The axe arm isnt pinned as the joint is pretty decent to just superglued it. The servo skull is pinned into the backpack. 0.8 drill bit for the hole and thin wire for the connection. The servo arms are(will be pinned) 0.8 drill bit again and my usual paperclip pins. Glue in a long length of clip and then clip to the right length. drilling the holes for the servo arms was a touch tricky and needed to be done slowly

Just wanted to give a mention to another competition running on Dakka this month and next, Gitsplitta's 'Mantis Maker' competition. The premise is simple; build and paint a Mantis Warrior Space Marine that fits the listed theme, take the opportunity to push yourself and your skills on a cool project and maybe win cool stuff!

A White Scars successor chapter, played a large roll in the Badab Wars ( IA books 9&10), and several other smaller events. Also the topic of the largest p&m blog on the site.

Green and Yellow Raven Guard with a bit of South-East Asian/Oriental flavour and less of an affinity for jump packs. Joined the wrong side of the Badab War and were eventually brought to heel by the Carcharodons (who claimed a whole generation of MW neophytes as their prize at the war's conclusion) before being sent on a Penitent Crusade. Losses sustained during it may have sounded the chapter's death knell.

I present to you:
My Warboss in MegaArmour!
He´s the mouth and the teeth of Mork and Gork! He´s also the right fist in the face of every enemie and "friend" who doubts his words!
His MegaArmour is made out of the best selected metall and steal he could find.
He´s equiped with a DeadShinyShoota, a Gitfinda and always has his lovely Attacksquigg running around with him.
Hope you like him, I do
Can´t wait to see everyones finished miniatures in about a week. It´s gonna be awesome again!

Update.. Progress! Some highlighting done, helmet on. Now final details and basing. Should add I tend to regard marines like commandos; they get in, blast everything away, then they get out. Thus each battle in my mind is the marines arriving fresh, loaded with firepower and fully briefed. For that reason I tend not to paint on battle damage, simply a preference thing.
Will however paint some dust around the base of his boots

Nope, that is the regular Space Hulk dead terminator on throne
The terrain is Hirst Arts molds in plaster, and the base for the throne is a plastic cast of the same molds.
I need to do like 10 more casts today if I want any chance of finishing that room - then I can prime it tonight and HOPEFULLY finish on time

All the other orks were leaving the planet on the great Waaagh in less than an hour, and here he was without even a choppa to his name. If only he hadn't drank so much fungus ale the night before, those thievin' grotz woulda never even got near him; at least he woke up and chased 'em off before they stole his pants and boots, too. Sulking his way through the ancient ruins on the edge of town, the stone floor suddenly gave way underneath him in a cascade of rock and earth.
Once he stopped moving, the young ork dug his way out of the pile of rubble that had engulfed him on his way down to find himself in a catacomb filled with dust and spiderwebs. A great stone tomb was in the middle of the cavern with one of them beakie boys carved on top. Perhaps there was something to loot inside he thought to himself. The slab that served as the tomb's cover took no small feat to budge, but once the ork got it moving, it slid all the way over the other side and slammed into the ground with a great cloud of dust. Inside was the skeleton of a space marine whose war torn armor bore the insignia of the Iron Fists, and laying across his body was some kind of great big shoota...

Finished: The Emperor's Wrath, Quad-Heavy Bolter Rapier preserved from the days of the Great Crusade. It's provenance prior to being awarded to the Segementum Pacificus Watch Station is unknown. For the last two centuries, an unprecedented period of service, Fists Examplar veteran Niels Goosen has tended to the relic machine lovingly, ensuring that it is as ready for war now as in the days when Primarchs lead their chapters to battle and operates it with consummate skill.

I used Reaper Master Series Dark Elf Skin Shadow to give the black of his pad a purple tint to differentiate it from the rest of the black. Forgot to do his left arm silver, but, given hw much silver tthere is on the rest of the model I don't actually think tthat's too much of a problem. Pretty fun model, if frustrating due to the amount of resin involved and how much that hates making edge highlighting easy; the only plastic parts are 3 of the purity seals, his belt accessories and left arm. I had initially resolved to use an earlier armour mark for Niels, but in the end I liked the idea of a veteran operator to go with the relic war machine.
Loricatus Aurora - I like the gold and the modelling for the blade a lot.
Keezus - Nice. That's all I have really.

Imo - just my two cents of course - it's not as much the lighting as the fuzzy pics. I would try to take a couple from further away, and crop them closer, so they're more in focus but the right size. dunno if this link will work but was a cool poster type thing going around FB a bit ago: photo guide don't know actual origin, sorry :( but it was pretty much a graphic of what everyone always tells me when I can't get good pics lol

Some great entries coming in now, Good luck for the voting everyone.
Time to add my finished entry to the list.
For reference what I was aiming for
And what I actually created. I couldn't quite get the backdrop to work due to the size of the bridge and the angle of the photos. also ran out of time to do more ropework on the bridge.
The goblins are just there for backdrop please don't consider them as part of the piece for voting since I painted them about 10 years ago (you can see how my painting has changed lol) without them it looked a bit weird with no one else on the bridge.
I think the hat turned out quite well so you defiantly know its Indy and my first attempt at OSL by making the Relic Sankara Stones Glow in the bag turned out OK (I welcome C&C on it since I think it could be better).

Well it's not the venue's fault. But there's also probably more non gamer footfall there than any other gaming hall in the country.
Kids, teenagers, etc. Just takes a minute and a curious child who doesn't know. I now always put my guys in my case during lunch break.
Usually gaming folk are very honest. I've left stuff before and it's always been handed in.

Great to hear this. When I first read you lost him I was thinking perhaps he had landed somewhere under the tables or something. I've been to a few of the events at WHW and I always leave my army out over lunch with no issues. The WHW staff are really good at watching over things. I was there with my brother and over lunch we'd been talking about the paint job on his nurgle orks. I went halfway through lunch to take a look at it and I noticed out of the corner of my eye one staff member watching me like a hawk. there's not many places I'd feel confident leaving my best painted models out but that is one of them. Perhaps I'm just safe as none of my models are worth pinching =)

off-topic maybe, but, nurgle orks you say? are there any pics floating around of them? I've always liked the sound of that idea, but never quite had the guts to attempt it myself, closest I got was a couple of squads of plague marine conversions that I threw a couple of ork arms into

Post by: Buttery Commissar
Because I play metal and infantry heavy guard, I unload from case trays and remove my guys back into them, so I can keep them in squads easily. At lunch I then just drop the trays in my case and lock it. I play around 30-90 original Tanith infantry, which whilst not the most expensive pieces, are simply not replaceable.
Yarrick doesn't fit in the case and was in a small cardboard box marked Petersen Games: Cthulhu Wars HP Lovecraft Player Marker.
Someone who was just there observing took a shine to the box after the tourney ended, thinking they were getting a rare Lovecraft miniature. One of their club mates saw my query and returned the box to me under a sort of amnesty.

Aye, off topic but never mind =). My brother collects CSM and I orks. He knows I've been angling to play a huge horde army for a while and in the last year I've painted up about 180 orks (including 90 boyz). We did a list for the I am Alpharius event at WHW in April (which was great) and it had 4 x 30 slugga boyz. He said he'd help me out getting the things ready, I just needed another 30 boyz to field it. He converted up 29 nurgle boyz, a nurgle nob (converted plaguebearer) a pain boy (banner bearer) and a nurgle deffkopta (using plaguedrone bits). I love them they really are very cool. Also, I got to play the army of my dreams. 120 boyz with FnP + support elements. Charging across the field. Most armies we faced had great fun as we used a dustpan and brush to remove our casualties. Anyway, that really has derailed the thread. The only images I have are posted below.
Our army (186 models)
You can see the back of the nurgle deffkopta from here and some nurgle boyz

hey they look great! works about as well as I thought it would ...some people would call that "un-orky", but I like 'em! ...love the army too, sounds like how I've run mine a few times, great fun, proper orky too - I'll have to remember that dustpan and brush trick for future games too, sounds handy!
