Heheh, thanks jamunition, glad to hear that I´ve made a believer out of you.

Thanks Iron Wings, I´m beginning to like them more and more. At first I wasn´t planning to do a whole unit of them, it just worked out that way.... I want to make at keast five total, preferably ten.

Tonight I´ve started on painting the shotgun guy and the flamer operator. I´m going with more subdued colors for them, dark green for the suits, and either off-white or gloss black for armor. Not sure yet about the armor bits.

Also, I´ve made a test model for an autogun with underslung grenade launcher. I need to see it with paint on before I decide whether I like it.

Picture update tomorrow, need better light for picture taking.

Edit: Hey, that´s the 300th post in this thread! This is madness!

Hey Xanthos, when will you tell us what happens next? We're tip-toe'ing over here. ^^ I finished painting my heavy btw. I'll try to get some piccies up later.

As promised, I hereby present to you my Heavy. There is still some detail work left, but all in all, I think this is how I want to have him.

The heavy of my Imunda group. He wields an autocannon, fashioned from a Catachan weapon team autocannon. I shortened the barrel and added a handle. The legs are from a WHFB Chaos Marauder, the torso from a basic Catachan pack, though it was too short, so the stomach is gs, along with the belt. The right arm was holding a lasgun which I cut out so that he could grasp the handle. The shotgun is from an "extra weapon" sprue, and the holster is gs. Enjoy!

Cool looking Heavy there Gerbrith!

Really looks great with paint.

Keep up the good work.

That's some serious man-portable dakka. Was the shotgun off of a necromunda sprue?

Awesome looking stuff in this thread. Makes me want to grab my clippers, bits box and paints and start a gang myself.

Xan´s =I=Munda Campaign: Of Dark Places and Shady Characters @ 2009/03/09 22:36:30

Post by: Xanthos

Nice heavy! Good skin tones on him, and the gun has been weathered nicely. Your painting skills continue to impress, Gerbrith.

Mercurial: I believe the shotgun is indeed off of a Necromunda bits pack.

Excommunicate Traitoris: Go for it! The more the merrier, it´s a great game for fast skirmishes and pick-up games on weekends. But most importantly, it doesn´t make as big demands on the amount of models needed to play.

Also, the second half of the campaign has now been mapped out, expect news on that soonish. (Thanks for pestering me Gerbrith, I needed that.)

So.... Update time.

I haven't been doing so much with my gang lately, because of homework and need for excessive reading for my finishing project. (For my first year in High School)

I was thinking that now that we are set to play in the summer, we shouldn't only have gangs but also "enemies".
So I made this metallic wolf as a prototype, of something that could be used as fighting material. Don't really know where it can come into the picture, but I think that our wonderful GM might have something for it. Otherwise it has been quite fun to paint.

I was thinking that it might be fun to make a gang that was maybe different, so I have chosen to make an interrogator instead of an actual Inquisitor, but I do not know if this might work, because aren't interrogators like the right hand man of an Inquisitor? Oh well, we'll see how it goes.

The other pictures are of two of my members of my new gang.

The bitz for my Inquisiton Interrogator, very WiP.
A Fighter (w/plasma pistol and chainsword)

Interesting start on the new guy Defcon, good choice of head. Those scout frames are just great for bits, the quality of the new plastics just has me longing for the new guard stuff!

The metal hound looks interesting, if you could find a way to break up the metal bits it could get really good!

Post by: Llamahead

These are all very nice. I reckon I might have to give it a go myself. Personally with the metallic wolf i'd have been tempted to paint the skeleton metal and leave the fur grey. Could make a cyber-mastif for somebody as well. The breacher guy looks good. I'm much more impressed with the finished article than I thought I would be. Great concept liked the infiltration game to.

Still on the board. I´m currently waiting for FW bits, and have been for three weeks... :S

Until it arrives, I´m keeping busy with other projects, like my truescale blood angels, and the shadowsword.
I´ll put some pics up in the regular P&M forum at some point.

Not to worry though, the transport is still on my table.

Thanks for the good comments people.

Defcon 56, I really like the models you picked, particularly the fighter. Look very hardcore. Regarding the possibility of having a team lead by an interrogator, he may be so far on in his training that he is working alongside the inquisitor with his own team and such. Or that he got separated from the inquisitor somehow and hasn't had time to report back to the ordos yet.
Spoiler from Ravenor Rogue below! (it has to do with this discussion)
Spoiler:
Thonius takes charge when Ravenor dies, deciding what the team should do, etc. This indicates that an interrogator "inherits" the people that were working for his inquisitor, should said inquisitor die.

In any case, I think that having an interrogator leader should work. Also, the paint job on the shield looks absolutely marvelous.

Xanthos, you can always rely on your little sister to come pester you when needed. ^^

Ok, so I'm working on my retinue and on some fluffiness.

I wanted to see if anyone knows what a Scalie, (from the Outlanders) might look like.
I have a couple of ideas about how they look like, and I have drawn some sketches, but I can't really find anything good on the internet. Does anyone know anything about them???

"I wanted to see if anyone knows what a Scalie, (from the Outlanders) might look like. "

There's a picture of one on the GW site (Linky)
Large scaly fellow, second from the right at the top =D

But my sense of them is really that they're just large mutant brutes.

Thanks for that, I hadn't seen that before.

I have bought a set of Saurus Warriors, from Lizardmen, and I will probably make something from those.

They are probably going to look like some bulked up Lizardmen that have armor and stuff.

c&c is always welcome.

Keep it coming!

I had some spare time this weekend, so I had time to work on my Juve. I still intend to add a bunch of details. Among other things I want to have some sort of logo on the back of her coat and she has sunglasses in her front pocket which I still need to paint. She is standing on a crate full of grenades in a pile of gritty ashes or something. This is my first attempt at NMM, so please note the metal on the crate and her gun. Also my first attempt at NMM rust. Without further ado: Alyx.

And so you can see the size of the model:

Any C&C appreciated. ^^
Also, any ideas for the logo on the back of her coat? She's a part of the crew of a rogue trader, and I think she's a latent psy, though I haven't explored the rules-effects of that yet.

Wow, she's really cool! What range is that model from? And the crate of grenades?

Perhaps you could take some pics from the side, so we can see the NMM pistol a little better?

Thanks for the good comments. =)

Indeed the model is from Hasslefree miniatures. As for the grenade crate, I have absolutely no clue. It came from the bit box of one of my friends where it had been resting for years, biding its time.
I'll get some more pictures up after I get more details done, and I'll make sure that the pistol is more visible then.

Edit: I moved the pictures and most of the descriptive text to another thread, since I'd like her to get more exposure, seeing as the pages changed right after I posted this. =P
IN short, the idea is: I have searched all over for a good female model for my leader, but I couldn't find any that suited her perfectly. So I figured I'd try my hand at building one. She's made entirely out of gs, apart from her weapons and head.
The link below is to the thread with more pictures
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/234586.page#634971
Below is the most recent picture of the model.

Now, this is my first attempt at building anything, so c&c is welcome. I know her arms are a bit long and her hands a bit big, but I don't think I can sculpt my own hands yet. Reply here or in the other thread as you feel like, I check both regularly. ^^

Umm...... Wow! I´m totally impressed that you just went and sculpted a model from GS. Looks very good so far, Just needs more detail work, and if you can get it, armor and other hard dged details amde from brown or grey stuff.

You just made my day.

------ Campaign Fluff and stuff ------

Right, I think it´s time to get back into campaign mode.

Firstly, a challenge to those players involved. Your gang will need transportation this summer, in form of both a interplanetary vessel (BFG scale) and a dropship or other planetary transport (Aeronautica scale).

To clarify a bit, these do not need to be hugely detailed (though it never hurts if they are), but they need to be thecorrect size, and if possible, say a little about your gang.

For example, when looking at planetside transport, a marine Thunderhawk is about 10cm long, and is probably on the bigger end of what should be constructed. and at the other end, a ship below 4cm length would be the minimum.

So a player with strong Marine or Inquisition ties might use a thunderhawk, someone with Tau contacts could go with a Tau transporter, and otheres could use Valkyries or such like, or for maximum "hobby´ness" design your own!

Same goes for spaceships, the size of the ship is not hugely important, but how you choose to go about the task of building/getting it, is. Fluff is your friend here.

Thanks guys, of course she isn't finished yet, I still have loads of details to add and creases to smooth over and all that, but I was hoping to receive some ideas and tips before painting it, and the rate at which this project is advancing, I figured it best to get some pictures up sooner rather than later.
I haven't even begun sculpting onto the head or anything, and she hasn't received any gadgets or doohickeys yet. =P
Rest assured that further updates are brewing.

I don't currently have access to any brown or gray stuff, but I intend to try and do the best I can with green stuff in stead. I actually let it rest for several hours in between each stage, to make sure that I don't ruin any old details when I add new ones.

Xanthos, do you have any specific suggestions regarding the armor? On paper she is wearing a flak vest, but so far the model is wearing a reinforced body glove and a greatcoat. I'm thinking of adding thigh armor pads similar to the abdominal armor segment, but I'm not sure how that would come out. Any suggestions?

I love the sound of that challenge Xanthos! Making transports should be excellent fun.

Xan´s =I=Munda Campaign: Of Dark Places and Shady Characters @ 2009/03/26 19:42:14

Post by: Xanthos

I would suggest letting the greenstuff sit for at least fifteen minutes before working with it, if you want hard edges. This way, the GS will be abit harder when you actually sculpt it.

Patience is the greatest virtue when using GS.

Your plans for a reinforced body glove sound good, thigh armor pads with criss cross lines would look good I think, sorta like the look of Van Saar gangers. As for the greatcoat, you could add a belt, and throw lots of gear and grenades on there.

This will both help conceal any small mistakes, and add detail to the model.

As for hands, try having a look at either imperial guard or other such hands, and exchange them for the marine hands. Or make the wrist bigger and give her a bionic hand.

Ooh, use "Elephant Gum" to dry fit parts.

I´ve started on my planetary transport, I´m using some aeronautica wings and plasticard right now, will keep you posted.

So I have started on the Scalie, and I think it's going fine.

First picture, is the parts that I have chosen to build my scalie from. The start-up body is from a Warhammer Lizardmen Saurus Warrior. The arms are from the Kroots.

Second picture, is the first stage of gs. Bulking up the arms and the chest is proving to be harder than I would have thought, but I am hoping for better results on the second stage. Detail is not so visible, but hopefully I will have better camera quality tomorrow. I will probably also get the upper part of the chest cleared up.

C&C always welcome.

I think this is a great idea.
I like the parts you chose. The combination of kroot and lizardmen should be fun. Will the scalie be wearing clothes or equipment of some sort, and have you thought of a color scheme yet?
I found a great sculpting tutorial yesterday. It's called "The Art of Miniature Sculpting", and should be easy to find with google. It's a PDF, and has some really good advice.
About bulking up the arms, I recommend looking at drawings and sketches of proportions. The guide has some illustrations in it, but da Vinci's vetruvian man should also be perfect for this. =P
Of course, on a mini, it is very popular to skew the proportions when bulking, but the sketches and such are still a good base for comparison.

Love this thread guys! Any chance of a Battle Report sometime soon? :]

The mixture of Kroot and Lizardmen for Scalies is a great idea! You could have a whole tribe very easily! If you have more time, you could try and make the face look a little more human looking, and bulk up the shoulders, to make it look more like the original Necromunda Scaly. But of course Scalies are a very unstable sub species, and so more reptilian ones are already accounted for! :]

If you make any more of these, I think the Scaly special weapons like the Spear Gun and Scatter Cannon, would be great fun to convert!

Sorry guys! I have no pictures because partly, my camera has no juice, and partly, I haven't done anything worth taking pictures of.

Gerbrith: I don't actually know if he will be wearing clothes. I was thinking some kind of armor that overlaps, where there are no scales. I was thinking a mixture of dark blue, purple and red for a scheme. Don't really have a full sketch yet, but I am working on it.
Oh! and thank you, that PDF will probably be a lot of help.

Bottle: Yeah I've been thinking about the face and the whole sub-species thing, but I will probably just take the normal head for Lizardmen. At least for now, as my gs'ing skills are not that developed. I actually didn't think about it, but yeah, a whole tribe of these guys would be really cool.
I don't think there will be any battle rep's be, before summer, unless the arbitrator wants to take the battle with me, that we didn't have time for at christmas, on Easter. Hopefully I can persuade him.

Update from the realms of further gaming!

It seems that we will indeed have at least one game played over easter, so battlereps are quite a possibility.

Also, as you may have read, we´ll be expanding the campaign with a few of the other rulesets, and to get that going I´ve gone and bought a pair of Mechanicus Light cruisers. Excellent kits, that I intend to use for BFG. On which side? We´ll have to see about that....

In addition to this, I stumbled over some most excellent Mechanicus looking models in my FLGS last time I was in there. They´re from Micro Art Studios in Poland, and look very creepy and such, so I had to have them, as the hunt for the Tech Magos goes on in our campaign.

I´ll be doing a lot of painting over easter as well, so further updates will be forthcoming soon(ish).

Oh, in other news, I´m still waiting on bits for my repressor, so that project is on the back burner until FW deliver.... :S

Captain.Gordino, Rabbit_Hole and Typhus: Thanks, glad to hear you like the stuff

Adamsouza: It´s basically a variant of necromunda.

In short, the changes are:
The gang can start with all weapons, not limited to starting lists.
Your gang leader starts with 2 (or 3) wounds, representing the fact that he´s a tough old b*stard.
Extra weapons are added.
Extra gang member types are added. (Eldar rangers, Ogryns, Kroot, Tau, Assasins, Marines)
A strong narrative theme is added.
Extensive remodeling of gang members, as evidenced by the =I=Munda threads.

Hope that helps.

Gaming update. April 9th.

Here´s the battle report from the battle between our two rogue trader warbands.

One of them the warband of rogue trader Reeta, played by gerbrith.
The other, sponsored by the Tau empire, is the warband of Leonard, played by Aurelion.

------------------------------------

Chapter Five, Epistolus Primus. “Skirmish at Factorum VII”

The two Rogue Traders meet in an abandoned factorum, on the outskirts of Jochun. The factorum was abandoned after a horrible fire tore through it two weeks ago. Leonard has found evidence pointing to this facility as the lab of Magus biologis Eduard Tchanus! Here, Leonard hopes to find the lost manuals of Magos Tchanus, which could potentially lead him closer to the source of this plague.
Reeta has had one of her techies intercept comms traffic however, and follows him in a battered landspeeder. Soon she spots his location, and heads into the abandoned factory stacks, her entire gang in tow.

Turn One
Reeta’s people split up, Scott and “Dac” move to provide covering fire, the juves Alyx and Tobyn, eager to prove themselves, take the shortest route toward the manuals, while Reeta, the Doc and Lark take the right flank through good cover to approach the objective more cautiously.
Scott catches the elevator up to the top floor, while “Dak” prepares his gun and goes into overwatch with a great view of the inner parts of the factorum.
Meanwhile, Leonard’s sniper heads towards the tallest building to get a good overview of the situation, the burly heavy quickly climbs up a steep staircase and rests his stubber on a railing, ready to rain mayhem upon anyone dumb enough to come into his sight. Leonard, the fearsome Ta’Pekk and another ganger head left around the outskirts of the factorum.
The rest of Leonard’s rogue traders head cautiously towards the objective.

Turn Two
Lark and the doc climb to the second floor of a building, and passing by a broken window, the doc spots three hostiles moving towards Reeta!
Reeta, oblivious of the imminent danger facing her, moves on her own under a bridge towards what looks like an open staircase to the second floor of the building where the manuals should be hidden.
The sniper climbs up, dodging the rain of bullets sent his way by “Dak”s autocannon, and readies his gun.
The elevator reaches the top of the tower, the muzak stops, and Lark walks into position, bringing his lasgun to bear on the sniper, who is just adjusting his aim on “Dak”. The zap of the lasgun glances the sniper, knocking him off balance and pinning him in place. Meantime, the stubber hits “Dak”, the kick of it throwing him backwards off the platform and knocking him out of action.
On the other side, The doc gets a shot of, hitting Ta’Pekk, who shrugs it off as a flesh wound. The Kroot, furious with bloodlust, shoots wildly at the area where the shot came from, but the gun swings more than intended and the blast hits Leonard in the back.

Turn Three
By this time, the juves have climbed a ladder, bringing them directly to the cache of manuals. Alyx picks them up immediately and is lost in a moment of awe. Tobyn spots the stubber, still whirring from the burst that took out “Dak”. The barrel wheels to aim at Alyx, and in desperation, Tobyn throws a grenade directly at it. The grenade bounces on the ground but strikes true. The heavy is down! (The stubber wielding brute had been so filled with glee that he hadn’t stopped firing until the ammo jammed in the gun. A panicky click-click meant that he had hardly noticed the juves before the grenade bounced out of view, then into view, then exploded in his face.)

Leonard sends Ta’Pekk a killing glare and brings his bolt gun to bear on the unfortunate medic in the window.
Ta’Pekk, angry with his failure, steps forwards to get a good shot at Reeta. He hits, pinning her.
Leonard’s gangers in the center move into view of the juves, one of them lobbing a frag grenade in their direction, the grenade flies onwards and swirves past the scared kids, exploding harmlessly behind them. Seeing the doc go down and hearing the triumphant shouts that the juves have secured the manuals, Reeta sounds the retreat, and they make off with the manuals, leaving the Factorum in Leonard’s victorious hands.

----------------------

So, three turns of gaming and Reeta´s crew scarper with the prized manuals of the Magos. These prove to contain numerous notes on the effects of this plague.

How it affects subjects in the first 48 hours.
That the magos has found, it can only be stopped by immediate amputation of affected limbs.
That death is agonizing and drawn out.

These manuals do not tell the complete story however. Large parts are missing or unreadable, burnt in the fire that tore through the complex some two weeks ago. It seems that more digging is required to find the source.

Leonard and his team go through the site in detail, and find that at the time of the fire, all of the lab machinery had been moved. They also locate a docking pier at a backwater trading post, where the Magos has apparently hired dockage space.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the hive...

Inquisitor Apollyon, finding that bodies had been removed from the hospital for burial in private cemetary grounds outside Darrak, takes his retinue with him, hoping to secure a specimen for his biochemists to examine.
The Kroot hunters, led by the fearful warrior Ch´Pekk, are on the hunt for some bodies here as well, though quite possibly for more unsavory ends.
The two parties happen upon each other while engaged in these activities, and a brutal fight erupts.

(More of this soon)

Great thread, class encounter reports and some fun modelling.

I couldnt help but think of XCOM 2 underwater suits with the initial breacher bright yellow, and my all time favourite item is a simple one;

The Bat - Kiss it.

Genius.

Also, you clearly have alot of naked Kroot running about without armoured plates..

Ah, finally! I was wondering if you had lost that report or forgotten all about it. There are pictures for that fight actually, though I am not entirely sure who has them =P

Shas'El Tael: Thanks, that's Alyx for you. She is such an excellent character, soon I won't be able to use her as cannon fodder anymore.

Nope, the report has been biding it´s time. Wanted to save it, so I could present it along with the other two from the arc. Now that the last game has been played, they´ll be coming up too.

Alyx is such a great model, fully fitting with the character that you built for her Gerbrith.

Heheh, my pilot is also becoming less of the bait he originally was...
He´s actually gotten a new model, way tougher than the old navy washout he used to be.
He now uses a silenced autogun and a fancy set of Khael Pattern Mk14C Infrared goggles with built in photovisor and rangefinder.

Will be getting pics up as soon as I´m done painting him.

I do admire the progression you're applying to your characters. Be cool to see this more grizzled pilot figure.

The pilot is completed, apart from some work on his face.

I used liquid mask on his base and the signpost on it, to get the rust effects underneath the painted surfaces.
First, I painted the rust, my usual four colour progression, starting from dark flesh and ending on Macharius Solar orange.

I then painted the sign, including weathering and text. I also painted the base, with transfers and weathering.

After this, I removed the liquid mask, using a cotton swab, and plastic tools, to avoid damaging the paint underneath.

The finished base looks something like this, the sign looks quite battered and beaten, but still mostly legible.

Finally, some more pictures of the completed pilot. His new look is a lot darker, he´s more grizzled and has gotten more equipment. Also, he has gotten quite skilled with his autorifle, and has gotten himself a silencer for it.

His gun is a converted lasgun, with an attached understock from a boltgun, a scratchbuilt handrail, and the silencer of course.

He is standing underneath this warning sign onboard an imperial starship, with attached emergency lighting.

As you can see, the back of the sign has also been extensively weathered, using both inks, and the liquid mask technique.

A closeup of his back, showing the sign of the inquisition on his shoulder guard, and his equipment pack. The =I= sign is from a sheet of Forgeworld´s etched brass.

His armour was painted with chaos black, and I added some Vallejo metallic medium to get a bit of shine. His rifle, in contrast, was painted black, and given sparing highlights upto dark grey.

I´m happy with how he turned out, he´s got a bit of grizzled veteran over him now, looks as if he´s seen his share of fighting.

Very nice man, the pilot looks one serious operator now. Does he have a dinner suit back in the flyer?

The autogun is a nicely modded piece, the overall look of the model is quite a progression from his early days.

The sequence of painting the sign etc was very interesting, picked up a few good ideas from that! thanks

Personally, I'm glad this pilot is getting real nasty, last one in the party I want to see dead is the guy who could fly us out of the mess

Why of course he does.

The basic Idea of the autogun came from a pulse rifle conversion i saw elsewhere on the web, but this one ended up quite different.

I was hoping that the mini tutorial was useful. I used vallejo´s Liquid Mask for it, starting to love that product.

Next up will be the two armsmen that I started ages ago, who will be getting paint and scenic bases.

After that, I think I´ll be in the mood to paint the elusive Tech Magos. Need something over the top and ostentatious after all this grimdark. :p

Chapter Five, Epistolus Tertius. “Graverobbing”

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Mission information:
This mission is a gang fight, between the Xeno Mercenaries of PrOtOCoN, and the Inquisition operatives of Apollyon.
The fight takes place in an underground burial complex, where six markers will show the locations of recent graves, that may contain a plague victim.
For each grave, on a 4+ the corpse will be a plague victim, and thusly an objective. A gang needs one of these, and after finding it, they may move to their own deployment zone to end the game.

Any unit carrying a corpse moves only 3” instead of 4”, and runs 6” instead of 8”.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Coming in through the southern entrance, Apollyon looked around him in the darkened sepulchre. In this facility, the high and mighty of Sarum were interred after death. His thoughts darkened as he looked out across the bleak landscape, the entire facility deep underground.

- - -

After planetwide orders were given to have all plague victims incinerated, the aristocracy have been defying them, claiming that these dead are ”a part of their historyand cannot be destroyed”. A reckoning will be had, to be sure, already patrols of Arbites are en route so several mansions in the outskirts of Darrak.

Even so, this defiance had given Apollyon an idea. Since these were the only bodies not immediately destroyed, if he could find one that had only recently been put here, he might be able to bring it aboard his ship for examination. Certainly the augurs and medicae of the Mechanicus could find what the local morticians had missed.

- - -

Spreading his team out, he started his internal scanners, looking for the recently covered tombs, and spotting half a dozen potential sites.
However, he also spotted something else on the scanners. Lifeforms, and though they were humanoid in shape, their biometrics read them as definite Xenos species. Damned Xenos in this hallowed place, he would not stand for it. ”All units, Xenos spotted, prepare for combat. Servitors, go to combat protocol Gamma-17”

- - -

Across the hall, the Kroot Ch´Pekk stopped and raised himself to his full height, sniffing the air. He had just caught the scents of human-flesh, and not dead ones, living specimens of some power. Though their was some disturbing scent lingering here also, he knew that the human-flesh used many strange and outlandish methods to preserve their dead.

If only they knew how much wisdom and strength was wasted by them, throwing out prime genetic material like it was bones and scraps.

He called out to his hunters. ”The human-flesh approaches. Let them not disturb our mission! Remember what the Castes ordered, find the source of this sickness, and destroy it.” His warriors acknowledged his orders, the slow and purposeful Kurtz looking pleased at the prospect of more ´eadbashing.

- - -

For the first couple of minutes the groups moved silently through the shadows, each trying to outwit the other, each waiting for good sightings of the other side. Going through a culvert in the bottom of the complex, Servitor E3-D spotted movement ahead.
Conferring with onboard mapping functions quickly confirmed that no friendly units should be there, and combat protocols were loaded. As the servitor geared up for combat, Inquisitor Apollyon noticed, and moved in to support. Mean while, other servitor units were pulling up the final slabs of rockrete covering one of the potential grave sites.

- - -

The hunt was on! Lo´Mon, the Kroot Juve felt the sharp excitement of the hunt, the smells and sounds around him heightened by the stimms in his system. He would slay the flesh-things and have much honor from eating their flesh.

He moved silently through this odd place, the steel and rock around him still feeling strange, compared to being outside. This place appeared to have nothing but rock and steel, no wonder the humans were weak!

Let the others dig for corpses, he would taste blood today, and destroy his enemies!

Suddenly he saw lights up ahead. The unmistakeable scent of humans was mixed with other smells, oil and steel, but he could feel the presence of his foes, and advanced quickly, giving a fearsome warcry.

- - -

The servitor, preparing for combat, found that the adversary was advancing. Raising it´s weaponised arms, it was immediately ready for combat. The two fighters clashed, and fought bitterly, both sides now moving in to support their fighters. Apollyon ran towards the combat, and spotted a burly Ork alongside a kroot, fighting his servitors. He had always suspected that the foul Xenos would ally with each other, and here was the proof!

Shouting an admonition of detestation, he got ready to charge.

- - -

Although it took him awhile, Shas’ui Kel’shan was getting the grave opened. He looked into the darkness beyond, and saw that there lay a human corpse, preserved by the cold. A swipe of his biometric scanner, and he got a confirmation, this body had an unknown viral infestation. He called the human, Armin Reetho, and told him to carry this away.
- - -

After a short but bloody combat, Lo´Mon was victorious! True, he had not fought alone, but he had defeated both of these flesh-things. Even so, the victory felt hollow. Now that they were defeated, there was no strength in these mechanised bodies. His leader, the mighty Ch´Pekk approached.

”We must finish our task quickly, soon the humans will be here in force. Kel´Shan and the human have found a viable body, defend it!”
Ch´Pekk stopped.

There was that smell again, much stronger now, he could not identify it, but it smelled like trouble. He looked around, and saw only the bleak landscape of the sepulchre, the darkened corridors of tombs, the open grave in the middle of the courtyard... Who had opened that one? Not one of his, he was certain!
Suddenly he saw it, close to the walls, feeling its way and moving with an unnatural loping gait. One of the human-things moved, though it was dead! Bringing up his flamer, he covered it with seething promethium, and it staggered and fell. Calling to his kin, he quickly confirmed that more of these things were closing in around them.

- - -

As he readied his boltgun, Apollyon found that more targets were emerging from the shadows. Many more. He realized after a quick bioscan, that these decaying things must be why the Xeno were here. They meant to infect the Imperium of man with some foul Zombie-Plague! ”Not on my watch, Xeno scum” he muttered, and placed a bolt round in the chest of the nearest Kroot.

”Sir, we have multiple hostiles closing in, your orders?” Shouted one of his PDF troopers. ”Fall back, protect the servitor with the cargo, don´t let them box us in!” He voxed back.

- - -

Ch´Pekk was furious. His youngling had been shot down from behind, even as they defended themselves from these dead things. ”Bring the corpse out of here, my hunters, I must tread the path of vengeance!”
He started threading his way through the dungeon, following the human who had shot Lo´Mon, and avoiding the dead things.

- - -

Apollyon was getting worried. His men were fighting well, but even though they were putting out an enormous amount of damage, the zombies still came on. Most alarmingly, they even stood back up after receiving wounds that would have killed a man twice over.

Still, he was getting closer to the exit, and his men still had the infected corpse with them, now securely packed onto a stasis gurney that had been brought for the purpose. He saw a zombie closing on him, and put a bolt between it´s eyes, and muttered a hasty prayer that this one would stay down.

- - -

Ch´Pekk had reached the higher gantries now, using his grapnel to move between the upper stories of the mausoleums. He could hear the bark of the humans talking to each other, see the flashes from their automatic weapons, and smell the stench of the one who had so coldly cut down his kin.

Even as he swung down to a platform overlooking the southern entrance, he saw the humans make good their escape, with the zombies closing in around the doorway. He knew there was no way that he could bring them to justice now, the dead things were blocking him.

He had no choice now, but to follow his hunters, and make good his escape from this accursed place. Picking up the body of his kinsman, he felt life within it, but only barely. Howling, he made an oath. He would find this human again, and he would destroy him!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

So, following this battle, the Kroot and the Inquisition each made off with bodies, the kroot suffered slightly more casualties, and somewhat of a feud has developed between the two leaders. Excellent stuff, and looks like the summer will be interesting, with further games coming.

It looks more and more like the shadowy Mechanicus Magos knows something, he has left Sarun however, and our gangs will have to find him, if they want more answers.

One more battlerep to come still, will write it as the modd strikes me. Hoped you enjoyed this one.

On a modeling note, I´ve started on converting some designs from the cardboard necro buildings into plasticard, not too much to show yet, but I´m hopeful that I´ll be able to do it.

Also, the bits for my repressor have arrived! Yay!

Teaser for the next battlerep:

Chapter Five, Epistolus Secundus. “Standoff in Stack 34”
Sigismund and his crew have deducted, that the answer to this plague must be found on the Ranus XVI Facility, orbiting the second moon of planet Tomish, close to the galactic edge. Here they hope to find Tech Magos Tchanus.
While preparing to leave, they suddenly run into the forces of Brother Marine Grimaldus! A shoot out erupts, even as the city is being torn apart by zombie mobs. They must escape to the landing gantries, where an air lifter is en route, to transport them off planet.

Thanks for the comments, I tried to get into the feeing of telling the story, rather than exactly "who shot who" and such. Also, I tried to get the feelings across, the fear, the anger, and the mindnumbing dread of almost being eaten by zombies.

Okay, another bit of fluff for you all, this one is an astropathic missive from my Inquisitor to the Ordo HQ.

This serves to give more information about what is happening because of the investigations of the gangs. Mostly for the players, but some people here may also find it enjoyable, so here you go.

-----------------------------------------------------------

REF: Inq/537+63742497824526
ASTROPATHIC DUCT: Astropath Terminus Iacobos Mal
AUTHOR: Inquisitor Sigismund
SUBJECT: Plague Outbreaks on Sarum
RECIPIENT: Lord Inquisitor Dione Bellier

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: That is not dead, which can eternal lie.

+++My lord, I call upon you with great urgency. In relevance to the ongoing investigations at planet Sarum, I have found that this outbreak is far worse than we first expected. The plague itself continues to take a great toll on Sarum. My agents have concluded, that it is not as viral as the outbreak of ”P4X-Gamma5” recorded in the subsector eight years ago, but it´s lethality is far greater, and no medicine seems to work, once the body is infected.

The investigations of the medicae on Sarum have led us to some key points in regards to the plague.

1) The virus seems to attack all age groups, and at all levels of society

2) The virus is nearly 100% lethal.

3) The addition of high level irregulants into the bloodstream gives a level of immunity, though this must be maintaned daily, and has unpleasant side effects.

4) One medicae has speculated that the virus is artificial in nature, and claims that it bears signs of being engineered by Imperial technology. We have effectively supressed this rumour, and made clear that this is not an acceptable line of inquiry.

5) Contact has been made with other groups chasing the artifact. These include additional agents of the Inquisition, Including one Appolyon <see enclosed pict files and documents 537/01-537/04>, and at least one group funded by the Astartes.

6) My team has found evidence that leads us to the planet Tomish, and a facility orbiting it´s second moon. I will send a group of my agents to investigate further, while I personally deliver a full report of the situation to the Conclave at Thracian Primaris.

7) Following these revelations, I have sent a general astropathic missive to the Astartes, requesting their support in this matter. The first to answer the call were the Blood Angels, who have granted a Frigate bearing a squad of marines, to assist in unraveling the case.

8) Working with the local ordo representatives, programs of incineration have been launched on Sarum and nearby planets, and several cities and townships have been burnt already. The list grows daily.

In conclusion, I hope to reach primaris shortly after Primarch´s Mass, and certainly within two months. If I do not, please take appropriate actions, and make sure that this horrible threat is stopped.

Praise the Emperor, may his light guide our actions.

Signed, Inquisitor Sigismund, Ordo Xenos

Still working on the final battlerep, it´s taking some time, but I´m having fun with it.

I´ve been doing some test pieces for plasticard terrain and towers to use in the campaign, so far a bridge and a platform are ready for the "Rivets and junk" stage, but first I need to make about a hundred rivets... Here are some shots of where they are now, these are very WIP, but should give you an idea of what I´m aiming for.

Awesome WIP shots Xanthos!
I don't know if you already use it, but I found this tool to be very handy to make plasticard rivets

It's a leather hole punch, find one with the right size hole puncher and clip away! Posted it just in case you're using some other more time consuming method =D

Yup, that´s what I use as well. Mine is just getting a bit worn, so sometimes it chokes on the rivets while I´m punching them, and I have to use a needle to get them out of there... :S

@CMDante and Malika: Go for it guys! It takes some time, but the terrain is big enough that I can do it while watchong movies, don´t need fancy lighting or anything. The riveting in particular, is a time consuming activity, but does not demand that much attention, so I do it while watching TV.

Dante & Malika: what he said...

Xanthos: Looks like a good start. Nice touch with the open section over the tubing. I'll have to "acquire" that idea...
I see you are following the old necromunda cardboards as a template. Will you keep every floor and bulkhead separate and modular, or will you glue the individual buildings together?
There was an article (or series of articles) about building Inquisitor terrain in either the White Dwarf or Inquisitor/fanatic magazine. It may have some use for you, I'll see if I can find it somewhere...

Xan´s =I=Munda Campaign: Of Dark Places and Shady Characters @ 2009/04/20 22:39:17

Post by: Xanthos

Thanks man.

I´m following the old templates for a bit, going to transform some of the designs from there just for fun. But I´ll be staying away from duplicates, I want each floor to be unique.

As far as modular or not, I seriously hope I can make it modular. I am studying in Denmark, but travel back home every summer and winter, and would want to bring this stuff with me.
That being said, if I can´t find a way to make it modular, I´ll settle for gluing them together, but it´s definately not what I´m planning at this point.

I´d like to see that article. I think I have one or two of the magazines, but they´re in storage (in another country!) at the moment... Would be excellent if you have it handy.

Edit: Forgot to mention. The picture with the signature for my battlereport has disappeared. I mean actually disappeared from my gallery on Dakka. Has that happened to anyone else?

Also, I finished riveting one side of the bridge while watching an episode of Firefly. So 34 rivets, punched and glued down in forty minutes... Not too bad I think.

This is looking great! Portable terrain is particularly handy when one has to travel much between where one lives and where one plays. Some day, Protocon and I will have to make a set of portable terrain pieces. So far, all of our stuff is fairly bulky and pretty tricky to transport without ample space in the back of a car. (We don't have a car, and most of our travels are by plane, so even if we did have one, the car wouldn't do much good.) =P

How did you solve the "supporting struts problem"? I mean, the hard pieces of plastic that hold the floors up?

Xan´s =I=Munda Campaign: Of Dark Places and Shady Characters @ 2009/04/21 12:32:55

Post by: Xanthos

Well, so far I´m using thick enough plasticard that it hasn´t been a problem with the platform I made. As for the bridge, It actually has some rather fancy supports underneath, square tubing crosswise, and then I beams lengthwise.

I´ll get some piccies of that when I post pictures of the bridge after riveting is done.

Still need to figure out the precise design for the vertical bits of these buildings...

You might want to fillet those pipes before you paint them. It will give a more industrial look to them rather than just like that it looks unfinished and plasstruct make pipe joins and flanges if that helps.

I´ll be making it compatible with ye olde buildings, but I´ll have to make my own bulkheads, or at least that´s what it looks ike for now.

At the moment I´m looking at making them from CoD frames, with ladders from plastruct. I think I´ll be making some that have stars instead of ladders, and maybe a proppa elevator too

Anyways, I threw some paint on the firt bridge, just some mechrite red and some washing and drybrushing so far, still needs something more to make it right. Also include a pic with the detachable railing, I plan to have these all over the place, and use them on high level bridges.

very very nice work. I do like the weathering.. and a railing in 40k? since when was OHS a concern in Necromunda???

That Mechrite Red is a very nice colour indeed.. I think I might wander to GW and check a few out.

Great update, a very cool sign of things to come..

Thanks for the kind words, The railings were a spur of the moment idea. I´m considering them as an alternative to the initiative roll for falling over.

I was thinking a roll of 2D6 against S + T. You have to roll over, or you cold fall. So for a small weak person, letting the railing catch you is good, but for someone with high S and T, it´s probably no good...

Yes, this is hopefully the first step on the way to some better and cooler terrain.

Xan, I don't think I ever got around to commenting on your log, but you're one of the founders (heck, your log is in the master material log!) so I must commend you for the effort you've put into =I=.

That bridge is incredible! The paintjob is simple but quite effective as well. I'm looking forward to the terrain you're working on.

Oh that red looks good! For some reason that piece makes me think of that final battle in Terminator 2 in the steel factory!

Post by: Xanthos

Hey, thanks for the comments guys, Th red struck me as being the right thing here. I wanted to move away from the colors in the original card buildings, and this red seemed very industrial and such.

Funny thing, your little comment about the steelworks in Terminator 2 have inspired me a lot Malika. You have a tendencty to do this, and it´s great!

In other news, the final battle report from the first half of our campaign is ready. It got to be rather long, (5-6 A4 pages) so I´m considering possibly making a battlerep thread, and just linking to it from here.

What do you guys think, is it better to keep everything together in one thread, or will a block of backstory like that detract from the whole?

You're gonna be watching Terminator against aren't you?

Can't wait to see the new one!

So what is this terrain going to be? A city? Space Hulk?

Yup, going to watch it tomorrow in fact, can´t help myself.

It´s definately still going to be a city, but possibly with some terrain inspiration from a certain steel plant...

I decided to just post the battle rep.

It is quite long, but I hope you will find it worth the read.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

++++++++++++++++++++++

This mission is a shootout, following the standard rules from the necromunda rulebook. The only additions are possible arriving zombie mobs, and the rules for escaping the battlefield.

Zombie Mobs: Zombie mobs may show up on any turn after the shootout erupts. Do not roll for them during the build-up, but after the shootout starts, roll a D6 every turn, and they appear on a 4+.

Escape: The gangs can escape only one way. By being airlifted out. Every turn after the Zombies arrive, roll a D6. On a 5+, your lifter has arrived, on top of a random highrise.

After rolling the dice, it turned out that two members of the inquisitors mission team would square off against three from the Astartes group. Some more rolls, and we saw that the Voidborn and the pilot would be the Inquisitor´s men. And on the marine side, two scouts, one with a pistol and one with a lasgun, would be joined by the local tracker.

+++++++++++++++++++++++

”Look, we can´t leave here without a set, there´s no way I´ll find one out there.” Ronson, pilot for inquisitor Sigismund was getting angry. He´d been looking most of the morning, and still hadn´t found a merchant who traded in electronics of high enough quality.
”We can´t waste more time here, we´re already running late for the lifter and I don´t think Sigismund will hold off evac long for the two of us” came the stiff reply from De´Norio, long time spacer, and one of the most experienced members of the group.

They were slowly making their way through the streets of the upscale Delkins Heights, one of the few districts still not affected by the plague. Most of the people here were still going about their daily business, shopping, working, living.
But it wouldn´t last long, and De´Norio knew it. These were the last days for this continent, it would likely be purged in less than a week. The plague had gone so far, and moved so fast, that the only option left was that of evacuating and purging the entire western continent of Sarum Prime.

Ronson, seeing another electronics shop, moved through the crowd towards it. It was a small, unassuming shop, and he had low hopes of finding what he sought, but he would ask anyway.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

”Targets sighted, they are unaware. Your orders mylord?” asked the novitiate. He was, along with one of his brother initiates and the local guide they had hired, shadowing the two henchmen of Inquisitor Sigismund, or Gamma Three as he was codenamed in their mission statement.

”Stay on them, do not let them know you are following”, came the order from Brother Sergeant Grimaldus. For three days now, they had trawled the district with sniffer drones, looking for the geno signatures of Sigismund and his crew. And now they had a confirmed sighting, they wanted to make damned sure they did not lose them again. They needed to find the hideout of the Inquisitor, and somehow gain access to his cache of information.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

The merchant shook his head, and drummed his fingers on the table. ”Ain´t seen a proper infra-sight with magnification in years son.”
Ronson turned to leave, but the merchant called him back. ”I do have something that might interest you, a set of Khael Pattern Infrared goggles, as worn by the Sarum Third in their conquest of the night-moons of Khallidus. Will they do?”

Some fifteen minutes later, they were back on the street, with a set of Infragoggles and quite a bit less coin than before. The salesman had haggled well, almost as if he knew time was running out and he´d need the money.
As they headed for the rail terminal a trio of valkyries slowly passed by overhead. They were dropping flyers, that fell like leaves to the streets. De´Norio picked one up.

!!!General Evacuation Notice!!!

Attention citizens!
An order of general evacuation has been issued.
Please proceed immediately to the landing fields north of the city.
Do not bring belongings, they will not be allowed aboard the transports!
Do not attempt to leave the city by any other route than the northern viaducts.
Any person found in the southern frontier zone after 1800 SST will be fired upon.

!!!General Evacuation Notice!!!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

The tracker looked at the two novice brothers. ”Oh damn, this certainly changes our priorities, now what?”
”Now, we get on with the mission, and follow our orders” replied the scout, seeming as confident as ever. Even as people around them were rushing away, trampling each other in their hurry to get away, the scouts moved down the streets.

They spotted their targets further down the street, apparently deep in discussion. Voxing brother sergeant Grimaldus, they requested further orders. ”Sir, we have them in sight, but the Evac order has gone public. Your command?”
”Do not let them escape, we need those data logs.”
”Aye sir´, replied the novitiate, ´we´ll detain them if they attempt to escape.”

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

”Uh oh... That looks like trouble.” Ronson pointed down the street, looking grim. He had spotted a small group of people who weren´t running, looking their way. ”We have to face this, can´t let them follow us, you know the old man will have our hides if we do.”
They turned to face their stalkers, hands on their holsters. If at all possible, they weren´t going to be the first to open fire.

The streets of the shopping arcade were clearing, and there was no doubt that they were in trouble.

Not only were they outnumbered, they were also outgunned, and to make matters worse, the heavy void armor that De´Norio was wearing would slow them down in case they needed to run for it.

The two groups slowly closed in on each other, staying close to cover. As they closed, he started noting details about these troublemakers that seemed strange for gangers or even a hammer muscle squad.

Firstly, the armor and gear worn by two of the guys was exquisite, far beyond the means of a regular muscle jock.
Secondly, all three of the goons were hefting las weapons of imperial make.
That in itself was not unusual, but the fact that they seemed to be offworld make, not the standard 12-77 type las weapons, was also alarming.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

The two scouts stalked closer, followed by the grizzled tracker they had hired for their stint on Sarum. He seemed worried, but as far as the scouts were considerd, the odds were with them. They had numbers, and more firepower.

The inquisitorial agents looked twitchy. The younger one in the flight jacket seemed ready to snap at any moment. ”Keep an eye on that one, Novitiate. If he makes a move, take him out.”

One of their adversaries was wearing a heavy void suit. That was the only thing worrying Initiate Jones. Everything else was in their favor, but they had nothing that was certain to deal with the heavy armored carapace of the suit.

Charging their las weapons, they covered the two operatives facing them, and prepared to lay them out.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

”Oh frack, this is it!” Cried Ronson. Stil a flyboy at heart, he had no wish to be involved in another gunfight, he was much more at home behind the stick of a antigrav fighter or dropship. He saw one of the adeptus scouts move into a firing stance and brought his pistol up, lightning fast.

Squeezing of a tight burst of shots, he broke into a run, heading towards the nearest cover, a storage container in front of a junker shop. As he ran, he saw De´Norio aim his hefty shotgun and loading one of his special ”Zapper” rounds.

The scouts were all over him. Not having the speed of his comrade at arms, he braced himself and lcoked the protective plating for combat. He than loaded a Zapper round, high power and armor penetrating, and aimed for the nearest target, the local tracker that the astartes had hired as support.

He fired the round, feeling the kick of his oversized breaching shotgun as it fired the huge charge. The tracker threw himself to the side, but the shot blew his pistol out of his hand, and the laspistol lay on the street, fizzing. One less to worry about.

The two scouts were putting an impressive amount of lasfire his way, but so far his armor was taking the few shots that hit him.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

A signal came through on the radio, from the marine assault ship in low orbit. ”Sir, I have multiple targets closing in from the south sir. They´re not pinging on my FF seeker, so they are likely to be hostiles. Possibly zombies.”

The two novices looked at each other. This was not good at all. The movement of these new targets indicated that they were moving to encircle them. They had forced the two inquisition agents to take cover, but the fight was degenerating into a shootout, with no clear way to take the initiative from their foes.

If they didn´t start moving, they´d be encircled in less than ten minutes. And from their briefs of the zombies, they did not have enough firepower to take them out. They needed to change tactics drastically.

”I´ve got a plan, but you´re not gonna like it boy.” He shouted across the street to his brother initiate. ”We need to ally with these bastards, at least until the dust settles!”

He ran further up the street, ducking into cover from the fire coming his way. ”Have you boys heard what´s coming? We need to pool our resources right now if we want to get out!”

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

”How do I know you will honour such an arrangement?” Shouted De´Norio.

As he looked on, the marine scout walked out into the street with his lasgun held low. ”If you feel you can´t trust us, now is your chance to get me.”

And as if on cue, the first zombies came into view.

Shambling towards the five warriors, they looked for all the world like something out of a cheap fiction-slate, but they were moving with a coordination that showed more foresight than the briefing had suggested was possible. And there were many of them.

”Move towards that highrise, I´ll call in our lander! Shouted De´Norio.

- - - - - - - - -

You had to hand it to these astartes, they were extremely well trained. And if only they had something with a higher caliber, they might have a hope of holding these zombies back. As it was, they were low on ammo, and there were too many of these reanimated bodies for them to handle. Far too many.

The zombies were closing in, even through the wall of fire that the five men were putting up, they were coming on. And the horrifying thing was, that most of them were getting back up, mere seconds after being shot down.
With the scouts covering his back, and De´Norio and the old tracker acting as the vanguard, Ronson was trying to reach the Inquisitor and request an emergency evac. But the radio frequencies were buzzing with thousands of orders and countermands, demanding withdrawal and ordering lines to be held, even as the city was burning around them. In the end, he set his short range radio to repeat, and hoped that his message would get through.

- - - - - - - - -

They had reached the second floor, and were still going up. But the zombies were still on them, climbing slowly but steadily up the ladders, and up the sides of the buildings, crawling across gangways. ”Grenade!” Shouted De´Norio, and armed his last frag.

He threw it across the decking, and it skittered to a halt at the top of the stairs they had come up. The zombies were packed in thick here, coming up the stairs to finish them. The grenade took out at least five, and threw the rest of them down the stairs. But the tracker suddenly shouted from up ahead.

Another group of zombies had moved up to flank them, and was crossing a gangway to box them in. ”I´ll hold them, you keep moving!” shouted the old man, brandishing his sword and grinning madly. He started walking onto the gangway, and drew a large woodsmans knife in his other hand. Swinging the sword, he chopped the first zombies leg off, and it fell over the side, smashing into the street below.

- - - - - - - - -

They were running now, moving towards the top of the roof on the highrise. The tracker was falling back, chopping at the zombies that were nearest as he backed towards the ladder. The inquisitors lander was zooming towards them at high speed, and they had lit a pair of rad-flares to guide the large ship in.

Below them, a shadow fell on the tracker from behind. A zombie launched itself at the old man from behind, taking a chunk out of his arm. He screamed as he was dragged down, but even as the dead ones were taking his life, he got even. Pulling out the primer cord on a tube charge in his belt, he muttered a line from the prayer ”Dei Imperii”. A huge explosion rocked the tower, sending the gangway and all the zombies on it to their doom.

The remaining four jumped onto the landing ramp of the bulky flyer, and they left the miserable scene behind them. This city was consigned to destructiom by cyclonic thermal bombs, and would be uninhabitable for a generation.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Aboard the old freighter, a short service was held. The hulking form of the black clad marine seemed even larger in the ships chapel, but his head was bowed. Even though the old man had not been a marine, he had served honorably, and had died a hero.

”We will of course share our knowledge with the honoured brothers of the Astartes” said inquisitor Sigismund. ”You will be granted access to our databanks, in return for the information you have gathered in your search for this evil.”

”The Black Templars thank you for your cooperation honored friend” growled the marine, looking down at the much shorter inquisitor. ”This fight is not over yet, we will seek those who caused this misery, and bring them to justice.”

”My next port of call will be the Inquisitorial conclave at Thracian Primaris, I must gather support for our endeavours here. My agents will head to the Tomish system, on the edge of the subsector. There they will seek the techpriest magos, and find his part in all of this.”

++++++++++++++++++++

And that´s it! The first half of this campaign is now done, and all the battle reps are posted. Now to prepare for the second half.

But first, I imagine some players will feel a need to modify their lineup, and prepare for the coming storm. I have a funny feeling that flame weapons will see a lot of action this summer...

Oooh, how do we revamp our lists? Any particular guidelines? Can we roll more than once on the list of what stuff is available? Do we get more credits? My leader could use some more gadgets, her model is a bit empty as is.
Has it been established how the plague spreads?

Fun docu-drama there

More entertaining than a turn by turn, you get a feel for the sides in this fight. Really enjoyed this one, thanks for taking the time to complete it in this fashion!

I particularly liked the attitude of the Voidwalker.

Wow, I guess this is how I´m doing battle reps for this campaign then! I´ll probably have some piccies thrown in for this summers fights, but I´ll keep them narrative.

@Modhail: Thank you, glad you liked it. The next thing I´m writing up will be a piece on the time between the action on Sarum Prime, and the campaign this summer.

@Mellon: Thank you! Great to hear that the style is about right.

@gerbrith: I have an idea that is pretty much done, but before I put stuff on Dakka, I want to talk it over with you guys. It will involve a chance to upgradfe your leaders somewhat, a chance to get new gang members, and/or switch out old ones.

The way the plague spreads..... Ahh yes... Yup. And nope, I´m not telling yet.

Also: Yes, the credit rating will be higher.

@Shas´El Tael: Heheh, I tried to get his character to come across as more grizzled than the pilot, stat wise they are actually very close, but I just feel that the model looks meaner. Of course, when we start gaming again, the pilot will use the newer model, and I may have to revise my opinions about him..

@smiling_assasin: Thanks for the comment, glad you liked it.

@grey_death: We were actually setting up the buildings for a battle when someone said "In the far future, there is only war! No handrails included!" And afterwards I decided that these bridges are getting them.

Glad to hear that my work may spark something off elsewhere, I love seeing the "back and forth" inspirational nature of dakka´s members.

In modeling news, I got a hold of the two command squad sets today. Wow. x5. Tonnes of combinations, including separate gasmasks in the cadian box, and more heads than you can shake a drenched cat at in both boxes.

Xan´s =I=Munda Campaign: Of Dark Places and Shady Characters @ 2009/04/28 10:42:56

Post by: Xanthos

Right, I´ve been having lots of fun with these command squad sets. So far I´ve made bits for a low tech ranger type guy that will be joining the inquisitor. I figure he´s probably PDF or such, and got caught up in the evac situation, eventually getting added to the inquisitors team.

Also, I converted my way to a cutting torch, with acet/oxy tanks and everything. Not sure yet, if this will be for a new gang member or simply an exercise in more civilian stuff.

As sets go, my first impression is that the command sets are great, but they lack in certain areas. For example, in the catachan set, three of the five torso+leg sets are single piece, which to me is a bit meh. And all the cadian special weapons are attached to arms, you don´t get enough left arms to use them all, and only one set of fuel tanks for two flamer type weapons...

That´s not to say that they´re bad, mind you. They´re still great, and include some very nice pieces, the gasmasks are truly inspired for example. I´ll put up pics later, for now I have to get back to studying.

Edit: apparently I can´t put sentences together anymore...

Xan have been following this thread and think both your minis and the fluff are fantastic looking forward to seeing more!

I also love how you added a few fairly simple rules to put a whole new twist on a bog standard Nec Scenario! Scenario cooking at its finest!

Thanks a bunch Stoneblood, I´m cracking away at some more terrain bits and pieces at the moment.

I (finally) got more compressed air for the airbrush, so I´ll be painting up the repressor soon, as well.

The scenario was loads of fun, and changing them with little add ons seems to be everyones thing in my group. So you can expect more of that.

I've been reading and studying for my exams, a lot. I'm having my last exam on the 16th but it is Latin, so it is a bit horrible.

Oh well.... to other important stuff.
I have made some exchanges in my gang. I'm basically making another gang, using one or two of my last outfit.

Here are some piccie's of the most interesting, at least in gaming and modeling wise, two guys of my new gang.

I would add a holster and belt of shells to the Psyker, maybe some gs'd details and things to make him fit more into the 40K universe.

It´s actually original Necromunda terrain, from when the game was originally released. Still holding up good, even though it´s seen a lot of use.

As far as I know, the plastic bulkheads are no longer made, but I have scans of the cardboard parts, if you want them.

Yeah, I need to get in on the Xeno microspecies game... So many good races have been seen on Dakka.

Anyways, I got some new toys today. My Paint Shapers came in the mail, and they are way too cool! So far I´m just testing out various things, but expect to see more GS´fu in the coming weeks.

Also, I´ve finished building one of the coming additions to my gang, an ex-IG jungle fighter with a heavy pistol and an axe.
He will be a native of the planet on which the summer campaign takes place, and will be medium/dark skinned. Also, he may get his own vehicle, a converted close combat walker.

I still need to find someone to replace my inquisitor...
And of course finishing two or three buildings...
Making two sets of adversary models...
Finishing the three bridges that I´m building...
Build at least three more bridges, preferably five...
Painting the Repressor...
Painting all the objective markers...

So, busy summer for me, how about you guys?

Here´s something I haven´t done in a while... Modeling update!

I´ve pretty much finished the jungle fighter. He is armed with a combat axe and a Urhaven M12 heavy pistol (still wip), and is wearing a respirator to help ward off those jungle germs. In addition, the jungle fighter carries a personal medikit and some pyro grenades.

His ride is also getting closer to completion, it´s a modified sentinel walker, shortened legs and redone outer structure, with an upgraded fuel storage for long patrols. Armed with a chainlance and a heavy autogun, it is able to fend off most natural predators, but not designed for frontline operations.

It still needs to be weighed down with some more gear, as well as possibly a scanner array.
I´ve positioned grip bars along the left leg of the machine, for entry to the cockpit.

Also, it may or may not be given a utility arm, part fork lift and part combat weapon.

As for the pilot, he´s in the works, but since his legs will be visible, I will have to remodel them to look more like jungle fighter legs and less like..... A farmer with ugly boots.

To do list:
Find someone to replace my inquisitor...
Build two or three buildings...
Build and paint two sets of adversary models...
Finish the three bridges that I´m building...
Build at least three more bridges, preferably five...
Paint the Repressor...
Paint all the objective markers...

For the record, the lizardman is actually from the new saurus warrior boxed set. His legs have been repositioned, and he has been given a much straighter pose, not hunched over like they usually are.

Also, some nice GS banded armor on the torso.

Not much work done today on the project, fiddled about with the design for the walker a bit.

After talking to one of my keenest (and respected) critics, I´ve more or less decided to get rid of the shield on the front of the rollcage. It does not "swing" with the feel of the model, I am told, and I rather agree.

Other than that, I´m still sculpting a greatcoat on a model, sort of Covenant style.. It´s a LOT easier to do detail work with these new tools, a thank you goes out to Migsula for pointing them out to me.

One more thing, as for the sentinels weapon, any thoughts on the chain lance?
Would a regular lance be better?
Or even some sort of energy lance?

All thoughts welcomed.

W00T, wonderful to see you updating this again...it's been very inspirational for me and my own projects!

IMHO, the lance looks too long and too...plain. That's the only word I've come up with so far. Maybe some kind of hydraulics to give it a piston-like effect instead of the Sentinel using it's own momentum to drive the lance into stuff. How would you model an energy lance, though?

Yay! Imunda lives once more!

The lizard comes out great Defcon! Very neat conversion work.

I like the jungle fighter quite a lot as well, his pose, and the general feel of the model is very cool. The walker idea is very neat. I was going to say something about that shield, but then you said it yourself. The lance is cool, but if you are thinking off making a utility arm, you may consider replacing the lance with it. The lance seems impractical in a jungle setting, especially if it's fixed in an extended position like that.
Remember that tank in Kelly's heroes that got defeated because the barrel of the gun was too long and it couldn't turn? Well... that comes to mind when I see that lance of yours, except with more trees and more frustration on the pilot's part.

Hi Gerbrith, yup it lives again.

A bit of an update from here:
The walker has been de-shield-afied, and looks rougher and more industrial-y than ever.
Also, I have added a pair of hydraulic pistons underneath the back portion of the lance, which should help give it a better feel. I´m considering extending the sword bit, so it´s more of a huge chainsword arm... How do you feel about that?
I´m thinking that it would be more in key with the jungle theme, and make the walker look more like an offensive weapon, rather than a charging knight, which is (I have to admit) rather useless in a jungle.

It´s funny that you should mention Kelly´s Heroes.. Oddball was a part of my inspiration for this character. Only..... More like an Oddball <-> Commando Type mix...

Hmm, still lots of sketches to draw up and bluetack to use on this guy.

In other news, I´m getting work done on the greatcoat guy, that may or may not end up as part of this gang.

Pictures soonish, but I want to have more progress before I put them up.

Xan´s =I=Munda Campaign: Of Dark Places and Shady Characters @ 2009/06/16 11:38:24

Post by: gerbrith

A huge chainsaw arm is radically more awesome than a lance, and will also be able to just massacre any tree that it bumps into. =)
That is an idea I can fully support. My disbelief is now thoroughly suspended once more.

Oddball-commando mix... So he's like a walker-obsessed, relaxed killing machine that likes to tell everyone to chill out and feel the vibe? I like it! I can picture him covered in blood and gore going "You're ruining the vibe man!"

Can't wait to see the greatcoat guy, and chatting here again is sort of kicking me into wanting to finish that gs leader of mine and get working on more stuff.

Muahahahhahhahh, my evil plan is working! Ahemm, I mean, oh that´s nice, glad to hear you are feeling inspired.

You nailed it with the Oddball-commando description, very good.

Got some pictures earlier, of the new huuuge chainsword, it is starting to come together, still figuring out what to do with the gun now, and the best way to make a shoulder for the arm.

Also, getting really hooked on the whole vehicle construction business, it is such great fun! I´m currently drawing up plans for two more vehicles, not sure who is gonna use them, but I just have to. Semi-inspired by some stuff from a comic called "Wake".

Thanks for the kind words guys, really helps to encourage me.

I´ve gotten some more work done on the walker, apart from some GS work it´s ready for baggage and quirks now. After some brainstorming with my sister, I will be adding some small fun details to the build, which may include fuzzy dice, cupholder, a dog, loads of bags and boxes of loot and other stuff.

At the moment some of this stuff is just tacked on. I´m considering paint schemes now, and the favorite for now is old industrial yellow (like you might see on industrial machinery), with some hasty camo painted on, and armor plates in rusted iron.

C&C welcome.

The positioning of the chainarm looks wrong. It interrupts the flow of the model. The position looks dynamic when the rest of the model looks static.

Xan´s =I=Munda Campaign: Of Dark Places and Shady Characters @ 2009/06/19 11:02:56

Post by: Xanthos

I see what you´re saying, there is a reason for this however. While I was experimenting with poses, I foun out that if I didn´t do something a bit dynamic with it, the joints in the shoulder wouldn´t be obvious.

In hindsight I wish I´d done the legs a bit more
dynamically. However, they´re stuck on pretty good, superglued to aluminum rod that threatens to snap if I try rearranging it... :S

I did some GS work last night, added hydraulics and such, and I think that tied it back into the more static look. I´ve also added additional hydraulic lines to the legs, coming from under the cockpit, to bring the theme home.

Have started on the baggage now, still considering gadgets and quirks...

Righto, painting time! Last night I gave the L.U.W. (Light Utility Walker) some basic Iyanden Darksun as a basecoat. This will be followed up with thin layers of progressively lighter yellows for the base construction parts. I will have only a very few metal bits, since it would not be practical to have bare metal exposed to jungle conditions.

I´ve tried to show some better angles of the hydraulics, so you can see where the hoses are connected. They will eventually be another color, possibly dark blue. Not shown here is the baggage and unit flag, which I´m painting separately.

Today I´ll be going out to try and find the right basis for my truck conversions, will probably make one first, and then do a second if it turns out good. I hope to have more progress pics tonight.

The armour plates should look less out of place after painting. The idea is that they´ve been added by the driver, and are not part of the original design, and they´ll be painted to show this.

At least, that´s my hope...

Heheh, I thought you´d never ask, Malika.

The reason for the yellow, is that originally (fluffwise), this machine was intended for use around an army base, keeping back the jungle, clearing the surroundings and doing maintenance (with other arm attachments).

But "Odd" Ando Coles decided to refit it for use in the jungle. He took what was essentially a construction vehicle, and bolted on the heavy stubber and armor plating. So while it will get some detail work in green to hide it somewhat, I first need the yellow of construction vehicles underneath.

Hope that explains the idea I have for the machine.

@abhorsen and Grot Boss: Thanks for the kind words guys, I´m really getting inspired by some comics that I´ve started reading through again, picked up some more bits today, including the ancient "Ork Wartrakk" kit, and am now looking at putting the first of two trucks together...

I still think the point is valid, how were you to know what I had planned?

Anyways, got some more painting done last night, and will pick it up again this evening, when it gets colder... Right now it´s so warm here that I absolutely HAVE to go out.

As it stands now, I am in the process of shading and highlighting the yellows. I want to be pretty much done with that before I decide on other colours.

Okay, getting closer to the finished article with the robot now!

I´ve got first and second layers of paint on everything except the hydraulics, and have started on weathering. So far, just paint chips, and soot + oil stains on the exhausts and engine block. Oh, and some rather nice (I think) rust red armor plates on the front!

Anyways, I still need to do some more, but for those who are interested, I´m going with a process that´s quite close to what Grey Death described in his weathering article. Still need unit markings on the flag as well, and some sort of text on the ammo box. I´m also making an ammo hopper for two additional loads for the heavy stubber. It will sit underneath the gun itself, under the gun mount.

Still to come: The pilot obviously, as well as his coffee cup, the fuzzy dice, maybe a parsol or something added to the baggage.

And the base of course. Still haven´t totally decided what I´m doing there...

Pictures!

Thanks. After these photos were taken, I added text to the ammo hopper for the gun, retouched some of the scrapes on the hull and added repairs to the hydraulic lines in some places. (That is, I made them look as if they had been patched...)

Oh, and I started painting the pilot!

As for the base, I am torn between keeping the industrial theme of my gang, or going with a forest/tech mix...

Gaming is getting closer, only nine days till I go home for the summer! So expect more fluff and gaming preparations shortly.

Right, not too much progress these last few days, the weather has been too good! Even so, the weatherman has promised me rain tomorrow, so painting should be back on then.

In absence of painting, I´ve been rewriting the vehicle rules in the "Ashwastes" book, which I always felt were poorly explained. So I´m redoing them, and hope that it will be easier to follow.

Oh, and I´m designing special ammo rules for boltguns also. Really wish there was a place on Dakka for things like this.

Good times.

Okay, some more progress here, was going to do mud and grime last night, but my bestial brown had dried up! :(

I ended up starting on his base instead, decided on a bit of street since I felt like doing some GS work..

I´ve included pics of the changes that I`ve made since last time, the text on the ammo hopper, the repairs to the hydraulics lines, and such things. Also, it´s amazing how much you can see in these pictures, I´m catching mistakes that I can´t catch in real life.....

As you can see from the pics, the pilot is in, he´s mostly done but the tatoo on his right arm still needs a little work.

The base will be grimed up appropriately of course.

I haven't gotten that much done, 'cause my father has so many plans about what I should do, so....

I did get myself into a little trouble painting wise. I was spraying my gang their base color, White, and when they had dried, three of them were almost ruined. The paint for some reason had dried in such a way that almost all the details were gone. I think I might have held it to close to the models.

I am in need of a good way to get rid of the spray paint, so that I can redo it. Does anyone know something really good to remove the paint???

The paint I was using is "Base Primer Matt White" from "The Army Painter"

@Nemesister: Hey, thanks a lot, will be getting more done over the summer I hope.

@Peredyne: Weeeeerrll, compared to that it´s almost chilly here, only 85 fahrenheit or so, but it´s way too hot for me, I´ve been living in the Faroe Islands for quite some years, and it wouldn´t go above 65 degrees fahrenheit most years.... with averages of about 55-60 in the summer...

So this is WAY too warm for me, not sure if I´d make it aout of the Airport in Vegas, much less across a street....

Don't feel silly. The base rules are right out of the necromunda rules, but each group that is doing anything with Imunda is using their own modifications for the rules. This variant really needs someone to act as a GM to keep everything balanced. You can download the Necromunda rulebook from the GW specialist games section. I also recommend pulling all of the Necro supplements they have on the site and all of the Inquisitor stuff and work your own rules up.

Good luck with that, be sure to make a blog about it when you get the ball rolling.

Just PM me an email address and I´ll get it to you. Oh, also, see if you can find the "Ash wastes campaign setting". It was made by the guys at the old Fanatic website, and has great stuff for adding vehicles and beasts.
I´m currently re-writing their driving and vehicle combat rules, in the hope that I can explain them better than the original version does.

Oooookay then, finally back from my vacation, and against my hopes (but confirming my fears), there was no proper gaming this summer.

Unfortunately, helping in the planning of the awesome G! Festival really took a lot more time than I´d expected... Ah well, it was a great experience also, but meant that I had little time for anything gaming related.

I have gotten quite some painting and modeling done, and will be updating this thread, and the Blood Angel thread, as I get pictures of it all.

For example, I´ve completed the second marine, and have finished modeling the sargeant, who will be getting paint soon. Also, there´s a BFG rapid strike vessel done, and more BFG ships on the way, for winter mayhem later on.

As far as gaming goes, we did finish some terrain this summer, and got some rules testing done for a new type of Munda scenario, called HulkaMunda for now. More on that later.

So yes, I am back. And updates should hopefully become more or less regular again. Yay!

Alrighty, time for a little picture update here!

It seems that most of the stuff that I have ready to show here is actually Blood Angel related, so that will go in its proper thread. Hpwever, I do have my Gaunt (and subsequent nid) scheme ready for unveiling. It´s nothing fancy, just a basic metallic black, with pure black plates. Then it´s received a grey striping effect, and has been given some greenish goo detailing here and there. And it is still somewhat WIP, unbased and all....

Also, a shot of the table we set up for the inaugural HulkaMunda game. Pretty basic, but you get the picture I hope. Corridors linking the various rooms, blips marking movement locations and bulkheads with doors to note the airlocks.

More to come soon, as well as some more details on the house rules for =I=Munda in space.

Good to be back!

Swipe away my friend, swipe away.

The idea was born of necessity really, we were looking at a way to use the necromunda terrain for ´Hulk style battles, and this seemed to be the only way to make it look proper. Also, because some buildings use fewer bulkheads when placed like this, we had the door ones spare to use as airlocks. Win!

At the moment I´m trying to paint all the bulkheads green, with weathering and damage showing through. This way, they will look even better for future battles. Also, a new tablecloth is needed, since this one does not say "Dank horrible corridors" to me...

Hey, those are looking good man, good job getting some colors on them! They still need basing though.

Two things: Firstly, are you using the macro function on your camera? It should be a small flower or some such. This allows you to take closeups that are far clearer.

Secondly, a light background for the gang would make it easier to see the models properly.

I´d forgotten how nice that tau pilot looks. He really is an ace model!

The rest of the gang is looking good in color as well

Awesome to see you posting Aurelion, nice work on the models, all around. I too have to admit a great admiration for that Tau pilot.

I've been on a bit of a break lately, have my exams next week and then school starts again immediately after that, so we'll see if I can't get back into my modeling and painting mode once the school year has begun.

We should all meet up at Xan's evil-overlord-island and get some games going.

(He keeps denying the existence of his evil-overlord-island-hideaway, but I am sure it exists. It might not have a volcano, but a doom-laser is not too much to ask, right? And a small compound full of minions and dangerous vats of chemicals?)

Well, I´m back with more news, first of which is: Yay for space hulk, it´s been preorderized so hard it made people´s heads spin at my flgs. So get ready for more Hulk=I=Munda when that comes round.

It will also, I hope, serve as inspiration for making more terrain..

In the building and modelling world, here are a few of the things I am working on right now.

My new FW stuff came in, so I´ve started the assembly of what will eventually be a Blood Angel IA (epic) scale thunderhawk. The kit it self is amazing, So many tiny bits, and so much detail. My biggest worry is how to make it all sturdy enough for gaming...

With the FW stuff, I also got my Strike cruiser. Some of the bits were slightly miscast, but nothing that worries me, so I´m assembling it. I havent decided whether to go for standard =I= ship, Deathwatch, or even converting it to a Blood Angel ship... We´ll see.

As far as my own sculpting goes, I´ve been working on this guy for a while, and he is finally getting somewhere close to where I want him, in appearance.
He´s going to be a fleet officer, for our =I=Munda campaign. So I´m giving him the classic fancy coat, with epaulets on the shoulders and a high collar. He´s also gotten a pair of holsters for pistols, and I think he´ll be wielding two Hellpistols in addition to his sword. As should be obvious from the pics, he has a bionic arm, I´m not entirely happy with this yet, I want to add a battery pack to the back of his coat, and have cables going to that. Oh, and I need to make the sword hilt more ornate too. So, still some work to do, but lots done as well.

And here, a glimpse of his personal aide, a Demiurg sworn to him after a fleet operation in which a Demiurg mining vessel was saved by the fleet group he was in. More on this later, and please note that this guy is EXTREMELY wip, he may not even get this upper body, or these legs. More of a test to see what I can do with these components.

Right, that´s all for now, I´m going to get back to sculpting, want to get some stuff done before I have to go to work tonight...
Comments and such is welcomed as always.

Nice Fleet Officer

Post by: Xanthos

Thanks a lot, I´m still considering colors for him,´it´ll either be pure white for the coat, with gold details and lots of fancyness, for a dress uniform style. Or deep blue for the coat, and some subdued colors for the rest, depicting him with his service uniform.

We´ll see, I´m still looking at images from the web. I´m basing him loosely on officers of the line, from the 18th and 19th century. Slightly less pompous though...

Got the other arm on the fleet officer done tonight, he got a master crafted bolt pistol that he´s aiming at some invading beastie...

Haven´t got time for much here, so just some quick piccies for now. Will add more tomorrow after finishing touches and basecoat.

Thank you for the kind words guys.

Anyways, as promised a painting update! I´ve only done the very first layer here, so be kind. The coat will be much deeper eventually, and all the bits that are orange will eventually be gold and/or bronze. Lots of stuff to do, but these are the basic colors blocked out.

I´ll have to put him aside for now, since I´ve just decided that I want to be in a blood bowl tournament this sunday, meaning that finishing my team will have top priority. But I´ll be back with you guys on monday, to resume work.

Looks cool, but why would he have an inquisition symbol on his gun?

Xan´s =I=Munda Campaign: Of Dark Places and Shady Characters @ 2009/08/27 19:58:50

Post by: Xanthos

@ph34r: Ahh, well that would be because of the fluff. You see, the gun is actually a master crafted weapon, given to him by inquisitor Sigismund when he was chosen as his interrogator.

Forgot to mention that....

@Aurelion: Thanks a lot, I really tried to move away from the look of the bits that were in the box with this one... As for the BB team, it´s gonna be difficult, but I think they´ll be ready for sunday.

That new guy using the imperial guard model is ace.

Wow, awesome project! I gotta ask, though, what rules did you use for the tyranids in "Hulka-munda" a while back?

Post by: Xanthos

Hey wow, thanks for all the comments guys!

@Sonofruss: Yeah, right now he´s very Mordian´esque. I´m hoping that I can move away from that with some freehand detailing on his coat, as well as some hints on his base when he´s done. But even so, looking mordian isn´t necessarily a bad thing...

@konf, abhorsen, DrunkenSamurai: Thanks a lot. As I add to this group of models, I consider them more as elements in a story, than just models. Lots of fun

@Rocketeer: Thank you good sir. For the nasty gribblies, we went with the profiles from the old second edition Codex, since the rest of Necromunda is based loosely on that, we felt it would be best to fetch the nids from that as well.

Still not back in the painting and modeling, sadly, but I have hopes for some time early next week.

Wow. I just found this thread last night, and powered through reading the entire thing between last night and this evening. So, thanks for keeping me up 'til 0300 before I had to get up at 0700 this morning...

On a more serious note, I love the models here almost as much as I love the battle reports. I've been an Inquisition junkie since I discovered 40k, back with the release of 2nd ed, and as soon as Necromunda came out I was a huge fan of it as well. Now you've inspired me, and I'm halfway through writing up an e-mail asking if my friends have any interest in playing some =I=Munda!

Keep up the awesome work, everyone!

Hey all. Have been holding off on posting, not wanting to drag this thread back to the front page, but since it´s here anyway I might as well.

Shane, I´m glad to hear you liked the stuff I put up. Rest assured that more will be coming, though I´ve been rather busy lately with Space Hulk, getting my IG army tournament ready, and the soon to be released skaven..

Malika, the fleet officer has quite a ways to go yet, I´m considering freehanding some stuff onto the border of his stormcoat, and overall he needs layering and washing.
But I needed to get colors onto him, to see if they matched my vision of the model. Hope to get back to him soon.

Oh, and also; The new BB pc game is amazing, it´s stealing sooo much time from me...

Now I have to go searching through to find your Guard army. I'm just getting back into 40k after a long hiatus, and the army I've decided to do this time around is Guard. If yours is anywhere near as inspired as your =I=Munda stuff, I think I'm looking forward to hours of staring at it, followed by hours of trying to incorporate your ideas into my own army. Thanks for all the inspiration!

Makes me sad about my local gaming scene, but really fun to read about!

Hiya Dakkaites!

I haven't been updating my Necromunda gang for ages, and it has stared at me from the shelf...their grey eyes tearing into my very soul!
I decided I couldn't take it anymore, so after seeing Gerbrith's awesome progress on her gang leader, I decided to finish my gang leader too! The reason I hadn't really made any progress was indecisiveness. I couldn't decide what color skin I wanted the Kroot to have, their armor, the decorations, the quills etc. etc. Finally after some fiddling I decided on a scheme and got painting!

I debuted my gang back on page 9 of this thread (Linky here for ease of navigation ^^).
In some flash of insane brilliance I actually remembered to take WIP pics as I assembled my leader, so lets go through 'em and see how he evolved!

Here's where it all started! The bitz for the leader are on the right side. I was in Faroe Islands, staying at Xanthos's place so I had plenty of time to fiddle around with models ^^

Here's a list of bitz in the model:
* Kroot Carnivore Squad bitz
* Cadian Imperial Guard squad bitz
* Dark Elf Corsair bitz
* Old Bloodletter axe
* A basing kit barrel methinks
* Some brass razorwire
* Some rubber roofing material (blue corrugated stuff)
* Greenstuff
* Florist wire

Here's the first blue-tacced mockup of the leader.

I was still trying to decide on the pose and arsenal here, experimenting with allsorts of bitz.
I peeled the flamer off of a Cadian special weapons guy and fitted it to a Kroot knife arm. I clipped the Bloodletter axe in two and pinned it into a kroot-rifle arm. The rebreather mask sortof just happened! Its made with greenstuff and came out great imo!

Modelling work done

Here I'd decided on a pose and most of the conversion work is done. Though its not visible, the hosing on the flamer wasn't complete. I had to turn the valve on the fuel tank to allow for a side connection. Then I pinned a length of florist wire between the existing plastic tubing and the fuel valve. Then, using PVA glue, I brushed on layers of glue until it was the correct thickness. It was about 3-4 layers. This worked awesomely! You got a nice solid smooth finish and you could vary the thickness as much you want! (by the thickness of the glue and amount of layers).
The connection between the plastic tubing and wire/glue tubing was still abit visible. I contemplated sanding it down but in the end I decided on making a greenstuff connector to hide the joint. It also kinda makes sense if you want to uncouple the flamer from the tank, without removing the tank!

Ch'pekk ready

And here he is!
The yellow triangle on the front is to determine facing.

Here's a 360° view of the beast ^^

And here's his roster information.
Name: Ch'Pekk
Kroot Gang Leader
Equipment: Flamer, Flamer reload, Power axe, Grapnel, Respirator, Flak vest
Skills & upgrades: +1T, Iron will & Step Aside

Now that I've got my leader finished expect updates on the rest of the gang! (unless you want them someplace else Xan?)

Oi, a sneaky Kroot update! Very Nice Protocon, your GS skills have grown mightily!

This is fine for updates, I had almost resigned this thread to the depths of the forum, but life is better.

This pf course also means that I´ll have to get back to Munda for a bit....

Way to go Proto! Awesome job on that Leader. He comes out great, and the red skin tone is delicious. =) I also like the cloak a lot, looks like it actually came from a green animal, and not like it was dyed green on both sides like so many other claoks one sees.

Nice touch with the spinning picture too. =)

Since Protocon went ahead and ressurected the thread, I now feel compelled to share my leader with you peeps. ^^ I finally finished sculpting her, after ages of not feeling like it cause it's my first sculpt and I didn't think she'd get as good as I'd like etc. You can see the initial stages here. Eventually I did away with all my silly excuses and finished her. Protocon offered to paint her for me and he did an awesome job of it in my opninion. My favourite parts are the freehand on the gun and back of her coat. I was very demanding and asked him to keep at it until he got it the way I wanted it, and it worked out just right. =)

Without further ado, I present "Keynote", the leader of my gang.

So there she is, I should've made a post about her sooner, but I sort of fell of the face of forums and didn't get around to it. =p

Hey Gerbrith, I know I´ve said this before, but I´ll tell you again: Your modeling is getting really good these days.

I think many people may not realize that the model is a full GS build, it´s that clean.

If I were to comment on one thing, It would be that she´s too "normally" proportioned, compared to many of the models around these days, and their heroic proportions. This makes her seem thin, when she´s actually closer to human proportions...

Still nothing to show from me...
