Congrats on the win.
There were a lot of beautiful armies shown in the pics. I think your paint jobs were amongst the best, if not THE best. I am certain that the fact that you scratch build every tank and had so much custom modeling on every model is what put you over the top.

Well done on the win, it was deserved (and exceptional, some of that competition looks great as well).
I didn't realise just how massive those Russes were until that shot with the Tau piranhas driving into the gunline. I can just see them cruising along thinking happy thoughts, and then a huge 'oh Crap!' as they see the armoured might of Vostroya round the corner...
How did the tournament go game-wise?
And ideas on what's up next project-wise?
Again, congrats on the win.

Post by: Develain
Thanks guys! Appreciate it very much.
@MagickalMemories: I agree with you, competition was very stiff, especially when there are Display boards. But the intense converted proved to be game-changing.
If anyone is interested in the voting scores:
IG: 24
Tau/Eldar: 13
Eldar: 10
Marines: 9
@Paradigm: The Russ turrets are pretty massive indeed. Gaming wise? lol.. 4 defeats and 1 draw .
The Army was just to ''recreational'' for a Grand Tournament hehe, but that doesn't mean I didn't have great games!
Next project? probably gonna pick up some older projects. Thinking of Eldar the most.

You should consider making Eldar exodites.
Consider using cold ones as jetbikes and perhaps a dragon as a Night Spinner or Fire Prism... The canvas to work on the idea is pretty wide.

I'm getting army requests now eh? haha.
Catachans aren't gonna happen. I've seen enough Guard for a long time now, and sorry, but catachans aren't my cup of tea exactly. But that's what we have you for Beeb! Filling the void called catachan armies!
Exodites then? Cold ones with eldar riders has been done to death I guess. Would be a pretty intense project making that interesting.. Plus I already have a ''normal'' eldar army.
and I'm not the kind of guy that makes 2 armies from the same codex.
@Radu: Don't know if I will post the next project on this thread, since I already have an Eldar thread lying around..
But if I do, I will make sure there will be a link to it anyway!
P.s. Just noticed you are from a place called Kettering.. Guess you don't wanna know what the word 'Ketter' means in Dutch..
47942
Post by: bebopdrums2424
v_v,,,,i might just have to do another Catachan army and paint it in your style then.......
What about a "counts as" ORk stormboy army using the guard codex? Heavy weapon teams and all....could be cooooooooool......
Or how about a futuristic lizardman/dinosaur army like Turok...Dinosaurs with headgears and eyepieces and fricken lasers,,,???

Since everyone else is doing it...
Chaos Space Marines would be an excellent opportunity for you to put your exceptional scratch building skills to use, with tanks, walkers, etc.
Chaos Daemons would give you an opportunity to show what you can do with Daemon conversions.
An allied mix of both would let you show off BOTH talents.

Okay, I don't know what your opinions are with fantasy armies, BUT you could make a Lizardmen army themed with ancient chinese warriors, and could include some creative terracotta skinks or saurus... gamewise they could be used as Tomb King allies with perhaps a Skink High-Priest animating statues to help the fight.
a Slann as an old and wise monk would also look cool.
You probably won't do it, but I'm just throwing the idea out there..

I already have a Chaos marine army. And even if I would expand the Thousand Sons, I got no concrete ideas for that. Think I am going for Eldar skimmers this year, but more on that later.. As for scratchbuilding.. I am really considering making master models of things I've made last couple of years and start casting them. Maybe even kickstarter it. But those are future plans @Radu: hahaha nice one!

heheh, No ofcourse not!
It will be a forgefiend to be specific. I didn't like the model from GW from the start, and still. lame Dinobots.
But this gave me the opportunity to scratchbuild something for this army and not a tracked vehicle for once
Here is an almost finished leg heavily inspired on the contemptor obviously (although it will dwarf a regular contemptor ):
The upper body will look nothing like the contempter though. I was thinking something more in line with this upper body from the Stormwall, and place the Hades autocannons where the cannons are positioned :

I love the Thousand Sons, and have been contemplating doing a pre-Heresy force of them for a while, and your work is certainly inspiring (if somewhat intimidating!). The mosaic bases are, as others have said, fantastic, and I love the marble Ankh symbol on top of the Rhino.

I bought the Dark vengeange box when it got released, and hadn't used a single model for an army so far , until I used a chosen it for the previous marine I posted couple of days ago. Too bad there are only 2 of the same bolter marines in there. But there was this one fella though: Thought it would make for a cool new Aspiring Sorcerer. Chopped the power fist arm off, removed his horn or whatever is on his helm (not very tzeentchy anyway), and got rid of his bolter. Complete new left arm, with a force sword from the standard Asp sorc. And Voila, Ahrimans squad has an apriring sorcerer: And one with different lighting and a dark background, so you can see the effect on the sword better:

Current state of the 3rd rhino:
Going to make a complete new front-plate, like the other 2 rhino's. And decided I didn't like what was going on on the top, so removed practically everything there.

I like the changes! I like having metal look like metal, so removing the blue edge lines I think makes it look more realistic (for a fictitious space tank...). I also like the change on the arrows as it ties in the colors really well.
But what I'm also impressed with is the white! How did you get it so smooth? That is very clean, and necessary for it not to look sloppy (mine often look sloppy).

Hey guys, I have a little announcement. Thousand Sons are on a hold for now. As we are not attending the Dutch Grand Tournament with our gaming group this year. (Nothing bad happened btw, it's just that we weren't looking forward to it when the rules for the tourney came out in August).
So with that being said, I shelved the Thousand Sons for an unknown period. But that means I am going to make other stuff during the TS Hiatus.
As the title says right now: Impy Fists.
I still had the Tactical Squad from Dark Vengeange lying around. removed all the DA iconography and started paitning. Here is what I came up with so far, still need to do some freehands on the shoulderpads and knees:
I can say I'm pretty happy with the result. Yellow is great colour to paint, and pretty easy with the new paints around, also played around with a little battle damage.
I also dug up an old Land Speeder I found at my parents house. With some plating added I don't need to explain what kind of pattern this one is going to be :p

It's been a while!
With the GT missing last year in my usual warhammer calender (went 8 years in a row) my P&M was downgraded a little bit.
But I havent been doing nothing. Yesterday was our annual painting comp. in our FLGS. After about 7.5 hours of painting I came up with this:
The Crimson fist lieutenant from the 40k 25th anniversary, switched to the Imperial fists!
The picture isnt the best, lighting isnt optimal, and the focus isn't exactly right, but wanted to share it with you guys nonetheless.
And since this will be a Thousand sons / Imperial Fist log coming months, here is something Tzeentch related:
I finished the base for the Forgefiend:

I tried to take a picture with my own phone, I think it's slightly better.. Still not great though.
I gotta get a tutorial on how to photograph yellow models well..
Oh I got this picture of me with the award that I won with it
Thousand sons are up next time!

Congratulations indeed! That is an awesome trophy, too! Talk about "Scratch Built..." Those are the best kind.
Excited to see the Thousand Sons project continue for sure. The mosaic bases are amazing, and really tie in well with the yellow/blue color scheme.

Thanks Panther!
Worked on the Forgefiend torso/sarcophagus for a while now.
But it's finally finished!
I loosely based it on a Warmachine mech, that big blue one, forgot it's name though. I went for Hades autocannons, because plasma cannons wouldnt look as menacing as these gatling guns!
The faceplate is ofcourse from a Defiler, with the horns removed and an eye sculpted on it's forehead. This is the only GW bit on this model so far!
He has been undercoated and ready for some paint! I am finishing up the legs first, so expect to see a picture of it in the next few days.

Here is a grey knight I've been paiting last week.
The grey colour is pretty bright and therefore hard to get it to look right on a picture..
Anyway here are 2 pictures with different lighting. He looks better in real life..

The Grey Knight looks really nice, really like the grey and blue colour choice.

Lovely stuff as usual, man. The Rhino is amazing--the freehand on the door and also on the rooftop symbol (nice marble effect!) is unbelievable.
I love the alternate, non-metallic Grey Knight too, and I totally hear you about "looks better in real life"--taking photos of minis is really hard.

I love that your Grey Knight is actually, you know, grey, and not just silver. I liked their old color scheme much more than the current one.

Hey Guys! Haven't posted here anything in a long time. Got a little lost in several projects I started/ Finished.
Anyway here is a completely new one for you.
Little introduction for this one though . A friend from our gaming group is organising a 40K themed Deathrace this December for his birthday. So everyone who enters can make his own goofy 40k racer: Think Wacky Racers, Mariokart, Formula Dé Etc..
When he announced it we all came up with weird ideas for racers, and I blattered out that a Looted Back to the Future DeLorean would be really funny to make.
When I got my hands on 2 classic Ork Trukks I really started thinking about actually making it!
And here we are right now:
The classic Trukks:
Chopped the chassis up to make a new one:
And the actual ride:
And some more detail, I really like how the wiring and glyphs look on it.
Im really getting there, this is all W.I.P. ofcourse, needs more wiring, glyphs and orky tech stuff on the back like the original car has.
I really enjoy scratchbuilding orky stuff so far. If this is a succes I might start an Evil Sunz Waaagh and this car will be an Ork Buggy in regular 40k games.
More to come in the future!

Haha! Good to hear from you again. Now you just need to find a way to make strips of fire erupt from behind the tires
It's looking really cool so far, also personally I think a Waaagh! from you would look astounding!
