If you're looking for examples of my LED work, please refer to this thread: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/358882.page
EDIT: The pics of the commander and the other stuff I've done seem to have disappeared. I'll be trying to locate and re-post those pictures ASAP.
Whatever you want done, I'll magnetize for you. I've done Tyrgon/Mawlocs, Carnifex's, Hive Tyrants (3rd and 4th edition), Tyranid Warriors, SM Sergeants, Predators, Rhinos, Jetbikes, Vypers, Land Speeders, Falcons/Fire Prism/Wave Serpents, Hammerheads/Devilfish, Attack Bikes, Crisis Suits, Broadsides and a Dreadknight. I have pics of examples of my work available as well. If it's a kit that I haven't done yet, have no fear. I stand by and guarantee my work 100%.
Regarding the service, I pride myself on making sure the magnetization that is done can't be seen once the model has all its pieces put on. My service would include all labor involved, the magnets themselves, and the greenstuff work (install, sanding, etc) to cover up the magnet if it's on a spot that could be exposed to someone viewing the model after it's put together. 95% of the time I go magnet-to-magnet for a stronger bond. All magnets used are rare-earth magnets. I 100% guarantee my work. If the magnet comes out for any reason, I'll pay the shipping to fix the model.
WIP pics can be provided if you'd like. If it's a single model I usually slam it out in one sitting, snap some pics to make sure you like the work, then send it on its way. Larger projects would get progress pics done anytime you'd like them. I provide home address, cell phone # and email address. You can text me anytime, and texted pics via my phone can be done instantly if I'm at home. I'm based in Southern Cali.
Lastly, things that aren't included, just so there's no false expectations. I don't fully build the model, I only pop off the pieces from the sprues that I need to do work on. If it's a kit that I already know, you can send me just the pieces that need the work done, saving $$ on shipping. Some minor assembly may happen, but it's usually little stuff (example, gluing the two halves of a predator turret together). Any pieces that are involved in an assembly process I do clean up a bit after removing from the sprue to help guarantee a good fit. Mold lines are removed if my work would make it a pain for you to remove them afterwards. I use either Tamiya plastic glue or GW plastic glue, or super glue, whichever you'd want. I don't prime, nor put any paint to them (nor would you me want to, I'm a SLOW painter ).
Please, feel free to drop me a PM. I work with each person on an individual basis to find out what they want. Sure, I've done Crisis Suits before. Maybe you want the guns in a different spot than most? No problem. We'll get it all worked out.
EDIT: For those of you that don't want to flip through all the pages of the thread, here are the Dreadknight pictures from page 4
Recent commission work below (pics posted on 5/27/12). Discussing work with the owner, we originally planned to go with a 2-peg setup for the destroyers, based on the weight. When I started doing the work and got to the third destroyer, we decided to go for the 3 peg setup that you see below. He loved it so much, he had me re-do the other two as well. I must say, the destroyers are VERY sturdy when setup like that. It's also nice that for storage, the destroyer itself pops off the pegs and can rest 'inside' the pegs, thus no extra room is really taken up by the seperate base.
Latest commission project completed (pics posted 9/20/12). The owner purchased 2 sets of the Forgeworld Valk/Vendetta conversion kits and had me magnetize everything for him. Trying a new thing with these pictures, a bit of 'labelling' to show which parts go where and just how many options this kind of work enables. I hope it makes things a bit clearer!

Shameless bump, and I'll be updating this post with pics of stuff I've done shortly. $0.50 per magnet if you provide the magnet, $0.75 if I'm using my own. Anything "crazy" or hugely custom may or may not be slightly higher, though that can easily be discussed as well. This includes the installation, fit testing, an extra pin if desired to prevent "swing" and I will greenstuff over the magnet to hide it from view whenever possible. Depending on the size of the project I can guarantee a turn-around time in less than a week, usually even quicker than that.
I'll also accept trade, as I am trying to get into Warhammer Fantasy finally. Hordes of Chaos has really caught my eye so if you have something of that nature I'm open to offers as well.
Pics coming!

By the way, do you typically request models assembled or not assembled?
3320
Post by: Lormax
Partial assembly is best, if possible. The commander above was sent to me partially assembled, which was perfect. Most space marine arms just pop right off so thats not a concern. Predators and most other tanks can be cut back apart without too much trouble. Of course, a Carnifex arm thats been glued in with plastic glue is going to take some work getting back out, and may be damaged, so it really all depends on the model itself.

Have you thought about magnetizing and assembling some test figures, like a Tau Crisis suit and selling them on ebay, ready for painting. I'd imagine you could sell one fully magnetized with a basic load out of 5-6 upgrades, and potentially sell some of the others for a small up charge. You could buy bits frames from one of the online retailers and it would be pretty easy to prep those for magnetizing.
I'd pay a reasonable mark up for a fully prepped suit that was assembled/mostly assembled (if people want to position arms and legs) and pre-set up with magnets.
3320
Post by: Lormax
I haven't done that yet, as that's guessing at what people want. Gonna drop you a PM and see what ideas we can explore.
7013
Post by: Ifurita
sure. I'd be more than happy to chat with you. A couple of things I can think of off hand are marine heros/leaders and heavy weapons, Tau battle suits, and Tyranid carnifexes. Dreadnaughts might be another possibility.
Why? 1) It seems like those are the units that everyone runs, 2) there is a significant amount of variability how everyone loads out these units, 3) there is significant room for either experimentation or tailoring for specific armies at your LGS, and 4) it's painful to buy an extra unit you might not want to keep. I'd love to play around with a couple of carnifex configurations but I'll be damned if I'm going to spend another $45 doing it. If I could get away with a lot of options for another $20, that could be very attractive.

Had Lormax magnatize the weapons on my vypers and my guardian weapon platforms recently. He did a great job...even got the polarities all lined up so they can be swapped between all 4 without repelling off.

Many units out there have different options when it comes to weapons or wargear. Using the Commander as an example above, pretty much all of the arm choices you see can be taken by a Commander. Now, would you want to have to paint up (and pay for) 5 or 6 Commanders with the different weapon options, or paint up one Commander and a bunch of seperate arms?

Brightened up all of the pics, hopefully the details can be seen on just how useful the magnetizing is, especially for Fexes and such.

Or do you want vehicles partially assembled as well?
Thanks!

Why would you even post that? It is obvious he has done work for other members with great satisfaction.
I am getting ready to do some nob bikers but I was going to cut a nail to size, drill through the body and insert the nail, and put the magnets in the arms. I figured rare earth magnets would hold onto the nail. I may just get hold of you and see how that works out.

First off, THREADOMANCY IS A BAD THING.
Don't do it.
The dang thing was 3 months old when you dredged it up from the muck.
Second... Why would you question him like that? Especially in his trade thread when you have no evidence of wrong doing. Nice way to drag his name through the mud.
Third: Know that of which you speak.
As has been said, he's done work for a bunch of people here.
I happen to have gotten to know Lormax pretty well. He's a stand up guy.

do you do super heavy vehicles?? if not got any tips for magnetizing the new shadowsword??

Post by: Sazzlefrats
I don't think Lormax is actively looking at this thread. With that being said magnetizing isn't too hard. I just got done doing 2 defilers (all side weapons rotate 360, elevate at least 45 degrees and all weapons are interchangible) and 3 hammerhead/devilfish (as in the burst cannon and hammerhead sensor swap out, both engine assemblies come on and off the vehicle, turret weapon swaps out with railgun/ion cannnon (doesn't need magnetization though, and the side hatches open and close)
What I haven't figured out yet is how to make the landing gear retract. I'm still pefecting the side doors.
If you have time and patience its as easy as pinning a model.

Hi, I am looking for a quote on 2-3rd edition Hive tyrants with the following magnitized weapon options for each.
*2 - TL Devourers (4rth so 4 total per mini)
*1 - Set of Scything Talons
*1 - Set of Lashwhip and Bone Sword (4rth)
*1 - Venom Cannon
*1 - Barbed Strangler
I don't want the weapons to droop

Hey all. Sorry for the long delay in getting back to you, I only just recently got settled back into a working computer, internet, etc etc. Also apologizing for the threadomancy, but since it's my thread anyway...?
Anyway, thanks to those that have posted about the jobs I did for them, especially Ifurita! I was wondering what you had thought about the job
jamunition: I'll be giving you my name, phone number, main email address, my home address...been on Dakka for a number of years and have met the owner of Dakka face to face a number of times. I dunno how else to say I'm not a scammer
Magickal: Thanks man
Squig_Herder: I'm available and my slate is clean. I understand it's been awhile so if you don't need the work done anymore, no problem.
Khorny: Doing the Soul Grinder isn't a problem, and yes I can pick it up for you. What you could also do is order it from some place online, say Maelstrom or Warstore, and have it just shipped directly to me. Previous customers have done that already, worked out great. As far as cost, it would be $6 to magnetize those points, not including legs. I wasn't sure if you wanted each leg to be individually magnetized or not, so I didn't quote that. If you do, add $2 a leg. I provide the magnets and the greenstuff.
Deadly_Chicken: I ask $1 a magnet. I provide the work, the magnet and the greenstuff. The greenstuff will be filed, sanded and smoothed over so you won't even know the magnet is there. Yes, I'll do Super Heavies as well. If you want to tackle it yourself shoot me a PM and I'll be happy to kick around some ideas and help you out.
Sazzlefrats: I'd love to see what you've done. Retracting landing gear I haven't done for anyone yet, but I got some ideas on how to do it. Shoot me a PM, we can brainstorm
Wyomingfox: Qiuck quote is $24. None of the weapons will droop, I test each connection before calling it "done". The Lashwhip and Bonesword will definitely need an extra pin or two to prevent the droop, no extra cost.
For all those that inquired via PM, I'm responding to EVERYONE individually. Thanks again!

Just a quick Q. or 2 here.
Would it be possible to two magnets into a converted and fully painted daemon prince? (damage not an issue to the paint, can allways go over it)
Only problems being that the wings attatch on about a 5mm size connection, meaning not alot of room.
also, since they are metal and somewhat weighty, is there any possibility of a magnet? (if not ill have to think of a way around it)
Thanks and loving your work so far.

Hey there all, back at home finally in Los Angeles. All the people that have projects with me have been replied to and given a full update on what happened, then PMed again on an individual basis as well to give personal updates on their projects. If I missed you, please PM me immediately.
To be fair to all, those involved and those thinking about using me to get something done, a quick explanation of what happened. My father was diagnosed with Parkinson's some years ago. This past year things have gotten really bad, to the point that he was moved into assisted living back in March. He had his 3rd heart attack a few months ago this year and now doctors are refusing to give him the operation he needs, fearing he may not survive the procedure. I took the leave of absence from work to help with everything out there (Vegas). I stayed with my mother out there, with no internet. In my hurry to leave I didn't think to bring the commissions with me.
For those thinking about using me to magnetize, I'm not here to steal anyones models, so please use me with confidence. With that said, I won't be taking anything else on until January, unless your project is small and simple (Something like a single dreadnought, etc). Holidays are here and I still have family obligations that'll be taking up my time through most of December.
Please continue to PM me with any requests for quotes, or to bounce some ideas off me about what you have planned or what you'd like to do.

I do the same thing on ebay (dont worry i'm not going to say username!) and rake in quite a bit, selling most things for about £5 over what I buy them for (which is games workshop rrpp value normally!).

How much time is involved in each miini? Are you using a dremel to speed up the process?
3320
Post by: Lormax
I hate to use this answer, but it really all depends on the mini and what I'm doing to it. Doing a Tau crisis suit, magnetizing for all options takes a bit of time. Weapons on a Predator turret on the other hand don't take too long. The greenstuff I let cure overnight so that I can sand it down smooth the following day. I don't know if you'd count the curing time as part of the process though
Yes, I use a dremel to speed things up. There's absolutely no way I'd do all that with a pin vise.

Will be leaving on Monday, Jan 9th, for a business trip to Minnesota, won't be able to take any commission until I return. I can still be contacted daily. Expected return date is Jan 20th, possibly as late as the 26th.
I will also be doing my best to update this thread as I arrive/have news of future trips. Smartphone enables daily contact no matter where I am sent.

Could do with one of you over in the uk! >.< I would totally be making use of your services, though alas international postage of an army isn't really viable xD costing much more then the service too I'm sure!
How do you go about magnetising your stuff, I know this probably isn't the best place to ask but I can't seem to get even magnetized feet to a base to work.

I'll copy a lot of the pictures over to a Photobucket account that I have and post the link in the first post soon. Probably done in the next couple days.
Sasa0mg, I'll PM you.

Recent commission work pics posted on page 1. I also noticed that a number of pictures are missing from the thread, I'll be trying to locate those and get them re-posted as well.

Big thumbs up for Lormax. I had him magnetize a dreadnaught and two cryx warjacks with all of the options. Extremely reasonable rates and top notch work. Thanks again.
