan is to make these into a group workplace...with a supervisor either seated above them, or walking around them from place to place...now i need to figure out how to make scratchbuilt computer workspaces...
and...as the warroom in the prow still needs to get some love as well and since i ordered me some kneeling DF soldiers bitz.... i made this model here... it will be the grand commander of thhe leviathan...:
still early WIP but a working principle in my opinion...

At my girlfriend's old flat, one of the guys from two floors down came up to complain that water was coming down and hitting his kitchen window, meaning he could never open it. Worse, when he came outside to have a look for a cause, there was a funny smell. Oddly, there were no water pipes or any other possible source of water above his kitchen window. Only a window. My girlfriend's new flatmate was a bit odd. After moving in, she started spending basically all of her time in her room. It transpired that she was weeing in a saucepan and throwing it out of the window, because the bathroom was "too far away". Her room was next to the bathroom. This went on a bit further, and at one stage, my girlfriend's flatmates had to enter the room to see if she was in there. They found a saucepan just sat in the room full of wee. Worse, it was one of their saucepans, not hers.
Eventually she moved out, and if they had not gotten ride of her the landlord was going to chuck them all out. Very weird few weeks.
Looking at those chairs like that, I imagine there being some kind of holographic table or display system in the center, with the chairs hooked up to it,
and cables strewn about the floor.
that was the plan hk1x1...that is the next work of lil ol me... if you have helpful info for me to scratchbuild these....don´t hesitate to add it here ^^
and fifty...the humanity...pigs have at least a reason why they act that way...
Ah, kids. When will they ever learn. One uses a sealable container, like a mason jar. But "chamberpots" ? Lol. I'll stick to proper facilities. It's the civilized thing to do.
Germany has lots of wooden houses, Vik. Do you mean the balloon frame houses? Just Google balloon framing. Plenty o pix. Or timber framing, for a different style.
since we all now live in america (according to ramstein ) interview would be fine...if you want old school...then :bewerbungsgespräch would be best...depending on how much one want to cling to the old times^^
and well...i am way too untrained for anything concerning house building^^ always two sides to a coin^^
Keep practicing the house/leviathan build and you'll gain experience , I want running water in it Vik.
Like the sitting guys you need some servo skulls floating around the table as well to fetch coffee, take notes and relay important messages (3 cubes of sugar).
There should be a plethora of computer screens on eBay the internal rhino door has a large screen and keyboard I believe. Or the space marine drop pod center piece looks like a fine holographic display board and the support parts(5) look like keyboards with built in coffee cup holders.
Let me know if you need some, it would be later this week before I could mail them... Plus send me your address, it's been a while (but we league guys take care of our own wether with bits or the garden hose ).
I also have a spare drop ship should you require from Theo's excellent suggestion.
As to the table, a piece of clear perspex painted on the underside, or better still, if you have a laminator you could try painting the laminating pouch and then running it through. You'd get a clear sheet relativly stiff, that you would hardly see from the side, now just need to make a cone from the laminate and a place it to look like the projection from the projector unit you scratch built in the middle of the floor! Doddle for man of your tallents.
Now as to the LoER, well, what are you after here? Do you want to put a floor below or above? Have I taught you nothing!! Just look at my blog. Some stirrers acquired from the local coffee shop, make a timber frame. And if you want to add shuttering, use lollipop sticks or more stirrers, or probably best make "Planks" from card, scratching grain on.
bewerbungsgespräch = Application talk? Ah, but then you guys say panzerkampfwagen (armored fighting wagon/car) , instead of tank. So many syllables...
There are a lot of papercraft computer screens too. Worst case scenario, print 'em and cut em out. Lay a piece of clamshell plastic cut to fit on top. Instant screen

running water? the brits have mastered the art of tea making and not relying on running water for ages....i doubt they would build a giant tracked castle and have a giant tank of water inside.... funny thing.... for all stuff regarding warhammer, be it 40k or WHFB (i refuse to use the other term...*shakes fist* ) germany is far from the land of milk and honey...the availbale bitz of rhinos is very slim...believe me, i checked that list...
and funnily drop pod stuff...i found the keyboard stuff and just grabbed them^^... but well... i wouldn´t say no to some nice gray plastic crack^^

first.... gotta ask...is the drop ship the space marine drop pod?...stupid question...but since recently the marines got so many new flyers i have a hard time keeping track of these names second....love your idea about a touchscreen workplace....for silly reasons a star trek computer place was in my mind...but science fiction is always built around the technological know how of the current time...so flatscreen or 3D holographic touchscreens would be more appropriate for today... the cone part i still don´t get... but i am prbably a bit dense at this time of the day...after all we had 34°c ...quite a roomy temperature...
Have I taught you nothing!!

here is a piece for a true connoisseur..."Kreuzschlitzschraubenzieher..." this word teaches you A LOT about how much the german language loves to use multiple syllables... also...tank is also used for tank...the part of the car where yyou put the fuel in...so we probably had to use the term panzer...which curiously derives from the armour used by knights...
Camkierhi wrote:...or probably best make "Planks" from card, scratching grain on....
Or from sprue. There's a handy tutorial about this place for that kind of thing.
Also, I just found a quick way to do an expanse of planking, using plasticard:
Use a ruler to score on the lines between planks,
Then use the above technique to add the texture,
Then divide the lengths of the planks into shorter planks,
Cut out random planks and swap them with another of a similar length,
This gives you slight gaps and mis-fits to break up the surface.
See the flooring I've just done on Graven's tower.
Good luck with the interview.
Good job on the sitting legs too.
As for the body to use, find all the torsos you have and try them all... that's what I'd do.
Doc....that is a splendid idea....i will follow down that road soon enough!
and sprue goes without saying...but i am a wee bit of a girl when it comes down to carving ...i still need my fingers^^
and theo... pm incoming...
but ladies and gentleman... in the mean time i have been working on a small mini diorama that will have it´s centre stage for the war room of the leviathan...
here it is...the captain´s seat...
some minor tweaks are still in need, but basically this is the first step in working on the war room...
His chest does look a little too bulky compared to his legs in some of the photos (this may be down to the angle), but removing the wings etc. from the torso would help this, if you are so inclined.
Also, for reference purposes for the chair (not that you should include all the details, just if you are interested ):
Spoiler:
More importantly, how did Picard survive so long wearing a red top...?
Had not thought about that before.
Nice work on the chair, I like the way the Captain is leaning forwards, as if he's issuing an order.
As for the Kirk - Picard, Yellow - Red thing, I think the color change actually happen back when they made the first Star Trek Movie (or Star Trek the Motion picture as it was called).
Back then they went for white, cream and light blue uniforms, and it wasn't until Star Trek II the wrath of khan when they made the change to Red uniforms.
I'm guessing when they made the next generation, they decided to carry over the red officer uniform color as way of tying the old and new series together.
Giving the older star trek fans something to relate to.
Kreuzschlitzschraubenzieher = Cross Slot Screw Overcoat ?... Oh, Philips Screwdriver. Good one. We have this, well the British do. Antidisestablishmentarianism.
Do remove the skull from his chest. Too Space Mariney. The command chair works well. The dynamic pose is well done.
OOooo yes yes yes.... I like the look of this already! The edge of the seat pose gives a real feeling that he is watching a holo screen at the battle unfolding and is just waiting for the opportune moment to issue the decisive order!!
I also like the idea that the Leviathon is a serious of mini dioramas all being played out within the shell of one giant beast!
I love the scout getting out of the seat. To me it looks like he was trying out the captains chair and then the big man came into the room and he is trying to get out of the seat without drawing suspicion.
at magos... it was always planned to be a giant interlocking diorama...we´ll see if i can pull it off^^
at red... here is another one...Donaudampfschifffahrtsgesellschaftskapitän... also... not shown on the following pics... worked on kirk... i think this will look better, i´ll show you tomorrow...
but first...progress...twofold...
the leagues terrain competition...http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/654377.page
is still running and it needs progress as anyone's thread... so i have been working on my entry...
i need too figure out how to tear it up and weather it suitably...
and on the other hand... some more work for the leviathan...i give you...the controllers...
these hands...they are a tad smaller than the average IG grunt hand... but i hope they still work...i got them from a bitz dealer here and there from bolt action and perry miniatures WWII lines...
In the grim dark future there are carny workers, just leviathan controllers. They still have small hands and smell like cabbage.
I like the look of the wood plank floors. Maybe take some small gravel (larger than sand, but not pebble sized) and scatter it on the boards then lightly press down with a book or something to give it that handscraped and dented look.
GW paint pot lids for the trapdoor and the control table?? That is the most simple yet utterly genius repurposing I seen in a while. Well done that man!
Controllers look perfect. Love the screens and table idea. Chairs look perfect. Did not really notice the hands other than they look great. No silly bunched fists etc.
Wood work for the league looks fabulous. You see!
To age it:
Go outside with a candle or even a box of matches. Touch it with fire. DO NOT SET IT ALIGHT.! This will round edges. Form gaps.
What is the floor made of. Looks to be pine. But maybe balsa! Be careful with fire and balsa wood.
Get a bunch of various sized nails. Tape them together. Then hit the surface. IRL you can fill a sock with nails and hit timber to distress it. To make it look old.
Or just plain old very watery washes is how I do it most of the time. While it's wet blow some dust, I use bicarbonate os soda, into the corners.
Awesome stuff love the wood stud wall very creative and the planking looks very posh indeed, I know people that would pay good money for floors that look that good
The control panel is extremely cool especially the screens they have an almost holographic appearance to them, as for the hands did not even notice they were smaller so no issue there.

they WILL look like holographic screens...i used granny grating and filled the holes with a bit of PVA to get a "skin" inside the cells... later on this will be painted as a holographic net/grid... and thanks mate^^

i am way too much of a sissy for using fire to a model...besides i don´t own a blowtorch... even not the small ones one uses for cooking...well...maybe one future day...
the nail weathering sounds brilliant... unfortunatly i went ahead and weathered/destroyed the upper floor walls by hand/pliers/dremel...well...it is now a wreck...but good looking one if i dare say so myelf^^
(why would someone want to do that to a floor in RL? i think i have heard that peeps weather wooden tables, real sturdy ones with big chains tho...to make them look vintage...hmmm....probably that´s the idea behind it?)
oh and it is all pine wood...except that the walls are made from beech wood...the coffee stirrer quality... i´ve spray primed it and then basecoated it with cheap brown acrylic paint...aftwerwards it will be built up again to look like wood...charred wood in many places...here is hoping i can pull that ooff...

speaking of...
update time... made the second floor...the idea behind the build is it is a wrecked and scorched place... s not much left to be seen here upwards the ground floor...
well... as stated above...next step is getting the wood grain worked out again by drybrushing the heck out f everything and then painting the destruction...^^
Nice work on the wood joins for the next floor supports.
I am also trying to find a few more bits before sending a package your way. I did find another sentinel pilot for you, he can be sequestered off to a side if you want.
Great work again Vic you have really captured the RL of the flooring especially with the damaged section, that looks spot on and the broken planks on the floor below is a nice touch.
i have to announce the 16th instalment of the ongoing Leagues of extraordinary Riveteers Terrain building competition...this time it is about the humorous question: "got wood?"
Considering I have a garage full of woodworking tools-- I used to build furniture for fun and occasional profit-- I may have a bit of an advantage. But maybe not the time. We'll see.
Also, quick translation question. Hawkmoon, would that translate to Habichtmond, Sperbermond or something else? I am referring to a bird like this
... Only if it was a road-kill. But I think Kentuckians prefer possum.
A bit graphic, but around here ...
Spoiler:
Yeah, Hawk, Goshawk or Sparrowhawk would do. Someone was translating the name Hawkmoon (as in the U2 song) to Adlermond. I knew that Adler is Eagle, so I figured it would be something else. Habicht or Sperber seem to be the best fits. I think Falke refers to falcons. Falkemond sounds cooler than Habichtmond though, at least to my ears. I think that I shall name my next D&D character Falkemond.

They said "They take care of themselves!" I am very worried.

and... i see why you say watership down... but godfather... sure you don´t mean scarface?...maybe a small portion of apocalypse now even
That's odd. Hawks and Falcons are quite distinct. It's like using the same word for sheep and goats. Falkenmond is a cool name too. What are Habicht and Sperber then?
And no, I would never play a pointy-eared freak! I always preferred the actual myth of elves as nasty depraved things, rather than the Bowdlerized Tolkien-esque elves.

I think it just boils down to a tradition of bad translations.
of course there are lots of different different names for the different birds of prey (Habicht, Milan, Sperber etc.) but translators are no ornithologists so to them bird of prey=Falke
same goes for other animals:
hare = Hase
rabbit = Kaninchen
...just decades of bad translators who didn't care for the differences
