bleh no tau, demiurg kill team! or munda gang! ... btw childe i know what website you mean by "Lex" i know i've been there before, but for the love of me i can not find it, and forget it... care to share the full website name please please
Thank you for what you said about my sculpting, it's nice to know people appricate your work. If you liked that space marine statue piece then take a look at my page, as i've recenlty finished a whole new batch of statues, and am currenlty working on a large seated Inquisitor Lord statue, which should be finished soon. I'll post up some work in progress shots as soon as i can.
Lots of work done.
But none relating to anything fun...
Thrid semester finished and now into summer "Vacation."
In other word full time looking for a job.
However I can not hold of work any more on the statue or I might die.
So I'm going to start soon.
I am most deffinatly back!
However... Not so in to work.
Thought that I would be getting time to work on my statue since
I'm now in summer vacation. But lucky me got a jub for the summer
amd have to move. So no new work...
However!
I got a new phone that has internet so I took a photo of the skelliton
which I hope to post as soon as I figure out how...
I will at least get on to comment when I can and to post ideas that I
come up with.
That is definately a skeleton! It looks like you have each finger able to pose too, you are really going to get detailed here! I can't wait to see it come together!
It looks like it's just a very basic pose right now, are you going to make the marine doing something dynamic? Or just standard firing pose or something like that?
How tall did you end up making it?
A scale shot next to a 28mm scale mini would be cool!
It would add about 300% more work to it, but if you could make it articulated, that would be awesome!
for a sec i thought this was your first work on your titan project... then it dawned upon me that you want to make the SM sculpture... i am totally with jake here... your skeleton looks good but it needs a dashing pose...!!!
also... welcome back in the saddle mate! and would you mind giving the pic a nudge so that it is not standing on it´s side?
by the way... what is that stray clutter? will this be built up to be basing material...? good idea tho the pic isn´t helping to really tell heads from tail here^^
Pictures on my phone sadly...
My plan with the marine is to give him a modified double thunder hammer design. I want at some point to make a space wolf army and I'm thinking that this guy is the head of this branch off chapter.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I'm thinking. But not sure how it works fluff wise..
Automatically Appended Next Post: You got to love National Building codes....
*cough* ... *dies*
Pain in butt..
Anyone want a freestanding shed thats as large as a bungilow?
LOL. I might be able to add in some skylights for you Vik so that that lawn of yours will grow. And just think. You could mow in the rain! So if your 40k stations out there it give you an excuse any time!
Even in the middle of winter!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Okay so just before I head back the the hotel califorina I wanted to toss out my idea's for the army that I want to start. This ones been around for a long time in my head but I haven't said anything on it. However I've had some new thoughts related to it in my head this week and I thought that if I get it all nailed out while I'm away I might be able to actually buy and get started on it when I get home.
So enought yappering on my part. No one cares. You're all just here for the thoughts not the life stories!
So I'm not an expert so any one with more knowledge and a better fluff understanding help me out by pointing things out and letting me know how to fix.
General Notes:
Space Wolves (It is a space wolf army. I've heard alot of people saying things about the tornament lists but..)
My general feeling is runnign about the same as your typical SW fluff. except that this is a branch off chapter and althought they feel that the typical SW are related see that relation as only distant.
I'm going for a strong viking feeling from them.
The comander is a dual hammer wielding mainiac based of thor.
Instead of the fenrissian wolves their mounts are going to be elete dragon riders. (Ice dragons)
(...darn out of time. Back tomorrow)
Automatically Appended Next Post:
So the dragon riders are inspired from a photo at I found on the galleries that I will post tomorrow so that you can all see what I'm aiming for.
Thoran as my leader is called is a dual short hammer whilding madman. As with typical SM he's super poweful. I want to make him able to through his hammers but although theres a character that can do it I don't think I can.. (if you know otherwise pease let me know?)
So in honor of there leader many of these SW take up the use of the hammer.
can´t say that viking SW are a new thing... but i like the dual wielding thoran... sounds cool... and maybe if he uses these as throwing weapons they could be count as rocketlaunchers? i mean it is basically a missle the thrown hammer, right?
well i´ll be waiting for further fluff and pics then
yup... i like^^ where will you get all these needed smaller dragons from ? i think this will be a very interesting scheme for an army of SW... and they definatly need a bit of twist... the standard viking setting is a bit stale by now...yours adds the needed spice!
I was thinking of doing that Blueprint Tutorial that Vik and Max had been talking about alittle earlier in the thread and I wanted to know what people would like to have covered?
What do you all think would make things easier or what have you wondered or wanted to know?
Letting me know this will allow me to come up with something rather quickly instead of just having me sit here not knowing what to say.
Just kidding. How about a reminder of what the tutorial was suppoesd to be about? I forget. And to be honest, I hate trying to go back to see who said what and when, I don't even like doing that in my own threads.
And for smaller dragons, try looking at plain lizards or something and either leaving them wingless (which would be cool), or making the wings yourself.could make the whole thing yourself!
SilverHayabusa wrote:For sure shaso!
I've loved the fluff since I found out about them.
I want to give them myown flavor tho so think of these guys as vikings+dragons.
Good choice, My own Marines are Salamander based and have the name "Dragons Errant" Their Gene-curse shows when their eyes teeth change,, but more so when they grow a cranial ridge and ridged eyebrows!
SIVERHAYABUSA: Sorry for the lack of updates this week guys...
It's the end of the semester and I have a design project, portfolio, presentation... and bla bla to do....
Got to love house planning!
MXWLLMDR: Education has to come first.........
So, educate us........
SIVERHAYABUSA: You want to learn how to draw a set of blueprints???
Or watch me do it?
MXWLLMDR: Hell if there is a choice I choose both, professer. When does tye lecture begin? I can't see blueprinting as an unnecessary skill in this hobby........
SIVERHAYABUSA: I think that it could be very useful....
Expecially if many copies of things are to be made....
DIDDE: I'm with mxwllmdr! teach us! ;D
ROUGUE WOLVES: ok everyone, sit in a circle.. open your hearts and minds...aaaaand....
DSTEINASS: ...pass it around
ROUGUE WOLVES: NO, not unless you chip in
VIKTOR VON DOMN: yeah...praise the lords and pass the ammunition...er...wrong kind of phrase here?
yeah teach us...if you can teach us it shows you´ve understood it yourself^^
and yep...tho that it was just a mere alteration of someones earlier work i think it looks quite cool^^
SIVERHAYABUSA: Okies... I will do so...
Well attemp to teach what could be relivent to scratchbuilding..
Not sure how much will translate through..
And Vik. I may know how do... Whatever it is I'm learning to .. do...
But not quite sure how to translate that into modeling..
VIKTOR VON DOMN: well...we see about that...and if "I" can understand it you have basically broken down your knowledge so much that it is now an essential part of your way of thinking...or...you can recall it in your sleep as we used to say^^
SIVERHAYABUSA: Sounds good..
- I can try to relay the basics of laying out a building.
- Where and how dimensions should be placed.
...
Can you think of anything else that I should focus on?
My course outline as it were?
VIKTOR VON DOMN: hmmm... i think questions will arise and then new stuff will be explored...but that sounds like a good start?

Okay so this camera/phone/internet thing is getting alittle easier to figure out.
... Yea I'm slow.
For those that didn't see my skeliton progress before dakka.. dakka-ed my photo here it is again.
And since I'm unable to work on my projects for this summer I can at least upload pictures of other
idea's that I'm working on. Such as this fighter that I'm designing. (Say thanks to Dave for hooking me...)
Thanks DAVE!!! I mean it! ^^
Your jet looks awesome!
Yea sorry about that. It was my first picture with my new phone camera.. Still learning how to use it to get good shots. Good camera just bad me.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Okay so these photo's are in better focus (I think).

This is a thought for a jet bomber.
The truck to me looks way to orky.. But I don't know what to do about it. I love this idea and have been toying with it for a while so I thought I would sketch it and put it up here.
i agree the truck looks too orky, and that picture of it launching and opening its wings makes me think that its like a bat-plane... now i think that to get the truck less orky, model it to be a military vehicle and not a bigrig which it apears to be
oh.... you can chuck out those pics like anyone^^ the sketches all look very cool! is that a lying skeleton on that flyer? cool concept!
and may i add my 2cents to the mix? i think the rocketlauncher lorry looks cool...not too orky... i think it resembles a launcher of soviet origin... we germans i think labeled it stalin orgel aka stalin organ.....
hmm my only concern is that if you want it to be an IG flyer, i would make the wings much thicker (although i know you want them fold away), because its kind of hard to get that look and not make it fantasy, although you could stay with those wings, but the main body of the plane would have to scream 40k
nope... i don´t hate the blinds... colorblinds do tend to get on my nerves a bit , if they dress in disturbing colors tho...
and by all means... i can´t stress enough how we all look forward to you getting a bath... how long has it been since the last one? acording to the amount of dead flies all around you....like...four months now? give or take the odd week
The skeliton is a rough in for the standard sizing of a human. Just so that I could try and see what the proportions would have to be so that it would work.
My thoughts on these little basically vehical launched gliders is that they should be able to fit into the 'feel' of the DKoK. World War 1 or 2 ish. Low tech and week looking almost as if they're made out of wood. (Although they're not).. That they would be quick and cheap to build and just slap a man on it and let him go!
And guys... I think I might have some industrial degreeser from work lying around somewhere. If we use the whole jug it MIGHT take SOME of RW's grime off...
i think silver it is not the grime that is offending with RW... i think sometimes a pair of socks could be even better working on the right part with him than any degreaser...
i just had a thought... instead of water.... we could clean him with washers...get it...? lol... that will surley rinse off everything...^^ like a sandblaster...
Viktor von Domm wrote:i just had a thought... instead of water.... we could clean him with washers...get it...? lol... that will surley rinse off everything...^^ like a sandblaster...

Sorry Vik.
A.M. Stands for Azlar Morin my current D&D Character that I'm playing.
He's a newly created class of my own design who I'm playing through to make sure
that the class is balanced.
Okay RW. I'll share although not all of it since I'm on my stupid work computer thats encrypted so my flash drive doesn't work. Means that I have to type what I put up...
If I did it all it would be 6 pages but most of it can be found in the 3.5 PH.
Class: Arcane Dueler
Arcane Dueler's are an uncommon sight in the world, to the point of almost not existing. Tutored and trained only slightly by other arcane spell casters they are set on their journey to increase their capabilities on their own either by their master's choice or their own. Arcane Dueler's are the fusion of wizzard spell casters and heroic dueler's full of valor and the urge to do the best that they can.
They tend to rely on their agility in combat using magic to it's advantage in fights and they tend to do better than fighters in social situations. However they are not as adept as rogues in these scenarios.
Okay I'm delving into the terrain that I've been inspired to build when I get home in September...
Yesturday I posted this in the LIDS comp. Although unable to enter it myself I thought that I would try it out even tho not as an entry.
So I took that sketdh and I'm taking by drafting skills at it and playing with the layouts. I need your help. Layout 1 is what I had originaly thought of but I think 2 might work as well. Vote and let me know which you prefer.
definatly the second draft... the first one looks a bit weird to me...tho if push comes to shove... your initial sketch looks the best so far!
and why do you are not able again to build and join the comp? seems i have again forgotten vital data...
and no... i wouldn never diss canada... i even toyed from time to time to move to canada in my youth... heck if my family was any better at a foreign language...tho french really was always so complicated with me^^
I had a dream last night... (No not dirty)
If I can mannage getting a (perminant) job down here next year and get a house. (Cause they're dirt cheap here - But reasale's a pain...) With a large freestanding garage (Most of them do) (Some the size of large barns) I think that I will make a giant -=L,=- logo to hang inside from the ceiling! Mwahahaha...
Then. Maybe invite all you good peeps up for a -=L,=- "convention".

I could use some suggestions / ideas / playability feedback
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Night all and have a good weekend see yea on the other end.
Having recently trashed a board that had a permanent canal / rover through it, would advise against it as a permanent feature. It is really cool at first, then becomes increasingly more annoying with terrain placement as you try to mix up your layout. Also limits placement of objectives, needs bridges wide enough to handle a Land Raider / Battle Wagon...
i see skalk´s point... but i have to say the three bridges approach looks good to me... going back to skalks comment... make that modular river and bridges sections and you are set!!!
by the way... nice ring to it... temple of "=][_="
Skalk Bloodaxe wrote:Having recently trashed a board that had a permanent canal / rover through it, would advise against it as a permanent feature. That plan looks like it would make a beautiful modular layout.
(3 2ftx 4 ft segments) I second skalk's comment about the static river/canal. if it's merely a segment then you can swap it out for a non river one if needed.
@ Skalk - I'm going to make sure that the main bridge can let any vehicals pass through it as well I am thinking of making the board in 2'x2' squares so that it can be reorganised and designed for a veriety of layouts.
@ Vik - The temples going to be the pride and joy of this board in my opinion. The two buildings that I've wanted to build terainscape wise have always been a large and overgrand temple and a apartment building... Also have idea's in my head for many of the smaller buildings that go on the other side of the board.
@ Dave - Thanks man! Then I will work towards that!
Okay still working on the ideas for the appoc city board but thanks to insperation from Galorn I'm working out some idea's for a trench board that I've been thinking of for a while.
For both board idea's for focal point's or little scenes are welcome!
I'd have a main highway of some sort coming out of the gate, and the trenches/earthworks built around that, since they wouldn't destroy the road to build the trenches...you may choose to destroy the road or make it unusable by shell craters or barricades, but I'd definitely have a road of some sort going into the gate.
Well, If I were you, I'd assume all the trenches were dug by the defenders, but then the attackers have occupied some of those trenches and are dug in. Approach the board as all pat of the gate defenses. Roundish Heavy Weapons pits would be dug in at strategic locations covering the approach to the gate.

The plans look awesome so far dude, While I think the idea of the road is a cool one, I also think if things were to be transported from city to city, it would be shuttled not risked on a road convoy imo. But having said that If you go with a road I'd have it exiting the walls but split into forks to run either side of the trenches instead of over it. as I think in the logical side of things having it run over the trenches would possibly obscure possible enemy targets.
If that makes any sense lols? Either way Looking forward to seeing you build this badboy!!!
I'd just make sure that the attacker-dug trenches are out of range of the wall (24" should be safe) otherwise the defenders basically just let them dig in on their front lawn
The theory behind the road is that it would run out of the town and into wherever for 'local' trafic. The attackers used it as they approched and then dug in through it and bombarded the last sections.
A thought that I had is that I could put a set of train tracks right throught the noman's land. Representing whatever planetary good were being shiped..?

There are examples of WW1 trenches where attackers and defenders built their redoubts so close to each other they had conversations with each other, plus in 40K books like Storm of Iron they dug so close they managed to undermine the walls of Tor Cristo (I think that was the citadels name) and place demo charges.

so does that mean you'll have the road undermined with the trenches?
The railroad is a cool idea too, I always loved the one in the Apocalypse book too!
well... i have to pull my head to you sir... all that planning ahead... something i never was able to do...at all... i always develop things as i go along... but i can see how this is a fun and rewarding thing to do...
as for ideas and so on... beyond the stuff dave, galorn and childe have said... i am of little use here... all that strategic talk i just read is way over my head it seems^^
Is the Machine Gun Nest dug in? Or is it a pillbox? If it is dug in, then you should connect it to the trench system, you wouldn't want your ammo runners to have to go "over the top" just to get there.
@ Vik - I'm sure that it really isn't over your head.
@ Dave - I'm thinking that it would be a pillbox set into the top of a hill so that it would be able to sweep noman's land. Maybe with a rear entrance dug into the hill?
and if you are still not decayed after everything... the other threads of mine have planty of nice stuff too... scratchbuilding GS ogryns... the airship...and lots of others^^...but the first one might suffice so to say
I had a few idea's of little things that I wanted to try and make.. But where we had been living in a hotel when we moved down I didn't bring any modeling stuff and where I won't get to go home until actually moving back i'm kinda SOL....
But I can plan and I see materials that would work for certian ideas and think... Never stop thinking...
On other news constructions going amazingly well AND I might just have found wood for building boards! Scrap wood from the wall sheathing! 1/2" ply! what a score. Now just to ask if I can take it and then to get my Dad to bring the truck on his next visit and I'm set for like 3 tables... At least base wise...
if you are short on materials... start with cardboard... scissors and kifes and PVA and you are set... when all is painted mostyl no one will know the difference to plastcicard anyway... IF it is built sturdy enough...
I was thinking some sort of modified open.
With some sort of backplate to the drivers compartment to sheild them from the rocket flare when the flyers launch.
I'm wanting to get playing some form of 40k as soon as I
can and that got me to thinking that maybe I should look into
Necromunda since it seems based around smaller
settings. It seems like it might be cheaper and get me
started on conversions and terrain building.
And since the boards only 4'x4' it would take less time and
money to build. I hope.
My main problem is that I know nothing really about the
game. Other then what I've looked through on Dave's and
Bruticus' threads.... The latter of which I've just started..
I don't know what makes a good board for playing. For that
matter I don't even know what makes a good gang. OR what
a gang really is other then a smaller group of mini's...
I've just downloaded the rules form GW online.. And I have
some idea's for what sort of gang I might want or at least
where I'm going to start looking. Any help that people can
offer will make my life easier as I am a dreadfully slow
reader.
ahhh.. I envy you silver... necromunda is my favorite 40k game, yet not one of my gaming group wants to play it! they'd rather play mordheim !! its so sad
i bet that when my son is able to read (estimated time around christmas...) we will start with munda... i think it is the right game for him and me... we are RPG´s through and through...so that should be a good way to play together...
and well... terrain with walkways... lots of nice cover and such thingies...
as for gangs... anything goes... no limit... i´ve read somewhere where you could use your armie models with extra rules as gangs too...dunno where tho...
Briancj wrote:
Necromunda works great early on, but you need to cap the campaign, because the value of people's gangs can get out of hand, quickly.
THIS I know we dont play Mordheim because my gang was too good, and I had enough money to bribe most people, and they dont play Munda anymore because they said 1 guy took overpowered lists too much
TBH the same goes for all GW's specialist games, as they don't ever get round to updating them for new editions... BG and Inquisitor are the same unfortunately... and BB hasn't changed in what seems like 15 years
I used to run a Necromunda league, and the way I managed overpowered gangs was set a gang rating cap. Your gang can rate over, but you can only bring the 'capped' value to the table, meaning some models don't play or they limit their special weapons etc.
Huh... That sounds good. Although I think that by the time any gangs that I could get playing would be that overpowered enough it would be time for a new one to be made.
I also allowed gangs to 'dissolve' and rehire a couple of the really brutal guys but the rest of the gang was fresh. I ran it for over a year. Had a lot of challenges but it was pretty awesome, totally worth the effort.
Okay so I'm back home! Sorry about the sudden disappearance that may have not caused people to worry lol.
So I move home to a lovely welcome back presant waiting form me from Dave! Thank you so much man once I figure out how tracks work this tank will look a million times better!
SilverHayabusa wrote: Okay so I'm back home! Sorry about the sudden disappearance that may have not caused people to worry lol.
...you were gone?
Looking forward to seeing this project finished, have always been interested in scratch-build vehicles but never got around to doing any myself (except for a few Ork buggies).
Good (morning, afternoon, evening or goodnight) my fellow dakka's.
So to get me moving in some scene of a direction again on this downpour of a first day of classes I started some work on an idea that I had earlier in the summer.
I thought this was cool because it almost fits into that first contest that we had here hosted by our overseer Dave having to do with lids.
I am back and into the swing of things since christmas!
To start you all off I recived a wonderful christmas gift from my wife! The Space Wolf Battleforce!
That ment that for the game I was orgainizing for my birthday I was able to play my own army!
WOOT!
I also got a a space wolves pack and a venerable dreadnought!
So after a week of mad man building between visits with the whole family I had myself a playable force for
the new years eve party!
Now that the game is over and a few lessions learnt I'm taking them back to the work table and tweaking
some of the things that I didn't have time for (Or knowledge of..)
Thanks Vik!
Closer looks to come for certain!
I'm planing on doing allot of at least minor conversion with most of the modles
so as to keep them all looking unique and space wolfy. Although I did take the pains that non of them are the same as another.
I'll make sure to get you some close ups on some of the models including
the one that seems to have snuck out of the shot.
So I grabbed a quick shot of my grey hunter squade and one of the blood claws so that you could see closer up shots.
Grey Hunters
Blood Claws
Blood Claw Drop Pod
I don't intend to do a whole lot of conversion to the drop pod
as I see it any of the accessories that they would add to one
would burn up before impact.
Bjord the Fell-Handed
He is going to be my most heavily converted model for the
forseeable future. I have an idea thats been lodged in my
head for this one. I'm starting by bulking up his armor and
carving in some runes of protection. Hopefully I'll have
some of the plates done and tacked so that you can get a
better look tomorrow morning!
Then I'm going to make him look 'alittle' more dangerous with turning his close combat weapon into a giant wolf claw
(I haven't seen one to my liking yet so we'll have to see what
I can come up with..) and make his feet look like he could
both cut you in half and keep his balance.
Then comes the green stuff for a giant wolf head and pelts
to drape over him.
