Oh dear.. Ive once again accidently set a release date which I will now most likely miss.
But you know what.. Challenge Accepted!!
I completed and molded the Armoured Medieval Rifle Arms last night, and the sprue includes a set of Bionic Rifle arms as a free bonus. Ill get some photos and the pre order up tommorow night.
So here, as promised, photos of the new Medieval style armoured rifle arms.
Without pads-
and with pads
The sprue contains 5 pairs of arms (4 unique sculpts) and a bonus pair of bionic rifle arms, the same as my modular bionics but pre assembled and much easier to use with a rifle!
I will list the new arm options on the store tommorow, and post a few more photos as well.
Hope you guys like these new parts, Ive got a few new shoulder pad, torso and power pack options coming up in the near future, as always im open to suggestions!
The Medieval Rifle arm sprue, including a pair of Bionic Rifle Arms
The Bionic Rifle arms by themselves as a conversion set-
Here are some more photos of the Steam Lords I built with these new components
---------------------------
Ive also completed the City Rubble set and got some proper photos, so the complete range is now available.
As with the previous bases, these are twice as dense as regular resin bases, and have a specially designed texture on the bottom, making them stable and grippy on almost any surface!
If you've not already seen the demonstration video for the Anvil Gaming Bases its well worth a look, im very proud of the techniques I developed for these bases!
and here are the new bases-
25mm
40mm
Bike
60mm "Corner"
and 60mm "Straight"
here is the photo of the Straight 60mm base "as delivered". The Material used is naturally Jet Black like that, it takes paint perfectly, and you can see that the larger pieces of rubble for both 60mm and the 40mm bases are separate pieces on the sprue, allowing for more variety and easier positioning of your miniatures!
The Steam Lord page offered the Steam Lord Body Sets and separate arm/weapon combo sets, at an equivalent discount of about 33% versus the price of purchasing all the components separately.
I do constantly review my pricing to keep it as reasonable as possible, but each Steam Lord has up to a dozen hand cast resin components, and im not willing to compromise at all on quality.
For the 5 Steam Lords I assembled for this news release, the components were grabbed randomly from the same stock pots I use to pick customer orders, and Im extremely proud to say that I only found ONE bubble, smaller than 1mm across, in over fifty components.
Thanks for your suggestions, a "sniper" varient of the Exorcist Rifle is coming up, as is a "SAW" varient of the Widow Maker rifle, which will have a BIG ammo box.
Definatly, thats a great idea, like the terminator?
Im hopefully have a CAD artist re-do all of my helmets soon, as well as a few new ones, so Ill discuss it with him.
@grundz, the website only allows for each guy in the 5 man unit to have the same combination of parts, but its also not a problem to specify a few "swaps" for squad leaders and the like in the order "comments box".
Anvils Hammer wrote:@Vain, I will put that idea on the list! seems to fit my product range
Yay, I am part of the creative process!
I had a look at your site again and starting to create an order list. How long have you had you gapfiller/sculpy? I think that is a great idea with all your extra bitz.
Vain wrote: How long have you had you gapfiller/sculpy? I think that is a great idea with all your extra bitz.
I thought it was a great idea as well, but Ive sold a one set, so perhaps its not obvious enough!!
@ph34r
at the moment there is only one bionic arm sculpt, so a full sprue of 5 identical pairs would not be very good! If the bionic rifle arm pair sells ok, I will take the time to make 2 more different poses and make a "full sprue" option. similar deal with the bionic/robotic legs, one pair to start with and more if they sell well.
@Escra, thanks! glad it turned up ok, and I look forward to seeing the photos!
I personally think that a "Bionic upgrade kit" with a few legs, arms, and heads would be a great idea. Currently the only real options are the Iron Hands kit and the FW character upgrade kit. For armies that want to have heavy on bionics, having more variety helps a lot.
I must also say that "Medieval Armoured Rifle Arms" is a wonderfully anachronistic combination of a name.
Tyrant!! :p can you email me a sketch of exactly what you are after? seeing as you wanted 40 of them I might as well work to your diagram!
@MajorWes.
Good plan! Ill be selling all the bionic options separately, but a combined sprue with a few of each will also make it a lot easier for everyone, and certainly cheaper than anything GW put out!

I agree here, while I am building a Deathwatch theme Sternguard army (this my need for fusion nozzles for all those combi weapons) I still want the sweet Iron Hands represented. One thing I would recommend/ask for is a larger scaled arm and leg that would fit on a "particularly heavy armoured infantryman."
We have Wolfy Terminat...I mean we have Wolfy "particularly heavy armoured infantryman" as well as Blood Drop and a few other types but nothing to show the most hateful of Chapters. And the bonus is that it isnt even Iron Hands specific, it could just be a Veteran etc.
That being said, I really sure put my money where my mouth is an order some product to actually help you get these out. Before I put in an order and rage that you release something just after can I get a super secret squirrel hint as to if the Fusion Nozzles would be out in the next couple of weeks (unlikely but it always pays to ask).
P.S. On the Fusion Nozzles thing, does anyone think it might be a good idea to combine the Fusion Cutter Nozzle with lets say a Flame Thrower Nozzle, and maybe a Superheated Gas Nozzle in a three pack? Cover a few combination options in one sprue?
I think "plasma" is a suitably generic scientific term that you don't have to try and rephrase it!! :p Plasma Rifles are all over the place in Sci-fi, Anvil Industry is releasing one soon!
Any kind of nozzel set is at least a month or more away im afraid!
You know I already do the large bionic arm set for "Wolfy" right?
*claps slowly*
These arms and weapons just took your company to the point where I would consider the quality good enough to order. The casting looks a little rough, but these new arms and guns are actually quite decent pieces!
I'm a little late to this party, but let me say the weapons systems look amazing. In addition, the bare heads look incredible. I'm considering grabbing a batch and doing all the sanding it would require to put them on a guardsman. The faces just look great. And I will be getting some of those adjustable bionic arms. Something that I think would be right up your alley and end up making you some money would be some hooded heads. Every bits site I know is consistently out of hooded heads, and the only company I know of that makes a set of hoods is West Wind, and half of them have beards and and all that, which are good for fantasy and some Space Marine armies, but not all. What that basically says to me is that there is definately a market for them. Even if all you do is take the bare heads you already have and put a hood on them, it would be a victory.
The "Unit body set" is everything except the weapons and arms, with all the optional extras, and the two arm sets - melee and rifle, contain the rest of the components to make a complete squad of 5 Steam Lords.
I dont offer it all in one big listed anymore as its almost impossible to include all the options and still have it make sense!
Purchasing the Steam Lords using these listings works out at a saving of around 33% versus the cost of the various components separately, and all the options are included at cheaper prices, cloaks for 60p instead of 85p, for example.
@noneoftheabove0, welcome to the show! and thankyou very much.
Im actually planning to release a "gaurdsman" version, with all the sanding/neck reshaping done for you, so if you can wait a few months Id do that!
I also plan to make a number of varieties of the heads, including hoods, respirators, masks etc, Im open to any ideas people have, modifying the basic heads is pretty straight forward..
I'll certainly be using them on heroes and all that. This may be telling you things you already know, but the heads will have to be scaled down somewhat. SM heads are a little too big for IG. I'm using the Defiance Games Marines, so even Cadian heads are a hair too big, but Space Marine or Catachan heads look insane. My soldiers would all have hydroencephalitis. Not having access to Catachan heads limits the heads I can use on special characters, so I'm hoping these would end up more of a Cadian scale once their done. Either way, congratulations on your sucess and as soon as my wife isn't looking, I'll be making an order.
To me, catachen and cadian heads look about the same size, and the Steam Lord ones are a fraction larger, but still "normal heroic human" size in my view as Steam Lords have quite small heads relative to the rest of there bodies.
As and when I do work on the Steam Lord heads to retask them however, I will be sanding down the skulls to remove some of the "bulk", probably some work on the jaws as well, so they will end up a little more human scale.
and thanks, and I look forward to the order!
@Vain, thanks!
@Lone DIrty Dog, yes I did! my apologies for replying, Ive had a rare "weekend off".
Thanks for the images you sent me, feel free to post directly in the thread in future!
Hopeing to actually do some new product development tonight! Exciting!
@Lone, I think the "design process" is just me chopping a couple of backpacks up and adding milliput.. but Ill post some photos of the WIP parts!
@Newabortion,
Im actually thinking about making a set of "human" rifle arms right now, to hold the existing rifles, as when I get round to making the slightly scaled down versions, they will probably have integrated hands and the Gaurdsman minis arms will be one peice with the torso.
As the Gaurdsman project is a couple of months away, Just a simple set of Rifle arms would be a good stop gap for converters.
Good plan with the NVG's! I will probably go crazy and make the goggles separate so they can attach to any existing helmet! Would be some seriously tiny components though!
Hoping to start work on the running legs tonight, so WIP photos tommorow if it goes well.
The separate goggles is a great idea and really looking forward to ordering some. I'm not sure I understand what you mean about one piece with the torso, when you make human torsos they will be only 1 piece with the arms already attached?
Will look forward to the WIP pics and like the ideas of NVG maybe you could do some normal goggles like this as well, I would buy a load of those steam punk feel mind
Newabortion wrote:what kinda goggles dirty dog?
In the Marines we were issued ESS goggles.
I agree with you though, I'll buy a crap ton of them.
I'm looking forward to realistic modern looking sci-fi soldiers,
and I trust Anivil to deliver.
Just general designs, although I am looking towards a victorian steam punk style myself the sought of thing I can stick to a head or around a hat with little adjustment.
I would be sure there would be a demand for varying styles and designs, however what would go to a vote to be fair.
ok just one quick question how do i pay you with the paypal i know its email and such on the paypal adress so am i sending it to the email on the main page or do i get information later on that as i want to order those 99 parts i have in my basket
yes used it once to pay for donator status on a group i am in so i know the general of how to use it its that i need to know what the email is that i am supposed to send it to if anyone can help with that that allready have baught from anvil that would be great help right now
When you hit Confirn Order at the end of the order placement, it will ask you to log into your paypal account. However, nothing else is needed from you other than your approval. It is set up to go to Anvilindustries automatically. You don't need their email address if you are ordering through their website.
@newabortion, Thanks for your confidence! I'm very much looking forward to my Modular Guardsman project, and hope it exceeds your expectations!
@Kronk, thanks for offering assistance while I was out at the post office!
@Emperor bacon, thanks very much for your order! I will do my best to get it dispatched tommorow!
In other news, The Running legs are erm.. a bit behind schedule.. not a massive suprise for anyone whos followed this thread for a while. But they are definatly the next thing to be worked on/released!
Hi Joel,
as part of your guardsmen project could you look at doing some seated legs, no one seems to do any in any sort of form, I need them for sitting in firing position behind flack type gun turrets and driving vehicles etc.
working on it now! about 3 hours more work to go I think, so will mold tomorrow and pre order should be up by Friday if everything goes well.
The new heads are all being designed in 3D, hopefully, still waiting on confirmation and a quote from the CAD artist, then they need to be drawn up and printed, I hope to have them ready within 6 weeks or less, but cant give any guarantees, I will keep this thread fully updated with WIP shots and projected release dates.
@RoninAkira
Yes of course! I will be designing a full range of weapon platforms, mechs and vehicles, so seated legs will definitely feature and all components will be available separately!
now back to work I go!
Joel
Automatically Appended Next Post: Just listed a few new items on the store recently. There are both products I cast for Lamenter from www.masteroftheforge.com, and hes kindly given me permission to sell them on the website, as both components are absolutely superb for conversions!
the assembly is done, just need a kneed pad, and all the gaps filled and armour plates resculpted in places. New medieval running legs on the right, roman style ones on the left.
Its pretty difficult to get a bulky armoured leg into a fluid running position, but I've done my best! The poses are all based on stills from slow motion running videos, so very realistic, its just a question of picking a pose that works on a static miniature. Hope you guys like them!
Anvils Hammer wrote:Proof that im actually working on these-
This might be horrible of me, but I kind of want to get 10 of the legs that are second from the right put some bare heads on the torsos, green stuff some extra long hair, paint the power armor in shamrock green, and make a diorama of Riverdancing Space Marines...

When is it time for you to take all my money for these?

Do it!!! Althought I should point out that Steam Lords wear Steam Powered Exo-Armour, not to be confused with the Power Armour worn by Games Workshops Space Marines since the 1980's , or the Powered Armour created by Robert Heinlein in his 1959 novel Starship Troopers. :p

feel free to send large donations to my Paypal account whenever you like.. but to actually purchase these, hopefully monday or tuesday.
Im behind schedule because the other day, when I should have been completing the legs, I got side tracked by another little project, also available to purchase next week if I can get the mold to work-

Of course they would only be 'count as' power armor guys .
I would need to find me a nice big scenic base that could pass for a stage/dance floor and armored arms that go straight down the body, then I could give it a try.
It will be on my "crazy projects that I would like to do" list.
You know I was actually planning to make a large oval base for each of my base ranges, but the prospect of your using it to make a river dancing shamrock space marines is giving me second thoughts..
@JB,
I would really like to make more varients of the 60mm bases, however they do not sell that well compared to the Steam Lord range, and as this my full time job, I unfortunatley have to focus on new products which are likely to generate maximum sales. In a few years time I hope Anvil Industrys revenue will be stable enough for me to just make what ever I like!
You know, the City rubble bases actually have the larger walls/rubbles bits as separate components? You can create quite a bit of variety just by sticking those on in different places/orientations, or adding sand bags with milliput etc etc
D-usa, that is a brilliant idea, I smell a new meme. CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT is getting old.
Riverdancen' exosuits?
The widowmaker SAW should be dual controled, have a normal pistol grip w/trigger along with the Heavyload trigger system you have on it now.
A few wish list accessory's I'd like to see would be a forgrip, a large boxmag (Like the heavy stubber), bipod( folded or unfolded under the barrel) and a holo scope which I know is also on your todo list
Also a guard version along with everything else Dang it come out with your guard product line already!
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/450439.page I'm waiting on your rifles to finish up :/
Also did you decide to make the guard compatible arms for your weapons so we won't have to wait the 6 months you've quoted on the timeline before?
Only thing I had trouble figuring out was the classic Riverdance arm pose, but I think I just figured it out. So when these go live you will have my order!
The running legs look great. They have plenty of motion without going too out of hand ala Khorne berserkers! The SAW is just how I imagined it, can't wait for it to be available.
Thanks very much! This version of the SAW will be one peice with both arms and the belt all attached, its the only way to make it work really. This one is really designed as a heavy weapon, hence the underslung nature. The bi-pod/forgrip/scope etc etc will probably be kept for a slightly more normal sized version, like the regular rifle but with a big box mag and longer reinforced barrel.
The Human scale rifle arms will probably be out sooner rather than later, but Im not going to give any garantees as there is a lot I want to work on!!
@Commander Cain, cheers! working as hard as I can! just got a few ebay listings to re-do and then Ill complete the leg sculpts!
ok got the parts yesterday and i found it quiet funny on how small it was since when i order from FW i get this giant box that is to big for the content so i laughed a bit but over to the parts i absolutly loved them they look great on the MK3 armor (after some filing down) and for once i have capes that works on space marines so il sure be ordering more in later time atleast the more heavy weapons and il post a pic of the model later next week as i dont have the camera at the moment but all in all great work and as everyone say damn you are fast on the shiping
@ Emperor bacon, thank you very much! I certainly try to offer the best possible service, and Im very glad you parts turned up safely. No point using more packaging than nessecary... Forgeworld always send my stuff in enormous boxes as well!
I look forward to seeing the photos!
And now.. *Drumroll* a mere two months behind schedule... what you've all been waiting for... *curtain raises*
ok so its just the finnished running legs, both styles, available for purchase right now on the website, but im still pretty pleased to finnally release these! Also available as options on the Steam Lord kits.
Medieval-
Praetorian-
and an example of what they look like on the sprue, it took a lot of thinking to find a sprue design which worked well for production casting but I managed it!
more photos of the sprues are included in the product listings here-
Newabortion wrote:They look great Joel! I really hope your really planing that project d-usa
I ordered me some Blood Angel heads for the front and center guy. Why bother making hair out of green stuff when GW gave you so many pretty marines to choose from .
Trying to see how much space this will take up on a base. I think I am going with 5 guys, basically a combat squad doing a little jig before the battle. Maybe the "green rage" got a hold of them or something. Need some Space Marine Biker arms though.
@d-usa, there is no way to purchase specific ones, but as its you and you asked so nicely..
Basically if and when people order sets of 5/10 etc and I break sprues up, I will put the pair on the right aside for you. so hopefully some point you will have your five sets, In exchange you have to agree to enter the diorama in the Crystal Brush Painting competition :p

I don't know if I have enough of competitors torso that would be compatible with the medival style legs, so I think it would be better for me to go with the Praetorian style leg (so probably the middle one). I think that would look better with a wider variety of armored models available.
As for Chrystal Brush, you must not have seen a lot of my painted models but I would be glad to enter it for grins and giggles . I don't know how often these competitions come around, but I was planing on going back to Adepticon next year and could always enter it there. That would also give me plenty of time to work on my painting as well . I got a couple different ideas about executing this, so time to experiment would be handy.
you off-brand instant mold came in the mail today and before I start experimenting I was wondering: can you cut it apart then "melt" it back together again with hot water and kneading?
ThomasPolder wrote:you off-brand instant mold came in the mail today and before I start experimenting I was wondering: can you cut it apart then "melt" it back together again with hot water and kneading?
You can with the stuff that CoolMiniOrNot sold. I can't speak for this product, but I'd be surprised if you couldn't.
Figure out which legs you need and let me know, and Ill "collect" them for you. I think the middle praetorian ones maby lean forward a little bit to much.. they are very fully speed running..
@Thomaspolder,
Kronk is correct, my "own brand" mold sticks are the exact same product as instant mold, imported in bulk from the same Japanese company.
If you want to combine chunks, it works fine, you just have to make sure that after you remove them from the boiled water, you allow them to dry off before combining them, I tent to blow some water off and then dab the plastic with a paper towel carefully.
Figure out which legs you need and let me know, and Ill "collect" them for you. I think the middle praetorian ones maby lean forward a little bit to much.. they are very fully speed running..
Thanks,
I might have to go with the medieval ones then, and combine them with a 2nd or 3rd gen armored torso.
They might also give the diorama more of a classic Irish knights look.
Those legs are pretty awesome. I know every post in this thread is someone telling you to make something different, but any word on when you're going to be near completion on that plasma gun (or however you described that special weapon option from a few pages back)?
Oooh, the middle Medieval running leg looks like it could be tip-toeing... I am now contemplating making Sneaking Marines, complete with a finger on lips.
They look awesome! Im a big fan of the Iron Armour kits, and as Forgeworld dont think to provide guns with their kits, Im glad I could help! :p Thanks very much for posting the photo!
@Masterslowpoke.
Yep Ive got a lot going on at the moment, but the new energy weapons for steam lords are pretty near the top of the "to do" list, I just need to get a bit better at CAD, design them and print them. I'm hoping they will be available in about a months time.
@Ian, Im thinking a "use Anvil running legs to make an amusing diorama" competition is in order!
@Charax,
Customers are very welcome to post whatever photos they like in this thread, I personally have to be a little bit more cautious, but hopefully this "line up" helps a bit.
As you can see, the Steam Lords are sculpted to the same heroic scale, but come out a fraction taller because my legs are general sculpted together rather than spread 2 meters wide.
My torsos tend to be a little thicker round the waist, and the neck joint is on top of the shoulders instead of sticking out the sternum, but otherwise the proportions and scaling are the same.
Loving the SAW, just need the bionic arms and legs, one of those and a set of the new bases, plus maybe a magazine or two, and I can get on with my "Squad of Awesomeness"
Dang, just realised. That means I really do have to decide on a colour scheme for the little brats!
Hhmmm, maybe some feline shoulder pads in their future.
Edit:
Oh, and a Praetorian with running legs with the right leg raised. Gonna do me a small dio with that, a GW marine utilising marine 'seated' legs so the GW marine is picking somehting up - entitled "Anvil kicks GW's Butt - Again!"
here is the WIP, hope you like it. Not quite as steam punky as the images you showed me, but suitably compact!! Its hard to see from this photo but the middle section has been doubled up so its thicker than the steam cylinder, and of course, plenty of power cables!
If you approve, I can have 40 of them ready by next wednesday when the post office opens again!
@Conrad, Brilliant!! Obviously I cant condone a diorama which is in any way disrespectfull to GW.... :p
Ill try and get the bionic legs out pretty soon, Im sure they will be worth my while as the arm bionics are very popular.

Its been a little quiet on the Anvil Industry front recently, but rest assured I AM working on new product! Ive been learning to CAD design, which is really exciting as it will enable me to produce a massive range of new components with 3D printing technology.
Over the next 6 months or so I will be producing a whole load more weapons, including a selection of energy weapons coming soon, and Anvil Industry's first full vehicle kits, which im really excited about!!
As with the smaller backpack above which I made at Lone Dirty Dog's request, im always looking for new product ideas, so if there is somthing you want to see, do leave a comment!
I have a very heavy workload, but every idea contributed is considered and valued!
Im hoping to get a few new heads and other bits done over the bank holiday weekend, so stay tuned for new releases!
Sorry been away just got back, sent the misses to bed so I can come and look at what I have missed.
Well first impression Is I LOVE IT !!!!! nice job better than I had expected will work well, though a scale shot would be cool just so I can see how it will work
Overall look is pretty dam cool and will work well with the other packs so 40 packs how much will that work out at plus I want 20 of the other original packs as well
Do I get a discount LOL, if you can drop me a PM with the cost that would be great, thanks for this look forward to hearing from you soon
Wow, I've just checked out your page, and I have to say that your sculpting quality has increased enormously over the past couple of years. I made a brief list of things I'll be wanting to buy - multiples of about 20 different products. Or maybe a bunch of Unit Body sets with a pile of extra accessories on the side...
Are bionic arms likely to make it to the Rifle Arm sets at any stage?
The quality of these are excellent and obvious. Well done. However, why do the two heads on the left have a mouth guard that is bolted into their ears? Am I not seeing a strap that goes around the back of the head?
Space Marines who have no helmet (And are not SC's, for some reason) have some sort of metal bit that goes up to their temples. This looks like an addition to that.
I guess I would have to see the one you're talking about. I guess I'm trying to compare it to this head which has a strap and such holding the mouth-piece in place.
Yes, I'd typically say that a marine's helmet that's had the upper portion detached should still have the bit around the back . Though seeing as these aren't marines I would say that it may well be the case that in this universe they're held on by the super steam glue of a space....steam slug. =P
kronk wrote:I guess I would have to see the one you're talking about. I guess I'm trying to compare it to this head which has a strap and such holding the mouth-piece in place.

Spoiler:
Here ya go Kronk. Straight from FW.
Thanks, but that doesn't show the back of his head.

On a topic not related to your sculpting, you site still virtually never loads for me, and appears to be a somewhat common problem for other US based users. I work at a helpdesk which supports several companies, and as a result I am sitting on 5 completely different networks. Your site times out on 2/5 of them (it's not blocked, I checked the firewall logs).
You really should open a ticket with your webhost (godaddy, right?) to have this investigated, and if they can't figure it out, you should consider switching hosts. There are a bajillion hosts out there, and you're literally leaving money on the table as long as this goes on.
On a topic that IS related to your sculpting, they really have gotten quite nice. Here are some things you might want to consider:
1.) Pads that have hazard stripes molded on. A know a great many players have a hard time painting straight lines on curved shoulderpads, and so far as I know not a single 3rd party vendor currently sells rounded shoulderpads with raised\recessed hazard stripes.
2.) New torsos with raised, integrated front collars. My friend "Marc Aight" says people love hanging out with him but he's pretty hard to find, and there aren't any other guys I can hang out with that look too much like Marc Aight.
3.) Gladius with plain handles. Holstered Gladius. I understand the "MegaSoldiers" like to carry Gladius into battle and use them as ornaments.
4.) Shoulderpads with squared-off spikes on them, maybe a row of of them. People always like punk rock.
6.) More heads with medieval stylings.
7.) Chainsaw Axes. I suspect a lot of people would want these in sets of 5.
8.) Chainswords that have larger, fewer teeth. The teeth should be a strip cast in clear resin that slot into the axe. I think Cosmic Dog players would like those.
9.) Paired long-barreled rifle for large robots. Some of these exist on the market but none of them are really as nice as the OEM ones. You, on the other hand, have a flair for weapons and I strongly suspect you can succeed where others have failed.
10.) A conversion kit for the Stupidhawk. Unfortunately, this will likely necessitate buying a Stupidhawk, but with a good enough conversion kit it might be more despirable... my thoughts are making paired gatling guns for the front that are much smaller, and making your own paired Widowmaker-style tips that fit inside the front vents (along with maybe some angled laser cannon-style ones). I could understand you might be more concerned with developing your own Steam Lords rather then making a conversion kit, but I think the first person to make this kit will do well with it, and again; you're very good at weapons so I think have the best chance at doing it right.
@newabortion, yes mic beads will certainly feature.
@ouze
Thanks very much for the great list of suggestions. my Comments in bold.
1.) Pads that have hazard stripes molded on. good idea, Ill consider it in future pad releases!
2.) New torsos with raised, integrated front collars. coming up soon
3.) Gladius with plain handles. Holstered Gladius. been on the to-do list a while, Ill get to them eventually.
4.) Shoulderpads with squared-off spikes on them, will see what I can do!
6.) More heads with medieval stylings. coming up soon
7.) Chainsaw Axes. Hell yes! on the way!
8.) Chainswords that have larger, fewer teeth. The teeth should be a strip cast in clear resin that slot into the axe. I think Cosmic Dog players would like those. To complicated for the time being.
9.) Paired long-barreled rifle for large robots. Some of these exist on the market but none of them are really as nice as the OEM ones. You, on the other hand, have a flair for weapons and I strongly suspect you can succeed where others have failed.
Not just a paired cannon, but an ENTIRE KIT of a Steam Lord encased in a mech/walker unit, is coming up, complete with numerous weapon options which will all be available separately.
10.) A conversion kit for the Stupidhawk.
As with the walker mech, I will be making an entire new aircraft/gunship, concept photos will surface soon along with a pre-order system for people who want to help fund the development kickstarter style.

Four new products available later tonight-
new Compact Power Pack
Grill Heads set
Visor Heads set
Plume/Top Knot sprue, suitable for use with almost all 28mm scale heads.
Hope you guys like the new stuff, all these new bits were created at customer request, so if you have anything you want to see, please post full lists, the more ideas the better!
They are all fantastic Joel! You have really developed a great line of miniatures and I just love seeing more getting added to it. The heads are a great addition, I was not too keen on the helmet designs as they looked a little flat but these heads are very well sculpted, great work!
@Commander Cain, Thanks very much! Still lots more to add before the range is done and then Ive got quite a few other ranges to work on! Ill be busy for a few years yet I suspect!
@Everyone else,
Very pleased to announce the new product is available now from the store www.anvilindustry.co.uk
The new products are on the home page "Featured" section, in their respective product categories and also available as options in the Steam Lord Unit set.
Ordered some cloaks from you and they were fantastic Joel. I'm gonna have to get some steam knights for my not mk 1 unification force that's noot set on earth (wink wink)
I already sugested those if you read past posts, all three of those if I recall, he said yes.
If your in a hurry for some PEQ-15s then use the Tau rifle sights, they arn't the best but they'll do until we get better ones.
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/450439.page half way down you can see me useing one on one of Joels' widdow maker rifles.
When you do start your guard line of products let us know because I'll annoy the gak out of you with ideas about howto vary your products. For instance, If you order a 10 pack of NVGs why not have 3 differant types?
Single scope
Double "Bincoular" type
or the Double eye enhancing sight (http://www.infraredbinocularsreport.com/wp-content/themes/productreview/images/atn-high-performance-night-vision-goggle-pvs7-3a-31.jpg)
You could also have 2 differant heads with the NVG straps ( #3) in the pack to make even more variaty.
Just saying....
It's taken me a little while to get around to finishing the models they're on but here are a couple of photos of your bits, Joel -
Siege/Boarding Marine sporting Medieval Pad. This bit was a revelation and I'm going to order a ton more so I can not only finish this squad but maybe start another (be quiet wallet), it really helps to achieve the heavy duty aesthetic I was after.
Sergeant and Assault Marine sporting Heretic pistols. As I mentioned in an earlier review the chunkier rounds and design of this pistol were exactly what I was after for a squad dedicated to killing CSM's
Hope these help convince people of the quality of your stuff (though your own photos are more than doing that).
One question, are the chain glaives in line for a resculpt? I'm eyeing them up, but I don't want to buy them and find you've done a nice shiny new version!
@newabortion, thanks for further suggestions, when I get to it, Ill be posted the entire "guardsman" project up for critique and suggestions and will welcome all ideas!
@sgt.roadkill, I dont know what to say.... err.. thanks i guess :p
@sockwithaticket, Awesome!! thanks so much for posting those photos! they look great! I love seeing the parts on finnished models, as I actually get no free time at all to build/paint my own stuff, so im entirely reliant on customers!
I can confirm the Chain Glaives are not in line for a re sculpt, Im actually very happy, the few components which are still to be re sculpted have mostly been withdrawn from sale. The plan is to get a lot of new stuff out over the coming months, and look back to see if anything needs redoing as and when the production molds wear out.
GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENT-
If anyone has been trying to get on the website today and got nothing but errors, this is because we were changing the website to a new server.
Everything is fixed and in order now, and more importantly, the new server is much faster and should be more reliably accessible.
@Ouze, and other Americans who have had trouble with the site over the past few months, im hoping the new server should work much better!
Got my guard sized bionic arms today and they look good. Same for the shoulder guards I got except that they ended up being too big for those arms so I have to think about doing something else with them. They look very good so that shouldn't be a problem though.

I have read the whole thread, but since it runs for 14 pages over several months, I didn't recall your suggestions specifically.
Hey Joel - got some of your bionic bits the other day and I'm mightily impressed.
I'd suggest some semi-powered fatigue legs. Because, with some semi-powered legs, a regular power armour body/arms, and those visor heads with topknots, I CAN FINALLY BUILD THUNDER WARRIORS!
@ Joel, thanks to your new server I can actually get to your site.
You have a number of items of interest. I greatly appreciate the power-axes. I am wondering if you have any plans to make them being held in the left hand?
@d-usa, cool. yeah the pads are all scaled for the medium bionics so a little big for gaurdsman sized models. I am planning a number of smaller should pad options when I get to the guardsman project though.
@Arbitorian, Cheers! I will certainly be releasing new leg sets in the future, but no specific plans along those lines at current, next up is a "tech" style Steam Lord leg set.
@Scott, great news! So far the new server is working much better and more importantly loading much faster than the last server (which we recently found out was hosting over 5000 other websites!) as its a virtual dedicated server.
Several people have asked about left handed versions of the various melee weapons, so this is certainly something I will sort out in the near future.
I ordered some heads and backpacks from you in the past and was very impressed with both the quality and speedy delivery. The winged beaky helmets look great on my Ravenwing bikers.
Anyway, I'm just wondering if those new helmets look any good on Space Marine Scouts? The ones that look a bit like Thunder Armour helmets? I'm worried that they might be a bit too big, resulting in bobbleheaded marines.
El_Capitan, thanks very much!
The new helmet/visor head should look ok on scouts, the heads which the helmets are modeled on are the same size as a regular marine/scout heads, I think they are about the same size overall as a cadian IG helmet, perhaps a fraction larger.
Legion, Thanks, and cheers for the suggestion, Crests are always suitably generic! Ill look it up.
Conrad, They are on the to do list a long with a lot of stuff! but consider them moved up a few places!
Im going on holiday on the 26th, so Anvil will be closed for a week, still taking orders, just a delay in shipping stuff out.
As of the 5th July, Ill have cleared any backlogged orders, and will also have some full time help with day to day running, which will free up a lot of my time to work on getting new releases out as quickly as possible!
I will compile a short list of projects, and will work on them in order of how many people vote for each one (Ill set up a poll).
I saw your rifles used on an IG conversion (on a blog on this site) - they looked great but a little bulky. The poster mentioned you said you were planning on a line of weapons designed for IG. Is this so? And if it is, when!? Would love to buy some.
I am planning a full range of human sci-fi infantry, which I hope to start work on later this year, unfortunately I have a lot of projects I want to work on, so I cant say exactly when I will kick that one off, I will probably try to get the smaller versions of the guns released before the main project, so people can use them for conversions a little earlier than would otherwise be the case.

The pump shotguns look dead on size wise? Kai, the wonderful gent at Imperial Armoury took a few side by side shots of it with the GW loose lasgun, and they looked great as far as size comparison?
alarmingrick wrote:

The shotgun and automatic shotguns are pretty much exactly right.
The scale issue with the other guns isnt that they are too long (they are about the same lenght as a lasgun) its that they are very chunky, so look oversized in the hands of a guardsman.
The new rifles will be around the same length, but just a lot slimmer.
Hey Joel,
I'll second Conrad on the bionic legs. I'm doing Fe Warriors amongst other projects, so I'm always on the lookout for bionics - especially if they're incorporated into the Unit body sets.
Still planning to order a decent sized pile of stuff right after my wallet recovers from the current barrage.
Oh, and I'm sure this is on the drawing board, but I'd love to see some kind of Heavy, "truescale", tactical "Exterminator" type-armour for the Steam Lords.
Even just torsos and legs (and shoulder pauldrons) to start with, that could be compatable with both existing heads that you already offer as well as sci-fi armoured arms available on the wider market.
scipio.au wrote:Oh, and I'm sure this is on the drawing board, but I'd love to see some kind of Heavy, "truescale", tactical "Exterminator" type-armour for the Steam Lords.
You have no idea how long its been on the drawing board and how much I want to get started on this kit!!
There are about half a dozen major kits I want to complete, and im hoping to have all of them done by the end of the year, so one kit/project a month.
The Steam Lord "Exo-Armour" will be quite different existing heavy armour miniatures, Ill be going for proper realism, so the added bulk and height will all be the exo skeleton and extra armour plates wrapped round the Steam Lord Mini.
I will be putting up complete sketches for feedback before I start work on the 3D printed components.
The leg bionics are also coming up pretty soon, they are one of the smaller projects I want to get out the way before tackling any larger stuff.
This is good news! I have utter faith that you could pull off a really good looking model, one that I would probably go crazy over and buy far too many sets for my own good!
Where is this giant list of stuff you have planned!? I am curious to see what we could be expecting from you in the future.
I'd also like to see some "nuclear guns". I know it's cliched, but you really can never have too many of those; and though there are many others on the market your talent for 28mm firearms indicates yours are likely to be superior.
Thanks very much! I will be really keen to get feedback on my proposed release schedule, so I can work first on the stuff people really want!
In July, I will be getting up a lot of concept work and details on my proposed projects, and devising some kind of pre-order system.
@Krimson, Rivets and Ork stuff is more Kits thing (from zinge Industries) but I will expanding the range in all sorts of directions over the next few years!
@Ouze, the CAD files for my Anti-Matter Rifle and Fusion Cannon are actually Works In Progress at the moment, expect to see some serious energy weapon related firepower In early August! Also coming up are Anti-Material sniper rifles and some Steam Lord Heavy weapons.
@megatron, I already offer "small multi-pose bionics" which are the correct scale for Cadian sized miniatures.
I will be released similar "small leg bionics" in the nearish future.
Some point this year (Dont know when exactly) I will be releasing an entire "Modular Guardsman" product range, which Im really excited about, stay tuned!
Thanks very much for the feedback and involvement guys,
Hey Anvil I'm advertising you stuff again.
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/60/450439.page#4440068 All those business cards you sent me are gone, my FLGS let me place them on his counter along with a picture of how I was useing them on my guys and 2 days later they need a refill.
I hope you do decide to get those stickers or the dice idea you were throwing around.
Important announcement- Anvil Industry is on holiday!
I love this job, but after working non-stop for a year, I need a break! So Im flying out to Sweden in a couple of hours time.
This means I will not be able to dispatch any orders until the 3rd of July 2012 (one week from now).
To make up any inconvenience, and thank my customers for their awesome support over the past year, Im offering a 15% discount while I am away.
You can place orders as normal, and then use discount code HOLIDAY to get 15% off your entire order, including the whole range of products.
When I get back, I will work as hard as I can to catch up with any order backlog, and then get on with the much more important job of sculpting a lot of new products!
on holiday but still monitoring things and really gutted the site it down, we moved to a new server to avoid stuff like this!! argh!!\
apologies to all for the inconvenience, I will do my best to get it up and running as soon as possible.
Please be assured, that everyone who wants to place an order with the discount will have the opportunity to do so, I will extend the sale period if needed, and anyone on Dakka who wanted to place an order but wasnt able to, can PM me for an individual discount code once the main sale is over.
Awesome holiday, very relaxing, batteries fully recharged and back to the grind stone for another 6 months of 60 hour working weeks!
I will be frantically casting and packing (and roping in as much assistance as possible from family and friends) to get caught up with orders, and hope to have everything back to normal by next Monday.
The server problems have hopefully been fixed now, and though the holiday sale is officially over, you can still use the discount code until tomorrow evening, so if you've been planning to place an order but not got round to it yet, the coupon code is good for another 24 hours.
Newabortion wrote:Still down for me Joel, might be because I'm in America?
Sux because i gotta go to work and 12 hours from now the sale will be over.
Try accessing the site from a different web browser, and/or clearing your cookies, The site IS there, but if you are loading an old version stored in your browser, it will throw up an error page.
Dont worry about the time scale, just send me a PM when you are able to access the site and Ill sort the discount out for you, same goes for anyone else on dakka having troubles with access.
I have cast and packed up all holiday orders, two full days ahead of schedule, so Ill spend the next few days sorting and organizing, and as of next Monday, I'm going to have a serious planning session to figure out the release schedule for the next few months.
I will be posting up all the projects Ill be working on and looking for feedback, between now and then, if there is a component or accessory you would like to see, please post your ideas, I will do my best to make anything which I think is a feasible product.
If you've previously suggested things, please be assured I am going to read through the thread and pick out all the suggestions for inclusion in the list.
Eagerly and excitedly waiting on my figures. I bought 3 sets of "figures" - though they'll be farmed out as "bits" to make some of my Loyalist and Chaos forces look much cooler. Shame I had to pack away most of my figures for moving.. :(
@Newabortion, excellent feedback! and agreed in principle!
@salamandermarine, thanks very much!
@LDD, coming up.. at some point, see below-
@Gary, large oval bases (90x120mm I assume you mean?) is somthing I would very much like to so, but the molds would be technically very difficult to make, and im not sure the demand for bases would be high enough to justify it.
What is more likely is a "basing kit" of resin parts which could be arranged on a regular flat base of any size, to fit a certain theme. As that would be more flexible and much easier to cast.
@Scipio - they are on the way! Hopefully on the ground in Aus already, Id expect the parcel to arrive within the next 5 days if there are no customs hold ups.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT-
A good friend of mine, Charlie, who has been helping out part time for a while, has now joined Anvil Industry full time.
This frees up a lot of time for me to work on new products, and hopefully means that from now on new releases will come out a lot faster and I will be able to make a dent in the backlog of ideas floating around my head!
Here we are at Salute back in April- Thats Charlie on the right. Welcome aboard!
New product coming out next week- Its robot madness!
For Steam Lords-
Full sprue of Bionic Rifle Arms including 5 different sculpts.
Bionic Legs
Bionic Heads
Bionic Torsos
Excellent Work, I am very pleased that you are going from strength to Strength.
I've just bought a load of Bionics off Joel, very pleased. My Iron hands are getting some Bionic Love and are looking at me from the painting table.
Looking forward to more Bionics and time to do that AD-MECH allies force I was thinking about under 6th Edition Rules.
I was going to put a pauldron on him, but because he's an Iron Hand, I think he would wear his Arm proudly like a badge of honour.
Charax wrote:decided to put hands on your large bionics yet then?
Without being mean about it, I would agree I would like to buy some Terminator sized Bionic Fists, and maybe some oversized Bionic fists, that look almost like a Large Power Glove / fists ( hint * hint).
Gooood, gooood! This is excellent news, the promise of more new products and some bionic bits which I am sure I can find a use for! I eagerly wait for updates...
mwnciboo, thanks very much for posting the photo, looks great! where is the mini from? is it an old metal one?
---------
I'm Currently working on some Veteran/bionic versions of the "bare heads" product.
The first bionic leg product will be a couple of the "medieval" steam lord leg peices, with chunks of leg replaced with robotic components.
Further down the line I will be doing a "multi pose" 3D printed bionic leg set, which like the arms will do both sides and be available in a few different sizes.
Charax, yes I am, it was a good suggestion and I've finally got round to it!
In addition to a few multi pose arms, im going to include a couple of one peice arms with more power cabling. and some bionic hands - pointing, holding pistol grip, holding sword grip. and I think I will also chuck in a large bionic "energy fist" of some sort..
The new sprue will have to be a bit more expensive as a result, but should be a lot more usefull for easy conversions!
I will take some preview photos tommorow afternoon.
ooh, the Energy Fist sounds good - I picked up a load of Kit's Mechanical Fists at Salute, and they're nice but very plain and small - if you did a set of big 'uns with lots of surface detail, that'd be awesome
Congrats on being able to hire a full time employee Joel! Tell that bloke to get a haircut! I'm sure your Bionics will sell really well and I'm looking forward to seeing them.
mwnciboo, thanks very much for posting the photo, looks great! where is the mini from? is it an old metal one?
---------
Indeed, he is the old style Metal Techmarine, I want to add a Servo Skull, Servo Harness, etc, so he can be one of my Thunderfire Gunners. He was more of a bit of a play with the bits you sent me this week. The real fun will be my Pre-Heresy Morlock terminators, but you'll have to wait and see (I will send you the WIP pics), however I have spent a small fortune on these guys and I want them to be suitably EPIC.
Giant Bionic Energy Fist will be pure win, I'll put my name down for 20 already (termies and Sgt's of units).
So, some actual new product to show off! Its been way to long!
I released bionic rifle arms as a single pair a while ago now, and they have prooven really popular, with some people purchasing 5, 10 or even 20 of the same pair of arms, so here is an updated sprue of bionic rifle arms- this time you get 5 pairs, and each one is a different pose, one pair has some added power cabling on each arm, great for hefting larger energy weapons around!
You may notice the insides of the shoulders have small holes/marks. Each left and right arm pairs have matching patterns so you can pair them up correctly, same with all my other arm sets.
Here is a photo of the arms in use on a couple of Steam Lords, and these minis also preview a couple of the new "Veteran" heads which will be released tommorow.
FInally here is a WIP shot of a new bionic torso, which has a socket joint to fit a bionic arm, which will be supplied with the torso. Great for converting sergeant/commander models, or just regular squaddies who have taken a real pounding! (also displaying another WIP veteran head)
The new bionic rifle sprue will be available in the store tonight, the new torso, and heads sprue, tommorow night.
For the large bionics, Ive started work on the various bionic hands, but decided to hold fire on the energy claw for now, as it would be a lot of work, which would make the sprue a fair bit more costly. I will release an energy fist product separately, which means I can CAD design it, much better quality for that sort of thing.
Commander Cain, The armoured melee arms are on the list, I will try to get them done in the next couple of weeks but cant promise anything. The continual flood of new stuff is certainly a conundrum.. I will be doing my best to update this with info on what Im working on, so everyone has some idea whats coming up next.
The Bionic Heads are superb, more IH sergeant heads is great stuff for me! (disappointed about the PF's but i'll wait or buy the ones from Puppets War).
mwnciboo, you will be pleased to know that in the end "cool" overuled "logic" so the bionic power Talon will be included on the sprue afterall, its currently 75% built.
Left handed initially but will almost certainly also release a left/right paired version separately.
well, Joel, you don't do a lot of stuff I like (not my style, really) but your bionics have consistently been great, can't wait for them to hit the store!
Im pleased that all of you seem to assume Ill do a good job of making the claw!
Cant resist a quick photo of the master, Im about to put it in the mold.
What do you guys think? its in two parts, the main claw, and the thumb which is fully posable. The whole claw then sits neatly on top of the bionic forearm peice.
When Ive cast a few of these I will make a left and right pair with posable fully armoured arms.
I will add these new arms, and the torso and new heads, to the store tommorow evening (If mold making goes to plan!)
scipio.au wrote:It's an excellent start, but I feel it needs to encompass more of the forearm, pretty much right down to the elbow.
If you mean the forearm looks a bit thin to support the giant hand, I agree, I'd prefer a bulkier forearm, perhaps by adding pistons/cables to the current one.
The hand itself I like - sure it's oversized, but that's the whole point of having a bionic power talon, right? One that was merely hand-sized would be much less fun and probably much less useful in combat...
@masterslowpoke - the housing for the thumb needed to be sculpted on the claw, hence left hand only so far.
@SickSix, Heavy weapons have been on the to do list for a while, they are on the way.
@mwnciboo, I guess it comes down to personal preference, Im not a fan of the bionic commando claw (also dread to think how I could sucessfully cast "fingers" like that)
@Scipio and Clang.
Agreed, but I had to make a trade off, If I had integrated the claw into the forearm as one peice, it could have been bulkier, but it would then have been impossible to rotate the claw on the end of the arm, which is somthing I feel is important for getting a minis pose "just right".
Bionic/Veteran heads - various bionic alterations, skull studs, horrific scarring etc, these guys have been through hell and are still fighting!!
Bionic torso, supplied complete with compatible bionic arm and pistol fist.
an assembled example with one of the new heads-
and the new parts on the large bionics sprue-
the new sprue contains 4 multi pose ambidexterous arms, 2 right hand bionic pistol grips, one left hand bionic sword/hammer grip and one fully poseable power claw, again for the left hand.
Lots of boring business admin over the next few days, but hopefully some new product before the end of next week, along with an exciting announcement!
I like the look of the bionic claw arm Joel I even quite like the bionic torso (though not a SM fan myself) maybe I could use him as a large catachan commander
Luuurve the bionics! You know what would be nice? Some guns along the same lines as the widow-makers for the large bionics albeit a bit beefier though you may be saving them for whenever you release the heavy armoured steam lords!
Commander Cain wrote:though you may be saving them for whenever you release the heavy armoured steam lords!
Yep! and Ill get the "Exo Lords" out as soon as I possibly can! Certainly before Christmas! (I know that seems like a long time away but I have a lot planned!!)
I could do a sprue with 2xpistol grip, 2x rifle fore grip and 1x sword/axe grip, All in left handed bionics?
Joel
Sounds good to me! angryboy2k's correction to my original post was a good one-- even though some of the art erroneously shows the Iron Hands with bionic right hands, the left hand is the important one here.
I am seriously thinking of getting a set of 5 of the Steam Lords (which comes in at $17US- with all the selections, still cheaper than a GW combat squad!)
I always thought Anvils designs looked like MK1 and 2 power armor. So suddenly I had the weird idea to meld my copy of Rogue Trader (or a copy of the 2nd edition rules) with my Necromunda rulebook (for the skirmish-style handling getting wounded) to play out some skirmish-level "post-apocolyptic" games set during the conquest of Earth with the first appearance of Thunder Armor against gangs and bands of muties.
Or what is essentially the same thing but easier to approach, set it in the Fallout universe, with Steam Lords as Brotherhood of Steel.
@Aegisgrimm, I actually posted something on this forum about this in the last few months. I was talking about the popularity of Pre-Heresy stuff, and I could see that the next logical step would be to do the Unification Wars/ Age of Strife so WH29K, bearing in mind how popular 30k is, it kind of makes sense to model thunder-warriors and Thunderer Armour and even look to fight out the conflicts when the emperor was trying to unify Terra. Even if it was more of a Skirmish Necromunda 2.0, call it "TERRA" or something.
On topic, they are some very nice models which you can do alot with. I would really like someone to do some, not-quite-but-almost-arbites, there is a lack of Carapace armour models out there for Grenadiers, Arbites etc. I really like the PIG IRON PRODUCTIONS stuff, but would prefer it in Resin or plastic.
If I get a squad set of 5, I will definitely get the bionic torso bit along with the rest of the parts needed to make a 6th figure , I think it looks pretty good.
You can also even make a complete set of Thunder Armor by using the "visored" heads with either of the medieval torsos, though I seriously doubt I will, as I feel that even during the barbarous "Unification of Terra", if the technology available could build partially powered armor (Thunder armor had only the top half "powered"), they obviously would have realized the benefit of fully enclosed helms.
Possibly Auto-senses hadn't been fully developed/perfected yet? The upper torso "powered" armour would theoretically just be like a strength-enhancing armoured exoskeleton. With the legs not powered it makes me wonder how they could walk, let alone run with all that weight on their frames, built-for-war proto-marines or not...
scipio.au wrote:Possibly Auto-senses hadn't been fully developed/perfected yet? The upper torso "powered" armour would theoretically just be like a strength-enhancing armoured exoskeleton. Supposedly the Thunder Warriors were almost as strong as the Primarchs. The official Armor Through The Ages kit makes it very clear that the Thunder Warriors wore only chain mail and plate armor on their lower bodies...
@mwnciboo, carapace armoured mini parts are on the "to do" list for sure.
Unrelated to Anvil Industry---------
Thunder Armour fluff- The open face helms I can understand, the lack of auto senses makes sense, but yes, exo enhanced upper body is ridiculous.
Supposedly the emperor realised that most close up fighting required a lot of grappling strenght, but you have to get close to the enemy first..
Modern day attempts at exo skeletons all have a starting point of working on the legs to allow faster movement and higher load bear capacities. And in M29 they surely would have sufficiently lethal firearms to make close combat total unnessecary.
but hey.. this is the 40k universe so nothing has to make sense!
Back on topic----------
Working on a few new bits and peices, and also expecting some awesome new minis from Miniatures of the North in the next few days, which will be manufactured and distributed by Anvil Industry, so should have some new releases up soon!
Auto-senses being appropriate or not, my Thunder armor marines (or techno-barbarians, as marines hadn't even been engineered by "Imperial" forces until towards the end of the Unification of Terra- about when they made the jump to space travel to get to reclaim Mars and beyond) will be getting the "Spartan" style helmets, as they look awesome, with or without the crests. I think crests will be for my squad leaders, Roman-style.
Even without auto-senses, a full helm with clear lenses is far better protection than an open-face helmet and 'sunglasses"!
On-topic, I'd like to see some weapons other than assault rifles and shotguns for the Steam Lords to hold. I know meltagun and plasmagun analogies are hard to make without infringement, but flamethrower units or grenade-launchers would be pretty cool.

I'd love some flame throwers that dont like like GW flamers
Full range of Steam Lord "interesting" weapons coming up in the next few months, including Anti-matter rifle, Electro Scythe, Fusion cutter, Anti-Material sniper rifle, chem/flame thrower and anything else I can dream up in the mean while!

It's not just about protection, though. It's about vision, hearing, mobility, efficiency and ability to react. Even, presumably talking about Space Warriors, especially without auto-senses.
That would be why modern shock troops look more like this:
I guess even Bomb Disposal guys want to look good in this seasons latest gear! :p
Thanks very much for leaving feedback guys!
I will hopefully have some new product from Miniatures of the North, and some new previews of upcoming Anvil Stuff, to show everyone later tonight.
Cheers,
Joel
Automatically Appended Next Post: And just past midnight, here we are-
Very pleased to offer for sale these awesome new figures from Miniatures of the North. Original sculpts by Icesword, and Anvil Industry is manufacturing and selling them.
These miniatures were an absolute joy to cast and assemble, so really hope to get plenty more of the MOTN range in the store over the next few months.
Imperial Borderers-
Squad of Six, supplied in 4 parts. Purchase 30 or more figures and they cost just £1.33 each! (pricing subject to change as Icesword has not confirmed yet).
The full squad-
The Body Sprue, this is how they come out of the mold, virtually no clean up required.
And here is the Occult Investigator, not sure exactly what his background is, but im sure IceSword will chip in with some info!
This is a single peice resin figure supplied complete with a choice of gaming base.
Got my order this week and opened it up yesterday. Very impressed with the quality. It's much more like plastic than Resin in terms of handling it - very nice stuff.
Shame my marines are packed away for moving, or I'd be dispersing the parts now amongst quite a few groups.. :(

I think MiTN guy said that not all of his minis would be done by Anvil per se, so it should stay open I'd say.
Yeah, MoTN isn't an "imprint" of Anvil, and his previews and sculpts are still going to be upcoming and of course - his own.
My Borderers arrived this morning too and all I have to say is every other resin caster in the world should be paying Joel for lessons. Here's one mocked up next to a future ally (also sporting some Anvil gear),
As you can see the proportions are excellent and apart from clipping parts off the sprue that is exactly how the Borderers have arrived i.e. with no flash, mold lines or other casting issues.
Now that is some Scale.... despite the Height being almost the same, the difference in build shows a Human next to an Astartes, I'm fed up with Catachan's with Biceps the size of an Astartes Thigh in power armour! At least yours (height aside) give off the right size and build, nice Casting too. (So without derailing the thread look at this Quality, made by a 2 Man band, compared with a Corporate giant who produces Finecast?)
Joel will you be doing any True Scale 28mm/32mm Knights per chance?
I think that is one item on Joel's ever growing list of things to do! There should be enough stuff on that list to keep you busy for a couple of years by now!
And Not just Cultists, but Retinues for Priests, Inquistors, add in some Bionics and you've got TECHGUARD! These are awesome, you could even do some interesting Dark Angel Scouts or Pre-Heresy Scouts, or even some nice Pre-Heresy 1k Son Acolytes.
Necromunda, Redemptionists, they might even make a good basis for Sisters of Silence.
Those CULTIST Models are going to sell like Hotcakes.
beautiful work, those sculpts are some of the nicest non GW humans i've seen around! I actually want to buy and paint them for no other reason than I love how they look!
Saxon and Sockwithaticket, thanks very much for your compliments about the casting. I try to ensure every component I send out is exactly how I would want to recieve it!
If any major corporation with serious resin quality control issues were to approach me with a suitcase full of "truly surplus cash", I would be more than happy to help them out.
Thanks also to both of you for posting the scale shots, very usefull!
@mwnciboo and commander cain, yes I certainly will be doing large Knights at some point in the future, and yes its on my never ending to-do list, but I am trying my hardest, and Im very glad to have IceSword contributing miniatures now!
@Icesword, cheers for the photos! I know there is another thread but you are very welcome to post any WIPs of stuff you intend to send my way, in this thread.
Really lookin forward to getting those awesome Cromantians in the molds and on sale! as Icesword says, should be about 7-10 days from now if everything goes to schedule.
Im spending this coming long weekend camping which might slow things down a little, but rest assured Ill work like crazy when I am here!
Make me human-sized arms with sexy shoulderpads that fit your weapons and I will love you forever. And by love you forever I mean buy lots of them.
Sincerely,
Me
P.S.
I don't expect them to fit the MaxMini Combat Armour Torsos, but that would be a godsend.
P.P.S.
I can't think of how I'd ever use them, but those Crowmantians look sick.
I count components from 5 different manufacturers on that miniature! thats dedication!
Human scale arms, and also versions of my rifles which are slightly scaled down, are definatly on the way.
From Mid September right up to Christmas, Anvil Industry will be neglecting the Steam Lords and focusing on a full range of sci-fi human infantry and conversion parts!
@ Alpharius, do you mean the Borderers?
Im about to send IceSword an email badgering him for 4 more poses, including a sergeant, to make up a 10 man squad with all different poses.
Im not sure what he has planned in terms of heavy/special weapons.

Ah yes, sorry - The Borderers - exactly!
4 more poses (for a total of 10) would be great!
I'd love to hear that he does have specials and heavies planned too...
I would love some borderers "action" poses - like kneeling and aiming, etc. Once these poses are released I am definately be buying quite a few of these.
I'm having fun envisioning a self-contained world combining the Steam Lords and these new trooper variants. Some sort of Fallout-esque world that distills the Imperium down into a single world, with Steam Lords as a power-armored "Brotherhood of Steel" faction, the robed SMG cultists as a machine/Technology cult ala Mechanicus, and the Borderers as some sort of standard militia.
Joel has persuaded me to do a couple more Borderer's so I'll so where I can schedule them in.
Already in progress are 3 armoured Borderer’s (with separate torsos and legs to get more out of the poses), a commander model, a heavy weapon team and a communications guy.
It'll be interesting to see how they are received.

It'll be interesting to see how they are received, they're not your standard GW proxies...
Given the quality of the figures to date, I would think they'd be well received indeed!
I know that I'll be picking up a lot of these once they're all available!
Received a pack of Storm Lord bits that I ordered for a new project, and have to say I couldn't be more pleased. Perfect casting quality, not a single missing area or destroyed detail, in more than 30 pieces. Really great little sculpts and I can't recommend them enough !

I think it's great that someone has the imagination to try things like this, and I only wish we saw more of it..

Hey,
Thanks very much for taking the time to leave a review! very glad you are pleased with the parts!
More General Announcement- Anvil Industry is away on a long weekend camping, so I will have extreemly limited access to the internet untill next tuesday evening. orders placed over the next few days will be dispatched next wednesday.
Apologies for any inconvenience, the good news is that when I get back, I have lots of tasty new releases lined up!
Even when all poses are meant to be stiff, I find the modelling of the knees odd. 9 test models and only one knee bend (on a forward curved upper leg it seems), but in reality you can see the knee even with straight legs. And long coats are cut straight, so one expects folds where the belt is, not a conical cut widening towards the feet. Just some feedback by me.
Looking good... Balance the photos in Photoshop if you want them to look even better - the sepia seems a bit strong
Out of interest, how do heads from other manufacturers scale with the boderers? Due to their excellent thin scaling, I am interested if anything else fits - particularly thinking GW, Pig Iron, Maxmini, Micro art etc. I like the borderers but I don't have a need for the gas mask heads
Anvil Industry is back from our brief Hiatus and ready to rock and roll..
We should have all orders dispatched within the next 48 hours, then I will be focusing on the next lot of MOTN releases which Im expecting in the post shortly.
IceSword - they look awesome! cant wait to see them in the flesh, and get me those techno dudes I saw in the blog!
@WingWong - the Borderer heads are quite small, look on the previous page of this thread for a comparison to a few other miniatures.
I dont know of any heads from the manufacturers you mention which would fit, but as soon as I get alternative heads from IceSword I will make the new options available, I think all the heads from his range will be mostly interchangable.
Thanks Joel, awesome service as usual. Keep up the good work and sexah casting.
Any chance you could go down to Forgeworld and show them how it's done? While you're at it, pop into GW and give them a step by step for their finecast
@Wingwong, thanks very much! Ive not been invited to advise any other companies on their manufacturing process as yet.. which means more time to get my own products spot on!
Some updates-
Here are some shots of the Borderers IceSword posted earlier, we have an awesome camera and lighting rig to really show them off!
And the fearless Investigator
and... NEW Cromantians - available to order now for dispatch from next monday/tuesday onward.
They are looking interesting, though I have to admit that I like the originals just as much because you get to see all the armor that looks like early-pattern armor.
Love the fearless investigator, now you need to do one of the after version, after he's found what he was looking for and is a morphine-addicted mental patient. ("The most merciful thing, I think, is the inability of the Human mind to correlate its contents...")
@Warpcrafter, Icesword will certainly consider it im sure!!
Very exciting news for Anvil Industry-
Im typing this post from our NEW PREMISES in London.
Anvil Industry started off in my garden shed, so this is a big step for the company and we couldnt have got this far without the support of all our customers, so THANK YOU for your support!
At the moment everything is still being sorted and organised and things will be a bit manic for the next few weeks leading up to the COLOURS wargaming show, which we are looking forward to attending!
From Mid september onward, things will have calmed down a bit, and the extra space we now have will allow Anvil Industry to get working on a massive ammount of new products!
I look forward to sharing the details with you guys as soon as we have WIP's, sketches, or even random ideas to post up.
Congratulations, I hope it works out well and goes from strength to strength, given the quality of product I have bought from you in the past I have no qualms about your products.
Only just discovered the Anvil Industries website (via this thread) holy crap, there's some awesome kit on there, will definitely be purchasing some of these bits and pieces, and I have a feeling those pretty bases are going to start making my Orks very expensive!! Ho hum, they're just so much better than anything I can come up with for basing, that I just don't care!! *Skips away in over-excited, heel-clicking glee* *realises everyone on Dakka is watching, straightens up, clears throat and tries to act cool whilst walking away muttering prayers to Gork, Mork and the Holy Throne*
I'll be placing an order fairly soon, and I cannot wait! Your stuff looks to be awesome quality, and I could not fault any of it.
One request I have is for some none-solid-shot ranged weapons, such as laser pistols or more esoteric weaponry. But regardless, I'll be getting a lot of bits and pieces and I look forward to it.
@charax, yep Salute was a lot of fun, so we are trying a few others, Colours is smaller but hopefully that means we will have a chance to actually talk to customers rather than being rushed of our feet!
@LDD, yep, as you know, human scale stuff is coming!
@Rhodry, yes Ill be making that at some point.
@4oursword, a selection of energy weapons is on the drawing boards, including laser/pulse rifles.
back to the modelling desk I go! which is now convenienly located right behind the computer desk, I just have to turn the chair round!
Excellent news, congratulations on the expansion of business!
Have to say the bits I received were absolutely perfect, wonderful little examples of casting and no errors.
Hope you don't mind me posting this here Anvil's Hammer, I used some of your bits to make a techno-barbarian/lightning-warrior, he is in spoilers below (for some idea of what you can do with the various bits)
