Tbh while the process of creating these conversions are well done, the parts that have been converted isnt safe for this kind of forum, as wash-away said there isnt any boundaries put in place to ensure that say kids as young as 10 from finding this thread.

Yeah, sorry. Its night time, and all I've got is a 40 watt incandescent, and gubment mans trying to take that away too. I'll have a better pic once spidey is on there.
The trail is a pipe cleaner that i superglued orange clump foliage to and then drybrushed black.
The hoverboard is a marine backpack with a mawlock jaw and a carnifex adrenal gland on it.
Also: Lets hear it for Manchu. He's cleaned up quite a large mess here tonight, and it can't be pleasant for him or any mod to wade into this kind of crap night after day to clean up a mess that kids that aren't even his made. I applaud you, sir, and can only imagine what is said about us.

Funny you should mention the rhino ones.
There are differing lengths of smoke trails for how fast the tank moved, and they're insanely useful for remembering stuff. I also make huge mushroom clouds to show destroyed vehicles.
And yes, the method is the same. I shredded Woodland Scenics Fall Foliage into crumbs, applied PVA glue to a pipe cleaner, rolled it around, and let it set. Then I ran a bead of superglue down the back of it for strength, and attacked it with the brush with charcoal paint. Its pretty sturdy stuff, and even a long trail like the goblins will hold up to tossing it to a friend across the table.
Nerivant, you've also earned a commission of pretty much anything you'd like.
I'll echo LeBaron; the flame trail looks great.
Hopefully the ripper is a better pilot than the real GG.

Even my original 500 point list would have been anally brutalized, since I play nids. Instead, I played Ymgarls that didn't get to use dormancy and walk into bolter fire Fuuuun.

Heya Limbo, it is regular old Terra Cotta Colored Air Dry clay from Michaels/hobby lobby...
Take and old cd or dvd, take an appropriate amount of clay, shape it into a crater. Allow to dry (Clay will seperarte from cd when dry) glue CD back on base with hot glue ot pva glue, and flock or rock it as needed.
Sure thing, more pics always available upon request.
Been experimenting with taking the pictures with a turned off LCD screen as the background. It still reflects light, and the eye isn't as drawn to the white negative space.
I think it works out fairly well.

One thing that occurred to me whilst reading this thread is that rippers seem, at least the way you make them, sir, very similar to nurglings. Vicious and bloodthirsty, but also adorable, slightly ridiculous, and meddlesome.

I think the point that LeBaron was making (and throw me in with this as well), is that we want to see progress towards a table-ready army of Hive Fleet Pwnography. "Wait, WHAT?! Pics or it didnt happen." You might find yourself saying. How, Doomthumbs, how? See my step by step below.
1) Clipper out half of the head mount from 2 of the heads, one on the left, one on the right. Whittle another one down to the plate, as flat as possible.
2)Glue the first two heads together at the sides, with the cuts in the middle. Glue the third down to cover the seam.
3) Attach the adrenal gland as pictured, then use one of the small flat carapace bits on the "forehead" of this custom head.
4) Chop up your otherwise useless spinefist bits, you just want the rectangles at the end. glue them together.
5) Glue the 2nd flat carapace bit so that it covers a brutally sloppy chop job on the spinefist bits because I didnt explain well enough.
6) Take the leading points of what used to be a spinefist top and attach them to the underside of the head on the backside of the adrenal gland "teeth/eyes".
7) Use the spiny carapace bit and attach it to the back of the neck to fill that awkward void.
8) Glue all of this to a 40mm base, and attach the talons in a manner you see fitting.
9) Base it so that it looks like its coming out of the ground, and paint it. (Or not, I'm not going to for a while, either.)
10) Utter a "Thank you Doomthumbs!" You can do this under your breath, in hushed tones, or thank me here in this thread.

If you're so hungry for my painted material, I offer several tutorials on how to achieve my Hive Fleet's paint scheme in my other threads.
Sadly none of them have generated as much interest as my modeling, and are modest attempts, at best.
You are, by your own admission, not a player of the game. You only enjoy painting of the models. Perhaps this is because the models themselves offer a challenge for being so small, as well as being pleasing to paint due to the fine detail. That is where you draw your enjoyment of these GW products. I derive mine from chopping them up and mashing them back together to make wholly new models. Models you might like to paint.
I wholeheartedly invite you to create a ravener out of just paint. I believe it would be called a painting. Post it. I'll comment asking when you intend to turn it into a model.
However, searching your gallery I find zero converted models! Why is that? Huh? Huh? Wait, no, theres a diorama where you bored a hole in a guardsman! Bravo! How was it accomplished? A drill? How very, very mundane! You also have made some kitbash weapons, and sculpted a GS mask.
I'm sorry, I just can't take you seriously unless you also convert your models (to my standards). Sure you can paint them, but that interests me at a value approaching zero.

I noticed another thread here in which a NSFW tag was attached (because it had an anthropomorphic fox woman with nipples... yeah, no joke, I'll even link it) and realized that pretty much anything they slap the NSFW tag on gets people to flock to it to try and stone it to death. Manchu had to go and break up that little hate ring too. In truth, I think it had less nipple then Slaaneshi models but, you know, fanboys... so, I was thinking making a sig banner for those who support the freedom of expression in the form of modeling with Team NSFW banners. The guardsman has massive "weathering" done to the front, specifically his hands/face/chest. Its tough to see in matte black, but he really hates it.
Experimenting with backdrops for photos, I used a canvas from Hobby Lobby with the plastic wrap still on. I got caught in the reflection, cool stuff.

New technique for bending/melting is to heat a drill bit and then press red hot drillbit into the model to heat the plastic that way. 50% less cancer.

Don't get me wrong. I still enjoy the painting aspect of the hobby. Its just that I feel that in order for the painting to be "palatable" to me, the work itself has to be interesting.
GW does a great job of making their figures enjoyable to paint, I'm just making it... more so... for people of my similar... tastes. Can I do that anymore? Can I say I have taste?

or you could do something of the effect Two talons One {insert 40k race here} and do something with talons (works with claws too, i suppose)
I envision a carnifex with scy-tals pierced through a body, holding it up to his face while with his weird tongue he sensuously licks the emaciated corpse. but then, I know doing that with an entire carnifex might not be what you want. perhaps just a genestealer.
There have been some requests for a full army shot, and hopefully this will satisfy them.
Things to note:
1) Most of that stuff is painted. Not well, but painted.
2) Multiple kinds/colors of termagants help to differentiate between squads that come out of the tervigons.
3) 60 genestealers and 3 broodlords.
4) Distinct lack of bigger bugs. I much prefer Old Adversary bubbles and just drowning people in smaller bugs that come out of nowhere.
5) There are some conversions in there not posted on this thread yet. I will get to those, faster if requested.
6) That Goatsegon has been sold. $100 bucks for $15 of plastic and an idea was too good to pass up. I will rebuild it. May he shock people in his new home in Omaha.
7) I'm still doing requests, but my stock is temporarily limited to what you see here for bits/models, in addition to my bitbox.
If you'd like to augment my army, either by suggesting an idea or by actually donating models/bits, I'll try to see that justice is done to the concept of maximum awesome.
Work is going to be crazy these next few days, so I'll be posting less frequently. I will have a few models completed, just not as many.

You know, the 'Critters' movies frequently showed the Krites attacking their victims in ways that I think a ripper would be able to emulate. A nod to the murder of the Easter bunny sheriff (with a ripper running amok inside a Space Marine or Ork's armor, devouring him from within), or hanging half-in and half-out of some poor victim's throat (ala Critters 4) would be entertaining.
Also, thank you for your shout out to my Chaos mosaic (I assume you were talking about mine, since Zephyrey doesn't have a mosaic in his gallery). I love custom conversions, and your's are some of the most innovative I've seen. I also appreciate the legitimate strategies for cheap scratchbuilding you suggest. Do you just play/model 'nids, or do you have other armies as well?

Ah. Thanks for the heads up. As you pointed out, I don't have a lot of posts considering how long I have been a member. Not so much due to lurking as a protracted period of inactivity in wargaming, due to a 45 hour work week, a year of classes, and a marriage. But now I have more free time and have returned to both 40k and Dakka. Incidentally, I hope to do another one of those mosaics soon, this time with the Ultramarines logo. Hopefully, should be up soon.
Ok I mentioned earlier that I was going to be spending my day playing with hot glue.
Its pretty horrible looking right now, but its a WIP. I'm aiming for the alien from "Independence Day" , specifically the "Release me" scene.
What I'm doing is squirting hot glue on pipe cleaners, then dunking this in a tub of water in order to cool the glue into the shape I want.
There is a brief few seconds that I can shape the glue afterwards, and I'm slowly adding onto this armature.
At the moment, it is crude beyond even monkey doo doo fights. Give me time. You know I do good work. Well, maybe not good.

A cool discovery I've never seen anyone else talk about: Hot glue floats.
So I can squirt a stick of glue into the same water tub and make a sheet of alien building material. Maybe hot glue redemtion for the ID Alien.
You know, I've used hot glue before and have never once thought to experiment like that. The 'everything floats down here' approach was something I would have never considered, not even once. Now, I'm thinking it's going to be a nice addition to my small list of skills.
Quick question: How long do you have to wait between dunking the glue-covered object in the water and the point where it is safe to handle without burns? And about how long does it stay pliable enough to mold?
Depends on several factors.
How hot is the glue? How large of a bead of glue did you use?
I'm using a small size glue gun, and just quickly dunking it. Its warm, sometimes still hot on the inside, but never really burning. Water is a very good coolant. If it works quickly for nuclear reactors, it follows that it works quickly for glue.
Your mileage may vary though, based on your glue gun, how long you left it on before squeezing the trigger, the glue sticks you're using, etc. I'd suggest a few test runs and get comfortable with the process. I'm just learning myself through trial and error.
Progress.
I scrapped the old acid pee delivery method for this one.
I put a blob of hot glue on a skaven weapon arm and then submerged it slowly, pumping more glue as I pulled the armature down into the water.
Gonna wash this over with the water effect/scorpion green mix, instead of building it up from that. Faster, and looks better.
So I dropped about two dollars on some glue sticks and made some Tyranid terrain last night in about 5 minutes.
The method I used was to fill various containers with water. Tupperware, a bowl, and a small baking sheet with walls. Then go nuts with glue.
I won't bore you with pictures of me squirting glue into water, I'm sure you all have active imaginations. The point is, glue floats, so you can just carpet the top of the water with glue, then peel out a sheet of glue strings that didn't have the time or heat to melt the other glue around it. This means it stays looking all ropey instead of forming blobs like doing this on a sheet of cardboard would. Cool. Slap some washes on it, make it look at gross as possible.
I made 5 pieces in the same number of minutes. Seriously just go nuts, even using two glue guns pistolero style, then attack this with a wash that goes nicely with your army. I chose a mix of bubonic brown and catachan green, with some GW water effects, but you could use any wash.
You can then take these sheets of translucent glue and throw it down on any table, and have the detail of the table show through the holes in the glue, as well as somewhat visible through the glue itself. These sheets are pliable, and will bend to fit any shape you toss it down over. Models can walk over it without damaging it, and the glue even acts as rubber feet to keep wobbly models from falling over.
As you may have guessed, I'm a huge fan of psychological warfare. Being able to take this Tyranid/Zerg creep and make any table look like a Tyranid invasion zone in 10 seconds without hampering the gameplay or model movement in any way is a fairly strong statement. The statement is "This table belongs to the Nids, mofacka, and there is absolutely jack squat you can say or do about it". See that thing their face just did? Its called a "frown". They don't have anything that makes the table looks like it owns to them, now do they? Thats pretty damn demoralizing, especially if they have to move models across it. Hell, they might even avoid those areas with a tank, being freaked out enough to not know what the hell is going on. I mean, 30 seconds ago the table looked normal. Now it belongs to you.
The pictures below illustrate this fairly well, I think. There is also a picture of what I spent my 100 bucks I got from my Goatsegon on. Terrifying enough for you?

No, its from an OOP metal model. It was a salamander Sergent, the other half of which now resides under the fist of one of my tyrant guards.
The only reason its on a ripper is because its fairly rare/expensive at about 10 bucks on ebay. I just liked the idea of obscenely overvaluing a ripper to such a large degree.

Love the Iwo Jima piece. Also greatly enjoying the philosophical merits of this thread - challenging traditional definitions and bringing life, rather than action poses, to the world of spacebugs. It would seem that those who set the bar and define the standards like to set them just high enough for others to never achieve the same, yet their arguments lack any rational definitions and rely on circular reasoning, or "begging the question", in order to triumph. I think all the detractors here need to take a course in anthropology!
BTW, where do you find large quantities of parts? I know that being in a backwards redneck town I don't have the same resource pool, but some ideas on who to ask and where to look would be awesome.
Its essentially what they are. Secretly, I'm happy she calls them that, because its a joke! And a joke about them, however bad, still leans towards the tentative acceptance side of things rather than the raw, untamed hatred of things that detract from "us time". Minor victories wherever I can find them when it comes to modeling.
I get my parts through a variety of channels:
1) My love for Tyranid models, bordering on a serious problem I should seek help for.
2) Sites like ebay and various bit retailers whenever I need a specific piece to complete something I'm excited about.
3) Trading models/bits. I always offer to play for keepsies with a basic troop from people I play, and most people are willing to part with some of their bitbox in exchange for cash.
4) Our GW stores (all 3, which I think is cool) have a communal bit box. Its a giant rubbermaid container, and if you've got spare BITS FOR THE BITS GOD, you chuck them in. This buys you a pass to take some out, should you wish. This is where I get most of the fantasy bits I use. I'm the guy rummaging through, hissing at other people that have been patiently waiting for some time now.
Oh, wow. Back in 2E/3E, there was official fluff stating that Hormagaunts reproduced sexually. I actually made a bunch of fighting and mating Gaunt bases to use as Instinctive Behaviour counters for the 3E Codex. They got lost somewhere in the GW Nottingham staff room XD
However, I continue to endeavour to include elements of anatomical correctness in my bugs. Here's a selection of the more eyebrow-raising ones:
The Tyrand and Carnifex both have appropriate means of expelling waste after eating prey, and the Biovore, Canifex and Pyrovore all have bio-ammunition storage sacs in places that for some reason cause no end of amusement in GW's core fanbase of boys aged 11-15.
I'm working on a group of Tervigons that are birthing Gaunt pupae, sue I'll bookmark this thread for them when done
Yeah, my army's got a dino theme, and Stegs seemed like a great fir for docile Biovores. Being a tight git, I used Gaunts to build my 'vores, and threw the trees I got in 3E in to reinforce the 'docile vegasaurus' look. Probably going to redo them with Warriors, so as to be more similar to the current Biovore model, size-wise.

Ok, I spent Sunday/Monday basing my entire army. I used railroad ballast from woodland scenics, to give it that arid, Tyranids ate everything feel.
And the problem is it worked too well. Now it just looks like I half assed it. It needs something more, but what? Suggestions, Please.

Well, Lindsay's Hormogaunt/Biovore inspired this one. Well, actually, nine of them. Took a good chunk out of my gaunts needed to have a squad of 30 all converted.
Brilliant. Im short on GS so I had to make a mini hoodoo style back piece, but I feel I did the concept justice in the form of another Tyranid dong.
Matrim redeemed himself in my eyes with his suggestion of larger rocks. OF COURSE. I sat and shook my head for a good 5 minutes.
I added a little something special though.
A very personal touch.
I'm generally pretty open with letting others pick up my conversions in store and even walk across the store to show friends.
These ones I'm not so sure anyone but me will ever WANT to touch.

I much prefer to make my own in almost all cases where that option is available.

Decided I'm going to make a terrain feature for my Yumgirl Peenstealers to pop out of. Its going to utilize a lot of really unhappy guardsmen.
The dominatrix I made will likely have a nice spot within the terrain, as well as a bunch of guard in cages.
Like this guy, who I reshaped the hands on so that he is gripping the bars of a hanging cage.
The cage is made from two champagne cork wires, with just the four posts remaining. Its unglued right now so as to make the eventual painting of the guardsman easier. But you can get an idea.

Thanks for the input! Definitely like the feel of that spore perhaps as the walls of terrain around a lake of ooze/ the pussywhippers Chowder linked.
But as a spore, I've always thought that that model would totally negate the special landing rules, as its just too big of a footprint.

The full over the head mask is hard to make, especially considering the odd shape of a genestealer's head. Perhaps just throw on a police hat and sunglasses, and give him assless chaps.

While preggo Kerrigan is incredibly awesome and I would gladly keep her on my mantle, I'm not sure if she would fit in on a 40k table. Part of me can't help but think that mammalian form of gestation and birth wouldn't be a particularly efficient form of reproduction for a Tyranid Queen.

I've decided that I'm not going to run that second figure. Just set it on the table in my deployment zone and make them look at it the whole game. Maybe use it as an objective.
As for naming the fig or the spawn, that falls wholly into the Fluff column. I sculpt dildos on Genestealer foreheads. I'm not exactly sure thats canon.
You can't buy it though, since the 120 or so sculpts they had sold out in under 10 hours, and as many backorders were placed within the next day or so.
Those really are the best kind of sculpt. And sculptors, really, for not flooding the market with mass quantities of sub par product.

you do know they are made in the US as well? over here we have about 5 of the machines for making sprues etc... and over there you have 2, i think, so don't go blaming it all on us. we were too busy having our afternoon tea and crumpets to worry about such things

I've got 3 toolchests of Nids to pack up, plus an extra 3" foam tray of delicates, plus the spores that won't fit anywhere.
That I now have a toolchest devoted entirely to stuff I have to put away/swap out when kids walk in the store makes me very happy indeed.
Hopefully, I will return home with new trophies, either models or dice, in addition to a whole bunch of new conversion stock.

Game night was pretty epic. I'm gonna post a batrep in the appropriate spot with full details, but I'm also posting some here because I'm a dirty rule breaker.
In my excitement, I failed to trade for models. AND bought GW brand GS. Fail.
But the wins were also fairly spectacular. 2500 points of nids vs Black Templar resulted in a bottom of turn 4 tabling, massive victory for 60 genestealers.
Game two took most of the night, my first battle against GK of any kind in a 2000 GK + 2000 IG vs 4000 full force org Nids. I held everything in reserve, and they spread out across the board. I was very confident in my victory until I learned what Purifiers do. Still managed to squeak out a victory because of a tervigon that could not/ would not be stopped, and 6 hive guard that never seemed to miss. Small batches of objective takers that went largely unmolested, and holes in marbo, assassins, and tanks/ stormraven. Pretty decisive past that, especially considering 2 dreadnights got clowned by swarmlord+3lashwhip guard, and 20 genestealers rending 27 (holy gak) times.
Anyway, heres the only 3 pictures you need for the first game. I infiltrated 3 groups of 20 toxic genestealers plus broodlord after fear of these had caused him to be bunched up in the middle of the table, more than 18 inches away from table edges. That doesn't work when I infiltrate them 18 inches away anyway, and make a slag pile out of bunched units with 3 harpies. I'll let these pictures do the talking, then I'm off to watch netflix with the lady. In the pictures, please note that I used a trygon for my tervigon, and zoanthropes subbed in for venomthropes. My list was :
