try awkward in the way when you first attempt to ask a girl out but have absolutely no idea how to talk to her and just stutter and mumble and sweat profusely
_Apollo_ wrote: So only the majority portion of the piece has to be made from the cookie container? Does that mean I can use some Popsicle sticks and what not?
yup... you can add everything... even GW bitz ... as long as a substantial mass of the cookie package material (inner and outer stuff whatever it is whatever you may call it...) is recognizable...!
Rogue wolves... define youngest...
Since I am second youngest according to the list i'm guessing its not age mate, cuz you would then all be ancient! Whahahaaa... and no, if we count membership you are also not the youngest...
But while on the subject... how old is everyone anyways...
There once was a kid from Near Boston
Who's on-liners and wierdness cost him.
He was a young whippersnapper,
With smarts in the crapper
and a frown on his face when Max tossed him.....
There once was this youngster from overseas
His remarks brought him up to his knees
In shyte gory and brown
They shovelled him down
And they then ignored all his pleas
The word Artistry should be something that rhymes with bucket....
"There once was a man from Nantucket...
He had for his rivets a bucket
How happy was he
rivet gun at his knee
With extra rivets falling out of his pocket"
"There once was a man from Nantucket...
He told the imperial guard to suck it
he said I cant serve you see,
I took a rivet to the knee
But the commissar told him to suck it
i know... i read the second update and i know there is already a third... hopefully i will be able to read it tomorrow... as now i will go to bed... i know i am lazy and i am owing you some comments on your fine minis you last updated still too
there once was a thread
(and a great one, you bet)
which was about a contest
between the Leaguers to test
their building and riveting skills.
But soon they discovered the thrils
of joking and kidding and rhyming.
The threads qual'ty was quicly climbing
and the riveters were having a great deal of fun
with poem, jest and pun!

gotta agree... while poetry sure has it´s value... a small update wont hurt...
AND...
remember that the finishing line to this contest is coming ever so closer... 5th of september mates... not the sixth or the seventh... no it is the fifth...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There once was a thread
were people were rhyming
....but that wasn't what the thread was about, so they stopped it.
lol
wait.... 4th of september? Oh, yeah, that's like... soon. I'll be done building the thing tomorrow, then It'll get some paint.
And I really have a problem: so far, the factory doesn't really look like a cookie factory.... how can I make it look like one? Put plenty of boxes full of cookies in front of it?? Help!
YES!!! that would be cool... and youo could make one of these boxes spill out some cookies too... just do them with small holepunched discs of cardboard or PC... and then add sprinkled sand on them for that extra tasty structure^^
well, what is there except putting cookies there... How can I modify the actual building to look like a cokie factory?
Oh and I wanted to put an unconcious/dead grot somwhere in the mud, lying in a puddle of vomit with half a cookie a few feet away from him.... y'know, ork kookiez aint nothin fer da weak!

A large sign that says "cookie Factory" in Ork...
well, thats where the packaging is gonna be used....
I need to get as much of this done tomorrow as possible - I've pulled some killer shifts at the hospital, and I don't know how much time I'll have over the next few weeks. Worked 70 hours last week, and that was the lightest of the next 3 D:
Would be absolutely gutted to get this far and not finish.
On a side note, has anyone had any luck painting cellophane yet? That's one of my next steps. And I'd love to hear what you think of the generator set-up so far!
The generator is great. cellophane will tend to bead up paint. tiniting it with ink like substances is possible but a pain. You might have to pick up some "plastic primer" from Valspar, or Krylon to paint it.
The cellophane is a pain in the butt, but I find that with something like latex paint (for walls) you can build up a nice primer layer. The problem is keeping it stick, as every touch will cause the paint to just crack and come off.
Amazing work here. Really impressed by the participation as well. Tough judging for sure, and some amazing new pieces on the tabletop for all who entered!
That said, I have to drop from this one and will likely skip the next couple. I have some IRL stuff to manage and there's no way I'd offer a proper entry at this point.
I'll still be on Dakka as much as possible and update my other stuff as I can. Dave's surprise package arrived today, it's amazing. Will post pics later.
@Dave - it's actually an expired vial of insulin and some plasticard tubing. Making the most of trash!
Cheers for the tips with the cellophane too - PVA seemed to work out fairly well for me!
@Skalk - That sucks, man, hope you can sort out whatever's going on as soon as possible - it's a damn shame that real life takes precedence sometimes.
I'm nearly done, but I'm working 13 and a half hour shifts this weekend, so here's hoping I can make the final few touches I need to. Good luck to all on the finish!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also! The deadline is September 4th - that's 23.59 GMT on September 4th, right?
and another one bytes the dust due to RL... bugger that... sorry to hear that maus... but i can feel your pain there...
about the tough choices... at monday i have a very long work day myself... so i will literally be able to see into your presentations not till the fifth... if there is not too much maoning... would it be ok to lenghthen the time till the 5th of september till modnight CET? actually i could do this without permission... as i am the regining tyrann for this competition
Not as finished as I would have liked, but I am pretty pleased, considering the time constraints. Kindly ignore the tin foil please - the sump is not quite set!
And a detail shot:
From what I can remember:
Box card -
Connects the girders supporting the fan
The bands on the generator
The pneumatic door to the silo
The slab of corrugated iron on the back of it
Plastic vacuum formed packaging -
The silo itself
Cellophane -
The tarpaulin over the entrance
Please click the picture - the photos are fairly massive, and you can zoom in and see my shoddy paint work.
The cellophane wrapper made the tarp and the bits of cloth hanging of the sruts either side of the genny.
The box was used in : the floor tiles - the supports - one side of the old battery compartment, and the detailing on the compartment, including the two cables on top - the rear end of the genny - the detailing above the battery compartment - bits of the rubble piles.
Wow nice work scarp and monkey, that's some tough competition =)
Whew didn't think I was going to make it. That extension saved me.
My piece is a small derelict factory that once produced an innovative biscuit flavour. Or was it just a front for some questionable experiments?
I am planning to add a fence around the back and other details, but I am happy to be judged on the piece as it is.
I hope this isn't too many pics =S
Automatically Appended Next Post: Hahah drcheese you called it
Done as I cAn be with this... The foil was killing for me... now with the lights fading here and my eyes tiring I must call this one done. There's millions more things I want(ed to do, but well... next one.
Anyways, shoot:
The foil ended up as an orange builders plastic. I figure if it keeps one dry, color doesn't matter. I just spraypainted the piece eventually after several ambitious tries to make something good of it. Now its just cracking paint, and so far it looks decent enough...
Thats this one for me guys... I know the 'floor' isn't exactly done, but thats because I haven't decided that yet on any of my terrain... and it has to all be the same. I'll show you why:
Yep, Modular!
Anyways... I loved the contest but hated the foil. looking at the competition I can only say I'm glad I'm no judge. Good luck all!
nice use of the foil two spartan, love the choice to go with yellow, had it been a different color I dont think I would like it as much.. nice work! and Mr.Merlin, I love this thing!
@airborneginger the wrapper is just cut out stuck on the building with pva. The weathering is a mix of a few experiments, plain agrax earthshade looked best, it took off the shine and adhered really well.
The sign above the door and the tidy sign both just have agrax straight over the wrapper.
MauS wrote: Yep, it even stuck for a while, until i tried to get some wrinkles in it, then it cracked.
eventually sticking it between two sticks of sprue as supports and then spraying turned the least ugly. It functions I guess...
When I tried applying PVA, it didn't work at all. It just kind of flowed off.
But I have some old and thick foundation paints from GW, they stick to everything.
The PVA did however work very well on the actual cookie container.
i haven´t really tried to avoid any decisions... that´s not my style...
what happened was that worklife has swallowed me whole and spit me out after it chewed me a good deal too much... i was so drained the last days that i was in no condition to follow my duties as the judge for this competition...for this i plead forgivingness of you all... i will now see through all the entries and then after a small (and hitherto unknown amount of time ) i will speak my judgement...
and yes... it will be a tough one...
just to be on the safe side...iirc
Scarper, monkeytroll, Two Spartan , MauS, MrMerlin
have shown their final works... tho i recall many more of you folks to be wanting to compete in this competition??? correct me if i am wrong here...
HAHAH just read the middle part of this thread that i missed, laughed at the
dr who naivety, confusion of status in the league, age debate and limerick war XD
I usually skip most of the text as there are so many minis and threads to see, can't believe what iv been missing =D
Looking at the pics I posted in this thread it seems that not every detail is visible.... but they're huge so you can zoom in quite a bit in the gallery....
as dave said... the winner is the next lord of the upcoming competition...which is already chosen....
but at first let me tell you that the decision was very hard to make... i even got my wife into the fold to decide as i needed some unbiased perspective to look at the entries...the ruling then was unison so i am quite strong about my decision nevertheless the touchness i had to tackle^^
all entries i really loved... it was the cremè de la cremè of scratchbuilding terrain to be seen for this competition... each entry had for me some very cool details or moody specials that i enjoyed immensely... but it boils down to this...there can only be one winner... and that lucky and sad person is :
Spoiler:
MrMerlin
for me the color composition, the slight hint to an italo western movie, the lil details like corckscrew smockestacks, the spilled cookies...all that was what made me choose this entry at last...
so... good luck MrMerlin... you will see sooner than you think how tough that judging will be
oh...and as for the price... due to my recent increase of work i have decided to start your price as a new sideproject of mine... was meant to be done already but i was hampered by life...but i will shortly start to build up a very unique terrain statue staring a rivetto hitherto never to be seen hope you are ok with that ?
and finally i have to thank you all for joining this competition... i had tremendously fun to watch your works shape up to those extremly good looking terrain pieces!...
at Mrmerlin.... well said ... yep everything was pure awesome... you will be in quite a deep mess soon enough to decide on your own... you got any good ideas already for season three?
Oh yes, I already have a few ideas brewing. Mostly things I've always wanted to do myself.... why not see what you come up with first? LOL
Oh and
Viktor von Domm wrote: the slight hint to an italo western movie
very well spotted!! Guess what one of my all time favourie movies is? The Good, the Bad and the Ugly! I have actually been watching scenes of it/ listening to its music while and in between sessions of building the factory.... maybe I should ad some graves and build a little mexican stand-off diorama? Devil Eyez vs Baldie LOL
and i loved listening to enrico morricone music when a was a kid... we had a cassette i played till its band ripped due overuseage^^...and i played with my playmobil cowboys all the while^^
Mostly things I've always wanted to do myself.... why not see what you come up with first?
...
that was why i had this very competition theme started
lol... nope... for my wife i am the perfect gentleman... it´s peeps like neighbors or the kids parents that my kids are figting with that i think i should be more social adequate with...
There is nothing wrong with being grumpy, it just means that people or things are stupid and they are pissing you off. Why should you change? They should learn to quit being stupid!

that is another sig worthy quote from you!!! if it werent such a long line i would totally print it on a T-shirt
Apologies for the absence - work has been pretty mad on my end! Seriously well done to everyone, all the entries were awesome. But a well deserved win, Mr. Merlin - the paintjob and the modelling just blew me away. Can't wait to see how everyone does with your new theme. Did Vik offer a Dave-level prize?
