Another attempt at running a blog. I don't have much hope I'll be able to maintain it to a decent level so we'll have to do with erratic, sporadic updates resulting from my short attention span and rather stormy kind of approach to work.
In fact the very first thing here is a prime example of my drifting-on-an-ocean-in-a-nutshell-without-a-paddle mindset as I actually got a bit lost. Actually not a bit. A lot actually.
I've got myself the new fancy Wraithlord kit. I always wanted to get one to make it like those kung-fu ones floating on CMON jumping on a Carnifex with a katana above his head. The model looked very poseable (FF is telling me it's not a real word - he's an American so he knows better) and had clean, nice lines.
So, the kit arrives, I unpack it and... well, somehow it turned into this. Remember, I just wanted to repose the Wraithlord.
At this point I'm not sure if it's a Dark Eldar warmachine, some strange AT-43 Therian machine or maybe a Slaneesh Demon Engine. The last option is quite tempting as I could mount two large blaster type speakers on those "ears" above the torso and I'm (currently at least) planning to make the arms bifurcated.
I love it already!!!! Give into temptation, that thing has Slaanesh written all over! Make that leathal siren turn guts into mush with her sonic sonatas.
Haha, seems like your reposing project turned into something quite excellent.
Personally, I think you should keep it as a Wraithlord, just a harlequin version. That's what it made me think. I mean, who knows what shenanigans dead harlies get up to?
Harlequin seems the best way to go with this.
This is quite exquisite to be honest. Though the actual kit is not bad. A bit static maybe, but not bad. This though, is a fantastic change.
Wow, that pose and delicateness makes it ideal to stay as Eldar, Harlequin would be a cool way to go but I think that would look cool even in normal Craftworld colours.
Wow, very fluid and haunting. I have to second/third/fourth the idea of a Harlequin Wraithlord. I don't know what your painting chops are like, but if they're close to your ability to convert, you could do some fantastic things with a Harlequin scheme. Please try to stay focused on this project for a bit and keep us updated
http://silenthill.wikia.com/wiki/File:Scar.jpg Saw what you did, and Immediately thought it looked like a silent hill Boss from Homecoming. I think its the blank china doll looking face.
I'd be tempted to tell you to convert it to a Slaaneshi daemon-engine (I'm on a daemonic trend right now), but I think you've captured in a nice fashion the Harlequin spirit...
The mask of course, but also the various poses and slender limbs... I think you get it right!
Harlequin wraith lord is the only way to got. can't do anything else. Just imagine that with checks all over the head piece and all the wires multi-couloured...Awesome!
I see the overwhelming majority goes with Harlequins. Fine, fine...
Maybe you have some ideas what to do with those shoulder pods now that I won't be mounting speaker blasters there? They look kinda out of place now and I'd want to avoid mounting weapons there, they'd interfere with the general flow of the model too much...
LunaHound wrote:Is it a Safe Guard? or mix of Safe Guard + I Robot?
The face could be from I Robot though it wasn't a conscious decision. Since I had to google Safe Guard and found nothing familiar I must assume inspiration came from somewhere else... In fact I don't think I can single out any particular source of inspiration. Giger would probably be a good start.
I would like to see something like rather over done shoulder pads. You could then paint it in a nice check pattern.Or perhaps make them giant jigsaw pieces,I have no idea why though.
Wow, happiness truly is a thread by His Masters Voice.
You need to just walk around and take pictures of your junk drawers or counter tops or something to balance things out, especially if they are filled with things like this.
I've sculpted it. It's Pro Create and Milliput, thats why it looks a bit like plastic.
Technically it's not a real update (Dear God, that would be crazy if I could produce an update two days after making the log) but I was doodling up some concepts for the weapon. I'm thinking about some fancy missile launcher that works like a gatling Harlequin gun (the one that has rending). BOOM -> shreds.
I love it so far. Number 2 looks to be the best if you want to stick with the idea of a missile launcher-type weapon. It's angles are reminiscent of the launchers on the marine landspeeder. The others either look too much like wings or funky speakers.
1, not so much. 3, NO! and 4 doesn't quite work for me either... 2 is best, then 5, then 6.
My first thought was: Therian. Add some spider-eye lenses around the face & it'd be done. It's too creepy to be Harlequin, and not quite organic enough to be Slaaneshi; I imagine it as some Dark Eldar crypto-wraithlord. Or even worse, a giant Necron femme-corpse.
A small update. Sorry for the black and white photos, I forgot to turn color on. Feet done, arms mostly done, base/plinth mostly sculpted. I'm still wavering whether I should give her any weapons or maybe leave her as she is now. Or maybe I should replace the 'ears' with shoulder pads mimicking the shape of the head...
I like it quite a bit, and I think it would be best if you just made a bunch of magnetized options for the back weapon system instead of dwelling on it for too long.
Keep up the good work, and I hope to see you post some total scratch work soon, you are more than capable of handling the whole project with your own materials.
I think I found that pattern on a royalty free pictures site and made a custom pattern out of it in Photoshop. The curves have a nice flow and go well with the overall shape of the model.
His Master's Voice wrote:Well, for a moment I wanted to fit LED's there but I'm just insane, not mad, so yes, I want to paint in the ambient lightning.
, well put mate!
I really like the way this is looking, and I hope to see it painted up all fancy soon . If you can pull that paintjob of I think this model will end up looking amazing.
That is just amazing. I honestly think you should leave it the way as is and make it a display piece. The shoulders I think throw things waaay too much.
If it were me, the most I would do is a Lady Deathstrike esque wraith-claw hand, and just one hand. probably the one thats in the rear position for a nice sweeping look. Just my two cents.
Very nice and fluid! I like the paint job idea and it is very different from the standard wraithlords and is alot cooler than the old harlequin wraithlord.
I second the magnetised shoulders idea, maybie and long and pointy shoulder pad sort of thing?
It reminds me of something from 'The Fifth Element'. I'm not quite sure why, maybe its the head. Seriously cool model though. I also like the concept paintjob.
Just personal opinion here but imo, the missile designs don't fit with the beautiful model you've made. I think they are much too angular, rather, too bulky for the current frame. They don't have that sleek feel to them that the rest of the model has. Personally I see a weapon akin to a brightlance on the back, what I mean by that is a longer weapon rather than a boxy one.
Still, kick ass model.
So, I was making some tubes to finish the Lady's arms yesterday and since they take a while to set, I searched for something to do in the meantime. I grabbed an old armature I did a while ago and never used and went to town on it. This is what it looks like so far
So, now that I have it mostly sculpted, I started to wander what I want to be in the end. The thing is rather large, a tad under 60mm if you add the head so I can either make it a big thing in WH or do an Inquisitor scale display model.
So far I came up with two ideas. And, since I probably won't be using any of the weapon designs I gave you and your voting will be in vain, you can now decide what's this one going to be.
The first one is a big mute for renegade militia - a guy gifted with great stature that just won't stop growing until he's 100% muscle and 0% brains. Fitted with an Arco Flagellant system for extra combat effectives and with a handler that keeps him from wandering into mines and bomb craters when inactive.
The second pic is a 54mm (more like 58) Marauder, like the ones you see in WAR. Billowing cloths with chaos marks, some mutations, scarification, gladiator style gauntlet etc.
I like the idea of a master-blaster type of concept, but I think you should try and do a bit more with the "trainer".
Perhaps make a gremlin like creature that is standing on the shoulders with a cattle-prod type of deal. I can't imagine a chain being enough to stop such a huge creature.
Something special with the head would be cool as well, you could even make the head the "trainer" and have it obviously be separate piece. Have the head on spider legs maybe, walking around on the shoulders poking the beast with a set of syringes (for different moods) and tazers to redirect it's movement.
Furthermore you could even have controls attached to the beasts brain or spine, and a seat for a driver of sorts on the back of the neck.
I have been doing some "aesthetic" research, and I spent some time running through hands, demons and giants. This one of the more inspiring works I have found, and I am a really big fan of the left hands weapon style. Like a giant spike boxing mitt, very cool IMHO. Add future to that and you have a few tubes that make it a super-power electric bang-fist. The axe is quite nice as well, if not a bit too fancy.
This is a very nice style, I like the balance of the "paws" and the rather slender body. You are working with a rather classic form so this may not be so helpful. It does inspire me to think of mayan art-work though, and the club (half-hidden though it is) would be a very cool weapon for a renegade giant.
Wehrkind wrote:Wow, happiness truly is a thread by His Masters Voice.
You know I think I said that last time
Overjoyed to see more of your stuff HMV, fakking wonderful work as always. I do hope the big guy turns out to be the big mutie dude - echoes of Mean Machine Angel / Master Blaster and all that
The bad one is that I tried to mock-up the renegade concept and it didn't work. Sometimes an idea that looks sound on paper just doesn't translate well into 3d. In this case the body was not working with the rest of the visuals. Though luck.
The good one is that I will be doing the renegade mute, just in a slightly different way. I need to sculpt a new body, in a different pose for him - more hunchback, more twist, less striding.
That leads to the second good news (well, news anyway), as I went with the marauder concept. You can see WIP's somewhere below.
The Lady is 99% finished (she needs a few more tubes and thats it). The paints arrived and I'm ready to paint. Or I would be if not for the fact my undercoat gesso is still somewhere in the Warp, called The Post Office in these parts. So as soon as I receive it I'm starting on her.
a large muscly man wearing a hockey mask? He needs a machete! Just goes to show you that camps in all time periods, in all universes are haunted by Jason!
I love how you just sculpt up awesome looking bodies while waiting for other crap to dry. Me, I go get a drink, pinch a deuce, maybe slap some paint on a model. You create a 54mm well muscled male torso from putty.
Do you still have the contact information for the daemon you traded your soul to?
I don't have any pictures right now (pretty or otherwise) but this will be fixed in a couple of days, as I finly found some time to start painting The Lady and to do other things not necessarily related to work or other human beings. Among them, a demon engine turned Carnifex.
So, not to leave an empty post here's a peek at the Doombull I'm working on. Here's a YouTube vid but I'll try to do a rotating gif. If it doesn't work hit the HQ button, it seems to fix the issue.
Is it just me or does that wraithlord remind you of DOG for Half Life 2? i think its the shape of the "mask" around the face and the exposed cabling haha.
Btw i want that contact info of the demon you sold your soul to also!
The face on your mino is more human than the straight-up bull heads that most sculptors use. That is really, really awesome. It looks more like a man mutated together with a bull, which makes you question the history of the model, rather than just thinking "Yep, that's a cow head on a muscley dude". In fact, it also justifies the huge muscles (must have been a mutation/blending along with the bovine facial features).
I think he'll turn out as some kind of a demon engine, like on the mockup but it's me doing it, so hell knows what's going to happen.
I could have made a few pictures of The Lady but decided against it on the basis that a woman should be looked at either before or after she puts on her makeup. Watching her do it just doesn't feel right.
And here's another video of the mino. I'll have the body finished soon and then we're off to gear and junk.
Eh, YouNoob is messing with me. Here's a couple of stills while I figure out how to get this thing to work.
Overjoyed to see this blog sparked into life again HMV. The enginefex is off to a nifty start, dig that max planned for his neck socket. The mino design is rocking, looking quite strong and majestic (as opposed to the GeeDubber minos in all ways) ...
I guess I missed it, but are you printing the mino out once the design is finalized? Than accessorizing, etc on the print outs?

Good question. I'll try to make the armor and other gear in 3D and have it printed out merged with the main body though a blank print might be a good idea. I could sculpt weapon variants or do any cloth pieces (always a b*tch to do in 3D) without resorting to ZBrush. Some food for thought.
kestral wrote:How do you make the "cables"? Are they sculpted? They are very cool on the carnifex and the Lady thingy.
The cables/tubes are rolled out GS that was glued in place and sculpted over with yet more GS.
Aright, I've started to accessorize the Mino a bit (though he still needs some body building to do in the meantime).
Since a simple loincloth didn't really fit my vision of him I gave him (or rather plan to do so) some thick, engraved leather plates that go around his waist. Sort of kilt-ish, but in a good way. There's also a few armor plates appended to give me a general feel of where I want to go with them. I still don't know if I should go with the studded plates, pattern engraving or maybe leave some areas for freehand painting
In other news, I've crushed the Carnifex lower body, which gave me the opportunity to tweak the overall design. I didn't like the tail anyway and I would never force myself into changing it so go me and my clumsiness.
This is all so impressive. I especially love the work you've done on the Minotaur thus far. The weird, atrophied arms on the Carnifex are also darkly hilarious.
Right, as you can see the Minotaur is almost ready (right hand to be finished, some straps, buckles and other bling), so it's the last call for any creative input. If you like/dislike something let me know now, cos he's flying away to get printed sometime next week.
Personally I think a large cleaver style weapon may be an idea or a great mace. It's just that every minotaur I've seen has an axe. He looks a lot better than the GW ones though. Uh are you planning to put them up for sale or anything? I might be interested if you are......
Alpharius wrote:I'm DEFINITELY interested in buying one.
And more than one, if you do create additional poses...
There will be no more poses because he's *winkwink* not-at-all-a-Doombull. I want to make some slightly smaller, less blinged out guys, maybe with options for two hand weapons as well as great weapons. Shields maybe.
Remember that ZBrush sculpt I wanted to print and cast. Well, it didn't work out that well, for several reasons. First of all sculpting objects in ZBrush that will be printed at such a small scale requires a specific skill set I don't yet have. I can do decent conceptual stuff and some animation maquettes, but to sculpt even a 54 mm scale mini you need to know what you're doing. I don't. Second thing is that the current affordable tech is still not good enough for the results I need. Every sculpt below 10 cm high would need to be recasted in wax and resculpted to recreate the original detail. Not a great deal when you're already paying for the printing and wasted god knows how much time in ZBrush.
So I'm back to clay shapers and fimo and I'm doing it the old fashioned way.
I still need to make a scenic base for him. I also suck at photographing fimo due to slight translucence, so excuse the poor quality of the pics.
This is something I wanted to do since the Deff Dred kit was released. I call him Iron Git. Like Iron Man, just orky. Needs more rion plates, bolts, nuts, screws, piping and an engine on the back, but you can see how he looks.
Next time, goblin geisha and The Lady painted (the second time).
I've added some junk to the claws and back. Nothing excessive as the claws are already way over the top, we don't need them to be more clunky. I'll start riveting him tomorrow.
And here's a little side project sitting on a very WIP scenic base.
You are amazingly talented, the sculpting you're doing is top notch work!
I'd toyed around with the idea of sculpting in Zbrush and 3D printing to get the desired results - but it seems you've looked into it and found it not as exciting or accurate as I thought it might be.
That's a little upsetting, but I guess if you can sculpt in Zbrush, technically you should be able to sculpt outside of it too.
I wouldn't want to discourage you with your attempts at 3d printing. I mostly blame myself for not making the sculpt as it should be made for 3d printing and maybe I've just checked out the wrong company for my print services.
In any case, doing that mino in ZBrush allowed me to get a much better understanding of what I want to achieve in more traditional materials.
Iron Git finished. Well, the kitbash stage is done, I still face the daunting task of painting him. I was thinking about a black-yellow scheme, something Bad Moon-ish maybe.
Here's another sculpt I'm working on. At this point it's supposed to be a Rat Ogre. The unfinished arm will have a huge cleaver like blade grafter to it. I still haven't decide on the head. It might be a normal rat head or a gasmasked one.
And this here is my first 30mm female sculpt test. I wanted to see if I could do female anatomy at that level and it turned out acceptable for the first try. It lacks motion and there are some anatomy hiccups here and there but nothing that cannot be fixed in future sculpts. Click for larger view.
Added the cleaver arm to the Rogre. He's still missing a few armor plates and sockets here and there, and of course the tail, but I'll be baking him soon.
And here's a very rough start to another project, a Keeper of Secrets-esque demon.
I'll probably slice the arms off and have them repositioned to match the stance better later.
If there is one thing I think a sculpter must play to at this scale, it is exaggeration. All of your sculpts are quite beautiful, my only real criticism would be that witht the female KoS, Her ribcage seems a bit too wide with her broad shoulders to be unmistakably female. Currently she is in a more heavy female bodybuilder form, but if that is what you are going for you nailed it!
gameandwatch wrote:If there is one thing I think a sculpter must play to at this scale, it is exaggeration. All of your sculpts are quite beautiful, my only real criticism would be that witht the female KoS, Her ribcage seems a bit too wide with her broad shoulders to be unmistakably female.
A valid point. I've already sliced off the arms and I'm slimming the torso (and the arms with it) to match the hip line proportions correctly.
I have a question! If your using fimo to sculpt, surely that means you have the chance of smushing your beautiful works or art by any sudden clumsiness. So, why do you use Fimo over other substances like Green stuff?
That Rat Ogre is fantastic, as someone who has recently discovered the lameness that is the rat ogres that come in the box set I salute you for sculpting one that is truly sinister and horrifying
beautiful work the sculpting is amazing as is your 3d modelling
i would love to try my hand at zbrush but I'm not that good and its well out of my budget. I've only fiddled around with some free-ware apps that while along the same lines aren't as good
Actually, it's not. Love that Deff Dread, but any chance of a size-comp pic with something next to it? Although I wouldn't blame you for not wanting to sully a pic of your work by putting another model in it.
I have, like, a bazzilion projects open right now, but I did manage to put some paint on the Deff Dred conversion so here we go. Size comparison included.
I was trying out some new sculpting techniques on larger scale stuff, chipping away at this guy for a while already and somehow got a huge horned rattish dude so I just went ahead and gave him hooves to complete the Vermin Lord look. I still need to fix some baking damage and add a few details here and there, but it's pretty close to being finished...
His Master's Voice wrote:Yes, the illusive update has arrived...

wow, has to be one of the coolest ork creations ever! really nice job on the posing, whole build etc!
Finally, some real progress on the my personal Keeper of Secrets. The bone cartilage texturing did gave her a rather generous hip line, but I like that in a woman anyway, so no big deal. Once I have the hands in place I can decide if she maybe needs some Queen of Blades style bone wings/appendages/mandibles coming out from the back.
hi there. this is AMAZING work. can i ask some tech questions?
1/ you're using fimo for the sculpts - is it a special grade of fimo? i'm doing all my scratch sculpts in green/brown stuff atm - i'm thinking of trying a different medium out as i waste an enourmous amount of putty, even when being careful with mix amounts
2/ the wraith lord you made incorperates plastic gw bits - is that fimo you've used? will the plastic survive the baking process?
@Earthbeard - She's just under 16 cm high to the top of the horns.
@azekio - I use Fimo soft. You can get it in 56g/2oz packages for $3 or something like that. Just remember that generally the darker the color the harder the compound, though you buy softening agent from the same company to alleviate this.
The Wraithlord doesn't contain any Fimo, everything was sculpted with Pro Create (gray parts) and Milliput (white parts). Fimo optimally bakes at 230F and I don't think plastic would survive that.
HMV, glad to stumble onto your blog and see what you've been up to over the last 6 months or so. Rat ogre is excellent, as is the marauder and that mino you were working on back when. The keeper is certainly interesting, though you may have lost me with the bone ridges and alien-ness of her, despite the strength of the design otherwise. Sadly I think the vermin lord falls short for me, something funky about the long arms, the awkward crotch area - I don't need demonic rat junk, but a loincloth maybe? or something? - and lack of any kind of weapon to represent the signature DOOMGLAIVE he's supposed to be rocking. Did I miss why it was done in red putty? That's kind of neat in itself.
As an aside, have you put anything into production that I can send you money for yet? I saw you weren't real thrilled with the mino production results, not sure if I've missed other designs you've finalized.
I've got another KoS "in neglige" sitting on my desk so she might be more up your alley when I'm finished with her. The so called Vermin Lord was just a test piece for new sculpting techniques and it kinda gravitated towards a Skavenesque feel with the ratlike head. I might get around to making a proper VL in the future, but I've got way to much on my schedule as it is, so it won't be soon.
Back with some orky wackiness. There's a demon sculpt coming too. Yes, I know everybody and their dog are doing greater demon sculpt these days. So what?
Oh, yeah, there's also a Nazi Vk modded trooper siting on my desk along with some reallllllly tiny Abrams tanks.
Caved in to the 50% off offer by Corvus Belli and bought the Aleph army pack. What fine miniatures these are, the detail is astounding. Of course me being me, I couldn't resist the temptations to make my own Maruts a bit more personal.
Welcome back! That rat ogre looks awesome. I really like the pose you've achieved with him pouncing forward. He'd look quite terrifying with a bunch of cables and skaven-bits pertruding out of him. It's good to have you back, looking forward to seeing what you have in store for us!
Fantastic! As usual your musculature is spot on. And don't worry about leaving the thread quiet, I am pretty sure there are a ton of us waiting with baited breath for you next creation whether the updates are days or months apart
So the body is finished and I even managed to get a half decent looking rock texture on the base. I'll need to figure out what kind of Skaven gizmo to put on him now...
Sculpting phase finished. I went for a more old school look, without any visibly mechanical parts, but I'll probably make a more Skryre looking Rogre too in the near future.
I have this bad boy undercoated and ready for some paint. Want to make him look like my girlfiend's late albino pet rat, only with more gore and less cuddly...
I've run into some troubles with the color scheme I've chosen for the RatOgre so he's on the waiting list for now. In the mean time, after playing the Space Marine demo, my love for orks has been reinvigorated and I decided to do a test paint scheme for my future sculpting projects.
Just a quickie to test out some idea for flesh and armor tones. I think I'll stick with the white markings and gray green armor. It would be a nice break from the usual garish colors orks are known for.
The detail is amazing, but he needs some sort of color. He is just kind of generic ork at the moment, I'd love to see you take on one of the clans colors.
Yeah, but that was kind of the point really. I don't particularly like most clan color combinations for painting, maybe with the exception of Bad Moon and Evil Suns, so I tried to paint the colors I liked instead. I've got a bunch more of those half converted orks so I'll probably come up with some variations. In the mean time, have a Sniktch.
I kinda messed up the rogre and made him uncastable. Won't make the same mistake again.
Okay, here's a WIP of my first Space Marine (the computer game) style Nob. I've made sure to biggerize him enough to do the game (and lore) justice. While I like GW Nobz, especially the ones made by Nelson, I think they're short selling the ork race as a whole by not playing the bigger=better route. I'd love to see those Warbosses the size of a Dreadnought we read about in the fluff but never actually get in miniature form. In fact, I'd love to see one so much, I'll probably make one myself.
I just went through your gallery after seeing an image of yours on the main-page autoblog....
Your work is masterful and humbling my friend. Your sculpting skill is evident for anyone to see... But your design sense and aethetics, not to mention mastery of proportion and anatomy are things that take someone from being a great sculptor to a true artist.
I salute you sir, and will be eagerly awaiting more of your work -

That is the best Hulking Ork dread I have seen. Not one of these Kit-bash styles ones (which have their place) but a very menacing look, I was actually reminded of a Stylised Batman like Arkham Asylum or the older animated series.
And it's time for the customary Christmas update. No work + everyone sleeping due to overeating = me being bored and dredging up a box of Kabalite warriors. Here's a test piece to check if what I want to do makes any sense.
The test piece turned out rather well, so here's the first proper member of my future warband (Necromunda scale, as I con't think I could manage 50+ conversion like that with my attention span). I decided to use the nominally male torso because a) I like my females moderately endowed in the chest region, b) the female torsos on the Kabalite sprue are rather bad and make the model looks as if it suffered from sever chest deformation. In any case, the head and general posture should be enough to denote her as, well, her. She'll be the second in command. The leader will have to wait until I get my hands on some Incubi parts.
So I'm waiting for some Dark Eldar bits to make a few more members of my warband, and in the mean time I decided to tackle an old favorite of mine. I bought it as soon as it came out in finecast and squirreled it away somewhere, only to find it while doing Chirstmas cleaning. Here goes.
Any chance you could tell me what the original model the horse was before you worked your magic? would be cool to see how far from the original it ends up
Thanks for the updates HMV, thrilled to see more of your stuff as always. Fantastic reposes on the evil space elves, but really dig that rebuild of Dorghar. For whatever reason that uber-demo-pony was always one of my favorite chaos beasties all on his own (and not just because horses are intimidating as feth - wasn't there a super evil horse somewhere in the anime Curse of the Undead Yoma? Anyway that comes to mind )
Yeah, I always found percherons to be rather scary, with all their muscle and sinew and size. My neighbor owned one. Black as night. He (the owner) was 6' tall and he could barley see over the horse's back.

Awesome stuff as usual man. I would love to see a time lapse video of your work, just because you can not possibly actually do it as effortlessly as it appears from here. but then, you probably do, and I would probably have to throw myself off my balcony. So, thanks for that.

I do sculpt fast, but I wouldn't say it's effortless. There's quite a bit of swearing involved to be true and a decent amount of randomness which, admittedly, often results in good effects.
So I finished the mounted Chosen, but felt my painting skills might have gotten a bit rusty lately, so picked a warm up mini of a slightly smaller scale. Unfortunately I couldn't get my photographing kit out for this one so I'll probably have to do another round of pictures when I get it sorted out.
Great blog mate, read through it a few times over the last few weeks/months and it's very inspiring. Oh and is that the best Deff Dread ever? Yes, yes it is.
This is something I was planning for a long time now, and just recently found a sliver of time to get to it. Experimenting with forms and proportions is always fun, and demons of all kind never get old.
I was going to say I'll be making a couple more, but we all know I have issues with finishing my projects. If I get this one to prototype cast stage, I'll be happy.
Not sure. I can probably do the test cast in a couple of days, but I don't have the time or resources are hand to produce a larger amount of casts, not to mention take care of the actual sales. I might have some third party do all the dirty work here.
Okay, so I decided to pull out some dusty Infinity stuff I bought a while ago and go ahead with a project I wanted to do since I first found out about Infinity - Deunan and Briareos tag team. Now a TAG team. Well, Birareos would count for TAG really. If you don't know what Appleseed is, google it, but for the love of God, look for the original manga, not the dreadful movies.
Here's what I got right now - Unxia with Chandra's head makes perfect Deunan. Now to figure out if there's an Infinity mini that can stand in for Briareos or if I'll have to sculpt one.
Anyway, I think Ajax will make a decent base. I'd prefer a bit more Aridadna look to it, but I guess I can figure something out and the size is just about perfect.
Right, just bought the Ajax. Does anyone have a part breakdown for that guy? Unxia was the first metal miniature I converted in a long time and my fingers still hurt, the thought of cutting that beefy chunk of metal is filling me with utter dread right now.
Edit: Just found it. Well, there will be sawing but not as much as I feared.
Took me just under a year to get back to actually doing something with the miniatures I buy, rather than just squirrelling away the things I'm compelled to buy for whatever reason.
Here's something I just found laying at the bottom of the sprue box. How did I manage to not lose any parts of that project is beyond me.
Excuse the poor photo quality, white resin is not friends with my cam skills.
Not sure if I'll leave him as a vanilla loyalist, or make him into a renegade version. Maybe something in line with the Chosen from the current starter...
Well, the prototype is more or less finished. Now I just need to wait till my new compressor gets here so that I can get my airbrush working.
I learned quite a few things here. The overall proportions are okay, though some tweaking will be needed around the waist area, shoulder pads and arms before I can do a proper master mould. I'm thinking about doing it in 3d and then offloading the printing and moulding to a professional. We'll see how it goes.
I can't seem to find a standard marine anywhere, so a GK will have to do.
Unfortunately, my new compressor is being shipped from Japan. No painting for three more weeks... Guess I'll have to do some more converting while I wait.
I don't really have any IG models to put next to this guy, sorry. All I can manage is a Dark Eldar kabalite warrior or an Empire state trooper. Well, a Witch Elf too, but that comes with a scenic piece of rock underfoot.
I'm close to finishing an upscaled DE warrior for my =I= warband, so that could serve as a good benchmark on how I'm rescaling my models.
My compressor is still in the air, figuratively speaking, and I can't be bothered to undercoat my models by hand any more, so we'll have to do with more converting
The first model from the new Warzone range I touched, even though the minis were laying around on my desk for months. It's a Capitol hero I converted to look the way I wanted the Venusian Rangers to look like. Well, more or less. It's more of a test piece as I have a unit of Capitol Infantry I plan on turning into Rangers and I had to try out a few ideas. Still not sure on what the right shoulder armour shape is and the torso armour could use a tweak or two as well.
The leg armour is still missing and he'll be armed with a Gehenna Puker when I'm done.
And now I really want to sculpt my own Nepharite...
Well, here we go. The prototype has served it's purpose and now I have in my possession a Dainton Scale Marine. I know the title says truescale, but I don't know if truescale is a thing, while Paul Dainton certainly is, so that's how I'm going to call my marines. Hist artwork was the first to truly introduce me to the concept of a Marine that isn't a deformed dwarf and as such, will always remain the quintessential visual representation of marines in my mind.
GW, or rather FW, only recently decided to release Marines that match the aesthetic established by Dainton, in the form of Primarchs. But while the models themselves are fabulous, they highlight the terrible proportions of the core troops in ways we have never seen before. And since I got heavily invested in the 30k side of 40k, I simply could not field the future Corax or Perturabo next to a bunch of midgets, not matter how well done.
Now truthfully, this is a MK7. Not entirely suitable for anything Heresy Era. Fret not, this is in fact yet another prototype, although one that I'm not more or less satisfied with and one I can have produced in numbers. I'm going to order a few more of those to keep me going on the modelling front while I finish the Crusader, Iron and Maximus marks. When those are done, the Heresy will start for real.
The Mark VII armour made its first battlefield appearance circa the Siege of Terra. The prototypes and blueprints were taken to Terra shortly before the fall of Mars. I think the Blood Angels were the first to field Mark VII, during the Siege.
Well, didn't know that. In any case, I want to do the early mars properly before returning to mk7 to fix some of the issues. It's a new experience for me, so it's going to be a little hit and miss for a while.
