Mats are shipped in cardboard boxes. Each mat inside is also packed in a fabric bag.

Some positions do not have mousepad material option available. That's because those designs are our most recent releases and we are still working to launch them as mousepad versions. Preliminary it should happen on Autumn.

Prices depend on mat size and are available while viewing each product separately.

Shipping to US takes around 2-4 weeks depending where you are at.

I'd really like to see another company make a mat for DZC. The F.A.T. mat is okay, but it's pretty static and only comes in 4x4.

Having another mat option would allow for some different city layouts. A ruined cityscape in 10mm scale would be awesome.

If anyone else can throw up examples of bad handling from this company then sure, but from my understanding it isn't systemic. The TLDR - customer receives a mat which is discoloured, Deep Cut offer a refund, ask for the mat to be shipped back at cost to the customer without being aware that they should cover that under EU law. It could have been handled better, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that it was just one lapse which will be presumably dealt with outside of Dakka to spite any further frothing over it. =P

I received a mat damaged in shipping from them.
They offered a partial refund or to have me return the mat (my shipping cost) for a replacement.
I took the refund and was happy with the resolution.
The mat was 95% fixable.

Would and have ordered from them again.

It's not "any particular EU law". If you're a company that relies on sending stuff to customers, than knowing a law that focuses on sending out faulty wares isn't "any" law. It's basic knowledge.

I can only share my own experience, but I ordered nearly £2000 of mats from Deepcut to fulfil my Kickstarter. Service was top notch, and I will happily spend that kind of money with them again if I ever do anything similar in the future.

I never received any negative feedback on the quality of the mats.

I'll be placing an order in the near future to check out the quality of the mousemat stuff.

Obviously there was an issue in the above linked thread. My experiences have been very different.

Exactly.

The problem is that they did not distance themselves emotionally - and took the customer's complaints as an attack.

Nor is it the only time - up above Plastic Trees was satisfied - but the company did exactly the same thing in regards to wanting to reverse the shipping.

Nor is it just an EU law - it is pretty much the case in most countries. Canada, the US, and the EU.

And kind of an important law for any company dealing with mail order to know. I have had a company try to do the same to me - and even after they were informed as to the law they tried to shift the costs. (Threat of legal action was enough in that case.)

Wow! This is deeply disappointing to see. I was planning on ordering two or three of these mousepad matts from DCS but now I'm reluctant to do so. I'm bothered not so much by the issues of shipping costs (although I agree the company is in the wrong there) but the issue of product QC makes me question whether I can count on even recieving a usable product.

All sales on our website are handled by PayPal and their buyer and seller protection programs and our policy is no lesser than that. We do not invent new regulations or terms and we do not modify existing ones. In fact we strongly suggest solving every case via PayPal.

As for a posted link – a customer opened a case and PayPal ruled out in the same way, as was our initial offer – full refund after confirmation that the item is delivered back to us. It was customer initiative and PayPal decision. Still that looks like a good opportunity for a couple of people to stir the water and talk about how better are other manufacturers products. The same manufacturer to whom we became direct competition after we started selling our designs as mousepad options. But I should probably write it off as coincidence.

Just the fact you remain so incredibly full of it even with this blowing up in your face is more than enough for me to make sure to get the word out via stores, club, tourneys etc never, ever to do business with your company. Can't imagine I'm the only one either.
This sort of crappy behaviour should incur more negative consequences than it seems to usually do - but you're nicely digging a deeper hole for yourself. Keep going. Seriously. Broadcast far and wide how repugnant your day to day business practices apparently are.
I sincerely hope it costs you enough of a fethtonne of business for you to really feel it.

Paypal handles the money in the transaction. Not more, not less. DeepCut Studios are the retailer and thus bound by any law related to (international) trading. PayPal has no legal authority on anything related to returning faulty goods, they are a private company. PayPal can surely side with the culprit, but right now, DeepCut Studios needs to follow the law and replace the item or the money spent on it at no fees including (!) shipping etc.. The fact that a company willingly ruins its popularity for a few bucks despite being clear-cut wrong on this matter is both amazingly short-sighted and sad.

From what little I have seen of this company I wouldn't buy anything from them. Too much good choice with good products out there for me to risk it with people with bad customer service.

I had absolutely no problems with the first mat I ordered from Deep Cut - in fact, they responded to feedback on here and offered it without a logo, which is what got me to buy it.

I've been more and more wanting to move to all mousepad mats, so when they offered that I immediately ordered. They replied to my email asking about the status within just a few hours today, giving me a tracking number showing that the mat is in New York.

I'll update with pictures when I receive it, but so far (and with my prior order) the process has been very smooth. Just wanted to share that... I know how a company handles the bad situations is going to be the main focus (and maybe rightfully so in some ways), but I think most people have not had a problem dealing with Deep Cut - this was the first issue I had heard of.

That's when the true colours show. Besides that, I'm probably not the only one here who makes a conscious effort to avoid dealing with this sort of rotten little scheisters (and persuade others to follow suit). A free market works best if more consumers make a conscious effort to punish bad behaviour, such as from Deep Cut Studios.

I've bought several playmats from DCS before. One of them had an issue and they sent me a new one for free. So it's really weird to hear they wouldn't replace the other guy's mat.

Yeah, once the return shipping cost became an issue you'd think it would have been easier for DCS to just ask that the mat be destroyed or let him keep it rather than make a mountain out of a mole hill. The cost of the negative PR likely exceeds the cost of a mat and thats not even counting the opportunity cost incurred from fighting over a pittance rather than providing superior customer service that earns positive word of mouth advertising.

At this point, it's probably for the best if we leave the customer service discussion to the thread in Dakka Discussions, rather than having the same conversation going on in both.

Eagerly waiting the conversion of your Urban Wasteland theme mat to mouse mat style. Have ordered several mats from you guys before and one of the reasons is because you have the most anf the best designs out there!

I'm wondering if that urban wasteland mat might do for a fantasy setting at all? It doesn't look like it has any obtuse modern details, rather its mostly just rubble with the odd pipe. I'd be interested in seeing what that particular mat looks like with that material, as I'm looking to replace the PVC desert one which I have already (the design's fine, the material however is a bit naff in that I need to tape the thing down to the table otherwise it curls up which is a pain).

Wyrmalla, with PVC style mats, if you roll them up image facing out the way, you lose the curl issue. The image wants to curl down, and can't because the table is in the way. I store my PVC stuff in poster tubes, image out the way, and don't have that issue anymore.

In the end:
- solutions were found outside standard and formal procedures
- customer received a full refund without having to return the item back
- questionable mats were removed from sales for thorough investigation
- apologies were expressed

My Plains and Darkwater mousepad mats arrived here in Japan within a week of ordering. The mats look great. I'm really glad I waited to get them in this material, as I greatly prefer it to my Zuzzy silicone and Hotz felt mats. When you look at them up close the pattern of the fabric is visible, but this slight texture only enhances the look in my opinion:

Most of the trees are from Miniature Building Authority. A couple of the larger ones I got off eBay, but I can't remember the name of the store. I have an aversion to wire and sponge trees, so I got these resin ones instead.

My supernova mat had an issue (some lines on it) although another user posted that theirs was fantastic. I was going to order another swamp mat anyway so Deep Cut is going to replace it when they send the swamp mat. Will post pics of the before and after, I think there have just been some teething issues with scaling up / meeting demand, but their communication has been excellent. Himajin's mat looks great!

The replacement Supernova mat came in, and looks great. Even more than that, swamp mat is just incredible - really love it! Very satisfied with Deep Cut - it would've been better to have no issue, but they resolved it extremely promptly and totally corrected it. Great result!!

Sorry it took so long RiTides, I've a memory of a goldfish! The fold down the middle is where I had it folded to go out gaming, I usually have it rolled in a tube (didn't have enough hands haha!) so it doesn't normally have any folds. It doesn't come with a tube but I highly recommend getting one for it so you don't have to keep on ironing it. I also wouldn't go larger then a 3x3 as unless you pin the corners to hold it tight it may fold during play. Other then that it's a lovely mat!

Might actually help if I post the picture!

Just FYI- if anyone has any fishing rod tubes going spare, you can use those to store your mats in. Obviously you'd need to check the diameter on them if you're using the mousepad material ones.

I ask as the Mat'O'War mats drove me up the wall - tried steam ironing, piles of heavy books and stretching, even an industrial steamer through a laundry service lol. In fact, who ever designed those mats should patent the new technology of a material that maintains its creases in all environments.

Ended up burning the fething thing on a bonfire, and felt damned good doing it too!

I purchased a mat today as a paypal guest, because I wanted to just use my debit card. I realized after the purchase I don't have access to the email account, yahoo is looking into it, because I can't reset the PW online, and right now we can't figure out what the password is.

I put the correct mailing address in, when I ordered it, but just don't have a means of tracking this. Do I have anything to worry about, or should I just wait until the mat arrives?

What would you fellow Dakkaites do in this situation? Thanks!

No, PVC would be the vinyl/ banner type material.

They don't seem to be offering the mouse pad material anymore as far as I can tell. I have their Swamp theme in that material and it's a great mat, probably the best green space type mat I've found, but that option isn't available on their site anymore...

The Snow map I just ordered is mouse pad material... I gave it a look and some products have mouse pad material, some only have pvc or cloth. I'm very grateful they had mine in mousepad!

Mousepad Material is the type I'm most interested in.

Upsetting because I really wanted a 3x3 and a 4x4 space hulk in mousepad material and was waiting on ordering the 3x3 swamp till I could get all three at once. Looks like I won't be getting any of them now :(

They only recently started offering it, so it's probably worth contacting them to see if it's still an option for the mays you wanted. The two mats I've bought of theirs are great, I'd certainly recommend theit designs

Just a shame they are struggling to keep up with demand from their stockists. I've been waiting since December 28th for my order through Dark Sphere games and was told they are 6 weeks behind with manufacturing existing orders.

Well the mats I ordered finally arrived after seven weeks and I am certainly disappointed, one mat did not come with a storage bag and the other does not come close to matching the image on their website.

I will be contacting both dark sphere and deepcut regardless but needless to say I don't think I will be purchasing any further products from them.

Out of interest, which mat did you order where the art did not seem to match up with the image? Our club is going to be ordering a half dozen Deep Cut mats very soon and it sounds like we might want to avoid that one..

Yeah I was trying to get to their miniatures section and got an error message. Sorry if it's been covered but are there still minis on sale as well as mats?

To sum up some observations:
- miniatures are no longer available on our website
- we returned mousepad mas back to public on the end of January. So yes, all preorders placed on December had to wait
- we also received some feedback that the bags damaged the mats (corners got bent while inserting the mats, etc.) and discarded them. We will have special carry bags for mats in a few weeks though
- all quality issues have been / are / will be solved until not a single customer is left unhappy
- our office was closed for vacation for a couple of weeks, so yes, some replies were delayed

About time someone did "tiles". Many of my maps are tiles placed on 1footx1foot sticky tiles from home Lowes.

Though questions..

1. Can we see a picture of a map put together with this set? Looks nice, but I want a real picture of it.
2. Plans to do these with city underneath, so you can, well make a city?
3. What about ruined roads and a wasteland backround or post apoc games?

What we need is a sci-fi road on 6" wide tiles.

I got my mat in over the weekend. It's fantastic. The carrying case is a bit cheaply made and it was packaged in a way that more or less ruined the zipper though. Otherwise the mat itself is fantastic!

Ugh, I just ordered two carry bags...

Mine came through fine, but weird that they fold up the carry case rather than just ship the mat inside it!

@Deepcut - If it helps.. what I think happened to the zipper.. The carry bag was wrapped around the cardboard and it was shipped international. I think it likely got pressed between things causing a very notable kink in the zipper that causes the slider to snag when you try to zip it. The teeth at the kink were pressed enough that the fabric on both sides looks stretched creating a gap to boot..

Deepcut have some amazing quality mats.
I was let down by their customercare department when I bought my second mat from them...

I ordered a 3x3 mat online.
Then though I would prefer a 4x4 so I contacted them on Facebook asking if I could upgrade to 4x4 and was told I could.
Two days later they shipped the 3x3... they forgot to tell the shipping department or something.
When I asked what's happening?? I wanted a 4x4 they told me I'd have to pay for return shipping and more shipping to change to a 4x4...
Pretty gakky after they told me I could upgrade...

Hey at least you got a mat! Our club placed a sizable order through our FLGS eight weeks ago..

They do always ask for shipping on returns.
I've had one mat arrived damaged and I opted for a partial refund as I was able to repair it to 90% perfect.
Would definitely recommend them regardless.

My understanding is we are intitled to return a item for a full refund if you decide you don't want it, it's not fit for purpose (/defective.)

Asking a unhappy customers for more money to fix problems is how you loose custom.
For example
I'm less likely to buy from them again and I'm posting here my negative experiences, which has a knock on effect and costs them future sales.


I'm unsure if I'll deal with them again.
Their mats have great texture and designs.
But.
I'd recommend people buy/order their stuff locally through FLGs so that the store acts as a buffer to their shoddy customer care.

Nobody does. I've had to bully sellers from the UK and from Ukraine just the same when product needed replacing. I can be done, of course, once you demonstrate that you know how to enforce your rights across international borders.

I have found Deep Cut to be good to work with - when I had a defective mat I was able to place another order to help them ship a replacement. I hope to post up some pictures of the mats I have from them later in the summer, with a good comparison to other mousepad mats

There are benefits to different types, but Deep Cut definitely has the best selection and will even do custom work. One of the mats I just got from them was a custom mat with Guild Ball lines added. I need to roughen up the lines a bit to make them look more "natural", but overall I'm quite pleased!

Well, the fact that they didn't offer to replace the messed up case does effect my opinion of them. Hearing other negative things does as well. I will say my mat was shipped at the speed promised and the quality is exactly what I was looking for.
That said, I ordered the specific pattern I did because there are no companies in the US producing that particular theme as I was looking for something akin to the planet surface in the most recent Doom game. For pretty much everything else I plan on buying from an American company.

Couple of words to the above:
- bag shipping issue noted and taken into account
- replacements for damaged items - sure, if someones prefers the replacement. Partial / full refund is just another option that may or may not be acceptable. And yes, PayPal cases are encouraged.

Just got my mat! Well, it actually came on Friday, but I was out camping all long weekend. I'll try and get some pics up for anyone interested, but it is exactly as pictured. Ordered the Nebula space mat in 4x6 in mouse pad type. Beautiful print on top, solid rubbery backing, some small wavyness left over from being rolled in shipping, but otherwise rolls out perfectly flat. Logo in the bottom right is small and out of the way. The whole thing looks awesome, and I look forward to testing it out this week during a BFG match.

The carrying case is what it is, nothing terribly exciting. If I have one minor gripe, its that the carrying case fits too perfectly. You have to take the extra time to roll up the mat fairly tight and lined up pretty perfectly to squeeze it in.

Plus, 2 weeks from clicking order to showing up on my front porch from halfway around the world is nothing to sneeze at. All in all, great product and solid service. Definitely will order from again in the future.

That is fantastic! My only criticism of the custom "medieval football" mat I had gotten from you before these were offered was that the lines were a little too stark against the background. Perfect, that's a style I was looking around for a while - a plain concrete effect for Infinity etc.

Yep, this is absolutely perfect for that game. Minimal, but realistic. No designs or images set that would look out of place if you put a building or something else over the top of it. Having it plain allows people to put whatever they like on top, and have it not be over-shadowed by anything on the map itself.

I had this idea that it would be really cool for a company to sell small 2'x2' "dungeon mats" with pre-designed dungeon sections (caves, taverns, etc.) - allowing people to buy several, rotate them and connect them in various ways.

I don't know if they could get enough traction, but I think it'd be slick (even better if they were double-sided allowing for numerous options).

there was just a Kickstarter for that. I don’t think it took hold because the corners were all round and the edges didn’t line up with the drawings on the other “boards”

Fantastic - was wondering how soon companies would jump on that scale. I'm not interested in city-scapes, but I do hope some other 6mm-scaled patterns will show up at some point. It looks superb as usual for Deep Cut stuff.

I recently got 3 DCS mousepad mats!

Wild West is absolutely beautiful, bright and crisp, fairly scale neutral, probably the best desert mat out there (others I've seen tend to look like a close up of a stucco wall rather than sand).

Waterworld is nice, a fine print, just a bit too dark maybe, also scale neutral.

Cave is very disappointing and I would not recommend it to anyone. It's dark, with low contrast detail that is further obscured because it is a similar color to the physical weave of the fabric, and in typical game room lighting it looks like a washed out, plain black cloth.

Received my Wasteland V2 and Northland 6'x4' mats, and damn they're gorgeous. The thing I like about them most is they don't have much shadowing on their graphics, which can look out of place when you put items on top of them. They're both really detailed and look good on the table top. I hope to get a lot of good use out of them. I'll likely base most of my armies to get use out of the Wasteland map, and keep the Northland one for fantasy.

I am kind of bummed that Steppe V2 came out after I ordered, as that looks damn nice as well, but I might save that plus look at either a forest or swamp map next. I have a 4'x4' Gotham mat to use for Infinity/Necromunda or games of that size, and that's a nice one as well. Dark, but holds the feeling I wanted for that kind of map well.

You can do this already with their custom mat tools, but I'm also waiting for an AI compatible map.

Yep, my friend has ordered a mat from Deep Cut before and she had some text removed from one of their sci-fi mats, etc. They do offer a complete custom option (you can even upload your own image). Obviously that'll jump the price significantly, but they do offer overlays for any mat you want, hexes, squares, etc.

They can often remove elements of the graphic image as well, etc. Just gotta email them.

Those fantasy houses look pretty great. I'd still love if there was an option to get your terrain as unpainted but slightly cheaper. I like to paint my own stuff, and I'd imagine prepainting adds to the costs quite a bit.
