Greeting all,
A few months ago, while waiting to collect the final bitz for my Angels of Vigilance, I started another Space Marine army. Highly devoted to the God-Emperor, they seek to convert the godless masses of the Universe.
Here is what I have so far:
Terminators
Tactical Marines
Terminator Librarian
Dreadnought
Current WIPs
Captain
Beliel/Chapter Master
Dreadnought
I apologize for the huge amount of pics, but I've been working on them for the past few months and forgot to make a blog on this site. I will post more background and the like as I think of it.
Until then,

Nice captain WIP, I take it he is a converted Sicarius?
3144
Post by: SonofGuilliman
@P4NC4K3: It is indeed Sicarius.
Chapter Badge: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/DSCF0638.jpg in gold.
Here's everything I have written so far about the Emperor's Word.
Background wise I want them to be devout and perhaps spread their gospel. I figure since I'll be using both the double headed aquila and the skull one, that it'll be the two paths the potential convertees can choose. The Emperor, the regular aquila, or death, the skull headed one. This option, of course, if only for humans, and any xenos they face automatically get the 2nd option. Since they will be devoutly religious to the Emperor, they'll be called 'The Emperor's Word' and follow the codex.
Other information:
Primarch: Dorn - will be similar to BTs, but perhaps more zealous?
Home Planet: None - Fleet Based
Founding: M38... 23rd Founding.
They could have been originally formed from a core of templars who found them to be too lax in their beliefs and decided to form their own chapter. Kinda like how the Puritans formed.
They deviate from the standard markings in that they keep the central colour of their armour, bone, and show their rank/designation on the arms as I wanted them to put less importance on things such as titles and ranks. I can't, however, figure out a good reason why they don't change the bone in their armour other than it's holy.
Examples:
Standard Marine/Commander: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khr...spacemarine.jpg
Librarian: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khr...pacemarine5.jpg
Chaplain: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khr...cemarine1-1.jpg
Techmarine: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khr...pacemarine2.jpg
Apothecary: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khr...cemarine0-1.jpg
As for religion and how they view the Emperor, I think I want do to both actually. They will have the God-Emperor view that the Ecclesiarchy have but before they are inducted into the 1st Company, they are told the truth about the Emperor, and if they accept this, then they are inducted, but if not, they are turned into drones/servitors or something of that nature.
Battle cry 1.0: "Heed His word, or feel His wrath"
That's about all I have so far.

After a long hiatus, I have returned again to the Emperor's Word. I've been meaning to do this for a while but haven't gotten around to it.
I've begun to model my Kantor Counts-as and this is what I have so far.

Which head do you prefer? Alternatively I have Sicarius' bare head.

Probably the only bannered back pack for the army.
Next Special Character I'll probably do is Shrike using the Wolf Guard with Lightning Claws and an Assault Squad Culln to make it Mk4 armour.
Hopefully I'll start painting this guy soon.

Got lots of priming done today, and did a quick tutorial on painting bone.
Painting Bone by SonofGuilliman
Paints Needed
Or if you only have GW colours...
Stages
Step1: Paint a coat of Bestial Brown. Doesn't have to be neat, just has to be over the areas you want to paint bone.
Step2: Apply Menoth White Base or Bleached Bone over Bestial Brown. Will take roughly 3 coats of Menoth White Base to cover smoothly and probably 4+ coats of Bleached Bone for the same effect.
Step3: Apply Gryphonne Sepia over chosen bone colour.
Step4: Add highlights around edges. Chosen bone colour to start around all edges, followed by a 1:1 coat of bone plus white around sharp edges and middles of areas. (I.e. Top and bottom of knee pads, and above the foot, etc.).
SoG Automatically Appended Next Post: I had a spare AoBR Sergeant that I wanted to replace my old Sergeant with so that he's more in line with the rest of the other Sergeants, so I did a quick conversion on him.

I simply removed the inner part of the shoulder pad, cut the trim off the one I wanted, and glued the two together. Need to fill some gaps but other than that, it's pretty simple and effective.

Managed to mostly get the 6 marines done. Need to do their backpacks and then they're done. I still need to do the Missile Launchers and backpacks for the other 2 marines and then the 2 squads are done. After that, it's on to 5 terminators.

I really like the whold army. The bone colour looks great for, especially as its over lots and lots of models.
As fas as Jungor is ocncearned, he lacks individuality. I think if you made the cloak a muted(stress muted) blue colour and work the gold up just a little more to seperate it form the bone, it will look trully astounding.
My first impusle for the space no the banner was a bloodied space marine head, but obviously not. Prehapse a glorified version of your armies symbol?
Overall, it'd be a delight to play this army, because it'd look so unified.

I finished the Assault Marine Sergeant today and started on some Sternguard.
Sergeant:

Exorcists Deathwatch Sternguard:

I'd like to go with older marked armour for this one squad but I'm not convinced about the head on this particular model. I might switch it out for a bare head.
I plan to have a couple squads of Deathwatch Sternguard and having a theme in the squads themselves, possibly having an Emperor's Word marine leading each squad. I'd like to have one squad based on Badab War chapters and the other on Third War for Armageddon chapters.
So far for the Badab Marines I have: Mantis Warriors, Lamenters, Executioners, Space Sharks, Star Phantoms, Red Scorpions, and Exorcists. I realize that some of them fought on opposite sides, but I figure it'll make for a good rivalry or something in the squad.
And for the Armageddon Marines I have: Sons of Guilliman (a little homage to my other marines), Angels Porphyr, Blood Angels, and Mortifactors.
In both cases, I need more members and modular pads to represent the other chapters. Help on this would be appreciated, even in just saying which set has which pad.

The shoulder pads were made with the rims of the CSM pad either the crux terminatus pad or the skull eagle one. Cut off the rim from the CSM pad, remove the rim and about another rims worth from the other pad, glue together, and gs any gaps.
I redid the shoulder pads for the Vanguard and I am much more pleased with them. Now they are the same size as regular pads.

To recreate sternguard bolters you can use the magazines off the stormbolter for the Rhino. If you're making Razorbacks or Preds you prob haven't used the Stormbolter anyway, and you can get two Sternguard style magazines from the one Stormbolter! [edit - on closer inspection of your deathwatch squad it appears that you have already done that. I have no new knowledge to share.]

I have also been working on the Deathwatch pads and finished the Marines Errant and Fire Angels pads.

Which brings me to the second in command/squad leader for the squad:
The background says they paint the armour black, but doesn't say anything about removing ties to their old chapter, best as I can tell, so I figured a more 'wolfy' SW would be okay, painted black of course.

I finished the highlights on the bone and started work on the purple. Still early days for it yet, but it's turning out okay.

I got a bit of stuff done since returning from holidays.
Converted a Sergeant for my 4th Tactical Squad (of AoBR Marines):
Finished the second of four plasma gunners for my second Command Squad:
Repositioning this guy's head took a while but I think it turned out alright.
Finally, here's a shot of about 2/3 of what I need to paint/convert. Some stuff in the pic is painted and is there right now for storage:
Hope to have more updates shortly.

I managed to get a cloak test for the scouts done. The scout himself is almost done, just need to touch up the skin and add highlights to the hair.

Is the cloak good how it is or does it need another highlight of Codex Grey/Fortress Grey 1:1?

@Twalks: That's the plan. I need to make people feel bad for not having a painted army .
@StarGate: I have a few combi weapons I've made myself. The others I am going to use are stock ones.
Finished a bot more today.
The Sergeant's Head
Bodies of 3 Terminators

@Scottywan82: Go right ahead. Just remember, my marines are 4th Company.
I finished some more terminators today.
As well as my Shrike counts-as, except for some touchups and his head and jump pack.

And lastly, a terminator shot, except the assault terminators.
After I finish Shrike, who I'm calling Shrieve in my army, I should probably finish that Raider.

and the Heavy Flamer and head for the Terminator.

I also bought the Space Marine Casualties to use as objective markers in my group's upcoming campaign, so I should have those done this week too in addition to the raider that I hope to get done.

Just want to say, I really love your paint scheme (and your skill at painting [and converting too]) although I personally would go for a dark red instead of purple, kinda like Hive Fleet Kraken's colors. I'm also curious as to how well you think your bone colors would translate to painting a necron army. I took some pics in the Dawn of War Army Painter...
What do you think?
3144
Post by: SonofGuilliman
@MasterDRD: While the dark red does look good, I wanted a more regal look for my marines and purple does that job nicely. I'm also a big fan of purple and bone together. I think the bone would do well on a Necron army.
Here's the link to how I painted the bone if you're interested: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/259891.page
Also, I got a bit more stuff built recently. This isn't all of it, but it shows that I'm still working on stuff.
Apothecary, Cyclone Missile Launcher Terminator, Command Squad Vet
Venerable Dreadnought
The dread's arms are magnetized.
SoG

Post by: MasterDRD
Very nice, I like the mace claws on the dread. (not sure if it's a conversion, but it stands out to me.)
On the subject of the necrons, it seems (unsurprisingly) that someone actually did paint their necrons bone-colored; a member of this forum in fact, though the last update was July 10th... Ravendove's Necrons
Although mine will be different in that I'll use red as a secondary color and the standard green for gauss stuff, this proves that it can be done effectively. I'll be using your technique for bone, though.

Hey SoG, I have a question. When you paint your Bestial Brown undercoat and then 3 layers of Menoth White Base, do you dilute the paint at all or paint straight from the pot? And if you do dilute, how much? I'm asking because I just finished the last coat of Menoth White Base straight from the pot, and I can see the 'texture' of the dried paint on the model. Is it supposed to be like that...? (I haven't really painted models with more than 2 coats before, so I'm worried about painting it too thick...)
3144
Post by: SonofGuilliman
I always water down my paint. I usually do about 2:1 paint to water or so, enough so it flows nicely but isn't too watery that it doesn't cover well.
SoG

Hey SoG, just wanted to let you know that I painted a necron using your bone technique... (with properly watered paint)
And it looks pretty fething sweet! The model itself isn't done yet, since I just so happen to not have any sort of dark red paint, but other than possible 'touch-ups' to cover future mistakes, the bone is completely painted. In fact, I'd go so far as to say it's probably the best paintjob I've done so far. Then again, I hardly consider myself a skilled painter. But I'll be proud to show this one off.
I wish I could take pictures for you, but I don't have a camera, and the pictures I take with my cell phone are so blurry that it'd be faster (and exactly as detailed) to just spraypaint a tan stick figure in MS Paint.

@battle Brother Lucifer and Nightbringer's Chosen: It isn't supposed to be flayed skin, though that pic does make it look like it. It's supposed to look more like the parchment on the Venerable Dread. I painted it that way mostly so it would stand out from the armour itself, as I used Bleached Bone for both the armour and the parchment.
@indiana1000: Go right ahead.
@Miss Dee: They aren't Word Bearers' Successors, they're actually Imperial Fist successors: see my second post on the first page.
