Brimstone is awesome! You totally should open it.

We took all the painted stuff for a spin the other day. Fun times, other than constant ambushes and Barzam not pulling his weight in combat with his Pianee Player.

Finished up that Runesmith Fyreslayer guy, and painted up the Kickstarter exclusive Weremole that Ganesha games did for their Hammer and Forge supplement.

Need to give him a proper base (as that's a Privateer loner one), and also have the other guy on foot that came with the Fyreslayer lizard. Should get him done soon as well.

Besides a ridiculously large pile of half finished Ogres...

The Ogres are slowly coming together.

I used what little free time I had over the past few days to get them to this point.

Some are a little farther along than others. There's an Ironblaster gunner and two Mournfang cavalrymen hanging out here also. I ended up with an extra Bull due to not paying attention to the body types of the ranged guys, so I'll have to go get some spare bodies to finish that unit off.

Started in on a metal tyrant and the Mournfangs themselves are pretty much done. Need to fix up their tusks and eyes.

Here's Kohril. I've always liked the sculpt of Kohril. He looks cool. I got this metal one for five bucks. Thank goodness for people clearing out collections! I don't own any other White Lions for him to hang out with, but I always thought he'd make a cool RPG hero. Had planned to use him for Dungeon Saga before I saw how "eh" the crawl rules were.

He's obviously not done yet.

Now here's something COMPLETELY different (as if Elf heroes from me are a normal thing too)...

A Megaminis "Kung Fu" pack! This is only a portion of it too! These guys are so... I don't know. I don't want to say awful, but, well...

Their features are just so amateurish. Blob hands, notches to represent fingers, holes in the sides of heads for ears... they do have a certain charm though.

The kung fu guys do have charm to them. They almost look like they should be boardgame pieces. They'll certainly give your collection some funk that it didn't have before.

Progress has certainly been made since last week's batch of shots.

Here's those Kung Fu guys. Some finished, more started, a few *STILL* in the blister. It just keeps on giving! Some of these sculpts are pretty wonky, with hands unsure of whether they have thumbs or not, not following human musculature, or just being generally strange blobs of stuff.

Guy in the black gi is totally getting done up like Cobra kai. Gotta give him a yellow trim. Ninja dude is probably going to have the word "ninja" written on his back just to remind everyone how awesome he is.

Still trying to figure out what to do with the tonfa girl in the back. She's wearing a weird face mask. It's not exactly a hockey mask (my first thought), but it's not like an old fashioned Noh mask or anything else. Suggestions?

Finished up Kohril.

Not happy with his axe. Probably should have filed it a bit better. It was really rough.

Built the rest of my Malifaux posse. Actually started painting the Scales of Justice.

Finished up my Fyreslayer Runesmiter, and got started on my Rune Father. Also based them along with an old Chronopia dwarf and my Weremole.

Bases need some highlights still. Rune Father needs some shading on his arms especially. Weapon too.

And to continue my New Year's challenge, my month of April Ogres are making some good progress.

Mournfang cavalry are just about finished! Need to do some touch up and highlights still. I will take some individual pictures of them when their bases are finished up. Will definitely need a few more!

Leadbelchers and leftover Bulls are pretty much done other than touch ups and highlighting. Still need to get some replacement bodies to finish off the Belcher unit, or make whatever their hero is called.

Despite me being quite irritated with how much garbage is all over this thing, I'm just about done with my Iron Blaster carriage (and mount that pulls it).

There's another tusk that has yet to be glued on, but that is mostly due to me finishing up the cannonbarrel that sits in the middle between them. They're all done, just needing to be glued. I have to paint a lot of the bits and junk that goes on the back of the thing behind the gunner. At least that's all superfluous decorations and not a big deal.

Besides Ogres I'm supposed to be painting, as usual my attention has been wandering onto other things.

I picked up a box of minotaurs last week and got started on one to play with the colors.

He's obviously still in need of a lot of work, but I'm fairly satisfied with the results. The darker color helps immensely. Can't stand the flesh colored ones that GW put on the box. These must have been some early CAD renderings due to the weird blockiness on some of the muscles. With this set disappearing I hope we see some new ones in Sigmar's age some day. These aren't actually bad kits, and I hope to get some mileage out of the spare bits on some ogre bodies possibly.

Last, but not least, I started straying into some totally uncharted territory the other day. Super Dungeon Explore.

I should have taken more photos from various angles. I thought I did a decent job for my first SD Chibi figure. Not mind blowing Cool Mini submission quality, but decent. Daughter was happy with it. I may just suck it up and try painting a few more heroes.

...and that's not even showing off all the other stuff I started and didn't touch for a few days too....

Finally have the bulk of the Iron Blaster done for my Ogres now. Still have all kinds of crud that gets slapped all over the thing, but the main unit is actually complete.

What's ridiculous is how tiny that Cobra Kai karate dude looks in comparison to the blaster and its driver/ pilot.

Here's a bit closer view of him.

I tried to draw the logo and lettering on his gi. Doesn't show up too well on camera. He has a very derpy face too. Finished up the ninja next to him. I believe I still have a few figures from my KUNG FU MEGA MINI pack still.

I ended up giving the masked girl a metallic mask in the end.

I've got a bunch of weird stuff come in over the last few days. I'll be starting them once I finish up my current crop of Ogres!

What is it with you guys and speedily painting tons of awesome? The Ogres are looking great, as is Korhil, both flavours of dwarves, the Malifaux dude... The kung-fu guys don't do a lot for me, but I do like the freehand on that one guy's gi.

As for SoB, we've got... two or three missions left in Black Plague, and I made a pretty solid statement to my semi-regular group a couple of weeks ago about how I'd like to finish BP and then play more of a variety of things rather than just Zombicide (we still have Season 3 + expack and about a million DLC missions and a few more expansions and a ton more characters unopened). So hopefully SoB will make it into what I hope will become a rotation of different games.

Despite the business of this weekend (birthdays, japanese school beginning, various big events happening besides that) I managed to get some painting in!

Leaving the Ogres behind for the moment, and naturally ignoring models of significantly better quality, I busted open a RAFM USX Modern whatever starter set that had a SWAT team fighting Lovecraftian Deep Ones.

In the course of a day I had the SWAT primed, painted, washed, highlighted, and based. Take that Barzam and your neverending churn of completed models!

Hard to tell, but yeah, I highlighted every damned one of them. Did the eyes, eyebrows, straps, everything. Problem is they're all various shades of gray and black which means my camera tends to absorb them all together.

I'm happy with them. I figure I'll use them in a game of Fear & Faith, or Flying Lead one of these days. Need to get those Deep Ones started now.

Upon opening the box, I felt the guys were REALLY tall. Tall and gangly. Upon further inspection however, they aren't really that much taller than comparable figures. Here's a SWAT dude with an Elf, one of my KUNG FU guys who I imagine is supposed to be 28mm, and a Reaper Pathfinder Bones figure.

After painting Kohril last week, I think I might finally dip into my Island of Blood Elves and get started on them.

Speaking of get started on things that came in starter sets, I got the urge to paint up some of the Bloodbound guys from the Age of Sigmar box.

I most likely started them due to acquiring just about all of the individual Khorne heroes from Age of Sigmar- the Exalted Deathbringers, the Slaughterpriests... those guys. They're cool models. They needed some regular mooks to hang out with them though.

Obviously they have a lot of work ahead of them. An interesting note on my Bloodbound- I built half of them vanilla, as per the instructions, and then the other half got all cut up and swapped around. Different heads, weapons, and bits from other Chaos kits. The two guys on the left are definitely wielding weapons that were not originally included with them. Maybe from the Wrathmonger's box? Can't remember.

You'll notice there's a reddish blob in the background of those guys. It's my Witch Hunter I got started on!

He's not done yet, but he's coming along nicely. Always been a fan of Witch Hunters and Inquisitors. Bit of that Solomon Kane vibe going on with them.

Last but not least, here's some alien dudes I got in a swap from Barzam.

As is the case with him lately, they're all 15mm.

No thanks to Barzam's influence, I found myself placing an Alternative Armies order last night. Ended up getting a few of Loud Ninja's space raptors. Grabbed a Spec Ops squad, the Dino Mechsuits, a raptor tank, and some other Reptilian dragon spacemen that were in the catalog.

Might have to hit up Khurasan and grab some of his reptile guys as well!

I'm beginning to suspect that those Megaminis figures may actually be 25mm rather than 28. That ninja just seems really small.

Your SWAT guys came out looking really good. They were all single-piece casts, right? We really need to have a more modern game someday.

Your bugs turned out good as well. They seemed like they would paint up pretty quickly. We'll definitely need to play a 15mm game some time.

Those MegaMini guys ARE really small. I'd almost say they're 20mm or something.

Almost done with my Witch Hunter.

Did his fancy pants, his purity seal on his jacket, painted his zweihander and gear on his back too.

You can see his tools for the job. Still tempted to glue the other sword, gun, and scrolls on there as well.

What's crazy is just how large that Slaughterpriest is. He's HUGE. He's getting painted next while I try to finish up the first set of Bloodbound guys I stated.

Also started the first (and only one built so far) Varanguard. They're pretty large as well. Kind of surprised they are on the smaller ovals. I was expecting them to be on the bigger ovals like the Juggernauts are.

Pretty sick of painting gold trim on that guy though! Now it's time to go back and highlight all the black sections, give him a wash, and do all the horns and spikes that make him quite unpleasant to pick up.

Hopefully some of the 15mm stuff I ordered shows up soon....

What am I supposed to be painting this month? I've completely forgotten! Especially in light of the fact that we've got about a week to go!

Anyways... this weekend Barzam and I made our weekly pilgrimage to the game shop.

We ended up splitting the cost of a Imperial Knights: Renegade box set. We figured with our continued 15mm arms race that is occurring, we could have ourselves a slightly out of scale Epic game at that point.

I also ended up with a few poorly built and missing piece riddled Empire handgunners from another local store.

Why? I'm not sure. I think it's because I enjoyed painting that Witch Hunter, and wanted some dudes to hang with him. I grabbed that War priest during Miniature Market's last sale, along with a few other Avatars of War figures.Going to need to find a head for the guy in the front.

I also grabbed a guy to lead them all into battle-

Wait! Where'd that chicken general go? I guess the horse will lead them into battle then.

I started trying to do a bit of freehand on the horses' armor. Got the filigree on the white sections, now I need to go back and do the red cloth as well.

Since the coast is clear, and the threat of enemies is nonexistent, the foppish General makes his return.

"Ha ha!" he shouts from then saddle in his fantabulously bedazzled armor. "The Old World no longer exists, so I have nothing to fear!" he challenges out into the void.

So then this dude shows up.

Yeah, it's out of focus, but that's the end of our Empire buddy.

I really like that Empire kit. Will probably grab a spare foot body to go with the one I'm currently stuck deciding how I want to build it. I'm also wondering if the mounted general can sit on any old GW Empire horse- anyone know?

Varanguard came out nice. Took a while. I've got one of his BFF's horsey almost finished as well.

Will probably look better when it's in focus and put together. Will try to wrap him up this week, start/ finish the 3rd member of the unit by the end of the month (hopefully), and then it'll be on to new Orruks and Wrath of Kings!

Through the power of Slaughter, the Slaughterpriest (who will remain just outside of the camera's focus today) was able to resurrect the second Varanguard rider.

He's just about done. I forgot to put some gold trim in a few spots, including his other big huge pauldron, and I still need to paint his weapon.

Here he is with his empire buddy, who's had a tad bit more work done on him.

You can also get a good sense of size on these guys. They're huge compared to the average cavalrymen.

I'm curious if their bases are the same as all the regular "basic" cavalry figures. I know the juggernauts are actually on larger ones. I noticed the new Orruk pig things are on similarly sized bases as the Varanguard, and priced the same as well. If they're about the same size I'll probably get some.

Debating if I should candy stripe that Empire General's lance. In fact, I really don't know what I want to do with him next. Should I give him a cape? Should I attempt to write something on that scroll that clockwork skull baby is carrying? Should I give him a regular shield or the blinged out one with the raven perching on it? Can't decide!

I think he should be as blinged out and fabulous as you can make him. I hadn't noticed the skull-baby before. That thing is straight out of 40k.

So he needs a fancy cape doesn't he? Maybe with the twin- tailed comet on it? Filigree in the corners?

Candy striping that lance is going to be a pain in the ass.

That skull baby isn't 40k- it's got cogs and gears! It's a cool little bit, and yeah, it could totally find a home in 40k (and I'm sure it has).

Sadly I find myself wanting to paint Bretonnians now. Or at least some more Empire personalities.

I notice I haven't updated in a while. Oops.

Here is the final Varanguard model finished.

I liked how his blade turned out. I had been looking at old Jack Kirby 60s comics, and decided I'd put a bunch of Kirby Spots all along the blade. Not that you can see them here.

Here he is with his buddies, their unit complete! That armor was a pain to have to do all that gold on!

I finished up these three random Khorne guys while I was at it.

Can't remember what the first guy is- Wrathmonger? Skullreaper? Wrathskuller? I wish I had put him on a round base. Too late for that I guess. Middle dude is a Bloodbound type from the Sigmar starter, but I think he's had his arm and head replaced with other parts. Pretty sure that mace thing once belonged to the guy next to him.

Slaughterpriest on the end there is just a cool model. I really like that guy. Favorite of all the individual Khorne hero releases. Will probably grab the Deathbringer with the spear next, as he seems pretty comparable.

I also had made an order to Alternative Armies during Salute time, since it was free shipping to the US, and grabbed some random 15mm stuff.

Here are some reptilian space dudes that my primer RUINED. Just spewed gobs of slop all over them. Cleaned them off as best I could, but did not want to go and strip them, reprime them and all that, so I just sucked it up and started painting (and finishing) them. From a distance, they don't look bad. It's up close it's real noticeable.

Those are the 4 basic poses (and yeah, that one is huge for a 15mm guy). Here's the whole set, with a Mantic skeleton for size purposes. Also a MicroPanzer bug man I got done.

In addition to those guys, I picked up a set of 15mm Space Raptors. Ask Barzam their official name, as I don't know it.

That's a basic guy and one of their mech suits. The mech came with all sorts of weapon options, but I went with the stock picture ones. The primer absolutely ruined his other side, so I'm not going to bother photographing it. I may get some more of the suits to put other weapon options on. I also grabbed one of their grav tanks, but I need a flight stand for it. We'll show that off later.

For being ruined by your primer, your 15mm figures look really good. So, now that you've done a few, what do you think of the sxale? Would you buy more? We're going to have to try playing something with all of these tiny figures.

Nah, they're really rough looking. I didn't photograph the bad parts. I'll show you next time you're over.

I'm not sure how I feel about the scale. Considering the bulk of the 15mm stuff I own is larger than that, I don't know if it's even truly representative of the scale.

I think I prefer 28/32 whatever we want to call the current crop of stuff. I have a lot more available in that scale already, and by the time I get more of my Warpath and Deadzone stuff delivered, I'll have even more toys we can play with at that scale.

I wouldn't mind giving a simple ruleset a spin at 15mm though.

Within an evening, the Chuhuac were ready for deployment.

Hard to get a good picture of them. They're so tiny! The casting wasn't the greatest on them, and it was difficult to discern what was an actual part of them, what was miscast, and what was flash.

So we just went with it.

I noticed a few of them actually have different weapons upon closer inspection. One has a large shoulder mounted weapon (and seems to either be sitting on a rock or has a solid chunk of metal fused between his legs), some have assault rifles, and one has a squat barreled plasma weapon I'm assuming.

Here they are attacking an unsuspecting Skitarii.

In the end I'm pretty happy with them. I've almost finished my orange bug guys from MicroPanzer as well. One thing I'll say about the 15mm stuff is that I feel like I can get away with a lot less detail work than if I was doing something similar in 28-32mm stuff. Plus they're a lot easier to paint in large swaths of solid color.

Next up is going to be the Mission San Francisco Solano, as its due next week! After that- hopefully I can suck it up and get started on Archaon!

Started up on my Orruk Mega Boss.

Need to put all his trophies on his armor still, and keep on dirtying up his armor.

Also been starting up on a Lord Celestant I had.

The Mega Boss is big, but I still don't know about 60mm big. He takes up a lot of space, but as you can see, he's not all that much taller than a Stormcast.

Certainly wider though.

Points for both of them having equipped their tactical rocks. I've got an Exalted Deathbringer that I forgot to photograph who is also equipped with not only a tactical rock, but skulls and tentacles to go with it. Maybe tomorrow we'll photograph him.

Got my Mega Boss all finished up. Not that it looks much different than yesterday in the picture, but it is, I promise! Plus he's on a base now.

Not sure if it's just the lighting but you can't really make out the details of how the Bloodletter's head is hooked onto the armor. I might need to lighten up the ropes he's got there. I really like the figure. He is a big guy. I still think a 50mm base would have been a better fit, but he does spread out pretty well on that 60mm one.

The Lord Celestant he was hanging out with yesterday is coming along nicely as well.

I need to bring out the lightning bolt on his forehead more prominently. Also need to highlight his leg armor better. Can't really notice it in the photo.

Snapped a photo of that Exalted Deathbringer as well.

Despite how it looks, his topknot is a completely different color than his skin. His skin has a bluish tint to it, whereas the topknot itself is a more leather like color. Maybe I should lighten it up a bit as well.

Also managed to finish a few Bloodbound from the Age of Sigmar starter box. I've got quite a few more to go though!

Tomorrow is the Brookhurst bring n' buy, and hopefully I'll be coming home with some interesting goodies! My hope would be to clear enough clutter out to go home with a Star Drake, but I don't know if there will actually be enough of a demand for what I've got to offer. We shall certainly see...

You know what I haven't painted in a while?

Tyranids.

You know what kind of Tyranids I haven't painted in a while?

Big Tyranids.

Never tried a Hive Fleet Behemoth color scheme. Figure we'll go with that. I saw a really cool one on Dakka in fact, that I will shamelessly use as inspiration.
I do so love those big fleshy brains on the exterior of his shell. I wish the scything claws were a bit different than a Carnifex's. I may have to blow the remainder of my store credit on a Tyranids start collecting box at this rate.

The question is can I finish him before the Silver Tower arrives?

Started working on the carapace.

I know it's sloppy, we'll get it cleaned up eventually. Just time consuming...

Probably ought to paint those Void Hounds as well. One of the few Relic Knights pieces I still have unpainted. Surprised I've got most of them finished, to tell the truth...

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Ah, that's why I don't recognize it-- I've been avoiding WH/40K stuff for a couple of years now. It's kind of neat to see a 'Nid quadruped.

Now showing The Fellowship of the Ring, along with some Dreadball Captains!

Painting total as of 4/13/2024: 31 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain

Painting total for 2023: 79 plus 28 Battlemechs and a Dragon-Balrog

Well, technically, I don't think the thing actually is a quadruped. Most Tyranids seem to have those hoofed feet like this guy has on his rear legs. The legs under the big scything claws end in what look like could be graspable claws- in fact the other version of the this kit can be built using front claws to pin down a terminator and rear up on top of it.

I'd love to see more fully upright large- scale Tyranids. They always seem to get their body mass distributed weirdly the bigger they get. I've always wanted a big tanky shield wall/ siege breaker type Tyranid, kind of modeled after the Carnifex body type.

Regardless, I've just about got all the stupid carapace wrapped up on this guy. On to his claws and highlighting the skin areas!

Here he is from the other side- got his big claws all highlighted, and started cleaning up the more sloppier blue spots.

Also have been wasting time working on these MicroPanzer 15mm bug guys.

It seems I've got quite a bit of interesting stuff showing up in the mail today and tomorrow. Should be fun to post!

The feathering can be a real pain and time consuming. I don't envy you painting those Tyranids. He's looking good though. Does it actually have eyes? It looks like it doesn't. I've found that Tyranids tend to look much better when they don't have eyes. They're much more sinister that way.

Bug men are looking good, too. I love how quick that scale is to paint up. It's a nice feeling when you can bang out a number of figures in an hour or so.

The Maleceptor does NOT have any eyes. Not that I can tell at least. That feathering certainly is a pain in the ass. Does make it look cool though. I love how the blue really stands out against the red and black.

It is nice being to get the bulk of the painting done quickly at 15mm, but I can't help myself and go back and mess with details.
