so then to show some lifesigns in tabletop means i will present my first four sandbagbarriers as advertised...they are now fully cured and the former squishy FIMO is now as hard and durable as plastic...
also i had a little go ad modeling a dead tree... maybe i use him for base decorating or i will make a terrain piece from it...we´ll see...

Add some lichen to the tree, then it'd look better. I know you're going for the "dead tree" look, but there's colours of lichen that pass as dead/scorched foliage.
how should i do that? on 28mm scale what wopuld lichen look like? never done that... and besides i dream the dream of a muddy table...lichen would be a bit off topic then?
by the way my wife said to me the tree looked a bit like a kid had its way with putty...*sobs*
make some grooves into it...
brown lichen would work, I use lichen all the time, it's great- when you have some left over, just dump it on the table- instant bush!
just rip it apart and glue on!

i have thought about herbs and tealeaves too, that sponge parts sounds interesting to say the least...a tut on that could be very helpful here...and a simple pic as a reference for the scouring pads would be nice as there are zillion different forms of that around...^^

Bog standard washing up pad. The rough scourer pulls off tehy sponge easily.
You can also buy packs of the scourer pads cheaply.
The scourer is then teased apart and with care can be made even thinner.
Trees made a while agao and suffering a bit, they need fixing and having some better foliage applied.
Will try and get aroubd to sticking some Oregano or Marjaram on and re painting
Hero quest! YAY ! I loved those peices of terrain , the bookshelf sarcauphagus , arrh happy days . The scourer is a cool idea Chibi , i have loads as well , they look like willows btw.
lol Hero Quest is ace! Needed some graveyard scenery pronto and the HQ pieces fitted the bill really well! Saves me having to start scratching some, at least for a while.
The trees would have benefitted from better scatter and technique, but they were not too bad at the time for a first attempt. Bit battered now so they may get a pruning and some new spring leaves at some point!

sorry to disapoint you but he got the catachan bolter arm... he is positioned in such way that he looks at his troops from a bit higher poit and has his weapon posed in such way as if he is jsut showing as much machismo as he could muster...of course he holds a bowie in his othe hand in a friendly non menacing way too^^

The cadian model with the shades is ALWAYS a winner, a full squad will look great. For the bald fistmaster of doom i would maybe suggest giving him a bolt pistol as the las pistol doesn't fit with the Power fist IMO.

that is a very good question... and i currently have no answer to that, probably a CCS char but it could be any other special character...i just have an inspirational hit at the back of my head and i am then in the process^^ no real concious thinking involved^^
for the paintscheme of the catachans i have thought about the needed red... of course black boots and then something to get a bit of british contrast too... like a bit of brownish pants or even white... but white doesnt work to good with catachans...
hmmm...i definatlky didn´t want to use green here... that would be to sterotypical catachan looking and wouldn´t blend in well with the rest of the victorian army...even if the aussis are downunder they should at least look like they are loosly stuck with the whole army together...
Like the Badass sergeant Quaritch and the gentleman commander, both the poses are great. The trooper with the broken arm is cool but needs a strap for his gun (i think there's an arm in the catachan sprue holding a Lasgun one handed with a strap actualy).
hmm i think then i have to make one myself as in that pose i wont get it transfered to the mini... but your probably right...i just wanted to do this onehanded shooter and then i saw the broken arm arm and thought this was a justifed excuse for this pose when i use the broken armn with the onehanded one^^...but it needs support, your fully right!
if you find an arm which bends a 90 degrees at the elbow and the forearm goes flush against the torso, sorta like the marine bolter trigger arms, glue a BP on it and elongate the barrel with a bit off a 2mm plasticard rod.

nah, it's got no clothes (AKA bandages/plasters) on now, and earlier in the week (wed/thur) the skin started to peel off the top. I cut it off with some small scissors to stop it catching on stuff and now it's okay. It's healed together now, just a line and a patch of a layer of missing skin shows it ever happened. That sounds quite bad, doesn't it? It's perfectly fine.

the pic in my avatar is the normal catachan HQ body...just a bit of `shoped texture ofer a for now unpainted mini... i try however to sculpt me an ogryn out of FIMO...i just recently rediscovered the stuff and after todays lazy and try and error sculpting with that stuff i want to give it a go for real and i think the ogryn is a good start so i can practice on a bit bigger scale...so i have never yet worked or handled an ogryn before...
i am currently working on a version commisioned by shrike of a now baptismed Marbo! witha boltpistol and camocloak...is this then the right char for such a model?
cut out the right arm wielding the sniper lasgun...glued a boltpistol there...
cut of the left arm the supporting one... cut a shouting arm/steadiing arm from the HWT and glued it back to the shoulder of the cloak arm...then cut of the boltpistol muzzle, drilled a fitting hole for an elven lance cut to size...and used a piece of Q-tip as a muzzle...and glued it all together... figured the sentinel/tank driver head would underline the übercool look just right...
so that was that...
then i mounted the berret head on the posh officer... took a pic for you dakka:
and then i got five nice lil zombie dogs in the post...
and i have them here on some different bases...next to a catachen metal lasgunner i tried with the afore mentioned only wash technique...:

So morining to all, the postman rang about half an hour earlier today and brought me my newest addtion to the ever growing fold of the victorian army...:

this is an army on its own accord...^^
as i have expierienced the plastic of warzone is rather harder than the GW stuff... so this will be a major pain to just get these minis out of their frames...
but as the frames are all alike i can built afterwards a whole mess of things with it... towers and buildings and maybe a special version of pillboxes comes to my mind...fitting for trenchers in my book^^
Oh, I used that for my crazy camo patterns, get's me done fatser than going one guy at at ime, so prime them, the add your red to the first dry guy, and do that until they are all done, then the armor colors or the dry-brush color for the fabric, and then the armor color, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10
this cycle repeats until all 10 are looking fit to fight, and then the next squad get's done the same way. It is very factory like but it does work.
today i got a really busy postman... at first i gt me a weety mug with two goliath shotgunners inside...
then i got a fully loaded and meaningful bitzbox i bought from ebay with lots of cool its and odd ends...
and then my order from hord of bitz...american bitzordersite va ebay and also now on their own ...where in the post...
i have now lots of bodies, legs and arms and weapons to make new minis...
this means:
if there are some peeps out there that want to make some suggestions of me making some fun and goodlooking minis out of catachan and cadian bitz then speak thy intentions...
but remember here is the main rule: the rule of cool totally aplies...only the cool may be chosen!

Here's a conversion challenge... I havent seen this kind of thing made by anyone...
In case my drawing fails it is two troops carrying a wounded comrade out the battle.
Obviously it would require three models and some significant conversion work with the arms and legs.
i think i grab that idea at the horns^^ and to boot it even more i expect a medic to come around before weekend too... so i could make this as some kind of small "M.A.S.H." diorama^^...consider this idea in my book^^

been working on a ninja/deadpool conversion... recently i got a fully and delicious packed bitzbox from ebay and one brutaly painted mini looked already much like deapool for me...
and then the worst thing in a modlers life happened...
MY GLUE WAS DRY AND NO NEW GLUE THERETO REPLACE...
arghhhh....having a vision of what to do and no materials to work with...very frustrating....so ´morrow i need to urgently buy me some glue...
after that the modeling/conversion mayhem may take its ugly course^^
at neil: if you and your sons might be in favor of sporting some pics as how you want certain chars to look like i am very open to suggestions...
also the gates of hell need more of soe decent suggestions... not too brutal please...
the progress so far is very steamy and a little bit punk
ha ha no glue! this is the worst, kind of torture. deadpool ninja , sounds great. I will tell the boys what you plan in the morn , they are keen draughtsmen so i expect they will enjoy the challenge. ;-)
so i still can´t provide pic updates, but i can tell you all i went heavy on the conversion job....
perkustins suggeted conversion /diorama idea is very hard on the way... three minis modeled to a very forward extent...tomorrow will be the finishing touches on that...
then i worked for the ogryn...see other thread^^
and also i did some groundwork on my deadpool...he looks now recognizable but still some work there...
and i tried myself out with a lil pressmoulding with GS...used a cabelbinder to make a pressmold to later be used as a amobelt...
ALL PICS TOMORROW, will do a photoshooting to show all process...

how's about a sniper team lying in wait, one crouching with binoculars, one lying down aiming down the sights, with foliage on the base?
i saw that in the gallery even... i don´t want to do too much snipers as i have already quite a lot metal ones lying around waiting to get painted... but the spotter is always a nice touch...

Deadpool looks a bit scary , like an evil scarecrow , bankrobber! are you sure he is not a renagade ;-) congrats on the pose as well , its pretty tough to capture movement with the catachans , good worrk matey. are you gonna do a red and black paintjob as well?
paintjob should match the black and red deadpool so yeah... and it would even fitt my army scheme^^
i think your right the head looks like scarecrow more than deadpool...seems i have to do some research for him again^^

i suggest a dog handler , Logan suggests a animal tamer...
i give you Fetch, the, well you decide...,either the tamer or the dog handler...it´s for now a rather context related mini...
and for some reason i cant really fathom i am quite attached to the catachans...somehow they ring a bell in me... quite more than the current cadians...the cadians lack in my opinion a bit of charcter... the catachans while bulky and unrealisticly musclepacked have at least that stallone and arnie feel about them...well there are some heads in the options for cadians that also give a bit of flair to them but you have to hunt like hell for them....
by the way, i used an old spacewolf head here ... expect to see soon some GS work on this harh hairdo of him^^ something wolvie like i guess.... by the way didn´t you want to do some pics with your chaps?^^
Hey the new dog handler guy looks perfect also , like the dog has just ran off the edge of the screen. Brilliant head choice too. i am envious of that cool looking head. i agree that the catachans have more expressive heads than the dour cadians.

in the nearer future i have to seatch for cheap bases as i lack a lot in this department...also i grew very hesitant now to use my GS as it is lessen in rapid movements^^

told my wife that the very miniute, cause she asked me what was so funny up there...(me sitting on a platform over our telly and couchset...) and she loled too...
so now i´ve had a bit of work done to get back to the true spirit of steam punk...the story behind is...:
my youngest son came to me and asked me to build a mini soldier for him... how could i refuse that demand?^^ no way^^
so he sat on my lap and we both looked at my fingers while i scratched away the mold lines and glued the first of the three now finished true steampunkish guardsmen...

they were so much fun to be made that this will be definatly not the last batch to be made in that fashion...
yep faer to my sind this rather ridiculous weapon is a mortar of the pistoliers set... my son saw that and he is a true man... always go for the biggest gun first^^

so yesterday it was priming time...
did some more minis too as i want to stay ahead of the gae and have something to do inbetween...if i get bored by a scheme... so i did some catachan plastics and some warzone minis too...9 of the later and i still have 40! of em still on sprue... now i am contemplating to do a force for them too...
and maybe i go the full martial german route here...what fo you think? some nasty ones...maybe with a little choasy taint too? this could be a whole new thing then...
and if so what choas gods would be fitting? more WWI setting as they mostly have pickelhauben and the overall gear looks that way...

i mounted the steamslodiers on corks and pinned them... the bases will be a bit uneven and also i think with them i want to do a next step in painting...thus preparation is more thought through...i hope this will help...
