well all in clay this will soon get very heavy... do you have a plinth for t to say on?...also i think you then will need some good and strudy metal rodas or better pipes to provide support...kind of like a skeleton...

I know how to build the perfect skeleton for just such a 'miniature' allowing to also have removable arms and head for easier detailing. The only problem for that is that I need to get out to the hobby store and the hardware store before it can happen...
Well.. I'ld have to draw up a to size set of plans as well so that will buy me some time to get out...

The back looks as though it needs a bit of build up so that it will be flat in profile and rounded at top. Like the MK-II helms are supposed to be. FW has their MK-II"s on display at multiple angles so that may help you out, Otherwise looking great so far Silver!

I think 1 to 1 is good. make it about nine inches tall.

Post by: dsteingass
You have to understand Vik, we cannot visualize things in metric like you do. To us, it's all in feet and inches. The average man is 6' tall, A wall stud is 8' long (7' 3/4" really) the average fishing boat is 13' long, etc. etc.
55368
Post by: SilverHayabusa
Oh my!
Try being a Canadian in drafting...!
This year is all Imperial system.
Next year it's metric...
As it stands it's conversion all the time...
@Max - Yea! I think it'll eather be 1:1 or 2:1 so 9" (22.86cm) or 18" (45.72cm)
Nine inches feels about right..
But alittle small at the same time...

Nope! ^^ But their is now...
Okay. So this is the base that I've made for an anchor point for my Large Scale (reffered to now as LS) Space Marine. It is not much but I wanted to walk through from the begining of the project and it's going to get coated in clay and crap all throught the project so the good base is waiting until it's finished.
The next step is creating the skeliton for this beast which is tricky since he's going to weigh a good 3-4 pounds I think...
(Means hand twisting 20 guage wire into 40 than 80...

@ Max - Yea I've missed your valued input and help on this but glad that your back around!
@ Vik - Should I make you a mini hobit being tortured?? And working on that progress for you.
Well almost done 'turning' out the wire for the skeliton.
So that should be together soonish I need to get out and to the store for some square brass (or other metal) tubeing for the removable bits and then I'll be in full swing on this guy!
I'm planning on him just being in a plain standing position. (I know it's not all that exciting) Just so that I can get some practice under my belt. Then I have a special character that I want to make! Mwahahaha...
I shall post some WIP skeliton photos tonight!

HMMMM.... very cool sketches... and makes me wonder if you should make them come alive by yourself! envisioning such stuff is half the work done to the actual model itself! the sword alone is someting i want to see being made... and the shield...worth for warmachine and such themed universes...!!!
the engine and the feet...all very thought through work there... don´t waste that and make your own walker...there can´t be too many walkers out there!

Planning thought is that it could possibbly be a knight titan!
I think that those just sound awesome.. .. and I am planning to at some point build my own. but in the mean time I want to show Jake because I would love to see what he can do with these thoughts!
I want to see how others can adapt and make these thoughts into their own creations. And to get the thoughts out there to all of you so that I can start to refine the designs before I can get to building them myself.
I want to pace myself because I tent to be the type of person that will go all in. Get fed up. And then drop said thoughts without getting to my potential.
Which is bad.
In my opinion at least ^^

i like those sketches...
the dread has a bit of a pre-HH look for it with those larger legs...
and the twinshield look for the knight looks very good...the steamgun...i want to see how you get that done in plastic and other materials asap^^
i like the legs of the knight...but the knihgts head looks not right... i think a later version...more in detail should solve this tho...
as for the empirial sketches...i like the last two the most... the first one has potential but needs more work i think to see what is what...
the second...more roman or rather greek looking one is not my style... but that is just taste...so forgive me my opinion^^
oh and yep...i have to second the orky look of the SM^^

Is there a set scale for them? I keep hearing contrasting heights.

perposterous levels of testostorone... perposterone
55368
Post by: SilverHayabusa
@ Vik - I'll see what I can pick up at the store to put together a test of the steam gun..
The Dread looks alittle off balance to me but that can be fixed. I'm thinking that it'll be a pre- HH that has been beaten through the ages.
As for the IG I think that the last two are also my favorite!
@ Jake - I'm going to make the knight 12m tall. My friend loaned me Mechanicum and so far they've only mentioned Paladin-class Knights which are 9m high. So I deduced that there are many (or at least a few) classes of knight. I might see that there is before I finish tho. 24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
to get the better recognizable SM look i would alter the shoulderpads acordingly...those are pretty iconic for the look...
the torso and abs look very good tho...
the random doodles...wonky mixture...one resembles a david star? and the other one i wont name might get you into trouble...
the new knight sketches tho are a giant leap in the right direction...well if i was the maker^^ as the assault gun will be one of my favoriote choices for weaponry for all time^^, also the head looks way better now..i like those rimssections specifically the best...with all those rivets! but this will be tricky to build i guess or do you have a clever plan? i hope so...because consider it then nicked^^

Oh Vik! I didn't even think that that looked like that...
Boo. Now thats all I can see....
I thought that it looked like a cool storm shield design....

I love the assult cannon! Who wouldn't love mowing down rows of infantry with those?

I am glad to have pleased you Dave.
I have been to the hobbie store. And that pleases me. To no end.
It is better then santa's workshop...
So I got a haul! But with no camera comes the lack of haul pic's which makes me unhappy...
I will however say what I did get:
Hobbie saw & miter set from zona
4oz. Milliput
1/4 & 5/16 square plastic tube from evergreen
Armmature wire!
And some new sketch pens.
This all means that the Space Marine can start! Woot!
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
hey mate... don´t feel bad about the above mentioned sketch...that shape somehow creeps inside us all too often... i had while plaing with the kids with lego oh so often built this shape out of bricks... somehow it is very easy to enfd up with it...
i thought the head to be difficult because of the riveted up bands... how i would aproach this i woul use "L" shaped rods of PC and this would hamper me no end... because sometimes i make myself more problems in designing than is needed^^
the hobby saw will be your next new friend... i bought me recently a micro saw and i enjoyed every cut i did with it...thse thingies saw in both directions with ease... something that really helps to get clean cuts on a very small scale!
I love the assult cannon! Who wouldn't love mowing down rows of infantry with those?

Post by: SilverHayabusa
I think it's that it feels good simitry wise. It has balance and flow. And alot of bad associated with it...
As for the head I plan to make the base squareish shape and then to add thin strips of plasticard to it along the seams to simulate strapping and then glue the rivets to that.
It already is a very nice friend.
Assembily of the frame for the space marine is underway. I just have to wait for the putty do harden so that the rest of it can be formed.

Post by: Viktor von Domm
i think that is a good idea max! what will he be wielding?
55368
Post by: SilverHayabusa
I hadn't given a lot of thought to what he would carry...
hmmm...
I don't want it to be to standard. Nor to complicated. He's just going to be in a standing pose and if I like how he turns out I'm going to make another in a more action pose.
What type of weapons do you guy's think?
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
well...
you could go down this road:
or you let him lend on a really bit hammer... heads up his arms resting on the hammers head just as he would be doing if he had finished a huge battle...maybe later on you could add some orkheads on the base...slain enemies and so on...
55368
Post by: SilverHayabusa
Thanks Vik that was what I was starting to invision!
That really helps to clear it up in my head!
Although mine might be alittle tall. But we can see when he's done.
What about a hammer resting on his shoulder and shield in hand? Or Hammer and bolt pistol? Or... Something else?
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
well...if you have a statue look in mind... i think some weapons or rather poses with these are out of option here... i think the pose should look like he is either praying, cheering, contemplating, resting, musing, or downright stiking an enemy...like st greorge that slayed the dragon... so a bolter i think is too heavy looking... boltpistol would work... but the pose then is key... shield and either sword or hammer/mace would also need a special pose...currently i am at a loss to these tho... for me the hammer is best... a nice two handed one... but that is totally my idea and yours should be your own...

those two thoughts...mixém together and do a sketch mate!! i think there is win inside that idea! the pointing arm tho means you need to sculpt a power fist on him for sure...otherwise it would look too skinny for a statuesque gesture...

Post by: SilverHayabusa
Okay so since I'm still trying to get a camera type situation set up at the moment I thought that I should post a verbal update on the progress that I have been making thus far.
Firstly it's going slower then I would like it to since this armature is far larger then what I am used to making and much more complicated because he has built into him four removable parts. Both of his arms his head and his pack are removable for easier detailing and moulding in those hard to reach locations and althought I have the knowledge on how this works I have never done it before and am running into and fixing problems as they arise.
When assembiling the body of the armmature I got over excited to be working on it and thusly made the legs to long and didn't have the material to finish the torso so I had to splice the top to the bottom of the wires. However him having longer leg sections has given me the room to add a base to him for a more statue like apearance.
Another problem that I am facing is the milliput that I got at my local hobbie store is a pain to work with. It's the only putty that they had so it's what I got. It's alot crumblier then I thought it would be and doesn't make near as strong of a bond as I thought it would. So I have had to reattach and add inforcing to it in places.
I've formed the arms and the basics for the head and had to break and reconect the attachments so that he could be posed the way that I would like him to be. And wiring the hand was a pain in the butt but the right are is done and waiting for it to dry so that I can see how it worked out before I go onto the left hand and the frame for the pack.
Thats the report for now as I'm currently waiting for stuff to dry as always seems to be the case so we'll see what hapens next...
24297

yea... which reminds me i really want squats back, but more like space dwarves compared to the space halflings they used to be.. some hard badass space mining crew, or space oil drillers would be awsome

RW this is how they should look...
Its the Demiurg concept sketch they did at FW before they shelved the entire project.
Remember Demiurg (The remnants of the squats, but evolved further) are a commerce race, and known to deal with Tau in that sector of the galaxy. Few in number, but have technology that is far superior that the majority of races in the game. The few times Imperium ships have had conflict with Demiurg ships, left the Imperium reeling from the encounter. The ships spent years limping back to a safe port.

they have a limited fleet for Battlefleet Gothic, but tbh, with the firepower those bad boys throw out, you don't need a big fleet. Look em up on lexi.
