Right, so to get this thread going, a bit of explaining is required.
Since Necromunda was released originally I´ve been a fan of it. All the action of 40K, with the added suspense that your models actually matter to you.
That is, the characters matter. You can´t throw them heedlessly at whatever obstacle, because if they die, that´s "Game over man!" They´re all you have. Good stuff.
Anyways, seeing several others do excellent things with the Necromunda rules (I´m looking at you Migsula), I spoke with some friends, and we agreed that this winter we´d get a Necromunda campaign going.
You may have seen my Landspeeder thread in the painting and modeling forum, that´s the transport for my gang, so in fact I´ve started working on my gang already.
This thread will have wip and finished pics of my models, as well as some background fluff.
We´re still debating house rules, so finished gang lists aren´t possible at the moment, but I have found out that I want my gang to be a collection of specialists from different parts of the imperium.
It may not be the "hardest" gang ever, but I think it will be good fluff-wise, and entertaining to play.
Right, enough of my rambling on, here are some wip pics, these are undercoated, but not based yet. Also, the sniper needs work, but I´m still thinking about how exactly to make him different.
(Edit: Title changed...)

Don't change the rifle. The Voystroyans are great models, and their Snipers are fantastic. Just file off the obviously Imperial logos and whatnot and you've got a very good techno-medieval Sniper.

@Lalabox: Thanks. the mechanic is from reaper´s chronoscope line. There´s a lot of good stuff in there!
@HBMC: Hmm, that´s an option of course. I really like the vostroyans as well.
I´ve been working on bases for these guys, will try to get pics up later today.

Okay, got the bases for these three done. Now it´s off to painting for them, and inspiration for more members of the gang.
The bases will be done similarly to the base of my Landspeeder, to tie them all together. I may add details to the bases, but if so that´s for later.
Also, I´m having serious second thoughts about the heavy I´d picked out. Seeing him alongside these guys he just seems a bit too dirty and shady. These guys are the puritans of the campaign after all...

Those look great!
I like the industrial plating bases you've made- i liked the rubble base of the gunslinger, but i like the plating even better.
*What model is the gunslinger from? I don't recognize it.
I also picked up the chronoscope mechanic awhile back- it's just too cool not to have- really gives good flavor to your gang.
Don't worry about the sniper seeming too shady, I think it works- he is a sniper afterall... maybe all that time being alone, waiting, watching people die through his scope- that'd have to have an effect on the guy.
3468
Post by: Xanthos
Hey, thanks! Yeah, I actually had rubble bases for the other two as well, but they weren´t right for this group.
The Gunslinger is also from the chronoscope line, with new guns.
I´m still hunting for one or two more chronoscope models, they´re really good. And great character in many of them.
Good thoughts about the Sniper also, yeah he might very well be more of a shady type...

Looking sharp, like everything about them. whats the colour scheme?
3468
Post by: Xanthos
I´ll be trying out some quite muted colors for them, going with grays, dark greens and reds, and mostly non-contrast main colors.
Other than this, I´ll be attempting to make each model have it´s own feel, and just see where that takes me.
For the bases, I´ll be going with something similar to the one for my Landspeeder.

Post by: migsula
Finally!
Excellent start. I love the bases. I think in some of them, like the sniper, you are restricting yourself too much with the "round diameter" just let the base go wild when you need it for the model. Particularly with the sniper. Also when you add more height, pipes etc. are a nice addition to poke through under the higher level plates.
I'm just home from Stockholm and picked up a brilliant NPC model from the Warmachine range which isn't sold in Helsinki.
3468
Post by: Xanthos
Yeah, I was having doubts about the bases, but I´ll probably do a display for them eventually, and the round bases might fit better with that I thought.
The sniper actually has pipes and such on his base, I´ll post more pics to better show this off when I get some paint on him.
Looking forward to seeing that new guy of yours.

Hey, thanks for the comments people. PAinting is on a hold just now, since there´s a major project due friday, and I´m sorta focusing on that.
However, I have settled on schemes for this trio. The Sniper will be in muted greys, and dark metal armor.
The Gunslinger chick willl have a dark green bodysuit, with padding in a color yet to be decided.
And the mechanic will obviously have dusty orange coveralls, and unruly dark brown hair. (And a heart of gold, to boot!)
I´ve also put together some pallets from balsa, that I´ll be using as objective markers with the addition of gear stacked on them. Will try to get pics up friday at the latest.
@Peredyne: Yeah, the chronoscope stuff is golden. I´m still waiting on one more model from that line, as well as two others from GW.
The more =I=Munda players the better!
@Agandhjin: Yes, build a gang, and your journey to the Necro side will be complete! I´m really happy with how my Landspeeder turned out.
@Migsula: Yes, please do a website. Maybe not so much for discussion, but for hosting pics of the finished gangs it would be great!
@Col Hammer: Thanks a lot. I´ll be working on this group next weekend. No work and no projects then!

As promised, a bit of an update here.
Some painting done on the first three, and I´ve found the next two of my gang. A Death Cultist, and my heavy.
I should note, that none of the painting is even close to done, but it gives an idea of where I´m going.
I´ve been going back and forth about using the heavy or not, since he is apparently rare these days.
But then I figured, what the heck.
Also, some pics of the pallet objective markers/scenery bits.

I like the pallets. Nice atmosphere.
I'm liking the mechanic and sniper a lot... but the gunslinger just doesn't do it for me. The guns seem comically large for her. I can get over that. the head, though... It's enormous. Almost like a charicature. I'd do a head-swap, if it was me.
You've done a good job on those bases. I'm looking forward to seeing more.

Yup Gray Death I said the same thing, why oh why didnt I think of that! Very cool, its the little things that make a big differance more often than people think. Those pallets are a great Idea.
3468
Post by: Xanthos
The pallets are actually very easy to make, takes about five minutes to put each together if you have the materials.
For mine, I used:
4x4mm Balsa for the supports.
5x1,5mm Balsa for the wide boards.
1,5x1,5mm Balsa for the thin boards.
Wood glue to hold them together.
You could use superglue to put them together, but with the wood glue, you have a bit of time, to align them properly, and get them just right.
Mine are 2,5cm by 3cm, and at that size, they can take 4 barrels, which I think is about right if we compare to RL pallets.
For future pallets, I´ll probably make the thin boards 3mm, to better mimic the RL ones.

Post by: Xanthos
Hey, nice link Malika2, those were some interesting designs.
I´ve kinda got some more streamlined "spiky" designs going on here, but getting those designs from pen+paper to computer isn´t going too well...
Size wise I want something that can fit a landspeeder plus ten people, and possibly I´ll mount some guns on it too. It will be rather large, I´m guesssing about LR sized, though a bit longer and slimmer.
In better news, I finished the gunslinger chick! She´s looking alright I think, though I may go back and add more junk to her base at a later point.
I´m going bit hunting tomorrow, still need to get inspiration for my Inquisitor model.
I´ve got most of the stuff I need for my Merc, but don´t want to put him on here till he´s closer.
Also put together a test model for the pilot´on foot, but didn´t like it, so it got scratched.

@Malika: Yeah, it´ll be kinda big.

These are the house rules that we´ve come up with so far. It´s mostly changes in what gear you are allowed, and some skill boosts at the beginning of the campaign, to make each group different from the others.
Goal of the campaign:
The main goal of the campaign is to focus on a narrative Necromunda play style.
While we will use the basic Necromunda rules, we will also add to these, and change some points where necessary.
In addition to humans, some Xenos races will be available for use in the campaign. Eldar, Tau and Kroot will be available as mercenaries.
Setting:
The campaign focuses on the Antimar Subsector, where the players will do battle.
Through the campaign the gangs may need to move between hives, and fight both in deep hive territory, and in the wastes outside, as well as anything in between.
The players will each control a powerful group of individuals, specialists on a mission.
Between missions, players may strike deals, make promises of support, and trade if they wish to (and aren't hostile to eachother)
The gangs can be any of the following:
Inquisitor Warband
Rogue Trader adventurer group
Astartes scout team
Rules:
Limitations on gang composition:
Gangs will consist of no fewer than 5 members.
Gang leaders will each have +1W, to represent the inquisitors ability to resist damage.
Gang members should be named, to fit in better with the narrative theme of the campaign.
Gangs are permitted one Leader, two heavies/specialists, and must have a minimum of one juve or other redshirt.
Initial weapon load-out is unrestricted, meaning that all gangs will essentially have access to all wargear.
It is, however, recommended that players choose wargear fitting to their background.
Initially, 5 "upgrades" are available to the groups.
These are XP boosts, and may distributed in any way, but juves/redshirts may not be given upgrades.
Any skill or stat may be chosen as an upgrade, but no upgrade may be chosen more than once per gang.
9405
Post by: Mister Feral
Those rules modifications seem pretty neat to me, not too complex but allowing for a lot of conversions and fluff opportunities.
The Gunslinger is looking great, but I would second the request for some tattoos or the like.
9394
Post by: Malika2
How will you deal with Space Marines though? Yes, I know that they are scouts, but scouts also have all those funky upgrades (organs, training, etc) and also fancy wargear.
The thing I noticed with =][=munda but also the Inquisitor game was that it was mostly playing between Imperial factions themselves, so lets say Thorian Inquisitors (+ friends) killing Istvanian or Adeptus Mechanicus members. Yes the other stuff was there but in a way lesser degree. What about mutants, criminals, cultists, traitors?
3468
Post by: Xanthos
Well, for our campaign, we´ve agreed to use the upgrade system I described.
So if someone wants to build a Marine, the way we´ve agreed to do it, is to upgrade your leader.
After all, the leader only needs +1S and +1T to make him a 2nd ed marine.
Other than that we´ve been discussing the possibility of giving marines One in a million weapons, so "1IAM"Boltgun + Bolt pistol, and carapace armor.
We may be allowing power armour, but probably not for starters.
Of course all of this gear has to come out of your points allowance, so a gang including a marine will probably be smaller than one with a regular leader.
A for mutants, cultists, traitors, and all such, we´ll be using additions to the weapons lists to make things more interesting and diverse.
And of course many mutations can easily be proxied, by choosing the correct skills and upgrades for your starting gang.
The importance is, that whatever you change, don´t make "uberpwnkablammerator" weapons or combo´s, and just say "it´s real expensive"..
Go with what looks and feels right, preferably changing stats so that the weapon just has a different function, not necessarily better. (Ie: Mig´s Short Lasguns)

With more and more stuff being uploaded to the Anargo Sector Project's official site (see my sig for more on that) I've also been contemplating exploring the wargame and RPG side of the project. While most member of the project itself are too busy to do that right now I personally am very intrigued by the potential of some sort of "Anargo supplement" for =][=munda in a similar fashion as that we in the longer run try to release such stuff for Dark Heresy as well. While a game such as Necromunda (and now also =][=munda) doesn't have too specific rules for weapons (as in that a boltpistol is a boltpistol, no matter what pattern) I do hope to include some of those more detailed elements in there...because, well let's say we got some pretty detailed stuff over at our project. Just look at some of our firearms for example.
But yeah, I'll keep my eyes on these =][=munda threads here and start reading the Necromunda rules before I attempt at creating an "Anargo package" for you guys to potentially use!

Struck gold today! I went to the flgs with my brother who is visiting, and we went bits hunting.
Managed to buy/trade/scrounge lots of stuff, but the best find was a copy of "The Inquisition" book that Black Library made last year.
Loads of great fluff, and some nice imagery also, in this book.
I am finding even more inspiration, and seeing that I´ll need to try my hand at GS work once again.
Should be interesting.
Also, I´ve gotten together all the parts I need for my next two characters, the pilot (on foot), and the merc.
224
Post by: migsula
Can't wait to see what you do with the new guys Xan.
We've gone the "fluff" route, so a Marine is a god of war, restricted to latter stages/ NPC status and extremely pricey/effective. Numbers are quite crucial in Necro engine though, so that is a nice counter balance.
There will be much worse things than marines come the end time in the campaign

It´s a mix of parts. Space marine chest armour, IG legs (with GS armour), GS cloak most likely, and catachan arms.

Allrighty then my hard rocking amigos. It´s update time.
Today, a better look at my Inquisitor.
I switched the IG legs for a set of marine legs, since I felt the greaves worked better with that look.
I´ve changed the look for his chest plate, but no biggerizing for him. I want him to be power armored, but not marine size.
I´ll probably make a biggerized marine at some point for this campaign, but for now I just wanted to see if I could take a suit of power armor, and move it away from the Marine look. So what´s the verdict? What can be changed, what is good as it is now, and what totally needs to go? Gimme that input people!
Oh yeah, and also, I haven´t found a head that´s to my liking yet, and he may get a cloak or cape.

My GS skills aren´t great, but I feel like I´m improving with the practice.
Here´s a shot of the chest piece. I´ve put a copy of the EC´s belt bit from the command squad box on there.
And a close-up of the greaves. They´ve been made from a GS mould I made. It´s my first time working with it, but I think it´s interesting.

Looking very cool, the only things I would say is that the book and the dire avenger plume could do with straightening up a little (might be the pics?) but the book looks like it could do with the hand being rotated to his right a little to make it sit horizontal, at the moment it kind of looks like its falling sideways out of his hand.
Otherwise nice stuff, like the psycannon very cool!

Oh, all this was just sticky tacked together to give an iea of where I´m going with the model.

Early days for this guy yet.

Have you thought about purchasing some of the forgeworld brass etch =I= logo's? They would fit easily on the armour and greaves and make life alot easier for you in terms of adding markings.
Think I'll get some of them when I come to my "good" =I=munda gang (eventually!)

3468
Post by: Xanthos
Yup, I have indeed considered this.
As a matter of fact, I ordered a set of them together with some renegade weapons (easiest way to get auto weapons...), but the loot has not arrived yet :(
So I actually made a tiny =I= logo on his greaves, by hand. Took three tries to get even close.
Edit:
Also, I´ve got some news on the cutter project. I´ve done some measuring and scaling on my original plans, and have found out that it would be 24cm wide, 90cm long, and 20cm tall.....
Needlessly to say, this is somewhat beyond what I am able to construct at the moment, so I´ll need to do some redesigning. <Sigh>

Post by: Xanthos
Well, I´m making progress tonight!
I´ve repositioned his hand, so he´s holding the book in a more logical way.
I´ve found a left shoulder pad for him.
I´ve positioned his pistol holster, and key.
And I´ve found a head for him!
It´s from a frame of barbarian heads that I found in my bits box. I think it fits.

Post by: grey_death
I'm not sure I'm keen on the champion shoulder pad. Something more intricate would fit much more than the clean lines of that shoulder. If you can find something more in line with your greaves, you could tie the model together much more effectively.
Any reason you really want him to be holding the book? You might be able to get much more dynamic without it in the hand. maybe swinging the weapon across his chest akin to the Games day marine:
The book would look good swinging under the left arm in this case.
Ever since Migs =][=, I haven't felt the static poses of inquisitors really fit the bill!
3468
Post by: Xanthos
Yeah, at first I was thinking it would fit, but the more I look at it, I get the feeling you´re right.
The book is more of a fluff item than anything else, and yes it could easily be on his belt.
As for the pose, I might well go with a twohanded pose. I´ll do some tests with spare arms.
3468
Post by: Xanthos
Some shots of the alternate pose.
The blade is held two handed, and the book is on the belt. It´s still the same right shoulderpad, but I´ve decided to mould a new one for him.
Also, I´m almost certain tha the needs a cape or cloak or some such.
Any thoughts on the look of this as opposed to the first look?

More progress today, I´ve changed the power weapon into a two handed sword. I´ve also made a right shoulder pad, and fitted his arms together in a better way.
I have pinned the sword, the arms, and the hands. I´ve also found room for his book, and his side arm on his belt.
Any thoughts? Does he need some sort of fancy tabard, or other stuff?

I think the swooping cloak comin in on his right side (models right!) could add that movement you're looking for.
I'd also suggest making sure the cannon is facing with the inquisitor.
How are you planning to base him?
3468
Post by: Xanthos
Yeah. I´m working on improving the cannon mount at the moment... I need to find or make the right bit, that´s the main problem.
His base will be somewhat similar to the bases of the rest of the gang, metal deck plates, with rust and junk on them. I may throw in a vanquished foe, not sure yet.

Nice thought. I´ve been thinking of a way to tie the shoulderpads to the rest of his armor. The straps idea might be just the thing.
Let experimentation commence...
On a side note, I fixed the shoulder cannon mount, it looks much better now I think, and is able to change facings with the inquisitor.
Tomorrow will be cape and leather straps day!

Hey, thanks for the input. The two handed pose ended up being as much about "can I even do this?" as anything else.
I´ll most likely be keeping it, but I am toying with the idea of magnetized arms, if I can make it look good.
The first mould for the cape that I made today didn´t work, so I´ll be making a new one shortly. Hope that it goes better.

looks good, but are his arms a bit too long? something about the picture makes it seem so.
What about a power pack? I think that since he is not a marine, he should not have a large pack (and certainly not the same one), but he should have something to indicate that this is power armor and not carapace armor. Maybe something with tubes coming out of the top of the power hookup.

Nice progress.
I'm not to keen on the head - it's too similar to heads we see 90% of the time when people do the =I= from a Space Marine conversion. Something more interesting, with more personality and narrative and detail.
I would also still keep tackling the SM power armour problem and try and make it less apparent where the bits are from. Hide the belt buckle/make a new one/ reshape the foot armour etc.

Post by: Xanthos
Thanks for the thoughts Lasgunpacker, his arms are fine actually, but I can see what you mean in the pics. Weird.
Not too sure about a powerpack, but I do need to do something about his back. I was thinking of a modified cadian comm unit, antennas cut off and remodeled a bit, not sure though.
Hey Migs, long time no see. Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I know the head isn´t fantastic. It´s sort of a placeholder, Looking for better head´ness is taking more time than I had expected..
The belt buckle has actually been forgotten! I´ve got a plan to hide it, and had thrown those sketches out for some reason.
Do you think changing the foot armor would help?
Wow, this guy is giving me more trouble than I thought he would...

Nice updates.
Glad you changed the spear for the sword. Works way better.
As for the feet, he might just wear big leather boots with those armours added to the or more knight like armour.

ooh, I could try that! good concept man. Yet again into the GS forge of doom we go...
I´ve been having serious trouble with his cape though. Threw out my second attempt yesterday, since it was too blocky and weird.
I´m having patience issues I think.. I want to be able to work faster than I actually can, with the grey stuff. :S

Hey hey, update time here, but it´s a short one. Had an accident this weekend and almost broke a finger, so no painting + modeling for some days now...
However, I´ve spoken with my brother, and he´s working on some rather interesting transport stuff, which I hope he´ll upload some time soon.
I´ve spent the time reading Eisenhorn (again again again...) and getting some designs for terrain finished. Some time late this week I´ll get back on the horse and do actual modeling. Till then... It´s movies and books only. :S

Post by: Malika2
Hope the finger gets well soon! However, in the meanwhile you could get inspired by books and movies. And...perhaps contemplate with others on potential rules and other ideas for =I=munda that doesn't require modelling and/or painting!
Curious to see what your brother will come up with! Is he building an =I=munda gang as well?

Malika2: I am indeed building a =I=munda gang myself.
Right now I am in fact trying to make my transportation.
I am doing something, I believe, not many have tried before, because of the much gs'ing.
I am still in the schematic-building-faze, but I think it's going to be grrrreat.
Update with pic's is sure to come soon.

Hey all. It´s been a while. I´ve had a bad run lately, school almost managed to kill me this semester, but I pulled through and now I have a semi-holiday till early January so yay!
Anyways, this means that I´ve gotten some painting done this week, most interestingly for this blog I´ve finished my sniper, and only need to finish the base for my mechanic.
I actually meant to have pics for your guys, but I have managed to forget the cable for my camera. Thusly I will need to run out and borrow a camera + cable. Pics should be up tonight.
Important thing is, though, that I´m back on the horse, and campaign gaming will commence next weekend. Woohoo!

Post by: Xanthos
Righto, got some piccies for you to see. These were taken with a different camera than i usually use, so please excuse if some are a bit dark.
I´ve gone for dark, muted colors on the sniper, now known as Maynaard, fitting with his role in the group. He is pretty much finished, though I may do a few more washes on various bits.
The mechanic is unnamed for now, but she is also nearing completion. For her coveralls, I went with a high-visibility orange, seeing as she isn´t really a first line fighter, more likely to be drawn into the fighting if things go pear shaped. Her base is still very WIP, but other than that she is mostly done.
Thoughts?

That sniper is looking better than I thought! I wasn't that excited about him originally but the new close ups are really cool, love the helmet/mask/tube you've given him!
The mechanic needs a few more details, such as the face and maybe some metallic bits on the belt and pockets/pouches.
I missed this blog...it was quiet on the =I=munda front. :(

Post by: grey_death
A nice job on the sniper. The pics are muddling some of the detail of the full view shots, but you can make most of it out with the close ups. I really like that model overall.
As for the mechanic, grease smudges. Definitely.

Yeah, grease stains right were a person would wipe their hands. No rust on the wrench though. I kind of like it the way it is myself.

Good to see you back in painting action, I have similar hopes for myself and this weekend.
Pics aren't so good this time, but the sniper looks snipey and the base good, and definitely add oil stain etc. on the mechanic.

Maybe make her eyes open as well, I don;t know how difficult that is, but I guess it won't be easy to make her eyes look convincing.

Post by: Xanthos
Hey all, thanks a lot for the kind words.
@Malika2: I was a bit worried about the sniper myself, but now that he´s done I´m very happy with the way he turned out. As for the mechanic, some metallics might be the thing for her toolbelt, and eyes will be added, along with some more shading on the skin. (I also missed having the time to do hobby stuff, but on the other hand, 60+ page assignments need to be taken seriously...)
@Grey_Death: Thanks! As I mentioned, I´m very happy with the model myself. I´ll try and get better pics up when I get proper camera access again. At that point, I may even do some mini collages of each model, to showcase them a bit. Totally agree that the mechanic girl is way too clean. Need to dirty her up a bit.
@Orkistotle: Smudges and stains will be a´coming. As for the wrench I´ll probably leave it as is, thanks for the feedback.
@Migsula: Hey man! Good to hear that you´re hanging in there, was worried that I might be all alone in the Imunda camp now.. Yeah, I know the pics are letting me down, but I really wanted to show you guys what I´m working on at the moment.
And now for some more pictures! I´ve been doing some grey stuff work, working on the next guy for my gang. He was originally meant to be an ex-police kinda guy, arbites or enforcer or some such.
However, after fooling around with some kroot shoulder guards, I decided to make him somewhat different.
I´ve used one shoulder guard for the piece covering his throat, and extended that around his neck, so that it looks like a helmet could fit over it. I´ve given him some more armor on his legs, and shaped some chest armor for him.
He´s got armor on his arms as well, but I´ll have to show you those tomorrow or sunday possibly. With this amount of armor, I´ll count it as Carapace armor, and probalby call him a "Drop Troop" or "Void Born Security Enforcer" or some such.
I´m pretty happy with the GS work, though it is one of those areas in which I always feel like I want to do more than I can. And ooooooh, patience is hard..
Still to do on him: I´ll need to change his shoes, he´ll need steel capped boots if I´m gonna model this as a vacuum suit, and the join between his coat and trousers needs to be moulded so it looks as if he´s wearing a one piece suit.
Haven´t had this much fun with GS in alon time.

What kind of head are you going to give him? For some reason I think the idea of him having some sort of helmet ala the Arbites or perhaps a modified Chaos Warrior one might be very cool. It sort of gives this contrast between the female and male models in your gang, that you can see the faces of the girls while the guys have their faces hidden. Of course the pilot of the lander will be an exception but that doesn't really matter.
Don't worry about =I=munda being a bit more quiet, I'm trying to get some people from Warseer over here, check out the new Adeptus Mechanicus =I=munda blog over here by Anodyr!
3468
Post by: Xanthos
@Malika2: I like your idea of having the faces of the males hidden, this guy will at least have the lower half concealed. I´m looking into giving him a helmet, but I´m not sure i´ll be able to find one that suits him.
Good job on spreading the news, I´m trying to get the othe guys in my group posting, but they´re a bit shy... One of the other guys has made an awesome sniper, with scout and cadian bits. I hope I´ll be able to persuade them.
I´ve been fiddling about with the camera, and it´s a bit better now, though it´s always hard to work with gear you´re not used to. Anyways, here are a few pics of him, with arms and head (the head is just to demonstrate the collar), so you can see where I´m going with all this.
The right arm is way too thin, but I´ll do some sculpting over that, to bulk it up. I´ll also use another hand, may give him a SM hand, or simply sculpt one. His feet will be bulked up a lot too, to make him fully armored, and ready to go into the black.
Thoughts?

Loving the space suit guy - he's looking extremely good with the heavy plates and what-not, and the scout shotgun arm is perfect for his stance too. Is the thing hanging over his groin a kroot piece as well?
Also a big fan of your mechanic girl too. I need to see if I can find one of those I think...

Thanks Anodyr.
Yup, all the plates are kroot, except the small one over his belly, which is grey stuff.
I´m going out to grab a box of scous on monday, need another scout hand, possibly with a bolt pistol, for this guy.
The mechanic girl is such a great model! The chronoscope line is full of good models, I have 3 so far and there are several more that I need.
(Well, not "need" as such, more "want"...)

Update time! The Void Born (getting more used to calling him that now), is finished as far as sculpting goes. I think he came out wquite alright, I bulked up the feet, cleaned up the join between torso and legs, and redid the right arm completely. Oh, and various straps about the place.
I also gave him a backpack, and some kroot pulse charge thingies, which will count as grenades for him. The backpack is a cadian comm pack, with all the antennae cut off.
Piccies!

And even further also additional surplus mega double update: I´ve painted him tonight as well.
I went with whites for his armor, greyish brown for the suit, and green for straps and webbing. The whites started from bleached bone, working up to a final skull white highlight. Had fun with that.
He still needs some text and numbers on the armor, since his fluff will have him be a member of a naval boarding crew, sanctioned to the inquisitors command.
Oh, and he´s black.

Post by: Malika2
Hmm, for some reason I always imagined Void Borns to be very pale, but black will do too.
Cool job on the armour, perhaps you want to put some parts of metal underneath, sort of showing that the paint is kind of going off the metal or something?
Do the numbers and letters in red with white lines, similar to some of the German WWII vehicles!
3468
Post by: Xanthos
Yeah, I´ll be weathering the armor a bit, cause right now it looks way too shiny and new in that respect.
Red and white markings might do, Iwas thinking black and red actually, going for high visibility, but I´ll do some tests.
As for the skin color, I felt I sort of needed a token black guy, since we hardly EVER see any, and this guys number came up.
I may do another suited up guy, slightly different suit, and his skin will probably be very pale to contrast this dude.
Also, I may (no promises) try an enclosed helmet, with visor made from clear plastic for that guy. Just testing out stuff on these models is great fun.

Great warband so far! I have thought of using that Vostroyan sniper figure myself too, but so far I haven't needed a sniper figure. The mechanic is nice choise of a figure too.
I like the Void born a lot. Great use of all those Kroot bits. The Kroot sprue is a treasure trove of bits!
I like the heavy space suit the Void born is wearing. Very characterfull indeed. I might stea... erm, borrow... well, okay, steal this idea sometime in the future.
Keep on working on the figs and please persuade your buddies to post their figures too. More the merrier!

So what is the fluff on the group as a whole?
3468
Post by: Xanthos
Thanks a lot Hammer, glad you like ´em. The vostroyan sniper is a model that I´ve been waiting for an excuse to get, simply for the fun of painting such a cool model.
Yeah, the Kroot kit is one of the greats for conversion work.
If and when I make more space suit guys, I´ll make each slightly different, to show that these suits are likely to be old and worn, cobbled together from different patterns, and that they´re conserving the ones that are left as best they can.
Feel free to grab the idea. The more the merrier.
I still have some more models on the way, hoping that I can get to seven models by the end of this week, since we´ll be starting up the campaign on friday.
As far as getting shots of the other gangs, I´m still attempting to do so . I´ve managed to make them agree on at least full warband shots when they´re done.

Hey all, as promised some fluff. Not as much as I´d like, my day got busier than expected....
Anyways, here´s the fluff for my void born De´Norio Kh´Na, and the gunslinger, Jayna Saar.
De´Norio Kh´Na. “The Void Hammer”
Early years:
Born on a bulk cargo freighter between Scintilla and Iocanthus, De´Norio was the fourth son of a grain merchant. He was raised on board the “Wistful Golean”, and joined the Imperial Navy when he was old enough.
His drill instructors soon found that he had a special aptitude for close assaults, frequently besting students that were older than him in the close tactical simulators. After finishing seventh in his class, he completed a tour of duty as an armsman of the Navy Frigate “Unknown Saviour” and sought employment in the merchant fleets shortly thereafter.
He worked on three ships after this, before finally coming back to the Wistful Golean, and became second in command of the ships security detail for three years.
Making the cut:
During a stopover on a backwater planet, the ship was caught in a Xenos raid on the planet. The old hauler was too slow to escape orbit, and was boarded by the vicious aliens, who slew most of the crew.
The remaining security officers were able to get the survivors to one of the ships launches, and blasted off in a last attempt to escape death, or a lifetime of slavery.
It was while they were dodging the nimble raider fighters, that a miracle befell them. A strike force composed of elements from three separate Astartes chapters emerged from the warp, and the aliens broke off the pursuit in order to escape this superior force. The Astartes had been gathered to clear out xenos raiders from the subsegment, and had shadowed them through the warp to the planet.
They were led by an Inquisitor called Vorghel Doth, who decreed that the survivors would be offered the opportunity to serve him in destroying their tormentors, an offer that was accepted by only three men. De´Norio was the first to say yes.
Since that day he has served the Inquisition, first as an aide to Inquisitor Doth. And after Interrogator Sigismund was elevated to full Inquisitor status, De´Norio has been at his side, ever ready to lead the charge against any foe, Xeno or other.
Equipment:
His Void Armor is still the same battered one that he wore aboard the Golean, repaired and repainted every time it was battle damaged.
The suit is embossed “WG 02” in memory of the ship that was his life for so many years.
He carries an Ironclaw Naval Shotgun, and uses a MkIII Laspistol as his sidearm. He always carries ample supplies of smoke and frag grenades.
Jayna Saar. “Bullet Rain”
Early years:
Born and raised on Forlong Defense Station, on an immense asteroid, Jayna spent her formative years in the sub levels fighting mock battles against other station youths. These battles were not her last however, as the Subsector was soon embroiled in a conflict against the savage orks of warlord Urug Skraga.
Making the cut:
The Forlong station was put into battle ready condition, and all able fighters were drilled into reserve units, in case the orks should breach the stations defenses. Jayna showed great promise in small arms practice. After months of tense waiting, the long range scanners suddenly lit up. The orks had arrived in the system.
They wasted no time, and moved towards the planet, the defenders giving ground until the battle was raging outside the station.
The missile batteries and laser siloes fired over and over, and the Ork fleet was desintegrating.
But the orks were not done yet. While the battle in the void had beenraging, they had sent all their transportas towards the station, in the hope of capturing and turning the guns on the imperial fleet.
The kommandos went through the hangar doors and combat raged across the hangar decks for hours.
In the end, the orks broke through and rampaged through the station, killing and destroying as they went. After two days of fighting, the navy was able to reinforce the battered defenders, sending in their armsmen and clearing teams.
They found almost no survivors. Gas leaks had contaminated large parts of the station, causing delirium and in most cases death. One survivor shot five armsmen before being taken down.
Jayna had been driven over the edge by gas exposure, and in the intense and bloody fighting, had been unable to tell friend from foe. She was placed in a holding cell, awaiting execution along with several other survivors.
The situation attracted the attention of the ordo Xenos however. Sigismund and his band arrived on the scene only nine weeks after the battle was over. They conducted extensive examinations of the survivors, and found that the defenders had been wrongly sentenced to death.
Instead, they were transferred to the Inquisitors freighter, to become part of his crew for a time of no less than eight years.
Not all of the survivors took too well to this new life, but for Jayna the change was exciting. She was offered a place as a second string warrior for the inquisitor, and her skills with pistols soon had her rising into first string, and in time she became one of his favored agents, handy in a firefight, deadly in enclosed spaces.
Equipment:
Jayna uses twin Autopistols in combat, she has trained extensively and is able to wield them with deadly accuracy.
She carries a stubgun as a backup weapon, and wears a green bodyglove with padding, so she can easily dodge and roll in combat.
In close combat she is less confident, but even so, she carries a stiletto which she prefers if she gets the chance to surprise an enemy.

Update, December 16th.
Okies, today I got the markings and scratches on the Void Born, De´Norio as he´s called.
I also did some tests for pistol size weapons for my inquisitor, a hand flamer and a heavy pistol, possibly a Shot Pistol or some such. And I even got started on the second void suit. I´ll need to do something about the legs on that guy, and it´s VERY early days for him all in all, but you can get the idea. His suit is square and boxy, going to do some more GS´ing before I decide if I like it or not.
As far as the fluff, do people like it? Hate it? Or just feel that it´s alright?

love the void born concept, and the hand flamer in particular. No need to make it an inferno pistol, hand flamers already exist in the rules!

Post by: Xanthos
Thanks man, glad to hear that the concept works.
The hand flamer is my favorite too, and will probably become the sidearm for my inquisitor.
I actually don´t even have the inferno pistol rules here, it´s a short range melta iirc?
The second guy will hopefully get an enclosed helmet, but I first have to be happy with the suit itself, and I´m not there yet.
Will do more work today, then we´ll see.

Post by: Malika2
I really like the new suit and the weapons. The letters and numbers on the old suit didn't really work out that well, unless they are WIP's. You might want to use those water transfer sticker like things from some WWII models or something instead.
3468
Post by: Xanthos
Yeah, they´re wip, looking to get some black on the outsides.
At first I thought they might work just with the red, but after seeing them large scale on the computer, they just look a bit too "daubed on with blood" like, which is not the look I want here.
Thanks for the feedback, it´s good to hear what doesn´t work for you, helps me see what can be better.
Edit: I would look at transfers, but seeing as I´m in the Faroe Islands at the moment, hobby supplies are limited to say the least. There is a total of one (1!) store that even sells 40K stuff here, and when I had a look yesterday, they had no Tactical marine boxes.... But the weather is beautiful, and the air is clean, so that´s good I suppose..

I really like your space suit theme you've got going here. Damn, I'm itching to build one of my own already!
The hand flamer looks good. Again, great use of Kroot bits. I especially like that Kroot grenade as the flamer fuel container. I never thought of using that bit...
I too thought that the numbers/letters in the suit are a bit crude. Let's hope the blacklining will fix that. Too bad you can't access any waterslide transfers. They are a great help making the figures to look a bit more "professional".
3468
Post by: Xanthos
Hey, thanks. Go for it man, and be sure to post the results!
I was just looking at bits, considering making my own even, when the grenade revealed itself.
I´ve blacklined the letters, it´s a bit better but still looks rough when you get close.
Seeing as the pictures in here are at least 3 x life size, I don´t think it will pose a problem in gaming terms, but I´d like to make them better.
I´ll get pics up in a bit.

I´ve finished basing the Mech girl.
The Void Born is getting better, not sure but I may have to clean him up even further before he gets the last few washes.
And I´ve included pictures of the second void born, mocked up with arms and backpack.
I also lined up the four gangers that are now finished, and took a pic of them. Sort of a status check.

No more helmet for the second guy? That's a shame! As for the "handflamer", it looks quite big for a handflamer, but I'll buy it!
3468
Post by: Xanthos
Hey all, thanks for the comments.
@Defcon: Yeah, I´m still working on the second guy, will have to see what can be done.
@Malika2: The helmet shall return. However the head has gone missing in the pile of sprues and stuff that is my workspace...
No fear though, the clearing teams are going through the piles and have told me that they are confident in a succesful rescue.
The hand flamer is quite big, but in the Necromunda rules, a hand flamer is a one shot flamer, so I figure what the heck. Also gives me a chance to do some fancy painting on there.

Post by: lasgunpacker
Personally, I would switch the hand flamer to the right hand, and the sword to the left, but either will work. The numbers on the first guy look much better now. You may want to look at pictures of Soviet/Russian/Chinese/American space suits, and see how they are labled and marked. I have the feeling that a few hazard markings and the like would go a long way to make it seem more "real".
Also, hand flamers used to have different rules and their own template, you may want to investigate that instead of a single shot regular flamer.
3468
Post by: Xanthos
Ooh, hazard stripes and that kind of stuff! Completely forgot about those. <Hits self>
I will definately look into adding those, thanks a bunch!
As for the hand flamer deal, in the original necromunda rulebook, which I still have lying about the place, it indeed had it´s own template.
But in the newer online versions, they´ve changed it to the flamer template and made it single shot. I suspect this is in order to get fewer templates.
We have decided to go with the newest version of the online rulebook for the purpose of this campaign, thusly we end up with the one-shot flamer deal.
Nice observation though, not too many people know the rules that far back. Most of my guys here were pretty surprised when I started going on about hand flamer templates.

I think the blacklining did the trick on the numbers/letters. They look better now. And, as you said, the figures are smaller in real life so the letters/numbers do not stick out so much as they do in these pics.
Hazard stripes and other markings are a good idea too to bring more colour to the suits.
Oooo, I just love the painting on that base in the picture. Looks really nice!
Sidenote: Inspired by your spacesuits, I started working on a 3 Iron Bears with heavier breaching suits on. They are the first ones through a blown door, so they wear heavy suits to protect them. I'll post pics on my own thread when I finish them. Thank you so much for the inspiration!

Post by: Xanthos
Woohoo, I´ve done inspired summint! (In a heavy southern accent).
Looking forward to those breaching suits Hammer, will be cool to see what you do with this.
Yeah, the hazard stripes should do good things to the suits. The second one will probably get the same white for the armored bits, but get a different colored undersuit.
Thanks for the kind words mccartney.

Okay, I´ve got an interesting question.. Is there still an IP on th buildings from the old necromunda and underhive buildings?
I´ve scanned mine today, planning to experiment with making them in plasticard and painting them up nicely.
Then I got to thinking, that maybe others who didn´t have the opportunity to buy the buildings originally, might want a copy, in Jpeg format.
But I don´t want to post anything that´s against the rules. So what´s the deal? Anyone?
9394
Post by: Malika2
I think the IP sticks for all material created by GW. In other words, you can't copy GW models, not even the classic ones.
You are talking about those plastic building components from Necromunda right?
What you could do is make one in plastic card and then make copies.
What exactly do you mean with scanning?

There used to be cardboard inserts that you'd put into the plastic frame bulkheads to make walls. I think Xan's asking that if it's not protected by IP, he'd like to find some color scans of those cardboard pieces for his own use.

Post by: Xanthos
You´re half right Death by Monkeys. I am talking about the cardboard ones from the old necromunda boxed set.
However, I don´t need a copy, I already have the originals. And those cardboard originals are what I scanned today, on an A3 color scanner.
The point is, that I´ll definately be making a set in plasticard, to use with my bulkheads. However, if it can help anyone get inspired, I´d want to upload my A3 copies to Dakka.
So, according to Malika2, the answer is that it would be illegal.
Ah well, then I won´t do it.
I could of course take measurements, and tell people those, right? Or no?

Post by: Death By Monkeys
Ah, my bad - I misunderstood. I imagine you could take measurement and tell folks, although those getting them would be missing out on the critical graphics that make those cardboard walls so cool!

I'm not sure about copies of the prints, but I guess if you scan them for personal use it might be ok. I don't know how this all exactly works though...

Hey Xan - what was the base model you used for the Void Born before you started adding Kroot shoulder pads and GS? SM Scout?
3468
Post by: Xanthos
@Malika: The buildings were made by combining some plastic bulkhead type things, with these cardboard cutouts with steel graphics on.
The buildings are perfect, since they make the table very closed up, good for intense small scale conflicts, not just everyone blasting each other.
Of course if you built really closed up terrain, from time to time the problem might arise, that you actually couldn´t get at the models because they were so far inside the scenery.
@ Death by Monkeys: As for the buildings, i know, they´re frigging awesome! which is why I want to do something special with mine, and redo them all, as close to the original graphics but in 3D of course, in plasticard. Gives me an interesting spring project.
As for the Void Born, the base model was:
Legs and torso from a Cadian IG frame.
Left arm from SM Scout Biker.
Right arm from Cadian HW team.
Head from Scout biker.
Backpack from cadian IG frame.
6005
Post by: Death By Monkeys
And so I recognized the multiple use of the Kroot shoulder pads, but what was the "loincloth" armor from?
3468
Post by: Xanthos
Also from the Kroot frame. It´s a bit of armor and a grenade, one on each pair of frames.
The shoulder pads are four per pair of frames.
I found some images online, of the old necromunda buildings. Not my pictures! These are of at least three sets of buildings, but you can see the types. When I put mine together this weekend I´ll post pictures of those. along with a battle report, and short fiction pieces about each gang in the campaign hopefully!

Hmm, I'm thinking that using plastic card with bits on it and then painting it will look better than the printed card, especially for something as dedicated as =I=munda man!
You know you want to actually be doing that *jedi mind trick*

I so badly want to quote my previous thread, but that always fails for me... :(
Anyways, I will indeed do just what you recommended. That was my original plan.
All for Imunda!!
If you look at the top of this very page, you can see as much.
Or, your Jed mind tricks may be working really well, going for a preemptive mind trick.... Heheh.

I have been seriously pondering about creating some modular terrain bits in the style of those bulkheads and walls and such. Then have it cast by Troll Forged Miniatures. I just need to obtain plastic card, some good blades and a clearer idea on what I want to do. Perhaps even keep it in the same sizes as the Necromunda stuff so you could actually combine it. But yeah, I currently don't have any time for that since I'm leaving for South America next month to work on my thesis (3 months of hanging out in the desert yaaay!)

Anyways, I´mhoping that I can get some good modeling experience from working on these buildings, will be sure to post any progress I make.

Ooh, that´s nice. Sadly it´s on the wrong continent for me, otherwise I might at least want the buildings and such.
Anyways, here´s some more fluff for you all. It´s the introductions of the first four warbands in the campaign. More may be coming, but these are the current definates.

“Of Dark Places And Shady Characters”
Chapter One, Identifying the forces.
Please write a short text, describing your gang. What list have you used, what skill tree are you going to use, and any major identifiers of the gang. (no more than three lines is required, but please elaborate if you feel like it, this is supposed to be slightly narrative after all.)
Xanthos: "Sigismund´s Hunting Party"
Concept: Inquisition warband
Skill tree: Van Saar
Philosophy: Moderate, verging on radical. (No Xeno or Psyker allies.)
Having only recently become an inquisitor, Sigismund is eager to prove himself. His warband is composed mainly of people who, like himself, are off-worlders.
From his pilot, who spent most of his life aboard a Navy carrier on patrol in the armageddon sector, to the ganger girl, raised on a defense station.
His current group is medium sized, seven members, and is composed of specialists, each with a chosen field of expertise.
(Player is not a Dakka member):"Inquisitor Apollyons Seekers of Knowledge"
Concept: Inquisition warband
Skill tree: (Dunno yet, could really be almost anything)
Philosophy: Burn the witch, kill the heretic, destroy the mutant
Being a former member of the Cult Mechanicus, and having close ties to the Adeptus Mechanicus, Jebediah Apollyon was sent out by the Holy Inquisition to investigate the heretical Tau and Necron technologies. If devices of these origins are found in violation of the Sixteen Universal Laws he is to destroy them. Otherwise they are to be brought back to possibly be inducted into the Imperial Armories.
Accepting only the Holy Emperor and the Omnissiah as authorities, Apollyon scourges all demon and psycher activities he comes across before investigating any technology on the sites.
Apollyon believes the flesh to be weak and therefore doesn’t travel with a permanent retinue. Rather he brings his servitors and equipment from world to world, hiring local militia to help with the dirty work once he arrives.
Aurelion: "Rogue Trader Explorator"
Concept: A Rogue trader with Tau connections.
Skill Tree: Not decided
Philosophy: For the greater good
Acting in a deal made with the water caste. His gang is composed of members from the Tau Empire.
Air caste pilot, Fire caste sniper, his tracker, a Kroot Shaper and some former Imperial citizens (Imperial guard renegades) that are now working for the greater good.
Defcon56: "Grimaldus's Scout Team"
Concept: Adeptus Astartes Scout Team
Skill Tree: Orlock
Philosophy: Puritan
Grimaldus has been a Deathwatch Space Marine since 398. M41. His Scout Team is mainly composed by him, his scout initiates and local hivers.
His team is medium sized, 6 members, and is composed of specialists, chosen for close combat.

Hey all, yesterday turned into quite the disappointment for me, gaming wise. My plans of starting the campaign had to be postponed, because I had to go in for work at the place I used to work before I moved to Denmark, aaaargh.
We did get photo´s of one more gang, and they are included here, but the other two gangs we´ll get pictures of today. Gaming will begin here in a few hours, the first scenario is called Planetfall, and details how the various groups manage to get onto the planet, and the different issues of establishing a basecamp.
Also, I finished building two more guys for my gang last night, and spraypainted them before going off to work. When I came back, they were totally destroyed, having been trod on by my GF´s grandmother, ohh the pain... So now, instead of being almost finished with my gang, I´m back down to four finished, and three that almost haven´t been started. Dohh.
Anyways, enough about my miseries, let´s talk about pictures.
This gang is the other inquisition gang in the campaign. A gang split between Mechanicus influences, and PDF goons for support. The player isn´t on Dakka currently, so I will post these for him.
Also, I printed a set of campaign books for us, from the PDF´s online. They actually make nice books once they´re bound and stuff, I´m tempted to actually get them properly done up. We´ll see.

Fighting has commenced in the Scarus Subsector. Battle report, fluffed up properly, follows:
Chapter Two, The Summoning.
Scarus Sector, 411.M41
Inquisitors: You have received a summons from your Lord Inquisitor, asking you to go with all haste to the Antimar Subsectors capital world, Sarum.
Your instructions are to investigate rumours of cult activities, and find the source of an illness that has swept through some worlds in the system.
The illness seems very random in nature, and attempts at finding the cause have failed so far. Xeno involvement is suspected!
Astartes: Your Chapter has been informed by allies within the inquisition that they hunt for Xenophile cults in the scarus Sector. Believing that only the might of the Astartes can combat such a menace, the chapter has sent scouting teams to various locations in the sector, in order to monitor the situation.
Your orders are to hunt out and destroy any small scale cults you might find, and to warn the chapter in case you detect an infestation that is too large to handle!
Rogue Traders: Having recently moved your operations to the Antimar Subsector, you are currently hunting for opportunities to increase your wealth. While stopping over at a spacedock, you were informed that there could be a market in selling a cure to the rich, who are currently fearful of an as yet unidentified disease in the sector.
But in order to do this, you must first locate and capture the disease. You gather your closest allies around you, and prepare to find the disease, and the cure, before anyone else!
Your group has received a summoning, telling you to go to the Antimar Subsector, in the Scarus Sector, Segmentum Obscurus.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
All four of the factions we´ve identified, have made it to the capital world of Subsector Antimar, Sarum.
They have decided to start their investigations here, trusting in the immense data storage facilities of the subsector capital, and the numerous contacts some of them have made previously in the sector.
But in order to work efficiently and unopposed, it is preferable to travel in secret. For our rogue trader this is indeed paramount, since he stands at risk of being deemed xenophile and damnatus.

Chapter Three, Planetfall.
Planet Sarum, mid 411.M41
Scenario Description: You have decided to attempt a covert insertion onto the planet, and will attempt to get past security at a backwater orbital landing facility. After sneaking aboard a cargo lander, you wait until the giant craft has landed and attempt to sneak out through the lower gantries in the facility.
In order to get away cleanly, you´ll need to move silently, and in small groups.
Mission: You must get a part of your gang, representing one of the subdivisions, through one of two exits from the board. These exits are vent shafts leading out of the landing compound, and onto the planet surface.
The special rules for sneaking are used, and you will have 4 members of your gang, randomly chosen, available.
You must attempt to get by without being seen, but if you are discovered, you can choose to fight your way out, or play your wildcard, going official. This will mean that you end the mission immediately, but also that your location will be known to the others in the campaign, so they can raid you if they want.
There will be two gangs in each game, and an arbitrator will play the PDF forces guarding the landing facility.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
The layout of the facility is as follows:
In the southwestern and northeastern corners, our gangs will enter. They have jumped from the cargoholds, and are trying to reach ventilation downshafts located towards the middle of the board.
In the eastern end there is a large cooling tower. In the northwest there is a high tower, and two smaller ones are in the center, along with a loading platform.
The PDF crew numbers nine, and most are armed with lasguns, but two have bolt pistols. They move randomly, rolling a D6 –3, resulting in a nuber between –2 and 3 if the number is negative, the nearest player moves the sentries. If it is positive, the arbitrator moves them.
The PDF have a spotting distance of 2D6 inches, this is generated randomly at the beginning of the arbitrators turn.
(The rest of the rules for the sentries can be found in the necromunda core rulebook)
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
For our first game, the randomly chosen players were Inquisitor Apollyons Seekers of Truth and Grimaldus´ Scout Team.
Grimaldus came in from the SE corner, while Apollyon and his servitors entered from the NE.
The PDF were ready to receive them.
Turn One
Seizing the initiative, Grimaldus and his retinue moved to the north, heading for cover, and the exit.
A moment later the Inquisitor was able to get his servitors moving, and swiftly swept southeast, towards his chosen exit.
In their turn, the PDF forces patrolled the area around the two exit points, one or two moving into better cover from the howling winds.
Turn Two
The Adeptus Scout force moved forward, and noticed a weak point in the line of sentries.
Charging forward through the driving rain, Deathwatch Sergeant Grimaldus raised his mighty sword in a fist, the size of a normal man´s head.
The close combat saw the hapless PDF trooper brought down in a spray of blood.
Some tense moments passed, but the alarm was not raised.
Inquisitor Appolyon moved with his combat servitors into cover around the cooling tower, and scurried to the first floor.
Here they waited, hoping that the PDF guard on the other side would walk away from them the following turn.
He did not, and instead came dangerously close to discovering their position. The other PDF troopers also seemed to sense something amiss, and moved to investigate.
Turn Three
During turn three, the Astartes force consolidated it´s positions around the tall tower, and caught their breaths after the sprint across nearly open land.
Appolyon, deciding that the first floor was not viable, moved his team down to the ground floor, and closer to his objective.
The PDF troopers meanwhile, decided for the most part, that this weather was not worth going into, and moved closer to cover.
Turn Four
The Astartes team went for cover inside and around the tall tower, and got ready to make their move towards the objective.
Meanwhile, the Inquisitor and his retinue were forced to lay low due to the sentries close by.
The PDF patrolled on, still entirely unaware of the two groups converging on their position.
Turn Five
During turn five, the marines managed to get almost entirely onto their exit. A neophyte, and their local tracker actually managed to get to the ladder right below it, and Grimaldus was not far behind. Bringing up the rear, the heavy weapons neophyte was moving more slowly.
On the other side of the platform, things suddenly got violent. Deciding that speed was needed, Inquisitor Appolyon sent two of his servitors to the first floor, to deal with the nearest sentry. He knew that this meant discovery, but he could wait no longer.
The Inquisitor himself, proceeded to move into the open, to get a shot at another nearby guard.
The servitors swiftly cut down the guardsman on the first floor, and Appolyons accurate shooting saw off his target as well.
The PDF forces, now roused by the alarm, moved with all speed to intercept these intruders. However, this took them right past the Astartes scout team, and the scouts were spotted. The guards now had two groups to focus on, and two of them charged the Astartes Neophyte and tracker. This combat came out in favor of the marines, they were able to take out one of the sentries, while the other barely managed to defend himself.
Meanwhile, other PDF troopers moved towards the Inquisitor and his party, and took shots at them. One managed to down a servitor on the bridge.
Turn Six
At the beginning of turn six, the rest of the scout team charged in to bloody melee with the surviving trooper, and cut him down. After this, they waited for the right moment to escape the scene.
Appolyons downed servitor meanwhile, crawled towards the exit while the two that were still operational cut down yet another guard. Appolyon himself also moved closer, and took a shot at the PDF trooper next to his objective, on the ground floor. He was able to take him out.
The remaining two PDF units attempted to move to better positions, but were unable to make any of their shots count.
Turn Seven.
This turn saw the marines leave the scene, safely onto the planet.
The Inquisitor and his retinue moved towards the objective, Appolyon ordering his two functioning droids to move ahead through the vents. The wounded servitor crawled right up to the exit, but was unable to make it.
Turn Eight
The malfunctioning combat servitor crawled to safety. The Inquisitor made it to the gantry right next to the xit, but was charged by the remaining guards before he could leave.
Turn Nine
Inquisitor Appolyon proved once more, that he was as skilled in close combat, as he was in ranged combat. Disposing of both his adversaries, he proceeded to move into the tunnels, leaving behind a scene of carnage that would shock the response teams sent to investigate.
Following the fight, it was revealed that kills would only count for three XP, and the leader whose team had killed the fewest PDF troopers would get extra XP. This was the Astartes scout team, choosing their targets carefully.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
After the dust had settled, we ran the scenario again. This time with the two remaining gangs, Inquisitor Sigismund´s Hunting party and Rogue Trader Leonard´s rag tag group of humans, tau and even a kroot mercenary.
The Rogue Trader won the roll for corners, and chose the SE corner, the same one that had given the Astartes such a smooth way through to his exit. This meant the Inquisitor would be facing the cooling tower in the north, which would shield him for the first bit, but leave him open later on.
Turn One
The Inquisitor was first on the move, speeding into the city. He was determined that this would be a make or break attempt to go as fast as possible towards the closest exit. He led his team into the shades of the cooling tower, where they would be hidden well.
Leonard and his followers moved north, getting to the closest ruin and ducking down for cover.
The PDF forces, blissfully unaware that once again they were being raided, patrolled the area but found nothing wrong.
Turn Two
Sigismund led his agents up to the first floor, much as Inquisitor Appolyon had done earlier. They found cover behind the rear bulkhead of the tower.
The forces of the Rogue trader meanwhile, were making their way north, taking a route that would bring them right under the high tower.
The PDF guards were moving closer to the inquisitor, but did not spot him. The sentries near the southern end had apparently had a bad day, and most were just standing around, or moving north to talk to their mates there.
Turn Three
Moving slowly forwards, the Inquisitor beckoned his people forwards behind him, letting the sniper, Maynaard, bring up his rear.
Meanwhile, Leonard had reached the foot of the cooling tower with his group, and was still unseen. There was however one eagle eyed sentry, very close to them.
During theit turn the PDF forces almost detected the Rogue Trader, but apparently the fieldcraft of his Kroot ally was defeating their sensors. Inquisitor Sigismund only narrowly avoided discovery, and the nearest PDF guard was now within a few metres.
Turn Four
Sigismund now decided, that he would try one last gamble. With the amount of sentries on their way towards him, it would be a matter of time before they were discovered. But the vents were within reach, if only they could get the nearest trooper out of the way. Throwing caution to the wind, he charged out of cover, and took down the trooper. Meanwhile, he ordered the other members of his gang, to ready themselves for a run across the open, to the ventilation shaft.
The forces of the Rogue Trader used the distraction, and darted even closer to the nearby exit.
In their turn, the PDF troopers moved upon Sigismunds position in force. Several shots were fired at the inquisitor, but failed to hit him.
Turn Five
At the signal of their master, th Inquisitors pilot and mechanic ran from cover, and jumped through the vent shaft to safety. The sniper took up position immediately behind cover, and took a shot at a nearby guard. Sigismund moved slightly closer to the ventilation shaft, hoping to reach safety along with his sniper next turn.
The Rogue trader led his party to their exit, now completely unguarded, and quit the field entirely unseen and unheard.
The PDF forces, clearly sensing that this was their last chance, charged Sigismund, and took all the shots they could at his sniper agent. Although he ducked for cover, the fusillade of fire was too much, and he was taken down. Hearing the scream of his friend, Inquisitor Sigismund reached into the folds of his cloak, and pulled out his Rosette. Clearly and forcefully, he spoke out. “Imperial Inquisition! Stand down immediately!” The PDF forces lowered their guns in shock.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
After having run this scenario, the situation is the following:
Rogue Trader Leonard met his goals, and got onto the planet without ever being noticed. This will make it a lot easier for him to move about, and gather information about this supposed Xeno illness.
Astartes Sergeant Grimaldus led his men well, fighting when needed and decisively moving on his objective. He will be well placed to launch raids on suspected hotspots of trouble, and will be the eyes and ears of his chapter.
Inquisitor Appolyon fought his way to the exit, on his way he had to despatch a fearsome amount of PDF units, but such sacrifices are necessary in the search of greater knowledge.
Inquisitor Sigismund, having failed to get onto the planet secretively, had no choice but to go official. This will slow him down considerably, and will also mean that his adversaries are aware of his presence, making him a potential target for raids.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Additionally, we have been advised that two further warbands may be bound for the subsector.

wow, I really like those void suits. the arms on the 2nd guy look a bit off though. they could stand to be shifted up a tad, and posed more naturaly IMO. good stuff though, very creative idea!

@Imperial: The servitor models are from a rackhham line of models I believe. I´ll ask the guy who plays them.
@Rahveel: Thanks a lot. The second guy suffered a mishap sadly, and will not be appearing in the campaign I´m afraid... The arms would have gotten a loving hand.
I´ve gone with something completely different for my Inquisitor, some corsair cloaks and stuff is involved. I´ll get you guys some better shots of that at a late point.
As for the battlerep, I had a ton of trouble getting the image thing working, but managed to eventually. Now that I know how it works, it´ll be easier next time.
The games were great fun, not least when my inquisitor was targeted by no less than four PDF guys who were unable to even hit him!

Back on the modeling and painting today. I´m still doing GS on my new Inquisitor body, getting the corsair cloak I´m using on his front to blend better with his torso, and working on his arms.
And I´m painting up my heavy, still working on basic colors for him, so nothing fancy so far. Will get pics up later.

Bit of a modeling update tonight.
@Defcon56: Yeah, there will definately be more gaming, no worries there.
@Grey_Death: Thanks, I´m getting way more into the whole modeling aspect of the hobby because of this project. Before doing this group I hardly ever did more than just gap filling and minor stuff. Now I´m doing major changes to models, and my Inquisitor even has a GS hand holding his hand flamer!
I´m getting close to finishing the sculpting part of the Inquisitor. His sword still needs a grip, and I need to smooth out his left hand a bit before painting. O
ther than that, the ropes on his front still need some bits, a claspwhere they meet and an hour glass on the end of the trailing bit should do nicely I think. I might also bulk up his right shoulder somewhat, as it is now it´s entirely regular, pretty much the only thing on him that is...
They sadly aren´t visible, but I sculpted clasps for where the rope meets the cloak. I´ve finished with sculpting the upper bit of the dragon skin on his front, and I´m pretty happy with how that turned out. By tomorrow evening I hope this guy will be ready for spraying.
Piccies!

Yeah, I´ll get his fluff up soonish, and you´ll see why I´ve gone with the void suit theme here.
His feet and legs haven´t been changed a lot, I´ve bulked up his shoes to make them more "space"ish, and given him knee guards, that´s pretty much it.
Will try to get some good pictures today.

The Inquisitor looks good so far. Nice to see you continue the Void suit theme with him. The flamer looks a bit heavy for an one handed weapon, so I like how you emphasis it's heavieness by letting the =I= to rest it on his shoulder plate!
Looking forward on finished figure.
The battle report was nice also, altough the amount of unfinished figures almost blinded me!
How is that big marine repped in the actual rules? I hope he got better stats than just a gang leader...
3468
Post by: Xanthos
Hey Hammer, good to see you again. Yes, the void suit made me happy, so I decided to roll with it.
Was thinking that the flamer was a bit big to have him pointing it, so that was the best option I figured.
I´ll be spraypainting him this evening, and starting paint.
Thanks, took me ages to get the pictures right, and oh god oh god oh god, the unpainted horror... :S
The Marine is repped as a complete and utter maniac rules-wise. He takes up almost half of the gangs points allowance on his own, is S5, and more than thrice as dangerous as any other character in the campaign I´d reckon.
In the first battle, he inflicted 8 wounds on a hapless PDF sentry, in a single round of combat!
9997
Post by: Rahveel
do you have his compleate stats? I am looking for good (but not to overpowerd) rules to use for my CSM leader. using up about half the gangs cost sounds right though.
3468
Post by: Xanthos
He started out as the gang leader. He was given a Power Armour that gives him a 3+ save, a photovisor and respirator, and +1S.
He also has plusses to his strength, wounds and LD stats.
That´s all I can reveal right now. However, a bit more explaining is required in order to emphsise the power of the guy, I think.
Starting groups in the campaign have five choices from the rare trade charts in the Necromunda books. He takes up 2 of these.
They also have five upgrades from the experience lists. He takes up three of these.
So all in all, he uses half of his gangs "special" stuff.. Makes him a brute in a fight, and very scary for everyone else involved in the campaign, while not "broken", we feel.
9997
Post by: Rahveel
hmm, that is a good idea. may have to give it a go/
3468
Post by: Xanthos
Go for it man!
Oh, one more thing, for our campaign, we´ve gone with pricing Power Armour at 200pts, with the respirator and photo visor things on it.
Some more pictures of progress here, loot counters for the coming scenarios, some more of these to make still. Also, the pilot, remade and improved. He has a holster on his belt, empty, cause the pistol is his hand! Obvious, innit?
And some shots of the Inquisitor, all done modeling now, time to get some paint on this bad boy. I had hope I´d get time for it yesterday and this morning, but christmas cornered me and stole my time..
Merry Christmas to one and all.

We´re starting round two of scenarios tonight, the warbands are now searching for clues on planet Sarum, trying to find a lead that will give them an edge in the hunt for the disease!

Hey, thanks guys, it´s good to hear that people like what I´ve done with him. I´m painting him still, and don´t want to post PIP pictures until he´s done, but that is likely to be some time tomorrow.
We had some cool games last night, mine was a draw, but my group did manage to secure a vital clue in the campaign. More on that tomorrow as well.
Working tonight.... <sigh>

Very nice updates after my last visit. Great work Xanthos.
The =I= looks very interesting now, waiting to see some paint on him.

Post by: Xanthos
Hey Northen, thanks a lot. Not getting as much posted just now as i´d hoped, time has begun to shorten here, and I want to get as many games in as possible.
A further three games have been played, battle reps will get here as soon as is possible.
Also, I´ve painted the Inquisitor, almost done with him, mostly basing and last details to be done.
Hopefully piccies of some of the stuff by tomorrow at some point.

Also looking forward to Paint. The =I= is indeed promising. Which head is that? Nice use of bitz overall

If I'm not mistaken that the Space Wolf plastic head! If that is so this means that Xanthos is probably the first person I've witnessed using a Space Wolf head on a non-marine model that actually looks convincingly good! Most of the time the Space Wolf head looks too big compared to the rest of the model.

Post by: Xanthos
I thank you for the many kind words guys, I´m closing on the "finished" point with my =I=, and he looks even better (I think) with paint.
Migsula, Malika2, the head is actually from a resin set bought from my FLGS, I believe it was called "barbarian head sprue"..
Several excellent heads, well moulded, and they cost less than 4 euro´s so I´m happy with that.
I looked at the SW head originally, but it was way too big for this type of model.

Update time! With Pics!
As I´ve mentioned, I started painting the =I=. I´ve gone with some of the colors I´ve used for the other members of the group, but I´ve added more bronze and gold, as well as going for a deeper, richer green for his cloak. These are still PIP, but closing on the finish line now.
Also, in a spur of the moment thing, I decided that his one in a million bolt pistol will be carried by a servo skull, mounted beside him on the base. So I´ve started working on that, and so far I like it.
So please please please, let me know what you all think, is he too dark, too light, too tall, too white? C&C welcomed!

I think his sword should be plain ol' silver. it would go better with the classic, old style look you have going there.
I would make him maybe a little darker, or add weathering since you arn't going for the usual shiny christmas tree inquisitor look
3468
Post by: Xanthos
Might be good with silver, yes.... I probably wouldn´t have thought about it, since it seems too flashy for him, but I could always dull it down, and do washes and progressive highlights on it. Might be cool.
And thanks for noticing, I´ve tried to move away from the "target marker" colours of many Inquisitors.

Post by: CommissarKhaine
It may be the lighting, but the cloak looks like it could use some highlights. If you want a reptilian looking skin, a DA green base coat and a prgressive highlight to rotting flesh looks nice, especially when washed with thraka green or asurmen blue. Or both . Sam goes for the sword: a few more highlights look like they would help out a lot.
Very nice model, I'm looking forward toth e servoskull!

ya know, I like the black blade. looks like he just dosent have it turned on. lots of military knives have a black finish to reduce reflection, i could see that being carried into the 4ok universe. I would paint the wire/power thingie on the blade though, it makes it just look unpainted with it all solid black.
3468
Post by: Xanthos
Hey guys, thanks for the comments, interesting to see what you think about this.
@CommissarKhaine: Yes, the cloak is not done at all yet. I´m actually working from orkhide shade and up. And yes, washes are the king.
The sword may get a colour switch, but I may also just finish highlighting it, in the style it is now.
@Rahveel: That was actually the effect I was going for. A bit like the DA blades, but different enough to be its own thing.
The wires and such will get paint, no worries. I just need to finish the blade itself first.

Hey everyone, quick new years update here.
The campaign has been finished (for now), and the results were very close, but more on that when the remaining battle reps are posted.
Sadly none of this will be sooner than january 3rd, since I´ll be travelling home after new years, and will be without both models and computer for that... <sigh>
Happy new years to all!

Post by: grey_death
I would definitely suggest a color swap on the sword. Use a color already in the palette for it. Either a new shade of green or go with a nice muted red/black.
I think highlights are the biggest part I feel is missing right now. If you are highlighting and washing after, be sure to re-highlight when the wash dries to bring the high points back up from the wash. This applies to just about anything, from flesh tones to metallics.

Nice progress, The sword needs some more work, it's such a focal pt, I too would use metallics, but maybe go black with mithril edges and a silver handle. I think the flamer would really benefit from mithril HLs too. I think overall the metals need more contrast, darker areas and shiny edges. Be very experimental, tap on some inks, then re HL, try glazing etc. I always try to make every metal effect a little different. It means not all of them work out ideally, but you learn so much and add interest.

There isn't a PDF for =I=munda, since it's basically Necromunda with a few modifications. Each campaign here is being run in its own way. However, in the Skirmish Games section we do discuss the rules for =I=munda, so if you got questions, post them there!

Post by: Xanthos
As Malika2 says, there isn´t one set of rules, it´s basically each group doing interpretations of the extra stuff we´re adding.
Of course this stuff is written down, so if you want a look, just PM me and we´ll figure something out.
Also, as you can probably see, I am now at a place with a computer, so I shall name this day "slaving-at-the-computer-to-get-battlereps-finished-day".
It´s not the greatest name for a day ever, but it gets the meaning across.
Hopefully I´ll have one or two pieces of storyline/battlereps on here later. And piccies!

Chapter Four, Hunting and Gathering.
Planet Sarum, mid 411.M41
Following the arrival of several warbands, and the establishment of base camps, the scene is set for formal investigations to begin. All of the groups are intent on finding the source of this mysterious disease. Several leads are being followed up, and it is inevitable that groups will clash as they search the city for viable clues.
One promising lead has arisen in the hive stacks, where several people have been reported dead from ”An yllnesse of the enfeebling kynde, the viktims wasting away for severral days before finally dying fromme the seizures”.
Special Rule: In the hive stacks, the poor lighting conditions mean that anyone without thermogoggles will need to test for sighting range before firing rangedweapons.
Another lead is in the Hospitalis Von Kaelon, where a noble who died under mysterious circumstances has been examined thoroughly by the medicae on watch.
Special Rule: Any fighter who goes out of action in the hospital, will roll twice on the injuries chart, keepint the better result. They´re IN the hospital!
The third promising lead lies in a factory complex to the south of the city, which has been abandoned for months, following an outbreak of the disease there. It has been cleansed by flame, but the bodies of the dead are still in the ruins, decaying fast in the extreme environment of the dust fields.
Special Rule: While in the factory complex, any model which ends it´s movement more than 4” from cover must make a S test, or be pinned till next round. This is due to the howling winds that arise in the open spaces out here. Additionally, there is no use of tunnels or vents, since these systems don´t extend this far.
Each group of adventurers must split into three groups, to cover each area. They must cover all three locations, but the groups can be as large or as small as the leader would like.
Once combat begins, each player will only have the group at the rolled location at his disposal, and must choose whether or not to call on his reinforcements. If he leaves them in place, they each have a chance of finding a second (or even third) clue, getting the investigating party further in the quest for the disease.
Any group that is recalled, has a 5+ chance of arrival on the next turn, and 4+ after that.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Up first, by random decision, are PrOtOcoN´s ”Ch´Pekks Mercenary Warband” (One of the new arrivals) and Xanthos with ”Sigismunds Hunting Party”.
The Xenos are divided as follows:
Hive Stacks Kurtz Bonesmasha (Orkoid ganger), Makaii Snorrison (Squat Heavy) and Lo’Mog (Kroot Juve).
Hospital Shas’ui Kel’shan Kais Kauyon (Tau Ganger), and Armin Reetho (Human Juve)
Factory Complex Ch’Pekk (Kroot leader), and Lo’Zog (Kroot ganger)
The Inquisitor divides his forces thusly:
Hive Stacks Jayna Saar (Gunslinger), Jhess Lange (Juve) and Maynaard (Sniper)
Hospital Inquisitor Sigismund and his pilot Doily Ronson.
Factory Complex Hanta Khorod (the heavy), and De´Norio Kh´na (The Void Born)
After doing so, we roll off for which groups will clash.
The hive stacks 1-2
The Hospital 3-4
The Factory Complex 5-6
Each of these has its own special rules, as explained.
The rolloff is a six, so the Ordo Xenos will clash with the Xeno warband on the factory complex.
Setup:
The roll for setting up is won by Ch´Pekk(KL), and he sets up on the western side of the complex, readying his Kroot brother(KG) for combat.
The Void Born De´Norio( VB) and Hanta Khorod(HV) with his heavy stubber, are the first to arrive on the side of the Inquisitor, and they get ready to make a dash out of the howling winds, and into the city.
The loot counters are then randomly placed, at points between the two warbands.
Turn One:
The Inquisitors agents are the first to move. They decide to let Inquisitor Sigismund and the group going through the hive stacks know, and both groups soon acknowledge that they are on the way.
The two Kroot mercenaries waste no time, with the scent of their prey on the wind they make haste towards the imperials. One of the kroot uses his fearsome leaping ability to propel himself up a floor.
Turn Two:
The Inquisitorial agent with the heavy stubber climbs the ladder closest to him, and starts advancing across the gangway towards the elevator tower. Meanwhile the Void Born advances on the ground level, heading for the loot counters.
On the Kroot side, Ch´Pekk runs a bit to the north, and sets up for a grapnel shot onto the small tower. The Kroot Ganger, Lo´Zog, runs further into the complex, and leaps even further. He is now in position to pick up the nearest loot counter next turn!
The Kroot leader shoots his grapnel, and gets a good hit on the first floor of the small tower.
At the end of the turn, the first reinforcements for both sides arrive. The imperial agents are relieved to see that the Inquisitor(=I=) himself is here, flown by landspeeder. He dismounts, and takes his pilot( PG) with him into the ruins.
The Kroot leader rejoices, as his Orkoid ally (OG), along with the remaining Kroot (KJ) and the squat Heavy(HV), have come to assist him.
Turn Three:
The Imperial heavy moves onto the elevator in the elevator tower, and begins his ascent to the topmost level.
The void born moves underneath the bridge by the High Tower, and prepares to make a dash for the nearby loot pile.
Meanwhile, the Inquisitor and his pilot move to the base of the nearby tower, readying themselves for battle.
On the western side of the complex, the Kroot continue to advance.
Ch´Pekk winches himself to the small tower,
while the leaping kroot gets to the first loot pile. He busies himself with grabbing it, for later analysis.
In the reinforcement phase, the last of the Inquisitorial forces arrive, the Sniper(SN), the Gunslinger( GS) and the Juve Mechanic(JV).
Turn Four:
Inquisitor Sigismund and his pilot run further into the complex, heading for the two loot piles up north of the elevator tower. His newly arrived reinforcements run up in support, except for the sniper, who sets up for a shot at any xeno mercenaries that might show their heads.
The Heavy gets to the top of the tower, and the void born reaches his first loot counter, grabbing it for the Inquisitions forensic teams.
The Kroot mercenaries also move further into the complex, the leaping kroot ganger reaching the top of the high tower,
and the leader firing his grapnel gun at the foot of the elevator tower. The squat heavy moves onto the walkway towards the middle of the board,
and the Ork ganger, along with the Kroot juve, move along the ground, supporting their leader.
Turn Five:
The Imperials, getting closer to the northern objectives, decide to reinforce these positions, moving a total of four models to within distance of the nearest one. The sniper moves north, looking for a clean shot at the kroot leader, suspecting that he´ll be making a move for the loot piles as well.
The heavy atop the elevator tower opens up an impressive fusillade of fire on the kroot in the next tower, but even with five shots he fails to hit him.
In the Xenos turn, the Kroot ganger moves onto the loot marker, picking it up and shooting the Heavy in the elevator tower. The heavy falls over the edge of the tower, and is out of action! The ork moves to the north, the squat heavy moves closer to the middle of the table, and the kroot juve moves to join him. Finally, the fearless Ch´Pekk uses his grapnel line to slide over to the elevator tower.
The Imperial sniper, having set his sights so carefully, is knocked down by the fierce winds, and falls to the ground, pinned.
Turn Six
The Inquisitor and his three agents move into firing positions, and unleash a fearsome amount of firepower at the kroot leader. He goes down, losing a wound, and taking a further flesh wound.
The sniper struggles to get up, and the void born makes a move north, for the loot counter in the middle square.
The Kroot leader manages to get up in his turn, and proceeds to move into flaming range, taking a shot that hits Inquisitor Sigismund and his pilot full on. The Inquisitor suffers a wound, and his pilot takes a flesh wound in the flames.
The Ork moves further forwards,
and the leaping ganger moves down from the High tower to join his kin and the Squat heavy between the two buildings on the first floor bridge.
Turn Seven
Recovering from his wounds sufficiently to stand up, the Inquisitor prepares his people to charge the Kroot Leader. He charges along with the gunslinger and the Juve, while the pilot moves forward, planning to secure the nearby loot counter.
Meanwhile, the void born moves further into the ground level of the elevator building, and takes a shot at the squat heavy, but misses. The close combat sees losses on both sides. The Juve Mechanic goes out on the imperial side with hideous wounds to her eyes, but the Kroot leader goes down, fearsomely wounded.
The imperials consolidate closer to the buildings.
The Ork moves onto the loot counter west of the imperial positions,
and the remaining mercenaries prepare to hold their side of the board, sending the Kroot juve forwards into the middle courtyard.
Turn Eight
Having taken the mercenary groups leader out of action, Inquisitor Sigismund decides to charge the Orkoid ganger on the nearby loot pile. He charges, and orders his pilot to collect the eastern counter.
In the ensuing close combat, the inquisitor falls to the ork´s hideous strength. As he falls, the morale of his group falters, and hauling their fallen with them, they withdraw from the field.
Aftermath:
The mercenaries ended up being in control of the battlefield, and taking four of the six loot counters as their spoils. A D6 was rolled to see which loot piece was the one retaining the clue, and it proved that the very one that the inquisitors pilot had secured, held the clue that was searched for!
This made the battle a draw, the Inquisitor claiming a moral victory, and the Kroot claiming victory on the battlefield.

looks good so far what does your sniper hit and wound on i know he hits on 2+ or is it not?
3468
Post by: Xanthos
He´s a ganger with a Hotshot upgraded Lasgun, with the sharpshooter ability, and a telescopic sight.
So basically, he hits on a 3+ out to 24 inches, and on a 4+ to 36 inches. He wounds on a 3+ against T3 models.
What we´ve been doing in this campaign, is using the rules to make interesting models, that function as we´d imagine them to. So even though there were three (or four) snipers in the campaign, no two of them were exactly the same.
Some went with higher BS, some with better gear, some with skills and gear, you get the picture.

Could be fun to do a cross country =I=Munda campaign at some point...
Anyways, bit of an update, though no piccies (yet). I´ve decided that for this summers gaming, some vehicles will be needed, since the adversaries the groups shall face will be greater.
And since too much is never enough, I´ve decided that I´m going to make a Repressor for my group. Yes, they do have a stretch land speeder, and that´s all good and well, but some times you just want to drive into stuff!
Piccies later tonight, going out for supplies now. The dozer blade is well begun, and I´m laying out designs for the upper structure of the beast.
In case people don´t know what a repressor is, here´s a link to FW:
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Badger.htm
Additional; yes, I could just buy the kit. No I´m not doing this cause I´m a cheapskate. I just want to see if I can. Plus, this way I can make adjustments to the design easier.
3468
Post by: Xanthos
Right, update time, with piccies!
I´ve been working on the prow dozer of the Repressor today. I think it looks quite okay, I´m probably going to leave the eagle off, since I want to put some text on the front.
I´m thinking something along the lines of "In Nomine Imperator" and below it, inlarger letters "!Ex Via!".
As far as my understanding of latin goes (admittedly VERY limited) this should mean "In the name of the Emperor, !Out of the Way!"
I´ll be working on the hull section tomorrow, thinking that I´ll do a different design than the FW one, with slopin armor along the sides possibly. Any thoughts?
Piccies!

"Ex Via" would not mean what you want by "get out of the way". Literally, "ex via" would mean "the way out". What you're wanting to say is "Ite Ex Devio". Literally this means "get (you pl. imperative) out of-the-way." It would be best to identify which way you want them to get out of, such as "Meo Devio," meaning "my way." But, "Ite Ex Devio" does suffice as decent Latin.
As a note, I can read/write/speak classical and ecclesiastic Latin, so if anyone wants something in Latin PM me.

One very interesting group, was one of the late comers, who did some excellent conversion work on some kroot, with dark elf corsair bits, and some great GS work on their bases.
Our other late entry led the second group of Rogue Traders, some cool models in there as well, a heavy with an Autocannon amongst them!
They may join Dakka themselves, or mail me their stuff, but you´ll get to see it, no worries.
Oh, and thanks, I think once it gets painted, the dozer should look rather cool.

Hi Xanthos,
I was just checking out some Reaper Chronoscope models and came across the mini you used for your mechanic. However the one I saw advertised had a gun rather than a wrench. Did you convert, or does she come with different options in the pack for tooling her up?

Different options, there was a gun and a wrench, but I felt the wrench was necessary for the look I wanted.

Pretty cool; it looks a lot more capable of transporting 10 people now as well. The forward hatch looks a tad big though. Have you considerd an old leman russ hatch? The new tank accessory sprues has alternate hatches, so any IG player near you should have a spare, and they're slightly smaller IIRC. Anyway, congrats on the scratchbuilding, it looks very good!

Hey all, thanks once again for the comments. I´ll have a picture update some time tomorrow. I´ve done something interesting for the fire points on the hull, looking forward to hear your thoughts on that..
For now, I´ll try to answer your comments/thoughts.
@CommissarKhaine: Yeah, the transport thing always bugged me about the rhinos, and this looks better to me too. I tried with several different hatches, but the main problem seemed to be that it didn´t seem believable that a crewman could fit in there if I made the thing any smaller..
@Jamunition: Thanks, the dozer blade is actually the only thing that´s ready for paint. I´ll have to see if I can match the standard of that on the rest of the tank.
@Smiling Assasin: Thanks a lot. As for the tank deflector, I have been considering what to put on top of it. Deflector thingy is an option, or possibly a huge antenna array, a bit like WW1 british tanks sometimes had, or possibly barbed wire coiled around the upper hull, to further dissuade people from trying to stop the beastie?
@Golden eyed scout: Thanks
@CMDante: Thanks a bunch, I´ll make sure not to disappoint!

Xan's pestering spree finally convinced me to make an account and post my models!
Here's the gang, still missing the Tau ganger as well as the Squat heavy.
Ch'Pekk, kroot shaper. Armed with a flamer and a poweraxe
Kurtz Boncesmasha, fearsome orc ganger. Armed with a "Chainsword" and a handflamer
Lo'Zog, agile kroot ganger. Armed with a combat shotgun and frag grenades.
Armin Reetho, human juve crazy enough to roll with a gang of xenos. Armed with a handflamer, laspistol and his trusty knife "Slick Betty"
Lo'Mog, kroot juve. Armed with a massive axe (obviously )
This is my first Necromunda gang, though I've had an interest in making one for awhile. One thing that may not be apparent is how big these guys are. Here's a shot of my Kroot ganger next to a regularly sized model.
Huge honking xenos scum!
So, that's my gang so far. I've been pulled away from further conversion at the moment due to having to return to some necromancy and reinforcing my Vampire Count army...can't ever have enough zombies, eh?
Alrighty...hope you enjoy these!

A GREAT addition to the thread AND the community!
Welcome to Dakka. And I have to say, awesome conversions all around. Consider the Kroot merc warband idea stolen ^_-. We're about to start Necro in my area, and I think I might have my count as...

Welcome aboard dude! Cool looking xenos! I'm curious though, are these xenos all mercenaries or something? How did they all come together? What's their story?

Welcome to dakka PrOtOcoN, great to see your gang again
And thanks for some great games during the holidays, can't wait to see your WIP this summer

Malika2, these Kroot were mercenaries, sent on the hunt by the Tau as I recall, though of course Protocon is the guy to answer more precisely...
No real update today guys, sadly my day was destroyed by weird plumber guys tearing the water pipes out of the wall at my place.
Exciting stuff no doubt, but not the best motivation for modeling stuff... :S

Ah yes.
The background for my gang was roughly as follows (roughly since I never really wrote it down, I just sortof have it in my head).
The cadre and kin of my Gang leader, the shaper Ch'pekk, was decimated by a unknown virus spread to them by outsiders that had come to their world in search of resources or exploitable technological relics. Enraged at the loss of his kin, he took the few kroot who had avoided the sickness and met with a Tau representative, demanding to be allowed to exact revenge for his kin. The tau, realizing that a renegade kroot shaper running amock in a Imperial system might be construed the wrong way they attempted to persuade him to not go. Refusing to drop the matter, a Shas'ui of drawn from the local Fire warrior regiments was sent with him to act as a observer. Ch'pekk was advised to heed his council on matters dealing directly with the Imperium, or anyone else that the Tau would require favorable diplomatic relations with.
Ch'pekk, now seemingly on a leash, was let to go off on his foolish quest. He scoured the region for the source of the intruders piecing together clues from what little they had gathered from the bodies and paraphernalia of the intruders. They were human, had come on a modified atmo-craft and had been escorted by a bodyguard of cybernetically enhanced humans, later identified as Hive pit slaves.
Eventually, through rigorous investigation, bribery, torture and murder, Ch'pekk's band of Xenos scum has made its way to Sarum, Antimar subsector, Scarus sector.
Here their investigation continues.
As to where some of their gang members are from. They're from here and there. The ork was recruited from a world within Tau space, where mercenaries of a variety of races make their home. The ork had offered information in return for passage to another planet, but one thing led to another (among them him getting shot in the head and needing a bionic replacement) which made him stick with the Kroot cadre. Perhaps in them he found kindred spirits, perhaps he went completely mad when his head got a few extra airholes? The reason is perhaps not so important, but he's a spirited fighter and as long as they don't go too long without a good brawl he's content.
The only human in the gang, Armin Reetho, was recruited near Sarum. He had been serving three consecutive life sentances on a penal colony farm. After acting as an informant to the kroot gang he joined with them now acting as their representative when the need arises to deal with the human populace (before it had fallen to the Shas'ui to deal with the matters while wearing a disguise). The squat heavy had been a mechanic on a large cargo transporter until it had encountered a space hulk and...well...the details are perhaps not the most important. What is important is that by the time Ch'Pekk's gang had fought off the possessed crew of the hulk and then redirected the two ships in a slow spiral into a nearby pulsar, the squat Makaii Snorrisson and the gang had become bonded through shared trials and victories.
So, a questing band of Xenos mercenaries and their allies trying to locate the source of a mysterious sickness.
Sounds like an adventure to me!

Scary to show of my gang, considering the standard of the thread, but here goes. I finally managed to pry the camera out of Pr0t0coN's hands, so it's time to show off my gang!
So to start of with is my recently arrived juve, featuring a club and an old fashioned stub gun:
Second, we have my heavy, sporting his massive autocannon:
Then there is my medic, a ganger with a lasgun:
Lark, a ganger with some mutation happening, sporting a bolt pistol:
Last but not least we have Scott Prailig, carrying a lasgun under one arm, wielding a laspistol in the other and otherwise carrying an impressive amount of looted stuff around. (he's not a chaos worshipper)
So there they are! As I mentioned, they're all WIP, some more than others. Bases and more conversion stuff to follow.

Yay, return of the grim dark scotsman! Excellent stuff Gerbrith, thanks for getting them up here.
The juve looks awesome, get some paint on her, she deserves it

Dude, I so want one of my warband to wear a kilt now.
Kilts = Awesome
mind if I steal it?

Post by: gerbrith
Hehe, feel free to steal away. ^^
I didn't realize that the kilt thing hadn't been done to death. Just felt like the right thing for that particular "character".
I intend to get some painting done as well, but I'm currently in a treacherous war with that thing called school. My battle-plan includes loads of studying, but leaves little time for painting. :(

yeah, Im thinking my big mutie needs a Kilt. as a side note, I like your models quite a bit, but could do with some sharper pics to help the detail stand out.
Protocon, Love the fluff. your warband defanatly fits the 'cool' bill. when I read Xan's battle rep, I was interested in seeing how a varied group of xenos got together, seems to have worked out well. when do we see some painting?

Post by: Defcon56
Waauuw, that's a fine looking group of individuals you have there Gerbrith.
I like the Scottish man the most.
I've been trying to do some stuff, painting my guys and a bit of modeling on the Transport/Tank, while I've been sick.
Yeah, I always thought there was something good with sicknesses. You get more time to model.
This is all wip, but people have been wanting pictures, so I bring you Grimaldus's Scout Team!!
I am sorry for bad quality of pictures.

Hey Migs, yeah this is everyone except the Tau influenced Roggue Trader. He´s got some nice models as well, amongst them some FW tau, and an ANCIENT imperial assain type guy, gooood stuff.
Still working on several things here, but not picture-worthy just yet.

Xanthos, when will you tell us what the next step in the story is? Don't we have about two players in each country at the moment? Let's keep going!
3468
Post by: Xanthos
That´s a good thought, I´ve actually been speaking with some of our other players, and they have said the same thing.
So expect fluff mails including the next scenario as soon as I get the time to finish it.
I need to change it slightly, since you will be without arbitrators.
As far as my modeling goes, everything is on hold at the moment, due to school+work. :S

Post by: Xanthos
Right, Wasn´t going to post this yet, but since it may be a week at least until any more happens to it, here´s where the repressor stands now. I´ve done some GS work on the hull extension, and I´ve added firing slits, a bit different in design than the FW ones, so what do you think?
I´m thinking that this way, they remain closed until they´re needed, and then you slide them open, fire and close again. There is a lot of GS work to do yet, of course.

Great work Xanthos.
I really like the firing-slits that you have made. It's really beginning to look like a tank/transport worthy of the mighty Inquisition.
What kind of colours have you thought about, for this wonderful piece of Tech?
Keep 'em coming!!
3468
Post by: Xanthos
Thanks a lot, we tries, we tries.
I just wanted to do something a bit more WW1-esque, a bit more gothic than the FW original.
I´ve been thinking greys, keeping it in a color scheme that is similar to my land speeder transport. That way they´ll work together, or alone.
So light grey base, dark grey detail work, and probably a lot of funny little detail work.

Post by: Defcon56
Maybe some of those good old yellow and black warning stripes as well.
I'm really looking forward to get to see it when it is completely done.

Hey all, it´s update time in =I=Munda land once more!
I´ve been extremely busy through January, but due to a weeks holiday I now present the finished Inquisitor Sigismund, with servoskull companion and everything!
I ended up doing some weird white lightning effects on his sword. I´m not entirely happy with how it looks in these pics, but it´s time to move on to new things.
Amongst these new things are a few additions to the Navy Armsmen. A breaching crew, consisting of three guys so far, to support my first void born character in ship-to-ship combat.
The first of these guys is finished as far as modeling goes, will start on the paint tonight. He´s the breacher, so he´s wielding a chainfist, with a built in handflamer unit. His job is to create openings for the team, and flushthem with flames before they enter.
He´s not carrying any other weapons just now, since he is more of a worker than a soldier. His colors will be classic construction yellows and greys.
Ah well, enough of me waxing lyrical, here are the piccies!

I like the breach guy, his body armor is the regular IG armor but that piece below the breast, what is that, did you build that or rip it off a kit or something?
It makes the armor look more like storm trooper armor..
3468
Post by: Xanthos
That´s actually grey stuff, put it on there to break away from the look of the original armor.
I got some paint on him yesterday, will put pictures up later.
next up are the two guys that are next through the breach, a heavy flamer guy and a guy with a shotgun.
3468
Post by: Xanthos
Okay then, I got some painting done yesterday and today. Here is the breacher guy as he stands now. I´ve gone with an industrial theme for him, so lots of yellow and such. He still needs weathering, paint chips, scorch marks and markings on the armored bits, but main painting is pretty much done.
I also took the chance to try a method I´ve never used before, and went for a reflection on his visor, in graded blues and browns. I feel that it came out okay, but it´s something I still need to work on.
Pictures for the masses!

Lovely work - the new guy reminds me of a G.I.JOE character in a nice way. I like the visor effect too, but maybe the reflection should look more urban??
3468
Post by: Xanthos
Hey, thanks migs, he does seem a bit "G.I. Joe!", now that you mention it. He will be properly dunked in the full horror of weathering and chipping, to bring him into the 40k universe though.
As for the visor, I realised even as I was doing it, that the motif was somewhat idyllic. I may go back and change it for something darker and possibly add more reds to the air part, but it was great fun to do.
For the record, it´s a gradual lightening of vallejo black brown, to skull white for the ground, and vallejo ultramarine to skull white for the sky part.
About seven steps for each part, on a bit that´s basically as large as a shoulder pad. Good fun!
Edit: Thanks for the compliment Aunshova. The helmet really is the biggest experimental bit with this guy. That and some pretty fiddly GS work.

Post by: calavera
That looks ace! Have you thought about using a gloss varnish on the visor? It might just give it a bit more kick to it!
3468
Post by: Xanthos
Hey all, thanks for the positive comments! Seems that people mostly like the visor, and are iffy on the yellow. Well I´ve been working on the yellow today, and it´s gotten alot better I feel.
I can tell you that the visor was an absolute blast to paint, and I definately want to do more stuff like that. The progressive lightening is way easier than it looks, and the vallejo colors lend them selves well to the technique since they seem to be slower drying than GW.
I´ve also been hard at work putting final touches on the next two guys for the gang, and I feel that I´m close to finished with their modeling work.
No pictures tonight, the bleeping cable has gone awol and I´m too tired to search for it right now.. Hopefully it shall reappear in the light of day.

Yellow is a tricky one to go with. I think the shade in the picture you have posted doesn't fit with the rest of your group or their tone and style. It is very reminiscent of a GI Joe character.
In order to get it to work with the tones and shades of the rest of the group I think you either need to lighten it to an almost white yellow, or darken it down (possibly mixing in some charadon granite and a little light grey). Either of those should produce a more "gritty" and realistic tone.
Gotta agree with all the others, the visor looks wicked.
Why is he squating on a broken wall?
Keep up the good work.
Cheers,
Dante

Hey everyone, thanks for all the kind words about the visor. Good to see that hard work pays off. The yellow is indeed tricky. This guy will be the only one in the group with the yellow, but I´ve been working on getting him grittier and more 40K´ish. Still needs something, but I think he´s getting there...
If he ends up being too far from the style of the group he may end up being a civilian contractor for fluffyness. We´ll see.
@CMDante: He´s not actually astride it, he´s stepping through it, after cutting a hole in it.
In other news, the next two guys are now almost done as far as modeling is concerned, the shotgun guy just needs some shells on the side of the gun, and the flamer operator needs to get his helmet and airsupply attached.
And also, I have located the cable for my camera, yay! So piccies are here!
