not exactly... I painted my shop orange just because I thought it will look cool, inviting and warm... it just happens to work well with the photos as well... I posted some pictures of it on this blog- I think it's about middle/ bottom bit of page 7.... oh and I am using the space wolves codex for these guys.

mayajid, the titan is a fitting massive death machine to support the rest of the Metal Beastmen.

Awesome army - great conversions and painting.

And extra marks for the presentation! Loved the Metal Beastmen advertisment you put together at the 'end' of the project... we knew you wouldn't stay away though!

Thanks for keeping the hobby fresh and exciting!

I’ve been playing around with a lot new lists and combinations (1750pts) and came up with some really fun stuff to do… as result I need to greatly expand my VERY limited arsenal of tanks (2 rhino and 2 speeders…) never really want or needed tanks till now….oh well…..

Razor(gor) backs

Essentially it’s the same set up as my rhino but 6 of them-

I am soooo glad I did this blog now more than ever, because I completely forgot what parts I used and what goes where on the rhino that I originally did ages ago…. So if any one is planning to do a heavily converted army- I highly recommend that they keep a Painting blog or an army diary of some sort somewhere- just incase you need to go back and do another something. It acts as a reasonably assembly instructions.

I will be using twin linked assault cannons on all of them- I just love the look of assault cannons (any type of multi- barreled Gatling/ Vulcan like guns). And in game- it’s mid-range but can take on most things including flyers…. Love them….

Even though I never really have any use for a land raider with my style of playing- I always want to make one for the metal beast. The thing is- I really don’t know what to do with it- I wanted a huge chariot pulled by some thing but a land raider opens from the front so that sort of clashes with each other…. Went thru many ideas, like having a stone horn from ogres and all the other creatures, and forming a sort of flight launcher deck on their front and sides and all that, but in the end I sort of came up with this-

The size is more or less the same as a land raider but just slightly taller…

Still not sure what kind of thing will be pulling this yet- but I’m probably going with this type of thing on both sides.

Not sure yet- still working on it…… to be continued

You should place the beasts that will pull the land raider on each side of the drop pod part, so you will keep an free place up front for the front hatch.
Anyway good work as always

Saw this in the Victoria news thread, i immediately thought of your project

Just a cross post here as to what Victoria Miniatures and AdeptiCon have cooked up for 2013.

Beast-Captain Torgo: AdeptiCon 2013 Sci-fi Model

Torgo is one of a line of genetic experiments known as Broolians, the product of an insane experiment by the mad geneticists of the planet Broolia. The so-called Broolian Beastmen first saw service as mercenaries in the service of several stellar empires and have now fought in countless warzones across the Orion-Cygnus Spur.

Beast-Captain Torgo insists on taking the same risks as his beast-brothers, and so is ever to be found at the forefront of the battle. He wields the same flame thrower he as carried since his earliest days of service, unwilling to take up a weapon others might think more suitable to the commander a successful and feared mercenary force. In battle, Torgo is as ferocious and savage as all his kin, eschewing subtlety as soon as the bullets start flying and the charge is called. Few can stand up to such a charge, for the Broolians of Beast-Captain Torgo fight not for wealth, but for the sheer, savage joy that was seeded in their bestial hearts by the insane geneticists of the planet Broolia.

Direct from Victoria Miniatures, Beast-Captain Torgo will be found lurking the swag bags of the first 2000 preregistered attendees with an AdeptiCon 2013 Weekend Badge! Bring a leash!

So the other day I picked this up from the shop -

and this is what It looks like when it’s finished!!!!!!!

Metal beast pattern Land raider-

The size of it is more or less exactly the same as a normal space marine land raider… It is how ever just around an inch (ish) taller (not including the horns- but that don’t really count any ways….)- so line of sight wise it’s all good… more or less…..

As you all would have notice there are no guns on the land raider… At first I was going to put guns on the tank itself but when I did it sort of ruin the lines and over all shape of the vehicle, so I opted for a different option. I combine the idea of large beastmen servo skulls (I did previously for my tech priest) and the tau gun drones that follow tanks around…..
I really like the idea of having a vehicle just for transport purposes only, and some drone-like servo skulls floating around the vehicle defending it.

Servo skull with twin-linked assault cannon, accompanied by small sevo skulls with frag assault launcher (left), and a servo skull with twin-linked heavy bolter (Right)

Servo skulls with hurican bolters

Servo skulls with twin linked Lascannon

Servo skulls with Flame storm cannon

I also did some small sero skulls optional equipment for the land raider….

I designed it so that they simply clip onto the main hull of the vehicle.

So with those- I can make

The Phobos pattern

The crusader pattern

And the redeemer pattern

With that it’s ready to rock!!!!

Thank you all for the comments!

If any one can help me on this it will be very much appreciated... What is the currency/ money in the 40k universe??? better yet what does it look like? I've been looking all over the place for this information but cant really find it any where... In necromunda- they use the standard sci fi "credits" (like is in card form???) and there are mentions of "Throne Gelt" or "Thrones" but no discription on what it looks like ... I know the imperium is so vast I doubt that there are one "type" of currency. I would love to know what eldar, orks, and all the other race use as well. any sort of description/ picture of them would be really cool.

The reason I ask is because I'm planning to do a Beastmen version of Leman Russ.... I figured the Primarch is sort of the pimp daddy of the chapter- so for metal beast mercenaries - the equivalent of that would be the PAY MASTER.... a guy in charge of all the cash coming in and paying the beastmen mercenaries when they come back from a job. I want to make him like the way they do it in Forgeworld- where the model is on a playing base and can also be put on a display base. In my mind- the pay master would be surrounded by piles or cases of cash, gold, credits, naked girls (beast girls?), with a cigar in his mouth, with either a spear or a sword on his back ( or both (haven't decided yet).... accompanying him would be two cyber boars (Freki & Geri).... I'm talking bad @$$- jabba the hut stylie....

but as I said I really don't know how to do the money/gold/cash/coin or what it actually is or looks like..... NEED HELP DESPERATELY PLEEASE.... If you know or know some one that may know- please let me know.....

Eldar i am fairly sure dont use money.
Orks use Teeth, that one is oblivious

Thrones is correct for the imperium, as far as what they look like, the change shape regularly and can be paper or coin or electronic, but all are the same value of what they represent.

Isn't there a 40k RPG? There would be money in that right (if it's like any other RPG). Maybe there's at least the glyph for it.

Post by: HAZZER

Teeth for orks,
Eldar are too concentrated on staying alive,
Dark Eldar could have pain tolkens(?) ,
For Imperium I'd go star wars, star treck stlye-ie credits (I think that there is some form of currency said in warriors of ultramar) But there would be other forms as well,
Chaos are too busy killing stuff,
Tau probally have some sought of clear iphone currency,
and thats about it.

Imperium- I think a kind of electronic credits has been mentioned
Tau- Kommies/Hippies. They would pay with hugs and friendship-cookies.
Eldar- Also Kommies/Space Hippies. They would either trick you into helping or pay in trade/services
Dark Eldar- Slaves probably, maybe booty
Chaos- Slaves, booty
Orks- teef, possibly booty

I would recommend many datapads strew about a desk and in stacks with streams of numbers and data on them for imperial funds - maybe even a large screen on the scenic part the base slots into that has several large transactions that are taking place that he is watching at the moment.

BTW, LOVE THE ARMY AND THE IDEA

I started my Beastmen Pay master (Primarch- leman russ…. Waiting for whenever the rules for him comes out….oh can’t wait!!!!!!)

The Idea behind him is to make him the pimpiest dude in the army… The best and most powerful fighter of the mercenaries but Doesn’t really do a lot of fighting because he doesn’t have to. Though if the Job calls for it- he’ll be able to take a whole army on his own…. If anyone watches the ANIME or read the manga- Fairy Tail- He’s the guild master. To be honest- I’ve always imagined the whole Metal beast mercenaries structure to be exactly like the fairy tail guild.

-A job request comes in Via the contacts (Ungrol, and or his pr teams) along with a deposit.

-The Paymaster ( primarch) sets and divide the Jobs into various difficulties- from Normal rank, to S-Class, to SS-Class. The harder the job- the more they will get paid upon completion.

-Then the request goes onto a “mission board”. Heroes, chapions, and or warlords with their army or battle force then select the Jobs that is going and does it. At times when there is a big job, or they just want to get a job done quick- 2 or more of them will “team up” putting their forces together to get the job done then split the pay.

-If for some reason the client does not pay- the paymaster will personally take care of it. This VERY rarely ever happens after the first few clients who did it and the word got about all galaxies saying what happened to them after….

If you have never seen or even heard of the anime fairy tail, and have no idea what I’m talking about- I apologies… But I recommend you watch it. It’s awesome!

Any hoo back to the Pay master….

With parts that goes on both sides (like this- knee pads, shoulder pads, arms, etc.) I tend to sculpt one then take a copy of it for the other side.

Base wise- I want it to be like what forgeworld did with primarch- a 40mm base for game play and a bigger base for display.

For yall who wants to make a cheap texture base for your miniatures this is what I usually do-

First I collect flat textured surfaces like the inside of a landraider, the ruin buildings that games workshop does, or any miniature companies that does terrains with texture floors. In this case, I’m using the inside of a valkyrie. I use insta mold to take the texture of it.

I then mixed up some green stuff, stuck it on a base, then pressed it into the mold.

After it dries, I trimmed the edges and you get this-

For the display base- I pressed some green stuff into the mold then started tiling….

so with arms and on the base with a BIG cigar!-

As I said I want him to be surrounded by money, or the payment that the metal beast has received from various clients-
NOTE- I SOOO APPRICIATE EVERY ONE THAT COMMENTED AND ADVISED ME ON THAT- THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH
-I started off with doing some imperial gold bars. (please ignore all the other stuff around it… I was teaching my girlfriend how to sculpt.)

Then I made copies of it

What’s the point of being the biggest bad @$$ without any chicks on a fur rug?

Some teeth….

I also wanted some gems or precious stones in a box or scatter about the floor and the way I got them was this-
Find some pens with clear colored plastic-

Just start cutting and trimming and you’ll end up with a bag full…

It’s great also for any fantasy treasure room diorama. This will go in the box next to the girls after all has been painted.

Bag o’ teeth!!!!!

The stacks of paper will eventually become piles of money when I start to paint it. And there will be more stuff like credit card like stuff and all that….

I’ve found this marker pen a while ago and has been playing around with it.

It gold chrome stuff really well- so wanting “pimp” up the paymaster and make him a bit “bling” I tried it out on what is supposed to be the yellow bits…..

It does look kind of cool- but I’m not too sure about it so I figured I stop painting him for now and throw this out into the modeling community. Should I use the gold or go back to the normal yellow color scheme…. Or what do you think I should do with it…. Any opinions, suggestions, and comments will be very much appreciated.

ps

the beastmen servo skull there will be armed with a Very small flamer and an ash try for the cigar.... It's the little things that make you smile aint it....

You are a master at what you do my friend.

The thing that strikes me as odd/out-of-place is the fact that the girls are so small when compared to the paymaster. I like the idea... but they hardly seem viable as playthings.

The rest of it, as absolutely brilliant. Bar none.

BTW, thanks for the basing idea. I can't sculpt for beans... but that... I can do.

i fell so put to shame...brillaint doesn´t cut it...

the servo skull just at the very end of that totally entertaining step by step to the recent work was amazing!

about that marker pen... i think it is highly educational of you to show us such musings... but as you asked us for some opinions... well... i would start testing it for real on some not too important mini first... mabye you can make a small statue? something for the treasure pile... finish that small piece completly in the aimed way you have in mind... when it tirns out the way you want it...then you can use that bling-tech to your paymaster... if all else fails... then make him in the usual scheme... one question tho... as your army is rather scruffy and roughy... will the paymaster be in a mint armor or weathered as the rest of the army?... i vote for the latter as it would look odd and out of place to have him mint and neat... after all i expect him to have clawed and "hoofed" his way up to the top...*bows*

I forgot to put this pic up-

just for size comparison....

Viktor von Domm- I know I should do it on something else first... but my curiosity got the better of me and I went all in.... I like the statue Idea though I'll think of something for that- thank you . I'm still not to sure about the weathered look on him either... true he fought his way to the top but at the same time- you you are at the top- you can afford and probably would get new shiny armor.... at least I would... If the gold thing works out then he'll be have a shiny and new armor- if not he'll have the same weathered armor as the others.

true about the girls- I guess they are just payment for the normal size beastmen, just incase the other mercenaries want that to be their currency of pay... on the other hand if the paymaster him self wants them- I would think they might be a one use only Item... lol....

Just my 2p so feel free to ignore.
The gold currently looks a little flat. A thin dark brown wash might help add some depth to the gold areas.

I have one army painted to minimum tabletop level (no shading) but the metals are still given an appropriate wash because I find its rare that unshaded metals look good.

Either way I think you will make him look awesome!

Just wow dude. Tbh I'd keep the gold as it shows off his "statius" and possably add yellow stripes or somthing. So you were saying about some sought of body guards and stuff they could have the same coulored stripes as well to show that only the best get them. This could make it the spot coulor as well.

On anouther note, what progarams do you use to make the GW style pics with lasers flying and the such? (like your LR pic).

Hope that all makes sence.

What would be cool would be if he had, instead of just a couple of mini ladies, would be if he had a couple from different species? I think a female Tau, or even something more bizarre would be cool, as it'd show how diverse and far reaching this guys influence is. Like in Ancient Egypt, the Harem of the King would include exotic people from all over the world (or the world as Egypt saw it) and it'd be cool if it was similar for your paymaster. Also, another why you could make him seem all powerful, would be a box of heads. It'd compliment the vast wealth he has; a warning to those who double cross him? Possibly heads of enemies to prove his men have got the job done to their clients? Plus, it's always be fun to taunt your opponents by having their forces heads in a box haha.

Also, having like a 'clawed fiend' skin rug on the floor, or a tyranid hive tyrant head lying amongst the piles of money would be super sweet!

HAZZER.

Also to empises your sculping work-

I used the all mighty photoshop for that....

Here's a little tutorial for what it's worth. I’ll try to go over more or less what I do from start to finish with the “realistic” photo….

So this-

From this-

Note: I’m a Bill Gates user so the hot keys might change if you are using a Steve Jobs.

After you have loaded up you photo in photoshop- select all (ctrl+A), Edit> copy, Edit> paste. So you will have another layer. I do this just incase I messed it up too much and I need to go back to the original…. Or just save it as another file… or both….
Then to make minor adjustments to the levels and color (color- depends on how good or bad the photo is…). I let photoshop do it for me simply click-

Image > adjustments > auto level (ctrl + shift + L)

Then

Image > adjustments > auto color (ctrl + shift + B)

Now you can adjust brightness and contrast by going to- Image > adjustments > brightness and contrast.

There’s no right and wrong with this- just do it until it looks right

Now, no matter how none colorful you paint your miniatures- for some reason it still always seems too colorful for the sort of 40k gritty look… so what I do is I go to - Image > adjustments > hue saturation (ctrl +U).

Then slide the saturation bar WAY down.

Now that we have the over feel

Let get into the details.

First I get rid of any of the bases that the models have. There are a couple of ways of doing this the two I usually use are-

Click on the polygon Lasso tool (L) then trace around the feet and base.

You can try to be neat but it’s not really all that important

Then click on any of the selection tool (lasso, marquee, or wand), move the selection on to a bit of the ground that does not have a base on it.

Now select the move tool (V), Hold ALT on the key board then drag the selection back to where it was originally.

Once you let go, deselect it (ctrl+D) and you should have a baseless (ish) miniature…

To get rid of the edges bit so it dosen’t look like we just edit and pasted it. we will be using the patch tool (J).

Make sure the patch tool is set to new selection and destination.

Now some where on the ground click and drag the tool selection a part of the image.

Still on the patch tool click and drag the selection onto the bits that looks out of place and continue doing so until it’s all covered.

The other way ( just incase there is not enough ground to select (other models in the way etc….)

Is this-

Start off by selecting a “good” part of the ground with the lasso-

Select the move tool, hold ALT, then drag the selection on to the parts of the base.

Let go, and then continue doing this until all the parts that you want covered are covered.

Now to use the “patch tool” as before to blend every thing in.

Once all the bases are all out we can move on to the fun part. Oh I cropped out some of the part of the image just to make it more pleasing to me….

FX!!!!!!!!

There are soooooooooooo many thing you can do with photoshop fx wise its amazing… I’ll just go thru 3 things for now and the rest you can just experiment and have fun with your self.

Smoke.

First go to google or yahoo and find a good smoke picture (one that suites the situation…) and preferably with a black back ground.

In this case I just want it for the foreground so I pick one, copy and paste it into the our picture in photo shop.

Using the eraser tool ( soft round brush) get rid of all the hard edges.

Now move and resize it to where you want it using the move tool.

Once you have done that- go to your “layer window”, and top left of that there should be a blending mode for that layer ( right now it should be set as normal). Click on that and select “screen”.

Now you should get this.

If you want the smoke to be lighter or more see thru just slide the opacity on that smoke layer down (next to the blending mode in the layer window).

You can do the same thing for gun and other type of smoke- just find the right smoke picture and place it on the guns.

SHOOTY STUFF!!!

Using the polygon lasso tool- select the path of the bullet or the laser that is coming out of the gun.

Click – Select > feather or select > modify > feather (depending on which version of photo shop you have. And feather it around 7 pixels then click OK.

Now hit ctrl+shift+N or Layer> new> layer and hit OK

Using the brush tool color in the selected area with the color you want the laser to be.

Then use the eraser tool to erase some parts of the beam so that it’s not so straight.

Now go to Layer > layer style> outer glow

From here you can play around with the color of glow, the size and the opacity of the glow… up to you really how much or how little you want.

I do the exact same thing for lights on buildings and glow of eyes.

Motion!!!!

First go to the layer where you have the main picture then use the lasso tool to select the back of the model and part of the back ground. Don’t have to be neat at all!

Now copy and paste it. Now go to Filter > blur > motion blur. Then turn the circly thing to the direction that you want. And set the distance…. Distance isn’t really all that important just the direction really…

Using the eraser tool erase some of the front part so that the main parts of the models that you want to be showing clearly shows. And also turn the opacity down to around 80 or less depending on how you want it.

Finishing touches

You really don’t have to do this part at all but I just prefer to do it. Personally I feel it adds a certain grittiness to the whole image and also hides imperfections.

Again go to google or yahoo and type in “old paper”. Take any one of them then copy and paste it on top of all the layers in photoshop.

Resize the paper image to cover the whole picture then go to the layer blending tool in the layer window then change from normal to overlay.

After you have done that turn down the opacity – go with what looks right to you.

Now go back to google and type in “screen lines”. copy a picture that looks something like this-

And paste it into photo shop over the old paper layer. Then I do the exactly the same thing as I did with the old paper thing-(resize, overlay, opacity (very low on this opacity)).

Now you should end up wit something like this-

Done!!!!!

Hope all that is useful to some one…..

They look really good

Just out of curiosity, is a Beastman Gor model larger then a Space Marine model?

Wow. This is your first blog? It's incredible. I can't believe GW stole your idea of putting Grimnar on a chariot!
