SO this thread will document my journey to next years adepticon. Wanna start early, my team has so many ideas. My teamates will be doing most of the converting of the models, where as i will be doing primarily all of the painting. We don't have definite lists right now, but were planning on grey hunter spamming with a mixture of thunderwolf lords and rune priests.
The theme of our army will be viking themed, not the cliche'd horned helm vikings but real vikings. Saxons, slavs, celts and what not. Hence the name of the army being the Son's of Odin, forged from the hand of the Nordic God himdelf
We are currently making 3d renderings of our display board, which will consist of 4 viking long ships such as this, each one holding a different sect of vikings.
Also, to differentiate each army there will be markings and face paintings (braveheart style) on each member of the force. Below is the first model of the army, a grey hunter. My plan is to add greenstuff fur around their boots to capture a sense of arctic tundra wear, also hopefully to score us some more conversion points, i really want every model in the army to look unique. Lemme know what you think, C&C welcome.

Cool! Good job on both the conversion and painting. I like the caked-on look of the warpaint especially. Often warpaint can turn out looking like tattoos instead.
What is your plan for making the viking ships appear functional on a 40k battlefield? Personally I think it would be neat if you made them hovercraft style, similar in idea to the dark eldar ships. Or are these just for display only?
Ooh another idea. Theme each lord or squad leader after a different god. One missing an eye (Odin), one wielding a hammer (Thor), maybe a valkyrie (Freya) as one of the priests if your buddy can swing the conversion. Not sure how mythological you plan on going with the theme, just an idea Though you should probably throw some valkyries in there somehow if you want your warriors to have any chance of making it to Valhalla.
Anyways I'll be following this one. I love Norse mythology and so far that one model looks great.

Thanks a lot Shas'o, the long ships will be about 2 feet by 7 inches in dimension, so a tad large for the battle field. I really like the idea of theming the HQ units after nordic gods, we have a year to perfect things, im sure we could swing some conversions.
I finished weathering the grey hunter and i painted his shoulder pad, will try to get some pictures up shortly

SO here is the picture of the greyhunter weathered. Sorry for the poor quality, you can probably see it best on the far left shot.

Well due to some drama I will no longer be going to adepticon next year. But i really enjoy this theme and modeling and painting these guys. And i'm stuck with a sw battleforce. So i will continue my work. Here is a WIP update of my wolfguard. The cape is still a major WIP, I just wanted to get the structure down, still need to smooth out the folds in the cloth, the right side of his cloak looks much better than the left. I still need to add the fur to his boots as well. Lemme know what you think!
