this is some elaborate reverse-psychology, bluff/double-bluff gak going on here
I think I might want in on this... if there's still room for me. Just one quick question though, do the models have to be on bases? or can I just do a diorama type thing?

Cheers, Proto
either or is fine, preferably bases, you are welcome to join.
Allright then, I may have got excited and spent the last hour planning my entry.
This is a rough mockup of what I'm looking at doing. The idea being the Cultists have made these ruins their base camp, and are now being beset on all sides by some marines. All the Cultists except for the shooty one have been converted a little. I'll add bedrolls and loot etc later.
No updates from me. I'm on holiday! Still awaitng deliveries back home, need my heads and bodies... And everything! Hah. But at least for the next contest (vehicles?) I'll already have my rhinos!

Brilliant idea and nice little diorama/terrain piece to go with them

that is a nice dio ... also... extra points where it is concerned for by me as you use the classic CD as a base for that dio!!!
Marine_With_Heart wrote:I'll bring us back with some WIP shots
gotta agree... looks like is giving a hive five^^...but badass too
I'm glad you seem to like it thus far! And don't worry vik, the cd shall indeed be the base.
On to the progress: I'm really getting into this! Tonight I removed the Cultists from the bases and actually glued them together, then I added details to the ruins. An ammo box, a drum, a backpack, scrap, and the grave of a dead cultist (to show the brotherhood theme)
What do y'all think? Too cluttered? Not cluttered enough?

i like it... tho it is mildly heretical to use that ´munda backpack just for scenery
i like the base... .........but i think the actual front needs a bit of love too... maybe some bent out of shape i-beams of steel? for protection? the whole squad as is looks as if they are fighting their last stand in a corner... so a bit of frontal protection might be handy...
and... as i am currently planning a grave (yard) too on my own i am eager to see at least a primed version of that grave... is that hot glue for the grave hill? interesting... will you later on add sand and so on? maybe make it a fresh dug grave and have a shovel still stuck in...?

cheers, vik
Thanks Vik, the front of the dio will receive some nice rusty barricades for visual interest
As for sand, the whole base will get a lovely coating of it.
The grave is made out of one of the "fake dog vomit" you get in toy stores for cheap, cut up and used on bases it's good! Without being cut up you can use it for small craters. Do you want a pic?
As for the shovel, I love the idea, I'll get onto it presently
at panda silly me... and i am still a noob when orks are concerned^^
at prototype x
in my long life i´ve never encountered such a thing like dog vomit...lest a fake one^^ LOL... i know you can get poo as a joke... but fake vomit??? lol...
and yeah... pics please! if possible full bit and then the closeup of the grave!
Before I left this morning, I threw together some mockup barricades. I think this looks a heap better! Also thinking about having one of the Cultists leaping a barrier.
Vik: It's some really odd stuff, it's just rubber chunks by the feel of it, but it's nice and textured. Also, I got your close up of the grave.
the upper cultist... the atm look in the wrong direction... it makes littel sense... now with the totally cool looking jumper guy... i think the danger comes from the other side...!
fake voit looks cool (did i type that???) i bet it makes a great crater!
as for the grave... i like that you use a hatchdoor! very good idea!
as for the barricades... much better ideas than my first suggestion of I-beams!!!
oh...forgott to ask... what will happen to the middle hole of the CD? maybe you could add a hatch there too? to suggest a lower basement? like...as if the quartette is protecting/ guarding this entry?....
Automatically Appended Next Post: oh...and will there be an inscription to the tombstone? painted or are you able to carve it in???

Vik! You're a genius! I was having trouble with that hole! I even have the perfect piece to put there!
As for the tombstone I was thinking of freehanding some words. I might carve though, we'll see when I get home
So, I'm hoping to finish up my Meganobz for this round:
Hopefully the fact that they have been "in progress" off and on since Feb 2011 isn't a disqualifying factor
Da Marinez - Codename: Light'ning and Codename: Thunda'amma
Da Heroz - Codename: Predatork and Codename: Warmachine
Finally I have some progress to show, albeit not a lot. They're all built, and if the weather cooperates I should get them primed and make a start on painting this week.
Here's the group shot, followed by individual shots in the spoiler tag.
Well, I've finally dragged my sorry hide to the store to buy a new paintbrush and another pot of gold (took lots of rainbow following, *ba-dum tss*), so hopefully I'll start work soon.
Viktor von Domm wrote: hurhurhur... do you really come by with just one brush??? i have a plethora of brushes... and i could buy me even more... if i had enough coins^^
Well no, I tend to use three or four- a big fat one for basecoating/big things, standard brush for, well, standard stuff, detail for the detail, and fine detail for the fine detail, but I'd lost my detail brush (If you saw my desk, you'd understand )
I literally have piles of random gubbinz- I'm fairly sure there's half a chocolate bar and possibly a book I was halfway through in there somewhere, too...
Why is everyone brining out display boards for their minis? I don't like having to compete with those, they always make the minis and things look even more awesme...
TheFatElf wrote: Seconded on both accounts, must we include a display base?
And I've gotten no further either, damn you Space Marine project!
Thirded
Actually, from what I can tell, the rules only say "basing" is mandatory, so I'm guessing that can just be each model's actual base, and any extension thereof is optional?
Casey's Law wrote: A little late but I'm considering entering this round if i can keep up my pace. Was there a cut off on entry?
There is no cut off entry, Panda will be more than welcome to have more contestants... the end of the contest is the 30th of May if I remember correctly.
The Justicar, first of all - Majority of the conversion work here is the hands and left arm. Switching for classic gk sword, loading out a SB. Test of whether the build design would work. Has been slightly tweaked from the original design, some brass on shoulders etc.
Brother (Shepherd?) Book - I really don't know where these awesome books and scrolls originated, but these guys seemed perfect for them. Added some etched brass as a bookmark etc.
Classic GK - New arm/hand and gs cloak added so that he fits the brotherhood aesthetic. Again, it's about combining variety with cohesion.
Warder - A much more elaborate conversion, although not necessarily obviously so: it's the TLC sword brother. Major gs cloak reconstruction occurred here, and I'm very pleased that you can't tell (I don't think). Also, he bridges the BT figs with the "real" GKs nicely, I think.
Hammerer(erererer) Speaking of bridging designs, this is an all-plastic build (apart from the =I= on his hood), though aiming for the more BT end. And hey, if BT sword brethren can have TLC, mine can have a hammer.
More beards! Far and away the simplest conversion, hand swaps and brass etch again; possibly my fave pose.
Not Ezekiel... Lots of fun here. I think he really fits with the others, especially with that honking great scibor daemon head.
Another very DA build: I love the metal gk sword on this guy, it really ties the pose together. He, again, has been reposed from the original build; like all of the not-BTs, has had waist chain added, for instance.
Big gun! I do love the sheer ridiculousness of this. Big gun, big scroll, all kinds of death.
And what would a brotherhood be without a brotherhood banner? Of course, you can't take brotherhood banners with Interceptors, I hear you cry. Tough. They're a brotherhood, they get a banner. And added so he's particularly useful. I am in two minds about this pose. The balance and weight of it are right, with him striking the banner down, the incinerator at hand, foot climbing upon rock - but arguably, he looks like he's toppling. Hmm.
Anyway, that's where we are so far. Red for our Carnelian cloaks, white for brotherhood tabards, and then on to all the tricky details!
Started work on the last member (and Leader) of my Brotherhood I imagine him giving it the old "Dreadaxe thirsts for you" routine
I'm going to carry on with my scenic base for the unit hopefully it will distract from the half arsed painting on the actually miniatures plus it's over half done now bar aload of weathering.....
2 more mock-ups of squad members, normal guy and an apothecary/banner bearer (yes I know CSMs don't have rules for Apothecaries, gamewise he's carrying a banner of excess so feel no pain anyway )
Sorry for pic quality
Wow, the work on here is great. I'm hoping to find some inspiration at Salute this weekend, otherwise I still have nothing to submit in this competition...
Just another WIP if anyones interested. They are now all part of the Blue Mans Group :p
Spoilers are because I took these images on my phone cam because its all I had at the time and they are a bit elongated... making it a very long post if I didnt do the spoilers
Sorry if it's been asked already, but would it be okay if the squad is magnetized and i put them on one big scenic base?
Also, does it have to be a legal unit?
Thanks and good luck everyone!

Yes, it would be okay, and yes to the scenic base question. It doesn't have to be a legal unit, just a unit that shows some sort of inter-unit bond.
I guess there's no harm in showing off my current progress! In the end I am to finish all these guys, as well as two more plasma-dudes (or bolter dudes, depending on whether my bolters will arrive) The finished squad size will range from 3-5. Here're some pictures!
Squad Leader (denoted by topknot)
Plasma-man #1

Spoiler:
Comments/Critique will be nice. More pictures on my tumblr, in the link below! Cheers.
at know no pear... tell us your secret... how you rob banks and by cool FW stuff and get away with it ... man there is a fortune in bitz lying there on your desk...

also the washed look is really cool!
No one's supposed to know! Shhh! Well I've been collecting stuff to paint for a couple of years now, and while I wouldn't call my bitz collection large, it certainly is enough to build cool stuff! Anything that I need or want, I save up for like a week to buy

Well, I don't have THAT much spare cash to spend! I like having bitz so I can kitbash if an idea comes to head. Right now though, completing my current army takes precedence. Good thing the squad I'm doing for this compy is part of the army! : )
Im a little stuck on how to paint the Sergeants sword... What colour sword would work with all the blue armour and dark bases or should I just stick with boring silver XD

Purple, Green, and Red are left. Can do an Orange to.
I only have one miniature to paint up to finish my entery but I've been side tracked helping my kids paint up two SM armies I scored dirt cheap on ebay. Still I have until the end of May to paint one CSM I think I can manage that..........

Tau are too awesome dude. Don't know why I always think of Tau as shiny and new, now I have to go repaint my sons Tau all weathered and dirty, because they look so awesome.

Right, so I've managed to get most of the bits I need today fro free from my GW as it was their Birthday and had a 'store bits box' for that one day were everyone brings in some bits puts it in and takes some out. Not always nessairly fair but after I said I needed pre-hersey elements for my army everyone was helping me look for some. I went in with 4 old school backpacks, 3 old school bolters and knifes and left with over a handful of bits and some random ork figs (witch I will use for some guys taking them out on their base).
Naw, daemons give me the creeps. Gonna be part of my guard allies for my next SM army. The guard will be a battery designated "Fire Base Anna". These boys will be snipers/spotters.
40kFSU wrote: Naw, daemons give me the creeps. Gonna be part of my guard allies for my next SM army. The guard will be a battery designated "Fire Base Anna". These boys will be snipers/spotters.
I did some more work on the base. Kinda a city ruins thing. Checked my bits box before buying a new kit and found I had enough Cadians to do what I want. So I switched, no Catachans. Going to be Cadian CCS with Master of Ordinance.
I havint really touched my models since my last updates XD I was distracted by my Chosen from the DV set O.O Red is such a pretty colour to paint after painting blue marines for so many years...

Paint them YELLOW - you will drool when you can paint a solid yellow.
well, I seem to have lost my banner bearer's banner-holding arm... I have his banner and the rest of his body, just not the arm.
And I can't find a replacement for the shoulder pad, what with him being a paladin. *argh*
Well I'm done so without further a do I give you the Brotherhood of Spite My entry to the competition. Chaos cultists of Malice (Malal) orginised in their sacred number of 11 and led by a chaos champion, Hezron Kaard, with his Dreadaxe.
at losterikson... wow... what a loony bunch!... very cool looking... but why is that poor sods face all yellow since he got his head chopped off by that marine?
Viktor von Domm wrote: at losterikson... wow... what a loony bunch!... very cool looking... but why is that poor sods face all yellow since he got his head chopped off by that marine?
Jaundice
Actually it was painted with old citadel bronzed flesh it doesn't look that yellow in the flesh guess it's something to do with my camera and the lighting.
Slowly coming along. Its the new bunker from the trench thing. My question is why would an imperial bunker, presumably manned by imperial troops, stack dead imperial bodies , skeletons, and equipment all over the place? From a hygiene position alone I would have to object. Why not Orks or Tyranids or such? Anyway.....
Looks great mate! Actually raises a good question, too: do finals need to be a composite image, or can they be separate shots (say, contained in a spoiler block)?
Ok, here we are. One shot of the command squad and 1 staged up.
[i]After a hard fight, the company and its command squad consolidates on the rebel defenses. As the medic tends to the wounded, the commander and Master of Ordinance discuss the fire plan for the upcoming offensive.
The brotherhood shimmered into the heart of the ruin, only to be faced with desolation and desecration. A high, thin whine, a muffled, strangulated cry and the wet, warm spray of arterial blood - and then only the stamp of ceramite boots on gravel, the snap of colours in an alien breeze, the dwindling hum of teleporters.
The Just, senior among the Carnelians present, spoke.
"Secure the position. Purge the guilty. Burn the corpses."
The Hunter, The Headsman, The Slayer bore their grisly trophies.
The Herald, first to the fray, proclaimed their devotion to His name.
The Hammer prepared the path before them, the Warden steadied the ground beneath them.
The Word spoke forth the litany, whilst the Bearer held aloft the banner of the Frateris Gladii Equites Carneliensis, Brotherhood of the Sword of the Knights Carnelian, the Grey Knight order devoted exclusively to hunting those Astartes who have violated their most sacred oaths to embrace the anathema.
And the Spotter, oldest and wisest, of them all, saw the truth of the carnage and began to speak...
As the Sneaky Git allowed himself a toothy smile, and released his chambered round.
So, here they are: The brotherhood of the sword:
And a reverse view:

And the rest! The Headsman:
The Just
The Hammer:

The Slayer (with the Standard in the background)
The Hunter:
The Bearer - a Grot's eye view of the action!

And one very Sneaky Git!
Really enjoyed doing this, if for no other reason that it means I've nearly finished my GKs as a result! Thanks again to cormadepanda for running this and can't wait to see what other folk come up with!

@cormade/papa - just out of interest, the next contest is troop transport, right?
Thanks man, really appreciate it! Can't beat a bit of fluff. I have realised there's no clear shot of The Herald, the classic metal justicar, but he's in a lot of other shots (maybe he should be The Photobomber instead ? ) so I'll let that slide I guess. Aside from a ton of conversion work and general gsing I tried to work outside of my comfort zone with things like gs cloaks, darktone and varnish progression, heavier osl all round, blood spray on the angel of ecstasy, etc. I'm glad it's paid off!
Hey the next competion Is a secrete.
Jk you havr the idea a transport is there but not the whole deal
@40k my oops the dispksy made me think wip shots.
Eveyone ekse thanks for the words it looks epic. Also I haven't seen papa in many weeks... this May just become panda comps... who knows
Ive decided to atleast have a go at a base... the downed marine int he corner will be given a coupleof more chaos friendly parts and different paint so he doesnt look like a loyalist XD This is my first time creating some sort of mini diorama base...
PRIME THEM ALL IN DA MORNING. Everyone... time is running out 16 days... i know.. you forgot you had projects.. hahahahaha. Slowly you foolish miniaturists will fall to my whims. Not really though
