I think that's one of the major problems for me. I really like those guys you're doing, I like the Dark Elf-looking faction, I like the Trollbloods, I like the Wolfen-looking guys... and the Ogre mercenaries and others look sweet as well.

I've got the 2-player starter box somewhere, actually. No idea where, though. I should look for it.

I'm in much the same boat Azazelx. I like stuff from just about every faction, and have just been picking up figures to paint over the last few years, and ended up with actually viable forces for a few of them were I ever to use them in an actual game of Warmachine. Some day.... some... day....

Yesterday I felt like taking a break from Privateer figures. So I dipped in to my box of stuff to work on nearby, pulled out a half dozen models, and started working. Here are the results.

First up, I finally finished off these kobolds of mine that I've had for way too long. At one point they were giving me a lot of trouble- they were too small, I couldn't decide on a paint scheme... I don't know what the deal was. They're done now though. I also started working on the Mind Flayer Bones guy that came out around the same time. He'll be done by Monday, especially with vacation starting.

Nearby were a few undead Bones figures, so I figured they'd be a quick set to paint. The specter/ boss thing needs to be finished still. Might paint a few more skeletons this weekend just because they're so fast and easy to paint.

Then I started something REALLY different. Behold!

An old Warzone Cybertronic Attila! Why in the world is he so big? Why does he have metal bolted on to his giant face? I don't know!

His face looks crappy. Not sure if it's due to too much primer, soft details, general ugliness... the rest of him looks decent. Not sure what I was channeling for that paint scheme. Bubblegum Crisis perhaps?

Last up is a Troll Outpost Fimir- inspired "Swamp Warrior" I believe.

TOTALLY a Fimir though.

Wow, I don't think I've seen a Fimir figure in like, 20 years or something. Totally forgot about those guys. And you even painted a new Warzone figure! I thought you had finished all of them. I didn't know you had picked up that Atilla. It looks like you've been way more productive than me this week. I've only managed to complete two figures.

Technically, it's a "Swamp People Warrior," according to Troll Outpost Miniatures, the manufacturer.

It's a pretty decent resin cast too.

I've got a pretty decent chunk of old Warzone stuff that's half painted or primed hiding around. My hope is to get them done in 2016. I don't even know what I've got to tell the truth though.

That's not even taking into account all the Resurrection stuff I've accumulated too.

I've got to get those Crimson Devils you got me started one of these days!

I think i've managed 2 figures fro the Wz Ressurection KS plus 2 eggdroids that now are suffering from a terminal case of weak resin ankles. Have you experienced that?

Which figures are the egg droids?

Most of my Warzone stuff isn't even built yet, but I have mostly human sized figures as well.

On the other hand, my dino riding Blaine from Kings of War is resting on the round now, whereas he once used to be completely standing up.

Ah. Now I get you.

I wonder if it's the resin Prodoss uses? I know I've got a few other big resin kits, but I don't see any issues with them standing up.

Just my Prodoss stuff seems to be bending over like cheap Bones stuff... hmm...

I'll admit though, first thing I did was scope out everything in the pictures but the mecha. Looks like a Gundam box in the left side of the frame...

So I was not the only one. True that at that point the KS was all rushed with people complaining all over the place so it wouldn't surprise me if Prodos took some shortcuts while in production. Still I love the sculpts tho.

I'm afraid not. That's my airbrush (actually stolen from a friend) Mechas are stored in the closet (execpt when they break out)

Christmas vacation is upon us!

What better way to start it off than with a miserable migraine?

I swear I get some nasty bug EVERY time I have a serious moment of downtime. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

My parents were going to take my kids to Knott's Berry Farm for the day. I haven't been in decades. My wife has never been... ever. We were all set to go, and then BAM... nasty migraine. Stuck at home.

So with no kids in the house, you'd think we'd get up to all sorts of wacky hijinks, right? Nah. I slept almost 6 hours straight in the middle of the day, ate what should constitute baby food, and watched an assortment of badly dubbed martial arts films from around the world.

Certainly not the most fun I've had for the start of an extended vacation period.

I did manage to do a little bit of painting though.

I got Lord Arcanist Ossyan started and finished at some point between Friday and Tuesday morning.

I love his sci fi space elf armor. He's got a blaster gauntlet!

Here's his buddy, a House Shyeel Artificer

Hard to see but the colors are way too dark on him. Going to go back over him today and finish all his glowy orbs. Gotta do his base too, along with a batch of 5 trolls that I never bothered to finish yet.
Sadly you can't see his little pointy shoes floating at the bottom of his cloak. They kind of blend in to his robes.

I started working on The Ancestral Advocate Zaal. According to the fluff, he was a Skorne warlock in the Hordes game who got mortally wounded, and his attendants trasnferred his Eldar soul stone thingee into this giant stone ancestral guardian body (the Skorne are really into their souls acting like Eldar ones, and carry stones around with them to keep them safe from Slanees... the "void."). Skorne also have lots of these stone guardian terra cotta warrior type thingees, but none are as large as Zaal here.

He could give Ashpyxious over there in the corner a run for sheer size of a basic non- monster figure.

He also has a huge cape and headdress I haven't attached yet, but almost finished painting nonetheless.

I've thought he'd make a great Tomb Kings mage or some such.

Speaking of undead, I got a Bane Thrall officer for a reasonable price recently, and even managed to get him painted. Can't say the same for the standard bearer he came with, or the unit of Thralls I built before Thanksgiving...

While not as large as Zaal or Asphyxious, he's a pretty big guy for a regular troop on a 30mm base. Those giant axes in both hands certainly aren't helping him conserve space.

Now something totally different!

These two pinkie guys are some 15mm Blue Moon aliens. They cost me a whopping 60 cents. There's a few more. They seem big for 15mm guys though, considering if I put them on a base they're almost as large as that Iron Kingdoms human.

Tempted to hunt down some more cheap 15mm stuff though. Thanks a lot Barzam!

In other news, I was impressed by Bob's willingness to let his child go to work on his Bones. I figured I'd do the same, as my daughter has been quite pushy about wanting to paint stuff. I guess that's the only way I'll get the box of Bones 2 out of the way before the 3rd one arrives!

The skin and green shirt on the Valkyrie were done my me a milennia ago, everything else is all her. This is still a work in progress though! She informed me she isn't done! Lots of pink, purples, pastel blues... where did she find these colors in my collection? Why am I not using them more often?

I regret nothing! Soon you'll have armies of 15mm aliens. Actually, you could totally use those Kobolds as 15mm lizardmen, too. Your aliens look decent. Are you going to do more on them, or are they done?

Those pinkies aren't even close to being done. I'm going to go with a red wash on them, eyes, teeth, gun details, highlights on their carapace... do something with those bases....

They do need something to fight though.

Today is Christmas Eve? What will Santa be bringing me?

I don't know. But I know I've been trying to clear space on my table for whatever will be arriving soon.

I started off with the tiniest- those little 15mm alien guys.

They were actually kind of fun to paint. I didn't need to worry so much about all the little details.

Here those guys are next to a figure I just did yesterday, Vice Scruator Vindictus.

Photos not as sharp as it needs to be, but hopefully I can that straightened out soon when we get a new camera.

Zaal got himself finished, and is hanging out with some of his Skorne Immortal friends. The one on the left is from Makeda's Exalted Court, while the right one is Hakaar the Destroyer, a solo Skorne model I painted some time ago. I'm not sure if I ever sealed Hakaar. He's a very simple paint job, but he still holds a warm place in my heart for being one of the first figures I really tried to do all the detail work on.

Speaking of figures with lots of detail work, here's three of them that will give me all sorts of irritations that deeper I get in to painting them.

On the left is a Tyrant Commander from the Skorne army, who is REALLY big and bulky. Can't stand the positioning of his left hand, all clutched up to his chest. Wish he'd have it outstretched barking orders at the other Skorne or challenging some other hero from the rival army they're assaulting.

The center figure is a Circle Oroboros Druid. Nothing fancy really, he's one of the metal ones, but they have all kinds of crazy gold patterning on their armor as well.

Last up is Tyrant Vorkesh, who's a little underwhelming at the moment, what with missing his shield hand and his signature super gigantic shoulder pads. That dude has some Menoth level shoulder padding going on! You'll see soon enough, or you can cheat and check him out on the internet.

The last models I'm working on have chosen to be my biggest challenges, in just how should I paint them.

The left is Vociferon, a skarlock thrall who hangs out with the Lich Lord Asphyxious, swallowing souls in his little banner pole there to fuel all their evil spooky scary skeleton- like ways.
Center is a Bane Thrall Standard Bearer, who actually isn't a big deal painting, it's his standard I have no real conclusion on what to do with.

Finally is the bear... which is supposed to be a polar bear. I'm trying to figure out what color to actually paint him. He's currently a really off white/ tan/ buff color, with a bit of a red- brown wash to help the rest of the fur stand out.

Should I leave him as is, or drybrush with an actual white? I know most polar bears aren't true white, just unsure how to progress with it while I get started on his rider.

Hope everyone enjoys their holiday and gets (and gives) what they wanted!

Hmm. Vorkesh seems strangely familiar. Now where have I seen him before?

Nice work. I didn't know you had purchased Vindictus. I've almost purchased him many times. Just couldn't ever pull the trigger.

I think Vindictus was actually the first Menoth figure I willingly purchased.

I'd always liked his weird tall lankiness. Something about him. He's got really long, thin limbs, as opposed to guys like Reznik who are obviously made out of meat like the Gears of War guys.

Hell, Reznik isn't even all that imposing when he's hanging out with the Skorne Tyrants. Those guys have some presence. Makes me wish they'd sculpt a new Xerxis on foot where is isn't all hunched over.

Even Tyrant Vorkesh is kind of hunched over. I guess it's the wait of those giant shoulder pads. At least Menoth's chosen know how to still stand while wearing such magnificent shoulder guards.

Riddled with probably close to a dozen cups of coffee, a multitude of sweets made by family members, and various boozes of a variety of proofs I have succumbed to my paintin' chair in front of the computer, having cataloged all my gifts, just like I used to do when I was a little one, and like my kids will probably be doing in a few hours from now. The two of them REFUSED to go to sleep! I wonder why...?

My daughter was so pumped up upon awakening this morning, she rushed out of bed and went screaming down the hallway "IT'S CHRISTMAS EVE TONIGHT!" much to everyone's chagrin, as we were all sleeping at the time.

Our family always gets together on the Eve to do the gifting thing, so that's what she was all pumped about.

Also, Santa comes to their home and all that.

Funny thing, that Santa- he only brings Japanese stuff. NEVER anything in English. Never. Mostly Youkai Watch, Duel Masters, and Pokemon for the boy and Pretty Cure or Ai Katsu! for the girl. Also Shopkins. I guess Santa reneged on his whole Japanese only thing. Whoops.

So enough about everyone else, let's talk about MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

PRESENTS. Most provided by the skills of Dakka's own Barzam... or myself, because who knows what to get me better than myself?

First up? Something self- inflicted!

Why God, why? Why have you cursed me with such dinky little parts? How will my terrible eyesight and potato- like fingers ever manage?

Next up- this abomination that Barzam dredged up from my childhood. 4 floppy legs and a giant afterburner anus.

Having paid (a) top dollar, the Aminga is a kit I built and painted with Italian paints my Uncle had when i was in Junior High, back in 91 or 92. We'll see if the kit deteriorates to dust as soon as I open the plastic. If it survives, I may just paint and base it. Basing it would require me to probably glue the joints in place, but this sucker was made back before the days of poly caps anyways. Otherwise he'll flail away like one of those giant inflatable balloon guys in front of the mattress store, trying to coax me in with all the fun he is having.

Acrobunch (the show he originates from) had some seriously ugly models. Do yourself a favor and see if you can find the robot with the giant phallic canon built into its crotch.

Spoilered due to the GRAPHIC nature of this robot! Don't say I didn't warn you, and don't think for a moment that its design wasn't intentional!
Spoiler:

The guy on the left I'd wanted more than the guy on the right, but after finishing the Spartacus TV show, I knew I needed to paint up some gladiators. Really like the Murmillo's design. The other guy is growing on me though...

A year hasn't gone by in the last few that I haven't had a Mantic model waiting for me. Now, half those models still aren't built or painted, and we won't discuss how much of the original Deadzone I still have in baggies, but huzzah! Another Mantic figure for me! I actually have most of the Abyssal heroes. Maybe I ought to start working on them...

Hand picked by Barzam. He knew I've been wanting some of those Typhon/ Children of Set models from Warlords of Aegyptus, even more than the Sobeki stuff. The Reaper elf on the left is a sculpt I've always admired, and figured I might as well give it a shot. Guy has at least four or five swords on him.

My Twilight Knight unleashing two more Convergence Vectors Barzam got me from their plastic bags. Twilight Knight will be seeing some Super Dungeon action very soon. Not sure if I'll paint her or not. Those chibi eyes look very difficult to do, and I have really crummy brushes... Props to Soda Pop for coming through and hooking me up when my order got goofed- I order the Twilight Knight, they sent me Beatrix the Pumpkin Queen boss instead. I got to keep the boss and still got my Knight. Yay!

Ain't a holiday without board games in my house. Tahiti is an old hex and chit game, with a bit of civ building and warfare, along with a great you mechanic for when you're about to lose, where your chieftain can just up and abandon the island, ditching the game to go off exploring in hopes of finding a new island to land on- if you're lucky. Rolling off a chart, you may just die on the way, your canoe could sink...all sorts of fun!

Ogre is Ogre. At the price I got it for, it couldn't be beat. I miss the old plastic clamshell pocket game version. That one had a nicer map too. I don't own that one anymore, sadly.

Hoyuk is a neolithic city building game that was on KS a year or two ago, and I couldn't back but Barzam managed to find a really cheap copy for me. Nice art and I like city builders.

Finally...well, finally for today at least. I have a few more things to show off but I already started modeling them, and it's getting dark.

Books that I have been wanting to get a hold of to read for quite some time. While technically part of the D&D line when they had that whole open gaming license, these books read like history or social science textbooks about the world of Privateer's games. The Character Guide (book 1) is a lot more "gamey" with stats and stuff, but it's still filled to the brim with all sorts of useless world building nuggets.

The world guide though? If there's any actual game content in there, I have yet to see it. It's just one big fluff book about Warmachine and Hordes. And it is big, probably around 300 pages or so. While some details may have changed over time, a lot of the core concepts are exactly the same, as Warmachine proper had already hit the market by that point. Really fun to flip through and read.

Comparing these to the new Iron Kingdoms games, it's like night and day. The new books look nicer, but this has WAY more stuff in it.

Now I just have to get the two Monsternomicon books....

Thankfully your insidious corruption is tempered by other purchases you made on my behalf.

Tyrant Vorkesh is just about done. I did do a little detailing on his gems, and one of the shoulder pad ones needed some gold trim around it, and his base isn't done, but he's getting there.

He's hanging out with a plague monk for some odd reason. Originally he had been glued on another base, but that didn't work out and I made a huge mess with it. So he got fused onto a new one with crappy glue that left burn marks it seems.

If i had my way, he'd have a larger shield and would be holding it up rather than resting it against his armor, but I didn't sculpt it.

Here is the same Tyrant, along with a Tyrant Commander, hanging out with two Khadorian guys I'm also going to start working on since the Skorne dudes are wrapping up.

The Skorne Tyrants are pretty big fellows, as the guy on the left with the gun is a pretty average sized human, while fat guy yelling and waving his weapons around there is supposed to be a pretty big guy.

With all the red paint I was using, I started working on some more Bones stuff I had laying around.

Those are supposed to be a Kobold Leader and Sorcerer respecitvely. That poor kobold's mace! I heated it at least three times- didn't matter. It's going to be a wet noodle it seems. I'll be chopping it off soon enough and replacing with a hard plastic leftover soon. I like the sorcerer. He's got little glasses sitting on his nose, as y'know, kobolds don't have the best vision after all.

I also started working on these Wargods of Aegyptus Typhon that Barzam gave me. With their horn- like ears, pointy tails, and evil looking faces, they had to get painted red. They're clutching their chests as their supposed to have shields in their hands, and actually be able to rank up really tightly, so we'll get those all squared away later.

I had hoped to prime all my new goodies the other day, but I ended up tagging along to go see the new Star Wars movie instead. Hopefully today lends itself to more hobby time, but in the end I doubt it will, as we'll probably be heading off to one of the game shops that's a little bit of a drive from here. We'll see how that goes!

Headed out for the rest of the weekend, but got a bit more hobby stuff done.

Typhon Spearmen are pretty much finished.

Started up a unit of Greylords for Khador.

Also more work on the two Khadorian heroes I've got going (left is a solo, right is a warcaster)

The Khadorians need a LOT of touch up and detailing still. Guess that's my plan for next week.

I got an Anima Tactics box set last night. Upon opening it, instead of being greeted by 5 new figures... there were parts for one and a half, with a few random weapons and legs strewn about in the box.

Not sure who I need to get in touch with for that. Really odd, especially considering it was sealed.

Akemashite Omedetou Gozaimasu!

Time for a new year, time to get some models off the table!

Finished up those Khador chaps finally. ignore the leftover mess on their bases. They just need a quick dust- off and they're good to go.

Happy with the Warcaster in the front with the scarred face and gun. Heck, happy with the big portly yelling guy too. The greylord beardie guys in back are pretty decent now. I've got the evil Santa guy who goes with them, who will probably get primed today.

I finished up these two figures, and just started the one in the middle.

Obviously the Yu Jing guy in the middle isn't done yet. Need to do a lot more on it, but it's not like I'm expecting a studio level paint job.

The other project I've been working on are these guys I picked up in Orange County for 99 cents.

They're an Amazonian Steamboat crew from West Wind's Vampire Wars line. While not the sharpest sculpts, and certainly not the nicest job of cleaning them off, they're not bad... for 99 cents.

Upon purchasing them however, my dad, who was with me at the time at the hobby shop, came under the bug of having an actual steamboat for them to tool around on on the Amazon.

My dad has been a pretty hardcore modeler for as long as I can remember. And by hardcore modeler, I mean that he'll just build it himself out of whatever materials he has laying around.

So with some cardboard, paint, glue, and household bits left over (like a party popper for the boiler), my dad fashioned together a quick little 28mm steamboat for the crew to use.

Behold, the Amazon Queen! Soon loaded up with her cargo, she set out on a grand expedition.

My dad's been making boats like this since I was a kid. This is pretty dinky for him. He's got a FLEET of boats for 1/32 scale Britian's type figures. We used to have naval battles every New Year's Day with my Uncle, which often took the entire day, resulting in all of us getting yelled at upon our arrival home well past the time we were supposed to be done. Both my dad and his brother were in a bit of a cold war when it came to navies, with both of them usually having at least 5 to 7 boats available on average.

After that interlude, let's see how the Amazon Queen is faring...

Unfortunately on her maiden voyage she was set upon by a band of ghostly apparitions that quickly sunk her to the bottom of the riverbed.
You can get a good sense of scale on her there though. She's big enough for 30mm figures to stand on each side of the boiler, have cargo on her,

Of course, for services rendered, I've got to put together a box of Wargames Factory woodland Indians he's had sitting around since last Father's day... maybe I ought to talk him into making some sort of trading outpost terrain, or a tent/ tarp covering for the boat...

Wow you are really doing well at the moment with all these minis you are painting, I wish I was that fast.

Amazon Queen looks great with the cargo and crew, don't forget you need a river for the boat as well

Those updated Cybertrnic Egg droids look a hell of a lot better than the old 1st Edition ones. I converted one of the guns and started painting mine back in the 1990's and never finished it. I still have it around here somewhere... Your Hordes stuff continues to tempt me. Last thing I bloody need, of course! And what kit is that bear???? I MUST HAVE!! The gladiators look cool as well, and I really want a whole bunch of those WarGods models... eeergh. And the Khador look pretty cool as well. That's a pretty amazing boat that your dad put together. I'm very impressed.

I shall try not to tempt you too much more...maybe. I'm going to try and reign in my impulse spending- at least for the beginning of the year or until I come across the deal of the moment. We won't mention the multitude of Privateer kits I already have built, primed, based... just not actually painted yet.

The bear is yet another Privateer kit. It's one of the Trollblood warlock's mounts. He's huge, the bear is huge, the two of them together are QUITE large. At least 110mm from the base to the top of the troll's head on top of the bear.

I did manage to finish yet another of those Wargods kits, making my holiday Wargods acquisitions complete.

The regular guys are all on 20mm bases, but this guy is on a 25mm and takes up a lot of space due to his positioning and his billowing cloak.

I also did a bit of converting/ fixing up these last few days before school starts up again.

First, I decided to try redoing my Crucifier and putting the old school stripes all over him.

Picture came out real murky (it was kinda dark and late), but I did try and do all the edge in lighting colors to help bring out the details. He's hanging out with my Amazon crew as their boat was commandeered to get fitted for a cover.

I also found a more suitable weapon for that Bones kobold warlord.

It's an old dwarf axe, but it fit him perfect, and it's not bending over on top of his head any more.

In addition to the stuff I haven't photographed (either nowhere close to being ready or getting dumped on ebay) I got a package from Antimatter games yesterday. Yay! BIG lizards!

A Draconid Scout, and a Draconid hero who has an optional flame breath part. Didn't realize he was going to be that big. Both Draconids aren't even on their bases yet, and the scout also has a large pair of wings that won't get glued til I can finishing painting the details on his back.

A Jade Salamander from Shadowsea. A very nice looking Kroxigor replacement. Or an addition to a Kings of War Salamander army possibly? Also quite big on a 50mm base, which isn't even in the photo.

Also this big guy.

Kalath and his mount are big. Bigger than the old metal carnosaur, bigger than the draconid leader on a theropod that is available from Dark Sword Miniatures still, and while not as lithe and long as the new Carnosaur kits, he has a lot of dimension to him.

Damn - that's a nice haul of lizardmens. What ranges are the winged one, the kroxi-proxie and the Triceratops from?

Luckily I'm out of cash this pay so I can't buy those Hordes Night Elves thingys I was considering. At least not yet...

All those reptiles came from Antimatter Game's Shadowsea line- they also make the underwater skirmish game Deep Wars, and there's a little bit of cross compatibility with both lines.

Sadly, all these reptiles are land bound. Hopefully once I clear out all my current projects they'll be up to the painting plate.

Here's a few of the things I'm trying to finish up painting.

Not the greatest photo, but my Yu Jing officer is almost done. Just got to do the base really. Need to figure out what the foot is resting on there.

My long unfinished Troll Bouncer is just about done. I finished his ham hock hanging on his back. I'll try to photograph it when I do his base. Picture is dark and unfortunately obscured most of his details on his body due to the shield's position. Need to dirty the shield up a bit. I love his patched together look. This metal sculpt is a lot nicer than the plastic one. I don't care for the plastic version at all- probably because it shares a body with the troll axer, whose sculpt I'm not fond of either.

One of my Trollkin Long riders. I believe this guy is supposed to be the champion of the unit. I got the old box of 3 of them (you can have 5 max for a unit I believe) for a whole 15 bucks. He's on a 50mm base for a size reference. His tartan needs a few more colors, and I want to do a bit more with his buffalo thing, and then they both need an ink wash. After that I'll start in on the other two riders that came with him. We was sort of the test subject for color schemes (that and I had to pin him to the base, whereas the other guys are able to stand on their own).

Progress on Borka's polar bear. Need to do his hind claws, the tartan pattern (it's the light blue section of his gear) as well as the studs and stitching on his armor.

Here he is with a work in progress Borka riding him.

At this point the bear is a lot farther along than the rider. I think he looks a lot more polar bear- ish now. I tried to drybrush a more flat white color over all the various other colors that had come before, so at least there's a little depth now to his fur.

Also, I don't think I ever posted my finish Kasaro- To from the Noh Empire in Sodapop's Relic Knights line. Guy is MASSIVE.

That's the Trollkin Long Rider getting dwarfed by both guys in the back there. Kasaro-To is on an 80mm base underneath the rubble. I actually got the last few Noh right before Christmas, so I'm going to have to go ahead and finish painting them up and do a group shot.

PROGRESS!

That Noh figure looks cool. I'd have liked to get a bunch of the Oni from that range, but it never worked out.

I'm so getting that fething bear, though - Not sure about the Trollblood for a rider, though - since I'd want an Ogre or something riding it. Unless I bought two of them....

You're a bad influence, tamb. What with your lizardmen and your hordes and your warmachines.

Bad influence? I'm a positive for everyone man! Just guiding people toward the light!

There's one more Noh figure I don't have, and that's their giant dragon thing, the Dahon. Not too keen on cleaning all the pieces, regardless of how large they'd be (it's also on an 80mm base, but it includes a hill the thing is climbing all over and it sticks out in every direction).

I'd say if you want big bears to have ogres ride on, maybe check out Scibor's? They have some dwarfs on bears that look pretty massive- they all sit pretty comfortably on 50mm squares/ 60mm circles. Haven't got one yet myself, but I will one of these days, mark my words...

Also, Shieldwolf is supposed to have Amazons riding armored up war bears in their next Kickstarter starting next week...

I'm curious about your process. How many models do you work on at once? You always have a bunch of different models to show every time you post, oftentimes with no apparent relation to each other...

...process? There is only chaos. CHAOS.

I'll start something, and if it doesn't grab me right away, or I get bored of it halfway through, I'll tuck the model away and pull something else out.

Where do they go though?

I'm going to show you something no other eyes have laid eyes on.

One of my drawers of shame.

This is one of about 7 drawers of built figures I've got in my office. Other drawers have less ready to go figures, but they're in those as well. We won't talk about bits and unbuilt figures today. Bonus points if you can identify more than 5 models in that photo.

So when the mood strikes me, I'll yank a few pieces out of one of those drawers and get back to work on it. There's a lot of figures, and a lot of drawers, so there's always SOMETHING I can paint.

Or I'll dip into the built and unpainted boxes.

Or I'll start work on whatever my most recent acquisition is.

Like I said- CHAOS.

There is no rhyme or reason to what I paint other than what tickles my fancy at the moment.

Been a while since I painted any reptiles.

So I did.

This is an Avatars of War Saurian Thrall Mauler. He's a really big guy. He's on a 40mm base and sticks out in just about every direction. He's also very busy visually, with bumps, spines, horns, and spikes either growing off of him or strapped to him somewhere. I really like him!

A side/ rear view of him as he leads his lizard buddies on to glory. I think this pic really shows just how big he is. If ever there was a perfect model for an Oldblood, it's this guy. Just absolutely massive.

Those two lizardmen got painted up this weekend as well, but they're pretty ho-hum basic guys so I didn't bother trying to photograph them. Note their old school green bases I painted years ago (that was all that was painted actually- when I bought them, someone had primed them light blue which I just didn't care for, but didn't bother doing anything with for a good 3 or 4 years).

Here's the guy lurking in the background, from the Shadowsea line by Antimatter Games, a Ridgeback Spine Breaker.

Not the greatest picture unfortunately. He's also a head or two taller than the average lizardman saurus.

I'm hoping to make some progress through my reptilian backlog over the next few weeks.

I'm also going to have to do a bit of culling of my collection. There's just way too much stuff in my house due to my haphazard collecting. Let the hemorrhaging begin!

How quickly this week went!

I haven't had much time for hobbying, as I went a bit wild on ebay selling stuff and trying to clean things up, and every time I'd have a moment to spare I was busy packing things up.

At the very least I've got plenty of funds to waste on more Kickstarters now.

What I did paint was a bunch of random stuff... as usual.

I know I posted this guy the other day, but I've been working diligently on him all week.... and the picture looks exactly the same. Ugh.

Frustrating, as I've been layering lots of greens and blues to get him to a point I'm happy with.

One of my favorite things about the Antimatter lines (Shadowsea and Deep Wars) is they all have unique base inserts. Some are more elaborate than others, but every single figure, big or small, has one.

I also got to work on a few random Chronopia figures I've had sitting around.

This is a Stygian something or other. A snake? Guardian? I don't recall, and I don't have the books handy, what with being at work before school starts. He was a mess when I got him. He still is, come to think of it. Obviously he isn't done. His head doesn't actually fit on the body, and I had to do all sorts of filing and there's still gaps (that I was too lazy to fill for such an old and inexpensive figure). Head looks too large for the body. Did him in red like all my other snakes.

Had to give him a new set of lower hands because one was broken and the other was missing, so he ended up with some Saurus hands which fit perfectly.

This is my dwarf. There are many like him, but this one is mine. Can't recall what he's supposed to be...

I also did some Mantic stuff.

Started working on some Abyssal Dwarfs I had... It's interesting to note the guy on the right has a very similar stilt and power system to the Helfather from Deadzone. Very similar armor design too. Makes me wonder if the Abyssal Lord was what they used as a base for sculpting. Hmm...

The half breed centaur guy needs some serious gap filling, but I just don't have the heart to mess with green stuff when it's really cold in my office.

I also painted an Enforcer Peace Keeper. Why? Beats me. I think he looks decent. Will probably start paitning and building the rest of my Enforcers now that I have a color I'm satisfied with.

My god, you painted a sci fi figure in power armor with a gun!

I can see the differences on the Shadow Sea lizard. He's looking really good. I didn't bother putting all that much effort into my lone Deepwars lizard.

That Abyssal Lord looks surprisingly good too. I don't like much of that line, but he's a nice looking one. Is he wearing a full face helmet, or is his face exposed?

@Miguel- thanks for the clarification on the Stygian. No Firstborn unfortunately. Been sniped on eBay for every one I've wanted...

No thanks to Azazelx and his painting challenge, I succumbed to the painting bug this past 3 day weekend and finally finished the 3 Carnosaurs I've had sitting around.

Making progress on my second hand Saurus

Started trying to finish my Stegadon. The dino itself is done (outside of needing some shading on his top half), but I have no clue how his howdah goes together. Any idea where I can see the directions? I bought him out of the consignment case a long time ago, and he was in HORRIBLE shape. I could never get the horrible, gravely primer off of him, so I just tried to work him up from what he was. I should get some closeups later.

I also managed to finish up two Confrontation Orcs, a pet cobra from Wargods of Aegyptus, and started in on a Salamander proxy (a Shadowsea Lava Lizard)

Did a random Skaven too, and started painting this random 99 cent post apocalyptic guy from a line I'm not familiar with. Actually I started up on a few Skaven, they just weren't handy when I had my phone in hand.

So I've been really craving a Skarbrand model. Unfortunately once I get my head set on an idea, it won't let go until I follow through. Since I've sold a fair amount of stuff on eBay this past month, I decided to treat myself to one (nevermind the Start Collecting: Khorne dameons I bought). In a moment of stupidity, since the kit was on auction and I was afraid I would lose, despite how badly I wanted one, I found a kit available with a make an offer. I offered a ridiculous lowball number, on a whim, but the guy actually accepted it.

So now I'm going to have two Skarbrand models coming.

Not wanting to surprise my wife, I went in full disclosure mode and explained what happened, letting her know I ended pu getting it a lot cheaper and that I'd put the extra model back on eBay for a bit more than I paid for it, so I'd make a bit of a profit off my mistake. It was an odd reaction, seeing her pissed but happy at the same time. Reminded me of one of those Larry David .gifs.

So here are some non- January painting challenge models I worked on this weekend.

I actually was still doing lizards- I was working on some incorrectly built ripperdactyls or whatever they're called I purchase some time ago from the hobby shop's consignment case. They've got the wrong riders for the type of unit they're supposed to be. To further complicate matters, they don't want to take any orange paint, which is the color I wanted them to be!

Also got bases all nice and gravely, so I'll be painting those up as well as finalizing my Stegadon's rider chocies, as GW finally sent me the instructions for it a week later.

I've pretty finished much finished my Stygian Guardian from Chronopia.

I got a half price Skarr Bloodwrath on Saturday, which is a price I was more than happy to purchase his murder flailaxe weapons at.

I ended up giving him more of a Beastman paint scheme. Didn't Khorne used to have his own Beastmen anyways?

Here's a semi- Beastman looking Skullreaper. I ended up giving him a tail and too much armor, and probably too many of the escorcelled weapons as well.

This Stormcast Prosecutor is the result of having leftover paint from all the lizard stuff I was working on.

Here's that same Stormcast hanging out with a Reaper Balor from their Bones line, who was started upon receiving the Kickstarter 2 package and left alone for months after that. He's just about done now though. Still need to do the base obviously.

A group shot of the guys from this weekend.

After painting that Bloodwrath guy, I really like him and his ridiculous flails. Hell, I'd be grabbing a lot more GW heroes if they were more reasonably priced.

I'll have to finish that Stegadon tonight and post my finished Lizard units for January in the other topic, and then I think it's on to Khorne daemons... and possibly Tau!

Ha... like I know any more about building a KoW army?

I think a lot of it depends on the point value. Hopefully we can both go check out this local league, and hopefully it isn't full of the more colorful types that frequent our local shops.

In other news I've spent the last week trying to get these damned Terradons to take paint. Primed 'em and have had to put multiple coats on and they still aren't at a level I'd like.

I'm debating whether to put red or blue stripes on their wings.

I think it's taken about 5 or 6 coats now, at least.

Also finally got around to finishing that Yu Jin Crane Officer.

Satisfied with it. It came out decent. I want to try that new Hac Tao hacker though. I like that guy's design. Still need to finish that PanO Aquila guard I have half finished.

Also got my Stegadon all finished up now. Just need to figure out where I put the crew!

Other than the missing crew, sucker is FINISHED. Had that thing for a LOOOOOOONG time sitting around with the horrible priming job that was inflicted upon it. Some day I may get another to build in one of the other variations. No rush though.

Started up on my February projects, as my January ones are just about complete. Next month- DAEMONS and Tau! What the hell happened that has caused me to pick up so much GW product recently? No idea.

Nah, I blame it on the local store offering a pretty nice chunk off GW stuff, plus store credit making those new start collecting boxes a pretty sweet deal.

Plus I think I'm reconnecting with my younger self and getting a bunch of models I liked but never had the money for- mainly Tau and Daemons. They were never really financially within my grasp in my younger days, or I was busy plumbing record bins for old punk vinyl to hoard or going hog wild on Hobbylink Japan with the advent of the Internet.

Coincidentally the old punk vinyl helped pay for my wedding and wife's rings, while the models just ended up collecting dust in various locations to this day.

I know it's not February, and I haven't finalized what I want to do with those Terradons in terms of striping (I also am not sure where their riders are), I decided to just take the plunge and start working on Skarbrand.

Sick of seeing him in pieces waiting to get painted and put together. I'm a stickler for having every surface covered in paint before I glue it down. I can't stand having unpainted stuff underneath pieces where you can see the parts below.

I know I was bad about not cleaning up the gaps between pieces. Too impatient. Bad picture once again undersells the fact that I tried to actually do some layering in his skin tones.

I really am a fan of the model. Not a fan of the price tag however- for nearly double the price of my Boneripper figure, I get something of comparable size. Actually I think the basic Bloodthirster is bigger than Skarbrand, due to them leaping in the air and having completely whole wings. Now if they'd included all the basic Bloodthirster sprues in the box, I could see them justifying the 130 dollars they want for him. Thankfully I didn't pay anything close to that, but irregardless... a Tau Storm Surge would cost a comparable price, and that's quite a large kit.

Might need to get one of those just to compare them.

Skarbrand doesn't seem quite as big as I was expecting him to be. He'll still probably make a good centerpiece for your demon army. Too costly for me though. If I go through with a demon army, I'll have to use a Bones figure for my Abyssal Fiend.

I still say you need to get a goat for your son. Stonehaven makes one. It'd be a good excuse to make a Stonehaven order.

Highlording it up with Highlord Tamburlaine. 7/27 Creature Caster monsters! @ 2016/01/28 18:45:36

Post by: highlord tamburlaine

No, he really isn't as big as I had hoped or expected. Not to say he's tiny or anything, but the price really does not reflect the size of the model. It's even more apparent when you consider all the leftover bits on the sprue, and the lack of the additional Bloodthirster wings and optional bits that would have justified the price a bit more. At that point I wouldn't have minded the actual cost, as I'd have pretty much everything outside of an extra torso for another Bloodthirster, but I am certainly glad I got it for almost the same price as my Boneripper (who I also didn't pay anything close to MSRP on).

I'll see about getting the kid a goat. It's not like I don't have painted Beastmen laying around. I was trying to talk him into some minotaurs, but he wouldn't take the bait. I'll probably start scoping eBay for some cheap gor models. Maybe I'll get around to painting that Avatars of War Beastman Lord I have. He also wants me to get one of those Forgefiends and a Heldrake.

Running a demon army, I'm thinking of using lots of big stuff. Counts- as Molochs and the like. I like the idea of big stuff being supported by a few units of little shooty guys, or just as a screen before the big stuff comes steamrolling along.

More than likely though, I'd start with a Salamander army. Going to need to borrow your Uncharted Empires book though!

Did you get my email about the hobby shop paper? Do you think you can pick it up next time you're there?

Work has continued on Skarbrand.

In his travels through the Realms of Chaos, it seems he developed something of a sense of moral decency and has decided to grace us with a pair of pants.

He also decided to grow a head and wings it seems since the last time we saw him.

He is accompanied by a Balor model from the last Bones Kickstarter campaign, which cost me around 20 bucks and also came with a "Demon Prince" that was awfully similar to the description of Orcus back in the old D&D books.

It just floors me how GW can charge so much for so little. It's a very cool model, and I'm really enjoying painting him- have most of his other armor pieces finished in fact, just need to glue them, and contrary to the photos I took, I have started working on all the tatters of his wings... but damn. The price. THE PRICE. Hell, I think the basic Bloodthirster kit is actually bigger than him.

Maybe it's all part of some crazy pay to win scheme for Age of Sigmar? He's got crazy stats for that game. Hell, if I ever try playing it, I've got a pretty prestigious Chaos warband I can play at this point....

I should have stuck a basic infantry figure in there to give a sense of scale. Both these dudes are quite large. Skarbrand is on a 100mm base I believe. Maybe 80, but pretty sure it's 100.

Ask and ye shall receive. Be aware that Minotaur Lord has a special base, but the kids were playing with the Bones stuff so I don't know where they put it.

It also cost nowhere close to what Skarbrand cost.

You could always get creative with greenstuff, and maybe tubular sprue? Skarbrand and the Balor Demon both look very nice. I'm tempted by both, and I think my next Reaper order is going to include that Minotaur Demon if he's finally released. Does he have many bendy issues?

The Carnosaurs up top look great, and no little thanks to you, I've had two of the "Start Collecting" Seraphon boxes turn up in the last week.

Minotaur Demon is definitely out in the wild, as I bought mine at the local shop. Bendy issues were with the horns and weapon. I solved the bendy problem by just gluing the shaft of the weapon against his thigh, as the thing kept warping and curling. No problems since. The horns weren't too big of deal. I just left them as is.

Not sure how much of a hurry I'm in to be sculpting demonic genitalia.
I've got a fair amount of Darklands stuff arrivign soon as it is, so that ought to keep that urge in check.

Those Seraphon starter boxes are crazy deals. It's basically buy a box and get everything besides the Carnosaur for free. I'll be getting one eventually to build up as a Troglodon.

Just need to get through my Tau and Khorne boxes first, and then possibly a Skitarii one, because why not?

First Menoth, now Skitarii? Quit trying to muscle in on my territory. What colors would you do Skitarii in? Just go with the plain Mars colors, or go with one of the other established schemes? Or will you do your own? And what about the Tau? How are you planning on painting them?

I really like that piece of art too. Very evocative of old Gundam box art.

I may just get started on that Commander this weekend. I'm getting anxious to get to work on him. Only thing is I need some ideas on how to clutter up his base, as I'm probably going to have him on the flight stand.

I'm in no rush on the Skitarii. Just something I might pick up for the hell of it to build. Probably would get a Ghostkeel or Riptide before them though, unless the price was REALLY right. I'm thinking of bringin more stuff down to the hobby shop and clear even more space out of my shelves this weekend. Want to tag along?

So while I haven't posted many photos recently, I certainly have been putting my glue and red paints to work.

My two Khorne personalities, the Herald of Khorne and Skulltaker.

Also managed to finish a few of the Bloodletters from the Start Collecting: Khorne box. Speaking of that Khorne box, everything has been built and glued, with the exception of the Throne thing for the Herald, which is semi- built so I can paint the interior parts of it more easily.

Here's all the Bloodletters base coated and waiting for more.

Finally made up my mind on what colors to do the juggernauts in, so they're going to start getting base coated as well today, and hopefully I'll be getting their bases prepped while I finish up the bloodletters and complete Skarbrand's as well.

Perhaps blue is a color more to your liking?

Spoiler:

Not sure why the picture came out super gigantic.

This was supposed to be a February stretch goal for finishing more red demons, but I couldn't help myself and wanted to paint something besides red.

Got a bit of the Gundam TR-1 Hazel Custom in mind I think while I was painting it.

Still needs some work done obviously. Going to finally paint that Rangers Project Salamander I got from another Dakka member at that swap n' shop last spring.

Well... I mean I wasn't being sarcastic, just terse since I was on the phone Nothing wrong with more red demons, all the better to harvest the souls of skulls of the man-dudes.

That Tau suit *is* pretty cool, however. I thought he was taking a poo as I slowly scrolled down but then I got to the flight stick and it made a lot more sense

Is that a regular (new) crisis suit or is it something else?

Hey man, those are my first daemons, like.... ever. Was never super keen on the old metals as I was way more into shooty space men at the time and was much more strapped for hobby spending money (as it was really at the whim of what my dad like enough to purchase).

That suit is is one of the new plastic "Tau Empire Commander" kits. I think it replaced the old finecast one. It has parts to build it as some sort of crisis variation, but all the fins and wing extensions make the commander variation a way more cooler blinged- out kit.

Ahh that explains the suit, it looked vaguely like a crisis but it had more going on.

I'd imagine a Commander suit would be Titan sized compared to a TAG obviously.

It's definitely a bit taller than a basic crisis suit.

I like the red demons. I have been experimenting with my demons coming in a large variety of colors, and the traditional red looks nice. May I suggest a red wash on the skin, and a black wash on the gold? Both would add depth. Your seraphon look very nice too btw.

The finished red guys actually did get multiple washes- it just didn't photograph well. Problem I have is when I use a new ink it tends to come across as real glossy before I give it a dull coat. Hopefully that will help. That's the plan for this weekend, as my shelf of items in need of coating is starting to overflow!

Doesn't help that my phone's camera sucks as well. I'm getting a new camera this afternoon, so maybe that can help with the photo taking, what with being a dedicated camera and all.

That's assuming the manual is in English... knowing my wife it probably won't be.

So I'm supposed to be painting daemons, but other things keep ending up getting painted instead.

I did this guy the other day for some reason. I think it was to prepare myself for the box of metal beastmen that seem to have accumulated at my house downstairs.

And as you can see, I got back to work on this Myrmidon for Retribution.

He frustrates me because you can't see any depth in the paint. It's there! Damned camera!

This lady frustrates me also. Same issue with the Myrmidon- there's a variety of paint that's been put on her, you just can't really see it. The mixture of greys, white, and off whites make it look like it's just unpainted plastic, but it actually isn't. Maybe I'll do a close up to prove it. Anyways, I pulled her out and started trying to finish her up since it seems the Kingdom Death expansions will be coming sooner rather than later. Those are some of the Gripping Beast arabs that have taken a liking to the lady.

I started trying to finish up my Blood Crushers or whatever the daemon riding juggernaut users are called. Underbellies are all done in metallics, just need to do the brass and bronze detailing on the tops of them, glue the riders on, and I'll have actually completed my painting assignment of my Start Collecting: Khorne box.

Needed a break of painting red daemons and grey tau suits.

For some reason I decided to paint up one of the Shadows of Brimstone figures. I think he's a Marshall. I don't know. This was one of the red KS exclusive guys.

The details were TERRIBLE. He had no face, and he seems to be wearing an oven mitt and a gun glove that is attached to his coat. I tried to make the best of the super soft details. I actually kind of enjoyed him, in a super simple way. Will probably just paint the base in a single color and use an ink to bring out the texture of the base itself and call it a day. May end up grabbing a few more Brimstone guys off the sprue to paint.

On the opopsite end of the spectrum, I have this figure.

Not the greatest photo, but I really tried to blend a few colors in there to make it decent looking. Happy with how she looks in person. That cloak of hers look one color here, but there's at least three that I know I used on it. I'm trying to figure out what to do with the base. I'm thinking I'll highlight all the edges in a neon green or something, put a bunch of weird runes down that obelisk thing she's standing on, maybe do the same for the base itself? Not sure.

Here's Becbunzen, a Confrontation character Goblin of No-Kan-Dar. I like him. He's an older sculpt, so he's all squished up (he was a single piece) and it's hard to figure out sometimes where one part ends and another begins. I was a bit miffed that I lost the auction for the 2nd edition sculpt of him. The later goblin sculpts are pretty cool actually. I think if nobody ends up buying my Goblins on eBay, I may just paint them all myself.

Guess I should get back to painting my Tau Fireteam...

Got distracted from starting Tau by trying out more Brimstone figures.

Both spiders and the tentacle thing (Strangler?) have pretty simple paint jobs. I think I can probably go through the whole lot of them.

I'm thinking I may do the other box up in alternate colors to represent some of the variations. Maybe light blue spiders for Targa's?

Maybe that's what I'll do for my March goal....

I guess it's official. I'm knee deep in 2 boxes of Brimstone figures to paint now.

Started batch painting all the spiders, and started in on the heroes for City of Ancients. Not sure how I'll do "El Boracho," the Bandito from the set up yet.

Damn their faces are like mush though.

Having gotten started on the painting, the kids are now expressing some interest in actually playing the game.

I contacted FFP about 1.5 shipping and was quoted a 3 digit figure to get the current stuff shipped. Yeah. I don't think so.

May go ahead and order some of the non- KS monsters from Miniature Market along with some Dwarf Slayers.

Highlording it up with Highlord Tamburlaine. 7/27 Creature Caster monsters! @ 2016/03/07 16:25:31

Post by: highlord tamburlaine

Glad I got everything straightened out with FFP in regards to Brimstone shipping.

As I suspected, that was shipping to Canada. They got mixed up due to the way my address reads.

Guess I'm getting 1.5 shipping for Brimstone after all!

To celebrate I went ahead and started painting up some more heroes.

Apologies for the rushed photo (it was overcast and raining when I took it). Neither had a face really. I had to guess where their details were supposed to go. I think the one on the left is a Marshall, while the one on the right is a Gunslinger. Irritated with the Marshall because his eyes and eyebrows look like they're all one blob of paint. They weren't! They're different colors too!

In all honesty, I don't really care. They're simplistic sculpts, they're getting simplistic paint. I decided I'd do everything with a sandy, dirty like color for the bases, which are already textured. A little ink and drybrushing on it makes it look much more natural. I've done that with a few enemies so far, but these guys haven't receive that treatment.

I figure after multiple blasts of gloss sealers and a matte varnish in the end, they should be pretty durable and can probably just be tossed back into the box.

Progress is moving along nicely with all the enemies from the City of Ancients as well. All the void spiders are in need of an ink wash, the stranglers just need their teeth and claws finished, and I need to drybrush the Night Terrors, and all the enemies will be done!

In between Brimstone stuff, I've been working on this guy, who's just about complete.

Dude was a MESS when I got him. Broken parts, terrible glue job, weapons were royally mangled (I tried to repair them, but I don't have any Ogre bits left to repair the club's handle), tons of flash ALL over him.... it was a royal pain in the ass. They pinned that stupid back banner on too, and it did not want to separate, making painting his back very obnoxious. I persevered, and outside of his base and the strings the skulls hang from, he should be good to go.

As you can see he's a fair bit chunkier than a regular Ogre. Is he worth triple the price of one, or just him versus an entire other box? Not sure. I got mine for under 30, so I can't complain too much.

So I find my goal for March has morphed from working on Tau to getting my core boxes for Shadows of Brimstone painted. With the 1.5 stuff shipping soon (hopefully, since I added it on late) I figured it's high time this game gets some heavy rotation.

Just about everything in The City of Ancients box has at least gotten base coated. Like I said before, I'm going to stick to really simple paint schemes and really simple base design since I figure these will probably see some serious abuse on the table, especially if my kids get in on the action like they say they will.

Not pictured are one of the Night Terrors who was still drying, as well as two tentacles that I forgot downstairs and need to do tonight.

Next up will be highlights and shading on just about everything. At least the spiders are all pretty much finished. Probably do the Stranglers next.

I seem to recall that when I played it with highlord tamburlaine, we got totally overwhelmed in our very first encounter and immediately died when we triggered a cave-in. Hopefully he's done better in subsequent games.

As for the figures, those are very bright and colorful. You really got a lot done quickly. Is one of those tentacles a Day Of The Tentacle reference? That big green monster on the right looks more like it's puking than anything.

Highlording it up with Highlord Tamburlaine. 7/27 Creature Caster monsters! @ 2016/03/10 21:11:41

Post by: highlord tamburlaine

I *was* thinking of Day of the Tentacle when painting one of them. I don't think a single tentacle matches, but that was intentional.

The big Behemoth or whatever it's called does in fact look like its barfing up the tentacles. The kids said the same thing. I just need to finish the Bandito's sombrero and find where I put the Piano Lady, and the set will all be base coated at that point.

Personally, I love the game. It oozes theme, and with all the new expansions coming out I can give it its proper day in the sun.

The few times I've played it have all been met with relative disaster, either due to poor draws, poor dice rolls, or terrible events just damning my heroes.

Those have all been one- off adventures though. I've been waiting for the 1.5 stuff before I really attempt to do a campaign with persistent heroes.

I know with the new stuff coming out, cover is going to play a bigger role, enemy formations that grant bonuses becomes a thing, more wily ranged adversaries will be showing up... there's a lot to look forward to.

At the recent pickup day they had with FFP, there was mention that somewhere down the line they'd like to do a Level 9+ expansion for maxed out heroes some day.

Got the Night Terrors in the back looking halfway decent. Need to go back over their eyes. Used a blue glaze since I took this picture and am quite pleased with the results.

My Bandido has had a lot of touch up since I took this as well. Started in on the Preacherman as well. Should be able to post him tonight/ tomorrow morning.

Looks like my Swamp Slug and other goodies from Miniature Market are showing up this afternoon. Hurray! Need to figure out what is going to Barzam for his birthday, what I'm keeping for myself, and what is ending up as eBay fodder to fuel my Kickstarter habits.

Boy am I not updating this as often as I should!

I tried to be productive this past weekend. Got all my Brimstone stuff I've shown off blasted with multiple coats of sealants, so they should be good to just hurl back in the box. Took care of the majority of the Khorne stuff as well, so my waiting to get sprayed pile is substantially diminished.

However my waiting to get primed/ built/ finished piles have all grown substantially larger. Got a bunch of GW metal ogre characters for very reasonable prices this weekend. Also got my Hammer & Forge pledge of barbarian dwarfs. There's also a few Start Collecting boxes waiting to get cracked open as well...

I started, finished, based, and sealed this Mantic Ogre hero, Gorkaorkarok or whatever his name is. I still really like the restic Ogres Mantic made. I'm going to have to give their metal ones a spin, see if I like them as much. They don't seem as primal/ animalistic looking as these.

Picture does not want to cooperate, but I got this Chaos Lord just about done as well. Need to do the scar on the back of his head, and a little shading on his horns. Always liked this sculpt.

Pulled out a few already primed Antimatter Games figures to work on while their DeepWars campaign is going on. Everyone is in various stages of painting completion. Barzam did the Draconid floating in midair there.

The octopus faced Dark Mariner is actually finished, it's just his base that isn't. The bug scientist is in the same situation. I'll take better closeups of the two of them when the bases are done. The giant tongued- Gark is the only one who actually needs to get finished on all fronts.

....and here's some other totally random stuff! English Footmen, a Confrontation goblin, and a Saxon Thegn. My local shop had tons of plastic historicals for ridiculously cheap prices, so I had to act on it and grab some. Figure they can be used for Frostgrave or something. Also just gives me something new to paint.

There's also an old Chronopia dwarf sitting in the background of all these photos that finally got finished, but he's a little shy still.

Plenty more random stuff coming up too! Just you wait and see!

Thankfully he isn't as dusty looking in this picture as he is in person. He'd been sitting on a shelf near an open window for quite a few months. Thankfully I got most of it cleaned up.

Also finished up a Brimstone Slug of Jargono.

I'm not sure what class the girl is supposed to be. A ranged one? We'll get her done regardless. Dug out an Indian Scout to work on as well, and a few more of the walking dead zombie guys that go in the Swamps of Death box.

Was the slug a post-KS release? It seems more sharply detailed than the lumpy KS figures. Unfortunately, while you did a good job on it, it's giving me flashbacks to Galaxy of Terror.

Has my flurry of activity with the Dark Mariners influenced you to get back into Deepwars?

Slug was a post-KS release, yeah. Same with the hellvermin (the two headed giant rat monster) I started some time back. I would not be surprised if we encounter them over my vacation.

You are down for playing since there is no spousal intervention to stop us, correct? Or are we going HAM on Kingdom Death?

I will admit that your Mariners may have had some influence in getting me off my duff to finish mine.

The Kickstarter currently running has also spurred me into action. Doesn't hurt that the theme of underwater monstrosities and mermaids resonates with both kids too.

Saturday is fine- got family stuff to do anyways. I'm thinking more next week when I'm off on break and everybody else is out of town.

Regardless, progress continues in the land of Brimstone. Rancher has most of her base coats down.

Needs some highlighting and shading still. Probably going to try and put a checked pattern on the red stuff.... something to break up the monotony of a single color block.

Here she is ready to blast away some random undead from the other Brimstone box (Swamps of Death) that I figured I'd play around with painting.

Somehow a random Mantic skeleton crawled his way into the melee as well.

My Malifaux Guild Guards came in yesterday, and I already started working on them. Should see them showing up by this weekend. Also started in on a few other random critters from Swamps of Death.

Trying to figure out how best to do the eyes on the Goliath (big green tentacle vomiting guy). His skin is so dark green that the shiny black eyes get lost in his skin. Maybe I should put some lightened highlights around the eyes to bring them out more?

Tentacle Vomit Guy's eyes might benefit from being treated like gemstones, with spot highlights that won't get lost according to the lighting.

I like those zombies-- they remind me of Solomon Grundy (the Green Lantern villain).

Alright.

So I think I came up with a good solution for the Goliath's eyes. I was looking at the artwork on the box, and noticed the eyes are all red, which is interesting because I'm pretty sure they were black in the artwork inside the manual (or maybe it mentioned the creature having jet black eyes in the fluff).

I had played with a few different layers of various greens around the eyes, but in the end I settled on using some red around the eyes. I thought the results were pretty decent.

At least you can see clearly where they are now. I'm going to go back over his gum line and shade it in, and put a little more detail on his teeth. Almost finished with the whole box!

Speaking of finishing up the box, I also found my Saloon Girl. She was in a box of scatter terrain. I had a feeling she was there- a lot of it had been sitting on my dining table when I was building Brimstone figures, and I just kind of swept everything into a box when we were going to have company over (and obviously, promptly forgot about her).

Obviously she's not done. I just started her! Trying to find inspiration on how to finish her online. She'll be done this weekend for sure. You can see my test colors on a Hellbat in the background there.

In addition to the Saloon Girl, I found my last (missing) Void Spider. Once they're out of the way, I'll have completed all of Shadows of Brimstone! Yay! Time to get a photo of it all then!

No work (SPRING BREAK) means more painting. Especially since I'll be trapped next week in a Purgatory- like hell of being trapped at home with the kids and NOBODY left to pawn them off on.

Doesn't help that my TV just died on me after 10+ years, so I'm going to need something to distract them FAST.

Stayed up late last night because why not if I don't have to get up super early, and wrapped up these two Malifaux ladies.

A Guild Guard (who's male counterpart is desperately hunting for a similarly sized base)

Lady Justice

And they scale mighty nicely with my actual Brimstone stuff.

Both Malifaux ladies were so danged fiddly! No surprise considering Wyrd gets all their stuff done at the same Factory as Kingdom Death's plastics. Lady Justice in particular had some TINY pieces as well as connection points. TINY. I pray nobody looks at her funny and she falls into pieces.

I kind of want to get one of the metal versions of her now though...

Also completely unrelated to 1800s dressed ladyfolk, but I got this dude in the mail and started painting him.

He's a Runesmiter for the FyreSlayers from Age of Sigmar. Dudes just all brass and nekkid dwarf butt. (Un)fortunately I haven't had to paint anywhere near as many dwarf butts in Sigmar as I have from Confrontation.

Modest naked dwarfs?

I thought for a moment you were painting him up as a statue.

It saddens me that I won't be able to get any painting done while I'm house sitting, but we'll have to have a smackdown or two while you're free.

The dorf there does have skin. Just not the best photo, and it does blend in a bit with the bronze.

Hell, he basically is a statue anyway with all the bronze adornments and runes all over him.

Brimstone is awesome! You totally should open it.

We took all the painted stuff for a spin the other day. Fun times, other than constant ambushes and Barzam not pulling his weight in combat with his Pianee Player.

Finished up that Runesmith Fyreslayer guy, and painted up the Kickstarter exclusive Weremole that Ganesha games did for their Hammer and Forge supplement.

Need to give him a proper base (as that's a Privateer loner one), and also have the other guy on foot that came with the Fyreslayer lizard. Should get him done soon as well.

Besides a ridiculously large pile of half finished Ogres...

Post by: highlord tamburlaine

The Ogres are slowly coming together.

I used what little free time I had over the past few days to get them to this point.

Some are a little farther along than others. There's an Ironblaster gunner and two Mournfang cavalrymen hanging out here also. I ended up with an extra Bull due to not paying attention to the body types of the ranged guys, so I'll have to go get some spare bodies to finish that unit off.

Started in on a metal tyrant and the Mournfangs themselves are pretty much done. Need to fix up their tusks and eyes.

Here's Kohril. I've always liked the sculpt of Kohril. He looks cool. I got this metal one for five bucks. Thank goodness for people clearing out collections! I don't own any other White Lions for him to hang out with, but I always thought he'd make a cool RPG hero. Had planned to use him for Dungeon Saga before I saw how "eh" the crawl rules were.

He's obviously not done yet.

Now here's something COMPLETELY different (as if Elf heroes from me are a normal thing too)...

A Megaminis "Kung Fu" pack! This is only a portion of it too! These guys are so... I don't know. I don't want to say awful, but, well...

Their features are just so amateurish. Blob hands, notches to represent fingers, holes in the sides of heads for ears... they do have a certain charm though.

The kung fu guys do have charm to them. They almost look like they should be boardgame pieces. They'll certainly give your collection some funk that it didn't have before.

Progress has certainly been made since last week's batch of shots.

Here's those Kung Fu guys. Some finished, more started, a few *STILL* in the blister. It just keeps on giving! Some of these sculpts are pretty wonky, with hands unsure of whether they have thumbs or not, not following human musculature, or just being generally strange blobs of stuff.

Guy in the black gi is totally getting done up like Cobra kai. Gotta give him a yellow trim. Ninja dude is probably going to have the word "ninja" written on his back just to remind everyone how awesome he is.

Still trying to figure out what to do with the tonfa girl in the back. She's wearing a weird face mask. It's not exactly a hockey mask (my first thought), but it's not like an old fashioned Noh mask or anything else. Suggestions?

Finished up Kohril.

Not happy with his axe. Probably should have filed it a bit better. It was really rough.

Built the rest of my Malifaux posse. Actually started painting the Scales of Justice.

Finished up my Fyreslayer Runesmiter, and got started on my Rune Father. Also based them along with an old Chronopia dwarf and my Weremole.

Bases need some highlights still. Rune Father needs some shading on his arms especially. Weapon too.

And to continue my New Year's challenge, my month of April Ogres are making some good progress.

Mournfang cavalry are just about finished! Need to do some touch up and highlights still. I will take some individual pictures of them when their bases are finished up. Will definitely need a few more!

Leadbelchers and leftover Bulls are pretty much done other than touch ups and highlighting. Still need to get some replacement bodies to finish off the Belcher unit, or make whatever their hero is called.

Despite me being quite irritated with how much garbage is all over this thing, I'm just about done with my Iron Blaster carriage (and mount that pulls it).

There's another tusk that has yet to be glued on, but that is mostly due to me finishing up the cannonbarrel that sits in the middle between them. They're all done, just needing to be glued. I have to paint a lot of the bits and junk that goes on the back of the thing behind the gunner. At least that's all superfluous decorations and not a big deal.

Besides Ogres I'm supposed to be painting, as usual my attention has been wandering onto other things.

I picked up a box of minotaurs last week and got started on one to play with the colors.

He's obviously still in need of a lot of work, but I'm fairly satisfied with the results. The darker color helps immensely. Can't stand the flesh colored ones that GW put on the box. These must have been some early CAD renderings due to the weird blockiness on some of the muscles. With this set disappearing I hope we see some new ones in Sigmar's age some day. These aren't actually bad kits, and I hope to get some mileage out of the spare bits on some ogre bodies possibly.

Last, but not least, I started straying into some totally uncharted territory the other day. Super Dungeon Explore.

I should have taken more photos from various angles. I thought I did a decent job for my first SD Chibi figure. Not mind blowing Cool Mini submission quality, but decent. Daughter was happy with it. I may just suck it up and try painting a few more heroes.

...and that's not even showing off all the other stuff I started and didn't touch for a few days too....

Finally have the bulk of the Iron Blaster done for my Ogres now. Still have all kinds of crud that gets slapped all over the thing, but the main unit is actually complete.

What's ridiculous is how tiny that Cobra Kai karate dude looks in comparison to the blaster and its driver/ pilot.

Here's a bit closer view of him.

I tried to draw the logo and lettering on his gi. Doesn't show up too well on camera. He has a very derpy face too. Finished up the ninja next to him. I believe I still have a few figures from my KUNG FU MEGA MINI pack still.

I ended up giving the masked girl a metallic mask in the end.

I've got a bunch of weird stuff come in over the last few days. I'll be starting them once I finish up my current crop of Ogres!

What is it with you guys and speedily painting tons of awesome? The Ogres are looking great, as is Korhil, both flavours of dwarves, the Malifaux dude... The kung-fu guys don't do a lot for me, but I do like the freehand on that one guy's gi.

As for SoB, we've got... two or three missions left in Black Plague, and I made a pretty solid statement to my semi-regular group a couple of weeks ago about how I'd like to finish BP and then play more of a variety of things rather than just Zombicide (we still have Season 3 + expack and about a million DLC missions and a few more expansions and a ton more characters unopened). So hopefully SoB will make it into what I hope will become a rotation of different games.

Despite the business of this weekend (birthdays, japanese school beginning, various big events happening besides that) I managed to get some painting in!

Leaving the Ogres behind for the moment, and naturally ignoring models of significantly better quality, I busted open a RAFM USX Modern whatever starter set that had a SWAT team fighting Lovecraftian Deep Ones.

In the course of a day I had the SWAT primed, painted, washed, highlighted, and based. Take that Barzam and your neverending churn of completed models!

Hard to tell, but yeah, I highlighted every damned one of them. Did the eyes, eyebrows, straps, everything. Problem is they're all various shades of gray and black which means my camera tends to absorb them all together.

I'm happy with them. I figure I'll use them in a game of Fear & Faith, or Flying Lead one of these days. Need to get those Deep Ones started now.

Upon opening the box, I felt the guys were REALLY tall. Tall and gangly. Upon further inspection however, they aren't really that much taller than comparable figures. Here's a SWAT dude with an Elf, one of my KUNG FU guys who I imagine is supposed to be 28mm, and a Reaper Pathfinder Bones figure.

After painting Kohril last week, I think I might finally dip into my Island of Blood Elves and get started on them.

Speaking of get started on things that came in starter sets, I got the urge to paint up some of the Bloodbound guys from the Age of Sigmar box.

I most likely started them due to acquiring just about all of the individual Khorne heroes from Age of Sigmar- the Exalted Deathbringers, the Slaughterpriests... those guys. They're cool models. They needed some regular mooks to hang out with them though.

Obviously they have a lot of work ahead of them. An interesting note on my Bloodbound- I built half of them vanilla, as per the instructions, and then the other half got all cut up and swapped around. Different heads, weapons, and bits from other Chaos kits. The two guys on the left are definitely wielding weapons that were not originally included with them. Maybe from the Wrathmonger's box? Can't remember.

You'll notice there's a reddish blob in the background of those guys. It's my Witch Hunter I got started on!

He's not done yet, but he's coming along nicely. Always been a fan of Witch Hunters and Inquisitors. Bit of that Solomon Kane vibe going on with them.

Last but not least, here's some alien dudes I got in a swap from Barzam.

As is the case with him lately, they're all 15mm.

No thanks to Barzam's influence, I found myself placing an Alternative Armies order last night. Ended up getting a few of Loud Ninja's space raptors. Grabbed a Spec Ops squad, the Dino Mechsuits, a raptor tank, and some other Reptilian dragon spacemen that were in the catalog.

Might have to hit up Khurasan and grab some of his reptile guys as well!

I'm beginning to suspect that those Megaminis figures may actually be 25mm rather than 28. That ninja just seems really small.

Your SWAT guys came out looking really good. They were all single-piece casts, right? We really need to have a more modern game someday.

Your bugs turned out good as well. They seemed like they would paint up pretty quickly. We'll definitely need to play a 15mm game some time.

Those MegaMini guys ARE really small. I'd almost say they're 20mm or something.

Almost done with my Witch Hunter.

Did his fancy pants, his purity seal on his jacket, painted his zweihander and gear on his back too.

You can see his tools for the job. Still tempted to glue the other sword, gun, and scrolls on there as well.

What's crazy is just how large that Slaughterpriest is. He's HUGE. He's getting painted next while I try to finish up the first set of Bloodbound guys I stated.

Also started the first (and only one built so far) Varanguard. They're pretty large as well. Kind of surprised they are on the smaller ovals. I was expecting them to be on the bigger ovals like the Juggernauts are.

Pretty sick of painting gold trim on that guy though! Now it's time to go back and highlight all the black sections, give him a wash, and do all the horns and spikes that make him quite unpleasant to pick up.

Hopefully some of the 15mm stuff I ordered shows up soon....

What am I supposed to be painting this month? I've completely forgotten! Especially in light of the fact that we've got about a week to go!

Anyways... this weekend Barzam and I made our weekly pilgrimage to the game shop.

We ended up splitting the cost of a Imperial Knights: Renegade box set. We figured with our continued 15mm arms race that is occurring, we could have ourselves a slightly out of scale Epic game at that point.

I also ended up with a few poorly built and missing piece riddled Empire handgunners from another local store.

Why? I'm not sure. I think it's because I enjoyed painting that Witch Hunter, and wanted some dudes to hang with him. I grabbed that War priest during Miniature Market's last sale, along with a few other Avatars of War figures.Going to need to find a head for the guy in the front.

I also grabbed a guy to lead them all into battle-

Wait! Where'd that chicken general go? I guess the horse will lead them into battle then.

I started trying to do a bit of freehand on the horses' armor. Got the filigree on the white sections, now I need to go back and do the red cloth as well.

Since the coast is clear, and the threat of enemies is nonexistent, the foppish General makes his return.

"Ha ha!" he shouts from then saddle in his fantabulously bedazzled armor. "The Old World no longer exists, so I have nothing to fear!" he challenges out into the void.

So then this dude shows up.

Yeah, it's out of focus, but that's the end of our Empire buddy.

I really like that Empire kit. Will probably grab a spare foot body to go with the one I'm currently stuck deciding how I want to build it. I'm also wondering if the mounted general can sit on any old GW Empire horse- anyone know?

Varanguard came out nice. Took a while. I've got one of his BFF's horsey almost finished as well.

Will probably look better when it's in focus and put together. Will try to wrap him up this week, start/ finish the 3rd member of the unit by the end of the month (hopefully), and then it'll be on to new Orruks and Wrath of Kings!

Post by: highlord tamburlaine

Through the power of Slaughter, the Slaughterpriest (who will remain just outside of the camera's focus today) was able to resurrect the second Varanguard rider.

He's just about done. I forgot to put some gold trim in a few spots, including his other big huge pauldron, and I still need to paint his weapon.

Here he is with his empire buddy, who's had a tad bit more work done on him.

You can also get a good sense of size on these guys. They're huge compared to the average cavalrymen.

I'm curious if their bases are the same as all the regular "basic" cavalry figures. I know the juggernauts are actually on larger ones. I noticed the new Orruk pig things are on similarly sized bases as the Varanguard, and priced the same as well. If they're about the same size I'll probably get some.

Debating if I should candy stripe that Empire General's lance. In fact, I really don't know what I want to do with him next. Should I give him a cape? Should I attempt to write something on that scroll that clockwork skull baby is carrying? Should I give him a regular shield or the blinged out one with the raven perching on it? Can't decide!

I think he should be as blinged out and fabulous as you can make him. I hadn't noticed the skull-baby before. That thing is straight out of 40k.

So he needs a fancy cape doesn't he? Maybe with the twin- tailed comet on it? Filigree in the corners?

Candy striping that lance is going to be a pain in the ass.

That skull baby isn't 40k- it's got cogs and gears! It's a cool little bit, and yeah, it could totally find a home in 40k (and I'm sure it has).

Sadly I find myself wanting to paint Bretonnians now. Or at least some more Empire personalities.

I notice I haven't updated in a while. Oops.

Here is the final Varanguard model finished.

I liked how his blade turned out. I had been looking at old Jack Kirby 60s comics, and decided I'd put a bunch of Kirby Spots all along the blade. Not that you can see them here.

Here he is with his buddies, their unit complete! That armor was a pain to have to do all that gold on!

I finished up these three random Khorne guys while I was at it.

Can't remember what the first guy is- Wrathmonger? Skullreaper? Wrathskuller? I wish I had put him on a round base. Too late for that I guess. Middle dude is a Bloodbound type from the Sigmar starter, but I think he's had his arm and head replaced with other parts. Pretty sure that mace thing once belonged to the guy next to him.

Slaughterpriest on the end there is just a cool model. I really like that guy. Favorite of all the individual Khorne hero releases. Will probably grab the Deathbringer with the spear next, as he seems pretty comparable.

I also had made an order to Alternative Armies during Salute time, since it was free shipping to the US, and grabbed some random 15mm stuff.

Here are some reptilian space dudes that my primer RUINED. Just spewed gobs of slop all over them. Cleaned them off as best I could, but did not want to go and strip them, reprime them and all that, so I just sucked it up and started painting (and finishing) them. From a distance, they don't look bad. It's up close it's real noticeable.

Those are the 4 basic poses (and yeah, that one is huge for a 15mm guy). Here's the whole set, with a Mantic skeleton for size purposes. Also a MicroPanzer bug man I got done.

In addition to those guys, I picked up a set of 15mm Space Raptors. Ask Barzam their official name, as I don't know it.

That's a basic guy and one of their mech suits. The mech came with all sorts of weapon options, but I went with the stock picture ones. The primer absolutely ruined his other side, so I'm not going to bother photographing it. I may get some more of the suits to put other weapon options on. I also grabbed one of their grav tanks, but I need a flight stand for it. We'll show that off later.

For being ruined by your primer, your 15mm figures look really good. So, now that you've done a few, what do you think of the sxale? Would you buy more? We're going to have to try playing something with all of these tiny figures.

Nah, they're really rough looking. I didn't photograph the bad parts. I'll show you next time you're over.

I'm not sure how I feel about the scale. Considering the bulk of the 15mm stuff I own is larger than that, I don't know if it's even truly representative of the scale.

I think I prefer 28/32 whatever we want to call the current crop of stuff. I have a lot more available in that scale already, and by the time I get more of my Warpath and Deadzone stuff delivered, I'll have even more toys we can play with at that scale.

I wouldn't mind giving a simple ruleset a spin at 15mm though.

Within an evening, the Chuhuac were ready for deployment.

Hard to get a good picture of them. They're so tiny! The casting wasn't the greatest on them, and it was difficult to discern what was an actual part of them, what was miscast, and what was flash.

So we just went with it.

I noticed a few of them actually have different weapons upon closer inspection. One has a large shoulder mounted weapon (and seems to either be sitting on a rock or has a solid chunk of metal fused between his legs), some have assault rifles, and one has a squat barreled plasma weapon I'm assuming.

Here they are attacking an unsuspecting Skitarii.

In the end I'm pretty happy with them. I've almost finished my orange bug guys from MicroPanzer as well. One thing I'll say about the 15mm stuff is that I feel like I can get away with a lot less detail work than if I was doing something similar in 28-32mm stuff. Plus they're a lot easier to paint in large swaths of solid color.

Next up is going to be the Mission San Francisco Solano, as its due next week! After that- hopefully I can suck it up and get started on Archaon!

Started up on my Orruk Mega Boss.

Need to put all his trophies on his armor still, and keep on dirtying up his armor.

Also been starting up on a Lord Celestant I had.

The Mega Boss is big, but I still don't know about 60mm big. He takes up a lot of space, but as you can see, he's not all that much taller than a Stormcast.

Certainly wider though.

Points for both of them having equipped their tactical rocks. I've got an Exalted Deathbringer that I forgot to photograph who is also equipped with not only a tactical rock, but skulls and tentacles to go with it. Maybe tomorrow we'll photograph him.

Got my Mega Boss all finished up. Not that it looks much different than yesterday in the picture, but it is, I promise! Plus he's on a base now.

Not sure if it's just the lighting but you can't really make out the details of how the Bloodletter's head is hooked onto the armor. I might need to lighten up the ropes he's got there. I really like the figure. He is a big guy. I still think a 50mm base would have been a better fit, but he does spread out pretty well on that 60mm one.

The Lord Celestant he was hanging out with yesterday is coming along nicely as well.

I need to bring out the lightning bolt on his forehead more prominently. Also need to highlight his leg armor better. Can't really notice it in the photo.

Snapped a photo of that Exalted Deathbringer as well.

Despite how it looks, his topknot is a completely different color than his skin. His skin has a bluish tint to it, whereas the topknot itself is a more leather like color. Maybe I should lighten it up a bit as well.

Also managed to finish a few Bloodbound from the Age of Sigmar starter box. I've got quite a few more to go though!

Tomorrow is the Brookhurst bring n' buy, and hopefully I'll be coming home with some interesting goodies! My hope would be to clear enough clutter out to go home with a Star Drake, but I don't know if there will actually be enough of a demand for what I've got to offer. We shall certainly see...

You know what I haven't painted in a while?

Tyranids.

You know what kind of Tyranids I haven't painted in a while?

Big Tyranids.

Never tried a Hive Fleet Behemoth color scheme. Figure we'll go with that. I saw a really cool one on Dakka in fact, that I will shamelessly use as inspiration.
I do so love those big fleshy brains on the exterior of his shell. I wish the scything claws were a bit different than a Carnifex's. I may have to blow the remainder of my store credit on a Tyranids start collecting box at this rate.

The question is can I finish him before the Silver Tower arrives?

Nevermind that poor Deathwatch Overkill that hasn't even been unwrapped yet....

That's a big Tyranid. I don't recognize the model, though. What is it?

I know it's sloppy, we'll get it cleaned up eventually. Just time consuming...

Probably ought to paint those Void Hounds as well. One of the few Relic Knights pieces I still have unpainted. Surprised I've got most of them finished, to tell the truth...

Ah, that's why I don't recognize it-- I've been avoiding WH/40K stuff for a couple of years now. It's kind of neat to see a 'Nid quadruped.

Well, technically, I don't think the thing actually is a quadruped. Most Tyranids seem to have those hoofed feet like this guy has on his rear legs. The legs under the big scything claws end in what look like could be graspable claws- in fact the other version of the this kit can be built using front claws to pin down a terminator and rear up on top of it.

I'd love to see more fully upright large- scale Tyranids. They always seem to get their body mass distributed weirdly the bigger they get. I've always wanted a big tanky shield wall/ siege breaker type Tyranid, kind of modeled after the Carnifex body type.

Regardless, I've just about got all the stupid carapace wrapped up on this guy. On to his claws and highlighting the skin areas!

Here he is from the other side- got his big claws all highlighted, and started cleaning up the more sloppier blue spots.

Also have been wasting time working on these MicroPanzer 15mm bug guys.

It seems I've got quite a bit of interesting stuff showing up in the mail today and tomorrow. Should be fun to post!

The feathering can be a real pain and time consuming. I don't envy you painting those Tyranids. He's looking good though. Does it actually have eyes? It looks like it doesn't. I've found that Tyranids tend to look much better when they don't have eyes. They're much more sinister that way.

Bug men are looking good, too. I love how quick that scale is to paint up. It's a nice feeling when you can bang out a number of figures in an hour or so.

The Maleceptor does NOT have any eyes. Not that I can tell at least. That feathering certainly is a pain in the ass. Does make it look cool though. I love how the blue really stands out against the red and black.

It is nice being to get the bulk of the painting done quickly at 15mm, but I can't help myself and go back and mess with details.

Another weekend, another wad of stuff added to the existing pile of unpainted masses.

I blame Barzam for everything. I refuse to take responsibility for any of it!

The overwhelming bulk of my weekend was spent building models. Lots and lots of models. Why? I like building models. More than painting or playing even. I love gluing stuff together, putting pieces into place... I just can't help myself when it comes to unbuilt kits laying around.

Most of the time was spent going through my Shadows of Brimstone 1.5 box. 20 resin heroes, all with tiny connections, and some of the slipperiest resin I've dealt with in quite some time. I got crafty however, and after gluing them to their bases (after multiple attempts at gluing myself together), put all sorts of basing stuff on their, superglued the lot together, so at least there's a few more contact points with their legs, bases, and basing material. We'll get to see them later though, as they're all primed and will stay that way until I get back from Japan in July.

I did manage to do a bit of painting.

I got this Fighting Fungi Mushroom Wizard started:

He's pretty shrimpy. He's on a 30mm base, while his buddy behind him is on a 20mm square. Here they are with their buddy Archon, who received his tail from Prodos the other day.

That Archon is certainly a big fella, as those two mushrooms can attest to.

He also has a huge billowy cape that I finally figured out how to attach, so I'll prime him and start working on him when I get back from Japan as well. Prodos gave him a 60mm circle base, but there is no way that will hold this guy. His heels barely fit on it, nevermind the rest of his foot. I'm thinking I'll get a resin 80mm or 100mm base for him.

I started on some multi armed Khorne guys I made out of leftover Bloodbound parts.

My kids said it looked like I painted them with ketchup and mayo mixed together. It does look like a similar color consistency.

Also planning on starting on these two before I go.

I forget the knight's name, but he's from Valiant. He's also quite huge. More like 35mm than anything smaller. I have a mounted version of him as well, and his horse is truly gigantic. The dwarf is an Avatars of War dwarf, with guns and a pipe. At least he's not a vaping dwarf.

Also plan on starting these Wild West Exodus guys as hero upgrades for Shadows of Brimstone.

Wild Bill Hickok is on the left, next to him is a Shadows of Brimstone resin (male) Drifter class, then there's Bill the Boxer (Butcher?), and finally Pancho VIlla with his chaingun. I think Pancho Villa is supposed to have a pattern on his sombrero, but it was very difficult to see even before priming him.

I also have a massive pile of Orcs I'm trying to work through, to go with the shiny new Orruks I've been putting together.

Plus there's still my Knight from Renegade, which Barzam will not let me forget about, as well as Deathwatch Overkill and The Silver Tower...

What did I talk you into this time? Honestly, I forget.

It's nice to see that the Wild West Exodus figures do scale well with the Brimstone ones. How do the Malifaux ones stack up?

But yeah, finish your Knight. You only need to build and paint 1 thing to actually play the game. Come on!

You talked me into anything that got me a reproachful eye from the wife, naturally.

I was all set to put those dwarfs together, but it seems the world at large was more interested in them than me, and seeing as how we're probably going to get some rail passes while we're in Japan, I figure it's money that can be better spent on other things than toy soldiers. Would be cool to see Hokkaido and Kyoto, rather than just the Niigata countryside...

I'll see about getting that Knight started up on Wednesday.

I can probably take a picture of some Malifaux next to all the other figures, shouldn't be an issue. I'd imagine they line up pretty nice in height.

The Fighting Fungi was certainly a good campaign. I feel like I got my money's worth on that one.

I couldn't leave well enough alone, and started dabbling with the primed Brimstone resins.

The left guy is the male version of the Outlaw class, while the one on the right is the male version of the Orphan.

I painted them somewhat similar figuring the Orphan can grow up to be the bandit (even though the rules let them choose whatever class they want after achieving their goals).

Both need their guns finished, and the Orpahn needs his bandana done, but they both should be done before I have to go to Japan.

I wonder how many more I can fit in?

Doesn't help that after reading the new Deadzone rules the last few days, I felt myself inclined to finally build my Enforcers (and glue my fingers together repeatedly). Might get started on them now...

Orphan and Outlaw are done. They'll be showing up again this weekend with some more Brimstone buddies who are all suddenly getting painted.

So as I really try to digest the new Deadzone rules, I started tearing my house apart searching for some Enforcers. I couldn't find them anywhere! Plastic, restic, anything in between- all had disappeared!

After a thorough search, I did finally find them tucked in a box tucked in another box tucked in a bin tucked away in the corner of the garage. I promptly started working on them.

I started with the 5 man restic squad, which also matches up with the starting game squad in the new hardback rulebook. Coincidentally they also match up with my Tau suits. Filthy xeno sympathizers the GCPS is!

They're in need of a lot of touch up, and inking as well. Despite how it looks, they are actually all painted- that's not the stock restic.

I've also been going full steam on various Khorne units.

I'm happy with this guy. Just a generic Bloodbound from the Age of Sigmar starter.

My brothers in "arms." What a terrible pun. Still need to touch up the weapons, and detail all the spikey parts, but they're just about finished.

These are Skullreapers I believe? Fun figures.

Even more random Khorne stuff. Wrathmonger, Skullgrinder, Bloodbound... what a hodge podge assortment of nouns!

I really want to get another box of those Wrathmonger/ Skullreaper guys. So many fun and interesting parts in it! Need some on round bases anyways...

Seems pretty Khorney. How many Bloodbound do yiu have finished now? It seems like you painted a ton of them.

Enforcers definitely need some inking love. What made you go for an asymmetrical scheme?

Any work on that Knight yet? Or the sci-fi terrain you've got?

Yeah, all that Khorne stuff is pretty Khorney. No clue how many I've painted now. Probably half of them? Around 10?

Enforcers will get ink this weekend. They're asymmetrical because they hang with my Tau, and have matching patterning on their armor.

No knight work. Probably not til I'm back from Japan. Had hoped to do it Saturday, but I'm stuck doing our dad's job it seems, so I probably won't have time.

We'll see how Sunday pans out for me getting to spray the thing down with a metallic coat.

The Bloodbound Gang look pretty good just doing like they do on the Discovery Channel. (Killing wildebeest, right?). Love them.

The Enforcers look a bit off to me, but ink might fix them. It feels like they either need more yellow, or some other non-greyscale color on them for balance-- like red pectorals or something? Right now they look like some kind of Starfox villain that's lost one glowy bit.

Hopefully the color distinction is a bit better on the Enforcers now?

I still need to go back and highlight things, as they're even darker currently than they are in this picture. Damn my need to continually tinker with them!

I don't think I'll be able to finish up all the restic guys before June drops, as I went all in with the Sigmar starter's Bloodbound.

It may not be noticeable, but every single Bloodbound is totally unique at this point. Nobody matches. Sure, they are all techincally doubles of each other, but most if not all got simple conversions, mainly head and weapons swaps.

I picked up what is probably the last Forsaken box in my area this weekend, and with the intent of getting another box of Skullreaping Wrathmongers and the actual plastic Bloodbound kit, with the plan of smashing them all together in a glorious orgy of blood and chaos.

Back from vacation, recovering from jet lag and a million different problems that all seem to have sprung up in my absence...

I managed to get a single figure painted!

Picture is kind of chalky, but I'm happy with how she turned out. I gave up trying to paint the yellow eyes like she's supposed to have. Which is sad, as the weird eyes are what drew me to this character in the first place.

I painted all her little parasitic worm grub things around on the base- she's full of them like the guy from Blade of the Immortal, and can't die then.

Poots is such an anime nerd. Not sure what that says about me for seeing such an obvious homage.

Really fond of this figure and her design. I have a few of the other "classes" from Kingdom Death, so I hope to get started on painting them over the month of July.

Naturally when I go to order a Storm Knight pinup today as well for my birthday, Poots switches out figures for expansions again! Ugh. Hopefully that means next time figures show up, we'll see some more new stuff. Or an encore Visionary. I missed those.

Huzzah! Another birthday down, another year of inching ever closer to the big FORTY. I am officially OLD.

What better way to celebrate than painting up brand new toys? In that case, here's my latest Kingdom Death lady- the druid class!

I didn't do her hair as dark as the artwork, but I think it works. Irritated with the base- 3 different greens and it all looks the same. Those branch antler horns were super fiddly as well, but that's Kingdom Death for you.

Up next, a random Dark Elf Assassin from Avatars of War (or as they call them "Dread Elves.")

A fairly simple figure that was in far too many pieces that did not want to go together. I won in the end though!

I got a ridiculously large pile of Avatars of War figures recently for the price of 3 of them. The original owner had listed them incorrectly on eBay, so naturally I needed to help them rectify that situation. Expect a lot more Avatars stuff in the next few weeks.

Question now is what Kingdom Death stuff to do next? The black knight, a cleric, or something from the board game?

Post by: highlord tamburlaine

I don't think those Kingdom Death ladies are actually considered pinups, despite their (lack of) clothing. They were part of the generic fantasy class line of figures they've been making. I've got the cleric as well, and I know they've done a thief and mage as well.

As promised, I started working on the Black Knight. He has a while to go, but I'm sure he'll start showing up here soon enough. Before that though, I started working on the original survivors.

I need to fix the dude's eyebrows, but eh, they're good enough. The other two are almost finished. Just need to touch up their hair, and have some kind of light coming out of the lanterns.

In the meantime I finished up a couple of figures that have been sitting in front of me since I got home. Some from before we even left in fact.

I finally got my mushroom mage finished, who has been popping up in photos for a few months now. He got a spearmen friend while he was at it! I'm going to try and get some more of my Fighting Fungi finished before the inevitable evil dwarf campaign from Ganesha Games gets under way.

Here's another figure that's been sitting around my house for a LONG time. It's basically Death from the Darksiders 2 video game. I am somewhat satisfied with how he turned out. Tried to paint him more like the actual game colors, as his package is done in totally different colors, most likely to keep the company (Tale of War, in case you're curious) out of any kind of copyright trouble.

Despite how he looks, he is not a dwarf! He does have legs, despite how thick his leg armor is, plus the fact that he's kind of squatting makes him look a bit stumpy.

I'm giving some very serious consideration to picking up the other two related figures that Tale of War made. Problem is they aren't easy to come across.

Here is one of Avatar's of War's newer releases, the Knight of Drumminor. He has a pet birdie! He's almost done, I need to do some highlighting and wash a few spots. I have about six other Avatars of War figures almost done, so we'll be seeing a lot of them in the next few weeks.

Now for something REALLY different for me.

This is Hitech Miniatures' "Iron Giants Archfather: Proturbo." He's obviously Perturabo, primarch of the Iron Warriors. There's just so much surface detail on him, I'm trying to come to grips with how it will all com together.

And obivously since he's supposed to be a primarch, he's got to be very big. Still have a lot to do with him.

That's another Avatars of War figure next to him, on a 30mm base. I think I forgot to photograph her. Next time!

Did some more work on the Iron Warrior not- Primarch

It's hard to get him at a good angle. There's always something in the way or turned oddly.

Here's that Barbarian Chief/ Headhunter/ Chaos Maruader lady I did the other day. She really didn't photograph well. All the colors look too similar.

A few more random guys I got done the other day.

A Bones "Packrat." an Avatars of War Dwarf Engineer who also doesn't want to be photographed properly, and some sort of dwarf champion from Avatars who is also hitting the pipe pretty heavily there.

And now for something even more unrelated, I popped open the Sefadu box for Recon. I really like their bizarre helmets. I can't tell if they're wearing brown pants, or they have shorts on and that's bare skin. There's a few of them who are going shirtless as it is, so it's hard to discern.

Considering Sefadu are supposed to be based out of Africa, seemed appropriate to paint the civilians that were included with them similarly.

Here's fleeing lady civilian. Not sure where she's headed. Hot date perhaps? Overzealous fan chasing her? Dunno. I finished her up since I took this photo as well. For this she's just basic colors, no highlights or washing.

Here's captured middle management guy. Poor sap just can't get a break! This sculpt seems like one that could get a lot of use across a lot of game types...

Here's middle management guy held hostage by a bunch of 15mm bugmen that I finally got around to finishing, other than their bases.

Fun stuff! Say what you will about how Megacon has run their games, but there's no denying at the end of the day you get a lot of bang for your buck from them.

PRAUNS!!

Everything is looking good from what I can see. The added stripes on Perturabo really complete the look.

I'm pretty sure the Sefadu are supposed to be wearing shorts with bare legs. I painted mine to be wearing an undersuit, though. I think they just all around look better that way.

Another one done, another 10 added to the pile!

This is a Dragyri Fire Caste character from CMON's Dark Age. He's pretty funky. He's got this weird metallic armor that doesn't cover his entire body, and this crazy weird gold poncho. Hard to get a photo of him since he's twisting and turning in just about every direction. I believe he's supposed to be on a 50mm base, but I can't make up my mind what kind of base I want him to be on, so he's stuck on a 40mm base for now.

Also fininshed the other two Kingdom Death starting survivors.

The ink was really splotchy on their skin so they got cleaned up a bit after this photo.

Here they are with their buddies, all set to start a game finally!

Now to paint that lion so we can actually play...

In the meantime I see a forecast of mushrooms in the near future!

Those KD survivors are pretty fabulous looking for having no food, shelter, or semblance of language.

I'm looking forward to the Sefadu stuff too. Unfortunately there's been a bit of a fungus outbreak on my painting table.

I don't know if we're still doing the painting challenge, but for the rest of July I would like to finally wrap up all of my Fighting Fungi pledge from a year or two back.

First up, an armored spearmen, with a terrible mushroom painted on his shield.

Another spearmen, this time using the modular body Ganesha Games put out.

A mushroom bard/ drummer/ half time performer with the most phallic looking drumsticks I have ever seen. It took a lot of self control to keep the inner 13 year old inside me from painting them various shades of pink. Would have given that stupid grin on his face a whole new meaning. I love this figure. He has such a goofy look on his face, plus his instruments are growing out of his chest- he even has some on his rear end!

An enoki ranger. I like enoki, but they always get stuck in my teeth. I really like this model, as he's my favorite type of mushroom to eat (unless Ganesha make a shiitake at some point).

And the evil enoki cleric. All that growth on him is supposed to be some sort of evil fungus that taints the other fungi (Yo dawg, I heard you like fungus...)

This is a swamp lion fungus monster. I had hoped it would be bigger, but alas, it is just about the same size as all the others.

With this, I've finished up most of the smaller fungi. Now it's time to move on to the large pieces, and some of them really were quite large...

Can't seem to locate the Amazon, the Princess, and the Grasshopper cavalry unfortunately. Just about everything else was sprayed and accounted for.

Didn't get much painting done today. Had to deal with house stuff and kids' studies. But screw it, I'm on vacation and I'm a big boy, I'll do whatever the hell I want!

So I primed all the remaining Fighting Fungi pieces, except for the grasshopper which I can't seem to find.

While they were drying, I sucked it up and finished the male Prospector for Shadows of Brimstone while I waited.

I did paint both of his eyes, quite decently I might add, it just doesn't show in the photo. Neither does the patch on his pants. He's got a lot of charm to him. Much better detail than the plastic heroes, that's for sure, but with him being resin, that makes sense.

This monster of a... monster is from the Fighting Fungi range. I believe it's a "Spore Monster." They're supposed to be walking spore colonies that can grow more monsters as the battle progresses, if I remember correctly. Anyways, it's big, and it's a solid chunk of metal. He's not done, but he's started at least!

I also started seriously trying to work on my next Hitech Miniatures figure, Samael. I saw Battle Brush Studios' paint scheme and really liked it, and took their idea as a basis for mine. Obviously mine is nowhere near as good, or close to being finished, but it's a start. I think he reminds me of War from the Darksiders games, what with his billowy red hood, giant weapons, and oversized gauntlet.

You can see even with his base he's quite large, and when he gets his wings attached he'l be even bigger!

While he was drying and the kids were studying, I finally got this kit out and put it together.

This is one of Plastcrafts' precolored/ textured Malifaux buildings. A train stop I believe. I got it at the last Brookhurst bring & buy. I'm quite impressed with how sturdy and stable it is!

Had to give it a stress test to see just how much weight it could hold...

You can't even see the metal trollkin longriders behind the ogre blaster on the other side of the roof...

Very sturdy kit. Very impressed. Plus I got it for a good price, so I'm even more happy with it. Will certainly be on the lookout for more of these!

I'm really enjoying all the Fighting Fungi. They look like they are a lot of fun to paint.

That Plastcraft building is nifty. I have a couple of their Kensei buildings, but that train station is much, much nicer.

I'm tempted to get some of the Kensei stuff myself now.

That isn't the station either- this is just a train stop. The station is WAY BIGGER. Also pricier. All in good time though...

The Fungi have been a lot of... fun. They paint up really easily too unless you want to go way overboard on the detailing.

My biggest regret with that kickstarter is opting for a lot of the bigger stuff, whereas now that I have them all, I would have preferred getting less of the big stuff and more multiples of the smaller guys.

Hopefully Ganesha's next campaign in August will bring us more weird stuff, like they're Go Nagai inspired "Possessed" chaos dwarfs and their pets.

My table is overgrown with fungi.

The worm rider! I really wish I had gotten more of these cavalry types! He's awesome!

Here is his equally awesome friend, the Pillbug Rider! Pillbug rider is on a 40mm base by the way.

FUN FACT- the riders are all interchangeable between all the various mounts. Sadly my grasshopper mount is MIA.

One of my favorites, the puffball spore monster. Heck ,he doesn't need to be a fungi monster even- he looks like some sneaky little alien xeno mastermind!

In fact, they kind of are little masterminds, as they get launched into battle by their manservant, the mushrooman catapult-

The fungal catapult isn't finished yet, but he's getting there. He's big (on a 40mm base) and is a solid casting of metal.

Those puffball monsters can release spores, letting loose a shower of lesser sporelings!

There's a few more sporelings tucked away in my cabinets. All the little guys/ zombies/ spores/ sporelings are on square bases to properly rank up for Kings of War.

Figure they'd go good in a forces of nature army.

Tomorrow- even more mushrooms! We're getting there, slowly but surely!

Loving the fungi. The spore launcher and sporelings were favorites of mine.

The mushroom hunt continues on! A lot are done but still need basing of some sort. Probably just grass. Enough talk now!

First up are the giant mushroom Matanagar!

These things seem like they are obviously based on the old Toho Matango movie monster. They're actually slight variations of each other's colors.

Next up is the Flying Eye Fungus!

I need to go back around the eye with some black, but it's good enough for the moment. It's totally a mushroom beholder though. With wings. And mushrooms.

Another of the giant fungal monsters, this one painted up in angry avocado colors!

These 3 ladies are probably the least farthest along. One is a kickstarter exclusive, the other are dryads. The guys in the back are spore monster heavy infantry.

Here is the Vampire Mushroom! Why is he a vampire? What does he need for nourishment? I have no idea, but I love his ridiculous pose of jumping in the air trying to grab at his prey.

The mushroom king! Behold his majesty! He's quite big! He actually slice my thumb open when I first received him, as he was one big solid piece of metal with some really gnarly flash on him.

Rounding out my Mushroom pledge are these swamp spore monsters. That giant Cthulhu like monster in the back was one of the few multi piece figures in the line. He's quite heavy and clocks in at about 55mm tall. His face is also quite phallic. Obviously none of these guys are done. The two in the back are Rotting Heart Mushroom Masters. The Rotting Hearts were the undead faction in the Fighting Fungi rules and lore.

I'd have to double check what all of them do.

In non- mushroom news, I wrapped up Hitech's Samael figure.

He's called an "Archfather" in their line, which all seem to line up with the actual 40k Primarchs. No idea who it's supposed to be though. My first thought was Ahriman. He seems like a wizard type (even though also reminds me of War from Darksiders), but I really don't know who he's supposed to represent.

Here he is with another "Archfather" friend. This one is Vezuvion, who looks suspiciously like a certain Salamander's primarch...

Ain't much to look at yet, just being primed and all. I need a better green as I want something brighter, but all I have tends to run quite dark, and I'm too lazy to mix.

Once this is all wrapped I can finally get that Imperial Knight dealt with!

I've been having fun with the fungi. Down to the last few at this point, but I need a break from them.

So I painted the color red.

Lots of red.

Red basecoats for everything!

More red ogres! This time with red Dragon Ogres! I don't care if they're Chaos related or not, red ogres are red, no matter what.

At least they'll also fit in with all my Khorne Bloodbound guys with the overwhelming red choices.

Funny thing is that I got the bases MONTHS after the ogres, but finished the bases first. I got the ogres themselves back at the Brookhurst bring n' buy for a whopping 15, new in box. Nice!

Problem was I wanted to get them on Age of Sigmar bases and GW hadn't released the new bases to stores yet, and online resellers were expensive, so I went with an MDF manufacturer. They came out to be just about the same size as the GW bases too.

Here's a chaos lord's manticore that I got dirt cheap and has a variety of reds on him as well!

His head isn't glued yet so I could try to paint between his paws there. I think I'll do the wing membranes in black, and then darken up his fur. Maybe put spots. Not sure what to do with that yet.

This is not red. The carnifex and ravaner are, but they're in the background, and so's the warrior nids behind them.

Why is the white lion blue? I don't know. I really don't. Blue seemed appropriate. I know I've seen a design like that somewhere. Probably from Japan. Digimon maybe? Or the Megami Tensei games?

I'll probably lighten up the skin significantly, and then brighten the man up a bit with some light blue or blue-grey, and drybrush some white on that? Not sure...

I do know that I'm getting closer and closer to working on my Imperial Knight, and after that it'll be time for Archaon the Everchosen...

That is a veritable smorgasbord of red, I really like it as a colour choice on the Manticore...have been meaning to pick that mini up myself. I think it works on the Ogres as well, certainly makes them look suitably mean and angry.

And Archaon soon? Yes please! Have you constructed him yet? And if so, how was he to put together?

I enjoyed building Archaon. He's in manageable pieces at the moment, waiting for his chance to get painted. He's going to be quite a big kit when all is said and done. I'm debating about finding some extra materials to do his base with, as it is massive in and of itself, and I would prefer it to not be super empty.

When he gets painted though is anyone's guess. I still have to take care of that Imperial Knight! Sadly it didn't get primed as my daughter decided to go off the deep end this weekend and have a crazy meltdown. Not fun. What little hobby time I had was spent getting poked and stabbed by various Tyranid kits I was building.

I tried painting them by brush, but then I just said screw it, and ordered some red primer (along with a few more of those plast craft colored buildings). The nids are all big ones and take up too much space, so they've all been shelved til the primer gets here.

Forgive the background mess- the kids were playing with me and I wasn't allowed to clean up prior to finishing "the story" my daughter was telling with the figures there. In the meantime, mushrooms continue to get finished before I go back to work!

These two handsome chaps are "Rotting Heart Mushroom Masters" from Ganesha Game's Fighting Fungi line. They're quiet big compared to a regular shroom warrior, who is probably about the size of an average 28mm figure. They're both rotting aparrt and have worms coming out of their mouths! Fun!

This gentleman is a Skullgrinder. How does he grind skulls with a big smoking brick attached to a chain? You got me. He's been sitting on my table since he came out a few months ago, so I'm glad he's finished.

He does not photograph well due to his contorting position. Very dynamic figure in person. Irritating that like all the other Khorne character clampacks he is now offered in a bundle with other figures I already bought (Gorechosen). At the very least the one or two I don't have should be purchasable on the cheap once people start parting those suckers out.

Progress continues on Vulca... I mean Vezuvion. Screw the haters, I really like a lot of the Hitech figures. It is odd how some parts on them are overly detailed and others seem completely skipped. His hammer is very plain, especially compared to the other two guys' weapons I've done. He certainly is a big fella though.

One of these days I'm going to get me the GW finecast on with the spear and burning halo thing. I like that figure!

While Vulkan waits to get his paint sealed along with Samael, I started working on a few more of the hitech guys I have.

I don't remember his official name, but he totally looks like an inquisitor. Although with that paint scheme I guess he could be a Blood Angel or something too.

He's almost done, need to fix that skull on his base and add some details to all the shields hanging off him.

Then I started up on this not- Space Wolf guy.

He's got a ways to go still, but you get the idea. Now with the grey I chose it looks a bit darker than typical SW colors, but it also reminds me of the old Inquisitor model from way back when.

I loved that old Inquisitor figure.

Speaking of GW stuff, I actually started to seriously work on my Drycha! I bought it the day it came out, built it the same day, and it's sat around the house ever since. Well no more of that!

It's a decent start to it. The base is a little rough because I glued something else to it, and realized after the fact that it didn't belong there, so I had to scrape it off.

Last up is a Carnifex I salvaged from the consignment case a few weeks back.

It's a bit sloppy so far, and not done, but it's getting to a point I'm happy with. It will go good with my other big bug, whichever hive fleet they belong too...

*sniff*... Goodbye summer!

I said farewell to my freedom last night by finishing up another Hitech figure.

As usual with these guys he's got a million little things hanging off his armor which ends up making him look super busy. I don't think he looks as bad in person.

Also did one of the figures from the Bones 2 Kickstarter, the Pathfinder Iconic witch as my daughter said I haven't painted many girls lately.

Not sure why her face looks so fuzzy- it's quite sharp, especially when considering just how soft and mushy the details were on her face. Originaly she had white hair like the illustrations, but she looked like an old lady which neither mysefl nor daughter cared for- hence the blue anime hair.

Next up in a long standing tradition of figures who won't photograph well due to their pose is this Avatars of War gladiator.

The guy is all over the base (which is actually a 40mm circle, as he couldn't even fit on the included 25mm square one) and quite elaborately decked out. Too bad the lighting in my office in the middle of the night isn't the greatest, as it makes everything look the same color. I really enjoyed him. I wanted him as soon as I saw it on Avatar's website, which was probably around the time I was binge watching the Spartacus TV show.

Now alas, I must return to the working world for another ten months. Hopefully I can keep the painting up if the students don't drive me insane!

Man did I ever get sick of painting various shades of greens and browns for mushroom tones.

So instead this week with school starting I focused on nothing but flesh really.

And what has more flesh than Kingdom Death?

The impossible to photogrpah due to her crazy angle, the Twilight Witch! I'm also not 100% sure I got her lanterns all glued on correctly. At least they all fit somewhere on the model, and they're all painted.

Forgive the glossy finish and splotchy skin tones. Both will be getting smoothed over before she joins her other completed KD buddies on the shelf.

Next up, the Primal Huntress. She was a fun one to paint. Plus she was a fairly straightforward build.

Next is the pinup Silk Assassin. She was the most boring one of the lot I though. She's at least a decent enough figure to hit the table at some point at least.

I also got started on the Guild crew from the Malifaux starter.

They are in a very early development stage. Their bases are farther along than they are probably!

Also got Wild Bill Hickok from Wild West Exodus just about done.

Bill here's got a little old in the tooth and ended up with white hair. Damn historical accuracy! The ink wash also left him super glossy, so we'll have to remedy that.

Bill also brought along a friend, a female Outlaw hero from Shadows of Brimstone.

Despite the base size, the two are actually of a pretty similar height. Actually, so are the Malifaux figures. They'll be lovely in whatever homebrew weird west/ 19th century mixup we get around to playing...

I gotta stop posting stuff and taking photos in the middle of the night. Office is too danged dark!

First something totally random- a Twilight Knight!

Photo pisses me off how sloppy the colors look blended together, how rough the paint looks... ugh. She doesn't look that bad in person, I think, and my daughter likes her so that's a good enough vote for me!

Will get her deglossed and touched up while they all get stuck at Japanese school next Saturday!

Speaking of Kingdom Death, I think I've attempted to photograph the first painted Warrior of the Sun pinup.

Now granted, she's now dressed like Strider Hiryu instead of wearing practically nothing, but I've got the new plastic version to cheesecake- up at a later time and date.
Really tough to get a good photograph of her face. It's there! I painted her eyes even! Correctly!

Besides these two, I finished up two figures who have sat unfinished for a very long time.

This guy is finally done! His backside has gone unpainted since I first started him (right around the time as all my other Confrontation dwarfs). I couldn't stand his falling down pants so I never painted his rear. Well, I finally did it! Painted his boxes and can now call it a day on him. Will get his base grassed along with the dozen or so other figures waiting to get their bases finished.

Here's a Hell Dorado something or other Westerner (a sergeant perhaps?) who I got started on right away, repeatedly broke the gun arm of, and finally just said it and finish him up. He looks alright now. Makes me wonder if I should bother doing all his firearm equipped buddies at some point?

There's also a large pile of Bones stuff I painted, but the camera zoomed in too close and they look hideous. Will reshoot them in the light of day...

I like the James model as well. I swear I've seen a similarly posed photo/mini/painting somewhere else. Not sure where though.

Just about wrapped up with most of the Kingdom Death stuff I've head in front of me.

Got the intimacy couple just about finished.

Can't resist giving them all anime hair.

Got my Twilight Knight wrapped up as well.

Slopped my way through a handful of stuff from my Box o' Bones 2 as well. No closeups as I really just got the paint on as basic as I could.

From a distance flute girl looks like she has giant eyes. That's not the case! Barbarian on the end looked like such a pinhead prior to painting, but I'm happy with how he turned out in the end.

My Hitech Miniatures Librarian type guy in quasi- Terminator armor is almost finished as well.

Need to finish up his shields all over his body, and figure out what to do with his banner. Maybe just leave it plain? Dunno.

Other than that stuff I've been working on this past week, I spent most of Labor Day gluing stuff on Ogres.

It started pretty simple. Just a few extra shields on some recently acquired Ironguts, a few extra knives, stuff like that.

Then I started digging a bit deeper into my bits boxes, and started getting more funky...

Then I started dabbling with Tyranid armor...

And then it seems one acquired a bunch of Tau scraps...

And now it seems my Ogres have started to overtake my desk space. Got that Stonehorn I've had laying around built and started doing the base coats on its fur while I was busy gluing.

Sad thing is there's even more tucked away that need to get finished, so I think this is what I need to do for September!

I've been trying to keep pace with Barzam's nonstop painting speed, but it's quite difficult with work and little ones constantly interfering and wanting attention!

For starters, I keep pulling stuff out of the Bones 2 box of neverending plastic in the hopes of actually finishing some of it before the 3rd one arrives.

So here's a random elf and barbarian guy that both came out super glossy and are in dire need of a dull coat.

I also started painting a few of the Bugbears that were included in the box. In the middle is one of the first painted figures I ever did. I figured I would try to match the guys somewhat to him.

Most of my time has been spent getting those Ogres to a decent level of completion. I ran out of my Vallejo texture stuff I used for all their bases previously, and naturally I can't find the bottle I like online. I ended up just using sand and junk, and now it's just a matter of painting all that stuff.

Here's a few of the more completed ones.

What's funny is the ink doesn't gloss up on these guys. Maybe cause I go on so thick? Love having good and properly filthy ogres.

Here's my javelineer for Frostgrave, who needs a bit more work than the others.

As well as some of the funkier assorted guys.

Sadly due to peer pressure the Tau ogre has lost his angry tau launcher.

And here is everybody I need done by the end of the month!

Ironguts finished!

Also got my Brutal Effigy finished, after snapping off his little lantern weeks ago. Finally found the thing.

He's hanging out with one of the Neverborn form the Malifaux starter who I got wrapped up a while back, and they're both on some of the MicroArts bases I got from CMON a while back. Also a Stonehaven Gremlin/ Mysterious Stranger chillin' with them before they all head off to the mines of Brimstone.

Forgive the gloss- they'll get their dullcoat soon enough!

More Ogres finished!

Tyranid Armor Ogre

Turtle Armored Trumpeter Ogre

Tau Armor Ogre

Morghast blade possessed Ogre

Shoeless Ogre

Funny thing- every one of these guys was bought second hand, most with some serious funk in how they were built/ primed/ glued together going on. Some had huge gaps between pieces, and whatever glue the owner used did some seroius warping when the parts were bonded. The Morghast guy's base was completely destroyed trying to part him from it, as he originally wasn't wearing any shoes either. I just didn't bother with the guy with two hammers after that.

A lot of them had huge gaps where the hands and arms met. That's why there's a lot of shields and bits hiding those spots- didn't want to bother with green stuff for gravelly primed models.

All in all I'm pretty happy with how they turned out. Happy enough that I won an auction for an Ogre army from Mantic to go with these guys for nearly half off! So It looks like I'll be painting Ogres for a bit longer...

A question though- I have a box of stinky Ironguts still on sprues (due to the previous owner being a hardcore smoker it seems) that I am undecided on how I want to proceed with. Should I go hardcore converting on them? Slicing limbs to change positions, sanding down bits and greenstuffing the leftovers? I had the idea of giving two of them a giant weapon in each hand and making them something of an independent unit champion for Kings of War. Should I?

Grabbed the last few square based boxes of Ogres at the local store this weekend, along with some oval based Mournfangs.

Definitely got a bit of an Ogre habit going.

Got the last two shooty ogres (besides the Tau one) pretty much finished. Just need a few clumps of grass on their bases. Guy on the left was last seen with a boring flesh tone skin color, but that has been rectified.

Started working on the Stonehorn rider, but forgot to snap a picture.

Made some decent progress on my ninja maneater, and Throgg is slowly but surely getting acclimated to his new home in the Ogre Kingdoms.

One gripe I have with finecast is I sometimes can't tell what's excess material that needs to be trimmed, and what's not. There was a fair bit on Throgg still after I started painting him.

The ninja had an undiscovered until this morning bit between his foot and his knee, so I'll have to clear that out after work and touch up the paint there.

I also couldn't help myself and started building even more Ogres out of leftover bits.

'Da Champ

The Black Axeman

And the Prophet of the Great Maw, who will be my wizard figure for Frostgrave. He'll need an apprentice though, won't he...? Hmm....

I used a bunch of the hooks that came with the Stonehorn and plastered them all over this guy, so he can carry all his magical ingredients with him. Also snacks.

They also have a fairly mundane GW giant getting slapped with paint to join my Ogre army.

Hoping one weekend when the kids are at Japanese school all day I can actually play a game of Kings of War at the local store!

Ogres have continued to take over my painting area...

These guys are my goal for October. I think I can get through them all. I still have their giant buddy, a Stonehorn, and pack of Mournfangs to get through as well.

Here's a messed up Chaos Spawn ogre for Barzam as promised.

Besides Ogres, I've been trying to work through my Bones kickstarter pledge as well as whatever odds and ends have been plaguing me for long periods of time.

Got another Mousling done for my daughter.

An armored skeleton that seems to have been a follower of Menoth in a pervious life...

His sword was so badly warped no amount of heating and resetting would fix it, so finally I just cut it off and gave him a spare vampire counts blade.

A Kingdom Death Candy & Cola, minus Cola, who is MIA at the moment, and I just now realized that I didn't paint the handle of her soda bottle lantern...

Most of the Nephilim from the Malifaux Starter Set, minus Angel Eyes, who I was trying to decide on a color for...

And another Hitech figure I've been working on, Vampirion, who is most certainly not the Primarch of the Night Lords. Nope. No siree. Definitely not Konrad Curze.

That's also a Hitech navigator I believe, who is going to get lumped with all my Admech types from Hitech (as well as my GW proper Admech stuff, which I have a bit of, but not Barzam levels of ownership).

Work is steadily progressing on my Ogre Kingdom giant, and I've got a Firebelly coming to make a good and proper Elementalist for Frostgrave with him. Should have Throgg done later this week as well!

I'm honestly not sure if those seams are supposed to be there or not on Candy. Don't know, don't care really either. I guess I could darken them up and make them look like tights. Will have to do some googling to see how others have done it.

I told you that Ogre spawn was ridiculous. The way the guy's normal head and hands are just fits perfectly as well. Should I give him an extra arm? I debated about it, but couldn't make up my mind.

A few quick photos at the last moment before work.

Throgg is done, along with the Tyranid Maneater (Tyranideater?) and Tau Belcher.

Forgive the out of focus-ness.

My current horde of semi- painted Ogor Ogres.

I really can't help myself with these guys. Every one of them is unique, be it pose, gear, chopped up parts... it's a mess.

And a selection of their fully painted buddies who were within arms' reach.

I have a big pile of eBay bucks to waste, and I'm debating between a start collecting box of Seraphon or Mechanicus. Not sure which (or both possibly) I'll work on next. Also Vampire Counts will more than likely be picked up this weekend.

Wow!

It's been a while since I last updated. Then again all I've been doing is trying to finish around 2 dozen Ogres, and it doesn't help that I'm trying to make each one a special little snowflake.

Last time you saw them, they were all bare grey plastic.

Now they're all painted!

This picture is already out of date, as some of the guys in the front didn't have their bases completely finished at the time of photographing. That is no longer the case.

My Giant is FINALLY getting some paint on him. I didn't care for his butt cheeks hanging out, so I went ahead and put some actual pants on him underneath his loincloth. If you notice a lot of the weapon options he came with have ended up in the hands of his Ogre buddies.

This one in particular I am happy with how he turned out. Not that he's done yet...

Here's a selection of guys that weren't in the previous picture, but I finished up this week.

Keeping in mind that there's about a dozen Ogres still to be finished, I am making pretty decent progress through my red hordes. I did start working on a few other random figures, just for a chance to paint something other than shades of red, brown, and metallics.

The Giant's weapons turned out really good in the ogres' hands. You blended them in really well. How many ogres do you have left now?

I'm happy with how the giant weapon ogres turned out as well.

Off the top of my head, there's at least 11 or so Ogres in various stages of completeness. That's also not even counting any of the mounted guys- I have 4 more Mournfang riders that need starting.

My stonehorn mammoth thing is almost finished, the rider is done, but the saddle isn't started yet.

I'm starting to notice that Ogre parts are really starting to dry up both in stores as well as online. Bits sellers are starting to have very depleted stocks.

Hopefully GW do something soon with Ogre infantry. In a perfect world they'd just make a new sprue that would work with existing Ogres, but that probably isn't going to happen unfortunately.
To me that's one of the coolest aspects of the Ogres- literally all the plastic kits are cross compatible with each other which makes converting super easy.

So I tried to do something other than Ogres this weekend.

I finished my Aquila Guard! Finally! Over 50% of all my Infinity figures are painted now!

He was a challenge trying to copy Giraldez's style, but I'm happy with my results.

A floating Bones mage from the 2nd kickstarter, and a random Stygian warrior from Chronopia I found in a draw and finished.
Not sure what half of the stuff hanging off the mage is supposed to be, so I just painted it random colors and called it a day.

Another Hitech Miniatures figure. I love me some Polish miniatures it seems!

I'm guessing he's some sort of scribe or something? He'll go hang out with my HiTech Inquisitorial types, or maybe my AdMech ones.

I spent most of the weekend building HiTech AdMech types. Hopefully I can prime them and get started on them soon. More than likely though the next batch of stuff after the Ogres is going to be Trollbloods.

Haven't had much time to work on painting these last few weeks. Busy trying to get other creative endeavors moving.

Hasn't stopped me from at least starting some of the stuff I have laying around.

Needing a break from my ongoing red Ogre hoard (which has still been continuing on, and seems to have no end in sight) I paused the red paint factory to paint red paint on even smaller things.

Go figure.

These are the Garn from Khurasan Miniatures. They're 15mm guys, but they're pretty huge for their scale. I know Khurasan has a few 25mm ones available as well. Some of these are the older sculpts as well as the more T-Rex like recent ones.

Here's Hitech Miniatures' answer to Roboute Guilliman it seems. Minus the arms. And a head. And a base. It's also super gigantic, as the dude next to it is a 35mm scale Freeblades guy.

Yeesh. That thing didn't seem so huge when I saw it last. GIve it some kind of helmet or robot head and you've got a Space Marine TAG right there!

Those Garn are looking really good. We're going tohave to have a small scale throwdown someday.

The Garn incursion forces are growing. My first batch are done. Going to put a bit of grass on their bases still. The guys in the center are the older models Khurasan made, while the troops on the flanks are the newer models. Unfortunately I haven't painted any of the more dynamic poses yet. I also have a bad feeling I'll be acquiring more in the future.

Also started working on a few other random 15mm figures, and will probably have them posted later this week.

For whatever reason, I decided to paint my Wargames Exclusive "Greater Good" guys. Surprisngly they all ended up finished already. Nevermind the dozens of other unfinished pieces laying around, lets start three new ones and get them done in a day!

The Strike Master

The Sniper

The Veteran

The team with a GW Fire Warrior for size comparison.

While a little bit bigger than the average Tau, these guys look like they'd blend in pretty seamlessly. Definitely a fan of them, and will certainly be getting a few more. The Veteran is probably my favorite, due to how chewed up and cobbled together he is- he's missing an eye, and arm, his uniform is in tatters, everything is bolted and strapped together... fun stuff.

Started working on another Hitech Minis... mini guy.

Look how short that guy in the middle is! He's tiny! He's got to have a giant base to compensate for his lack of stature!

Should have him wrapped up in the next few days.

Started in on some more of the 15mm pile I've accumulated in no thanks due to Barzam.

Guy on the left is a Khurasan thingee I can't remember the name of, guy with the big gun on the right is actually a Spartan Planetfall Sorylian. Which is supposed to be 10mm.
That Pteranodon is also quite large for 15mm. Problem with that Sorylian guy is trying to figure out where his actual face is though! I can't discern where his actual features are and where the armor ends.

That guy is tiny. I wonder if they intentionally sculpted him to be so short. Maybe he's supposed to be a dwarf?

That Sorylian is big. For a 10mm figure, he's downright massive. It looks like Sorylians would work really well as 15mm miniatures. I'm guessing thekids are liking the tiny lizard and dinosaurs men?

I got all but 3 of my Sorylian infantry painted, based, and sealed this weekend. Pictures to prove it later tonight. Did about 20+ 15mm guys all told over the weekend.

Most of my free time this Sunday was spent putting these ladies together.

Dark Paladin ended up a favorite, and I wasn't too keen on her when I saw her in the shop. Pumpkin Knight I wanted last year and have no idea why I didn't get her.

Necromancer girl was quite a pain to put together. Those skeleton spirits were so flimsy!

Can't wait to start painting them. Not like I don't have plenty of other stuff to paint first...

So here's some of them photos I talked about.

Here's some of the basic(?) Sorylian infantry from Planetfall next to one of the larger guys they have as well.

Keeping in mind that these guys are supposed to be 10mm figures...

Here's some basic 15mm humans from Khurasan I'm working on standing with these 10mm dudes.

Sorylians must be seriously massive! They work perfectly at 15mm- so much so I want to pick up a infantry helix for more of them.

Speaking of other massive 15mm figures...

Don't remember what these guys are called, but they are also from Khurasan Miniatures. Look like pterodactyls that wear these funky nanomachine infused vests.

Again, that's a basic 15mm human hanging out with them.

Another Khurasan figure- their Dragonborn type line of fantasy figures. Forgot to paint his teeth though.

Finally, all the stuff I got finished over the weekend- some of these I have shown off before, but none of them were based/ sealed/ finished yet.

Lots of touch ups were involved as well.

Wow! Something that isn't an ogre or in 15mm!

Needed a break from the red horde. I've been working on a few things for the last few weeks, and finally got them to a point where I feel comfortable showing them off.

First up is the Trollbloods' newest warlock, Ragnor Skysplitter from the new battle box. Really like the model!

Will probably be using him in the next few weeks as a Frostgrave wizard if I can't get Doomshaper on his rock finished in time.

Speaking of Doomshaper, here's his Pyg attendant.

He still has some work to go on him, mostly his rocky stubble and lightening his skin tones with some highlights, as most of my Pygs are lighter skinned then their Trollkin counterparts.

The Whelp that goes on top of that giant scroll he's lugging around isn't finished yet. Hopefully by the weekend.

Next up is a Dragyri Greater Ice Elemental from Dark Age. With a new resin resculpt of it coming out soon, I figured it was high time I actually get this one painted. I'm going to go back over some of the areas with a few more light blues before all is said and done.

Seems like he'd make a good Frostgrave demon. Or a construct.

Not sure if I posted this Attendant Priest of Menoth before. He's not finished yet. Need to do some detail work on him still, but most of the base coats are done at least.

The plan is in the next couple of weeks to meet up with Dakka's Bob the Inquisitor for a few friendly games of Frostgrave, with Barzam probably there as well. Most likely I will be running Trollbloods, but if I get enough Menoth guys done I'll field them instead. We'll see how things play out!

If I do Trollbloods, I'm good to go. Got enough painted warlocks to use as wizards, plenty of Kriel warriors to use as various soldiers, and plenty of hero types to use as more specialist type roles.

Going to start some Scattergunners soon to cover my marksmen/ sharpshooters as well.

I got some Zombiesmith guys I want to use instead of Privateer's whelps, and I'll use those in lieu of warhounds.

Maybe we can get a game in this weekend? I can bust out some terrain.

Doomshaper and his attendant are coming along nicely! Got the whelp up on top of the attendant's scroll case base coated, now it's time to get all the details on the two of them finished.

Starting to block in colors for Hoarly there as well. Going to be a pain doing all the detail on his jacket robes.

Also started in on a Northkin Shaman I found a few weeks ago.

Not very far along yet, but progress is progress.

Also working on a few random 15mm guys.

Work has continued on Hoarluk. Most of the base colors are in place on his body. Started to try and paint his tartan, but it ain't going well.

Still need to do his staff at some point. At least the base is done and all that detailing on his armor.

His Pyg and whelp attendants are done though. I want to do a quick wash on the guy on the scroll and bring out his details.

I also dug out a Long Rider unit I started a very long time ago. I paid 12 dollars for 3 riders. Not a bad price, even though it's not a complete unit for WMH.

I've also started doing the base coats for the resculpted Rok.

In totally unrelated work, I dragged out a Bane Lord Tartarus I'd started and am going to attempt to finish.

Basically needs his armor detailed still.

Started layering on the blues for the Black Friday Twilight Ninja's ghi.

Such an average sized figure considering how many parts she's made out of!

And my first finished Kingdom Death survivor!

Got the Northkin Shaman finished up.

His eyes *are* painted. The angle certainly doesn't help. The back of his cape was fun to paint- it was very similar to Hoarluk's new armor.

Got a lot of progresson done on Rok. Should have him all wrapped up this week.

Need to wash over some of the details, and I want to lighten up all the rocky protrusions on him. They seem a little too dark for his complexion.

In keeping of the traditions of me painting really random stuff, here's a basilisk I helped my kid finish up.

And for totally random, I started up on Yobuko (formerly known as Akuma) from Ninja All-Stars.

Time to start adding in the shading and the details. The paint is very flat at the moment!
Not sure if his horns will stay white. Oni were supposed to have yellow horns after all...

Those trolls have definitely got some character to their sculpts. I just wish Privateer used better materials. Those mold lines on Rok's hands are horrible.

The trolls have always had character though!
The mold lines weren't that bad- I just didn't bother cleaning them up for some reason.

Interestingly enough, most of the trolls I've been building have all been resin lately with metal extremities.

Rok's head and axe were the only metal parts I believe.

The shaman's head and hands were metal.

Even weirder? The new Madrak seems to be a new blend of plastic with a metal arm. Detail seems good on him too. I'll show him off later.

Got Hoarluk DONE done, and started redoing one of the Northkin Firebreathers from the Trollbloods. I hate painting tartans. Not good at it. Don't have thin enough brushes to really do it correctly, and it certainly isn't made any easier considering every single one of the Trollbloods has them all billowing in the wind or draped all over them with tons of folds to contend with.

He's very much a work in progress, but I'm happy with the changes I've made. The Firebreathers are one of my favorite designs for the Trollbloods. You guys talk about sculpts with character, I think the whole unit of 'em takes the prize.

Now if I only knew where I actually put the rest of the unit...

More progress on that Firebreather.

Also have been working on finishing up this 15mm guy I found in a random clearance pack I split with Barzam. Micropanzer made it I believe?

He's a big guy for 15mm. Almost 20mm or so. Maybe a bit bigger.

Time for something totally random! Who is she? Why does she have 4 arms? What line did she come from? Why is she painted like she's a 90s X-Men character?

I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT ANY OF THAT.

Next SD figure is getting started- the Dragon Blade!

Highlording it up with Highlord Tamburlaine. 7/27 Creature Caster monsters! @ 2016/12/19 05:03:57

Post by: highlord tamburlaine

Well the next SD figure was not only started but finished.

Here he (?) is again- the Dragon Blade!

Happy with how he/it turned out. Still not sure what he is exactly. A kobold? A guy in a suit of armor? Really not sure.

Also got my Black Friday Ninja about 99% finished.

At least she looks somewhat close to the artwork. I'm satisfied with how she turned out.

Naturally after painting her it seems I missed a spot on her chin that needed to be better clipped off. Ugh.

And my first official painted Kingdom Death survivor, decked out in Dung Beetle gear and a stylish Manhunter hat, out protecting the womenfolk.

Camera is playing some interesting tricks with his armor. It's actually more blue like his blades, but really looks green in the photo. I did mix the two, but the blue is much more apparent in person.

Next up this week- Ahriman and stuff I can't show yet since it will spoil Barzam's gift...

I just wish I knew what that 4 armed lady was. She's a great Slaaneshi type though.

Barzam and I have been talking about playing this is not a test, so I started dragging out some of the Dark Age stuff I've picked up on the cheap to have suitably post apocalyptic looking figures.

The first finished one that isn't a Dragyri is John Woe here.

Not sure why this has so much light in it- I took the photo in the middle of the night and one of the ceiling fan bulbs went out as well. Odd.
I've always liked this guy though. Bunch of swords on him, buzzsaw arm, face is a tangled up mess of rags, all sorts of mismatched armor. Good stuff.

Also wrapped up this Hitech Admech guy. He's supposed to be a comms operator or something.

All I see is a dude plugging in his Ipad and using it to DJ with.

His music is so dope that Ahriman has returned from the warp, with no arms, to feel the groove!

Happy with my color choices for his robe and armor. As always Vallejo delivers a pretty close approximate! He should be getting his arms back shortly. Probably after I finish all the dangly bits on the front of his armor.

Up next is a lot of Trolls. I went back and redid Madrak's base while starting to work on the newest version of him.

This new figure was odd. The spear arm was metal, but the rest of him (including a quiver that's not glued on yet) were all this new type of plastic from Privateer. Not sure if I like it or not. Very clean for once. Details were sharp (despite my lighting obscuring them). Wishing as always I didn't start gluing stuff til after I got the body painted, what with the tartan and all the straps and stones on him.

The first of my Warders and a member of the Dhunian Knot. Or however you spell it.

Also found my other Firebreathers to finish off the unit. My hope is to use all my plastic Troll for Frostgrave. Probably use them as marksmen of some sort. Crossbows maybe due to the reload (taking another swig?).

Started putting a base coat on my Dung Beetle Knight as well, and working on the survivor wearing his gear. Not sure about her colors. Gotta have that anime hair on my survivors though!

The four armed woman is a Bride of Lilith from the Dravani faction of Aberrant Games' Rezolution. If I'm remembering right, the Dravani are alien vampire/demon things that got stuck on Earth and blended into humanity and control things from the shadows. The line is all over the place in terms of sculpts, with some, like the Brides of Lilith looking really good and others that look like total ass. Most of the CSO range looks terrible for instance, with weird gorilla looking proportions, melon heads, and mush faces.

New stuff here is looking good though. That Dark Age guy gives me a Voldo vibe for some reason. Ahriman is coming along nicely as well. With luck, I might evenstart my Thousand Sons this week as well.

Mr. Woe gives me Voldo vibes as well. Homeless Hobo Voldo.

Your description of the CFO line makes me want to check them out now!

I saw your Thousand Sons stuff sitting around all week. Heresy, I say! Plus you had I don't know how many other kits sitting there waiting to be built (as I eye my pile of sprues waiting to be cut in front of me)...

The Gundam kits? I built those. The only reason I haven't built my Thousand Sons is because I didn't have any glue.

You've seen some of the CSO figures. I bought a set of their better looking figures from Brookhurst. I have their sniper (his pics are in my gallery somewhere). You may also remember that frmale officer figure I almost bought that I said looked like a 90s Image character. There's actually a really nice looking Not-Deckard in the line. If you want to see how wonky most of them are, just search Ebay for Rezolution.

To continue with the Trollkin parade, I finally got around to painting up my Skinner.

Forgive the glossiness. Weather hasn't permitted me to head out and dull that Agrax down. Tried to paint a nice coonskin cap for him. Not entirely pleased with the results, but it'll suffice.

Hanging out with his Warder buddy in the ruins. Like all good Trolls, they're probably going about getting plastered.

That's the first Warder I ever finished too! He was a day one purchase as well, back in MKII when they were the tankiest of tanks.

Also hanging out in the ruins are a smattering of Frostgrave figures I've started to paint. Top are metals, bottom are plastics. I was hesitant to paint them due to all the layers of clothes they've got, but finally I caved and just started using whatever colors I was already using.

I got this guy yesterday. He's the Forgotten Marshal, from the Resurrectionists of Malifaux. He will most certainly be used in Shadows of Brimstone.

I really like his sculpt, considering how static he is. Originally I had used totally different colors on him and he looked like a Rebel Alliance official from Star Wars, so I tried to get the colors more in line with what he should be wearing.

His face though reminds me of Tom Hanks for some reason. Or maybe Clint Eastwood the way his eyes are squinting and he's got such a grimace on his face. I probably should grey up his hair a bit. Too dark right now.

Sadly haven't done much more with those Frostgrave proper guys.

I did however get a new wizard finished for it!

I want to do more with his base but he's pretty much done. Lighting certainly isn't helping.

Here's an Ogre huntsman or whatever he's called on his super gigantic base. I hate his base, but he was welding to it upon purchasing him, and he has refused to ever leave it.
I cleaned off the original paint and horrible primer the previous owner used, but you can still see traces of it on some spots even after I tried to sand the roughness out of it. At least he's just about done. Needs some highlights and touch up, and a victory black track around his base to finish him off.

My unit of warders is finally nearing completion. How many years have I owned them now? A few! Since their release I believe... one guy is missing due to me dropping him and his arm popping off and needing to be fixed after getting ran over by my office chair.

A man named Sue from Malifaux. Maybe I'll use him as a saloon girl/ piano man for Shadows of Brimstone.

One of the Ronin from the Viktorias' crew. My daughter seems to like her, but she did NOT want to glue together and you can see the botched attempts in her sleeves. Yuck. Daughter likes how she looks though.

Started in on one of the Hadross Pit Fighters for Wrath of Kings. This is such an awesome box! Barzam got it for me during the holidays. Funny enough, every sculpt is unique and there's at least 6 of them, whereas other Wrath of King boxes have 2 or 3 of the same sculpt. Odd. Plus they're all on 40mm bases, so I'm happy. A few more are started, but he's the farthest along.

A random Skaven Packmaster. Why did he survive the rat purging that occured over the holidays? Not sure, but he's here to motivate the leftover rats that escaped the eBay genocide I guess.

Been a while! Real life doesn't want me playing around with little plastic toy monsters.
you real life responsibilities!

Lot s of stuff almost finished, but they are in need of touch up and detail work.
Apologies for all the glossiness in the photos. Some of my blacks and greys are super shiny, and the agras earthshade I have isn't helping either as it's a gloss bottle.

Two of the eight or so Hadross Pit Fighters I got for the holidays.

A super glossy looking Shael Han Child, who is going to get folded into my Ogre army (as evidenced by his far too shiny red skin).

The first of my Pistoleros de Latigo from Malifaux, who will more than likely end up being another Brimstone proxy once he's done.

Another Ronin from the Viktorias crew finished.

The new Changeling model coming along nicely. My hope is to have a whole Tzeentch skirmish group done soon. They've got some sorcerer buddies and Tzaangors coming along soon as well.

Starting work on the Butcher.

As well as the King's Man.

My hope is to have the bulk of Kingdom Death painted in order to play it by the end of this month. Antelope is done, Lion needs a base, and other than the Phoenix not even getting started yet, everyone else is at the beginning stages of being painted.

Soon we will finally play the thing!

Great work on all these guys. A bottle or can of matt might be a savvy purchase to tone some of these guys down so the detail and work can be properly seen.

All these are most certainly getting blasted with multiple coats of matte sealant.

Problem is that's downstairs in the garage and I'm not. Weather over the last few weekends in Southern California hasn't been very agreeable to spraying outside either.

All told I've still got close to 40 or 50 glossy looking figures sitting on a shelf behind me as a makeshift staging area, waiting for their turn to get matted down. Shelf is getting crowded at the moment...

Which one is The Bride? Like, Kill Bill "The Bride?" Did you mean one of the Ronin girls from Malifaux?

I'm going to consider these two to be finished enough to be ready to actually play Kingdom Death now...

Now to start on some of the armor kits...

With part of the reason for my lack of painting and updating soon behind me, I'm hopeful as to actually get to play this game after all these months!

Somehow I was inspired to get things painted up over this weekend. Probably due to me being stuck at home waiting for various people to show up that never did for house repairs.

First up- some finished Frostgrave figures!

Some plastics waiting to get matted down...

Some metal guys waiting for a similar fate of a less glossy future...

Some plastics cultists in need of highlights and getting their bases painted.

An assortment of finished Malifaux ladies that'll probably get used in Shadows of Brimstone instead. Girl in the front is a perfect orphan stand in. The Viktoria in the back, not so sure, but she looks cool. Angel Eyes, the Neverborn sniper, I don't know where she'll get used. Maybe if we actually give Malifaux a try? Got enough painted stuff to run fully painted Guild and Neverborn crews at this point.

The Forsaken's Elijah from Dark Age. This figure just really jumped out to me. Low tech dude in a hitech faction who is incredibly awesome? Sign me up! He's still pretty early on, but I just really like him so that's why he's getting shown off.

Some more early works in progress.

A close to being finished Frostgrave plastic soldier, another Malifaux ronin, and a Raging Heroes lady who might have been a freebie. I'm going to paint her up to match my Dreamforge Valkir, but she's just getting started.

The remaining two Pistoleros de Latigo, who have no faces, bullets, or detail currently. Gotta get going on that!

My Witchling Handlers, who I'm noticing are suspiciously in Dante's Devil May Cry colors, complete with ornate swords and twin handguns. Hmmmmm....

FINALLY- my house is in a state of completeness again! After having FRUSTRATING plumbing issues for months on end, things finally seem to have been solved. Now to go after the warranty and plumbing companies that seemed to have caused the issues in the first place...

To celebrate I started working on some new stuff and finish up things I'd already started.

An Avatars of War Chaos Lord I got from Brookhurst a few years ago. It looks like a mess of color he. I thought he looked sharper in person. Not that he's finished yet.

Sameal Hopkins, from the Malifaux "The Torch and the Blade" crew of Sonia Crrid. Cool looking guy. He'll be a Brimstone hero soon enough.

The last of the Outcast Ronins that came with the Viktorias crew. Her skin on her legs came out really bad. Yuck. May need a few more layers of paint to smooth it over.

Nice to see all you Dakka people again this weekend!

Surprisingly I didn't end up purchasing much. Whoever gave me the sweet deal on those shooty Ogres, thanks! Much appreciated!

In addition to try to hawk all the stuff that I don't think I'll get around to painting any time soon, I did actually do some painting this weekend.

First I finished up two more Frostgrave guys I'd already started- a 2 handed swordsman (templar?) and an archer:

Archer still needs his base done.

I tried painting up a Shadows of Brimstone bandit from the Frontier Town expansion. There is no discernible face on the guy whatsoever. None at all.

We'll get that glossiness down once the weather can stay stable enough to spray outside again. Need to polish up his boots as well as do his base.

I've also been working on a Tara crew from Malifaux, who will also be go to proxies for Brimstone.

Her original sword was broken before I even opened the package. A shame, but then again, it's super long and weird. I think her new one was originally a Genestealer or Daemonette's claw. I need to do more with her base before she's "finished."

Another random plastic figure- The Dragonslayer, a Goritsi specialist from Wrath of Kings.

After picking up Gorechosen last week, and finally getting a chance to play it this weekend, I felt it was time to get some of my Chaos forces painted up.

First up is an Avatars of War Chaos Champion, who I really like. Guy has lots of fun details all over him. 3 extra swords, skulls everywhere, spikey bits, horns... dude has it all!

The Aspiring Deathbringer from Gorechosen actually seeing some serious progress by the weekend.

Here's the Slaughterpriest as well, who isn't as far along as the Deathbringer, but is looking a bit better regardless.

Here's the Skullgrinder and Exalted Deathbringer from the game as well for reference.

Gotta say, the game really was pretty fun. Some incredibly wild dice rolls, lots of yelling and teasing, and very easy to turn into a drinking game (take a shot for every critical injury?). Hope to finish up the Slaughterpriest and Deathbringer by Saturday so we can play next weekend. Of course that depends on if the moisture in the air can clear out long enough for me to spray things.

...aaand all those Gorechosen guys are based and done now!

I'll try to get a picture after they all get a matte spray. We'll probably end up playing again this weekend.

Continuing to plug away at a lot of half started projects. Doing some serious cleaning of my unfinished hobby projects, as well as stuff that's sitting around gathering dust.

I started in on this slayer that came from Bob the Inquisitor's collection, but I don't know what type of Slayer he is? Or is he a berserker? I have no idea, and can't seem to find him in any old Citadel catalogs.
I also ended up painting him with pants, but his butt cheeks are so well defined I'm guessing he's probably supposed to be a Skyclad berserker, as he's got a rune suspiciously hanging in front of his junk. He also has a rat hanging off his back. No idea what that's all about.

Going to do his eyes, some highlights, and a wash to his hair, and then it's time to base him.

Not sure about the axe handle color choice. Should I keep the off- white? Black? Red?

A Menoth caster that I absolutely was unhappy with for a very long time, and couldn't get him to work with the color scheme my Menoth stuff is in. I'm satisfied with the results for now. Still needs more work.

The Boxer, one of the first Wild West Exodus resin figures I ever purchased. Who promptly sat in a drawer for the last year or so.
I will be darkening his hair to make him a bit more like Daniel Day Lewis ala Gangs of New York. Also need to do his bow tie and a few more finishing touches.

Finished up Elijah from the Dark Age Forsaken faction. Still really like this guy.

Starting on Bendahrin Durshe, the Salt Flat Nomads leader from the Dark Age Outcasts faction. Very early work so far.

So I bought that Lord Aquilor guy on his griffon thingee, and rather than actually sit down and paint him, I went back and got started on my Age of Sigmar starter set.

Liberators and the Lord Celestant started, all in various stages of painting.

The starter set Paladins that I began working on at the same time are a bit farther along than the others. I really like all the gold trim on them!

Even got started on the Celestant Prime I picked up a few weeks back. For 25 dollars he was hard to pass up, even if the previous owner didn't bother basing it nicely or leaving the wings off to paint first. Slowly but surely he will get done!

That red ogre guy is Warchild from Shael Han's faction in Wrath of Kings.
He's almost done at this point, but that glossy agrax doesn't help.

Also started in on that Necron guy who came in the start collecting box.

I don't own the SC box though.

Also a random plastic Wild West Exodus merc that I don't know the name of!

And the Stormcast Eternals march ever towards completion!

Everyone needs some touch up and highlights but they're all set to be sealed and matted.

Really happy with how the Paladins turned out. The non- gold parts help highlight all their bling. I may have to go grab a box of the multipart ones now.
The unit leader especially looks pretty rocking.

The Lord Celestant and his Dracoth are getting closer to being done too. Got their base finished, most of the base colors, some washes done, and now it's time to go back and finish up with all the details.

With these guys soon to be finished, I just need to finish up the flying unit and I'll have all the Stormcast starter figures completed. Then it's just the Bloodbound heroes and I'll have the entire box finished.

...wait, no I won't- Barzam still has the Blood Warriors from the starter he wanted to try painting. Snap to it man! Where's those Titan Forge demons while we're at it? Or those Menoth guys with the 2 handed swords? Weren't we supposed to swap something or other?

Time for more random Frostgrave soldiers too!

I've got a bunch of cultists that are getting close to completion too. Time to actually play the dang game, huh?

Also got back to work on Nekima from Malifaux. I started her months ago, and she's sat with no progress since. That's changing as of this weekend!

This weekend was certainly unproductive.

The bulk of Saturday was spent helping my wife deal with visa status, and Sunday ended up having me come down with some sort of virus and going to see Skull Island with the son, so there wasn't much time to actually get any hobby stuff done.

Couple with the fact that I had a bunch of orders all get rescheduled for delivery today, it was quite annoying!

I did manage to build just about every Malifaux kit I've had hanging around.

Key there is just about every one of them- there were actually more in the process of getting glued that didn't have bases yet.

I used a bunch of credit I had at the local game store and ended up getting some Paladins and Raptors for my Stormcast Eternals as well.

Naturally nobody in the unit actually has a matching weapon. Couldn't help myself there...

Also put Cypher together, and started painting one of the many random Forsaken I had sitting around.

I should have photos of my soon to arrive desert village up tomorrow!

That's actually just a skull. He's got skeleton arms from the cultist sprue as well.

Guy with the crappy death kanji has the skull mask that's part of the helmet.

Maybe there's another part I missed? I know there's some zombie heads too. I wonder how Mantic's undead would stack up compatibility wise? Hmm...

Cultists will be there.

While working on them, I also have been using whatever leftover paint to work on these Hitech Minis Admech types.

Somehow, they're the only Hitech admech guys I have left. I'm missing at least 3 others that I thought I had. Maybe they got tossed or traded? I don't know.

They're lost somewhere along with 2 squads of Wild West Exodus guys and a few mercs that went with them.

Also started a Knight Questor and worked on my Paladins while having too much paint poured out for the other Stormcast.

Between waiting for what seemed like forever for 3 banh mi, the longest game of Gorechosen I've played yet, and doing my taxes, didn't leave a whole lot of time for hobbying this weekend.

Seriously, the game of Gorechosen we played this weekend lasted almost an hour and a half! Last time everyone was dead in close to 45 minutes. Surprising. Maybe due to more players?

Dunno.

In my ongoing efforts to find surrogate figures for Shadows of Brimstone, I picked up BIG JAKE from Malifaux to use in lieu of the Indian tracker.

Not a great pic, but I did manage to get his face done nicely. Hat makes it difficult to see. I had done a wash on him, it came out way too dark, so I'm starting over on the skin. I'll show him finished later on.

I also started (and just about finished) an Arcanist Gunsmith from Malifaux, to use as a female Gunslinger for Shadows of Brimstone.

Again, another character who has their face completely obscured by their hat. Her saber has got to be one of the thinnest Malifaux bits I've glued/ painted in a while.

Also speaking of Malifaux, BobtheInquisitor had asked about the size of Void Wretches. Here's some with a Empire Free Company guy made out of leftover bits.

So yeah, as you can see, they aren't that tiny.

Finished up that Necron Overlord I had from a while back as well.

Going to be putting together a Necron Kill Team/ Strike Force for that new Shadow War game. Always wanted Necrons, but didn't want a whole army of them.

With all the dwarf love going on Dakka lately, I decided to bust out my remaining Fyreslayers. I had a bunch, but sold them off for a very respectable offer. These two are all that remain- of the unpainted ones that is.

The Berserker hero with the big axe seems to be missing the back of it. Will have to have the hobby shop get in touch with the previous owner and see if he can help track it down, or if I can ask GW for a replacement for that single piece.

Makes me want to get the Silver Tower guy out now as well!

Next time I promise I won't take photos when it's pitch black and I forget to set my flash on the camera though! Honest!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also built up some of the Frostgrave Barbarians, and I have to say, they are probably the best of the various Frostgrave plastics yet.

Very crisp, lots of character, and much like all the other pieces so far, they're totally interchangeable.

Couldn't resist one more late night photo.

Tuco and one of the Viktorias from Malifaux. Shame you can't see either of their faces, as they both have them painted!

Can't really tell from the photo, but Tuco's got a nice purple skin I'm happy with. He is supposed to be a Nephilim after all, given his horns and super long legs that just don't quit.

Debating if Barzam should tangle with a Malifaux crew for Frostgrave this weekend, or stick to all the hobos and cultists in their rags and furs.

Started trying to finish basing about a dozen figures. It'll be nice getting them done and out of the way- and making room for the Flash Gitz and Necrons that are arriving soon for the Shadow War Armageddon I'm going to get painted up.

The void wretches don't look quite as big as I was hoping but I am a huge Tremors 2 fan, so I'll keep pining. You've also sold me on the Frostgrave Barbarians. They even have a Conan head from the first movie, when he still wore a full outfit

The Necron overlord paint job really caught my attention, and not just because of his glowing crotchbulb (although I did notice). Really makes me want to dig out the oldcrons. I can't really tell what's going on with the Slayers' black/unpainted accessories, but the gold sure is shiny and the beards beardy. Also glad to see the Empire Militia getting some love.

Did Tucco shoot the buttons off her blouse? How rude.

You're just not going to be satisfied until you finish with BIG JAKE.

BIG JAKE is done. When he'll get to see action on the table, that's a question best left unanswered.

(I can't find my mini Malifaux rulebook sadly)

I did manage to get some more stuff ready to spray.

The Hooded Rider, who really needs a bigger sword (as the metal one's sword is almost as long as the horse's body) is pretty much ready to go hang out with my other cultists and Neverborn.

Some Witchling Stalkers from Malifaux's Guild, who look like colorless blobs here sadly. They aren't, honest! They remind me of those little robed guys in the Phantasm movies. Or Jawas. Or both...?

And just about all my outstanding Stormcast Eternals (minus the flying wizard supreme guy) are all done!

The Knight Questor has a different base because all my board game pieces get their bases painted differently. I have no explanation as to why that happens.

Once my brain recovers from driving nonstop across Southern California these last few days, its off to build Flash Gitz and Necrons!

Nah, went up the coast and enjoyed the beaches. Kids haven't been anywhere north of LA that I can recall taking them. Stayed up in Santa Barbara at a nice place real close to the beach.
The drive home was an absolute slog through just about every freeway on a quest to find a spot that was going more than 20mph.

I'm quite happy with my Stormcast. I might even try playing an Age of Sigmar game now.

So after a few days of vacation, that naturally were spent doing more work than I usually do, I did manage to squeeze some painting in.

I decided to paint something totally outside of my comfort zone. I did some Wild West Exodus Warrior Nation Braves!

Now granted, they still need some work done- especially on the feather and their weapons. I also need to fix up the war paint on a few of their faces.
I know they don't match up to any actual tribe's colors (as far as I know at least) but I think they turned out decent. I'm going to have to find a use for them now.
Turns out I also have the other 5 hand to hand guys that came on their sprue. Will paint them up later though.

One thing is for sure- I really enjoy building those Wargames Factory designed sprues, where each figure is made out of at least 9 or 10 pieces each!

I also am nearing completion on a few more Frostgrave soldiers.

Dude in the middle just got started, while the other two needs some highlights on them and their bases, and they're good to go die in the city.

Here's some of the new plastic Frostgrave barbarians all painted up, Still need to finish up their bases.

On the left is "Skyrim Dovahkiin guy" and "The Baron" who is giving off some serious Into the Badlands vibes if you see his face clearly.
Will probably slap some icon or other on Dovahkiin's shield.

Ahnold the Achaa and "It's not a Tumor" guy with a giant growth on his head. Maybe it's a miscast? There's a HUGE lump on his face above his eyebrows. I need to paint it to make it more prominent.

Hopefully they all fair better this coming Saturday than my last warband. No more witches, that's for sure...

Don't think I've shown this off yet, but it's an Invincible from Infinity I've been starting to paint.

Almost finished up Taelor from the Viktorias crew, and yet another Abomination from Malifaux. One more Abomination to go, and then it's time for Necropunks and other assorted weirdness.

Also going to get my Necrons for Shadow War set up.

Did you freehand the green markings on the Infinity guy? That is one sharp paint job. Really draws the eye to his chest and thighs.

The abomination and barbarians look like a ton of fun. The braves sadly look more at home on Cinemax than a battlefield...unless love is the battlefield.

Santa Barbara sounds fun. Sorry to hear about the traffic. Have you been to Carbon Canyon Regional Park, off the 57? That's my wife's new favorite local nature spot. It's very pretty.

Anyway, since you've been showing off Malifaux minis, I went and look at their website and found out they have a lot of excellent Ten Thunders minis destined to get me into trouble. So, thanks a lot, but also "thanks" a "lot".

Here's one with a Necron I just started.

So yeah, gotta get some Necron started for Shadow War.

Working on some of the specops for 'em

But then I couldn't help myself and started gluing stuff together randomly.

I know, it's an affront to the C'tan. I don't know why I did it.
We also made him a pet out of leftover parts!

We made some progress on the Lychguard models for Shadow War's Kill Team...

And the Praetorians as well.

Still need to do some washes and shading on them before they go off to kill whatever Barzam plans to send at me.

Also got some Guild Wardens done for Malifaux, and have continued plugging away at this Hitech Techpriest type guy.

Sad thing is there's all sorts of different shades of silvers on these things. I'll try to retake some photos of them after I do their bases. The one with the cape is really giving me Doctor Doom vibes now that he's got the green cape....

The more I read these Shadow War rules, the more I think I need to put together some Tyranids. Those things are MONSTERS in this game!

Finally finished up this scribe/ savant type Inquisitorial guy!

And he's all ready to go to school today!

Need to go back over a couple spots and get the shine off of him. Maybe he can see some use in Shadow War?

Also have three more Malifaux figures that are coming along nicely.

That's Hans on the left, who is looking mighty gigantic, even moreso due to how high he is on his base, Rusty Alyce, and the Scion of the Void with his four arms and wings.

Either Alyce is short or the other two are really big. Gonna have to do a lineup with them...

For whatever reason we had Friday off from school yesterday, which hasn't happened in the 15 years or so I've been teaching in this school district.

Not that I'm going to complain about getting an extra day off...

I did manage to finish up a few painting projects, or get them just about completed.

First up is Cypher, who I'm not sure if I want to keep all the skulls on his armor in brass or do them in white like the official art. Otherwise he's good enough to be finished.

Next up is the impossible to photograph Kharn. I like the new version, but man is he in a weird position. I wish he was a little less hunched over.

A super zoomed in look at my Frostgrave Soldier Captain. He's made with the bonus parts from the last Nickstarter campaign along with a Barbarian soldier body and bits.

I started working on Hayreddin from Malifaux as well. Something about a devil with a shotgun I like.

Some guild hounds that I plan to take in Frostgrave. Last time I was using the dog thingees from Deadzone. At least these look like war hounds more than those furless monsters!
They still need a bit of work.

Rusty Alyce continues to move along steadily. Her boss Levitius is getting into presentable shape as well.

The hope is that with all these Malifaux figures done I'll have a lot of stuff ready for when the rest of Shadows of Brimstone arrives.

Plus, I'm about at the point where I may run a Malifaux- inspired Frostgrave warband. Especially once all those new Plastcraft Malifaux buildings get released...

Rusty Alyce isn't much of a hech(wo)men if she doesn't have a master to work with.

Enter Leviticus!

Leviticus is close to being done. He's accompanied by the last of his abominations, who obviously needed a chainsaw blade in his forehead because having 4 arms with them attached wasn't enough. Obviously.

All that's left from his crew are the waifus... I mean the waifs. Soon!

I've also got my Mounted Guards from Malifaux's guild almost finished.

Boy Guard

Girl Guard

Both are in pretty dynamic sculpts, with parts going off in just about every direction. These are the first horses I've painted in a LOOOOOOOONG time. Actual horses, that is. Not weird mutant ones with extra limbs or unnatural parts.

Also started working on the Bloodbound from the Shadows over Hammerhall box.

I have a few more that are getting close to completion.

Here's two more random models that are looking a bit more presentable.

That crocodile is one of the bigger jumbo Krokodar from Darklands. The lady is a work in progress of a plastic Wild West Exodus lady we had planned to use as a Saloon Girl in Shadows of Brimstone. She's already 32mm tall, and on a gigantic base. Her buddy there is supposed to be on an 80mm base.

There's something about that Rusty Alyce figure I really like. The horses turned out really well. If you can believe it, I've yet to actually paint one. What's up with the Krokodar though? It looks like it has a big "M" on its groin.

That crocodile has big huge gashes and scars in his hide.

The camera does make it look like an M, but the cuts actually aren't that close to each other.

I'm happy with my horsies as well. I asked our family equestrian expert for a bit of help to figure out how to get the coats right. I'll have to show them to her later on to make sure they pass her muster.

Continuing through the Breach on the road to Malifaux, I finally got a hold of the alternate Barbaros sculpt, and for less than what Wyrd was charging during their sale.

I really need to fix that root on the base. At first I thought it was a tentacle coming out of the floorboards, then I realized it was part of whatever plants are creeping out of the base. Need to put some brass on that armor and do the claws on his wings as well. Nails in the base as well.

Also started working on the Guild's Master Queeg.

A Necropunk hanging out with a slapped together Necron, who was going to be my Shadow War unit leader until I got a box of Immortals/ Deathmarks. I do own some Immortals, but they were already painted by someone else, and quite nicely, so I didn't bother stripping them.

Both need some more work. Necropunk will get some metallics on him at the same time as the others.

I have a strange desire to make a close combat Necron with those combat blades strapped to his arms for use as a fresh recruit...

I'm afraid I'm going to have to actually play Malifaux at the rate at which I complete painting these models.

Whether they're painted to any sort of standard is entirely debatable, but at least they're painted!

I am trying to finish off Leviticus' crew, and the last models to deal with are the hollow waifs.

There's a third one not picture, but I'm thinking I'm going to get their skins to a more greyish tone eventually instead of an undead looking yellowish- green.
Not entirely sold on their clothing colors either. Their boots at least will get repainted.

Here's the Purifying Flame. Forget which crew it came with. Either Sonia's or Lady Justice. Too lazy to check. Still need to highlight the actual skeleton a bit more and finish the base.

A bit more relatable to Dakka. I actually painted Inquisitor Greyfax! She turned out alright I guess.

I saved the best for last though- a Low Life Miniatures figure!

Glonkle Snell, the snail farmer! Dude is awesome! I think I am in serious need of some more Low Life figures. I have his female companion too, but she didn't get primed in the same batch as Glonkle here.

We'll finish his base tonight. Maybe start his lady friend as well...

Barzam is to blame for this guy.

He actually looks like he'd fit in pretty well with the Fighting Fungi guys from Ganesha Games...

Trying to finish up a bunch of outstanding unfinished projects on the table to make room for the new sky dwarfs.

Flowing River of the Wayward Eight from Wild West Exodus. Most of the base coating done, time for highlights and touch up.

Finally figured out a solution to the Pale Rider's base for Malifaux. The horse is standing on only one hoof, and has its other hind leg just barely up off the ground. Easiest solution seemed to be having him trample over something. I had a few leftover pieces of Renedra fencing, so I smashed some up and made it look like the horse is smashing its way through its surroundings, which seems pretty fitting as the thing is rearing up.

Only thing I don't like about the Pale Rider is the Rider himself. He seems too tiny. He's in scale to his mount, and the mount looks in scale with the other Malifaux horses, but next to each other he does come off as a bit small.

Almost done with Pandora from Malifaux, and started working on a KnuckleDuster 32mm School Marm. I love how disapproving of everything she looks.

"You can't go out dressed like that, young lady!"

"But moooooooooommmm.... whatEVER"

Oh man, that school marm. She's going to be giving everyone that judgmental stare.

You make everything look so good. I ended up spending way too long with the Malifaux catalogue adding items to my wishlist after seeing your pics.
