Hi, this is my first thread here on dakka, yay!
I have a couple of armies, and this will be updated whenever I feel like it (roughly once a week or more)
I will start the ball rolling with this guy:
I will try to get some better pics at the weekend...

Some background about the marines:
Started them when AoBR came out, I was about 12-ish and painted them badly. The result is about 1500 points worth of bad models. I have now decided to revive them, by stripping them and starting over again.
Finally set up the new camera and lighting etc, and got some better pics of my captain:
C & C welcome

Only a minor update this week.
Due to a potent combination of tiredness and laziness, I haven't taken any pictures. I did find the time to paint up a gray knight (not a spelling mistake), and I will have that up soon

All in good time flinty, all in good time
I also lied (a little bit) about the tiredness/laziness thing, and finally took some pictures.
These three are my tests. The first two are a whole test, and the third is just some refinement
Then I actually bit the bullet and bought a box. This is the first member of the squad. I have decided to just paint this squad up, instead of doing a whole army. This will allow me lavish attention on them, rather than having them at a basic tabletop standard.
So yes Flinty, my gray knights are also grey knights
Took a while to get there didn't it?

Looks good, I've also gone away from the standard metallic colour of the GK's and went for a Gray Nights theme as well. Really like the dark grey (almost black) look of your guys and hope to see more!

I don't think I'll be doing more than five, but thanks for the kind words
I just look at a pile of models and think "cba", so a small group is great, because I can lavish detail on them.
Really tempted to do a GK army, just because of the small amount of models in any army.
Pictures at the weekend!

Yet more colour to add to this seemingly lifeless thread. My local GW has been considering a pre-heresy campagn. We already have imperial fists and thousand sons. I was contemplating doing ultramarines, but metallic style, so they are no longer space smurfs, but SHINY space smurfs.
I also did a test for thousands sons, but it looks more like a word-bearer.
Anyway, on with the pictures
And the ultra-smurf:
Enjoy, C & C encouraged!

I have decided to go with ultrasmurfs, so I have been attempting to sculpt helmets to look like the ones in the artwork. It is a pain in the , but I continue...
I also did some scouts, but they were a test run for the camo, hope you like!

Your camo looks great! How did you do it? I'm a big fan of those helmets too - any chance you've got access to any grey or brown stuff though? They both tend to hold edges better than the green, so might be better for working on armour
I don't understand why your thread is so quiet! Only thing I can think of is that your photo quality isn't amazing - it would be easier to see detail if you cropped out some of the extra space. It might be worth changing the title too - I think you'd get more interest for "pre-heresy marines" than " 40k". Just some tips for more traffic, I love your models

Thanks guys! The camo was a mix of knarloc green, calthan brown and bleached bone drybrushed over a chaos black undercoat in a random pattern.
I am looking in to getting brown or grey stuff some time in the near future, and I will crop the pictures next time I post.

Apologies for the lateness. My GCSE's have smashed in to my life, and have not left space for anything else much. However, with "Study" leave begining today, I figured I would base up the model I painted for a friend, Mr. Eddie Turner!
(The shoulder pad is black because I cannot remember his chapter symbol, but it will be added at a later date)
The pictures are blurry because they are rushed, and I am lazy.
For the base I added some fine wood, and some melting snow from Baking Powder. First time with this technique, really happy with how it turned out.
More pictures will be up soon, looking more like warhammer and less like UFO shots.
C&C welcome!

Quick question: Does anyone have any experience with 4th edition marines. A local hobby club is running a pre-heresy campaign, and we feel it would be better to do it with 4th ed and the traits, as well as removing some of the new tech. It needs to be 1000 points, but is limited by the types of equipment available at the time, which is getting on my nerves. Some have recommended using csm as it only has tech available pre-heresy, as long as you steer clear of the daemons and such, but I am unsure
I am a complete n00b on this subject, having come in to marines just prior to 5th ed codex, and having never played csm, and would appreciate some help on the subject.
Thanks!

Greetings.
This week I have been experimenting with stripping, with varied results. It was boiling yesterday, so I decided to get out of my hobby hole and do the stripping outside.
I was happy to discover that my local shop stocked both Dettol Disinfectant and Fairy Power Spray, so I decided to test out both.
I warn you that results were varied, and I was pretty impatient, so the test models look a little crap. Fortunately, they are AoBR marines I painted when I started painting, so I don't care.
This is the stuff I used. The brown stuff really smells, but I left it outside, so I didn't really notice it that much.
This is both marines covered in the respective substances. Dettol on the left, Fairy Power Spray marine on the left (Fairy marine for now)
Fairy marine after 5 minutes covered in the spray stuff.
After 10 minutes, and some vicious scrubbing, this was the result. I know I was impatient, but I can see how it would work with more time left.
This is the Dettol Marine having a bath!
Heads-up warning, this stuff smells really bad, so leave it outside if possible.
This is a blurry picture of the Dettol Marine after an hour , rinse, scrubbing, and another hour rinsing. It worked really well, But again it was rushed, so I will be more patient next time.
I will update with more progress, and hopefully pictures of my captain. C&C Welcome!

@Kenshin - I know how you feel, it does get a little dull after a while.
UPDATES!
I have been working on a captain for my upcoming Pre-Heresy Ultramarines, He is now finished to a point where he is tabletop standard. He may get re-done, but not any time soon.
Captain Orar, 13th legion Ultramarines
I am aware of the awkwardness of the "U", but I'm happy saying that it is dented from heavy use.
C&C welcome, next week I should have his honor guard finished, or at least partly finished

I see you live in the UK.
GCSE's are the worst part of high school.
A-levels (if that's what you are goin gonto next year) are even worse.
For stripping, i suggest Tesco brand 'all-purpose' cleaner.
It got a marine down to barebone plsatics, and didnt harm the plastic in any way shape or form.
Good luck with your exams!

That's a great pose with the legs, and nice to see a clearer pic. Maybe invest in gw magic washes; a healthy dose of badab black will add shadow, or asurmen blue for depth. Try to keep a line of black primer showing through at joins to keep it crisp, and maybe try some highlights with a 50/50 of silver and your blue. I like your efforts on the sword, really ambitious, and the base is great.
Also, a-levels. As long as your doing English, that's fine

It's already had two asurmen blue washes, that's how I get the blue, but I'll try one with badab black to start with. I'll also try the highlighting. The thing is this army has to be relatively fast to paint, and easy, due to my laziness. I can just wash it and leave it for 10 minutes, then come back and add another layer. I am not doing english at A Level, because I can barely do it at GCSE

 not good enough!
Quick and easy: drybrushing. Simple as. Prime black, drybrush mid blue, drybrush light blue, job done. Arguably no need to ink, either. Gryphonne Sepia on the bronze btw will look good.

Sorry for the late post. I have been finishing my GCSE's etc, but I have managed to complete a tactical squad, mostly based on the assault squad bodies, because I hade them lying around already sprayed black, and I figured they look cool now, so it was a worthy sacrifice.
So now, in all their shininess, Alpha Squad!
I felt like making my sergeants clear and easy to spot, so the others will be of a similar theme.
This is a meltagun I made by slicing apart a flamer, "inspired" by this:
http://www.heresy-online.net/forums/showthread.php?t=16567
These guys still need some grass on the base, and some have scripts and logo's that need to be painted, but they are good enough for now.
@inmygravenimage - I have washed these with badab black first, but it is a little difficult to see.
I should have another update with Bravo Squad next week, when I should have finished them, maybe
