It has become clear to me that the MISSILES are going to be the most expensive part of this project. Oh. Em. Gee. Barring building them out of tubing and plasticard, WHICH I HAVE NOT RULED OUT, I'm looking at $50-$60.
A good thought! Been looking at Model Rockets, eBay, toys, etc. Toys are expensive!
Most of the model rockets in the cheap range are just fins and cardboard tubs, which I could make. I am looking at making some two-stage "Deathstrike" missiles, as I already have two or three of the parts sitting around.
They're Adepticon rescues. On Sunday, tons of people set up shop to sell off their bits and pieces. I saw on table with, like, 20 chimera-hull-based IG vehicles for sale (as an example).
I know I can get at least two out of the pieces parts, and with a little scavenging, all three should be back in the air.
If you need specific parts, (for example the tail fins) the Imperial Armoury sells individual bits for pretty reasonable prices. http://www.imperialarmoury.site11.com/
They're got good service (usually delivered overseas within a week) and a good stock of IG bits.
Interesting. Any specific plans for the Valks? Will they become Vendettas?
I've just gone through pages 1 - 11, and there's some really cool stuff in here. I've taken in a bit too much to make any really specific comments, so I'll just say keep up the good work.
I occasionally "go dark", EDC, and my updates can be weekly or twice a month, depending on how much focus I can apply to the hobby.
Thanks for the sub!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Here's tonight's progress. Now, let me tell you, I really dislike how 'keyed' all the new GW models are. Things have to go in the right place, in the right order, and you REALLY have to hack them down to make them do...other things. I know, I'm the 1% whining about GW doing things to simplify selling to the 99%, but...I'm a whiner. BRING ME CHEESE.
Back to the magic:
Here's where the rear turret and alcove will go. I'm not going to build an interior (I would have started with the tractor), but I am going to install stained glass windows and a flashing LED light fixture so I can have a proper disco.
I know exactly what you mean about 'going dark' from time to time. Back to the superheavy. How tall is this going to be once completed and do you have an IG or Space marine to put next to it for scale? I repeat my earlier statement, it looks INSANE
A shot of the Ordinatus Golgotha, with a Marine and IG, for scale.
The Ordinatus is two feet long, about seven inches wide, and will end up being 15-16 inches tall.
--B.
Note: One of the reference pictures I'm working off of, the Epic Scale, painted by someone else:
I have some plastic tubes that would work perfectly as "missile" sections chief (I get for free from work...) Give me a ring when you get out of work if you want some. as for the "nosecone" for the missiles... if you make one I could make a mold to cast up more...
So, did a little more work on the rig. I built an entire rounded rear atrium/turret mount like the Epic Scale version, and hated it. I realize that there's just nothing rounded about the rest of the model (save the missiles), so I'm going with a modified Land Raider Sponson mount, and will build a quad-lascannon into it. Maybe little Luke or Han Solo can use it. Pew Pew Pew!
Added more deck work, hatches, and a ladder up one of the support columns (underneath) to give the illusion that someone, somewhere, could actually get on board this thing without, you know, Deep Strike.
First up, a mockup of a missile. This is totally a mockup, is mostly there for size and scale. I think the length of the missile is correct, and once I add the rest of the missile pieces and the fins, it'll be bulky enough for my tastes. Yes, this is a pair of Deathstrike Missiles stacked.
You know, if we are going for a more accurate rocket size, they need to be even bigger that your second rocket. Look at the epic model and compare the missiles to the tracks. The missiles are longer then the tracks. Plus, you either go big or go home. I guarantee you won't be happy with the results if your missiles aren't big enough. Just ask Misses Git?
OH BURN!
Sorry, that was uncalled for, but any ways. Bigger missiles Briancj! BIGGER MISSILES!
No, you can't reduce the number of missiles in exchange for size. (sorry Ice) Getting bigger missiles is fine, but I'd suggest keeping the same density and arrangement as shown in the Epic model.
I looked at the Corporal and the Nike-Hercules. The problem is that the cost of the kits (6) puts this project into the silly zone.
I'm going to pick up some 1/2" and 5/8" pipe connectors from Home Despot, and increase the length of the double-deathstrikers, because I've already expended capital on 'em, and I have a $25 Home Despot gift card lying around.

Preach the truth of the Omnissiah, Brother Gitsplitta
It is one of the gun nozzles out of the Shadowsword superheavy kits I'm scavenging, plus part of a light fixture from the city terrain sprue. And, of course, a 10x10 Lego Radar Dish, because they're the only people who make things like that.

-How the hell did I miss a 13 page thread of yours Brian?? THis thing HAS to drop enough pie-plates to sterliize a 4x8' table!!
Uhm...
I am Ninja?
The solution to my missile not being long enough was found amoungst the bits of the Shadowsword Sprue, and fits like MAGIC. I love having bitz.
Thankfully, a store in the UK sells JUST THIS ONE BIT. Took a bit of searching to find it, but enough to extend all six missiles are on their way, along with some more shells and a Baneblade crew. Just 'cause if I'm going to order from the UK, I might as well make it worth the shipping cost.
The shells will be used in a future project, tentatively titled 'Brian builds a full interior for a Leman Russ'. Regretfully, to do this project correctly, I need an OLD SCHOOL Leman Russ. Like, really old school.
Digression: I found an original, boxed, OOP Leman Russ, with decals and flags and original 'accessories' sprue for a reasonable price. It has been purchased.
my theory is if i ever go to a games day, why not try?? i dont think im gd worthy but if i can make some oddly cool model and paint it decent, who knows and luckly for us, the us golden daemon has fewer amazing painters than the euro ones
Just encountered this thread, and all I have to say is that's it's pretty super awesome. The interiors of the tanks are especially cool, as well as the highly individual guardsmen and the longer Leman Russ. Run on sentence? Yes. Deserved? Yes. And now, this huge Golgotha... that's really cool, especially in light of that other shown Golgotha made of a baneblade, the missile launcher, and a fancy paint job. Your's is already turning out to be so much cooler. I can't wait till this monstrosity is completed.
By the way, if you were still looking for the rules side of the Golgotha, while same table fighting might not be too handy (except with a huge board), you could have it as the objective in a scenario where it's firing its missiles one at a time and must be stopped, lest another battle have constant death raining. Just a possibility, though.
Thanks, K! Yeah, this is really more of a display piece than anything else. I mean, the Ordinatii are all designed for a specific purpose, if you read the fluff, so mine should be no different. I am looking at the Badab War era, due to my Adepitcon's team theme, so I'm building a slightly "Upgunned" Golgotha, designed to plow it's way into a fortified area, and then launch.
Is your "Grandfather" an eccentric old man who hangs around a salvage yard that has an old police phone box and he tries to teach science to children, etc. etc. etc.

Gentlemen, as you know, our business is Rivets...and business is GOOD.
The madness starts.
Rivets, rivets, rivets, and some rivets. Need a smaller rod, but you go with what you've got.
Aside from some treads, the trak-tor is done. Twin-linked Lascannon in the Turret, two twin-linked hull-mounted Heavy Bolters. Yes, the Turret swivels, and the lascannons elevate.
I added some engine exhaust tubes, smoke launchers, and a comms array to the tractor, plus some tow hooks, and then put on all the treads. NOW she's finished, and ready to haul some heavy metal around the tabletop.
@Dysartes: Yes, I put smoke launchers on an Ordinatus. Since the tractor can detach, I figure I'd be nice to the crew, and give them a chance to run away.
@Gits: The HB's don't elevate (although I probably could have...), just the lascannons in the turret.
@Flinty: I dunno. I'll have to build a shelf JUST TO STORE IT. No, but seriously, the whole thing separates into four pieces, and I'll kit out a cardboard box and foam for it.

PS: @Randy, I do have those 'fuel barrels' from the superheavies, I could make wet navy destroyer-like "Depth Charge" launchers, except they'd chuck SMOKE BARRELS...

OF AWESOME
I always wondered about your Avatar, is it from the password in Deus Ex (as there is one in the Boat section that's Reindeer Flotilla) or from somewhere else..
Awesome blog
You might want to try 1/48 or even 1/35 patriot missiles for that thing.
But it is a thing of beauty your scale model roots serve you well.
I may have thought Reindeer Flotilla was a band...
Automatically Appended Next Post: I think the rivets are going to look great on that behemoth by the way - they're already adding a great layer of superdetail
i stumbled via the main page into your thread mate... your recent project... wow...that is one huge fething ...thingy... (i am not up to date with the fluff to that tho...) but it sure looks huge and powerfull! ...
just well i admit ...scrolled through your thread... very cool painting and lots of super cool conversion work going on here!...and you have the love for detail! eyecandy all over!
so i will now have to keep up with the rambling here too it seems...
oh and by the way...whenever i read your name... that old comic character brainiac comes to my mind...
...
dunno why... must be me getting old and too dumb to read properly^^
So, the way things are shaping up, I'm looking at mounting four lascannon/havy flamer moduls on the corners of the Carriage, plus some twin-linked heavy stubbers for giggles, on the back deck. Some searchlights. So, it'll have two twin-linked lascannons, four single las-cannons, four twin-linked heavy flamers, and a pair of twin-linked heavy stubbers.
Oh, and some missiles. But those aren't important.
Oh, I guess they are.
What SHOULD the missiles do? BOLS/Fly Lords have a pair of Armageddon templates per missile, no cover save, removes 'organic' terrain under the blast (trees, etc.)
Thoughts? Should I lean more towards the Deathstrike "Countdown" approach that evaporates a table? Explosions powerful enough to negate invulnerable saves? (suck it, demons) 1d6 structure points? "Breach hull, all die", even had it underlined?
Well I think it needs a deathstrike countdown, to unleash all its payload in one turn. to ignore invulnerable saves it would have to have an astronomical points cost... plus thats too much like the vortex missiles. also It needs a minimum distance for targeting, which can't be small. I think it needs a D3 payload per-missile of 7" templates like the manticore launcher. but all missiles must be launched in the same turn.
Maybe something like S10 Ap1 Apoc Barrage 6 (or however many missles), One Shot? Something reasonable and in line with other superheavy weapon platforms.
A flame wall (Paint a 4 foot aluminum square in flames) and then just sweep all the models on the table onto the floor - Well, someone might retaliate by punching your big tank
SD.....AP1...... 10"Blast...... One-shot...... Range >48"
Due to the complicated firing procedures, the ordinatus golgotha can only fire 1-2 missiles per turn.
Ancient Technology:
The Ordinatus Engines are hallowed constructs, dating from the golden age of imperial technology. Much of the knowledge on these leviathans has been lost to the echoes of time, the adepts who control these machines struggle to convene with the machine spirit.....
Roll a dice and add the turn number, before consulting the following table:
1-5 = The Machine spirit of this venerated machine has not been riled enough to unleash destruction. Roll again next turn.
6 = Target Locked. The ordinatus may fire as normal from this turn onwards.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Youd be looking at 14/14/13, perhaps 10 structure points?
I quite like this rule too
Dispersion Field: Each Ordinatus each protected by a specially designed and constructed Dispersion field. More powerful than a void shield, these structures provide more protection, but their immense power requirements slowly cause them to weaken. If any hit is caused on a vehicle with a dispersion shield roll a D6. If the roll is greater than the current turn number (and always on a 6), the shot is completely blocked by the shield and has no effect.
or this
Dispersion Field
The Ordinatus is protected by a massive energy field that can deflect any ranged attack, but loses power rapidly once activated.
The following rules apply:- The Ordinatus recieves a 2+ save against any rolls on the Super-Heavydamage table. The first time this save is failed (a 1 is rolled), the DispersionField is down for the remainder of the game
Id say youd be looking in the region of 2000-3000 pts myself. I guess warlord cost (2500) would suit.
I think a better interpretation of that last idea would be that the shield gives a 2+ save on the turn it's activated (and it can be activated on-the-spot)... i.e. in response to an incoming attack. After that turn however, the shield's energy reserves are depleted and it no longer functions.
No, I rather like the rules discussions. BOLS uses the 'invulnerable shields' rules, but I suspect standard Void Shields are more in line with the 'Epic' rules, per-se.
I do, however, like the each-turn-the-shield-weakens concepts.
What I'm going to do is gather up all the suggestions, compile them, and then make a poll. I'm also going to crank out the old VDR from Chapter Approved to see what that makes. I know that it'll be way, way off, but it'll be a nice benchmark.
Yeah, I think the sheilds should be an automated thing.
Maybe something like this:
Dispersion Void Sheild: When the first glancing or penetrating shot hits the Ordinatus, it gains a 2+ sv that turn, due to the sheer size of the vehicle, the power output weakens every turn after. so every turn after its activation it lessens by one point, e.g. 3+, 4+, 5+ etc. In addition, If the Ordinatus attempts to move after the dispersion sheilds activation, Roll a D6, on a 4+ it may move as normal. on a 1-3, it loses D3" of movement.
And for the missiles:
Ordinatus Exterminatus Missile system:
Str D Ap 1 10" Blast, Special Ordnance barrage (how ever many missiles it has) 1 shot. Countdown to annihilation.
Countdown to annihilation: The Ordinatus may fire as many missiles as there have been turns. e.g. turn 1 = 1 missile and so on. but Equally the Ordinatus must meet the following criteria to fire.
It must not have moved this turn, suffered a crew stunned or crew shaken result. Other than this, you must roll a D6 and score a 6+ to fire a missile. the Dice roll may be modified as follows.
+1 to the dice roll for each turn the ordinatus has been on the table.
+1 to the dice roll for each turn the ordinatus has not fired a weapon (including missiles)
The ordinatus missile system cannot be destroyed by a weapon destroyed result, but if it suffers a weapon destroyed result, you must modify any dice rolls by -1 for each result of this kind for that turn only.
for structure points I think it should have roughly the same amount as a Reaver titan. As for points, I have no idea tbh...
Yeah thats true, some of the crew got given them, and last I heard one went on ebay and reached the heady heights $250k+ not sure of the final figure it got thought...

I was browsing eBay, and that auction showed up. I just couldn't resist. Really, anything from what I consider to be the "Golden Era" of GW (Pre 3rd edition) gives me goosebumps. If I was rich, I'd set out to amass a full collection.
As for my IG... Well, I've got an idea forming in my head... A bad, bad idea. But i means ditching all of my infantry. I think I can keep the vehicles, but I may need to strip and repaint 'em. We'll see.

NOTE: "Golden Era" is, basically, my late teens to early 20's. Not based on any ruleset or whatever. It was when I first encountered GW, and was smitten for life.

Thankfully, My team plays ultracool Badab-War era Marines, with spiffy paint schemes and cool fluff.
@Childe: I played my first game of 40K and Epic (Adeptus Titanicus) in 1988. I bought my first Citadel minis in 1987. I didn't know what the minis were for, only that they were unlike anything I'd ever seen. In 88, I was taught by a group of visiting BRITS how to play the games. They had brought some of their stuff!

Sherman, set the WAYBAC machine to 1994...
Here's the box. Bright, shiny. GW wasn't quite into that whole GRIMDARK thing as they are, now. If you look back at RT/2nd Edition paint schemes, they were all pretty darn bright. Banners and flags ruled the battlefield, and there was, I feel, more of a 'joie de vie' than there is now. We were all part of one big happy family. Remember, this is really pre-internet, so your FLGS (and GW Store) was where you went to find friends, other players, and buy almost all of your product. Things make look 'primitive' to you, if you're one of my younger readers. And, yes, that's certainly true. The "great paintjob" of the day was drybrush-and-a-wash, and decals were tricky affairs, sometimes requiring three layers of decal to achieve a multi-color effect.
On the back, information in the usual GW languages. English, French, Spanish, and German. PROTIP: Note the fact that Space Marines are posed with the Leman Russ. This was a-ok back then. Also, the background scenery was used in almost every battle report and product shot EVER.
Crack the box open, and you were greeted with...SPRUES! Oh, yes. Five beautiful sprues. The box felt heavy, was full, and gave you that satisfying "I got good value for my hard-earned money' feeling.
Pulling the sprues out, I'm pleased that they are intact. A few parts have fallen off (as expected), but they're in the box. Five sprues made up the kit, two of which (tracks and wheels) were shared between the Leman Russ and Chimera kits. Note that, back then, the track sprue was cast in black plastic. If you zoom in, you can see the phenominal level of STUFF packed into the sprues. The sponsons, back then, were not optional. All Leman Russ had them. You could replace ONE Heavy Bolter with a Heavy Flamer, which was amusing as all get out, given how vehicle damage worked.
Additionally, because there were all these pieces parts, it encouraged kitbashing. GW also encouraged this. In those days, it was normal to take stuff from other tank kits, and spruce up your tank, or use the targeter box for some other project. The Accessories sprue, standard with all Imperial Guard vehicles, gave plenty more fodder for modelling ideas and fun. You had extra doors, tracks, and wheels, no problem.
At the bottom of the box is the paper materials. All kits came with their own decal sheets and flags/banners, matched to the vehicle. There was not a 'one size fits all' sheet stuck into every kit. Chimeras had their own decals and banners, same with Space Marine Bikes, Eldar and Ork kits. These decals and flags pop up on eBay, you should take a look for them if you've never seen 'em before. I guess what I'm trying to get at is that I feel the value for your money was much, much higher than it is today. Some might say, "Well, these decals just made people less creative, everyone did the same thing", which I will refute. They were inspirational to people, and folks happily made up their own bright and colourful paint schemes, mixed and matched decals, and made their own flags and banners.
Here's the "Hobby Flyer" in the kit, suggesting you buy more stuff, selling White Dwarf, etc. On the back is a stripped down version for each Language.
Note the 'special offer', here. One Terminator, one Lizardman, four pots (the best pots Citadel ever made) of paint, a brush, and a how-to booklet and hobby booklet.. $9.95 USD, 5 Pounds Sterling. I still have the booklet. PROTIP: Back in 1994, Australians paid the same for their stuff as people in the US!
The instruction BOOKLETS were way, way, way (one more time) WAY superior to what you get now. All hand-drafted, each piece was numbered, labelled, and explained. You understood that you were attaching a storage locker, or gluing on a maintenance hatch! The 'exploded views' were very clear, and the instructions were step by step. There was no confusion. Today's kits are certainly simpler. Everything is 'keyed' so they only fit one way, and the CAD images are certainly detailed...but they really skip steps in today's instructions, and you just don't get the same feeling of understanding. But, maybe that's not really needed for a 13 year old.
Finally, in the back of each booklet, you got some painting instructions, and a Datafax in each language. You were encourgaed to photocopy ( ) the 'fax and/or cut out the one from the booklet, and glue it to cardboard from a cereal packet. GW eventually offered full-colour versions of these, but you didn't have to buy them.
That's right. Buy the kit, get the rules. How's THEM apples for you?
Thanks for taking this trip back in time with me. Please step clear of the time vehicle. The gift shop is down the hall and to the left.

ArbitorIan wrote:This was the Leman Russ kit where you had to glue each individual INVISIBLE wheel onto each side before completely covering them up with tiny track sections, right?
:(:(:(
Yes, but most of us installed the bare minimum of wheels to do the job, and kept the rest for other projects.
I loved this kit, all the way up until they released the new version for idiots. The new one really takes the fun out of the model IMHO. I loved the intricacy ond time it took to build the older version, and I'm a very young gamer so don't remember the times of bright red boxes!
The new one is just too simple. Some bits I like, I like the new turret shape, I like the sponson options and I like the variants.
However I do not like the newer Chimera. I was wanting to convert a hydra by setting the turret part of the chimera at the back, however now it is in few large parts instead of the older, more numerous smaller pieces, making the conversion much more difficult. Now i am searching in vain for an old-style chimera that is unmade. Really annoying. However I look forward to seeing you build this. Its a good model that stood the test of time fairly well.

Really interesting stuff though, thanks for posting! Seems like GW's attitude to their customers has changed a lot in the last nearly 20 years!
Don't make me slap you... I'm only 5 years older than you... eeesh NM I still feel old
Workshops attitude stinks these days. But. I still love the games. Now workshop only gets my cash through independant stockists... oh how I love that 20% I save
So, I'm a little ADD when it comes to projects, I tend to jump around a lot as idea come into my head. Over on the Great Marine Swap, Whalemusic360 put up an offer to swap Land Raiders. Since I had a spare one that I was going to turn into scenery, I figured it would be a good one to use in a classic "Grand Salvage Project". I really enjoy these projects, taking beat up discarded job lots, and turning them back into play pieces.
First, a shot of a terrain inventory I took. Note how amazingly unfinished EVERYTHING is. But, I now have the makings of four 4x6 tables, no problem. I like making 'themed' tables (as opposed to tournament tables), so expect some silliness coming your way as I convert a Chaos Skull thingy into a massive Necron Tombworld.
Next up, the pre-salvage shots:
And the post-salvage shots. There's more detailing to add, as it will be a Dark Angels vehicle. I have a bunch of DA bits lying around.
Two other items of note:
ORDINATUS UPDATE:
I made another missile, and proved that the design works, and is easy to replicate. I am waiting on parts for the other four missiles, as I scavenge the internets for cheap Manticore/Deathstrike bitz. I think I'm pretty close. I fiddled with some designs for the launch rails, and I think I have a design that makes me both HAPPY as well as allowing me to remove the missiles as they are fired.
Rules-wise, I downloaded the old VDR rules, unshelved my Apocalypse books, and I'm fiddling with points and designs. I'd like to thank EVERYONE who made suggestions. I am torn between a couple of "Shield Designs". As for the missiles themselves, it is clear that some form of "I launch, you lose" rule keeps coming up. I mean, that's the scale of this thing. So, I'm thinking about two options for the Datafax. Option one, "I launch, You lose", which makes the thing simply an objective to annihilate. IE: Starting turn two, didn't move, target locked, FIRE. This represents the Ordinatus leveling some enemy city, landing zone, etc. This rule would be applied to ANY Ordinatus I build. Option two, "Cleans the Heretic" allows for the firing of individual missiles in a controlled manner. Several missiles would be listed, including Apocalypse Barrage, and Vortex. Basically, load it up and go. It'll have similar rules, but you CAN try and fire turn one. The "Target Lock" rule will allow you to fire 1d3 missiles of your choice, as long as the missiles are of the same type, blah, blah.
I'm less happy with option two, so that'll take the most twiddling.
I should have a design for the launch rails mounted by the end of the weekend, for the center launch rails and two missiles.
MAILING UPDATE:
I owe a bunch of packets to a few people, so I'm gathering bits up and my lovely SO is out picking up a bunch of mailing envelopes for me. EXPECT BITZ SOON.
I know, it's great, isn't it? I think it is the silliest Land Raider variant GW's ever published, feels like a 13 year old came up with it. "What...what if I put more Lascannon sponsons on it...and replaced the heavy bolters with....MORE LASCANNONS!".
Briancj wrote:I know, it's great, isn't it? I think it is the silliest Land Raider variant GW's ever published, feels like a 13 year old came up with it. "What...what if I put more Lascannon sponsons on it...and replaced the heavy bolters with....MORE LASCANNONS!".
So, really... it's kind of a waste... all that fire power but most of it can only hit one target *IF* all the turrets can see it, which is unlikely. PoMS can only fire one gun if I remember correctly... or is it different for Apoc.
Cool vehicle though, even if silly... I heartily approve.
No, it's no different in Apoc... the Apoc rules only add "Destroyer" strength weapons, Gargantuan Creatures and Super-heavies. It doesn't change the Defensive weapons rules in any way iirc.
According to the 40K rules, all guns can hit something in front of the tank. That's because you ignore what the sponsons can ACTUALLY point at, and use the sponson rules in the rulebook, which state that they have about a 190' arc of fire.
And, yes. It *IS* a silly tank. But, really folks. We have giant walkers and magic. POMS can still only take one of the weapons and do something else with it, but that something else is still a twin-linked Lascannon. Also, you can upgrade the vehicle to have a pintle-mounted Storm-Bolter and/or an HK. For maximum silly.
Funny, I almost made the same conversion for you. I actually have one nib (the whole kit from the last apoc release). It'll be interesting to both be doing a gms version of our primary armies. I like the choice given the glued front hatch.
Power of the machine spirit- It is the tank's...soul (for want of a better word and this fits in with silly) taking control of its own weapon...
SM codex (pg81) wrote: The interface between Land Raider's machine spirit and it's fire control mechanisms allow the crew to target with unnering accuracy.
A land raider can fire one more weapon than would normall be permitted. In addition, this weapon can be fired at a different target unit to any other weapons, subject to the normal rules for shooting.
IIRC in the previous codex POTMS was actually fired at BS 2 to show that it didn't have some super-dooper-marine-shooter behind the sights...
ah cheers IM. the auto description didn't bring that one up.
Yeah the machine spirit these days is an additional weapon. which is infinitely better imo. In other rules things, I'm so glad improved ceramite has become rarer as well as immunity to melta weapons.
Briancj wrote:Well thank goodness, WM, we didn't was Terminus Ultras! Althought, that would have been HI-LAR-I-OUS.
KA-FREEEM...
YES! TSOALR, you should make either the version with a power plant pulled behind it or the one that had all the demolisher cannons sticking out the front hatch...
Briancj wrote:I just cracked open a can of Citadel Dark Angles Green spraypaint from, oh, A DECADE AGO, and it fired up JUST FINE, solid paint, solid coat.
I really, REALLY miss GW's ultra-high-quality days.
You can also put a pintle-mounted storm bolter on it. Which, if I recall an earlier thrad on the issue, made the tank totally OP.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Some WiP shots. Man, my freehand sucks nowadays. Various color basecoats down, some freehand work on the tank, good coat on the Bleached Bone, getting there on the red. Much, much more work to do.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Woah, missed WIP shots. You like WAY ahead of me. I wasnt really kidding when gits said to pick something that would take at least a month. Hope that's ok. To be fair, you had a head start with it being together already
Not a worry, WM. I just had some time, and I've found that when I do GMS/trades/etc I should do them as fast as possible, so I don't forget/lose track.

I think you're now required to do so. Ideally, I want to get 1 from each of the wardens in warden colors at some point. I have gits and sl, but not even mine yet otherwise.
Start of a Necron Tomb world, which will feature an abandoned Explorator base. This is an example of my mind, folks. Most people see a Chaos Altar kit, like so:
*I* see a Necron Tomb World Altar:
My mind is a wonderland.
"But Brian. Shut up. Give us Ordinatus, or we'll abandon your plog and never come back!"
FINE. JERKS.
The carrier section is now complete. I may add a few more minor items.
Rivets!
More Rivets!
There? HAPPY?
More missile parts arrived yesterday and today. Should be able to push forward.
Wow cool stuff ya got here Brian. That is one extreme land raider. I think it might have to sacrifice its troops transport capacity for batteries to power all that lazer goodness.
Also that ordinatus thing is quite hefty. Reminds me of a GI Joe playset from the 80s (in a good way). You're gonna need quite a lot of room to store and display all this stuff...lol
@graven: SLEEP ACQUIRED. In spite of one of my cats demanding to be fed at 5:30 in the morning.
@Vit: That's a lot of Feth.
@Yellow: Thanks! I spilled the requisite blood early on in the project, so Khorne was appeased.
@Cave: YES. Except, to be fully 80's YO JOE, I need to add 80 more guns, and it needs springs to launch the missiles, and a hidden Cobra Firebat, and...
@Childe: Shut. UP.
@dsteingrass: Coming from you, that means a lot to me.
@Darkvoid: Thanks! Next up, final details and more rivets.
@Gits: It is my temple to all things 40K. I suppose I should make some AdMech figures for it, Servitors, etc.
@NinjaCupCake: Welcome, and thanks! Please Ninja a half dozen cupcakes to my desk. Yes, this forum is an EPIC motherload of inspiration AND support. You can ask any question in this forum, and get a healthy, rational response. Or a solid razzing if you ask about <Sports Team> or why people are willing to sit and watch Cricket.

I made a change to the tractor, I removed the Heavy Bolters, as I realized that this is NOT a land fortress, it is an Ordinatus with one job; to fire missiles. However, I did keep all the lascannons intact. I don't expect a couple of Twin-Linked Heavy Bolters to be of much use, even in 6th edition, unless I had a LOT of them. And that just didn't look right to me.
So, I have an airbrush thoughtfully loaned to me by Galorn. I'll be doing a lot of practice with this, very soon. I have the pieces parts for the last two missiles inbound from the UK. I would like to say that, while I was able to acquire SOME bits through US stores, the majority of my bits have come from the UK. I mean, there's just a staggering difference in stock levels between the US and UK stores. Bravo, folks.
What's left to do?
Rivet down the main support sections.
Add the side radomes/radar dishes.
Add a few more greeblies and gubbins.
Assemble the last two missiles, then seal up and detail all six missiles.
Learn how to use an airbrush.
Primer coat.
Paint.

Now, here's where y'all come in.
I need some ideas on two things:
1) What paint scheme. Obviously, "Adeptus Mechanicus Red" is the Boxcar Red of the 40th Millennium. And I'm okay with that. Pink is right out. I'm open to other suggestions.
2) A name. Obviously, this is an "Ordinatus Golgotha". But it isn't, really, there's a few tweaks and a totall different superstructure. So, since this construct was built during the Badab War, for the Tyrant of Badab....I need a new name! Fire away!
Fachen was a giant out of Celtic mythology who's visage was so terrifying that the mere sight of it was said to induce heart attacks. (very appropriate for this weapon of mass terror)
Best of all, when somebody asks what it is... you can honestly answer...
Good luck with the airbrushing, I just got an airbrush, it's easier to use than I thought, especially with all the advice and tips on da Dakkadakka(thanks everyone)
So, haven't been able to do a lot, but here's a general update:
Ordinatus:
Four missiles assembled, need detailing. Parts for the last two missiles are winging their way to me from the UK.
Valkyrie Project:
I've determined the bitz I need. Getting the Cockpit Glass is going to be impossible, all bitz stores are sold out. I'm looking at cheap 1:48th Apache models to see if that'll do the deed. Sigh.
Deathstrike Launcher:
Need to paint and decal, and that'll be done!
Tau Project:
I have to finish the Hammerhead, then assemble a Devilfish, and pick up a Firewarrior Squad. I think I have enough to put together a 500 point Tau Army, which I'll then sell off, most likely.
Bitz organiation:
OMG, so behind on this. I haven't even dealt with the last megabitz bag I bought (and was grossly dissapointed in).
Minotaurs Space Marines:
On hold until 6th Edition. I have a LOT of Marine stuff, and my original Marine Love, Dark Angels, are getting a new Codex. Mmmmm.
Imperial Guard:
On hold until 6th Edition. Also, I am seriously considering ditching most of my Guardsmen, in favor of going full Pretorian. Between my Col.Gravis Rough Riders and Victoria Lamb's stuff, it'd be damn easy and fun. We'll see.
Chaos Tzeentch:
On hold until 6th Edition. Waiting for the new codex.
Other Projects: Tabletop/Terrain: Working on the Necron Tomb World, need more foam and some pine bark chips. Other worlds in progress. Have to find a standardized 'container' for moving the tables around.
RT/2nd Ed Salvage: Got a lot of stuff, need to do a major, major cleanup job on it all. Currently boxed.
Skirmish Games:
Wreck Age: I unpacked my miniatures, going to clean, prime, and paint those up. Rules and scenarios are starting to become available. I'll be trying to demo this game, locally.
Dust Warfare: Not going to buy any miniatures yet. Yet. I love the vehicles, I hate the miniatures, due to their sculpts and poses. Don't know of any local players/groups.
Flames of War: Will paint up what I have, there are local groups, but I don't have anywhere near an Army. This may be eBay bait.
Killzone: Going to build up a Marine force for this, since that's the majority of what I have in bitz right now. I think. They'll be Minotaurs for sure, since I should stay with the theme, instead of going all over the place. Maybe a Deathwatch Kill Team, instead. I may also build an IG 'boarding crew' using my IG Vets squad and other bitz.
Starship Games: Battfleet Gothic: On hold, no one really to play with. This is, really, a "Fond Memories" project.
Firestorm Armada: Man, do I have TONS of ships for this game. Again, no local players. Backburnered, may go on eBay.
Other GW Games: I have an original, but beat up, copy of Talisman 2nd edition with tons of expansions. But, since the success of Talisman 4th, the demand for this game has gone way, way down. Should clean up and store it better or eBay it.
I have a MASSIVE collection of Warhammer Fantasy Quest. This is boxed up. I don't have a real local "Gaming Group" to unleash such things on, so it is in the same "Find Memories" place as BFG.
That's about it from this round of cleanup, organization, and a trip down memory lane.
On hold until 6th Edition. Also, I am seriously considering ditching most of my Guardsmen, in favor of going full Pretorian. Between my Col.Gravis Rough Riders and Victoria Lamb's stuff, it'd be damn easy and fun. We'll see.
that i can so totally understand... if my wallet would allow i would so fully follow your footsteps^^
OMG, so behind on this. I haven't even dealt with the last megabitz bag I bought (and was grossly dissapointed in).
where did you get those? recently i started to sort thorugh them with my kids... they love it to look through the contens too... really promising for me to get the kids early hooked up on the plastic crack

The WarStore semi-regularly cleans out their bits, and bags them up. But it can be quite hit or miss.
HOWEVER, for sorting through with kids, and using for kid-projects?

Well worth the investment!
totally with you there!^^... besides... i love bitzboxes... as long as it doesn´t contain nids stuff i will find a way to use it... one way or the other... recently i got quite a bit of DE ship-stuff and i will use these soon for some IG jump troops...at least one^^
Betcha think I forgot about you. No, dear reader...I have not!
The final parts from the Munitions Ministorium finally arrived. First, a note on missile assembly. This is how I build a two-stage missile. I fill in the void in the upper stage with plasticard, which then has various greeblings, rivets, and symbols applied. So, that's two Deathstrike Missile sections, four pieces from the Manticore missiles (I think I can salvage the remaining halves for...something...), and one section of barrel/turret from a Shadowsword kit. PER MISSILE. G'wan, do the math.
And a quick shot of rivets, rivets, ladder, and rivets:
Radar Dish in stowed/travel position:
And now, gentlemen of the League...the finished Ordinatus.
hey brian... i really have to ask you... why do you refuse to join the league? huh? we need you... for definite... no backtalk allowed here... pretty please? we would be honored to have you amongst us chosen few (or lot...whatever^^) that piece is truly a master piece... and i sure am from time to time dumb as a doornail but i got the hint of repetitive pointing out the aplication of rivets^^
and directly on the matter of the ordinatus... wow... i like that! it looks so damn fine mister... i hope you feel proud about it! very good work mate...
Absolutely EPIC Brian! Soo much coolness all around, with my favories being the missles, of course, and that badass orbital dish on top, really brings the excellent peice together!
Automatically Appended Next Post: And yes, you have earned your -=]_.=- Badge of honor!!

Next up? Prime and paint!
...
Oh, God.

PS: I love how no-one's gone "Are you going to cast this?"
Are you going to cast this or start making mass re-productions of this and sell it on ebay and start it's own facebook page .. Huh Huh Huh.. Did you know Miley is now engaged! OMG!!
Seriously.... awesome my friend. Take your time to consider just the right paint scheme to compliment such an awesome engine of Destruction!
Actually, given the expense involved... the missiles might not be a bad casting project. Of course you'd have to make the missile supports and vehicle out of cast iron in order to support them...
What did you finally name this? Golgotha or something ?
Hummm...
On Facebook: Hey Ordinatus..., My boyfriend only plays Tau, I want him to play chaos,, what should I do?
Ordinatus : I suggest you shoot a missile at him and move on to a guy who plays Grey knights and purges you of your heretical ways!
PS.. call me!
