Hey ya'll. New to Dakka here.

Have been trolling the forums for about a month now and really like the painting i see going on here. Some really great stuff happening, learned alot. This is my first army and I wanted to share my journey here with you.

I realize that there are ALOT of ork players and painter on this forum, but I wanted to post anyway and get some opinions, fairly new to modeling so my basing isn't the best.

Comments and criticism welcomed!

Looks great. Just one little nitpick, Drill out the barrels. I'm guilty of taking pics before I drill because I get so excited a mini is done. Snikrot is ace and good pics.

I like the red on snikrot , what colors do you use? for it to shine like that

Thanks for the comments all. I finished snikrot, he looks real good, may be a couple days before i can get a picture up of him.

As per the comment from Watsabi I just haven't purchased a hand drill yet, though they are just 4 dollars from Michaels, would be a worthy investment. IM just not looking forward to the carpel tunel I will surely get from drilling out over a hundred barrells haha.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also LunaHound I don't use citidel paints, I figure that GW gets more than enough money from me with the minitures and all.

I use craft store paints. The brand is called Folkart, i use the artist pigment, it has a higher pigment count like the citadel paints due but its about the 3rd of the cost and works the same.

I like the sinkrot, nice gem effects on the mask. The only thing that bothers me is it looks like the blades on his choppas are rusty, like they havent been sharpened. The edges of those things oughta gleam malevolently in the moonlight.

Chris' Painting Blog ---- Necrons, Marines + Thousand Sons @ 2009/07/21 14:35:58

Post by: TheChronoTrigger

The pictures are dark, the blades are actually quite orange and not rusty at all, they gleam quite nicely =)

Snikrot looks great- actually everything is awesome!

What did you use to coat/ protect Snikrot? It looks like he has a shine to him. I use 'Ard Coat from GW to protect my models, but I only paint it onto spaces that I want to shine; sweaty body parts and shiny vehicle pieces. Then I spray dull protective coating on from a spray can.

Can we see an entire army photo? Your HQ units look great so far!

Chris' Painting Blog ---- Necrons, Marines + Thousand Sons @ 2009/07/21 15:06:00

Post by: TheChronoTrigger

I use the Army Painter strong tone on my models, then i spray them with rustoleum matt coat to take away the shine.

Thanks for the comments though.

I will try to get an entire army shot up.

Really digging the scheme, like the brown and reds and the checkered helmets

ohh and good use of tonka, just jack up the wheels with some spikes or something, they dont look orky enough in my opinion.

ohh and snikrot is simply amazing

Ack! Craft paint!
You get some pretty nice reults for using Folk Art. I could never get any decent coverage out of the stuff.

Chris' Painting Blog ---- Necrons, Marines + Thousand Sons @ 2009/09/03 21:34:46

Post by: LunaHound

Forgive me for asking this rather rudely ( well not rude , but im not sure how to word it differently :< )

Are the free hand on the tech priest done by a different medium? i noticed the shading and high light on the free hand itself is smoother than the actual model itself.

Chris' Painting Blog ---- Necrons, Marines + Thousand Sons @ 2009/09/03 21:56:00

Post by: Boogs

I was going to say, you may want to upgrade to model line acrylic paints like GW, P3, Reaper Master Series, Vallejo etc. You seem to be a pretty good painter and I can assure you, it will make a world of difference.

My first few models I ever painted where done with a Mix of Folk Art and Apple Barrel craft paints, once I actually ponied up for some GW paints I never looked back.

You are doing great man. As previously stated those freehands are awesome!

I haven't used reaper paints but GW, P3 and Vallejo are awesome paints, once you try them you'll never want to use craft paint on minis again. Grab a bottle here and there and you'll be hooked.

Thanks peeps.

@ LunaHound: i used the same paint for the freehand. I didn't draw it first either, i just straight up painted it on his cloak.

Unfortunately I finished the trophy and gave it to the guy running the GT and forgot to photograph it. When the GT comes around in October I will make sure to photograph the full trophy itself and resubmit it.

Now that my commissions are done im gonna be getting back to my ork army. I have my kommandos pretty much done and my 'Ard Boyz are a WIP now. Will get more photos up in a bit.

I did photograph the trophy along with all the other trophies at the GT, but it was with my friends camera so i don't have the pictures. Hope to get them up soon!

I have to finish basing my kommandos, top knot squad boyz. I also have some WIP shots of my zzap gunner krew and kind of a snapshot of my next and last squad of trukk boyz.

Perhaps some matt varnish would work well.

Hey yall, been a while since i posted. I got another squad of boys done. It's tough painting orks due to the fact that there are so many. Not an easy task. I put the orks on hold for a bit.

I purchased another army. Chaos space marines. Im going undivided, kinda sick of all the nurgle players out there. So im going old school with iron warriors. I will get some pics posted soon, got over 100k pts painted so far.

I also made a life changing feat. I went to GW paints and man can I tell the difference. I will never go back to cheap craft store paints.

Post by: The Ghoma

I dunno but it seems like your orks skin texture is a bit different...hmmmm it's not a bad thing, it just seems different compared to the usual orks i see....How did you paint the skin?

Woah! 4 months you ressurect the thread with NO PICTURES? Thread necromancy!
Just joking, but having read this thread way back when, it deeply saddens me to see the neglect it has been treated to.

Chris' Painting Blog ---- Necrons, Marines + Thousand Sons @ 2010/02/20 04:27:29

Post by: Sarigar

Your freehand work is very good. I like your color selections throughout your army. The skin tones on the Orks look a little rough, but it may have been the paints or primer you used. Overall, I really like your work.

If you're really concerned about varnishing the models and getting that 'dusty' look, Vallejo sells a paint on acryllic matt finish. I typically gloss coat my models, then use it to get rid of the shine and it typically does a good job of protecting the models during gameplay.

Looking forward to seeing more pics.

Thanks evryone. I finished base coating all my other vehicles. Nothing prevelant as of yet to show.

@ Limbo: The stripes are definitely tough. First I decide where the stripes should go. Then I lay down two coats of skull white followed by two coates of yellow, i forget the name of the yellow, its the darker one. Not sunburst yellow. After that I carefully paint the stripes with a detail brush with chaos black trying to keep the angle and width the same. I don't use tape or a mask. On large areas like the dozer blade I did pen out where my stripes were before I painted them.

As far as the gold its just burnished gold with a wash of delvin mud

Well done. I enjoyed the orks, but it's good to see you've come to the side of chaos! IW is not my favorite scheme, but you've done one of the better paintjobs I've seen on here.

Thanks Lint, the orks are very time consuming. I really enjoy the clean look of iron warriors. I think they look so badass.

Anyone have suggestions on vehicle weathering for me? Do they look weathered enough or should I really go all out. And what are some good techniques. I want them to look crisp and industrial with a good amount of veteran battle wear.

calypso = erich?

anyway chris your army looks like gak, you should spend a little more time on the hazard stripes and weathering, and back to base ix is a waste when you can spend more money on bases that dont even match your army that well...
and on top of that, erich is lying....
have a nice night, see you saturday to kill your dh character...

Liking the Iron Warriors!

Though what paint did you use as they look a little, new. If armour and tanks are 10,000 years old I think they'd look more gritty. How about some badab black or devlan mud wash? Devlan mud is the lighter of the two.

How did you do the hazard stripes btw?

I guess for scratches you used chaos black and then boltgun metal over the top?

Also, how'd you do the "steps" on your Iron Warrior bases? They're simple but the paintscheme is perfect for your Iron Warriors.

It's been a while since I posted and A LOT has happened. I stopped with the demonhunters for now and went in the opposite direction.

I did some contract work for my local gaming store and received a substantial amount of store credit so I purchased an entire demon army.

My goal — Get the demons painted and a display board set for the DaBoyz GT in november. Can I do it? We shall see. Pictures of progress to come later today!

Some pretty cool stuff here, the blood effect on the orks blades are very cool. My only nit-pick is the orks bases: they (sand?) you use looks a lot like finely chopped peanuts. Just personal taste though.

DP looks sick, digging the paler flesh tones that people are going with for the new models. Cant see too much of Kairos from the pics, but what I can is looking nice. I would probably have done some sort of multicoloured thing on the wings, I remember reading somthing about the LOC having rapidly colour changing wings. But the blue is tzeentchy and well painted so kudos.

Newest update. Here are some WIP shots of my Herald on Juggernaut. I really wanted to make him different from the normal day to day bloodcrusher. i took one of the leftover swords from the DP model and attached it to the Herald's sword arm. I think it's JUST big enough to not look too ridiculous. I also wanted the juggernaut to look more badass than most crushers so I'm kinda making him appear to glow from the inside with a demonic fire.

Comments welcome!

Side note, picked up the raven wing box so now I'm just gonna run your ass over and Courtney was showing of his new Dark Elder, since Travis game him the BB. see ya Friday

So the DaBoyz GT was this past weekend. Turnout was amazing. 90 plus people showed up. I played all right, won 3 games lost 2. No prizes for me but I did manage to squeak in top 5 painting. Out of that many people I consider that pretty damn good considering the armies there. I wasn't able to get my demons done in time so I brought my IW. The thing that held me back from getting a higher appearance score is my lack of conversions. Get ready for an onslaught of photos. Some of the pictures will not do the armies justice. Below will be the top painted armies including mine. Hope you enjoy. I am also going to be posting some terrain at the tournament, all dontaed for use by people in Rochester, NY. We had over 45 tables full of beautiful terrain, I consider myself very fortunate to have these tables at use.

Hey yall,

Long time since I posted. I finished the FW Khorne Demon prince commission but neglected to take pictures. He is currently sitting in the local store's display case, i will try to get some pictures up. He is probably my best painted model as of yet. I also finished the land raider for grey knights, but sold it to a friend, will soon get some pictures up of the finished product. The land raider has a total of 11 freehands on it, I am very pleased with it.

I am using my earnings to start an Ultramarines force, the FW Demon paint comission bought me a the FW ultramarines ven dread, which is currently in the mail. The land raider got me a squad of scouts, a drop pod and a nother landraider. I have some honor guard painted up, will get pictures up soon so stay on the edge of your seat. I am looking to sell this bad boy, will be posting on ebay, my price shall be failry reasonable, so if anyone wants to get first dibs send me a pm. I will try my best to get some pictures up ASAP of my workings, try not to hold your breath though

Wow, that blue is wonderfully vibrant.

Lots of awesome stuff in this thread. It's particularly sweet and useful as an example of an excellent painter switching over mid-stream from using cheap craft paints to using good quality model paints, and the visible difference.

Since a fair number of painters out there do use the cheapo paints, do you have any comments about the difference or improved performance you see? I'd love to read any more detailed remarks in terms of things it makes possible or easier, or why it's really worth the money (if it is), in your opinion.

Thanks for sharing the awesome pics. Hopefully I can make Da Boyz GT this year.

The difference is unimaginable, i moved from cheap paints, where they dry too quickly and appear chalky and blotchy, to GW paints. THey are expensive yes but you will see the difference in quality immediately.

In regards to the Daboyz GT it would be great to have you there. I will be a judge this upcoming year so you wont see my armies, but it is a great time with great people.

Nice looking stuff Chris. Your models look great, but it seems like the red and the white are a bit 'dull' in comparison to the rest of the model. Have you thought about bringing up the color in them a bit with Blood Red or Blazing Orange? It looks like you are using Red Scab/Gore on them.

I was hoping to see your UM at the lock in but the wife kind of crashed my plans. You going to be in town this week, we ought to catch up.

Edit: I was in Millenium last week and saw the DP in the case, he turned out really well. I wasn't sure if it was you or Travis who did it (although I figured it was you).

Haha thanks Eric, i was away last weekend, but i will be in town this weekend. You won't be in the lockin??? We do need to catch up though.

The red looks better in person, in the pic it does seem flat. I didn't want to use blood red b/c its a tad more orange-y.

It's difficult to see the depth of color due to the varnish i use. I use the expensive oil painting art varnish stuff, it goes on glossy, but over time and exposure to light it fades to a real nice matte finish and protects wonderfully.

I'm actually gonna be using the demon i painted for travis in the lockin, im tired of just using the chaos lord, and Iron Warriors fall to khorne so i figured it would fit

Actually I just got clearance to go to the lock in this weekend so I will be there with my Slaanesh Daemons. You should bring your Daemons to it as well, you should have enough points if you wanted to do mono khorne and you could run the DP as either a BT or as Skarbrad (that is an interesting idea actually given he 'helps everyone' for the format).

We should team up again for Simcon with double Daemon action...

@ logg_frogg and WM: Thanks! Your responses encourage me to continue.

@ Calypso: I was gonna run my chaos cuz their painted but for the rules of the tourney i feel demons may be a good option, i need to look at the rules for the greater demon special character of khorne.

Well, I have finally put together a tutorial. I figured i would post a how-to for painting hazard stripes, since my drop pod will be riddled with them. I will start off by listing the steps, and then the pictures that correspond will follow. Forgive me if what i say is confusing, this is my first tutorial.

Step 1:
I like to get a real rich yellow base coat down before i start painting my stripes. I do this with two layers of skull white, followed by 3 layers of golden yellow making sure my brush is a little wet so the paint doesn't goop up.

Step 2: I then place little tiny dots of black, spaced evenly, along the length of the surface where the stripes will be. In this case the spacing was 3/8", but this will all depend on how think you want the stripes to be, for my chaos shoulder guards and bolters i just eyeballed it.

Step 3:
I then water down chaos black a bit as to prevent drying during this part. Using the dots as your guideline, paint thin parallel lines at a diagonal along the length of the surface, try your best to keep the gap between stripes consistent, if the lines are not parallel then the whole thing will look off, so take your time. This step is very tedious, so don't rush.

Step 4:
Simply fill in the blanks, this part is basically paint by numbers. This step is also the forgiving parts, if your lines weren't perfectly parallel you can thicken them up a bit and fix any gaps that were too far apart. You can call it quits here, cuz your stripes should look pretty nice, or continue onto steps 5 and 6.

Step 5:
Using codex grey, i highlight the black stripes, watering the paint down a little to get a fading affect. May take a coupe passes to get this to look right.

Step 6: Highlighting the yellow stripes is the last part. I use a mixture of 2 parts skull white and 1 part golden yellow, add a little water and then use the same technique for the black stripes. You can choose to go further and add weathering, like on my chaos vindicator, or leave it crisp. But now you're done!

Hope you found this helpful!

I'm gonna be frank here. From these pictures your Vehicles look leagues ahead of your infantry. They look much more advanced... in other words... DO MORE VEHICLES!!!!

Post by: HF Izanagi

Great freehand on the Landraider! For the words, do you use a micropen? Either way, beautiful work. My only critique (except to agree with Imperial Monkey for more vehicles) is the grey knight on one side of the 'raider looks to be a bit "light". I would go a few shades darker and actually commit to the image being there like the other side's. Or perhaps it's due to the monotone vs. the multi-color...? I dont' know, but the balance is a bit off.. but that's the only thing I can think of. Other than that, really great painting and freehand!

Thanks!

I do not use a micro pen. My dad was a sign painter and a calligrapher in his youth, he taught me some things. I'm trying to step up my painting on my infantry, i have yet to paint any ultramarines, save for the two honor guard. I wanna do more weathering, ive been watching some tutorials and there are many things i would like to try. I also just picked up an airbrush, so im hoping that will add some more dimesnion.

In regards to the gk on the side of the landraider, i struggled with that as well, trying to make him pop. I beleive it's b/c the freehand is so monotone. But my friend is very pleased and so am I with the turnout.

Haha thx

So here is a couple WIP shots of the bottom of my drop pod. Idk how i feel about how the ultramarines logo, prolly gonna have another go at it. But i still need to do weathering to is, so be forgiving.

I also participated in a tournament and came in 2nd, here are my winnings! I used the demon prince i painted up, but regrettably i forgot to photograph it. Will try again next week.

Some more pictures, i got my FW ultramarines dread and am excited to get started on that, also another commission for the owner of our store (Hamlin the Plagued Malifaux box)

Fantastic! Congrats on your win, and just a tad bit jealous at getting Vallejo paints for free...

The Ultramarine sign looks pretty good- I think the multiple layers look great... and I don't know why, but fluff-wise ( ) the rust fencing and pristine symbol are kinda opposites... but I really think it works out quite nicely here. Very well put-together and coordinated!

Thanks HF, the floor isn't done, the symbol will be far from pristine when it's finished. I still need to add weathering.

Here is an update on my drop pod doors, first time using an airbrush after my pops showed me a quick tutorial. I'm liking the result. I also added some weathering to my honor guard and airbrushed a matte coat to remove that shine on them, when i get a better camera i will try to remember to take some pics.

Enjoy!

As stated above I will soon be starting my deathwatch army. But I will be testing paint schemes. I know the left arm of deathwatch members are silver, but i am considering a different style, i was thinking of a nmm chrome look. I started painting it this morning to see what it looks like. I really like the results, but not sure how it would look on a deathwatch terminator. Thoughts? Criticisms? Other ideas???

perhaps more grey than brown? i did some research from this site http://www.elfwood.com/farp/theart/williamreflection/Reflective1.htm

But perhaps i should tone it down some. Ill use the other leg to make some more tests

Chris' Painting Blog ---- Necrons, Marines + Thousand Sons @ 2011/05/03 17:05:01

Post by: TheChronoTrigger

Thanks popsicle! They were airbrushed using a zenithel lighting technique and masking.

WM, Another comment about Sky-Earth NMM, it really depends on what the chrome is reflecting, the left leg on the marine i painted would show a reflection of dirt/mountain range. Where as the image you displayed would reflect a more of a pavement/industrial world. I will try both though to see which i like better. Greys are easier to work with than browns anyway

Chris' Painting Blog ---- Necrons, Marines + Thousand Sons @ 2011/05/03 17:16:30

True point, but I think the more subtle SENMM works a bit better. The bolder colors seem to take me out of it a bit more.

Just a thought on the chrome side, if you had a terminator squad with some chrome armour plates would some of the terminators reflect on each others armour.

Sounds good but would be a nightmare from a painting perspective I expect.

Chris' Painting Blog ---- Necrons, Marines + Thousand Sons @ 2011/05/03 20:23:47

Post by: TheChronoTrigger

Haha that is a cool idea, but very improbable, especially since they wont stay in the same formation throughout the battle, also i will only be painting their left arm this way, not their whole suit of armor.

I'm just worried it doesnt fit the scheme, too shiny for the 41st millennium, where as a grungy silver like my iron warriors seems better suited. I'm on the fence on how i want these guys done up

Chris' Painting Blog ---- Necrons, Marines + Thousand Sons @ 2011/05/04 17:29:27

Post by: TheChronoTrigger

OK, attempt number two, sorry for the poor photography. It looks better in person. I think i almost nailed it this time around, i think i gotta smooth out where the grey meets the white and take some more time with the blending. A lot of the blending of colors got washed out in the photo unfortunately so it will be tough to judge. I believe i will end up painting the whole model chrome SENMM to get a better handle on it and also it will be easier to see how it looks altogether. Let me know what you think though. C&C encouraged!

I think its really getting there as you say a bit more work on the blending and it will be looking really nice, I think one other thing comparing it to the jugger on the GW site is the gloss adds an extra touch to the paint job giving it a bit more of a shine.

Thanks a lot nerdfest. I'm in the process of repainting the drop pod, It's gonna be an ultramarine chapter deathwatch drop pod for the ven dread i will have in the army. The chrome marine is a fun little project, but i'm gonna have to shelf him for a bit. Idk if i will be using that technique on my deathwatch, too shiny. I want them to be gritty and tough looking.

Just a small update. I'm pushing myself with GS. No chance of getting better without trying. I have a lot of respect for people that are excellent with GS. I'm struggling with keeping it smooth. Up close there's little bumps and creases, but almost unnoticeable from tabletop view, so I am ok with the turnout. Still a WIP. The top view shot of the termie is a bit blurry, but I'm working on sculpting the inquisitor logo on him. C&C welcomed here.

With working the green stuff I had similar frustrations, I found two things out that really help;

1st get your self some "colour shapers" they are like paint brushes but with rubber/silicone heads on them and they come in various stiffnesses, I got the white heads and they work well with green stuff. I got a pack of 5 or 6 with various different shaped tips on them they are great and really help with working the green stuff.

2nd let the green stuff cure for a bit like half an hour and then use plenty of water (lots of people use spit/saliva also) and keep working the green stuff loads until you get a really clean smooth finish to it.

Another thing to try is mixing it in different proportions I can't remember which way round it is but less of one and more of the other will effect how hard it sets.

The loin cloth looks great by the way!

Yeah, the badger has a plastic tail as well. But it has a snap off capability to adjust the needle as well as a threading. So its really accessable. For the price I couldn't argue. The airbrush i had prior was a badger and it lasted 25 years, so i know its a trustworthy brand.

1st get your self some "colour shapers" they are like paint brushes but with rubber/silicone heads on them and they come in various stiffnesses, I got the white heads and they work well with green stuff. !

Agreed, for tabards and cloths the white ones (soft size 2). For other stuff where the GS needs a bit more working and has a hard background, like details on armour I use either the grey (firm, size 0). I also have a favourite metal tool which is great to sharp edges.

Keep up to good work, and more updates please!

So here is some pics of the FW khorne demon prince i did for a comission a long ways back. He is still in the display case. I need to take him home and give him a matte varnish. When i do that I will take some better pics. Until that time enjoy these photos! (sorry for quality)

Funny story as well, i cut myself with an exacto at the time i was painting the blade of the axe. So the blood you see on the axe is actually my blood. I put a little bit of myself into this piece Blood for the Blood God!!

Thanks reaper. I'm very pleased with the model. I picked up some of those color shapers tools. Will see if that works better with the GS

Dude! I just picked up Color Shapers too- I gotta say, they do make it easier to work with GS than standard metal ones. Now all you need is a scalpel or Xacto for fine lines so you don't displace so much material.

As for the FW Demon- I'm not usually a fan of shiny minis, either due to spray and/or paint, but I like the "wet" look on the guy. It actually suits him.

And +1 for giving effort AND blood to the model. Is all of the blood yours? LOL, holy crap! You were dabbing it on artistically, weren't you?

Thanks Izangi. I still kinda wanna take away the shine. Though i agree it suits him nicely. Kinda like hes a sweaty mess from giving the beatdown.

Yeah, the blood is all mine hahaha. I let it pool up on my finger and dipped my paintbrush in it. Kinda narsty but it makes him unique lol

Yea and it makes him more badass. I agree that the shiney parts don't distract the way that effect usually does and those skulls did turn out really nice. Great job, Chrono

So it's been quite a while since I have posted anything. Have been very busy with both life and in the gaming world. I decided to finally finish my Chaos Demons army and I also picked up a new army. DEATHWING. But I'm theming them as an elite deathwatch team. I have everything purchased for the army, just gotta get around to putting them all together.

The army consists of 25 terminators, belial and 2 landraiders. Below you will see some WIP shots of them and then a couple finished guys including the apothecary. I'm trying to make every model converted in some way. Its a long process

I also added some new units to my demons army. Below you can also see my flamers, 3 of 6 are completed. I added plaguebearers and im also working on a Tzeentch Herald. This is my first custom sculpt. Pretty pleased with how his chariot is looking.

C&C always welcome

Thanks Tortured Robot, GS is a pain, but the release of the liquid GS makes it easier to work with.

Sorry WM =( not anytime soon. I shelved the termies for some time to finish the demons for this winter painting league we got going on. I will probably pick them up when spring comes around.

All the demons are awesomely demonic and evil! I love demons so I'm biased, but the green stuff disc is especially worthy of praise as its hand made and looks proper. It reminds me of some demonic sea monster manta ray type thing...

I'm back after a 9 year hiatus from the hobby. I have completely lost myself in Magic the Gathering over the past couple years, started a business, had a little baby daughter and just generally allowed life to get in the way. I had sold off all of my miniatures, which I completely regret. I am now rebuilding my collection. I have over 2000 points each of both Necrons and Thousand Sons. I really like 9th edition and look forward to the pandemic wrapping up (aren't we all) so I can put some models on the battlefield and roll some dice once again. Here are some work in progress shots.

I have only painted one model of my Thousand Sons to get a test paint scheme going. I switched over to the Necrons as the units are simpler and I want to get one army completely painted so I don't lose 10 points for showing up with a bunch of grey plastic.

For the 1K sons I wanted to stick to the traditional paint scheme as I really just love it. For the necrons I wanted to do something very unique and was inspired by the color patterns of the vaporwave aesthetic. For everything I am painting going forward I will be using Zenethil lighting and airbrush techniques along with NMM colors. I hope you enjoy this new journey and thanks for stopping by!

Thanks for tuning back in Arakasi. I finished basing my Skorpekh Destroyer Lord, i really love the finished look of these guys, very unique. I printed the bases myself on my Ender 5 3D printer.

Up next I am working on my first squad of 10 warriors as well as some heavy destroyers.

Was really excited to paint this Doomscythe, I had to put everything else aside and knock it out. Super happy with the results.

I also picked up the Creature Caster death elemental model as a proxy for Nightbringer. Here is a WIP shot.

As promised, I wrapped up a test model of the Heavy Destroyers. Stoked with the look of the gradient. I am just loving this airbrush. I still have two more to complete for the squad.

These Necrons are stunning, I really love the grey colour transition on the Doomscythe.

What is your basing scheme going to be?

Thanks for the feedback! I have a sample here of my basing scheme for the army with my Skorpekh Destroyer Lord. I have 3D printed some tombworld bases and added some red resin crystals.

Those necrons really are gorgeous, well done! The colour transition is good, but honestly the gray/metal on the scythe is the standout for me! It's not the flashy part but the execution of it is 10/10.

Made a lot of progress in the past month or so. I was able to complete painting on my catacomb command barge. This guy was a lot of fun to paint. I was able to apply the same style from the doomscythe and it looks real sharp. I have a little overspray with the airbrush but overall i'm super happy.

I also worked through his royal escort of Lychguard. These models with the sword and board are stunning. I love how this custom dynasty color scheme translated to these fellas.

Next up are my troops that I am slogging through. I have the Royal Warden completed and commanding a squad of Immortals. I also completed a test model of my 1st Warrior blob.

On the bench is the rest of the warriors in the 10 man squad as well as another 5 man squad of immortals. Once I have these painted I will be doing basing on everything I have painted so far. If you want to check out my overall progress and see what is in the queue click the link below.

I've made some good progress on my necrons in a short time, I have about 13 units or 33% of the army fully painted and based> So I am switching over to the other half of the indomitus box and cranking out some space marines. As with most folks I get burnt out when I go too far with one project, so having multiple going at one time keeps my creative juices flowing.

I wanted to theme this army after the ever amazing Mandalorians (not the live action show, but the ones we've come to know in the animated series). These are my Deathwatch Clan Mandalorian Marines that will count as White Scars. I wanted to do something really battle worn and grungy since my necrons are crisp and vibrant. I hope you all enjoy the journey of this army as well. Thanks for tuning in!

You shouldnt get any gripes about which chapter they represent, I would have thought WS with cool helmets and the Mando Skull as their clan marking. Weathering is very nice.

Necrons certainly pop. I can't decide if I like them or not. Might be the lack of basing, but they feel unfinished with the grey being similar to a zenithal prime job at a glance. The orange-red is fantastic though

Greetings! I have been incredibly dedicated to painting almost every day, however I haven't updated the blog in quite some time. I finally got over 2000 pints of my necrons painted and based which is a good feeling.

With the new release of the Thousand Sons codex for 9th edition I have been completely reinvigorated to pick back up the project. I love playing them on the battlefield, they are highly complex but their strategy totally clicks with me. And I adore the detail of the miniatures. The lore is very amazing as well, I am nearly finished with the Ahriman Omnibus by John French, great read and I really have a Love/Hate for Ahriman.

Thanks for tuning in as always and enjoy my painting updates. The Thousand Sons project in particular really has become an opportunity to level up my painting and airbrush skills. Cheers!
